Father Charged After Disturbing Threats Against Infant: ‘Going to Be a Dead Baby

In a tragic case out of Ohio, a 30-year-old man stands accused of ending his infant daughter’s life after allegedly subjecting her to prolonged abuse. Authorities claim that the father, Marcellaus Nekie Malone, suffocated the 4-month-old girl through excessively tight swaddling, preventing her from breathing.

Malone was apprehended last week following an indictment that charged him with multiple grave offenses, including murder, involuntary manslaughter, and domestic violence. He also faces seven charges of child endangerment related to the December 2025 incident, which authorities have detailed.

The case came to light on December 11, 2025, when officers from the Milford Township Police Department were dispatched to Malone’s apartment after receiving a distress call about an unresponsive infant. According to legal documents procured by Law&Crime, the situation quickly turned dire.

Upon their arrival, emergency responders initiated lifesaving procedures but, tragically, were unable to revive the young girl. She was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital, where she was declared deceased.

Investigations unearthed a disturbing pattern of escalating abuse reportedly spanning at least two months. Surveillance footage from Malone’s residence purportedly captured increasingly abusive interactions with his daughter. The evidence paints a harrowing picture of a father whose actions culminated in an unimaginable loss.

Investigators discovered a video of Malone making threats to the baby, telling her that she was “going to be a dead baby,” and that he was going to toss her on the bed if she “p—ed [him] off.” It was further revealed that as a punishment for crying, Malone would tightly swaddle the infant, including her head, to the point she could not breathe and would pass out. He told her that if she wanted to stop getting swaddled like that, she would have to stop crying. Not only would Malone cut off the baby’s breathing as a result of her fussing, but on at least one occasion, he punched the infant in the face for crying, causing a significant bruise.

The night of the child’s death, authorities said the infant had been “particularly fussy.” After the child’s mother swaddled her appropriately, Malone took the child and placed her in a bassinet in another room and “was the last person to see the baby alive.”

“The infant’s autopsy revealed no other reason for her death, but documented as a contributory cause of death, a ‘[r]eported history of occlusion of the nose and mouth by swaddling of the body and head,’” the release said.

Clermont County Prosecutor Mark Tekulve said the allegations against Malone are “unthinkable.”

“Children are our most precious gifts. It is unthinkable that this innocent child could have been treated in such a callous and evil manner,” he said. “This Office is dedicated to holding accountable those who would do such unspeakable violence to our county’s most vulnerable.”

Malone is currently being held in the Clermont County Jail on $1 million bond. He is scheduled to appear in court for his next hearing on April 27.

If convicted on the charges he currently faces, Malone faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, prosecutors said.

An unexpected chemical leak at a refinery in West Virginia on Wednesday morning resulted in the tragic loss of two lives and caused injuries to 21 individuals, prompting swift action from emergency responders to manage the situation.

Speaking at a press conference, Kanawha County Commission President Ben Salango detailed that the incident was reported around 9:31 a.m. at Catalyst Refiners, located in the Institute area. At the time, workers were engaged in shutting down refinery operations while carrying out cleaning procedures.

“Initial reports suggest that the facility was in the process of halting its operations, with activities related to cleaning and decontamination in progress,” explained Salango.

Authorities suspect that a chemical reaction during these procedures led to the release of hydrogen sulfide gas.

The chemical incident in Kanawha County, West Virginia, claimed two lives and injured more than a dozen people on Wednesday, as reported by WCHS.

“At this time, it is believed that a chemical reaction occurred during that cleaning process that created hydrogen sulfide,” Salango said.

Emergency response escalated quickly after the initial call. Metro 911 received a report of the release at 9:33 a.m., prompting the county to activate its Emergency Operations Center by 9:46 a.m., with first responders arriving on scene minutes later and a one-mile shelter-in-place order soon after.

“Emergency management, hazmat teams and first responders were immediately notified,” Salango said.

Sirens were activated shortly after, followed by a wireless emergency alert sent to residents in surrounding communities, including Institute, Dunbar, Nitro and St. Albans, while nearby roads — including Routes 25 and 60 — were temporarily shut down as a precaution.

Kanawha County Schools also initiated shelter-in-place protocols at several campuses even though they were outside the official zone, a decision Salango said was made “out of an abundance of caution.”

A total of 21 people were treated or transported for medical evaluation, including five EMS workers exposed while responding. One person remains in critical condition.

“I am sad to report that two individuals have passed away as a result of the incident,” Salango said.

Officials said hazmat crews remain at the scene conducting air monitoring as teams prepare to safely enter the facility. Federal authorities have also been notified through the National Response Center.

