Police Patrol Car Was Travelling Over 150km/h Before Fatal Crash

0

The police patrol car that crashed into a tree in Sydney’s inner west, killing a young female constable, was travelling at more than 150km/h, police sources have disclosed.

Constable Mia Lay, 20, died when the police vehicle she was travelling in struck a tree on Gibbons Street, Redfern, at about 1.30am on Friday.

She was accompanied by Constable Brandon Torrisi, 24, who was driving the Volkswagen Tiguan. The officers had been responding to an urgent report of a stolen car in nearby Glebe.

Multiple police sources told the Daily Telegraph that the vehicle was travelling above 150km/h when it crashed into the tree, killing Constable Lay instantly.

Constable Torrisi sustained minor injuries and was discharged from hospital later on Friday.

CCTV footage released over the weekend showed Constable Torrisi climbing out of the wreckage before turning back to look at the devastating scene.

Crash investigators are working to establish what caused the collision, while police have not ruled out charging Constable Torrisi if they determine he was driving unnecessarily fast.

Investigators have not yet interviewed him.

‘As you can imagine, his state of mind is not great,’ a police source said.

‘There are a lot of examples where officers involved in accidents while on duty have been charged, and this case will be treated exactly the same.’

Investigators will also inspect the patrol car for possible defects or mechanical problems that may have contributed to the crash.

The NSW Police watchdog said it would oversee the force’s investigation to help ‘ensure public confidence’.

The Law Enforcement Conduct Commission said it could not independently investigate the crash until the NSW Police inquiry, along with any coronial or criminal proceedings, had been completed.

Constable Lay’s family and her partner, Daniel Vasquez, a fellow officer based in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, visited the crash site on Saturday. Mr Vasquez later remembered her as the ‘happiest girl’ and the ‘love of my life’.

‘Mia loved what she did in the police, she was happy in the police, she was good at her job and she was loved by everyone in the community,’ he told the Sunday Telegraph.

‘She was the happiest girl I’ve met – when she was with me, when she was at work – and I’d ask everyone to remember how stunning and beautiful she was.’

On Friday morning, officers could be seen hugging and comforting each other at the scene

The accident occurred just 100 metres from Redfern Police Station.

On Friday, NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon described Constable Lay’s death as a ‘terrible tragedy’.

‘Mia was a loved police officer, she’d been in the force for 16 months, she had shown exceptional promise and was well loved,’ he said.

‘She’s shown exceptional promise and was well loved throughout the South Sydney Police Area Command.

‘She would have been an outstanding police officer, and to lose her life, both in its prime and just as she was establishing herself as a police officer, is a terrible tragedy.’

Police Minister Yasmine Catley said Constable Lay’s colleagues had called her an ‘angel’.

‘Both her parents spoke of how much she loved her job and how proud she was to be a New South Wales Police officer,’ she said.

‘It was clear the young woman loved what she was doing, but tragically, she went to work and never came home.’

Constable Lay’s mother visited Redfern Police Station afterwards and was shown her daughter’s locker.

An Airbnb guest shot an 18-year-old suspect who allegedly entered a Fort Lauderdale home during an attempted armed robbery, according to police and local reports.

The incident unfolded around 6 p.m. Thursday when two armed men allegedly forced their way into the rental property and became involved in a confrontation with the guest, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department told CBS Miami.

Sean Thompson, 25, of Margate, Florida, was arrested for an armed home invasion alongside alleged accomplice Dareon Pubien, 18, at a Fort Lauderdale Airbnb on Sept. 24, 2026. Broward Sheriff’s Office

During the confrontation, the unidentified renter—who was also armed—shot suspect Dareon Pubien in the chest, authorities said.

Pubien allegedly ran from the home, but officers located him nearby after following a trail of blood around the corner, according to the report.

The injured teen was transported to a local hospital and underwent surgery. He was later listed in critical but stable condition.

Arthur Butler Jr., who lives across the street, said he heard a rapid burst of gunfire Thursday and called 911.

Police officers investigate a crime scene at night, with yellow caution tape marking off the area.

The Airbnb renter shot Pubien after the armed invaders busted into the home.

“Maybe at least 10, and then everybody was running,” Butler Jr. told the outlet.

Police also arrested Pubien’s alleged accomplice, 25-year-old Sean Thompson, in connection with the robbery. Both men face charges of attempted felony murder and home invasion with a firearm.

