Commission Uncovers Systematic Use of Sexual Violence by Hamas on October 7

WARNING: This article contains graphic and disturbing details about the October 7 massacre in Israel.

The Civil Commission on Oct. 7 Crimes Against Women and Children has released a report indicating that Hamas and its Palestinian affiliates deliberately and systematically employed sexual and gender-based violence during the 2023 massacres in southern Israel. This violence was part of a broader strategy, according to the findings published on Tuesday.

The Israeli nonprofit’s investigation uncovered numerous instances of abuse across various locations during the October 7 terrorist attack. These sites included the Nova Music Festival, kibbutzim near the Gaza border, Israel Defense Forces bases, as well as among hostages held captive. Additionally, recovered bodies showed evidence consistent with sexual violence.

The report highlights that investigators discovered at least 13 different forms of abuse, ranging from rape and sexual torture to shootings aimed at victims’ genital areas and post-mortem abuse.

In related footage released by the Israel Defense Forces, a Hamas militant is seen moving through a residential neighborhood in southern Israel. This undated bodycam video, which was part of a 40-minute compilation shown to international journalists on October 16, 2023, captures the events of the October 7 attack.

Dr. Cochav Elkayam-Levy, founder and chair of the Civil Commission and a principal co-author of the report, told Fox News Digital that the greatest challenge in compiling the findings was the team’s repeated exposure to graphic material and the trauma associated with reviewing it on a regular basis.

“We had to not only collect materials, but also review and analyze it alongside forensic experts while witnessing human suffering at its worst,” Elkayam-Levy said. “What motivated us was the denial, the hesitation and the questioning. We wanted to ensure that the world knows what happened to the victims.

“For us, it is a final act of justice for the victims,” she added.

The report also detailed cases in which sexual violence was inflicted in front of or involving family members, including one incident in which relatives were allegedly forced to carry out acts on each other.

It further accused Hamas and allied perpetrators of using videos, digital platforms and social media as tools to magnify psychological harm, spread fear and publicize the attacks, including by distributing sexualized material.

Elkayam-Levy said she hopes the findings will not remain confined to academics, human rights organizations or activists, but will also be studied by counterterrorism and national security experts to better understand and confront such atrocities.

“We cannot prevent what we do not fully understand,” Elkayam-Levy said. “No single prosecution could ever capture the full magnitude of these crimes in the way this report does. It is therefore critical that policymakers, decision-makers, members of Congress and senators find ways to formally recognize these findings and hold hearings so we can begin addressing this issue. We want the findings of this report to receive formal institutional recognition.”

The report, Elkayam-Levy noted, underscores that victims of the Oct. 7 atrocities came from 52 countries, highlighting the global scope and impact of the attack.

Witness testimony cited in the report included an account of a woman being sexually assaulted before being beheaded. Another witness described seeing a woman dragged from a vehicle, pinned against a wall, repeatedly raped and then stabbed, with the assault allegedly continuing after her death.

In another case, a witness described discovering the body of a man whose genitals had been severed, lying beside the body of a woman holding them, in what the report described as an apparent effort to degrade and humiliate the victims.

Investigators said some female victims were found naked or partially unclothed, with evidence of severe mutilation and objects including grenades, nails and household tools inserted into their bodies. The report also cited gunshot wounds, cuts and burn injuries concentrated on intimate areas.

The report said some female bodies brought to morgues showed broken pelvises or legs, bloodied underwear and additional trauma to the abdomen or groin.

Former hostages, both women and men, have also testified to rape, sexual torture and other forms of abuse during abduction or captivity, according to the report. It said some female captives reported sexual assaults while receiving treatment in Gaza hospitals for injuries sustained during the attacks.

Male hostages likewise described sexual abuse while in captivity, including assaults in showers and incidents carried out under armed threat while victims were naked, the report said. One former hostage recounted being sexually assaulted when a captor forcibly rubbed his genitals against the victim’s anus.

Last month, former hostage Rom Braslavski recounted the abuse he said he endured during captivity in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital.

“They would hit me with whatever they had on hand. I underwent severe torture, bondage and sexual abuse. Everything they could do to me, they did. My body is still covered in scars. After four months of torture, I was clinically dead, rolling my eyes and passing out. They decided to stop the violence and brought doctors to treat me with injections and gave me food again,” he said.

