Tate Paul, the former spouse of Taylor Frankie Paul, has alleged that Taylor’s mother, Liann May, might be influencing their daughter, Indy, in the wake of Taylor’s arrest for domestic violence in 2023.

During a recorded police call on February 24, 2023, obtained by People magazine, Tate expressed concerns regarding Liann’s potential bias, stating, “Given that she’s Taylor’s mother, there’s an obvious conflict of interest.”

Tate went on to claim that Liann was “coaching” Indy and directing her to say certain things, suggesting a possible interference in the situation.

In another part of the conversation, Tate reported that Indy sustained a minor head injury during an altercation involving Taylor and her then-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, on February 17, 2023.

He described the injury as a small “goose egg” on her head but admitted he couldn’t document it with a photo due to its size and the fact it was hidden by her hair.

He also asked the police to contact him rather than Taylor’s mom regarding the investigation.

But the embattled “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” star’s mom, who shared a cryptic post to Instagram on Tuesday, reportedly told police that Indy wasn’t injured during Taylor and Mortensen’s domestic violence incident.

An officer with the Herriman City Police Department called Liann shortly after 3:15 a.m. on Feb. 18 to check on Indy after learning the then-3-year-old may have been hit by a metal stool during the fight, according to police bodycam footage obtained by TMZ Friday.

Liann told the officer that Taylor and Tate’s then-3-year-old daughter was asleep, but had “seemed fine” and didn’t appear to have any injuries.

A rep for Taylor didn’t immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

Taylor, 31, and Tate tied the knot in November 2016. They welcomed Indy, now 8, and son Ocean, 5, before splitting in 2022.

Although the Hulu star’s fight with Mortensen, 33, occurred three years ago, it received renewed attention earlier this month when TMZ released a video of the shocking fight online.

It showed a seemingly drunk Taylor and her then-boyfriend fighting inside her Utah home, and Indy appeared to get struck by a metal barstool Taylor had thrown at Mortensen during the Feb. 17, 2023, incident.

She later pleaded guilty to one felony count of aggravated assault, which will be reduced to a misdemeanor once she finishes her three-year probation.

Additional charges, including two felony counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child and one misdemeanor count each of child abuse and criminal mischief, were ultimately dismissed.

ABC, meanwhile, canceled Taylor’s season of “The Bachelorette” in the wake of the leaked video. The “Mormon Wives” star also lost temporary custody of her 2-year-old son, Ever, whom she shares with Mortensen.

On Wednesday, it was revealed that Utah police were investigating allegations of another domestic violence incident involving Taylor and Mortensen.

Recently unveiled surveillance footage reveals Bryan Kohberger nonchalantly entering a DMV in Washington. During his visit, he requested a license plate change and engaged in a casual conversation with an employee, even as the topic of four Idaho college students’ murders came up—murders he had committed just days prior.

The security video, provided to Storyful by the Washington State Department of Licensing, shows Kohberger at the Pullman Vehicle Vessel Licensing office on November 18, 2022. He is seen conversing with the DMV employee about being from the East Coast and discussing their baseball team preferences.

During the exchange, the DMV worker shares that she hails from the Bay Area but prefers residing in Washington over California.

“I really like it here,” she remarks. “It’s small, quiet, and I would say safe, but the whole Moscow thing makes it feel a little less so,” she comments to Kohberger.

Her remark directly alludes to the tragic incident in Moscow, where Kohberger had fatally attacked four University of Idaho students at their home on November 13.

The former Washington State University PhD student was arrested on December 30, 2022, in Monroe County, Pennsylvania.

In July last year, Kohberger was sentenced to life in prison without parole after agreeing to plead guilty to murder as part of a deal with prosecutors to avoid the death penalty.

The House Ethics Committee has concluded that a Democratic congresswoman has breached numerous House rules and ethics standards, involving the misuse of $5 million in taxpayer money.

Florida Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick is currently under intense scrutiny following accusations that she diverted funds from her family’s healthcare company, obtained during the COVID-19 pandemic, to support her political campaigns.

This decision might bolster the Republican agenda to seek her expulsion from Congress.

In a lengthy session lasting over seven hours on Thursday night, an ethics panel, equally composed of four Democrats and four Republicans, determined that Cherfilus-McCormick was guilty of 25 ethics violations.

The panel announced on Friday that they plan to propose a suitable penalty in the coming weeks.

The congresswoman, along with a handful of co-conspirators is accused of steering money that came into a family health-care company she ran with her brother, Edwin Cherfilus, into her campaign coffers through ‘straw donations.’ 

Cherfilus-McCormick was indicted by a federal grand jury in Miami in November.

The indictment from Cherfilus–McCormick’s case said she purchased a 3.14–carat ‘Fancy Vivid Yellow Diamond’ ring from a New York jeweler for $109,000, per CBS12. The congresswoman’s official house portrait appears to show a similar piece of jewelry adorning her finger, although no concrete link has been confirmed.

A press release issued at the time by the US Department of Justice noted that if convicted of a crime, Cherfilus-McCormick faces up to 53 years in prison. 

Now, in a rare declaration, the House Ethics Committee has decided that she is indeed guilty, despite her not-guilty plea.