Thompson was ordered held without bond. Pubien is expected to appear for arraignment after he is released from the hospital.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Mississippi Mayor Warns of Kratom Dangers After Deaths of Two Ole Miss Students

0

The mayor of Oxford, Mississippi, has issued a stark warning about kratom as the college town mourns the unexplained deaths of two University of Mississippi students, saying anyone who takes the controversial substance is “rolling the dice on death.”

Mayor Robyn Tannehill spoke out after investigators recovered packaged kratom while examining the deaths of Ole Miss students Aidan Hamilton, 18, and Robert Strang, 20.

The students were found dead in different locations earlier this week. Their deaths have shaken the tight-knit university community and prompted an urgent investigation involving narcotics detectives.

Investigators have not yet identified what caused either death. Tannehill emphasized that autopsy and toxicology findings must be completed before authorities can determine whether kratom—or another substance—was involved.

Even so, the mayor said the tragedy should prompt renewed scrutiny of substances that can be found in smoke shops, convenience stores and gas stations, where some products may pose serious risks.

“To take kratom is really rolling the dice on death,” Tannehill told Fox News on Saturday. “That sounds dramatic, but it’s the truth. And so our challenge right now is to make our young people understand the dangers of these drugs.”

Tannehill said Oxford officials have been focused on kratom for years. The city moved to limit its availability after the police chief raised concerns about the substance.

“Our city board passed a law seven years ago prohibiting kratom from being sold in gas stations across our community,” she said. “This is a substance that our police chief identified as dangerous in 2019, and we immediately took action.”

Oxford, Mississippi Mayor Robyn Tannehill warned that taking kratom is like 'rolling the dice on death' as the community reels from the deaths of two Ole Miss students.

Oxford, Mississippi, Mayor Robyn Tannehill compared taking kratom to “rolling the dice on death” as the community grieves the deaths of two Ole Miss students.

Aidan Hamilton, an 18-year-old freshman from Colorado, was the second student to die under suspicious circumstances

Aidan Hamilton, an 18-year-old freshman from Colorado, was the second student to die in circumstances that remain under investigation.

The mayor also said authorities are continuing to pursue individuals suspected of illegally supplying potentially dangerous substances to young people.

“We are always trying to find the bad actors in our community that are choosing to sell these things to kids,” she said.

Her comments followed a police raid at a smoke shop about a mile from the Ole Miss campus, where two employees were arrested on drug-related charges.

Yahya Mohamed Mosleh, 51, and Islam Mohamed, 18, were booked on allegations of possessing Schedule I drugs with the intent to distribute them.

According to Oxford police, agents seized more than 500 units of kratom during the operation, as well as THC cartridges, gummies and other suspected drugs.

Police also said the store’s owner, 40-year-old Amer Alowdi, had previously been indicted on drug-trafficking charges and had since left the country.

Authorities have not connected the arrests or the smoke shop to the deaths of Hamilton and Strang. The investigation into the students’ deaths remains ongoing.

The Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Unit said “packaged kratom” was found during both death investigations.

Kratom is derived from a Southeast Asian tree and can produce stimulant-like effects at lower doses and opioid-like effects at higher doses.

It is sometimes marketed for energy, pain relief or managing opioid withdrawal.

‘We are awaiting autopsy and toxicology reports, and until those tests are in, it is just, you know, speculation at this point,’ Tannehill said.

Hamilton, a freshman from Colorado, was found inside Stewart Hall on campus. Emergency responders attempted CPR but were unable to save him.

Strang, a junior from Georgia, was discovered at an off-campus house on Van Buren Avenue.

Tannehill said the entire Oxford community was now mourning with them.

‘This tragic loss of these two young men has deeply impacted our community, and my heart is broken for these parents, family and friends and classmates of Robert and Aidan,’ she said.

‘As a mom and a mayor, I take seriously our responsibility to provide a safe place for the students who we’re entrusted with for four to five to six years. Every student on that Ole Miss campus is important to us.’

Tannehill looked to reassure frightened students and parents that the two deaths did not mean Oxford had suddenly become unsafe.

‘Oxford is an extremely safe town,’ she said. ‘It’s a place where, as you walk down the street, people still speak to you. It’s a place that takes care of each other.’

She added that substance abuse and dangerous drugs are problems confronting college communities nationwide.

‘The issues we’re dealing with right now are issues that every college campus across the nation is dealing with. It’s not unique to Oxford,’ she said.

‘Unfortunately, the spotlight is on Oxford now because of these two tragic deaths, and if that spotlight can help us save other kids then, you know, that is my prayer.’

Tannehill urged students to look after one another.

