Don Jazzy Weighs in on the Longevity of Modern Marriages with “Butter Ice Cream Cake” Analogy

Nigerian music mogul Don Jazzy has ignited a lively discussion across social media platforms with his humorous and insightful commentary on why modern marriages often fall short of the longevity seen in previous generations.

In a trending video shared widely online, the Mavin Records founder cleverly uses the tradition of wedding cakes to draw parallels between past and present-day relationships, delivering both amusement and food for thought.

Don Jazzy’s Unusual Marriage Theory

Speaking in a relaxed manner, Don Jazzy mused, “We were just contemplating why some marriages today don’t endure like those of our parents.”

He went on to illustrate that historically, wedding celebrations featured traditional fruit cakes, which were known for their long-lasting nature, symbolizing the enduring quality of marriages back then.

According to him, “Back in the days our parents… they used to make this fruit cake… they’ll leave the rest of the cake for like one year… and eat it in the one-year anniversary.”

He suggested that the durability of those cakes symbolised the endurance of marriages in earlier times.

Modern Cakes, Modern Relationships

Drawing a contrast with present-day practices, the music producer noted that many modern wedding cakes are made with butter and cream, which do not last long.

He said, “Now all those fruit cake that they used to put like alcohol… to make it last long… now you probably know this butter, butter ice cream cake… it doesn’t use to last.”

Don Jazzy jokingly linked this shift to shorter marriages, implying that what lasts longer may reflect deeper commitment and patience.

The Rise of Decorative Cakes

The entertainer also pointed out a growing trend where wedding cakes are largely decorative rather than functional.

He remarked, “Now some people don’t even make cake… they just design one big giant… and then put one small tiny part… where you can cut and share.”

He added humorously that much of the cake is sometimes covered with non-edible materials, saying, “Apparently the rest of the body of the big cake is a giant plastic.”

Humour with a Hint of Reflection

While Don Jazzy admitted his comments were not entirely serious, he ended on a light note, saying, “Maybe that is why your people’s marriage is not working… Maybe I’m high. I didn’t smoke, I just ate.”

Strategies to Combat Price Gouging Amid the Fuel Crisis

0

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has launched an investigation into suppliers serving remote and regional areas of the country following complaints about exorbitant fuel surcharges, some reportedly exceeding 70%. This examination comes amid increasing concerns about similar surcharges cropping up in urban areas, affecting cafes, restaurants, and travel companies as well.

Matt Grudnoff, a senior economist at the Australia Institute, highlighted the legal landscape surrounding these practices. In a conversation with SBS Examines, he stressed that it is against Australian law to deceive customers by falsely attributing price hikes solely to increased costs.

Interestingly, while misleading consumers is illegal, certain types of price gouging remain within the legal boundaries. “If a company notices the prevailing chatter about price hikes and decides to raise their prices without any actual increase in their costs, that action is entirely legal,” Grudnoff explained.

However, some other forms of price gouging are actually legal.

Most people don’t know that, but it is not illegal to price gouge.

Matt Grudnoff, senior economist, the Australia Institute

“If a firm sees that everybody’s talking about price increases and they decide on the back of that to increase their prices, even though their costs haven’t gone up, that’s perfectly legal,” Mr Grudnoff said.

Professor David Byrne, the Ritchie Chair of Economic Research at the University of Melbourne, said healthy competition is important to fight price gouging.

But he said this is a challenge in Australia.

“We have fewer firms supplying us. And so we see that in petrol. We see that in banking, supermarkets … these companies have market power,” he said.

When you only have a few players in a market, the lack of competition means you’ll get higher prices.

Professor David Byrne, the University of Melbourne

In this episode of SBS Examines, we look at price gouging and ask: how can Australians be prepared for future fuel price shocks?

Open Heaven 20 April 2026 – Reversing Hopelessness

Open Heaven 20 April 2026 Monday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Reversing Hopelessness

Open Heaven 20 April 2026 TOPIC – Reversing Hopelessness

MEMORISE: But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. – Psalm 3:3 (KJV)

READ: John 5:2-9 (KJV)

2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.

