Helicopter crew lifts injured hiker to safety after fall on mountain in Australia
Footage has surfaced showing a rescue helicopter in action at Moogerah Peaks National Park, located in southeast Queensland, Australia. The emergency response was triggered when a woman in her 20s suffered an ankle injury during a fall, leaving her unable to descend the mountain on her own. The helicopter was deployed to the scene, and paramedics were lowered by winch to administer aid and facilitate the evacuation of two individuals from the area.
In a separate incident, the body of a missing hiker was found on Wednesday in a national park in Montana. Authorities suspect that a bear attack led to the hiker’s death.
The remains were located about 2.5 miles along the Mt. Brown Trail in Glacier National Park by search-and-rescue teams around midday, according to a statement from the park. The hiker’s identity has not been disclosed.
Officials reported that the injuries observed on the body are indicative of a bear encounter. The remains were discovered approximately 50 feet off the trail in a thickly wooded area cluttered with fallen timber.
Park authorities have indicated that wildlife and law enforcement teams are currently evaluating the vicinity for any signs of bear activity and to address potential safety risks to the public.
The area remains closed as authorities continue to investigate the apparent mauling.

The last known message from the hiker was sent around 8:30 p.m. Sunday after he “had communicated plans to hike toward the Mt. Brown Fire Lookout,” officials said. He was subsequently reported missing on Monday.Â
The incident is the park’s first deadly bear attack since 1998, authorities said, noting the last time an individual was injured by a bear in Glacier National Park was August 2025.Â

The park is home to around 1,000 black bears and grizzlies, with park officials estimating that about 300 grizzly bears were inhabiting the area in 2023.Â
The fatality comes after two hikers, ages 15 and 28, were seriously injured in a bear attack in Yellowstone National Park on Monday, according to park officials.

The pair of hikers was airlifted by helicopter after an incident in which “park staff believe a female grizzly bear with two or three cubs-of-the-year (cubs in their first year of life) were involved in the encounter,” Yellowstone National Park said.Â