Gov. Patrick Morrisey said multiple state agencies are working alongside local officials to respond to the incident. The West Virginia Department of Homeland Security’s Emergency Management Division, the state Department of Health and Department of Environmental Protection are coordinating with Kanawha County emergency management, with personnel stationed at the county’s command center.

“Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our citizens,” Morrisey said. “We are working around the clock with local officials to ensure this incident is contained and that all necessary state resources are on the ground to protect the community.”

State officials said a number of people are being treated at local hospitals and urged residents to continue following safety guidance issued by Kanawha County.

Australia’s gas export taxation is under the microscope as experts question whether the nation is truly benefiting from its liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.

Recent findings from the Australia Institute indicate that Japan’s government has earned more revenue by taxing its imports of Australian LNG than Australia has from the gas it exports.

During an interview on ABC Radio on Tuesday, Richard Denniss, co-CEO of the Australia Institute, raised concerns about why Australia seems to be handing over so much of its gas resources to the industry without adequate returns.

Denniss suggested that Japan takes advantage of Australian LNG for financial gain while ensuring it safeguards the interests of its taxpayers, a strategy he implies Australia could learn from.

Australia is responsible for supplying approximately 40 percent of Japan’s LNG imports.

“We’re the mugs here, we get literally zero in royalties or PRRT on more than half the gas we export, and countries like Japan are making out like bandits,” Denniss said.

The report said that over five years, Japan raised $8.9 billion from gas imports, compared with $7 billion from Australia’s Petroleum Resource Rent Tax (PRRT).

The PRRT was introduced in 1988 and is designed to capture a share of profits from oil extraction. It is a 40 per tax on the extraction of natural resources: gas, petroleum and condensate.

A different report, released last May by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), raised concerns similar to those of the Australia Institute. It also stated that the Australian LNG bought by Japan was also being resold at a higher profit.

Revenue ‘not flowing’ into Australian companies

The report found that more than two-thirds of Australian LNG that Japan had resold ended up in Taiwan and South Korea. Both countries are considered to be high-value markets for Australian gas producers.

Josh Runciman, lead analyst for Australian gas at the IEEFA, told SBS News that the institute estimated the revenue of LNG resales could have been between $11 and $14 billion, and that Japanese companies were most likely able to make a profit.

“That potentially is a billion dollars of revenue that’s not flowing into the Australian company and therefore is not being taxed here in Australia,” Runciman said.

While resales of LNG are of concern, Runciman said that Japan should still be recognised as an important trading partner, as companies have made large investments in Australian LNG supply.

“The debate about Australia’s energy supply to Japan has really been about Japan’s energy security versus our own energy security.”

Runciman said there was no suggestion that Australia should stop exporting LNG to Japan, but argued that it would be reasonable for the country to implement policies that would ensure its own energy security.

Focus turns to domestic energy

In an attempt to investigate the tax treatment of Australian oil and gas resources, the Senate has established a Select Committee on the Taxation of Gas Resources. During the Senate hearings, proposals relating to a 25 per cent gas export tax will be presented, and it will examine the effectiveness of Australia’s Petroleum Resource Rent Tax (PRRT).

At the first hearing on Tuesday, former Treasury secretary Ken Henry said the Australian government’s existing gas revenue regime is insufficient.

While Runciman acknowledges the argument for tax reform, he said that there is also a need for a reservation policy to ensure that gas is supplied domestically when needed.

The IEEFA has referenced gas shortfalls predicted by the Australian Energy Market Operator in the next five to six years in Australia.

A reservation policy would require LNG exporters to supply gas domestically before they meet their export commitments. In Western Australia, a reservation policy has been implemented for several years.

In December 2025, a joint review between the Department of Industry, Science and Resources and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water assessed current gas market policies and regulations, which resulted in the Australian government agreeing to develop a prospective gas reservation policy to secure domestic supply while still supporting trade LNG.

“It’s crucial they get that right. If they don’t, we’re not likely to see the benefits domestically from additional gas supply,” Runciman said.

“If they do get it right, that would likely address our energy security issues, at least with respect to gas, and would probably put downward pressure on gas prices and this is important because gas flows through to so many parts of our economy [such as] fertiliser and electricity prices.

“That would also then have an influence on household energy bills, industrial energy bills, inflation more broadly, and therefore to some extent, potentially on your mortgage rate as well.”

Increased calls for a tax on gas

Independent senator David Pocock has campaigned for a 25 per cent tax on gas exports and has raised more than $94,000 to fund billboards in favour of the tax.

The proposal aligns with the recent analysis from the Australia Institute that a levy on gas exports could generate $17 billion in public revenue per year.

