APPLING, Ga. () – In a concerning development at North Columbia Elementary School, a former substitute paraprofessional has been accused of engaging in “inappropriate physical contact” with a student. Principal Tonya Gambrell addressed the issue in a letter to parents on Friday, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.

In the letter dated May 1, it was revealed that Mia Foster, the individual in question, has been criminally charged and is no longer employed by the Columbia County School District. The communication emphasized the district’s unwavering commitment to the safety of students and staff, stating, “Safety of students and staff is a top priority and we take incidents such as these extremely seriously. Inappropriate physical contact of any nature is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”

Adding to the gravity of the situation, this incident marks the second accusation of its kind on the same day within Columbia County. Another former staff member from North Harlem Elementary School has also been accused of similar inappropriate behavior, raising further concerns about student safety in the district.

This is the second report of a former staff member at a Columbia County elementary school being accused of inappropriate physical contact on Friday.