3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.

6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?

7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Kings 6-8

Open Heaven 20 April 2026 MESSAGE

In today’s Bible reading, a certain man, who had suffered from an infirmity for 38 years, had an encounter with Jesus. From his response to Jesus Christ’s question, it was clear that he had lost all hope, but Jesus reversed his hopelessness when He commanded him to take up his bed and walk. In an instant, the 38-year infirmity disappeared, and his hopelessness vanished. I pray for you today that the Almighty God, who can reverse hopeless situations, will visit you today, and you shall receive a miracle, in Jesus’ name.

When God wants to turn a fellow whom the world seems to have forsaken into a living testimony, He will arrange a divine encounter for the fellow. He will work it out in such a way that everyone around him or her will know that He is definitely at work.

Several years ago, I was travelling to Ilesha, a town in South-West Nigeria. Along the way, I saw a car that seemed to have broken down. As I approached it, I saw that it had an RCCG sticker on it. On taking a closer look, I saw that the person standing beside the car was a church member whom I knew. I also saw that she was pregnant. I asked her, “What’s wrong with your car?” Immediately she saw me, she exclaimed, “Daddy! Is it really you I’m seeing? Oh God!” I asked her again, “Is there a problem with your car?” She replied, “Sir, don’t worry about the car. I have a bigger problem.” She then went on to tell me that the baby in her womb had not moved for the past six days, and the doctors had told her that they were going to evacuate the baby. After listening to her, I said, “In that case, I decree, baby, come back to life, in Jesus’ name.” Immediately, the baby started moving again. A few years ago, I visited one of our parishes in Europe, and that same baby whom the doctors wanted to evacuate from the woman’s womb was the one playing the drums.

Beloved, I want you to know that nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37). If you are currently in the midst of a situation that seems hopeless, I want you to put your trust in the One who makes rivers in the desert (Isaiah 43:19). He will bring you out of that hopeless situation and give you victory where defeat seemed certain, in Jesus’ name.

Open Heaven 20 April 2026 PRAYER POINT

Father, please turn every hopeless situation in my life around for good, in Jesus’ name.

Open Heaven 20 April 2026 HYMN 21 – My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less

1 My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

Chorus:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

2 When darkness seems to veils His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

3 His oath, His covenant, and blood,
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

4 When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

Brokers Warn: New Tax Reform Could Lead to Rising Rent Costs for Property Investors

0

Critics of the policies established during the Howard era argue that these measures have spurred a surge in property investment activity. As a result, housing prices have escalated, putting them out of reach for typical first-time homebuyers and continuing to favor the affluent.

Brokers say tax reform targeting investors will drive up prices for renters. (Getty)

Since delivering his inaugural speech in Parliament back in 2013, Chalmers has been focused on addressing intergenerational inequality. Any proposed changes to these policies would target this very issue.

However, the Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA) warns that pushing investors out of the market now could backfire, especially concerning rental prices.

“In various parts of Australia, we see 10 to 20 or more people vying for a single rental property due to the current shortage,” stated interim CEO Peter White. “Why would we want to further reduce that already limited supply?”

White further elaborated, “The idea that housing costs will drop to a level where individuals unable to currently afford a mortgage will suddenly find it feasible to enter the market is overly simplistic. It overlooks the multitude of factors involved in loan approval.”

Proponents of reform say removing perks for investors will dampen demand, and give first home-buyers a chance.

Matt Grudnoff, Senior Economist at The Australia Institute, believes tax concessions for property investors have skewed the market.

“The CGT discount is the biggest single incentive for investors,” Grudnoff said.

“By scrapping it, the federal government will advantage first home buyers, helping more Australians into a home of their own.”

Currently, the capital gains discount policy means that if you buy an asset such as a house, hold it for at least 12 months and then sell it, you only pay tax on half the profit (capital gain).

Before 1999, the actual capital gain was indexed to inflation.

Recent polling by the Australia Institute found 50 per cent of respondents agreed the government “should reduce tax concessions for property investors, such as the capital gains tax discount and negative gearing”.