However, the proposal has drawn strong criticism from the gas industry.

Peak industry body Australian Energy Producers (AEP), which represents active oil and gas explorers and producers in the country, argued that the 25 per cent export tax could undermine investment and energy security.

Australian AEP Samantha McCulloch told SBS News in a statement that the Australia Institute’s reporting “cannot be taken seriously.”

“It is more spin and misleading reporting from an organisation that wants to tax the oil and gas industry out of Australia,” McCulloch said.

McCulloch said that the Australian oil and gas industry is Australia’s second-largest corporate taxpayer and paid $21.9 billion in taxes and royalties last year alone.

“In the middle of a global energy crisis, Australia cannot afford policies that will stop investment in new oil and gas projects, undermine energy trade relationships and put the country’s energy security at risk,” she said.

A proposed 25 per cent gas tax would increase the amount LNG producers pay by applying an additional levy to export revenue, which may reduce the share of earnings they retain.

Unlike the PRRT, which is applied once a production licence is in force and levied on the economic rent generated from a project, a flat tax would be an immediate obligation, meaning companies have to pay earlier in the project cycle.

Australian Disney+ subscribers are set to pay more for their streaming plans for the second time in less than 15 months.

The widely-used streaming service recently informed its customers via email about an increase in subscription prices. The standard monthly subscription is set to rise over 12 percent, going from $15.99 to $17.99 for new subscribers. Existing customers will see this change reflected in their next billing cycle.

For those on an annual plan, the standard subscription cost will jump by $20, adjusting from $159.99 to $179.99. Meanwhile, premium monthly plans will increase from $20.99 to $24.99, while annual subscribers will face a $30 hike, bringing the yearly total to $249.99.

This marks the second time in just over a year that the platform has raised prices for Australian users. Since last March, premium tier subscriptions have surged from $17.99 to the current $24.99, following a $4 increment to incorporate new content from ESPN and Hulu.

It’s the second price hike the platform has passed onto Aussie customers in around 14 months.

Premium tier have increased from $17.99 to $24.99 in that time, after the plan was lifted by $4 last March to accommodate fresh ESPN and Hulu inclusions.

The price change coincides with the launch of a new budget-conscious Standard with Ads plan priced at $9.99.

Customers on promotional offers will not incur the increase, Disney+ said.

An Apple TV account costs $15.99 a month and a Stan standard monthly subscription will set you back $17.

Disney+ is a streaming competitor to Stan, which is owned by Nine, the publisher of this website.

In a devastating turn of events, a father who had recently been lauded by his young son in a touching ‘father of the year’ essay tragically ended both their lives at an airport in Nevada.

Giovanni Perez, aged 37, fatally shot his 11-year-old son, Callan, before turning the gun on himself at Elko Regional Airport earlier this month. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning.

The father and son duo had been on a journey together when their rental car unexpectedly broke down near Winnemucca. This led to them being towed to Elko, where they intended to secure a replacement vehicle.

According to authorities, the tragedy unfolded after Perez and Callan entered an airport restroom twice. During their second visit, Perez took the heartbreaking step of shooting his son. The Elko Police Department, alerted by reports of an active shooter at the airport on April 13, confirmed that Perez then exited the restroom and ended his own life near a ticket counter.

The horrific incident has cast a shadow over what was once a narrative of love and admiration, highlighting the complexities and unpredictability of human actions.

Callan was taken to the North Eastern Nevada Regional Hospital but did not survive.

He had finished in third place in a father of the year essay contest organized by the Merced County Office of Education in California last June.

The essays were meant to reflect what each person’s parent meant to them and how they had helped shape their lives.

A bomb squad was also called to Elko airport to process the family’s vehicle for explosive devices.

No explosives were found inside the car.

A GoFundMe started to raise money for Callan’s funeral and family said he was ‘taken from us at the hands of someone who was supposed to protect him.’

‘Callan was so much more than this tragedy,’ the fundraiser read. ‘He was incredibly smart, funny, and kind – wise beyond his years.’

The fundraiser added that Callan ‘deserved so much more life, so many more laughs, and a future that was stolen far too soon.’

As of Wednesday morning, it had raised about $12,000 of an initial $13,000 goal.

The GoFundMe was started for a relative of Callan named Jil Chiesa, who wrote last Saturday on Facebook that she was ‘receiving and holding on tightly to anything positive right now.’

She shared that Callan’s fourth-grade teacher told her that a Redwood tree named after the boy would be planted at the school.

Callan’s friends had also named a classroom pet guinea pig after him, according to Chiesa.

