Lauren Holly, now 62, gained initial recognition for her role as Deputy Sheriff Maxine Stewart on the popular TV series “Picket Fences.”

She rose to stardom in the 1993 biographical film “Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story,” portraying the wife of the legendary martial artist, Linda Lee.

Holly’s career continued to flourish as she starred as Mary Swanson in the 1994 comedy blockbuster “Dumb and Dumber,” where she not only shared the spotlight with Jim Carrey but also fell in love with him.

Their on-screen chemistry turned into a real-life romance, leading to their marriage in September 1996. However, the union was short-lived, ending in divorce by July 1997.

Holly also played Darian Smalls in 1996’s Beautiful Girls and Gigi in 2000’s What Women Want.

She was born in Pennsylvania and attended Sarah Lawrence College in New York.

Her acting career began at age 20 when she appeared as Carla Walicki in two episodes of Hill Street Blues. 

She was also in one episode of Spenser: For Hire. 

At age 23, she joined the cast of the soap opera All My Children as Julie Rand Chandler. She was on the show from 1986 until 1989. 

She portrayed the comic book character Betty Cooper in the TV movie Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again in 1990.

In 1992, Holly’s big break came when she was cast as small-town Deputy Sheriff Maxine Stewart opposite veteran movie actor Tom Skerritt on CBS’s Picket Fences for four seasons.

She also had a part as a doctor in Sydney Pollack’s 1995 remake of Sabrina with Harrison Ford.

And she could be seen with Kelsey Grammer as Lieutenant Emily Lake in the 1996 comedy Down Periscope.

In 1999, she starred in the film Any Given Sunday as the wife of the Sharks quarterback, played by Dennis Quaid.

A rare Kobe Bryant trading card has recently fetched an extraordinary price at auction.

The card, a 1997 edition from the Metal Universe series known as Precious Metal Gems Green, was acquired by Alt, a prominent trading card marketplace, for an astounding $3.15 million, the company announced on Thursday.

This acquisition, facilitated through Alt’s specialized sports card investment fund, has set a new record, marking it as the most valuable Kobe Bryant card ever sold.

The card features an iconic image of Bryant soaring through the air set against a striking metallic green backdrop. It has been graded PSA 5 for its condition.

With only 10 of these exclusive cards in existence, Alt’s CEO, Leore Avidar, described it as “the card you dreamed about” during childhood.

“It was on every collector’s wall, in every price guide, at the top of every wish list,” Avidar said in a statement on Alt’s Instagram page. “Acquiring it for our fund is personal, but it’s also a reflection of where this market has gone.”

Another copy of the card, given an 8.5 grade by Beckett, previously sold for $2 million in 2022.

“I’d argue this is the best Kobe Bryant card out there,” Avidar told ESPN on Thursday. “They only made 10 of them, it shines, and it’s the first year of basketball PMGs — which there’s a collector base for.

“I’ve been trying to get one. It’s always been my thing.”

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WLS) — The Chicago Bears have made significant progress, but there’s still considerable work ahead before they confirm their long-term presence in Illinois.

Recently, the Illinois House approved legislation that could potentially offer tax incentives for constructing a new stadium.

With the legislation, dubbed the “mega-project” bill, now advancing to the Senate, many residents of Arlington Heights expressed hope on Thursday that the Chicago Bears would continue to be a cherished emblem of Illinois pride.

Ernie Rose from Touchdown Arlington remarked, “We’ve been at this for several years, and this is the first indication that we’re nearing a conclusion here in Arlington Heights. There’s a growing sense of optimism that something substantial will come to fruition.”

The passage of the “mega-project” bill has sparked a wave of excitement throughout Arlington Heights.

“Definitely a step in the right direction,” Cheryl Kolasa, who lives in Arlington Heights, said. “We have been waiting for this and going to all kind of meetings and hopefully it’s coming.”

People who live in Arlington Heights said they hope this means the Bears are one step closer toward moving to their village.

“You will not be able to get a ticket to the Bears game if they come to Arlington Heights for years because the support will be so phenomenal,” Gary Aspelian, who lives in Arlington Heights, said.

Still, the team said there’s more work to be done as far as infrastructure funding, saying in a statement, “We welcome the progress made on the House’s version of the mega project bill; however, additional amendments are necessary to make the Arlington Heights site feasible for our stadium project,”

Ernie Rose with Touchdown Arlington, said “All we’ve asked all along is to get an infrastructure in place that allows our residents, through our village board, to negotiate between the Bears. And this Bill provides us the framework for that.”

The Bears have owned the former home of the Arlington Race Track for more than three years now with plans to build a multibillion dollar stadium.

Under the mega-project bill, the Bears wouldn’t have to pay traditional property taxes.

Instead, they’d work out a deal with local leaders to make what’s called a “payment in lieu of taxes” or PILOT.

Then, by law, about half of that money would go back into property tax relief for homeowners.

