Tourist Faces Backlash for Throwing Rock at Hawaiian Seal, Offers Unconvincing Explanation

In a controversial incident that has sparked widespread attention, a tourist is claiming his intentions were misunderstood after being charged with throwing a large rock at an endangered Hawaiian monk seal. According to the tourist, his actions were meant to protect two vulnerable turtles.

Igor Lytvynchuk, 38, faces federal charges following the event, which was captured on video at a beach in Lahaina on May 5. The footage shows Lytvynchuk allegedly attempting to drive the seal away. His attorney, Myles Breiner, explained that Lytvynchuk’s goal was to safeguard the turtles, known in Hawaii as honu, rather than harm the seal.

“I want to make it absolutely clear to the public that he had no intention of injuring the monk seal,” Breiner stated during an interview with KHON-TV News. “His aim was to deter the seal from approaching the honu he observed at the scene.”

Breiner further elaborated on the situation, noting, “There were two substantial turtles present, and one had already been displaced from the rock by the seal. It’s important to remember that sea lions can exhibit aggressive behavior.”

“Apparently, there were two large turtles and one had already been knocked off the rock by the seal,” Breiner told the outlet. “Sea lions are very aggressive.”

The knucklehead from Seattle went viral after a bystander filmed him throwing a coconut-sized rock at the seal that Hawaiians lovingly call Lani, and made matters worse when asked why.

“I don’t care,” he told the woman who filmed the alleged attack. “Fine me. I’m rich.”

Enraged locals tracked him down and at least one man slugged him over the incident.

Lytvynchuk is now facing a federal charge of disturbing or harassing an endangered animal and could face up to one year in prison and a $50,000 fine.

“He recognizes he made a bad decision,” Breiner said.

However, the lawyer said the flippant statement attributed to his client is off the mark.

“The statement was, ‘I can afford it,’” he said.

Occasionally, Americans are reminded that their southern neighbor grapples with the influence of powerful drug cartels, which dominate much of the authority in what many describe as a struggling narco-state. Despite this grim reality, there have been some significant breakthroughs against these cartels. Recently, news emerged of such progress with the arrest of a high-profile figure: Mexican Senator Enrique Inzunza Cazárez from Sinaloa. As of last Friday, Cazárez is under U.S. detention and is facing a series of grave accusations.

Cazárez is far from a minor player in this scenario:

Interestingly, reports suggest that Cazárez voluntarily surrendered, a move that is quite atypical for individuals linked to cartels. This raises questions about whether he was compromised or perhaps seeking a deal, especially in light of the Trump administration’s intensified crackdown on cartel activities. Notably, Cazárez is not the first significant political figure from Sinaloa to be apprehended.

Adding another layer to the situation, there are indications of CIA operations within Mexico, specifically in the regions of Sinaloa and Chihuahua.

It’s worth noting that Cazárez crossed the border to surrender himself. Could this be indicative of a prearranged agreement?

He is accused of narcotics importation conspiracy; possession of machine guns and destructive devices; and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices.

Cazárez isn’t a penny-ante player, either:

Inzunza Cazárez, a member of the ruling Morena party, has held office since August 2024 and previously served as the Secretary General of Sinaloa under Governor Ruben Rocha Moya, who was also indicted and stepped down May 2.

According to the 34-page superseding indictment, the Sinaloa Senator conspired with the Sinaloa Cartel faction Los Chapitos – which is run by Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán’s sons, to import drugs to the United States.

What’s mildly surprising is the claim that Cazárez turned himself in, which is something these cartel types don’t often do. Could he have been compromised, or is he looking for some kind of a deal, what with the Trump administration tightening the screws on the cartels? Cazárez isn’t the first major political figure from Sinaloa to be nabbed.





Here is another interesting data point: There are reports of the CIA operating in Mexico, in Sinaloa and Chihuahua.

…the CIA has over the last several months been purposefully working more closely with select regional, state, and local Mexican officials than they ever have in the past, primarily due to the agency’s concerns that the cartels have effectively infiltrated some elements of the Mexican government.