‘Sweet Callan would be thrilled,’ she wrote. ‘Our sweet angel is smiling down, I just know it.’

On Wednesday afternoon, Elko police told the Daily Mail that it was ‘still following up on where both Perez and Callan were living at the time of their deaths.’

A spokesman confirmed that father and son had ‘ties’ to Merced, California, and told the Daily Mail that a missing person’s report had been filed out of Clovis last December.

No further details were provided about that report but they were found a month later in Ogden, Utah.

‘Ogden was the last place we believe they were living, but we are trying to follow up on that,’ a spokesman for Elko police told the Daily Mail.

Last Thursday, an update from the force said Perez claimed he was suffering from post–traumatic stress disorder ‘due to his time in the military.’

‘We are investigating what Giovanni did in the military,’ police said in a statement.

Perez was in a custody battle with Callan’s maternal grandparents, according to law enforcement.

He was ‘attempting to keep Callan from both the maternal grandparents and his own family,’ police said.

Perez and Callan were traveling to the Reno area ‘for some unknown reason’ when the murder–suicide happened, according to police.

Their statement added: ‘We still do not have a motive for this horrific incident and may never know why Callan’s life was taken.’

He added that Perez and Callan would receive military honors and a ‘full military send off.’

‘Giovanni provided well for all his sons, including full university funding,’ Frank added. ‘His battle with mental illness does not reflect on the great father and son he was.’

Callan’s mother, who was not identified by name, told KUTV that she had been separated from her son for multiple years but stayed in touch over the phone.

She had been working to regain custody of Callan, according to the outlet.

The mother added that Perez had been served in the US Army for about four years as a cook and had been deployed to Iraq.

Open Heaven 23 April 2026 MESSAGE

Today’s memory verse shows that God’s visitation brings life and preservation. When God visits a fellow, things begin to change positively in his or her life. His visitation always leaves a lasting mark in the lives of those He visits.

In today’s Bible reading, God told Samuel to go to Jesse’s house to anoint the next king. When he got there, Jesse presented all his sons to him, except David. This shows the extent to which David was disregarded by his own family. However, the Almighty God had arranged a divine visitation for David while he was busy looking after his father’s sheep. God instructed Samuel to anoint him in the presence of his family members, and from that day on, things began to change positively in his life.

And, behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. – Genesis 28:13-14

In the Scripture above, the Almighty God visited Jacob, and from that day on, the blessings of the Lord became evident in his life. He became prosperous and continued to find favour in the sight of God and man.

When God visited Sarah, she laughed for joy, and those who heard her story rejoiced with her (Genesis 21:1-6). God also visited Hannah, and her years of barrenness and sorrow vanished (1 Samuel 1:19-20). Likewise, when He visited Joseph, his years of suffering, slavery, and hardship vanished overnight; he woke up as a prisoner but ended the day as Pharaoh’s second-in-command (Genesis 41:14, 41-44). The day God visited the man at the pool of Bethesda was the day he walked. Before then, he had been paralysed for 38 years (John 5:1-9).

Beloved, my Daddy specialises in making the impossible possible. If you are stuck in what seems like a hopeless situation, cry out to Him today and ask for a divine visitation. Inasmuch as you are His child, He will heed your cry and cause a positive turnaround in your life. I pray that God will visit you today, and every impossibility in your life will become possible, in Jesus’ name.

6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

7 But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

“Godliness”, said James Drummond Burns, the Presbyterian minister and poet, “is the knowledge of God in the mind; the grace of God in the soul; the love of God in the heart; and the obedience of God in the life.”

Our text establishes that godliness is profitable. It is not limited to the mood or situation around the godly. Equipped by God in all situations and under all conditions, the godly pleases God. The challenges may be overwhelming, yet the godly must hold on to God. He will abundantly reward His own in due season if they faint not. Apostle Paul, the writer of this epistle, also highlights the limitations of bodily exercise. The entertainment industry exalts physical exercises and pleasure above ministerial discipline, to the extent that pastoral consecration is not given a place. Discipline, with consecration, is key to the satisfactory execution of our calling and duties. Despite Job’s unfavorable situations, he maintained his integrity. He kept his faith and refused to curse God even when his wife suggested that he do so. For a young person, ministerial work becomes arduous when faced with ungodly and unfriendly opposers of the gospel who perceive gospel ministry as a means to make fast money. In a challenging world, where virtue and godliness are undesirable, the preacher must purpose in his heart not to be defiled or corrupted by the god of this world. Regrettably, some ministers have been swept off in the rat race to make ends meet.

