Meghan Eyes Charity Work Comeback Amid Security Concerns

0

Meghan Markle is considering a renewed focus on charitable work once Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are fully settled, as the Sussexes are said to be “excited about being back” in Britain.

The Duchess of Sussex, 45, and Prince Harry, 41, are understood to still be settling in and recovering from jet lag after leaving their Montecito home in California more than ten days ago.

According to reports, the couple have been keeping a low profile while shopping for school essentials, including uniforms and pencil cases, ahead of their children starting classes next week.

But the daily school run is reportedly the issue causing the greatest anxiety for Harry and Meghan, with sources claiming it presents the most significant security risks.

The Duke of Sussex is also said to have privately appealed to Shabana Mahmood for clarity over whether taxpayer-funded protection will be provided for his family.

Meanwhile, Meghan is thought to be eyeing up a return to charity work once Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, have settled in.

A source close to the duchess said ‘she wants to pick up with a lot of people’. It is understood to include Smart Works – a charity that supports unemployed and vulnerable women looking for jobs – with Meghan wanting to rekindle her public support.

She held four patronages after she wed Harry in 2018, but Smart Works was the only one she continued to support after she stopped working as a royal.

She is expected to be photographed and publicised working with the charities. The duchess and Harry are considering creating a ‘fair’ structure for any media coverage after withdrawing from the royal rota system following their self-imposed exile in 2020.

‘She is thinking about plans for how she can get more involved and support the causes she was supporting and was passionate about again, and new causes too,’ the source told The Sunday Times

Harry is expected to appear in a string of engagements this month for his patronages and organisations he supports. They include the annual WellChild Awards, the Invictus Games, and Imperial College’s Centre for Blast Injury Studies.

In 2019, Meghan launched the Smartset capsule collection to benefit Smart Works in a collaboration with fashion outlets Jigsaw, John Lewis, and Marks & Spencer.

At the launch on the roof garden of John Lewis in London, she said: ‘This is the kind of work that I’ve been doing for a really long time, and to be able to do it here in my new home in the UK means quite a bit to me.

‘It’s also the same kind of work that my husband and I will continue doing. Really strong, community-based projects and this is something we’ll be excited to share more about next year when we launch Sussex Royal.’

She added: ‘As women, it is 100 per cent our responsibility, I think, to support and uplift each other.

‘To champion each other so we aim to succeed, to not set each other up for failure but instead to really be there rallying round each other and say “I want to help you”.’

Friends have told The Sunday Times that Harry and Meghan are ‘excited about being back and everything that’s to come’.

But it is the school run that is the biggest area of concern for the couple, with a decision yet to be made on whether they would get taxpayer-funded security.

Scott Hamer, who worked in the Metropolitan Police’s royalty and specialist protection unit for 14 years until 2022, told The Telegraph the school run is ‘really, really difficult’.

He said: ‘The whole point of protection is to keep the diary as tight as possible, to ensure people who might want to do bad things do not have the opportunity to do so.

Harry, Meghan and their children are thought to have landed back in Britain in a private jet ten days ago

‘With the school run, you can vary the route as much as you like but the start and end point will almost always be the same.’

A review of Harry’s security was apparently carried out on the orders of the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec) at the end of July by its risk management board (RMB).

However, the board is thought to have been unaware that he was planning a permanent move back to the UK when it considered its decision.

Harry wrote to the Home Secretary in mid-August to give formal notice of his family’s return to Britain, according to The Telegraph. He is still waiting to be told of RMB’s conclusions.

Original estimates of £5million-plus for armed police protection for the family when they were in the UK could therefore skyrocket if the Home Office agrees to fund his security and he remains in Britain with his family full-time.

The review followed a lengthy tussle over whether Harry was eligible as a non-working member of the Royal Family for taxpayer-funded support following his failed legal battle against the Government last year.

At the time, the Court of Appeal declared that a grievance did not equate to a valid legal argument.

After he lost the case, he blamed an ‘establishment stitch-up’, but continued to battle for a fresh RMB.

The Sussexes’ arrival comes amid fervent speculation over Meghan’s rumoured return to acting several years after she stepped away to focus on royal life.

Conflicting reports say she may or may not have a role lined up for the third series of Netflix’s The Gentlemen, the high-octane gangster drama spin-off of Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film.

