Anne Hathaway is currently facing a wave of criticism on social media following her appearance alongside Blake Lively at the Met Gala on Monday night.

Lively’s unexpected appearance at the glamorous event, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, came just after she resolved a high-profile legal conflict with her “It Ends With Us” co-star and director, Justin Baldoni.

After making a striking entrance on the Met’s renowned staircase in a vibrant Atelier Versace gown, Lively was seen mingling inside the museum with Hathaway.

A snapshot capturing Lively’s radiant smile as she wrapped an impeccably spray-tanned arm around Hathaway’s shoulders was shared by Variety on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Tuesday morning.

The image quickly stirred up a storm online, with fans criticizing Hathaway for appearing friendly with Lively. Lively has been at the center of controversy since December 2024, after publicly accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment and retaliation, a topic that has sparked intense debate on the internet.

Some fans accused Lively of using Hathaway for ‘clout’ due to the actress’s boost in popularity amid the release of the The Devil Wears Prada sequel.

Others jokingly speculated Hathaway was being held ‘hostage’ by Lively and that the photo must have been taken against her will.  

‘Poor Anne couldn’t avoid her in time…,’ one commenter penned, with another adding: ‘Blake will grab anyone who will stand with her!!!’

Based on photos currently available from the 2026 gala, Hathaway was just one of three people who spent time with Lively at the event.

Designer Michael Kors, who created Hathaway’s custom, hand-painted gown, and his husband Lance LePere agreed to pose for a photo with Lively inside the museum, along with Hathaway.

Most images of Lively at the Met Gala were of her bombshell red carpet return, which came as a surprise to many fans tuning into the event from home via Vogue’s livestream.

The appearance came as she finally reached a settlement with Baldoni’s production company, Wayfarer Studios, as well as his PR agency, over claims of retaliation and breach of contract related to their 2024 movie, It Ends With Us. 

Lively gave no hint of the off-screen drama as she appeared completely unbothered in a show-stopping archival Atelier Versace gown from the brand’s Spring 2006 collection.

However, in a red carpet interview, the Gossip Girl star claimed she was ‘shy’ and wished she could have her and husband Ryan Reynolds’s four kids accompany her.

‘I’m shy, I just like to have my kids with me,’ Lively said, revealing her custom-made handbag featured watercolor drawings by each of her offspring: James, 11, Inez, nine, Betty, six, and Olin, three. 

Her interview came shortly after a joint statement from Lively and Baldoni’s teams about the lawsuit settlement was released to the public.

They said It Ends With Us remained a ‘source of pride’ to all who worked to bring it to life and emphasized its mission to raise awareness for domestic violence survivors.

The statement did not include an apology from either party, who have been locked in a messy court battle since December 2024, when Lively first launched her multimillion-dollar suit.

Instead, Baldoni and Lively’s teams said it was their ‘sincere hope that this brings closure and allows all involved to move forward constructively and in peace, including a respectful environment online.’

Wayfarer, It Ends With Us Movie LLC, and The Agency Group (TAG PR) are said to be ecstatic at the way in which this matter was resolved.

The surprise settlement comes after a judge last month sensationally gutted Lively’s case, dismissing ten of her 13 claims, including all of the sexual harassment allegations.

The trial was still due to kick off on May 18, but covering only three counts: retaliation, aiding and abetting retaliation, and breach of an agreement, known as the Contract Rider.

The ruling also meant that Baldoni was no longer a named defendant in the case.

On Monday, Lively finally reached a settlement with Baldoni’s production company, Wayfarer Studios, as well as his PR agency, over claims of retaliation and breach of contract relating to 2024 movie It Ends With Us

Instead, Wayfarer, along with the company he set up to make It Ends With Us and TAG PR, was due to go on trial for the alleged ‘smear campaign’ against Lively. It denied the claims.

Baldoni and Wayfarer had countersued Lively and Reynolds for $400 million, accusing them of defamation and extortion. The judge dismissed the claims last June.

It Ends With Us, an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling 2016 novel that begins as a romance but takes a dark turn into domestic violence, was released in August 2024.

