Iran’s Demands Halt Strait of Hormuz Reopening: Critical Talks Loom

On Saturday, Iran announced a set of preconditions for reopening the vital Strait of Hormuz, demanding compensation for wartime damages. This move adds complexity to any potential negotiation to unlock the waterway crucial to the global economy.
Since late February, Iran has effectively blockaded the strait in response to attacks by the United States and Israel. Tehran now seeks to impose tolls for ships passing through and has resorted to attacking vessels that attempt to bypass its designated routes.
Repeated assaults within the strait, once freely navigable before hostilities erupted, ultimately caused the breakdown of an April ceasefire. Mediators have been urging both parties to revert to the terms established in a June memorandum to restore peace.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi highlighted that talks with Oman on the strait’s transit and management are nearing completion. However, he emphasized that reopening Hormuz hinges on additional conditions and redress for breaches of the June accord.
On Saturday, Security Chief Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr outlined a series of demands for reopening the strait, which include ceasing “war and aggression against Iran and its allies in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, and Iraq.”
He also demanded the lifting of a parallel US naval blockade of Iran, the end of sanctions, the release of frozen assets and compensation for wartime damage, according to remarks reported by Tasnim news agency.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, meanwhile, said Hormuz’s reopening had “nothing to do with the negotiations between Iran and Oman”, adding that the “enemy is forced to accept Iran’s conditions for the opening of the strait”.
Repeated attacks
The comments came as transit through Hormuz has dropped significantly, with Iran targeting ships it accuses of skirting its preferred route through Iranian waters.
The United Arab Emirates’ foreign ministry on Saturday condemned what it called a “hostile Iranian attack that targeted a tanker belonging to ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) with a missile while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, without causing casualties”.
Later on Saturday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said a ship was hit by a projectile off Oman in the Strait of Hormuz, causing a fire that was extinguished but no casualties. It was unclear whether they were referring to the same ship.
On Friday, ADNOC had put out a statement saying that since the start of the war, 15 of its vessels had been attacked in Hormuz, “including three vessels this week alone”.
Oman’s foreign ministry on Saturday condemned “repeated attacks on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz”, without naming Iran.
It also said that “ongoing negotiations regarding navigation arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz are proceeding in a positive and constructive atmosphere”, and urged against any actions that might jeopardise the progress.
The previous Iran-US deal — meant to serve as a jumping-off point for negotiations on a permanent settlement — had said Iran and Oman would hash out future arrangements for the strait in discussion with other Gulf countries and “in line with the applicable international law”.
International law generally forbids tolling in such waterways.
Security agreement
Türkiye’s foreign minister said Saturday he expected Egypt to join a joint defence agreement between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan designed to stabilize the region, calling the country a “natural partner on all issues”.
“I believe that at the next stage Egypt will also be among us in the alliance. We already act toward one another as if we were alliance members,” Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in an interview.
A drone struck US assets at an Egyptian port on the Mediterranean last month, marking the first drone attack on Egyptian territory since the outbreak of the Iran war.
Fidan said the agreement does not target a specific country.
“There is no common threat that we have put in writing,” he said, according to the news agency.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry said Friday the pact meant an attack on any member would be regarded as an attack on all, adding it was “intended to strengthen collective deterrence”.
Costco Employee Arrested in Fatal Motorcycle Collision
An unsettling incident has emerged from Issaquah, Washington, involving a Costco worker accused of causing a fatal crash. The employee reportedly confessed to law enforcement that his intention was merely to “scare” a fellow coworker after spotting him embracing a woman he fancied.
Twenty-two-year-old Tyler Sorensen is at the center of allegations that he pursued 20-year-old coworker Jonathan Langdon out of their workplace. The confrontation unfolded on July 31 after Sorensen observed Langdon share a hug with another colleague, Samantha Peterson.
Surveillance cameras documented the disturbing chase as Sorensen’s gray vehicle closely followed Langdon’s motorbike. Disturbingly, the footage shows Sorensen allegedly accelerating and then colliding with Langdon.
The impact hurled Langdon into a street sign, resulting in his immediate death, while his motorcycle continued its unintended journey onward.
Court documents obtained by KOMO News reveal that Sorensen allegedly fled the scene immediately, pausing only once to ensure his car had no damages before heading home.
He was stopped by a Washington State Patrol Trooper and given a speeding ticket, the officer unaware of the fatal collision that had unfolded a few miles back, according to documents.
Roughly an hour after the incident, King County prosecutors claim Sorensen returned to the crash scene only after his father brought him back.
The alleged suspect admitted to police that he intentionally struck the motorcycle, saying his ‘blood was boiling’ after he saw the victim embrace Peterson.
Surveillance footage from the DA’s office captured the moment 22-year-old Tyler Sorensen’s gray sedan trailed behind his coworker, Jonathan Langdon’s, motorcycle before he allegedly rammed into him
Langdon died from the collision, and Sorensen (pictured) was charged with second-degree murder
‘It was stupid but I… meant to do it,’ he said, according to prosecutors. He then said he didn’t mean to strike the victim, he just wanted to ‘spook him.’
Sorensen claimed that Peterson was his ex-girlfriend, which Peterson has denied.
Peterson told police the two were not romantically involved and that she had repeatedly told Sorensen he was ‘crossing boundaries’ as a friend.
The 22-year-old allegedly sent a chilling text message to friends shortly after the collision, saying, “I f****d up bad.’
Court documents described how the motorcyclist’s body was mangled after he was catapulted into the street sign, the New York Post reported.
‘Langdon’s body is seen violently impacting the metal signpost, causing his body to wrap around the post and recoil backwards, landing face down,’ per court records.
Prosecutors said Langdon was found face down and wearing a black helmet when first responders arrived at the scene.
The impact of the crash was so severe that it caused Langdon’s visor to separate from his helmet.
‘Langdon’s shirt was pulled up from his waist and there appeared to be an impact mark on his lower back.
Sorensen’s vehicle after the incident, he allegedly fled the scene and drove home, only stopping once to check that his car was intact

