The individual arrested for allegedly sparking the devastating Palisades Fire at the beginning of last year is said to have admired Luigi Mangione, the notorious figure suspected in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. This connection to Mangione highlights a troubling trend of violent offenders reportedly idolizing the controversial figure, sparking concerns among experts about the growing culture of assassination in the United States.

Jonathan Rinderknecht, a 30-year-old former Uber driver, was taken into custody in October 2025. He faces charges of causing destruction of property through fire, linked to the Palisades Fire in California that erupted on New Year’s Day 2025. The blaze wreaked havoc, consuming 23,448 acres and destroying 6,833 structures over the course of more than a month, resulting in the tragic loss of twelve lives. The financial toll of the fire is estimated to be between $35 billion and $45 billion.

Jonathan Rinderknecht — Palisades Fire

Last week, prosecutors presented a court memo detailing Rinderknecht’s expressed admiration for Mangione. This revelation adds a layer of complexity to his case, as it aligns him with a growing group of accused criminals who have drawn inspiration from Mangione’s notorious actions.

As the legal proceedings continue, the case of Jonathan Rinderknecht serves as a stark reminder of the potential influence of figures like Mangione and the implications of their notoriety in shaping violent acts. The conversation about the impact of such figures on criminal behavior is now more pertinent than ever.

Last week, prosecutors filed a memo in court outlining Rinderknecht’s solidarity with Mangione.

“In the months leading up to the fire, he had become increasingly angry with his life and society at large,” prosecutors wrote. “For example, in the weeks and hours leading up to the fire, defendant fixated on Luigi Mangione, who allegedly murdered the UnitedHealthcare CEO in New York City on December 4, 2024.”

Rinderknecht searched the terms “free LuigiMangione,” “lets take down all the billionaires” and “reddit lets kill all the billionaires,” federal prosecutors said, adding that he harbored “resentment for the rich.”

“Many of defendant’s Uber passengers on Dec. 31, 2024 and Jan. 1, 2025, described defendant as angry, intense, driving erratically, and ranting about being ‘pissed off at the world’ and Luigi Mangione, capitalism, and vigilantism,” prosecutors wrote in a court filing.

“When investigators asked defendant why someone might commit arson in the Pacific Palisades, he responded that it would be out of resentment of the rich enjoying their money as ‘we’re basically being enslaved by them’ and compared such an act of ‘desperation’ to the murder for which Mangione was charged,” prosecutors wrote.

Daniel Moreno-Gama — Sam Altman and OpenAI attack

In mid-April, 20-year-old Moreno-Gama allegedly traveled from Texas to San Francisco in a planned attack to kill OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, according to authorities.

He threw a Molotov cocktail at Altman’s home, setting an exterior gate ablaze, according to investigators. He then allegedly went to OpenAI’s headquarters and was caught on surveillance camera throwing a chair at a set of glass doors. He is accused of threatening to burn the building to the ground and kill everyone inside.

In January, Moreno-Gama suggested “Luigi’ing some tech CEOs” in an online exchange with producers of “The Last Invention” podcast, the Wall Street Journal reported.

He later walked back the comments.

Chamel Abdulkarim — Warehouse arson suspect

Abdulkarim, 20, of Highland, California, stands accused of setting ablaze a massive warehouse where he worked on April 7. He allegedly filmed himself sparking the inferno, which destroyed the 1.2 million-square-foot Kimberly-Clark distribution center, a paper product hub, and caused $500 million in damage.

In that video, he complained about his wages.

“If you’re not going to pay us enough to [expletive] live… at least pay us enough not to do this,” he said, according to the Department of Justice affidavit.

Prosecutors allege that he bragged about setting the fire in subsequent texts and phone calls, one of which referenced Mangione and suggested that people would understand his actions.

“Luigi popped that mutherf—–,” Abdulkarim said, according to the federal complaint, adding “a lot of people are going to understand.”

He’s facing charges of arson of a building used in interstate and foreign commerce and faces multiple state felony counts that could significantly increase his prison exposure.

Ryan English — Alleged plot to kill Trump allies

English, who went by “Riley Jane English” and used she/her pronouns, allegedly walked up to a U.S. Capitol Police officer on Jan. 27, 2025 and said, “I’d like to turn myself in.”

English claimed to have two Molotov cocktails and two knives and expressed the desire “to kill [Treasury Secretary] Scott Bessent,” court documents said.

English reportedly left home in Massachusetts and traveled to Washington, D.C., with the intent of killing War Secretary Pete Hegseth, too, whom the suspect referred to as a “Nazi,” along with Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La. English also allegedly expressed a desire to burn down the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank “two blocks from the White House.”

English cited a terminal illness as one factor in the planned attack, and prosecutors used that as justification to hold English without bond.

Prosecutors also said English referenced Mangione.

“As another example, the Defendant specifically mentioned being influenced by Luigi Mangione, the individual accused in the recent murder of United Health Group CEO Brian Thompson,” the court documents said. “The Defendant referred to her call to violence as ‘fate’ or ‘destiny.’ Those statements, coupled with Defendant’s statements that she has only a few months to live, demonstrate that the Defendant is a risk to the community if released.” 