Further underscoring distrust between US and Mexican authorities, the US Justice Department last month accused the sitting governor of Sinaloa, who is a member of Sheinbaum’s ruling Morena political party, and nine other current and former Mexican officials of actively conspiring with the Sinaloa Cartel.

Note that Cazárez crossed the border to turn himself in. Is this part of a deal?

Cazárez has reportedly been accused, along with a prominent Mexican businessman, Enrique Diaz Vega, who was also for a time working in the state of Sinaloa’s government, of running interference for the cartels, working with co-opted state officials to protect the cartels. If this is true, and if Cazárez is now singing like a bird to the American federal government, then any deal he makes will have to involve a solitary prison term, and if he ever gets out, he will have to be buried deeper into the Witness Protection Program than anyone has been to date. 





That’s the price one pays for being a toady of the cartels. Lie down with dogs, wake up with fleas.

The skies over Idaho turned chaotic during the Gunfighter Skies air show at Mountain Home Air Force Base on Sunday, when a dramatic midair collision between two Navy jets unfolded, leaving onlookers in shock.

This heart-stopping incident occurred just two miles northwest of the base, according to a report from the Mountain Home Air Force Base 366th Fighter Wing, as cited by the Idaho Statesman.

Footage shared on social media captured the harrowing moment when two Boeing EA-18G Growler aircraft collided mid-flight. The jets were seen tumbling through the sky before crashing to the ground.

In a desperate bid for survival, the pilots ejected and were safely parachuting to the ground as ominous plumes of black smoke billowed upwards, marking the scene of the crash.

The pilots were forced to escape the crash by parachute and were seen descending as black smoke plumes rose from the ground.

The base reportedly locked down shortly after 12.30pm, as Mountain Home Air Force base spokesperson Antwain Hanks confirmed the collision to the outlet.

‘We had four good parachutes,’ an air show announcer said, per the outlet.

Shortly after 1 pm, an announcer told attendees that all four Navy pilots were ‘found safe.’

‘That is always a positive in our world. If you are so inclined to take the time now to say a prayer,’ the announcement continued.

A witness who captured the harrowing incident on video spoke to NBC News about the chaos.

The witness added that the atmosphere is ‘very calm, controlled, and well managed,’ despite the collision.

The last Gunfighter Skies airshow was in 2018, when a hang glider pilot tragically died in a horrific accident. 

Another tragic incident occurred in 2003 when a Thunderbird plane crashed, though the pilot ejected safely.

Local police posted a statement on Facebook officially cancelling The Mountain Home Air Show.

‘Please do not travel to or attempt to access Mountain Home Air Force Base as a spectator, as the event will no longer be taking place.

‘We understand many were looking forward to this event and appreciate your understanding and cooperation,’ they added.

The Mountain Home Police had no further updates for the Daily Mail.

Homeless Man Arrested for Armed Trespassing After Sword Sightings in Local Neighborhood

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 23-year-old man named Williamson Dercelian Isaac was taken into custody on charges of trespassing and carrying a concealed weapon at the Haile Market Square Publix. Isaac was apprehended after allegedly refusing to vacate the premises and was later found with a sword concealed in his pants.

The incident unfolded around 5:30 p.m. on May 16, when an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived at the Publix located at 2755 SW 91st St. A store manager reported that Isaac had been using the cart-cleaning wipes to clean his feet within the store’s foyer. Upon being asked to leave the premises, Isaac reportedly declined to comply.

Deputies encountered Isaac in front of the Publix store. The manager confirmed that Isaac had been asked to leave and had refused to do so. Officers also recognized Isaac from previous sightings in the vicinity, where he had been observed carrying a large sword, prompting several calls to the Combined Communications Center.

When approached by deputies, Isaac allegedly refused to provide identification and made ambiguous comments suggesting he might be armed. A subsequent search revealed a long object at Isaac’s hip, which was determined to be a sword.

A search of Isaac’s belongings reportedly produced a SNAP card that showed his name, and his identity was confirmed using the photo in the driver’s license database.

After he was handcuffed, Isaac reportedly said, “I’m sorry for trespassing.”

Isaac has been charged with armed trespassing. He has no local criminal history, and he has been released from the Alachua County Jail.