‘The impact mark appeared to match the metal sign post next to Langdon in width and the circular holes, which left visible matching marks on his skin,’ documents stated.
Sorensen was charged with second-degree murder and thrown behind bars in King County Jail.
He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Thursday, and following the hearing, his bail was set at $2 million.
The Costco worker was ordered to remain in custody, and is scheduled to return to court on August 27 for a routine pre-trial conference.
Florida Man Faces Charges in Tragic Killing of Nurse Mom
In a shocking case from Florida, a man stands accused of murdering his mother just after she relocated to the state in a bid to help him with mental health issues. The tragic incident unfolded shortly after she posted bail for him.
At the center of this heartbreaking scenario is 21-year-old Gibson Nash. Authorities have charged him with first-degree murder following a bewildering chain of events that culminated in the discovery of his mother’s lifeless, bloodied body.
The grim discovery was made by deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, who found 56-year-old nurse Margaret Chu Dufour sprawled on the floor of her Polk County residence. This wasn’t the first time officers had visited the home.
Just a month earlier, deputies had been called to the address to handle a “disturbance” related to her moving company, marking the beginning of a series of unsettling events.

The “movers tried to upcharge her and charge her more money,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in a news conference on Aug. 5.
After movers left, his deputies helped her finish moving items into her new home “without fanfare,” Judd said.
“That’s the kind of customer service our deputies do.”
So deputies with the same department were horrified to find her dead on the floor a month later. It was the culmination of a series of puzzling events on the morning of July 21, Judd said.
Just before 7 a.m., her son was involved in multiple traffic crashes while driving her vehicle, a blue BMW SUV, Judd said.
After fleeing the first crash, Nash allegedly hit a slew of other vehicles with the SUV, Judd said. The rampage caused more property damage, additional crashes between other vehicles, and ultimately, injuries to three people, who were treated at a hospital.
Deputies then found Nash unconscious behind the wheel of the SUV covered in blood. That confused deputies, Judd said.
“It was a significant crash, but it was like, ‘Why is he unconscious?’” Judd said.
Deputies tried to sort it out at the scene.
“He’s got blood on his hands, and the paramedic thinks this is not a bloody kind of crash. Where did the blood come from?”