The report said sexual and gender-based violence was “widespread and systematic” and constituted an “integral component” of both the Oct. 7 attacks and the subsequent treatment of captives, while calling the prosecution of such crimes an “urgent” priority to be pursued through international accountability mechanisms.

Among its recommendations, the commission called for targeted sanctions against individuals and entities accused of carrying out or materially supporting the Oct. 7 attack and its aftermath. It also urged action against what it described as denial, minimization or politicization of the sexual crimes committed during the massacre and in captivity.

“The Commission further recommends that Israel adopt a comprehensive gender strategy within its prosecutorial framework and establish a specialized chamber or panel of judges dedicated to the prosecution of sexual and gender-based crimes committed on October 7th and during captivity,” the report said.

Elkayam-Levy said the report has received widespread international attention, including front-page coverage in U.S. and global media outlets. “We feel the discussion has shifted from questioning whether these crimes occurred to examining their consequences,” she said. “There is now a substantial legal evidentiary foundation preserved in a secure archive that cannot be denied.”

DCLM Daily Manna 15 May 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Honour His Anointed

TOPIC: Honour His Anointed (DCLM Daily Manna 15 May 2026)

KEY VERSE: Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me – Galatians 4:15

TEXT: Galatians 4:14-18 (KJV)

14 And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

15 Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.

16 Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

17 They zealously affect you, but not well; yea, they would exclude you, that ye might affect them.

18 But it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., Associate Justice of the US Supreme Court from 1902 to 1932, was once asked why he was not troubled, attending a small church where the preacher was a most ordinary man with no originality as a thinker. Dr. Holmes gave this fine reply: “I go because I have a little plant called Reverence, and I must need water it once a week or it would die.”

Apostle Paul corrected the Galatian church for the dissipation of the once flourishing virtue amongst them. They once loved and cherished him, but they no longer manifested the same affection towards him for whatever reason(s). The infiltration of false teachers affected them. They no longer loved and appreciated their mentor and spiritual father. Evil communication had corrupted their good manners. Yet they failed to realise that when we honour God’s servants, we honour God. Conversely, dishonouring God’s anointed implies dishonour for God.

Ministers of God are His representatives among men, chosen and anointed as shepherds accountable to Him. God anoints them for His unique service, and we are not allowed to dishonour them. David was smitten in the heart when he cut off the fringe of King Saul’s skirt. He regretted what he did because Saul was God’s anointed. Persecutions and difficulties are no excuses for disobedience. You can always commit your ways to God, the righteous Judge, for mediation and intervention. When believers criticise, speak carelessly, murmur against, or falsely accuse their leaders, they dishonour God’s anointed, and He would not be pleased with them. It is even more delicate when we neglect to obey the word of God they teach us.

On the other hand, believers must be weary of false teachers and prophets who creep into fellowship to corrupt gatherings of saints with pernicious words. Their influence can be very damaging. They beguile unstable souls and make merchandise of the innocent and the gullible. We are not to obey, or follow preachers, who show wrong examples, and aim to turn us away from God.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
It is always profitable to give honour to whom honour is due.

Rhapsody Of Realities 15 May 2026: It’s The Same Anointing

Rhapsody Of Realities 15 May 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): It’s The Same Anointing

TOPIC: It’s The Same Anointing (Rhapsody of Realities 15 May 2026)

Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts (2 Corinthians 1:21-22).

Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:

There are differences among us, but they don’t cancel the oneness of the Spirit. The differences are in faith, calling, gifts, grace, and office. Our callings are different. Our gifts differ. God gives different graces, and there’re different offices, whether evangelist, prophet, or otherwise. Yet, it’s the same anointing of the Holy Spirit at work.

When you received the Holy Spirit, you were anointed with the anointing of the Christ. Therefore, you’ll never need a greater anointing than the one you received when you received the Holy Spirit. 2 Corinthians 1:21 says, “Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God.”

Some think you can be anointed with the Holy Spirit and then later be anointed with power, but it’s not true. It is one and the same thing. The language of Paul, like the language of the prophet Isaiah, often uses two expressions for the same reality. So, when the Bible says, for example in Acts 10:38, that God anointed the Lord Jesus with the Holy Ghost and with power, it’s not dealing with two separate things.