Asked about the rumours at the Edinburgh TV Festival last week, Netflix’s UK head of scripted series Manda Levin would only say: ‘All bets are off’.

Dave Portnoy Fires Back at Michigan Critics After Controversial Win, Tells Haters to Look in the Mirror

    0

Dave Portnoy wasted little time firing back at critics Saturday night after Michigan pulled off what he called one of the “greatest finishes in the history of college football.”

The Wolverines opened their season with a dramatic 13-12 win over Western Michigan, a result that hinged on officials putting one final second back on the clock after a defender touched the ball with one second showing.

That ruling gave Bryce Underwood another shot at a last-gasp Hail Mary, and he delivered, finding JJ Buchanan for a 47-yard touchdown catch that sealed the victory.

Portnoy, one of Michigan’s most vocal celebrity supporters, jumped on X after the game to defend the officiating decision and push back against social media claims that the Wolverines had benefited from cheating.

“I’ve had a couple minutes to calm down,” Portnoy said, before describing the finish as one that would land “in the annals” of college football history. He praised Western Michigan’s effort, saying the “kids from Kalamazoo played their hearts out,” but insisted Michigan’s final play was legitimate. “Every time Michigan wins,” he said, “doesn’t matter if it’s a National Championship, when you go undefeated, or a masterpiece like what we just saw… all the jealousy, all the haters… ‘Oh, they cheated.’ We didn’t cheat. It was a second clear as day.”

Dave Portnoy calls out Michigan haters following controversial win over Western Michigan on Saturday night. X @stoolpresidente

“…Sometimes when the other team beats you, whether, again, National Championship, one of the great games that Hail Mary, you take your cap and you dump.
You see, you know what? You beat us fair and square. It was a hell of a game, and you be a sportsman about it. But all over social media now, every, every Tom, Dick and Harry has a voice, and chirp, chirp, chirp. And all the people who wish they could wear their winged helmet. All the people who wish they had a National Championship. All the people who wish you can win your opening game of the season in the Kyle Winningham era like that, in a historic fashion, cry and moan and bitch, and try to take it away from these kids.

“I was gonna congratulate Western Michigan. If you played hard, you beat us fair and square. When we turn the table, suddenly, when we pull the magic, the rabbit out of the hat, everyone cries and is disgusting.”

Portnoy went on to say the “crying, pouting and moaning” that he believes follows Michigan’s victories is getting “out of control.”

“So, for all the haters, look in the mirror. It’s not our fault you’re not us, ok?” he added.

The Big Ten conference went on to release a late night statement around the play clock decision that also included the video reviewed by replay officials and audio of them discussing the call.

“Following video review, it was determined Western Michigan’s #18 started his jump from an established out of bounds position (left foot) and made contact with the ball with one second remaining on the clock,” the statement read. “As shown in the provided video of what was viewed during the replay process, a side-by-side view of the play and the game clock, using a direct shot of the game clock in the stadium, was used to determine the final ruling.”

Portnoy also later shared a hawkeye view of the first long ball attempt by Michigan before they were awarded the extra second on the clock.

“Its pretty indisputable the refs made the right call. Sorry to disappoint the haters. I know you want Michigan to lose so bad it’s like acid on your tongue,” he wrote.

Michigan began their Kyle Wittingham era 1-0 and moves on to face Oklahoma on Saturday, Sept. 12.

A new week means Yellowstone fans are once again checking for updates on Taylor Sheridan’s popular spin-off, Dutton Ranch, and when the series might return with fresh episodes.

Dutton Ranch Season 1 finale spoilers ahead.

It has been nearly two months since Dutton Ranch Episode 9, “El Padrino,” left viewers with a major cliffhanger: Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) discovered that their son Carter (Finn Little) had been abducted by the cartel. Elsewhere, Beulah (Annette Bening) and Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) were reeling from the shocking death of Rob-Will (Jai Courtney), while Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba) faced his own turmoil as his father, Mariano (Raoul Max Trujillo), returned to Rio Paloma, Texas.

With anticipation for more Dutton family drama running high, Dutton Ranch viewers have plenty of unanswered questions. Who killed Rob-Will? Is Everett’s (Ed Harris) wife really still alive? Should fans be worried about Miguel (Berto Colón)? And, perhaps most urgently, could Dutton Ranch and Marshals stage a crossover episode to rescue Carter and Tate (Brecken Merrill)? Those mysteries come right after the biggest question on every fan’s mind: Will there be a Season 2 of Dutton Ranch? And if the answer is yes, when will Dutton Ranch return with new episodes?