Nash was taken to a local hospital with an unknown identity. He was sedated and intubated.
Meanwhile, deputies went to Dufour’s house because it was shown on the vehicle’s registration. She didn’t answer their knock at the door.
They learned that she wasn’t supposed to be at work that day. They saw a broken glass plate near her patio door and a shovel near the side of the house.
Because of the “suspicious circumstances,” they entered the house with a key they found on the front porch, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies then found Dufour “stomped into a bloody puddle in the middle of the floor,” Judd said.
The medical examiner said she died from “blunt force injury from a beating, and from being strangled to death,” Judd said.
“It’s one of the most, personally, violent murders we’ve seen in a very long time,” said the sheriff, who’s been in law enforcement 54 years.
In April, Nash had been arrested twice for allegedly threatening to kill his mother. They both lived in Knoxville, Tennessee, at the time. The first time, Dufour had called 911 after locking the door behind her after entering a smoke shop, leaving him in her vehicle just outside.
She told the 911 operator that her son had “attacked” her the night before and “assaulted” her that morning, Judd said. The only way she could get him to calm down was agreeing to take him to the smoke shop, she said on the call.
Shortly after, Nash was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill her with a knife. Later that month, Nash pulled a knife and threatened to kill her again, this time “over not being able to play on the Xbox,” Judd said.

Margaret Chu Dufour moved into a new home in Eagle Lake, Fla., about a month before she was killed. (Polk County Sheriff’s Office)
Soon after, Dufour moved to Florida. But she returned to Tennessee to bond her son out of jail, Judd said.
Her move south was an attempt to get Nash more mental health treatment, Judd said. Family members told investigators that he’s “bipolar, schizophrenic and maybe autistic.”
While in the hospital after the July traffic crashes in Florida, blood on his clothing was tested and found to be his mother’s, Judd said.
Investigators found “remarkable” bruising on his knuckles and feet “from where he kicked and kicked and stomped and beat his mother,” Judd said.
Nash also was in liver failure from overdosing on Tylenol, Judd said.
Dufour had recently started work as a nurse on the surgery floor at Bartow Regional Medical Center.
Nash’s lawyer, hired by his father, wouldn’t let law enforcement interview him.
“Fortunately for us, he made some omissions without being interviewed,” Judd said.
It was not immediately clear who Nash’s attorney is.
Nash also has been charged with two third-degree felonies for “leaving the scene of a crash involving injury.”
“Gibson Nash needs to remain locked away from the public forever,” Judd said.
He is currently held without bond in a Polk County jail.
“The way he murdered his mother was a mix of pure rage and extreme violence. After killing her, he caused two vehicle crashes on a busy road. He has no respect for others and is a clear threat to society.”
Bystanders Heroically Stop Violent Street Assault on Camera