When you’re anointed with the Holy Ghost, you’re anointed with power. Acts 1:8, the words of the Master: “…ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you….” He had said in Luke 24:49, referring to the same Holy Ghost experience they were going to have, “…tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.” This means the coming of the Holy Ghost is the enduement with power.

When you received the Holy Spirit, you were separated unto Him and consecrated with the anointing of the Christ. He empowered you to do the work of God and to live for Him. He opened your understanding to Kingdom realities and enabled you to walk in the wisdom of God. Oh, the blessedness of being filled with the Holy Ghost!

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for the anointing of the Holy Spirit that I have received. I walk in the consciousness of the grace and power of the Spirit at work in and through me. I’m empowered to live for you and fulfil your purpose. I function in the power and wisdom of the Spirit for the work of the Kingdom. Through me, your graces and blessings are ministered to others, and your glory is manifested in every place, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

1 John 2:20 & 27 (KJV) But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. 27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

Romans 8:11 (NIV) And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

Oregon Man Heroically Drives Family to Safety After Being Shot at In-N-Out Drive-Thru

0

In a recent development, Oregon police have apprehended two individuals in connection with a troubling incident where a father was shot in the head while leaving an In-N-Out drive-thru with his family. Despite his injuries, the father remarkably managed to drive himself to the hospital for treatment.

The suspects, identified as Ethan Adrian Armenta-Lagunas, 20, and 18-year-old Gabriel “Alex” Javier, both residents of Salem, were detained on Wednesday. They are facing serious charges, including first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, criminal mischief, and reckless endangerment, all stemming from the February 9 shooting of Marcio Garcia.

During the investigation, the Keizer Police Department reported the discovery of multiple firearms at Armenta-Lagunas’s residence. Following this, Javier was apprehended later that same day. Authorities are actively pursuing a third suspect, 22-year-old Anthony Taylor-Manriquez, who remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

As the search for Taylor-Manriquez continues, the community remains on alert, urged to report any sightings or information to law enforcement. The incident underscores the ongoing challenges of gun violence and the efforts of police to bring those responsible to justice.

Authorities are still searching for a third suspect, 22-year-old Anthony Taylor-Manriquez, who is considered armed and dangerous.

Garcia, 28, was in a car with his wife and two children, ages 2 and 7, when shots rang out near the burger chain.

The gunfire shattered the car windows and struck Garcia in the head; his wife and children were uninjured, police said.

“In the middle of chaos and fear, while he was injured and in pain, he somehow found the strength to drive us out of the scene to safety,” his wife wrote in an online fundraiser.

“He protected our family before thinking of himself. That is the kind of man and father he is.”

Images posted online showed the bullet that was removed from Garcia’s head during surgery in February, according to his wife.

She also noted that Garcia did not suffer major brain damage and is currently recovering at home.

“The doctors told us what we already believe — this is nothing short of a miracle,” she said. “Now he faces a long road of rest, healing, and recovery.”

Revitalize Hip Strength After 60 with These 5 Effective Chair Exercises – Faster Results Than Lunges!

Are you finding that climbing stairs or getting up from a chair is becoming more challenging after hitting 60? Your hip strength might be the culprit, and addressing this issue can make daily activities much easier.

The strength of your hips plays a critical role in your mobility, influencing nearly every lower-body movement. You probably notice this when your steps feel stiff in the morning, or when you need an extra push to stand up. As hip strength diminishes, your entire body feels the impact.

Traditional exercises like lunges are excellent for building hip strength, but they require a level of balance, knee control, stride length, and mobility that might be daunting for some. Instead, chair exercises offer a more accessible starting point, allowing you to concentrate on the essentials: lifting the knee, pressing through the feet, and engaging the glutes. These exercises strengthen the muscles around the hips without the added worry of losing balance or rushing the movements.

In my experience with clients, using chair-based drills has been effective in rebuilding confidence before progressing to more intensive lower-body exercises. While the chair provides support, the muscles are still doing the work. This routine includes seated marches to activate the hip flexors, reverse planks to engage the glutes, banded abductions for the outer hips, adduction holds for the inner thighs, and sit-to-stands to integrate all these movements into a practical exercise used in everyday life.