‘I just encourage students to take care of each other,’ Tannehill said. ‘Know that our community is rallying around you.’

And she delivered an equally blunt message to anyone illegally supplying drugs in the city.

‘To the bad actors in our community, know that we are looking for you every single day, that we are not going to leave any stone unturned to make sure that we protect our community.’

Trump Administration Begins Airing 2024 Campaign Ad in Latest Taxpayer-Funded Messaging Push

0

WASHINGTON – The Trump administration is spending taxpayer money on a television advertisement adapted from Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, marking the latest in a series of spots promoting the president ahead of the midterm elections. The White House describes the ads as “public service announcements.”

The 30-second video closely mirrors a 2024 campaign ad. It shows Trump walking through a hallway while his voice warns of a “final battle” against “globalists” and “warmongers.” The black-and-white spot ends with Trump looking directly into the camera and the words, “Paid for by the U.S. Government.” The campaign version urged viewers to “Join President Trump’s Fight for America.”

lawmakers from both parties have condemned the new ads as inherently political, particularly because they are being financed with public funds. The White House argues that similar spots ran under previous presidents, although those advertisements focused on specific policies rather than promoting the occupants of the Oval Office.

AdImpact, which monitors media spending, estimates that roughly $319,000 has already been spent on the latest advertisement.

“With you at my side, we will demolish the ‘deep state.’ We will expel the war mongers from our government. We will drive out the globalists; we will cast out the communists, Marxists, and fascists,” Trump says in the narration. “We will throw off the sick political class that hates our country. We will rout the fake news media, and we will liberate America from these villains once and for all.”

The spot follows a one-minute advertisement that began airing Friday, featuring nighttime footage of Mount Rushmore alongside quotations and excerpts from Trump’s Fourth of July weekend speech honoring the nation’s 250th anniversary. Another 30-second ad, launched Wednesday, combines clips of Trump discussing the defeat of communism with text touting the “largest tax cuts in history,” “reigniting American manufacturing” and defending law enforcement and police.

In a statement Friday, the White House defended the spending on what it called “public service announcements” and dismissed the criticism as “deeply dishonest.”

“The announcements are very clearly not campaign ads; President Trump is not on the ballot and there is no call to action,” the White House said. “Instead, the announcements are a reminder for Americans to love their country and know why it’s worth defending — at home, at the border, and abroad.”

The White House pointed to past examples, including the George W. Bush administration’s campaign promoting a Medicare law and the Biden administration’s advertising effort encouraging COVID-19 vaccinations.

Model Presley Gerber’s Ex Pays Emotional Tribute to His “Wide Open Heart”

0

Cameron said she has not encountered that “incredibly beautiful quality”—something she described as “honest and pure” in another person—since Presley.

The 28-year-old ended her emotional tribute with a poignant farewell: “He was an angel in this life and will be in the next. I hope you can feel the outpouring of love up there Pres.”

Presley died on Sept. 20 after a suspected overdose at a rehabilitation facility in Los Angeles.

Five days later, his death certificate confirmed that Presley had been cremated, according to the document obtained by TMZ on Sept. 25. The outlet reported that his ashes would remain at his parents’ home in Malibu.

An autopsy was conducted before Presley—whose sister is Kaia Gerber—was cremated. However, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has deferred determining his cause of death, stating that “additional testing and/or studies were requested in order to make a determination,” according to a press release.

Russian Supersonic Jets Spark NATO Scramble After Putin’s ‘Clowns’ Jab

0

Finnish and Swedish fighter jets were scrambled on Sept. 24 for the first time to intercept supersonic Russian military aircraft over the Gulf of Finland, underscoring the growing strength of Nordic defense cooperation as tensions with Moscow intensify.

The joint mission took place a day before Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected European warnings about a possible Russian threat in the region and ridiculed Estonia’s defense minister over the country’s preparations for a potential attack.

Finnish F/A-18 Hornets and Swedish JAS 39 Gripens were launched after Russian aircraft were spotted in international airspace, the Swedish Armed Forces said.

The Russian group consisted of a Tu-134 transport aircraft, high-altitude supersonic MiG-31 interceptors built to identify and engage long-range threats, and Su-30 multirole fighters capable of conducting both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions.

“This is what close cooperation looks like in practice,” Maj. Gen. Jonas Wikman, commander of the Swedish Air Force, said in a statement after the operation.

“Built over years on trust and strong personal relationships, we can now operate seamlessly together — as air forces, as nations and as Allies.”

Concern about Russian military activity near NATO’s eastern flank has increased after a series of airspace incursions and other incidents.