What started as a night out in Sydney’s eastern suburbs dramatically turned when a man ended up in a hospital, with blood staining the ground while onlookers urgently called for an ambulance, after a suspected assault was recorded on CCTV.
Authorities received an emergency call around 11 p.m. on Saturday, responding to reports of a physical altercation on Coogee Bay Road in Coogee.
Security cameras captured the tense moments leading up to the escalation that descended into violence.
The footage shows a small group, featuring a younger man dressed in a white shirt and the supposed victim, engaging in conversation and embracing on the street.
Subsequently, the video reveals the young man slapping the 41-year-old, then moving aggressively towards him.
The older man backs away with his hands raised, appearing to try to stop the blows, before he is seen on the ground as others rush in to help.
A woman can be heard yelling for someone to call an ambulance while bystanders roll the injured man onto his side.
The footage then appears to show the group trying to walk back towards the fallen man before the woman pushes one away.
“Look what you’ve done to him,” she yelled.
Paramedics treated the 41-year-old man at the scene before taking him to the Prince of Wales Hospital.
Police from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command began investigating, arresting a 26-year-old man at the scene before taking him to Maroubra Police Station.
He was later charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and refused bail to appear before court on Sunday.
Israel Rejects Trump’s Proposed Gaza Peace Plan
In a firm statement on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that his administration has rejected a peace proposal put forward by President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace, signaling a significant diplomatic standoff.
Netanyahu addressed his Cabinet with unmistakable clarity, saying, “I want to clarify this: Israel rejects the 15-point document. I have heard people saying, ‘You didn’t say that.’ So here I am saying it again.’
He reiterated that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) will not execute any withdrawal from Gaza until Hamas has fully disarmed, underscoring a non-negotiable condition for the peace process.
This development comes on the heels of last month’s touting by President Trump of his peace initiative’s progress, which he believed was a critical breakthrough. However, that optimism now faces a significant setback as Netanyahu opposes a central component of the plan, which conditions Israeli withdrawal on the complete disarmament of Hamas.
The Board of Peace’s roadmap initially suggested a phased Israeli pullback from Gaza in response to Hamas laying down its weapons – a concept initially celebrated by Trump but now unequivocally rejected by Netanyahu, who maintains a staunch stance against this proposed timeline.
‘When I say Hamas must be disarmed, I mean heavy weapons, lighter weapons, all weapons. We are talking about genuine disarmament, not a fictitious one,’ Netanyahu declared Sunday, insisting Israeli troops will remain in Gaza until the terror group is completely stripped of its arsenal.
Hamas has taken the opposite position. The group said last month it would only disarm after Israel fully withdraws from Gaza and ends military operations, adding that surrendering its heavy weapons would come later and only if a Palestinian state is established.
Netanyahu also doubled down on his long-standing opposition to Palestinian statehood, declaring: ‘As long as I am Prime Minister, there will be no Palestinian State.’ His comments come as he faces a fierce political fight ahead of October elections, with the wars in Gaza and Iran expected to dominate the campaign.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaks as US President Donals Trump listens during a press conference in December of 2025 at Mar-a-lago in Florida
Destruction in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, seen on July 31, 2026. Israel’s prime minister Netanyahu said on August 9, 2026, that he was rejecting the latest Gaza peace plan hailed by US president Trump. Netanyahu vowed to not withdraw the IDF from GAZA until Hamas is ‘genuinely’ disarmed
Senior Hamas official Basim Naeem blasted Netanyahu’s remarks, urging US officials and international mediators to ‘exert pressure’ on the Israeli leader to follow the agreed roadmap and ‘prevent him from obstructing the process for domestic political and electoral considerations.’
Naeem said Hamas remained committed to the Board of Peace’s proposal, describing it as an act of ‘national responsibility’ that serves the ‘interests of the Palestinian people.’
Netanyahu acknowledged negotiations with Washington remain ongoing despite the impasse.
‘We are currently discussing this issue with the Americans,’ he said. ‘They have ideas; some of them are acceptable to us and some are not, and we know how to stand firm on these matters.’
Netanyahu visited Washington, DC last month for the funeral of former South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who was one of Israel’s most vocal allies in the US Senate.
During the trip, the Israeli leader also met with Trump at the White House, and rubbed shoulders with other top cabinet officials.
At the Washington National Cathedral, Netanyahu crossed paths with Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and was also seen speaking closely with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and his wife.
He was also spotted among senior Trump aides and administration heavyweights including Stephen Miller, Steve Witkoff, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, HHS Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, and Homeland Security chief Markwayne Mullin.
Trump’s meeting with Netanyahu last month was the eighth face-to-face engagement since the Commander in Chief returned to the White House, and their first in-person encounter since a secretive, behind-closed-doors session on February 11.
Katie Price Stirs Up Excitement in the Celebrity MasterChef Kitchen
This summer promises more culinary excitement as “Celebrity Masterchef” makes its eagerly anticipated return.
In a newly released trailer for the 16th season, which dropped on Sunday, Katie Price seems to have left judge Gregg Wallace utterly speechless amid apparent kitchen chaos.
The 43-year-old former glamour model wore an expression of embarrassment while casting a sidelong glance at Gregg, clutching a deep-fat fryer, her apron dotted with stains.
Domestic goddess? Katie Price left Gregg Wallace speechless in a new trailer for “Celebrity Masterchef,” released on Sunday, as chaos seemed to erupt in the kitchen.
Whatever mishap Katie caused clearly pushed Gregg to the brink, leading him to close his eyes and dramatically slap his own forehead in sheer frustration.
Despite multiple mishaps, the celebs appeared to be having a fantastic time in the upbeat video.
‘I’m so excited,’ yelled actress Su Pollard, 71, as The Pointer Sisters’ hit song blasted out in the background.
Journalist Gavin Esler, 68, put on a pensive display as he focused on his cooking while footballer Dion Dublin, 52, pulled a panicked face to the camera in his apron.