I’ve used chair-based drills with clients who needed to rebuild confidence before moving into bigger lower-body exercises. The chair adds support, but the muscles still have to work. In this routine, seated marches train the hip flexors, reverse planks wake up the glutes, banded abductions target the outer hips, adduction holds strengthen the inner thighs, and sit-to-stands bring everything together in a movement you use every day.

Seated Marching

Seated marching trains your hip flexors and core while giving your body a supported way to practice lifting one leg at a time. Strong hip flexors help you walk with a cleaner stride, step over objects, and climb stairs without dragging your feet. The chair keeps your balance out of the equation, so your hips can focus on doing the work. Move slowly, stay tall, and make each knee lift feel controlled instead of rushed.

Muscles Trained: Hip flexors, quadriceps, core

How to Do It:

  1. Sit tall near the front edge of a sturdy chair.
  2. Plant your feet flat on the floor.
  3. Brace your core and keep your chest lifted.
  4. Lift one knee toward your chest.
  5. Lower your foot back to the floor with control.
  6. Alternate legs in a steady rhythm.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps per leg. Rest for 30 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Paused seated marches, banded seated marches, slower tempo marches

Form Tip: Keep your torso tall and avoid leaning back as your knee lifts.

Reverse Plank

A chair reverse plank trains your glutes, hamstrings, upper back, and core while teaching your hips to stay extended. That matters because sitting for long stretches can make the front of the hips feel tight and leave the glutes undertrained. Pressing your hips up helps restore strength through the backside of your body, which supports walking, standing tall, and getting up from seated positions. Hold the top position with purpose and let your glutes do the work.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, hamstrings, core, upper back

How to Do It:

  1. Sit near the front edge of a sturdy chair.
  2. Place your hands on the sides of the seat.
  3. Walk your feet forward until your legs extend comfortably.
  4. Press through your heels and lift your hips off the chair.
  5. Squeeze your glutes and hold your body in a straight line.
  6. Lower your hips back to the chair with control.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 15 to 25 second holds. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Bent-knee reverse plank, longer holds, alternating heel lift hold

Form Tip: Squeeze your glutes and keep your chest open.

Banded Leg Abduction

Banded leg abductions train the outer hips and glutes, which help keep your knees and hips steady when you stand, walk, or step sideways. Weak outer hips can cause the knees to drift inward, leaving your lower body feeling less stable. The band provides your hips with resistance in a direction that lunges don’t always target well. Keep constant tension on the band and focus on smooth, controlled reps.

Muscles Trained: Outer hips, glutes, hip stabilizers

How to Do It:

  1. Sit tall near the front edge of a sturdy chair.
  2. Place a mini band around your thighs just above your knees.
  3. Plant your feet flat on the floor.
  4. Brace your core and keep your chest lifted.
  5. Press your knees outward against the band.
  6. Return your knees inward with control.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 12 to 15 reps. Rest for 30 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Paused abductions, single-leg abductions, slower tempo abductions

Form Tip: Keep your feet planted and move from your hips.

Seated Adduction Hold

Seated adduction holds train the inner thighs, an area that plays a bigger role in hip strength than most people realize. The adductors help control your legs when you walk, shift direction, or bring your feet back under you after a step. Squeezing a pillow, ball, or yoga block between your knees builds strength in the inner hips without requiring you to stand or balance. Hold the squeeze firmly and breathe through the effort.

Muscles Trained: Inner thighs, hip adductors, core

How to Do It:

  1. Sit tall with your feet flat on the floor.
  2. Place a pillow, small ball, or yoga block between your knees.
  3. Brace your core and keep your posture upright.
  4. Squeeze your knees together against the object.
  5. Hold the squeeze for the target time.
  6. Release with control before the next rep.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 15 to 25 second holds. Rest for 30 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Longer holds, pulsing squeezes, firmer object holds

Form Tip: Keep your feet flat and squeeze from your inner thighs.