At first glance, the bridge exercise might seem straightforward, but holding it with purpose unveils the true challenge. As you raise your hips and maintain the position, your body quickly communicates its feedback. This exercise demands the engagement of your glutes, the stabilization of your pelvis, and the coordination of your core. For those over 60, the link between the hips and midsection becomes crucial for effective movement and handling everyday tasks.

Many people underestimate the glutes’ contribution to core strength. They are fundamental in controlling the pelvis, providing lower back support, and establishing a solid base for your trunk. Strong hip muscles are vital for executing movements such as walking, climbing stairs, rising from a chair, and carrying objects with greater ease and stability. Additionally, robust glutes enhance resilience by allowing the body to better distribute force through the hips, thereby reducing undue stress on the lower back or knees.

From a coaching perspective, incorporating hip bridges into workout routines is a frequent practice, particularly as isometric holds during warm-ups. They are simple, accessible, and highly effective for activating the glutes before engaging in more demanding exercises. Moreover, hip bridges provide a quick assessment of one’s ability to maintain tension. When the hips remain aligned and the glutes are actively engaged, it often indicates that the body is prepared to move with improved control.

From a coaching standpoint, hip bridges show up in my programming all the time, especially as isometric holds during warm-ups. They’re simple, accessible, and incredibly useful for getting the glutes switched on before bigger movements. I also like them because they give you a quick read on how well someone can hold tension. If the hips stay level and the glutes stay active, you can usually tell the body is ready to move with more control.

Muscular endurance matters just as much as strength here. Daily movement asks your muscles to keep working for longer stretches, whether you’re walking through a store, standing in the kitchen, climbing stairs, or spending the day on your feet. Testing endurance every so often gives you a snapshot of how well your body maintains tension over time. The bridge hold make it easy to measure. Up next, we’ll break down why this exercise matters, how to perform it correctly, what your hold time says about your strength, and the best ways to build stronger hips and a more reliable core.

Why the Bridge Builds Core Strength After 60

The bridge trains the backside of your core, which doesn’t always get the attention it deserves. Your glutes, hamstrings, hips, and lower back all help keep your pelvis and spine positioned. When those muscles work together, your body creates a stronger foundation for nearly every movement you perform.

The glutes have a major job during the bridge. They extend the hips and help keep the pelvis level. That matters because pelvic control affects how your lower back feels, how your hips move, and how steady your body stays when you’re walking, lifting, or getting up and down from the floor. A strong bridge hold reinforces the connection without adding much joint stress.

Holding the bridge also builds endurance in the muscles that support your posture and daily movement. Your hips have to stay lifted, your ribs have to stay controlled, and your core has to support the position while you breathe. As the seconds build, you’re training your body to maintain tension instead of relying on a quick burst of strength. That’s why this test can tell you so much about how your core and hips are performing after 60.

How to Perform a Proper Bridge Hold

A strong bridge starts with position. You want the movement to come from your hips, with your glutes doing the majority of the work. The goal is to hold a steady line from your shoulders through your knees while keeping your lower back calm and your hips level. Once the position is set, the test becomes all about maintaining clean tension.

How to Do It:

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor about hip-width apart.
  2. Place your arms at your sides with your palms facing down.
  3. Brace your core by tightening your midsection before lifting your hips.
  4. Press through your heels and lift your hips until your shoulders, hips, and knees form a straight line.
  5. Squeeze your glutes while keeping your ribs down and your pelvis level.
  6. Hold the position while breathing steadily and maintaining the same hip height.

A quick note on the movement standard. The hold counts when your hips stay lifted, your glutes stay engaged, and your body keeps a straight line from shoulders to knees. If your hips start to drop or you feel the work move mostly into your lower back, reset and shorten the hold so the movement stays clean.

Best Variations: Single-Leg Bridge, Marching Bridge, Elevated Feet Bridge, Banded Bridge Hold, Hip Thrust Hold.

  • 30 to 60 seconds: This is a solid base. Your glutes and core can support the position with good control, and you’re developing the endurance needed for longer daily activity.
  • 60 to 90 seconds: You’re in strong territory. Your hips stay lifted, your posture holds, and your glutes can maintain tension as the hold becomes more demanding.
  • 90+ seconds: This is top-tier. Your glutes, hips, and core work together with impressive endurance. Holding this position with steady form shows excellent control and strength for life after 60.

