An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent involved in a January shooting has quietly resumed work under specific conditions, according to a recent report.

Jonathan Ross, aged 43, has transitioned to handling administrative and investigative tasks following his involvement in the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good on January 7 in Minneapolis, reported by PunchUp.

The incident gained significant public attention, with conflicting narratives emerging. Some claim Good was trying to harm Ross, while others argue she was merely attempting to flee the scene.

Initially, Ross was placed on administrative leave for a brief period of three days before being relocated out of state, as detailed in the report.

According to Department of Homeland Security officials, Ross was reassigned due to delays in the investigation into Good’s shooting.

The Department of Justice previously said ICE’s internal affairs unit was conducting a parallel review alongside the FBI probe.

But unnamed senior officials claimed Ross’ accountability process was effectively frozen since the internal investigation was paralyzed until the FBI finished its own probe, per the report.

One senior ICE official told the outlet that the FBI needed to ‘s*** or get off the pot.’

They explained the limbo surrounding Ross had prevented ICE from speaking publicly about the killing or attempting to rebuild public confidence.

Senior DHS officials told the outlet that the White House directed the decision to freeze Minnesota state investigators from federal evidence, as well as the crime scene.

The report claimed that one top official said the investigation into Good’s killing ‘makes us look like idiots.’

For now, Ross has not faced any further action in the mother-of-three’s shooting and remains on active duty.

The Department of Homeland Security said that the fatal shooting remained ‘under investigation.’

‘All shootings are initially reviewed by an appropriate law enforcement agency,’ a DHS spokesperson told the Daily Beast.

‘Following a review of the incident by the appropriate investigative agency, ICE and CBP conduct an independent review of the critical incident,’ the agency added.

FBI agents had launched a civil rights investigation into Ross after Good’s death, according to the Washington Post.

An initial review determined that sufficient grounds existed to open a probe into his actions but it was seemingly never pursued. However, the FBI pushed back against that report and called the claims false.

‘The decisions referenced here were not made by the FBI,’ the agency wrote January 19 on X.

‘The FBI still continues to pursue evidence in this case with our federal partners, investigating the shooting incident as well as the ongoing violent criminal actors and their funding sources,’ the statement continued.

‘The facts are the initiator, and the facts do not support civil rights investigation.’

The Department of Homeland Security previously said that Ross suffered internal bleeding to his torso following the encounter with Good.

Seventeen days after Good’s death, federal officers shot dead nurse Alex Pretti, 37, during the same targeted immigration enforcement operation.

DHS officials said Pretti approached officers with a loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun, though witness videos from the scene appeared to show Pretti holding his phone up – not a firearm.

Footage suggested that an officer took Pretti’s weapon from his waistband and walked away with it moments before he was killed.

The killings prompted mass protests across the US and ended in DHS Secretary Kristi Noem leaving her position to eventually be replaced by Markwayne Mullin. 

FBI agents reportedly launched a civil rights investigation into Ross after killing Good, though the agency has pushed back on that claim

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, sought confirmation that Ross had not been reassigned to New York

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, reacted to the report of Ross’ reassignment by sending a letter, dated Wednesday, to border czar Tom Homan.

Hochul said she was seeking confirmation that Ross had not been reassigned to New York state.

‘If Jonathan Ross has been reassigned to work in New York, I demand that he be immediately removed and not redeployed unless cleared after a full, independent investigation,’ Hochul wrote in her letter, which was published by Politico.

‘I have no confidence that Ross can be trusted to safely interact with the public,’ she added. ‘Nor should you.’

‘If ICE is truly interested in going after the ‘worst of the worst,’ it should start with accountability for those responsible for the killing of Renee Good,’ Hochul said.

The Daily Mail has reached out to the DHS for further comment.

A man from Polk County, Florida, known for frequently portraying Santa Claus, has been arrested following allegations that he attempted to engage in sexual activities with a minor.

Thomas Allen Hicks, aged 68, was among 19 individuals apprehended as part of an investigation targeting those allegedly seeking to travel for illicit encounters with minors, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

According to arrest records, Hicks, who often dons the Santa suit, allegedly used a prostitution website with the intent of arranging a meeting with what he believed to be a 13-year-old girl, supposedly being made available by her father.

However, the supposed encounter was a sting operation orchestrated by an undercover deputy. Communications between Hicks and the deputy revealed that Hicks allegedly offered $200 in exchange for the encounter with the young girl, as stated by the sheriff’s office.

An undercover deputy was behind the fake ad, though, police said. As Hicks began messaging the deputy, the sheriff’s office said, he told the deputy he would pay $200 to have sex with the girl. 

Later in their conversation, Hicks allegedly revealed his location to “meet up,” where he was caught and cuffed.