Sit-to-Stand

Sit-to-stands train your glutes, quads, hamstrings, and core while practicing one of the most important movements after 60. Every rep trains your hips and legs to generate force from a seated position, which carries over to getting off the couch, standing from the car, or rising from a dining chair. Compared with lunges, sit-to-stands offer a more stable entry point while still building serious lower-body strength. Control the lowering phase and stand up without rocking for momentum.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings, core

How to Do It:

  1. Sit near the front edge of a sturdy chair.
  2. Place your feet flat on the floor about hip-width apart.
  3. Brace your core and lean your torso slightly forward.
  4. Press through your feet to stand tall.
  5. Squeeze your glutes at the top.
  6. Lower back to the chair with control.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 12 reps. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: No-hands sit-to-stands, slower tempo sit-to-stands, paused sit-to-stands

Form Tip: Press through your whole foot and avoid dropping into the chair.

How to Rebuild Hip Strength From a Chair

Beautiful woman stretching on chair at home
Shutterstock

Chair training works best when the movements feel focused instead of easy. The support gives you confidence, but your hips still need to create tension and control each rep. Treat these exercises like strength work: move slowly, own the position, and make the target muscles do their job. A few consistent sessions each week can help your hips feel stronger, steadier, and more reliable during daily movement.

  • Train the front, back, inside, and outside of your hips: Hip strength comes from multiple muscles. Marches, reverse planks, abductions, adduction holds, and sit-to-stands cover the main areas your hips need for better movement.
  • Use the chair to improve control: Support should help you move better, not make the work disappear. Stay tall, keep your feet planted, and avoid leaning or pulling through your hands unless balance requires it.
  • Add pauses when you can: Holds at the top of a reverse plank, during an adduction squeeze, or before sitting down make the muscles work longer. Extra time under tension helps build strength without needing heavy weights.
  • Progress gradually: Add a few reps, use a stronger band, hold longer, or slow the lowering phase. Small changes keep your hips improving without making the routine feel overwhelming.
  • Practice often enough to feel the carryover: Aim for three to five short sessions per week. Your hips respond well to steady practice, especially when each rep feels controlled and intentional.

Oscar Winner’s Honorary Degree Withdrawn Amid Ancestry Controversy

0

An acclaimed musician who once clinched an Oscar has seen her honorary degree revoked amid accusations of fabricating her Indigenous heritage.

Buffy Sainte-Marie, aged 85, received an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Toronto in 2019.

During the award ceremony, university representatives praised her contributions to music and the arts, alongside her fervent advocacy for human rights and dignity.

However, on Wednesday, the university’s governing council decided to withdraw Sainte-Marie’s honorary degree following a petition, as reported by CBC.

This development is the most recent in a series of accolades the singer, known for co-writing the Oscar-winning song “Up Where We Belong,” has lost since a 2023 probe suggested her career might be founded on falsehoods.

As Sainte-Marie rose to fame with her anti-war anthem ‘Universal Soldier’ and ‘Now That the Buffalo’s Gone’ in the 1970s, she told heartfelt stories about having Mi’kmaq heritage through her adoptive mother.

Yet the CBC revealed that the singer’s birth certificate showed she was actually born Beverly Jean Santamaria to white parents in Massachusetts – not the Cree woman from Saskatchewan’s Piapot First Nation she has claimed to be since the 1960s.

Sainte-Marie has since denied those allegations, as she insisted the investigation into her ancestry included ‘fabricated’ evidence.

A 2023 investigation revealed the singer may have faked her Indigenous ancestry

‘My growing up mom, who was proud to be part Mi’kmaq, told me many things, including that I was adopted and that I was native,’ Sainte-Marie said.

‘And later in life, as an adult, she also told me some things that I’ve never shared out of respect for her. That I hate sharing now, including that I may have been born on the wrong side of the blanket.’

The singer went on to claim the CBC relied on fabricated accounts from her brother Alan, who she says sexually abused her, and two estranged family members that she does not know.

‘This has been incredibly re-traumatizing for me and unfair to all involved,’ she said.

‘It hurts me deeply to discover that my estranged family grew up scared of me and thinking these lies because of a letter I sent intended to protect me from further abuse from my brother.’

Sainte-Marie also claimed she had never seen the birth certificate the CBC published before and did not know the family members listed on it.