Wondering whether Dutton Ranch is new this weekend? Looking for Dutton Ranch Season 1, Episode 10? Assuming production sticks to the predicted timeline, here’s hoping Dutton Ranch Season 2 will premiere in 2027. Stay tuned for more updates!

Is Rip Leaving Dutton Ranch? Is Cole Hauser Leaving Dutton Ranch?

This is a popular question from Dutton Ranch fans — especially after recent feud escalation rumors between Hauser and Sheridan — and though the two have a long history, as far as we know, Rip isn’t leaving Dutton Ranch, nor is Cole Hauser! The Yellowstone spin-off was specifically written to continue Beth, Rip, and Carter’s stories — plus, Hauser is an EP on the series. So we don’t expect to say goodbye to Beth’s partner in crime any time soon.

Who Is Dutton Ranch‘s New Showrunner?

‘Some moments I feel like I’m going to wake up from the worst nightmare, and then I remember my boys aren’t coming home…

‘There are no words for the pain we are feeling right now, and I’m sorry if I haven’t replied. I just don’t have it in me at the moment…

‘But please know that every message, every kind word and every bit of love means more to me and Aaron than you will ever know. Thank you for loving our beautiful George and Marley with us…

‘We are just trying to take each minute, each hour and each day as it comes. Thank you for understanding.’

In her original post, Holly said Georgie passed away on Thursday at 1pm, with Marley passing at 5am the following day. They both died in the arms of their parents, Holly and her partner Aaron Summers.

In a devastating announcement on Instagram, Holly wrote: ‘My beautiful boys, Georgie & Marley. It has been the hardest, most heartbreaking, yet most magical 9 days of our lives.

‘At 1pm on 03/09/2026, our darling Georgie peacefully passed away. Then, at 5am on 04/09/2026, his beautiful brother Marley followed him.’

‘My boys both took their final breaths in the arms of me and their daddy. There is no greater privilege, and no greater pain, than holding your children as they leave this world.

‘They gave us the most precious week of our lives. A week I would live over and over again, just to have those moments with them. To hold them. To look at them. To love them. To be their mummy and daddy.

Iranian Footballers Who Defected to Australia Speak Out for First Time

    0

Two Iranian footballers who fled to Australia after refusing to sing their nation’s anthem have opened up about the new lives they are building far from home.

Atefeh Ramezanisadeh and Fatemeh Pasandideh, known as Ati and Pasand, were recently granted Australian citizenship during a private ceremony attended by Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke.

The pair were members of the Iranian women’s soccer team that staged a quiet act of defiance against the country’s authoritarian leadership, standing silently during the national anthem before a match against South Korea at Gold Coast Stadium on March 2.

Their protest came amid a brutal crackdown in Iran, where authorities have been accused of killing tens of thousands of demonstrators, and as tensions escalated involving the United States and Israel.

In the aftermath, seven players initially sought asylum in Australia after an Iranian public broadcaster branded them “wartime traitors”.

But continued pressure from Iran saw all but Ati and Pasand return to the Middle East.

The women on Sunday told 60 Minutes they haven’t contacted the team, or family members in Iran, for fear of reprisal.

‘For security reasons over these past 6 months, we decided not to talk because I don’t want to put their lives in danger,’ Pasand said.

Pasand has also lost contact with her father and brothers, who remain in Iran.

‘Since I made this decision, I have never been in contact with them but I’ve heard that they are okay,’ she said.

‘I try to get updates through people around them but I hope change happens in Iran so I can see them again.’

When pressed on whether she believed turmoil would end in Iran, Pasand said: ‘The only thing I believe is that brutality will never last forever.’

Just six months on from the devastating decision, the women are working to create new lives in Australia.

Pasand shared she watches popular children’s cartoon Bluey to learn Australian slang while Ati recently earned her Australian driver’s licence.

Both women play for Brisbane-based soccer club Wynnum Wolves but hope to return to professional teams.

It was through the team that they met their ‘second father’, club president Rabieh Krayem.

Mr Krayem had to pause his interview and wipe his tears when the 60 Minutes team told him that Ati referred to him as a father figure.

‘I’m crying now. You know, I can understand missing her father and to be compared to someone’s father – that’s a lot to take on,’ he said.