In a Wednesday evening statement, issued hours ahead of the panel trial, Cherfilus-McCormick noted that she was ‘deeply disappointed the Committee chose to move forward with this trial while denying my legal team reasonable time to prepare.’  

Fellow Democrats have been caught in an uncomfortable bind, trying to uphold their anti-corruption message while one of their own faces serious charges. 

‘If they give us conclusions that this actually happened, and there’s no question of doubt as to the fact that laws were broken, then our colleague will have to face the consequences of that — it’s plain and simple,’ Massachusetts Democrat Stephen Lynch told Politico.

Meanwhile, Republicans may see a political opening, as her removal could temporarily widen their razor-thin majority.

Republican Congressman Greg Steube, a fellow member of the Florida delegation noted this week that ‘the committee will make a determination, and once that is made public, what the committee votes on, I will move the floor to expell.’

Steube also stated that ‘you’re in a situation where you have a sitting member of Congress, who’s allegedly stolen over $5 million in taxpayer funds. She should immediately resign instead of going through this process, but she’s going to force us to do this.’

Even if the committee recommends expulsion, it won’t be easy. A two-thirds vote of the full House is required to expel a member. 

That would mean that approximately 80 members of her own party would have to turn against her.

‘They want it to move quickly is my guess, and they want to get to a floor vote on expulsion asap,’ noted former Ethics Committee member Susan Wild, a Pennsylvania Democrat who is no longer in Congress.

Between the rare public hearing, criminal allegations, and control of Congress hanging in the balance as the resignation or expulsion of a Democrat could widen the narrow GOP majority, this ethics battle is a noteworthy one, but not totally unprecedented.

The last member to be expelled from the chamber was ex-Congressman George Santos, who was sentenced to nearly seven years in prison for misleading donors and spending campaign money fraudulently. The 2023 vote against Santos was 311-114.

Santos had his sentence commuted by Trump after serving around three months in prison.

More than a week has passed since the Department of Homeland Security disclosed that Sheridan Gorman, a freshman at Loyola University Chicago, was tragically murdered by an undocumented immigrant. Despite this, the university’s student newspaper still features a tracker for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities, encouraging individuals to report ICE presence in the area.

The editorial staff of the Loyola Phoenix announced last October that it had created a map to track ICE activities, soliciting tips about those activities from readers and the public at large. The tracker is highly-touted on the newspaper’s Instagram page, and is pinned to the top of the organization’s profile.

The publication explains its rationale: “While social media rapidly disseminates information, it can also spread falsehoods. As student journalists, we aim to provide a centralized and reliable platform for documenting verified ICE sightings during this significant period.”

The announcement goes on to detail, “The Phoenix has developed a map to mark locations where ICE agents are spotted. Anyone can submit sightings, which we will verify before sharing on our social media channels and website.”

The 18-year-old was fatally shot in the early hours of March 19 while spending time with friends at a pier in Chicago’s Roger’s Park neighborhood. According to DHS, Jose Medina-Medina, a 25-year-old undocumented immigrant from Venezuela, allegedly fired the fatal shot that ended the young student’s life.

Medina-Medina was apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol on May 9, 2023, and was released into the U.S. under the Biden administration, according to DHS.

Earlier this week, The Loyola Phoenix found itself in hot water after activists badgered the paper about using the term “illegal immigrant” in a story and the word “immigrant” in the headline.

The paper’s editorial staff swiftly apologized and updated the language, dropping the relevant information about Medina-Medina’s immigration status.

A long editor’s note in the body of the article, originally titled “Immigrant Man Charged in Murder of Sheridan Gorman, DHS Involved,” explained that those terms were improper.

“That headline didn’t reflect the most important elements in the story, and it was taken down minutes later to prevent any further harm to affected community members,” the editor’s note said.

“Additionally, in the body of the original post, we described the man who was charged as an ‘illegal immigrant,’ using language provided by the Department of Homeland Security,” it said. “That language does not align with Associated Press style, nor does it align with the values of this newspaper.”

“No human’s existence is illegal, and we quickly changed our wording to reflect that.”

The note conceded that the story’s language caused harm.

“We acknowledge the harm such language can cause and the power and importance of the words we choose to use,” the note said. “We deeply regret these errors, and we’re committed to continuing the high standards we hold for ourselves as journalists and members of the Loyola, Rogers Park and Chicago communities.”

The alleged murder has caused a political uproar, as the Gorman family and local and federal officials have blasted Chicago and the state of Illinois for their pronounced refusal to cooperate with federal immigration officials.

Gorman’s family wrote a letter to Gov. J.B. Pritzker, D-Ill. and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson demanding accountability.

“What happened to Sheridan cannot be reduced to a ‘senseless tragedy,’ nor can it be explained in general terms about public safety. Sheridan was our daughter. She was 18 years old. She was doing something entirely normal—walking near her campus with friends. She should be here,” the family said.

“Calling this ‘senseless’ is not enough. There must be a clear and honest accounting of what went wrong,” the family added. “We will not allow Sheridan’s life to be reduced to a talking point or a generalization. We expect leadership that is willing to confront hard truths and ensure that what happened to her does not happen again.”

Neither The Loyola Phoenix nor Loyola University Chicago returned requests for comment.