The incidents have included Russian drones entering Polish airspace, a Mi-8 helicopter crossing from Kaliningrad into Poland, drones crashing in Romania and Moldova, and armed Russian jets entering Estonian airspace before NATO aircraft intercepted them on Sept. 18.

Estonian Defense Minister Martin Herem warned that Russia could have the ability to use military force against Estonia within a year. He said Tallinn must assess whether its defenses would be adequate in that situation.

Prime Minister Kristen Michal said the government was prepared to close border crossing points at short notice if threat assessments changed, according to reports.

Speaking Friday at the St. Petersburg International United Cultures Forum, Putin dismissed those warnings.

“Many people in Europe say they expect an attack from Russia and therefore claim they must prepare for war with Russia,” Putin said.

“I want to emphasize once again: we are not preparing for military action against Europe. We have no such plans, no basis for them, and, most importantly, no real motive to escalate the situation with Europe.”

Putin also mocked Herem’s assessment, saying: “As we jokingly say in Russia: ‘The circus has left, but the clowns remain.’ It is political clowning. … Clearly, these statements are complete nonsense and absurdity,” according to EurAsia Daily.

Estonia lies across the Gulf of Finland from Finland, and the three nations now form part of NATO’s increasingly coordinated northern and eastern defenses as concerns over Russian military activity persist.

Finland became NATO’s 31st member in April 2023, approximately doubling the alliance’s land border with Russia. Sweden joined as the 32nd member in March 2024. Estonia, which restored its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, has belonged to NATO since 2004.

The Baltic Sea region has remained on heightened alert since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, amid incidents involving gas pipelines, alleged sabotage and other hybrid threats, Reuters has reported.

NATO said in June that it was enhancing protection of its eastern members in the cyber and space domains while helping countries build resilience against what it describes as hostile Russian actions, including cyberattacks, sabotage and airspace violations.

NATO says its military activities along the eastern flank are entirely defensive and that it is “ready, willing and able to defend every Ally.”

The alliance has said an attack against any member would be met with a “resounding response.”

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte recently underscored Washington’s role in the alliance during a visit to Iowa, telling The Associated Press that Putin “knows that the United States and Europe are totally intertwined.”

“We have to make sure that we are prepared, we are strong, and he knows it,” Rutte said.

“And if he does anything silly, he knows our reaction will be tough,” he warned.

European intelligence officials said Sept. 24 that Russia could test NATO’s defenses.

Denmark’s Defense Intelligence Service assessed the risk of a limited Russian military attack against a NATO country in the coming months as “low but growing” and said Moscow is expected to intensify its hybrid campaign against NATO and the West.

The service said in a statement that a full-scale Russian invasion of a NATO member remains highly unlikely but can no longer be ruled out.

Bill Gates Laughs as He Denies Visiting Epstein’s Island

0

Bill Gates nervously chuckled while denying that he had ever visited Jeffrey Epstein’s notorious private island, despite maintaining a relationship with the disgraced financier.

The Microsoft co-founder discussed Epstein, artificial intelligence and other subjects during an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press that aired Sunday.

Gates appeared visibly uneasy and laughed nervously as journalist Kristen Welker questioned him about his dealings with Epstein.

“I really appreciated the chance to go in front of Congress and make it clear, uh, you know, to go through every meeting I have with him—which is about 10 meetings over a couple-year period,” he told Welker.

In June, Gates gave a closed-door deposition to the House Oversight Committee about his connection to Epstein.

He continued to hesitate at points as he said: “I never—there were never any women in those meetings, there’s nothing financially, I never went to the island or anything like that.”

“So if people are curious about that, I encourage them to read. You know, I was there to answer any question that people had,” Gates added.

Gates was referring to Epstein’s secluded Caribbean property, which became known as “pedophile island.”

Gates denied visiting Epstein’s infamous “pedophile island,” where the convicted sex offender was accused in lawsuits, federal investigations and witness testimony of trafficking, abusing and exploiting underage girls and women

Federal investigations, civil lawsuits and accounts from multiple victims have described Epstein’s use of the island in the trafficking, abuse and exploitation of underage girls and women.

Epstein, who was found hanging in his federal jail cell in 2019, had connections to numerous prominent people, including Gates.

Gates, 70, remained in contact with Epstein for years, despite Epstein’s status as a registered sex offender at the time.

Following Epstein’s death, Gates repeatedly apologized for the relationship. During his congressional appearance, he also said he wished they had never met.