‘I have never lied about my identity. The more I’ve known, the more I’ve pieced together a sense of self from what information has been available to me,’ she said.

‘What I know about my Indigenous ancestry I learned from my growing up mother, who was of Mi’kmaq heritage, and my own research later in life.

‘My mother told me that I was adopted and that I was Native, but there was no documentation as was common for Indigenous children at the time.

‘For decades, I tried to find my birth parents and information about my background. Through that research what became clear, and what I’ve always been honest about: I don’t know where I’m from or who my birth parents are, and I will never know.

‘Which is why, to be questioned in this way is painful, both for me, and for my two families I love so dearly.’

Sainte-Marie has always described herself as belonging to the Cree tribe, and says she was adopted as a child by a white family as part of the infamous Sixties Scoop, when Indigenous children in Canada were removed from their families and adopted by white parents.

But despite Sainte-Marie’s assertions that she is Indigenous, the singer has lost several of the honors that she once claimed.

Last year, Sainte-Marie was stripped of her prestigious Order of Canada award she received in 1997 for her supposed work championing Indigenous causes.

The Order of Canada represents the country’s highest form of recognition for ‘extraordinary contributions to the nation.’

In January, Dalhousie University in Halifax also decided to rescind her honorary degree after a Mi’kmaw student raised questions about the ethics of maintaining the honor.

As Sainte-Marie rose to fame with her anti-war anthem 'Universal Soldier' and 'Now That the Buffalo's Gone' in the 1970s, she told heartfelt stories about having Mi'kmaq heritage through her adoptive mother

Sainte-Marie is now just the second person to have their honorary degree from the University of Toronto rescinded since the school created a Standing Committee on Recognition in 2023.

Last year, the school also announced it rescinded the honorary degree given to Duncan Campbell Scott in 1921, which was in recognition of his contributions to Canadian literature as a poet.

But Scott also worked in the Department of Indian Affairs from 1879 – 1932, serving as deputy superintendent for the last 19 years.

In that role, he pursued assimilation policies like the expansion of Indian Residential Schools and was quoted as saying he wanted to ‘get rid of the Indian problem.’

Audra Simpson, a professor of political anthropology at Columbia University, who is a member of the Kanien’kehá:ka from Kahnawà:ke tribe, told CBC she thought the University of Toronto’s decision was long overdue.

She called the revocation of both Sainte-Marie and Campbell’s honorary degrees ‘a just consequence for both him and her, who have both acted on the imperatives of settler colonialism in different ways and in different time periods.

‘I hope it sends a message,’ Simpson said.

The Daily Mail has reached out to the University of Toronto and Sainte-Marie’s representatives for comment.

Unveiling the Mystery: Seized Ship Near UAE’s Strait of Hormuz Suspected as ‘Floating Armory

The British military confirmed the seizure of the ship, which was operating near the UAE’s strategic Strait of Hormuz. According to reports from the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), unauthorized personnel boarded the vessel while it was positioned approximately 38 nautical miles northeast of Fujairah, a key oil export hub in the region.

Following the incident, UKMTO observed the ship being redirected towards Iranian territorial waters. This development was highlighted in their report on Thursday, raising tensions in an already volatile maritime corridor.

While British authorities have withheld specific details regarding the ownership or the identity of those responsible for the seizure, the BBC has suggested that the vessel in question was the Honduras-flagged Hui Chuan. This vessel was reportedly intercepted within the confines of the Strait, adding a layer of complexity to the unfolding geopolitical drama.

British authorities did not release information on who the ship belonged to or who seized it. Despite the lack of official corroboration, the BBC reported that the Honduras-flagged Hui Chuan was seized in the Strait on Thursday.

Citing the risk-management company Vanguard, the BBC reported that the ship’s operators told Vanguard that the Hui Chuan was operating as a “floating armory” for ships in the Strait to defend themselves from pirates.

In April, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) seized the Panamanian-flagged MSC Francesca and the Epaminondes ships in the Strait.

Fox News Digital contacted UKMTO and Vanguard for further information but did not immediately receive a response.