The film exceeded box office expectations with a $50 million debut.

These outcomes were part of seven key races that served as a litmus test for Trump’s influence in this staunchly Republican state.

Blake Fiechter, enjoying the support of Trump, emerged victorious over state Senator Travis Holdman. Meanwhile, Senator Greg Goode successfully defended his seat against Brenda Wilson, who also had Trump’s endorsement.

These races were sparked by Trump targeting seven Indiana state senators who had resisted his administration’s push for mid-decade redistricting, a move intended to enhance Republican prospects in the upcoming midterms.

This internal GOP conflict has been both expensive and unprecedented, intensifying divisions within the party as the November midterm elections approach, where the balance of Congressional power is at stake. Trump’s supporters have poured over $8.3 million into these typically overlooked state races.

Holdman, a lawyer from the Fort Wayne area, was elected to the Indiana Senate in 2008. He was chairman of the Senate Republican caucus and was considered by his colleagues to be even-tempered.

Before the polls closed on Tuesday, Holdman said, “I’m at peace with however it goes.”

Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith said the primary is about how far the party will go to get an edge over Democrats – a contest between “the Republicans who tend to want to avoid the fight and the Republicans who feel like we need to fight.”

“So the only question is, ‘Will you fight or will you get trampled by the other side?’” said Beckwith, who is supporting the Trump-backed challengers.

Indiana rejected Trump on redistricting

Trump began leaning on Republican-led states last year to redraw their congressional maps to make it easier for his party to hold its thin majority in the U.S. House. Although redistricting is normally done once a decade, after a new census, Trump wanted to abandon tradition to gain a political edge.

Texas was the first to follow through, and the White House pressured Indiana to go along too. Vice President JD Vance met with state politicians in Washington and Indianapolis, and Trump weighed in by conference call.

However, Indiana senators rebuffed the effort, one of the president’s first significant political defeats of his second term.

The redistricting fight divided Republicans in Indiana, a state Trump won three times by no less than 16 points. Republican Gov. Mike Braun, U.S. Sen. Jim Banks and organizations such as Turning Point Action have worked alongside Trump to unseat the incumbents.

Jim Bopp, a prominent Indiana attorney who leads a political action committee aligned with Braun, predicted that Trump’s support will carry the day for the challengers.

“Republican voters overwhelmingly support Trump, and when they find out Trump has endorsed a particular Senate candidate, they swing their support behind them,” he said.

Voters had mixed views on Trump’s involvement

In Columbus, Ronda Millig voted for Trump-backed challenger Michelle Davis over redistricting opponent state Sen. Greg Walker.

“I really believed some of the things I had heard about him,” said Millig, a retiree. “It didn’t seem like he was someone I wanted in office.”

But Milling did not say that Trump’s endorsement was the deciding factor.

“That doesn’t always mean anything,” she said.

Emily Bohall Board, also voting in Columbus, said she had never voted in a Republican primary before Tuesday. But the redistricting influenced her to vote for Walker.

“Greg Walker is the only option not supported by Donald Trump, and I have been very upset about everything Trump has done,” said Board, who is 37 and an occupational therapist.

Madison Long, who is 28 and a lawyer, who also voted for Walker, criticizing Davis for her ties to Trump.

“She doesn’t have any promises of her own or any agenda of her own. Her goal is to just follow Trump,” Long said. “I find that extremely concerning given the nature of the nationwide politics.”

Indiana opposition came from constituents, former governor

Former Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels, who had stepped away from politics after leaving the governorship in 2015, reemerged to help raise money for targeted incumbents.

The senators who broke with Trump said they were listening to constituents who were overwhelmingly against his redistricting plan. Some said they didn’t like Trump’s aggressive tone in pushing the plan.

“We hate to be told what to do,” said Mike Murphy, a former Republican state representative. “We’re very independent-thinking people. So when Donald Trump and his goons come in and try to tell us that we need to redistrict to help his political future, that’s the worst thing you can do.”

He said Trump and those spending big money to take out the incumbents don’t understand Indiana politics.