How to Build Stronger Glutes and Core Endurance

Building a better bridge hold comes down to improving the quality of tension you can maintain. The goal is steady hips, active glutes, and a core that supports the position without extra movement through the lower back. This type of strength carries well into daily life because it teaches your body to stay organized for longer efforts. Stronger glutes also improve how the hips share work with the low back and knees, which supports more confident movement. A few consistent sessions each week can make a noticeable difference in how your bridge feels and how long you can hold it.

  • Practice bridge holds regularly: Start with two to three sets of clean holds a few times per week. Keep each set controlled instead of chasing a long hold right away.
  • Set your position before lifting: Brace your core, plant your feet, and create tension through your hips before your pelvis leaves the floor.
  • Drive through your heels: This helps you feel your glutes and hamstrings instead of shifting the work into your lower back.
  • Keep your ribs down: A strong rib position helps your pelvis stay organized and keeps the bridge from turning into a back extension.
  • Use shorter holds with better control: Sets of 20 to 40 seconds with strong form build the base for longer holds.
  • Add single-leg work over time: Single-leg bridges and marching bridges challenge each hip individually and help clean up side-to-side differences.
  • Train the surrounding muscles: Step-ups, split squats, hip thrusts, and dead bugs all help build stronger hips and improve core control.
  • Retest every few weeks: A simple retest helps you track progress and gives you a clear target without overcomplicating your training.

The bridge hold offers more than just a glute exercise. It shows how well your hips and core can stay connected under tension. This prestigious stretch between 59th and 86th streets has witnessed a wave of significant openings since the start of the year, including the relocation of Sotheby’s to the Breuer Building last autumn.

Among the notable newcomers are fashion and accessories brand Falconeri at 764 Madison, jewelry house Pasquale Bruni at 789 Madison, and the dining establishment Marcel located within Sotheby’s.

Canadian luxury outerwear brand Mackage moved to 791 Madison, a larger flagship than its previous address nearby.

Bauer also explained that top-tier jeweler Graff is combining two buildings into one at 710 Madison and will temporarily move to No. 773, previous home of Kwiat/Fred Leighton, which reopened in a larger space at No. 713.

Meanwhile, CH Carolina Herrera, which is a separate fashion brand/label from the Carolina Herrera boutique farther north, is moving soon from 802 Madison for a new and larger store under construction at 825 Madison.

Dunhill, which hasn’t been seen on Madison in decades, returns soon at 821 Madison. And Loewe plans a new flagship for its Casa brand at 694-696 Madison. The latter address was once the longtime home of celeb-magnet restaurant Nello.

“The stores are reinvesting in Madison Avenue,” Bauer said. “This is an international shopping street but the market is very local.”

Kelce also heaped praise on the well-known Indian restaurant Gymkhana, which the couple visited during their trip.

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Medical College of Georgia has teamed up with St. Joseph’s/Candler to tackle the pressing issue of physician shortages in Georgia. Their solution: a groundbreaking residency program in Savannah aimed at training and retaining doctors within the Coastal Empire.

This innovative residency program, the first of its kind in the area, offers medical school graduates a local opportunity to complete their residency training. By providing this option, officials hope to significantly boost the likelihood that these newly trained physicians will choose to stay in the region over the long haul.

Spanning three years, the program reflects a strategic approach based on research indicating that physicians often settle in the communities where they complete their residencies. Leaders are optimistic that this initiative will strengthen Georgia’s medical workforce.

The need for such a program is underscored by Georgia’s current standing as 41st in the nation for the availability of primary care physicians, according to program officials.

“There’s about a 70% chance that when a medical student completes both their education and residency in the same city, they will remain there,” explained Elizabeth Gray, dean of the Medical College of Georgia Armstrong Campus. “We are thrilled to train our students here to understand our specific health needs and to encourage them to continue their practice locally for the long term.”

Gray said the collaboration is expected to bring more doctors to the state while also improving patient outcomes.