House Approves ‘Save Our Shrimpers Act’, Bill Advances to Senate for Consideration

SAVANNAH, Ga. — In what could signal a significant leap forward for the local shrimping industry, a key piece of legislation advanced in the legislative process on Wednesday. The bill, known as H.R. 2071 or the Save Our Shrimpers Act, aims to fortify domestic shrimpers against international competition.

With an overwhelming majority, the House passed the bill by a vote of 391-18. The legislation seeks to diminish international rivalry by compelling U.S. representatives at global financial entities, such as the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, to oppose providing financial aid for foreign shrimp farming, processing, and exporting operations.

Proponents argue that the bill marks a pivotal move towards prioritizing American shrimpers and safeguarding their interests in the global market. Among the early champions of this initiative were Lowcountry Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC-01) and Coastal Empire Representative Buddy Carter (R-GA-01), who both played instrumental roles as cosponsors.

Supporters said the bill is a step towards putting American shrimpers first.

Lowcountry Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC-01) was an early cosponsor, alongside Coastal Empire Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA-01).

“South Carolina’s shrimping industry is part of our identity, our heritage, and our economy,” said Congresswoman Mace. “For too long, our shrimpers have been undercut by foreign competitors bankrolled with American tax dollars. The Save Our Shrimpers Act puts an end to it. This is about a level playing field. It is about making sure American tax dollars work for American shrimpers and not against them. We will always go to bat for the hardworking men and women of South Carolina’s coast.”

Georgia and South Carolina have recently pushed for more protections for their shrimpers on the state level. Georgia lawmakers passed House Bill 117, sending it to Gov. Brian Kemp’s desk in early February while Palmetto legislators work on moving their own shrimp bill through the system.

The Save Our Shrimpers Act was received in the Senate Wednesday and referred to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

Boosting Local Workforce: How Skilled Migration Enhances Agricultural Job Markets

0

In brief

  • Farm groups say skilled migrants fill labour shortages, support food security and help sustain regional communities.
  • Agricultural bodies want campaigns highlighting skilled migrants’ role as pressure grows to curb migration.

According to agricultural organizations, skilled migrants do not usurp Australian jobs; rather, they address crucial labor shortages, enhance cultural diversity, and help revitalize rural communities.

Leading agricultural associations have called for an inquiry to consider launching educational initiatives highlighting the vital contributions of skilled migrants. This comes amid demands from conservative parties to limit the influx of overseas arrivals.

The inquiry aims to evaluate the economic, social, and cultural benefits of skilled migration in Australia. Scheduled for a session in Canberra on Friday, it will gather input from farmers, small business representatives, and foreign affairs officials.

Dairy farmers, in particular, are heavily dependent on skilled labor, with more than 40 percent of dairy operations expected to employ overseas workers in 2024, as noted in a joint submission by Australian Dairy Farmers and Dairy Australia.

The submission also emphasized that public trust could be bolstered through clear communication, reinforcing that skilled migration is designed to “complement, not displace, local workers.”

“Their presence reduces misconceptions, strengthens social cohesion, fills local schools, contributes to community organisations, and sustains regional service economies.”

Skilled migrants are also key to food security and the availability of fresh produce, the Australian Meat Industry Council’s submission said.

Public awareness campaigns about overseas workers’ value could be backed by community events to reduce misconceptions and help migrants and long-term residents connect, it said.

“Improved understanding would help shift the narrative from a narrow focus on numbers to an appreciation of who migrants are, what skills they bring, and how they keep regional Australia working.”

Labor is facing intensifying pressure from One Nation and the Coalition to put a lid on migration to reduce demand for housing and services.

Measures revealed in Tuesday’s budget showed that of the 185,000 places allocated for permanent migrants in 2026/27, more than 132,000 will be for skilled workers.

The visa allocations will put downward pressure on net overseas migration, the budget document said.

Anti-immigration rhetoric has resurfaced in recent months.

Since the Bondi Beach terrorist attack in December, One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has claimed overseas arrivals are linked to fraying social cohesion.

Opposition leader Angus Taylor has promised to only allow arrivals equivalent to the number of homes built in the previous year.

A submission to the inquiry from the National Farmers’ Federation said a sustainable workforce was more important than where it was sourced from.

Skilled migrants often brought valuable international expertise and perspectives, it said.

“Passing on their culture and values can only be of benefit to communities in regional Australia.”