The Greens want to see negative gearing phased out and property-related capital gains tax discounts and exemptions abolished.

The Coalition is firmly against any changes to CGT.

DCLM Daily Manna 20 April 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Created For God’s Glory

TOPIC: Created For God’s Glory (DCLM Daily Manna 20 April 2026)

KEY VERSE: Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him – Isaiah 43:7

TEXT: Isaiah 43:1-7 (KJV)

1 But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

3 For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.

4 Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.

5 Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;

6 I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth;

7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

The 1936 Summer Olympic Games in Berlin are unique in the history of global games. Adolf Hitler and his propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, had intended to use the sports to promote his Nazi party and showcase the supremacy of the Aryan (Caucasian) race in the world. Unfortunately, the Olympic star was Jesse Owens, an African American from the United States. He won four gold medals within an hour. Hitler left the stadium disappointed, and his plan of glorifying a race instead of God crumbled.

In our text, the Lord promised to redeem Israel because the nation was precious. He assured them of divine protection in danger and tribulation. The Lord told them not to entertain fear, promising to gather them from the ends of the earth. The central message is that Israel and all who are called by the name of the Lord exist to glorify God. What do we mean when we say man was created to glorify God? Does this imply that God wants to use us to advance His greatness? What proof must we show that man was created to glorify God? And how can we glorify God?

The purpose of the creation of man cannot be different from the reason God created the world. Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork”. Hence, Isaiah says we are created for the glory of God. The word glory relates to dignity, honour, praise and worship. God is not trying to use us by instructing us to glorify Him. Whatever we do, we cannot make God bigger than who He is. Since we are created in the image of God, our primary responsibility is to reflect the nature of God in whatever we do, including dressing, eating and drinking. We can also glorify God by praising Him with our lips, obeying His Word, praying in Jesus’ name, preaching the gospel, exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit, and showing faithfulness in persecution.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
We are created to show forth God’s praise and radiate His glory.

Euphoria Fans Outraged: Sydney Sweeney Faces Backlash Over Alleged On-Screen Degradation

0

Following a polarizing season three debut that sparked controversy over some of its more provocative content, “Euphoria” returned with its second episode on Sunday. The series, created by Sam Levinson and starring Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney, has been a major talking point since its comeback on HBO Max after a four-year break from the airwaves.

This season picks up five years after the characters’ high school days, offering a fresh perspective on their lives. Despite the anticipation, the latest episode, aptly named “America My Dream,” has left many viewers unsettled. Fans are particularly concerned about the portrayal of Sydney Sweeney’s character, Cassie, who seems to be caught in a cycle of being depicted in increasingly explicit and degrading scenarios.

The episode showcases Cassie engaging in bold photo shoots for her OnlyFans account. One of the most talked-about scenes features her provocatively posing with ice cream dripping down her bare chest, a continuation of themes from the previous episode where she dressed as a dog. These scenes have sparked debate over the portrayal of her character and the direction of the series.

In another striking sequence, Cassie dons only a backwards baseball cap while posing in a baseball-themed setting, carefully concealing her body with strategic arm placements. The storyline further pushes boundaries as she adopts an ‘adult baby’ persona, leaving audiences questioning the intent behind these creative choices.

In another daring shot, she is seen wearing nothing but a backwards baseball cap as she poses in a baseball-themed set, strategically using her arms to cover her chest and lower body. Later on she portrays an ‘adult baby’ with her legs up in the air.

‘Somebody save Sydney Sweeney,’ one fan wrote, as many others called the scenes a ‘humiliation ritual.’

‘Please god i cant keep seeing cassie degrade herself in the most embarrassing ways imaginable,’ someone else added.

‘Sydney girlllll say no to some stuff,’ another fan pleaded.

‘How is Sydney even agreeing to do this season of Euphoria?’ someone else questioned.

‘Why would sydney agree to doing allat… weird.’

‘Seated for sydney sweeney to be typecasted the rest of her career.’

The episode kicks off with Maddy (Alexa Demie) now working at a Hollywood talent agency and navigating the Covid pandemic.