Continuing the chaos, cyclist Kadeena Cox, 30, is seen struggling with a food processor while giggling to herself.
Meanwhile, Greg’s fellow judge John Torode looked dumbfounded and disgusted as he held up one of the contestant’s offerings.
‘That’s very sad,’ says comedian Nabil Abdulrashid, 35, at the tragic snack before bursting out laughing.

EastEnders actor Joe Swash, 39, appeared to take some criticism from Greg and John to heart.
‘Are you disappointed by my dumplings?’ he questioned Greg who simply replied ‘seven!’ in the style of Strictly Come Dancing’s Len Goodman.
And Strictly’s Johannes Radebe blushed at the reference as he hides behind his hand while Joe food gets slammed.

Love Island’s Kem Cetinay, 25, also looked to be having a nightmare as he clasped his head and groaned.
Coronation Street’s Melissa Johns, 31, was the picture of panic as she knelt by her oven with a tense look on her face during the new trailer.
But fashion designer Patrick Grant, 49, kept cool under pressure as he flipped his food onto a plate out of a hot pan without hesitation.

‘There’s a lot at stake here,’ punned comedian Munya Chawawa, 28, as he gazed at the steaks he’d prepared for the judges.
But far from offering their celeb chefs sympathy, the trailer came to an end with Greg and John cackling with laughter.
Earlier this year Katie risked the ire of Celebrity MasterChef bosses after hinting she may have won the series before it aired.

A source previously told The Sun of Katie’s participation: ‘Katie’s really excited for people to see a different side to her – she’s actually a really good cook, and wants to show off her kitchen skills.’
‘She won’t crumble under the pressure of cooking for Gregg Wallace and John Torode, because she has to cook for five fussy kids every night!’
The 2020 series of Celebrity MasterChef was won by Irish-Iraqi broadcaster and YouTube star Riyadh Khalaf.
Celebrity MasterChef will return to BBC One this summer.

Morgan Freeman Reveals Why Lucrative Pay Checks Can Trump Script Quality in Film Choices

Morgan Freeman isn’t just scanning scripts for a golden storyline these days.
The distinguished Oscar recipient recently revealed to The New York Times that the financial offer can primarily dictate his decision to join a project, even if the script has a few hiccups.
“If somebody offers you a job, it’s very nice if they’re offering you also an exciting script, but in reality, two or three things come into play,” Freeman clarified. “What are they going to pay you? If they’re going to pay you enough, then you overlook some of the glitches in the script that happen to be there.”
That sounds reasonable enough.
However, Freeman mentioned he does voice his concerns if something within a script doesn’t resonate with him.
“Sometimes you can mention things that are in the script that don’t quite work out for you and by and large, that gets worked out,” the Oscar winner said.
At 89, Freeman has little left to prove. He’s a five-time Oscar nominee who won Best Supporting Actor for Million Dollar Baby, and he’s still adding new credits to an already lengthy résumé. His most recent movie was 2025’s Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, in which he once again played Thaddeus Bradley, a role he’s held throughout the magician franchise.
That’s one of several major franchises Freeman has been part of, along with Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy, where he played Lucius Fox.
And don’t expect him to call it quits anytime soon.
Freeman recently told The Times that he shares Clint Eastwood’s philosophy when it comes to getting older and continuing to work.
“I’m like Clint Eastwood on that: Don’t let the old man in,” Freeman told The Times about continuing to act as he nears 90 years old. “So, keep working. If you can get out of bed and don’t fall down when you do it, then you just count your blessings and keep moving. So, I’ll work as long as I can — as long as somebody says, ‘Do you want to do this part?’ ”
He’s said essentially the same thing before. In an interview with The Guardian, Freeman dismissed the idea of retirement, saying: “Sometimes the idea of retirement would float past me but, as soon as my agent says there’s a job or somebody wants you or they’ve made an offer, the whole thing just boils back into where it was yesterday: how much you’re going to pay, where we’re gonna be?”
So, yes, Freeman has a price. But as long as Hollywood keeps calling, he’ll apparently keep picking up.