“I talked to the real Santa Claus today, and he’s pissed,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said during a news conference, FOX 13 reported. “He said it’s people like that who give me a bad reputation and I spend all this time going all around the world giving presents to all the good boys and girls. Sheriff, I’m glad you got him locked up.

“You can’t fix these people. They’ve got a hitch in their giddy up. Their elevator don’t go all the way to the top. It stops at P – pedophile floor. It stops at P – predator floor. It stops at C – Child predator floor. These are dangerous people.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to Hicks’s attorney for comment.

Prior to his arrest, Hicks worked for Tri-County Human Services, a behavioral health clinic. He has since been fired.

“Tri-County Human Services is aware that Tom Hicks, Marketing Manager, was recently arrested in connection with allegations of inappropriate conduct. Tri-County took immediate and appropriate action to terminate this individual’s employment to ensure the continued safety and well-being of our staff and the individuals we serve each day,” the company said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“As this is now an ongoing legal matter, management will not be commenting on the specific details or unverified information related to this situation. Tri-County supports the Polk County Sheriff’s office in their investigation and activities to maintain the safety of the community. Mr. Hicks did not have access to client files or their electronic health record and was not able to gather any data related to child information at any time during his employe. Tri-County Human Services, its Board, and management team remains fully committed to maintaining a safe, professional, and respectful workplace for all staff, clients, and community partners.”

As for the rest of the suspects, the PCSO said the multi-day joint operation brought about 85 felony charges and eight misdemeanors total. 

“It never ceases to amaze us how many suspects travel to have sex with who they believe are children, especially here in Polk County where we proactively investigate and arrest those who prey on children. Speaking of believing, we even arrested Santa Claus during this undercover operation.”

In a surprising turn of events this week, Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson’s team interrupted an interview with a local journalist, halting discussions on the city’s escalating gun violence and the potential use of surveillance cameras following a recent shooting. The interview, conducted by Chris Daniels of KOMO News, sought to address pressing community concerns.

During the exchange, Daniels questioned Mayor Wilson about the noticeable uptick in gun-related incidents and probed whether the city might reconsider its stance on deploying more surveillance technology. Just as Wilson was about to delve into the issue, a staff member interjected, cutting her response short.

“I appreciate it, but let’s keep it on topic, OK?” the staffer interceded, redirecting the conversation and leaving the questions about surveillance measures unanswered.

Prior to the interruption, Mayor Wilson had commented on the recent shooting incident, mentioning that initial investigations suggested it wasn’t a targeted attack. She contextualized the episode within the broader public safety issues that Seattle is currently grappling with.

Wilson had earlier addressed the shooting, saying there was no indication it was targeted and framing the incident within broader public safety challenges facing the city.

“I’ll just say, you know, we don’t have any indication that that shooting was targeted or anything like that,” she told Daniels.

Daniels continued to press the issue, citing concerns from residents who say gun violence has increased and that more surveillance could help deter crime. He was quickly interrupted by Wilson’s staffer.

“We just need to keep it within the constraints of the event itself,” the staffer said.

Daniels challenged the interruption, arguing the question was relevant to public concerns and the mayor’s recent experience, telling the staffer, “It looks worse when you jump in like that.”

After the initial interruption, Wilson did later speak to Daniels again and directly addressed the surveillance question, saying the incident did not alter her position.

“Not really,” she said when asked whether the shooting changed her perspective on expanding surveillance.

“I believe that CCTV cameras have an important role to play in our public safety system,” Wilson said.

“We also have to be very careful to make sure that our data storage, security, sharing practices don’t make that system vulnerable to misuse and abuse.”

She pointed to potential risks involving federal authorities and other actors accessing such data, “whether that’s by federal immigration enforcement or by other bad actors.”

Wilson said the city is conducting a review before expanding surveillance measures.

“That is why we are doing a data and privacy audit before we move forward with expanding CCTV surveillance in the city,” she said. 

The self-described democratic socialist mayor made headlines recently by bidding farewell to millionaires considering leaving the city over a recently passed tax passed by Washington state Democrats, waving “bye” to wealthy residents when asked about the topic during a Seattle University event earlier this month.

In Lake Forest, California, a mother is now facing an involuntary manslaughter charge following the tragic death of an elderly man. This incident involved an electric motorcycle ridden by her teenage son, which struck the victim.

The victim, Ed Ashman, was an 81-year-old Vietnam War veteran cherished by the community for his role as a substitute teacher. He succumbed to his injuries two weeks after the collision, which occurred as he was making his way home from El Toro High School, where he worked.

Authorities have identified the mother as 50-year-old Tommi Jo Mejer. Prosecutors assert that she had previously been cautioned about the dangers of allowing her 14-year-old son to ride the e-motorcycle illegally.

Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer expressed his sentiments, saying, “An American hero who survived combat missions in Vietnam was tragically unable to survive crossing a street in Lake Forest. This occurred because a 14-year-old, permitted by his mother to ride an e-motorcycle, was doing so illegally and recklessly, despite being warned multiple times. This negligence ultimately led to the loss of a life.”

The unfortunate event took place on April 16. According to investigators, Mejer’s son was riding a Surron e-motorcycle and performing stunts, such as “doing wheelies,” near El Toro High School at the time he collided with Ashman.

Mejer was previously charged with one felony count of child endangerment, one felony count of accessory after the fact to a crime, one misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, one misdemeanor count of loaning a motor vehicle to an unlicensed driver and one misdemeanor count of providing false information to a peace officer.

The law says e-bikes manufactured to stay under 20 mph have no age or licensing restrictions, but those that have been modified or can reach higher speeds are considered e-motorcycles and require a motorcycle license, insurance and registration.

Investigators say Mejer was warned by sheriff’s deputies about letting her son illegally ride the e-motorcycle in June of last year. The sheriff’s department said deputies spent nearly 30 minutes explaining to her that her son could not legally ride the e-motorcycle, and that she would face criminal charges if she continued to let him.

“We have her on body-worn camera talking about and understanding the dangers and the illegality of this particular vehicle,” Spitzer said.

Mejer marks the third parent in Orange County this year alone charged with illegally allowing their child to ride an e-motorcycle.

Meanwhile, in Utah, prosecutors have accused the defense team of Tyler Robinson of misleading the public through their court filings. This accusation came before the defense’s attempt to have the authorities sanctioned for what they claim was an effort to “set the record straight.”

Interestingly, the prosecutors highlighted that the defense’s claims had gained significant media attention, going viral and further complicating the case.

The legal team for Robinson has previously argued that media coverage jeopardizes his right to a fair trial. They have filed a motion seeking to prohibit news cameras from future court proceedings.

Deputy Utah County Attorney Christopher Ballard’s motion came in response to a defense push to have prosecutors sanctioned for speaking on the issue outside of the courtroom.

He argued that prosecutors have done nothing wrong because while court rules, like Utah Rule of Professional Conduct 3.6(c), and a gag order limit what can be said about the case, they allow attorneys on both sides to “set the record straight.”

Robinson’s defense lawyers, in a court filing, asserted that “the ATF was unable to identify the bullet recovered at autopsy to the rifle allegedly tied to Mr. Robinson.”

The claim, which Ballard described as misleading and “misstated,” generated millions of views from just one report — and inspired additional coverage in local and national media, the prosecutor wrote.

It also fanned the flames of unverified claims that other people could have been responsible for Kirk’s murder.

But the defense left out a crucial piece of context, according to Ballard.

“The ATF was unable to identify or exclude the bullet as having been fired from the rifle,” he wrote, emphasizing the missing information in italics.

“Defendant reinforced this misleading inference by following it up with, ‘the defense may very well decide to offer the testimony of the ATF firearm analyst as exculpatory evidence,’” he added.

In response, members of the prosecution team attempted to provide more context in public interviews, explaining the ATF’s conclusions while noting the defendant was innocent until proven guilty, Ballard wrote.

Judge Tony Graf Jr. eventually unsealed the ATF report in order to give the public direct access to the source material.

Ballard asked the judge to deny the defense motion and their request to have prosecutors turn over internal communications, which he argued are privileged work products.

If the prosecution’s public statements are the issue, the defense already has them, he noted.

An appendix to the ATF report explained that “inconclusive” findings mean that it was “an examiner’s opinion that there is an insufficient quality and/or quantity of individual characteristics to identify or exclude.”

Experts have told Fox News Digital that it’s not unusual for a bullet to disintegrate on impact, making ballistic identification unlikely.

However, prosecutors have recovered a spent casing that is both consistent with the bullet and the alleged murder weapon.

Shortly before Kirk’s assassination, Robinson allegedly climbed to a rooftop across the courtyard from where Kirk was speaking and fired a single shot from his grandfather’s Mauser rifle.

Gruesome video shows the bullet struck Kirk in the neck in front of a crowd of roughly 3,000 people. He died from the injury.

Prosecutors have said campus police found marks left behind on the gravel rooftop moments after the shooting “consistent with a sniper having lain [there] — impressions in the gravel potentially left by the elbows, knees and feet of a person in a prone shooting position.”

Police recovered the rifle wrapped in a blanket in a patch of woods near campus. And prosecutors have said that text messages between Robinson and his romantic partner, Lance Twiggs, allegedly discuss wanting to retrieve the rifle.

“Stuck in Orem for a little while longer yet,” Robinson allegedly wrote in the hours after the murder. “Shouldn’t be long until I can come home, but I gotta grab my rifle still.”

Twiggs is cooperating with investigators and has not been charged with a crime.

Robinson could face the death penalty if convicted of the top charge against him, aggravated murder.