For Timothy to qualify and be distinguished as a good minister of Christ, he must be knowledgeable and able to teach the church under his leadership. Ministerial privileges are not for massaging ego, projecting self, or entertaining idle people with itching ears. It is a call to responsibility and accountability. The minister is responsible for ensuring the sheep are nourished with a spiritual balanced diet of God’s word, and shield them from every wind of doctrine. He is equally accountable to God. A day of reckoning comes when his work shall be tested by fire and rewarded accordingly. Beyond the light afflictions that may come our way as saints, God’s promises are sure and transcend the earthly realm. An eternal weight of glory awaits us in heaven if we continue faithfully to the end.

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life (John 6:63).

Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:

As a new creation, you don’t need another power or a special charge from outside. All the power you require is already in you. When you received the Holy Spirit, you received limitless, supernatural power to effect changes. This power, according to James 5:16 AMPC, is dynamic in its operation. What God wants is that you frequently release that power from within you.

Years ago, while preparing for a major camp meeting, I recall praying to the Lord for a fresh “turbo charge.” But the Lord spoke to my spirit and said, “What you need is the release of what you already have inside you.” Then, I asked, “Lord, how do I release it?” And He said, “It’s an act of your faith.” Immediately, I caught it.

That night, as I ministered the Word, I perceived the power of God flowing out of me like a river. Suddenly, a visible cloud, like smoke, rose from the concrete floor. This wasn’t the effect of an artificial smoke machine; the glory of God filled the place. People shouted as the cloud moved over them. The sick were healed everywhere in the arena. Glory to God!

Here’s the point: that power didn’t come from heaven into the room. It came from within me. The Lord Jesus said, “He that believeth on me…out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water” (John 7:38). He spoke of the Holy Spirit who would be given to those who believe in Him. The same Spirit is in you today.

The words that you speak are Spirit-filled words; they’re full of power. They carry life and produce healing, deliverance, and miracles. Don’t wait for something to come from outside. Release the power within you through faith-filled words. Speak life. Speak healing. Speak salvation. Let the rivers of living water within you flow and transform the lives of those around you.

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for your supernatural power at work in me; your grace and glory flow from within me to bless, heal, strengthen and lift others. I function in your wisdom and ability today, transforming lives everywhere, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Senators Propose ‘Hot Rotisserie Chicken Act’ to Expand Food Options for SNAP Recipients


WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Hill) – On Tuesday, a bipartisan coalition of Senators unveiled the “Hot Rotisserie Chicken Act,” aimed at expanding the use of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to include the purchase of rotisserie chicken.

The proposed legislation seeks to update the 2008 Food and Nutrition Act by redefining what qualifies as food to specifically incorporate “hot rotisserie chicken,” as outlined in a joint release from Senator John Fetterman’s (D-Pa.) office. The bill will not increase SNAP funding, alter eligibility criteria, or permit the purchase of all hot foods.

Under existing rules, SNAP benefits cannot be used to buy hot, prepared meals, limiting recipients to only cold but cooked rotisserie chicken.

“America’s most affordable and tasty option is Costco’s $4.99 rotisserie chicken,” Fetterman remarked in the statement. “It’s a favorite in my household, and I’m proud to work with Senator Justice to make it accessible to all. Utilizing SNAP funds in this way will help nourish families across the country who truly need it.”

Senators Jim Justice (R-W.Va.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), and Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) have joined Fetterman in support of this amendment.

“Allowing SNAP recipients to purchase hot rotisserie chicken is a simple, practical step to make the program work better for the people it serves,” Capito said in a similar statement. “For seniors, working families, and those without reliable access to cooking equipment, this is about convenience and dignity. With multiple states—including West Virginia—already requesting flexibility in this area, this bill brings SNAP in line with real-world needs while making smart, efficient use of taxpayer dollars.”

Justice said allowing SNAP recipients to buy hot rotisserie chicken is “as basic as you can get to help busy parents or grandparents put something as simple as this on the table to feed their families.”

“It’s plain common sense: a hot rotisserie chicken is a healthy, easy meal for busy families,” he wrote on the social platform X. “Folks on SNAP should be able to grab one on the go.”

The amendment is a companion to a farm bill sponsored by Rep. Rich Crawford (R-Ark.) that received bipartisan support. The aspect of the bill extending to allow the purchase of hot rotisserie chicken was withdrawn.

Crawford said in March that Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) submitted a waiver to extend the program to cover hot rotisserie chicken, according to a statement from the National Chicken Council.

“Hot rotisserie chicken is healthy, widely available, popular in grocery stores, and aligns with the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans promoting nutrient-dense protein,” Crawford said in the statement.