“We know that having graduate medical education in a health system increases the quality of care,” Gray said. “Just having a resident or a medical student on your team makes you less likely to have medical errors when you enter the hospital.”

The program is currently accepting applications and will begin its interview process this fall.

Residents will learn where they are matched on St. Patrick’s Day, and St. Joseph’s/Candler expects to welcome its first class of 20 residents in summer 2027.

A Missouri man is facing serious charges after allegedly parking his deceased wife’s car at her former workplace, a school, on at least 15 occasions, while issuing threats and holding its staff accountable for her tragic suicide, according to prosecutors.

Alex Reichert, aged 36, is accused of making multiple threatening online posts targeting St. Charles High School, located in St. Charles, approximately 25 miles from St. Louis. His wife, Skye Reichert, was a teacher at the school.

Reichert’s threats were focused on a female employee at the school, whom court documents describe as “involved with Alex and his wife,” referring to her as his “paramour.” It is alleged that after the relationship ended, Reichert held her and St. Charles High School responsible for Skye’s suicide, which occurred in March.

Authorities report that Reichert engaged in stalking and threatening behavior towards the school, the targeted staff member, and students who were preparing to graduate earlier this month. As a result, he faces charges of making a terrorist threat and stalking.

In a bond request filed on May 14, prosecutors stated, “The suspect has lost his job, his wife, and his paramour. His behavior and social media posts suggest he has nothing left to lose and may direct his anger and frustration towards innocent civilians.”

Proseuctors accuse Reichert of engaging “in a pattern of harassment and stalking affecting not only [the staffer], but the entire community,” accoridng to the court filing. He allegedly “possesses guns and implied that he will use them” at the aforementioned graduation ceremony.

“The suspect presents a danger to [the staffer] as well as the attendees of the ceremony and community, prosecutors said. “The suspect has already been served with an order of protection and continues on his campaign of harassment and stalking. The victim has pursued all legal remedies for self-protection and yet, does not feel safe going to work because the suspect’s behavior escalates.”

Students and police officials told local NBC affiliate KSDK that Reichert was seen “circling the school” in his wife’s car before parking it “outside and in close proximity” to the St. Charles campus and local district offices.

“He even placed a bumper sticker on that vehicle … that read, ‘I’m unpredictable,’” St. Charles Police Lt. Daniel Gibbons told KSDK.

“It’s been very scary,” a high school senior said. “It makes students uncomfortable.”

Gibbons and prosecutors allege that Reichert made “a lot of different comments” online referencing countdowns. “All of those countdowns all ended on this Sunday, which is the graduation for St. Charles School District,” Gibbons said.

A criminal complaint describes how Reichert “communicated an implied threat to cause an incident or condition involving danger to life … by making social media posts with a countdown to an incident that will occur at an upcoming ceremony implying the use of guns and a fight.”

One of the social media posts Reichert allegedly made about his wife’s death said:

For the teachers she worked with that immediately erased her and all the work she did: you can continue to teach, but students will always be reminded of your role as people who treat others this way; as people that selfishly erase people and don’t show any support to people around them. They deserve better teachers who don’t continue to gossip and spread rumors, particularly when based on exaggerations and harmful lies, without actual evidence of wrong doing. But there’s plenty of examples that can be shared in time to help show the difference.

Court records show that Reichert and his wife, Skye, had previously filed a defamation lawsuit against an anonymous staffer in March before Skye’s death. The staffer allegedly sent emails to Reichert’s employer that claimed Reichert had posted photos on social media where he was providing alcohol to children and engaging in inappropriate behavior with them, including accusations of sexual abuse, according to KSDK.

It has not been confirmed whether the staffer who was sued is the same person that was being threatened by Reichert. Gibbons told KSDK that the person being threatened “was involved with Alex and his wife.”

Reichert was ordered held without bond and is due to appear in court next week.

Rugby icon Scott Hastings has passed away following a courageous four-year battle with cancer, poignantly on the birthday of his late wife, Jenny.

At 61, Hastings leaves behind a storied legacy, having been a key player in Scotland’s celebrated 1990 Grand Slam-winning team, where he played alongside his older brother, Gavin.

Tragedy struck the Hastings family when Jenny disappeared while swimming at Wardie Bay in Edinburgh in 2024. Her disappearance came after she battled mental health challenges for more than two decades.