Before that appearance, reports had emerged alleging that Gates had slept with Russian women, contracted a sexually transmitted infection and planned to secretly give antibiotics to his then-wife, Melinda French Gates.

The claims, made public on January 30, came from emails Epstein wrote and sent to himself on July 18, 2013.

After the allegations surfaced, Gates held a private town hall meeting with employees of the Gates Foundation, one of the world’s largest private philanthropic organizations. Melinda French Gates resigned as the foundation’s co-chair in 2024.

At the closed-door meeting, known internally as “BG Unplugged,” the Microsoft executive acknowledged having two affairs with the Russian women referenced in Epstein’s correspondence, according to a previous report by The Wall Street Journal.

During his Meet the Press interview, Gates also accused Epstein of using their friendship to build his own reputation.

‘I was told by Jeffrey after I met him that he could help raise billions of dollars for global health – you know, he wouldn’t be paid, he would have no role.

‘That proved to be a complete dead end. So my spending time with him, like many other people, kind of helped his reputation. You know, that’s very regrettable,’ he said.

French Gates has also spoken out about her ex-husband’s ties to Epstein, and shared a chilling encounter she had with the pedophile.

In a candid interview with The Guardian in June, the billionaire philanthropist opened up about her painful divorce from Gates, her horror after meeting Epstein and her determination to use her vast fortune to transform women’s healthcare.

While discussing Epstein, the 61-year-old became visibly emotional when asked what about him disturbed her so deeply when she met him.

‘My heart is racing,’ she said, before asking a striking question of her own.

‘Have you ever in your life been around somebody that you just know is evil?

‘There you go. You just have your answer. We need to listen to our feelings about people,’ she told the outlet.

Amid the fallout from the Epstein Files release, their marriage fell apart following Gates’s extramarital affairs.

Gates has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing related to Epstein and says he never witnessed any criminal activity, but conceded that his friendship with the pedophile was a ‘grave error in judgment.’

Friends urge police probe into Sir Ranulph Fiennes’ alleged captivity

0

Some of Britain’s most prominent explorers are calling for a police investigation into the mystery surrounding Sir Ranulph Fiennes’s disappearance, after his family claimed their pleas for help had been ignored. Their message to him was clear: “We are coming!”

The 82-year-old adventurer, who has Parkinson’s disease and has not been seen in public for more than two years, has reportedly been placed under a false name and moved between several care homes by his second wife.

His stepson, Alexander Millington-Cotes, said he had made no progress in persuading two police forces to investigate. Fellow adventurers, including Bear Grylls and Ben Fogle, have now joined calls for authorities to act.

One of the forces has declined to say whether it intends to investigate, while the other has yet to make a public response.

Support for the family has continued to grow, with more than £15,000 raised for a crowdfunded legal campaign launched by Mr Millington-Cotes.

Often hailed as the world’s greatest living explorer, Sir Ranulph has completed extraordinary feats, including running seven marathons across seven continents in seven days. He also climbed Everest at the age of 65, four years after suffering a heart attack.

However, after he married his second wife, Louise Millington-Cotes, in 2005, Mr Millington-Cotes says her behaviour became increasingly “dominating”. Louise, who is 23 years younger than Sir Ranulph, married him just over a year after the death of his first wife. Her stepson describes himself as “estranged” from his mother.

Friends and a business associate gave The Mail on Sunday a similar account. One said Sir Ranulph had complained that he was “only ever being allowed 24 hours at a time away from her”.

Friends and relatives say Louise was reportedly granted lasting power of attorney over Sir Ranulph in 2024. They were initially allowed to visit the couple at a London care home, but only after signing a non-disclosure agreement.

Since then, however, Sir Ranulph has reportedly been moved between a series of care homes under a false name. The Care Inspectorate concluded that he had been unlawfully deprived of his liberty.

For months, Mr Millington-Cotes has been trying to locate him and establish whether he is safe and receiving proper care.

He has approached police in Cheshire, where one of the care homes is located, as well as West Mercia Police, the force covering the area where the couple previously lived. His efforts have so far produced no result.

“I’m trying to establish from the police what they’re doing… I’ve tried to get in touch but no luck so far,” he told the Sunday Telegraph.

Backing his appeal, fellow explorer Bear Grylls said: “We have been desperately trying to connect with Ran for a year now to no avail.

“But truth always wins out.

“These reports of his isolation from his loved ones and treatment in care homes are so deeply disturbing.

“It’s past time for the Office for the Public Guardian and the police to investigate urgently. We owe it to him.”