She begins managing Katelyn (Anna Van Patten), and pushes her into the world of digital fetish content, including nearly nude photos and feet content. However her boss forces her to drop Katelyn, saying she is going to cheapen the brand.

Maddy then meets up with Cassie, who is seen having her housekeeper take provocative photos of her to post on her OnlyFans.

‘Cassie was exactly the kinda girl you’d dream of signing. Beautiful, but directionless. So desperate for attention she’s willing to humiliate herself,’ the viewers are told by the narrator.

Cassie looks starstruck as she sees her former best friend, who comes to meet her in a glamorous fur coat.

She tells Maddy that she should have asked for permission before dating her ex Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi), to whom she’s now engaged. Maddy then forgives her.

After a few drinks, Cassie reveals that she is looking for some help with her OnlyFans.

‘The market’s just oversaturated with a lot of girls like you,’ Maddy says.

‘How are all these girls making so much money when I’m way prettier than them?’ Cassie questions.

Maddy then questions some of her content. ‘Yeah, the doggie video? It’s fun and it’s campy, but it’s not sexy, and it’s not timeless.’

‘But it’s cute though,’ Cassie insists.

‘It just feels a little desperate,’ Maddy tells her. ‘It feels like you’re trying way too hard, instead of just being.’

After asking if Nate is okay with her doing nudes, Maddy finally decides to help Cassie out.

Meanwhile, Rue (Zendaya) finds herself under the thumb of strip club magnate Alamo Brown (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), and is tasked with helping him scrub any evidence of a fatal overdose involving a young woman named Tish.

The death occurred at Alamo’s party after Tish consumed a fentanyl-laced pill.

Because the bad pills came from Laurie (Martha Kelly), Alamo calls her up and demands that Rue work for him instead.

Since Rue was already muling drugs for Laurie to pay off her debt, Alamo takes over her contract as payback for the girl’s death.

Rue is then promoted to help with managing the Silver Slipper strip club.

She later hooks up with one of the strippers named Angel (Priscilla Delgado).

The episode ends with Jules inviting Rue to keep her company as she takes a bath.

The season three premiere left viewers horrified over ‘nasty’ scenes involving Zendaya swallowing bags of fentanyl and Sweeney engaging in fetish work.

Ahead of its premiere the third season was also torched with early reviews, with the show being labeled as an ‘unhinged disaster’ yet ‘pretty uneventful.’

It also held a 46% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes before the first episode became available on the streaming site.

Lauren Samer from the New York Post labeled the third season – which has a five-year time jump – as ‘Breaking Bad meets Looney Tunes.’

‘In the first two seasons, the show’s strength was how it dug into these characters’ lives. The plot got wild, but it was anchored by human drama.’

Samer added, ‘Now, as we find them as adults, it would be more compelling to see them struggle because of their flaws. Instead, many of them struggle because random criminal henchmen are after them.’

The BBC’s Caryn James gave the first three episodes two out of five stars.

James also wrote that ‘Euphoria has become a series with very little to say, none of it very audacious or compelling.

‘Based on the three episodes, of eight, that HBO made available in advance, it is a strained attempt to make the closed circle of friends it follows, now in their early 20s, somehow the same only different.’

The new season premiered under the cloud of the tragic untimely deaths of two major players in the cast, Dane and Angus Cloud.

Cloud starred on the teen drama as the drug dealer Fezco aka ‘Fez,’ who emerges as a voice of reason of sorts to the other characters.

The actor was just 25 years old when he died in July 2023 of a combined overdose of fentanyl, meth, cocaine and benzodiazepines.

Following the tragic passing of the actor, the show opted to explain his absence by revealing Fez is doing a lengthy stint in prison.

Season one of Euphoria initially premiered back in 2019, with the second season following three years later.

The eight-episode third season will roll out on a weekly basis, with the finale set to air on May 31.

Rhapsody Of Realities 20 April 2026: A Life-Giving Spirit

Rhapsody Of Realities 20 April 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): A Life-Giving Spirit

TOPIC: A Life-Giving Spirit (Rhapsody of Realities 20 April 2026)

And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit (1 Corinthians 15:45).

Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:

In 1 Corinthians 15, there’s a long discussion by Paul the Apostle where he draws differences between the natural and the spiritual, the terrestrial and the celestial, the first Adam and the second Adam. He said, “…The first man Adam was made a living soul….” That’s referring to Adam in the Garden of Eden. The Bible says God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and he became a living soul (Genesis 2:7).

But the Lord Jesus, the second and last Adam, is a life-giving Spirit, and you’re born after Him. Those who aren’t born again are born after the first Adam, the man of dust. They’re mere living souls, and that’s why they’re ruled by selfishness and driven by earthly desires.

But the Lord from heaven, whose icon we are and whose image we bear, is Life and the Life-giver. As He is, so are we (1 John 4:17). His very nature is to give and to dispense life. Therefore, being born after Him, you’re a life-giving spirit. You live by the law of the Spirit of life. You express His love, power and righteousness.

The Bible says, “The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven” (1 Corinthians 15:47). Then it declares further, “As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly” (1 Corinthians 15:48). This is a present reality; we’re like Him now. We’re heavenly men and women in the earth.

It helps you understand why the Lord Jesus said you’re not of this world (John 15:19). You hail from God (1 John 4:4); your origin is divine. Your words, like those of the Master, are spirit and life: “…the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). You dispense the presence and life of the Holy Spirit in words full of power. You’re not an earthling but a heavenly being. Blessed be God!

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for the revelation of my identity in Christ. I’m born after the last Adam, a life-giving spirit, full of grace and power. I dispense life to my world through words inspired by the Spirit. I’m conscious of my heavenly origin; therefore I manifest your righteousness, glory and love everywhere, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

1 John 4:17 (KJV) Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

1 Corinthians 15:47-48 (AMPC) The first man [was] from out of earth, made of dust (earthly-minded); the second Man [is] the Lord from out of heaven. Euphoria’ Season 3 Episode 2: What the Ending Means for Rue and Jules’ Relationship

From its debut episode, HBO’s Euphoria has captivated audiences with the intense and complex relationship between Rue (played by Zendaya) and Jules (portrayed by Hunter Schafer). Although their connection is fraught with dysfunction, the bond they share remains undeniably profound.

In the latest installment, Season 3 Episode 2, these two compelling characters cross paths once more after a prolonged separation, reigniting the intricate dynamics between them.

**Spoilers for Euphoria Season 3 Episode 2, currently available on HBO Max**

The episode concludes with Rue making her way to the lobby of a posh high-rise in downtown Los Angeles, just as Jules arrives home, impeccably dressed. Rue, with her usual nonchalance, compliments Jules on her revamped style. Jules has transitioned from her signature colorful hair and glittery makeup to sporting a chic designer wig and an elegant couture cocktail dress.

According to the official production notes for Euphoria Season 3, costume designer Natasha Newman-Thomas explains that Jules’s access to more resources has led her to explore luxury fashion. “She’s drawn to places like Balenciaga and Kiko Kostadinov,” she noted. “We were fortunate enough that both brands contributed wardrobe pieces for the show.”

Jules’s new hair and makeup look, however, hint at something darker afoot for the character. Makeup department head Doniella “Donni” Davy described the character as being in a “really grim place.”

Davy said, “She’s dating guys to make money, so her makeup needed to reflect that: moody with a darker color palette; a touch experimental and also a little dominatrix—all with a gloomy undertone.”

Meanwhile, Sam Levinson asked hair department head Kim Kimble to give the character long, long, long blonde hair. “She’s like a modern-day Rapunzel trapped up in the tower and letting down her tresses,” Kimble said.

Jules invites Rue up into that tower at the end of Euphoria Season 3 Episode 2 and the two catch up about the nostalgia you might feel for past romances, no matter how bad they actually were. When Rue is asked about where she is with regard to her addictions, she says, “I avoid things that destroy my life.” Jules then notes the irony of Rue visiting her.