“The only thing that would kind of be up in the air for me is the commute that affects my drive,” Bianca Garcia, who works in Arlington Heights, said. “I know some people are really excited so I’m like it would be really cool, the train is right there, and it’s hard getting in from Soldier Field.”

“Many, many residents are OK with it,” Kolasa said. “They’re on board with it. We’re excited. Some people you’re never gonna make them happy. They were like oh the traffic and the taxes and all that. I feel it’s only going to make it even better. Just bring people and money to the area.”

Governor JB Pritzker’s Office said this marks an important first step, saying, “Governor Pritzker has been clear and consistent for years that the Bears should remain in Illinois, and that any legislation needs to protect taxpayers.”

Arlington Heights released a statement saying they are encouraged and will continue working with the Bears and state legislators.

“I’m truly encouraged by yesterday’s progress and optimistic that we can maintain this momentum as the Bill moves through the legislative approval process,” said Mayor Jim Tinaglia. “Our belief that this property offers immense potential for the Chicago Bears, the region, and the State of Illinois, has never wavered. Now that the Bill passed the House, we’re one step closer to working towards a world class site concept that is a win for our community, the team, and the region as a whole.”

If Illinois lawmakers can’t come up with a deal the Bears like, Indiana lawmakers already passed their own legislation to entice the team across state lines, as well, which is still very much in play.

A prominent genetic genealogist has suggested that it may take several months to obtain testing results from a hair sample currently being analyzed by the FBI. This sample, originating from a private laboratory in Florida, is part of ongoing efforts to uncover the truth about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. However, there is optimism that answers might emerge sooner than expected.

It has been over 80 days since the presumed abduction of Guthrie from her residence in the Catalina Foothills area of northern Tucson, Arizona. Nancy Guthrie is the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie.

CeCe Moore, a leading genetic genealogist at Parabon Nanolabs in Virginia, shared her insights with Fox News Digital, stating, “Typically, these processes span several months. However, given the high-profile nature of this case, it is likely to be prioritized, potentially expediting the timeline. Success also hinges on a bit of luck, as multiple attempts to retrieve DNA may be necessary.”

From the outset, there has been noticeable tension between local and federal authorities in this investigation. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department opted to forward the DNA evidence to DNA Labs International, a private laboratory in Florida, bypassing the FBI’s facilities.

More than 11 weeks later, tests on a hair sample have led to no publicly known advancement in the case, and authorities finally transferred the sample to the FBI.

“FBI asked to test this DNA 2 months ago with the same technology we’ve always had — when the local sheriff instead sent it to a private lab,” said Ben Williamson, the bureau’s assistant director of public affairs. “Any further developments we will share as soon as appropriate.”

It remains to be seen who the hair belongs to and whether they could be considered a suspect.

Due to the lack of answers, experts like Moore believe the hair sample is rootless, making DNA testing more complicated but not impossible.

“Hopefully that will mean the SNP profile can be created more quickly than is typical in my experience, so the IGG can begin to identify the owner of that hair,” she said.

IGG is investigative genetic genealogy, the field she specializes in. It involves a combination of DNA profiles and traditional research, where investigators combine genetics, public records and other information to gin up leads that can help identify a person of interest through their heritage.

“At that point, we just have to hope that the hair actually belongs to Nancy’s kidnapper and not someone else who happened to visit her or had their hair transferred to her home,” Moore said.

Rootless hair samples helped land Long Island serial killer Rex Heuermann in prison decades after his first murder. He pleaded guilty earlier this month and is expected to receive multiple life sentences in June.

San Francisco-based Astrea Forensics, which did lab work on the Heuermann case for the FBI, is now expected to be involved in the Guthrie investigation.

Lab officials contacted by Fox News Digital have declined to comment.

A combined reward of more than $1.2 million in the case remains unclaimed.

During a recent court hearing, prosecutors presented allegations that singer D4vd’s confiscated phone contained a substantial amount of child pornography. This revelation follows his charge of murder.

David Anthony Burke, known professionally as D4vd, is facing charges of first-degree murder related to the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, an accusation formally made on April 20.

The 21-year-old artist appeared in court looking solemn, wearing an orange prison jumpsuit layered over a tan t-shirt, and was restrained to his seat.

Marilyn Bednarski, one of Burke’s defense attorneys, requested the commencement of preliminary hearings, marking the first occasion for the singer to speak publicly since the allegations surfaced.

In response to Judge Charlaine F. Olmedo’s question about his lawyer’s ability to manage multiple cases concurrently, D4vd simply replied, “Yes ma’am,” indicating his agreement.

Speaking about the volume of digital evidence that will need to be looked through for the case, Prosecutor Beth Silverman revealed to the room that D4vd allegedly had child porn on his iPhone.

It is unclear if the explicit child images are of the victim, Rivas Hernandez.  