English pleaded guilty in March.

Shane Tamura — NFL headquarters attack

Last July, Shane Tamura committed an attack on the NFL’s headquarters in New York City, which killed four people.

Prosecutors compared his actions to Mangione’s.

“On July 28, 2025, Shane Tamura brought an assault rifle to a Manhattan office building, a short distance away from where Mangione had killed Thompson,” prosecutors wrote. “Tamura shot and killed four people, including an off-duty police officer, an executive of a financial services firm, and a security guard, and he injured others, including an employee of the National Football League (“NFL”). Like Mangione, Tamura left behind a piece of evidence for investigators to find, blaming the NFL and football for causing chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Almost immediately, members of the public sympathetic to the defendant touted Tamura’s actions as a laudable continuation of the defendant’s philosophy.”

Mangione’s attorney did not return a Wednesday comment request, but has said previously that her client does not support political violence.

“As we have stated before in multiple public court filings, Mr. Mangione does not support violent actions and does not condone past or future political violence,” Karen Friedman Agnifino told Fox News Digital in a recent statement. “These repeated attempts to connect him to unrelated acts or to insinuate that he condones or supports these acts are irresponsible, dangerous and prejudicial.”

Gwyneth Paltrow has recently faced backlash for comments perceived as disconnected from reality while discussing wealth disparity.

In a recent installment of “The Goop Podcast,” the 53-year-old actress engaged in a conversation with Kara Swisher. They delved into the impact of Silicon Valley’s tech titans on global society, probing how wealth became a dominating cultural value.

Paltrow questioned, “How did we arrive at this cultural juncture? It’s clear that enormous revenue and profit are central to this issue.”

She continued by pondering, “How did we evolve into a society where only the wealth of predominantly affluent white males seems significant, as they bend rules and appear indifferent to the consequences on health and culture?”

Swisher shared an anecdote about interviewing Meta’s CEO, noting his apparent belief that he isn’t accountable for the broader repercussions of his actions. She emphasized society’s “idolization of innovators and wealth,” suggesting a prevalent mindset that equates financial success with intelligence.

While many were happy this conversation was being had, many took issue with the fact that Paltrow was the one facilitating the conversation.

“Super rich white dudes? Coming from Paltrow that is kinda funny,” one fan wrote in the comments section of an Instagram post promoting the podcast.

“This is quite ironic when both of these people are surrounded with wealth. Gwen, your brand is crazy expensive. What?” another added.

“Gwyneth is worth 200 million so not necessarily considered ‘the rest of us,’” a third commenter added, while a fourth wrote, “Ummmmmm, wut Gwen? Pot, meet kettle.”

According to a New York Times article published in April 2023, Paltrow is worth an estimated $200 million.

The “Shakespeare In Love” actress has gotten backlash many times in the past for promoting expensive wellness products and an unhealthy lifestyle, with many calling her out of touch over the years.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in December 2025, the “Marty Supreme” star shared that she is aware of her reputation and went into detail about how her “privileged” upbringing has fed into years of criticism and explained how she works through the many misconceptions surrounding her reputation.

“It must be a quality that I give off. I come from a very WASPy mother with Mayflower-ish roots, daughter of the American Revolution, all that kind of stuff,” said Paltrow.

“So, I think maybe epigenetically, there is some of that there. And I was a very privileged kid. 

“I grew up on the Upper East Side, and I went to a great school and all the things. So, some of the stuff that he sees, which is also the stuff I’ve been criticized for my whole life, is real.”

Paltrow is the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and late TV director Bruce Paltrow and a goddaughter to Steven Spielberg.

Paltrow went on to say that she finds it “traumatic to be at the whim of these projections,” when she feels that they are “misaligned” with who she actually is.

“My therapist talks about the evil shadow, which is the part of you where rage lives — the part of you that will burn the f—ing house down — and we do damage to ourselves by not embracing our shadows.

“When you close your eyes and get into evil shadow energy, there’s a freedom there, and I’m trying to experiment with that because when I go into evil shadow energy, I don’t care what anyone’s misperception is.”

Actor Ioan Gruffudd has seen his annual earnings drop dramatically from $585,000 to $125,000, reportedly due to what his legal team describes as his ex-wife Alice Evans’ ‘malicious and slanderous’ actions against him. This revelation was brought to light by Gruffudd’s attorney during a court session in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

According to lawyer Joseph Langlois, Evans, 57, embarked on a ‘five-year campaign of false narratives’ aimed at destroying her former husband’s career in the entertainment industry. Langlois argued that Evans’ actions were successful in causing significant damage.

‘The emotional and financial toll on Ioan and his new wife, Bianca Wallace, has been considerable,’ Langlois stated, highlighting Evans’ continuous breach of a restraining order intended to prevent her from sharing false and harmful statements about the couple online.

In his closing remarks at the tense trial, Langlois requested that Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Convey terminate the spousal support Gruffudd is obligated to pay Evans. The actor claims he has already ‘overpaid her by nearly $400,000’ and cites her abusive behavior as further justification for ending the payments.