Just when it seems that Jules has officially put Rue in the friend zone, the episode ends on a flirtatious note of hope. Jules is drawing a bath and Rue assumes she wants to be left alone. “You’re not going to keep me company?” Jules asks.

So have Jules and Rue rekindled their romance? Are they endgame? What’s going on with Euphoria‘s most epic on-and-off relationship?

Euphoria Season 3 Episode 2 Ending Explained: Are Rue and Jules Back Together?

Yes and no.

Jules definitely invites Rue to spend the night, but it’s not like they can be together-together. After all, Jules is now a Sugar Baby. She earns her living by dating rich older men. Signs of her current beau/benefactor can be seen all over her apartment. She’s not leaving that dude! (She can’t!)

In the trailer for Euphoria in the weeks ahead, we get a glimpse of how Jules got into this lifestyle. In one scene in particular, she can be seen on a date with a character played by True Blood‘s Sam Trammell. We’ll learn in the weeks ahead what that situation is like and more about Jules’s “Rapunzel”-esque life.

Rue, meanwhile, has her own commitments, in the form of her service to Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). Neither woman is totally free and this hookup carries more of a casual vibe than romantic reunion for keeps.

Time will tell if these two can finally be together forever or if they’re destined to stay apart.

New episodes of Euphoria Season 3 come out on Sundays at 9 PM ET on HBO and HBO Max.

Experience History Anew: Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride Reimagined with Daylight and Police Escort

0

BOSTON (AP) — The legendary ride of Paul Revere is scheduled for a reenactment on Monday, with a few contemporary twists: instead of midnight, the event will occur in daylight, accompanied by a police escort for both horse and rider.

Back on April 18, 1775, Revere, a silversmith and express rider, embarked on his famous journey to Lexington. His mission was to alert Revolutionary figures Samuel Adams and John Hancock about the British forces’ plan to arrest them. Afterward, he rode towards Concord to warn of imminent raids on military supplies.

Revere arrived in Lexington around midnight, closely followed by William Dawes, who traveled a separate path to deliver the same urgent news.

Their warnings mobilized local militiamen, armed and ready, to confront a significantly larger force of British soldiers on the Lexington Battle Green. This encounter resulted in the British being driven back to Boston, where they were besieged by militias for nearly a year, a period known as the Siege of Boston.

“The significance lies in meeting the British troops,” explained Nina Zannieri, the executive director of the Paul Revere Memorial Association, which manages The Paul Revere House. “It marked a pivotal moment. Had there been no resistance on the green, the British might have marched unchallenged. But instead, they faced opposition.”

The reenactor, dressed in Colonial costume and accompanied by another horseman, will roughly trace the route taken by Revere 251 years ago. The ride will start in Boston’s North End and head to Charlestown, Somerville, Medford and Arlington before finishing in Lexington — all communities where Revere alerted militias about British movements.

Some aspects of the historic night will not be part of the event, such as Revere taking a boat to Charlestown before starting his ride.

Nor will there be Revere’s brief detention by a British patrol on his way to Concord after leaving Lexington. Revere was ultimately let go without his horse after convincing the British that hundreds of patriots were waiting for them, and he returned to Lexington to see the end of the battle.

“It’s basically important that he leaves Boston. He rides. He’s alerting people. Other people are out,” Zannieri said. “He starts a chain reaction, and he accomplishes his mission even though he gets stopped and held. He’s lucky he wasn’t killed.”

While Revere dodged patrols and contended with rutted and muddy roads, his 21st-century counterpart will have it easy, traversing pavement the entire way and passing through a world of stoplights, car dealerships and bustling downtowns that Revere never could have imagined. The 2026 Boston Marathon takes place at the same time, though the routes will not overlap.

Michelle DiCarlo-Domey, who organizes the ride each year for the National Lancer, the state’s historic mounted cavalry unit, said thousands come out to see history come alive and show their patriotism. The National Lancer has been holding the Revere and Dawes ride for over 110 years.

“Whenever you can interact with the riders and the horses, it can help carry history on,” DiCarlo-Domey said. “Kids can relate to what they learn in school. And where else do you see two horses running down the street?”