Prosecutor Silverman said: ‘He had an iPhone and it contained a significant amount of child pornography and under the law child porn cannot be obtained without certain precautions in place.’

Silverman explained that they can have a specific computer in the DA’s office that will handle the child porn evidence. She said: ‘I cannot turn that type of materials over.’ 

Bednarski said the defense was not expecting to obtain all of the evidence in the case right away.

‘We are asking for the basic.. physical evidence. We believe the court has inherent authority to control the process of the prelim and proceed without delay. … They arrested Mr. Burke last Thursday, and he is still in custody. We don’t see a reason for them not to produce it.’

The felony complaint against D4vd, revealed on Monday, contained fresh claims, including that Burke allegedly committed the crime for financial gain and used a ‘sharp instrument’ to murder the young girl, who was found dead inside his Tesla.

Digital and forensic evidence suggests he murdered her to protect his music career from being threatened by the exposure of his underage relationship, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J Hochman said.

Rivas, whose mutilated body was found seven months ago, was allegedly a witness to a crime and ‘was intentionally killed because of that fact,’ the document claims.  

The severity of the first-degree murder charge makes the singer, 21, eligible for the death penalty if he is convicted. He is currently being held in prison with no bail.

 Rivas’s remains were discovered in the front trunk of a Tesla that had been impounded at a Hollywood tow yard in September last year.

Police say the vehicle was registered to Burke’s address in Texas.

The singer was formally charged with first-degree murder with special circumstances, continuous lewd acts with an individual under 14 and mutilating human remains of a body.

Her autopsy, also unearthed this week, revealed that the victim sustained knife wounds to her liver and her chest.

The harrowing report reveals that her ring and pinky finger had also been mutilated. 

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office explained the special circumstances for D4vd’s first-degree murder charge, which includes ‘lying in wait, committing this crime for financial gain or murdering a witness in an investigation.’

The charges, filed in California, carry a maximum sentence of life without the possibility of parole and the death penalty.

D4vd’s defense lawyer entered not guilty pleas to all counts during his first court appearance on Monday. 

Rivas Hernandez was reported missing by her family in 2024, when she was 13.

Prosecutors say she then fell victim to continuous sexual abuse by Burke for at least a year from September 2023 to September 2024.

Authorities alleged the Houston-born alt-pop singer killed Rivas Hernandez to protect a career on the rise after she threatened to report their sexual relationship.

The teenager’s mother, who reported her missing three different times that same year, said her daughter was dating a guy she had never met, named David.

The pair were rumored to have shared matching ‘Sshhh’ tattoos on their right index fingers.

The autopsy report confirmed that Rivas Hernandez did have the tattoo. Photographs of Burke also show that he has the same markings on his finger.

Authorities described Rivas Hernandez as a ‘runaway’ at the time she was killed with a sharp object on or around April 23, 2025, when she was allegedly at Burke’s house in the Hollywood Hills.

Prosecutors allege Burke mutilated her body about two weeks later. 

The autopsy report states that an investigator found her dismembered arms and legs in a trash bag under her body in the trunk of the car.

D4vd, pronounced David, gained popularity among Gen Z fans for his blend of indie rock, R&B and lo-fi pop. He went viral on TikTok in 2022 and landed a record deal.

His popularity led to collaborations with stars such as SZA and Kali Uchis. 

When the teenager’s body was discovered, Burke had been on a tour in support of his first full-length album. The tour was later canceled. 

The singer is expected to return to court on April 29. 

Us Weekly, the celebrity magazine, is reportedly slashing nearly half of its workforce and closing its New York office, signaling a challenging period for the former tabloid giant amidst the ongoing struggles in the publishing industry.

On Monday, employees were informed of significant layoffs affecting nearly half of the magazine’s staff of over 50. According to the Status newsletter, management attributed these cuts to a disappointing first-quarter performance.

The layoffs have impacted several departments, including the complete social media team and the Spanish-language division, as reported by Status.

Additionally, owner McClatchy is closing the New York headquarters, transitioning the team to fully remote work starting May 1, as executives seek to stabilize the magazine’s operations, insiders revealed to the newsletter.

These drastic measures highlight a dramatic shift for a publication that once reigned supreme in supermarket checkout aisles with its vibrant celebrity gossip and eye-catching covers.

Founded in 1977, the magazine built its business on print circulation and ad dollars tied to its mass-market reach — a model that has since collapsed under the weight of digital disruption.

As audiences migrated to social media for real-time entertainment news, advertisers followed, draining revenue from legacy print outlets and leaving titles like Us Weekly struggling to adapt.

“The business is totally shot,” one former magazine editor told Status. “And there’s a lack of effort to adapt for the digital space in a relevant way.”

The layoffs come just months after Condé Nast rocked the industry with cost-cutting moves, including shutting down SELF as a standalone brand and trimming staff at Glamour and other titles.