In a heartfelt statement released by Scottish Rugby, Hastings’s children, Corey and Kerry-Anne, shared their sorrow: “Scott, the Scotland and British & Irish Lions centre, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on the morning of Sunday, May 17.”

They noted the significance of the date, coinciding with his late wife’s birthday, symbolizing in their words, “that he is safe and with his beloved Jenny.” They added that while Scott was undergoing treatment for cancer, unforeseen complications led to a rapid decline in his health.

‘Despite every effort by the incredible team at the Western General Hospital ICU, he passed away peacefully and pain free. At this time the family ask everyone to give them space to process and manage their energies and ask for their privacy to be respected.’

Jenny’s body was discovered on September 7, 2024 – the couple’s wedding anniversary. 

In an emotional statement, released a day after the mother-of-two vanished, her family said: ‘As many of you know Jenny struggled with her mental health for a number of years and ultimately she was unable to cope on this occasion.

‘She swam out into the Firth of Forth from Wardie Bay in Edinburgh and it appears that she wished to end her suffering in what was a regular and healing place for her.

‘She loved the water but unfortunately her mind was not in a place of safety. The Hastings family are absolutely heartbroken.’

Mrs Hastings had been classed as a ‘high risk missing person’ because of her known struggles with mental health. She had previously spoken about her long-standing battle with severe depression and had made previous attempts on her own life.

‘When she was well, she was radiant and beautiful and outgoing,’ Scott said of his wife. ‘But to see somebody suffer poor mental health was a challenge.’ 

He would take solace in visiting Wardie Bay after her death, with the couple spending 45 years together.

Hastings is the most-capped male centre for Scotland of all-time and won the Grand Slam with Scotland in 1990, anchoring a victory against England.

Former team-mate and Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend said: ‘In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Scott was an iconic figure for Scottish rugby.

He went on to commentate on rugby for a number of broadcasters, including BT Sport, Sky Sports, ITV and BBC.

Speaking last year, he told how he returned every week to the bay where his ‘beautiful, radiant’ wife Jenny, 60, took her life in September 2024.

Scott said: ‘I miss Jenny every day.

‘She had this amazing connection with people and probably concentrated on other people’s health rather than her own mental health.’

A statement from Scottish Rugby said: ‘Scott Hastings won 65 caps for Scotland over 11 years (a record at that time), represented the British & Irish Lions on 12 occasions on two tours and played 13 games for the Barbarians.

‘A proud Watsonian, he also wore the Edinburgh jersey with such distinction. He remains the most-capped Scotland male centre of all-time.

‘But those stellar stats tell far from the whole story.‘

Sir Ian McGeechan, former Scotland and Lions head coach said: ‘My association with Scott and his brother Gavin was always special for me because we came into the Scotland set-up, myself as coach, and Scott and Gavin as players, at the same time.

‘We came in together and we grew together.

‘I remember Scott on the Lions tours taking an absolute lead. He was so single-minded and determined about winning.

‘He was very much your right-hand man, given what he did on the field. I still remember the Grand Slam game against England in 1990.

‘There was his Lions team-mate from the previous year, Jerry Guscott, in the England team, but Scott gave nothing away to him whatsoever.

‘Whatever jersey Scott wore, he just made it better.’

Current Scotland head coach, Mr Townsend, added: ‘His defensive display in the 1990 Grand Slam victory over England was crucial to that day’s success and he epitomised what it meant to play for Scotland – combining passion, confidence and aggression, whenever he wore the navy blue jersey.’

Another of Scott’s former international team-mates, Kenny Logan, worked closely with him when the Doddie Foundation was established, after Doddie Weir, a fellow former Scotland and Lions player, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.

Mr Logan said: ‘Scott was one of those guys who you could rely on to always put his hand up. His energy was incredible.

‘I worked with him while he was chair of the Doddie Foundation and Scott’s role wasn’t just about generating PR.

‘He was very knowledgeable and would never hesitate to do his bit.’

Scott was inducted to the Scottish Rugby Hall of Fame last October.

The flag will fly at half-mast at Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium in tribute.