‘Ran we are coming!’

Ben Fogle, who like Sir Ranulph has walked to the South Pole and summited Everest, has also called on the police to investigate.

‘That such a great man, hero of mine and a national treasure, should be treated in this way, isolated and kept away from family and friends, is very troubling,’ he said on social media.

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first person to sail single-handed and non-stop around the world, said: ‘The recent news that he is being shuffled from home to home and not allowed to see his friends is the deprivation of a basic human right.’

Other celebrity friends include Gardeners’ World host Monty Don, who said Sir Ranulph should be ‘enjoying the admiration and respect of the whole country after such a remarkable life and not kept hidden away from family and friends’.

Meanwhile veteran BBC journalist John Simpson said: ‘He’s the world’s bravest man, and he’s vulnerable. We must know what’s happening to him.’

And shadow health and care secretary Damian Hinds has called for ‘any potential failings’ at the care watchdog the Office Of The Public Guardian to be ‘looked into’.

Mr Millington-Cotes, 31, is now seeking to raise £55,000 to fund legal action if that becomes necessary.

‘I want to ensure his complete free will, the ability to walk outside, see whoever he wants,’ he told The Mail on Sunday.

Cheshire Police declined to comment, while West Mercia Police have yet to comment.

Mrs Millington-Cotes, 59, has so far not responded to requests for comment.

Seattle Woman Says Stranger Bit Off Part of Her Forehead

A woman was allegedly attacked by a ranting stranger who called her “the inferior race” before biting a piece of skin from her forehead.

Diana Gonzalez was reportedly bitten during an unprovoked assault by 36-year-old Kamilia Chadli in downtown Seattle on September 18, according to KOMO News.

Gonzalez told the outlet she was walking to a 7-Eleven near her workplace during a break when Chadli allegedly threw trash at her and began shouting racist and homophobic insults.

“She started yelling racist things after throwing trash and spitting on me,” Gonzalez said.

After Gonzalez asked why the trash had been thrown at her, Chadli allegedly replied, “You’re the inferior race,” according to charging documents cited by the outlet.

The woman was also accused of directing a homophobic slur at Gonzalez and spitting on her.

Authorities said Chadli then seized Gonzalez and pulled her to the ground before biting a circular section of skin, measuring roughly one inch across, from her forehead.

“It looks like a zombie bite like in a movie that you would see,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez told KOMO News she was walking to a 7-Eleven near her job during a break when Chadli allegedly threw trash at her and began hurling insults. When Gonzalez asked why, Chadli reportedly yelled, “You’re the inferior race.”

A witness saw the violent confrontation and intervened, separating the two women.

Chadli allegedly ran from the scene but was detained a short time later, according to charging documents.

Officials said investigators found the piece of Gonzalez’s forehead in a storm drain, while blood covered the nearby sidewalk.

Seattle Fire initially treated Gonzalez before she was taken to Harborview Medical Center for further care.

Prosecutors said Gonzalez was scheduled for a skin graft on Tuesday and is expected to have a permanent scar.

Gonzalez has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover medical bills and lost wages while she remains unable to work.

“Since this happened, my day-to-day life has completely changed,” Gonzalez said.

“I can’t work right now, and I am dealing with anxiety on top of the physical trauma. I also need therapy as I try to recover from what happened to me.”

Chadli was first arrested on suspicion of a hate crime but is now facing charges of second-degree assault.

Prosecutors said Chadli intentionally assaulted Gonzalez and recklessly inflicted substantial bodily harm.

According to the outlet, while she is not currently charged with a hate crime, she can still be hit with that offense if there is evidence to prove it.

Gonzalez is seeking to have her alleged attacker face a serious sentence even if she accepts a plea deal.

‘I would like for the charge not to be lessened,’ said Gonzalez.

‘I would like that if she did take a plea, she would still have to serve a lengthy sentence and get additional therapy or help in jail or prison, just so she wouldn’t reoffend.’

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson is known for her soft-on-crime approach, as she ran on a platform pushing for a model of community policing over strict enforcement.

She was previously a vocal supporter of defunding the police in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder in 2020, but her policies have become more nuanced since then.

According to crime statistics tracker Neighborhood Scout, Seattle residents have a shocking one in 129 chance of being a victim of a violent crime.

The robbery rate is over triple the national average at 2.22 cases for every 1,000 residents, and there are an average of 444 crimes per square mile in the city.

The city has also become known as a homelessness hotspot across the nation, and its unhoused population has surged by a staggering 88 percent in the past 10 years.
