Authorities took Alyssa Thompson into custody at Wee Care Too after discovering a child experiencing a critical medical situation, characterized by seizures, lethargy, and feverish symptoms.
LAKE CITY, Fla. — New revelations have emerged regarding the arrest of a daycare worker from Lake City, who now faces charges of child abuse.
First Coast News obtained an arrest report from the Lake City Police that outlines accusations against 30-year-old Alyssa Thompson.
The report details how officers were dispatched to Wee Care Too approximately two weeks ago in response to a child undergoing a severe medical episode, including seizures and signs of lethargy with high fever.
During the police presence, the child suffered another seizure and was immediately transported to the hospital for urgent care.
Lake City Police reports the day care director looked at surveillance video of the infant room after the incident and found some “inappropriate behavior” by Thompson.
Lake City Police says the video shows Thompson toss a child forcefully into a bouncy chair, hitting its head on the metal bar of the chair.
Police say the video shows 20 minutes later, Thompson grabbed a child from the crib and dropped them on the changing table from a height that caused its head to bounce several times.
When she picked the child off the table, she found it was limp and not moving, so she ran for help.
Lake City Police reviewed another video from a week prior the agency says shows Thompson tossing children onto changing tables, causing their heads to bounce off the railing, shaking a child hard and smacking the legs on a child.
Wee Care Too shared in a statement that the day care called the Department of Children and Family Services and the police after they became aware of the situation.
The daycare said Thompson was only hired three months prior after it performed a background check and received a strong recommendation from her previous employer. The daycare says Thompson is no longer employed there.
Wee Care Too went on to say “These are not just students to us. They are children we know, children we pray over and children we are committed to protecting and nurturing with everything we have.”
According to Lake City Police, as of Monday, the child was still in the hospital, two full weeks after incident.