On the other hand, Evans is seeking a court order to increase the $1,500 monthly spousal support she receives from Gruffudd. Additionally, he is already contributing $3,570 a month in child support for their daughters, Ella, 16, and Elsie, 12.

In March, during the first phase of the trial, Judge Convey slapped Evans with a five-year restraining order over her barrage of negative online posts about Gruffudd, and his second wife, Australian actress Wallace, 33.

On Wednesday, Langlois told the court that in the three years before Gruffudd and Evans split in early 2021, he was earning an average of $585,000 a year ‘as an A-list actor in high demand.’

But in the four years since their breakup ‘his income dropped to an average of $125,000 a year….He is struggling every single month. He had to borrow money to pay for daily necessities.’

Langlois said the drop in Gruffudd’s fortunes was a result of damage to his reputation caused by Evans ‘20,000[ social media posts’ over five years, about he and Wallace, many of them ‘horrendously negative,’ some of them falsely accusing him of being a ‘deadbeat dad, a child abuser, a pedophile.’

Her barrage of abusive social media posts ‘were calculated to damage, if not destroy, his public image and his career as an actor,’ he added.

Langlois argued that Gruffudd’s spousal support payments to Evans should be terminated because, if he continued pay his abuser, that would a victim financing his own abuse.’

Talking of the ’emotional scars’ Evans’ abuse has left, Langlois said that Gruffudd has spent many years, starting as a child actor, building a respected track record in his profession.

‘Once that reputation is ruined, it’s practically impossible to recover,’ said the attorney. ‘Justice demands the termination of spousal support.’

He told the court that Evans would spend four hours a day on social media, ‘claiming she was a victim when she was the perpetrator of abuse. She was feeding the monster of abuse that she created.

‘There were threats of violence against Ioan and Bianca from the followers who drank Alice’s concoction of abuse.’

Langlois said that while Evans had ‘shed a few tears’ of regret over her campaign of abuse against Gruffudd and Wallace, ‘There has been no real remorse.’

Citing provisions in the former couple’s original pre-marital agreement, Langlois maintained that Gruffudd ‘overpaid’ Evans to the tune of $359,000 in the three years after their split.

‘Alice lived rent-free in their former home and he paid all her expenses for two years.’

The lawyer told the court that Evans was making no effort’ to contribute to her own support by not looking for acting work or jobs in other fields, ‘even though she’s multi-talented and fluent in three or four languages.’

And he accused her of filing inaccurate and ‘materially lacking’ statements of her income and expenses to the court.

Gruffudd left his wife of 14 years in 2021 and is now married to aspiring actress Bianca Wallace, whom he met while filming the TV series Harrow in Australia while he was still married. 

The couple welcomed their baby daughter in November of last year. 

In a dramatic twist on the rush to the altar, a Florida man’s frantic bid to attend a wedding was abruptly halted by law enforcement, resulting in an unexpected detour to jail. Deputies reported that Christopher Jones, 29, found himself in handcuffs after being clocked at speeds exceeding 100 mph while allegedly trying to make it to the ceremony on time.

The incident unfolded around 9 a.m. on a Saturday in Brevard County, in the midst of a traffic enforcement initiative known as “Super Speeder Saturday.” This operation specifically targeted individuals driving at dangerously high speeds.

Deputy Caleb Sanchez, actively monitoring traffic, observed Jones speeding at 101 mph in a zone marked for 70 mph. This prompted an immediate intervention, as stated by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Jones, clad in a sharp black suit and a white dress shirt, reportedly explained to deputies that his excessive speed was due to his tardiness for a wedding. His attire, complete with slide sandals, suggested he was indeed “dressed to impress” for the occasion, despite his hasty and hazardous journey.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office released details of Jones’ arrest, highlighting the risks associated with such reckless driving, even when motivated by personal commitments like attending a wedding.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey highlighted the arrest in a social media post, calling it “Super Speeder Saturday — Wedding Crashers Edition,” and noting that Jones was “dressed to impress” when he was taken into custody.

But Ivey made clear that in Brevard County, drivers hitting triple-digit speeds shouldn’t expect a warning.

“Unfortunately for him, he didn’t realize that in Brevard County we don’t give you any warnings when it comes to violations,” the sheriff said.

Instead of making it to the ceremony, Jones was taken to the Brevard County Jail — jokingly referred to by Ivey as “Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge.”

Jones, of Orange Park, was charged with operating a vehicle at 100-plus mph while threatening persons or property, a misdemeanor. He was released later that day on a $500 bond, according to jail records. A court date has not yet been set.

The post quickly drew a wave of reactions online, with some users poking fun at both the situation and Jones’ outfit.

“Everybody focused on the slides… I wanna know how you’re late for a wedding at 9AM???” one commenter wrote.

“Well, the sandals don’t scream ‘dress to impress’ for a wedding,” another added.

Others joked about the circumstances of the event itself, with one person writing, “I gotta know. Was he the groom for said wedding?” while another quipped that if so, “it looked like she got stood up at the altar.”

Authorities say the enforcement push is aimed at cracking down on reckless driving and keeping roadways safe and officials suggest there will likely be more high-speed stops to come.