‘If I can make her life a little bit easier, make both their lives easier, that’s all I need.’

Burke on Sunday shared how difficult it was to reach out to the Iranian team following their protest.

Despite being on Australian soil, the women were kept under close guard by Iranian minders at all hours.

It was only six days after the women refused to sing the anthem that Australian authorities were able to contact them on March 8, immediately after their final match against the Philippines.

‘There were the tiniest interactions with some of our officials where we just said, ‘If you want to seek protection from Australia, we’re open to have that conversation with you’, and the seed was planted,’ Burke said.

Immigration officials were able to further help the women through a secret midnight meeting in the foyer of their Gold Coast hotel.

‘We were under so much stress. We didn’t know if we were doing the right thing. We were terrified and anxious – it was a mix of feelings,’ Ati said.

‘And the night we made the decision, none of us slept until 5am.’

Now they have citizenship, the women finally feel ‘safe’.

‘It meant everything. Getting citizenship allow us to breathe and focus on our future,’ Ati said.

‘It gave us a feeling of safety. It was a really wonderful thing to happen.’

Pasand added: ‘I am so deeply grateful to be here. It feels like my home here. Iran remains in my heart but I truly love Australia.

‘I want to be a useful person for Australia and be the best version of myself.’

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton Mourn Loss of Beloved 18-Year-Old Dog Betty

Gwen Stefani is grieving the loss of Betty, the beloved dog she shared with husband Blake Shelton, after 18 years together.

“It’s with the heaviest hearts that we share our sweet betty has gone to heaven 💔🕊️🐾 she made us all smile for 18 years,” the No Doubt singer, 56, wrote on Instagram on Saturday, September 5.

Stefani’s tribute featured a musical montage of the Rottweiler mix’s most touching moments with Shelton, 50, as well as Stefani and her children, Zuma, Apollo and Kingston. The video was set to Stefani and Shelton’s duet “Nobody But You,” a fitting choice since Betty made a memorable appearance in the song’s music video.

“[Betty] made us all smile for 18 years… we’re going to miss her forever. Thank u betty for all the love + joy u brought into our lives,” Stefani added in the emotional post.

Fans quickly filled the comments with condolences, offering support and kind messages as Stefani and her family said goodbye to their longtime companion.

“Omg Im so sorry to hear about Betty…it’s hard losing a pet. Wow 18 years..she lived her best years! My prayers are with y’all. Love y’all. ❤️Thanks for sharing this with us,” one follower wrote.

Another fan shared their own story of losing a pet, writing, “My heart breaks for you. I recently went through this with my girl of 13 years. Thinking of you and sending prayers.”

“We all feel like we know Betty from all the videos and pictures. What a great family, dog and friend that Betty was. Till you all meet again RIP Betty,” a third follower replied.

Betty was originally Shelton’s dog before he got together with fellow Voice coach Stefani. Speaking to CMT in 2020, the “Let Him in Anyway” singer revealed that Betty quickly took a liking to Stefani.

“The day he showed up to our home, he was hardly alive + so sick,” Stefani explained in a video at the time. “But with a lot of love + nurturing, he became a healthy kitten.”

She added, “We’re so grateful that he’s a part of our family.”

Man Killed Cousin at Dinner Over Hot Enchiladas, Police Say

    0

Inset: Ervin Gutierrez (Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office). Background: Copper Hills Apartments on Spanish Bit Street Northeast in Albuquerque, New Mexico (Google Maps).

A New Mexico man is accused of fatally shooting his cousin after a dispute that allegedly began over the spiciness of the enchiladas they were eating, authorities said.

Ervin Gutierrez, 22, faces an open count of murder in connection with the death of 25-year-old Nathaniel Cavazos, the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office announced in a press release.

Gutierrez is currently being held without bond at the Albuquerque Metropolitan Detention Center.

Investigators said another cousin suggested taking the dogs for a walk in an effort to calm the situation, but the argument allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation between Gutierrez and Cavazos.

Cavazos tried to walk away from the fight, the Albuquerque Police Department said, but Gutierrez allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim several times.

Authorities responded, but Cavazos was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gutierrez turned himself in, police said.

The defendant was booked into jail on Aug. 29 and he will remain in custody ahead of his trial. It is unclear when he is next scheduled to appear in court.
