Tragedy struck in Queens as Mary Golding, a talented set designer for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” was discovered fatally stabbed in her home, as per a statement from the NYPD. The heartbreaking incident unfolded in the early hours of July 21.
At the age of 34, Golding was found with a fatal wound to her back in the basement of her Astoria residence, shortly after the clock struck midnight. The police were alerted following a distress call reporting an assault, and upon arrival, they declared her deceased on the scene, as shared with Oxygen.
Later that morning, around 6:39 a.m., officers were called to another incident where they found a man, estimated to be between 30 and 35, lying unconscious and lifeless near Astoria Park South and Shore Boulevard. The NYPD confirmed his death on site.
Though the identity of this man has not been officially released, a source within the police department informed People magazine that the deceased was Joseph Azzaretto, Golding’s husband. The couple shared an 11-month-old son, adding a layer of sorrow to the already grim narrative.
Authorities are currently exploring the possibility that these deaths might be a case of murder-suicide, according to insights from sources within the NYPD. However, this has yet to be officially confirmed as the inquiry continues without any arrests being made.
Neighbors shared insight into the couple’s relationship, describing Azzaretto as someone allegedly quick to lose his temper.
“He was an angry person,” one neighbor claimed. “I decided to avoid him. I didn’t even look at his text messages.”
Golding built a career working behind the scenes in television production, serving as a set designer on the Emmy-winning Prime Video series , The Flight Attendant, the TV series Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Hawkeye and Marry Me.
Most recently, Golding received an art department credit on the upcoming independent film Deep Cuts, which is currently in post-production.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The news comes six years after tragedy hit the family. In February 2020, Azzaretto’s brother Nicholas Azzaretto, shot and killed their father, Frank Nicholas Azzaretto, according to WFMZ.
Nicholas pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in November 2021 and received 10 years of probation, with two years of electronic monitoring, per the New York Post.