“There’s just so many misjudgments on people’s part because they tend to fly at the 50,000-foot level, and they don’t go to the barbecues and the church fish fries and the things that make Indiana politics,” Murphy said.

Bopp, who supports the Trump-backed challengers, said the primary is a chance for Indiana Republicans to express how important it is to redraw the congressional lines there.

“It’s not a matter of Trump’s power,” Bopp said. “It’s about Republican primary voters who support his agenda and don’t want a Democratic House that will be hugely destructive to the Trump presidency and the country.”

Voters going to the polls in Highland, Indiana had a long list of candidates to vote for up and down the ballot. Like most places, cost-of-living issues are top of mind.

“I’m 85 years old, and I always vote. Because I think it’s important to get the people in that I know are going to do a good job,” Indiana voter Mary Ann Kenders said.

Incumbent Dan Dernulc is facing a primary challenge from businessman Trevor De Vries, who is endorsed by Trump.

“Midterms are coming up, and people want to read the tea leaves and want to use this in a bellwether,” Notre Dame professor Joshua Kaplan said.

And while few national resources have been put into these opponent’s campaigns, political science professor emeritus Kaplan says, Trump-aligned political action committees have gone all in.

“Normally you’d see $100,000. We’re seeing millions being poured into these races,” Kaplan said.

On Truth Social, Trump weighed in, saying “Good luck to those Great Indiana Senate Candidates who are running against people who couldn’t care less about our Country, or about keeping the Majority in Congress.”

Republican voter Eric Parker didn’t say who he voted for.

“I guess it’s everybody’s aspiration to have Trump endorse you. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. That’s not why I would vote for someone,” Parker said.

A man from California has been sentenced to a term of 15 years to life in prison after admitting guilt in the gruesome murder of his teenage half-brother, who was living with cerebral palsy and required a wheelchair.

Zuberi Sharp, aged 26, received his sentencing on Tuesday, following his guilty plea in March for the second-degree murder of his 15-year-old half-brother, Zayde. This information was confirmed by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.

Sharp also confessed to several aggravating circumstances, including causing serious bodily harm, using a weapon during the crime, and targeting a particularly vulnerable victim.

The incident occurred on December 5, 2024, when deputies responded to a 911 call placed by Zayde’s mother. The call reported that her son had been hit in the head with an object at their home on the 400 block of Jeanne Court in Newbury Park, shortly after 8 p.m.

The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that Zuberi Sharp has been sentenced to a prison term ranging from 15 years to life.

The victim’s mother reported that Sharp had attacked Zayde with a pickaxe inside a shed in the backyard.

The teen’s uncle heard a loud thud and rushed to the shed to check on the two brothers. He observed Sharp standing over Zayde while holding a pickaxe.

Zayde was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

Meanwhile, Sharp fled the scene and was later found at nearby Newbury Park High School, where deputies took him into custody after receiving reports of a man acting erratically on the football field, authorities said.

The incident forced a lockdown, as student-athletes were on the field when he arrived.

“This sentence reflects the seriousness of a violent and senseless act against a vulnerable victim,” Senior Deputy District Attorney David Russell said in a press release. “While nothing can undo this loss, it ensures the defendant is held accountable and that the victim’s family has been spared the trauma of a trial.”

Investigators never released a motive for the attack, but family members told KTLA they believed Sharp was having a manic episode at the time.

“It’s hard,” Zayde’s mother previously told the outlet at a ceremony to honor her son. “It’s been really hard. Pain every day.”

Tuesday marked the first opportunity for Giancarlo Stanton to return from the 10-day injured list. However, it appears the veteran designated hitter is still not poised for an immediate comeback.

Stanton, who is contending with a “low-grade” strain in his right calf, has yet to commence any running activities, according to Yankees manager Aaron Boone. The 36-year-old is still grappling with the ongoing discomfort of the injury.

“He’s doing OK and has managed to take some swings,” Boone reported on Tuesday prior to the Yankees’ 7-4 victory over the Rangers.

“The issue is lingering a bit. It still feels minor, but we’re not ready to push it just yet,” Boone added.
