A legendary yet often overlooked piece of classic Dragon Ball art has finally received the spotlight it deserved, stepping beyond the confines of Weekly Shōnen Jump pages after an extended wait.
The confrontation between Gohan and Cell stands among the era's most memorable and adrenaline-charged battles. It set a pivotal moment within the Cell Games Saga, where Gohan pushed Cell to a state of chaos in an effort to exploit an opening for attack. However, this plan resulted in Cell leaving the battleground to pursue the remaining Z Fighters, unintentionally paving the way for the Cell Saga's conclusion.
While Dragon Ball fans won't be seeing much (or likely any) of Cell in the near future, there will be plenty of Gohan in the years to come thanks to what might be the franchise's most hotly anticipated release of the decade — Dragon Ball Super 2: Galactic Patrol. The upcoming Dragon Ball Super follow-up will adapt the hit Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga from the manga, which revolves around the hunt for and fight against Moro, an ancient, evil sorcerer who escapes from his prison and launches an interstellar crusade of vengeance and destruction.
Like Vegeta and Goku, Gohan was deputized as a member of the Galactic Patrol in the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga. Although there is no confirmed release window for Dragon Ball Super 2: Galactic Patrol as of the time of writing, fans are expecting to see it premiere sometime in late 2027 or early 2028, as production on the series is already getting underway.
