Alex Murdaugh’s Defense Pushes for Retrial Amid Allegations of Jury Tampering

0

Alex Murdaugh’s murder case will return to court this Monday morning, following the controversy surrounding the court clerk’s actions that led to his convictions being overturned. Now, one of the nation’s most infamous defendants has a chance at a retrial.

The fallen South Carolina lawyer, initially found guilty of killing his wife and son in 2021 before those verdicts were dismissed, is anticipated to be present at a 10 a.m. session in Lexington County, South Carolina, for a hearing focused on status and scheduling matters.

This will be Murdaugh’s first court appearance concerning his possible retrial, following his sentencing in March 2023 for extensive financial crimes.

The proceedings are not anticipated to delve into the horrific details of the murders of his wife, Maggie, 52, and their son, Paul, 22, who were discovered shot dead near the kennels at the family’s Moselle hunting estate in June 2021.

Instead, the proceeding is expected to focus on scheduling, discovery and other procedural matters as prosecutors and defense attorneys begin mapping out what could become Murdaugh’s second murder trial.

But criminal defense attorney and Fox News contributor Donna Rotunno told News Media that even a procedural hearing could reveal the first major fault lines in the next phase of the case: where the trial will be held and how fast the state can bring Murdaugh back before a jury.

“I think the main thing we’re going to learn is whether or not there’s going to be a change in venue and what the trial dates are looking like,” Rotunno said.

Murdaugh’s defense team has pushed for a venue change out of the circuit, arguing that the legal circus surrounding the case and the misconduct allegations tied to the original trial make it impossible for him to get a fair retrial.

Venue changes are typically a steep climb, Rotunno said, because courts often find that wall-to-wall publicity follows a notorious defendant no matter where the case is moved.

“A change of venue is always a difficult task because the court’s position is, no matter where you live, you know about this,” she said. “You can read about it. You can watch these trials when they’re televised. So a lot of times courts will say it doesn’t matter if we change the venue.”

But Murdaugh’s case, she said, is different.

His murder convictions were overturned after the South Carolina Supreme Court found improper comments by former Colleton County Clerk of Court Rebecca “Becky” Hill, whose conduct became the basis for Murdaugh’s bid for a new trial.

“I think in this situation, it’s a little bit different, given the fact that you had a clerk in that county basically cause the whole reason we’re having a new trial,” Rotunno said. “So I do think, given the appearance of impropriety here, it would probably behoove the court to make the decision for the change of venue.”

Rotunno said keeping the case in the same county could create problems down the line if Murdaugh were convicted again.

“I think if you’re looking at the thought of appeals down the line, if he were to lose in that same county, you may open yourself up to more scrutiny,” she said.

Murdaugh, once a powerful Lowcountry lawyer from a prominent legal dynasty, was convicted in March 2023 of gunning down Maggie and Paul. Prosecutors argued at trial that Murdaugh killed them to gain sympathy and distract from a collapsing web of financial crimes, stolen client money and lies.

The case was thrown back into turmoil after allegations surfaced that Hill made improper comments to jurors during the trial. Murdaugh’s defense argued she tampered with the jury to secure a guilty verdict and boost publicity for a book.

The court found that Hill was drawn by the “siren call of celebrity” and allowed public attention to overcome her duty. Hill co-authored a book about the proceedings, “Behind the Doors of Justice: The Murdaugh Murders,” which the lawsuit says earned roughly $100,000 before being withdrawn amid plagiarism allegations.

In December 2025 Hill pleaded guilty to four charges: obstruction of justice and perjury for showing a reporter photographs that were sealed court exhibits and then lying about it, plus two counts of misconduct in office for taking bonuses and promoting a book she wrote on the trial through her public office.

The state has maintained that Murdaugh received a fair trial, but the South Carolina Supreme Court reversed the murder and weapons convictions and remanded the case for new proceedings.

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has indicated he hopes to try the case by the end of the year, previously telling News Media that he plans to try it “as quickly and expeditiously as possible.”

“Look, I’m being aspirational when I say this, but we would like to try to get this case up before January 2027. That would be our goal,” he said.

“I think that might be a little overzealous,” Rottuno said.

She said the timeline will ultimately depend on the judge and whether Murdaugh’s defense team says it can be ready.

“I know that they’re definitely exploring a lot of new defense options here, so they may want a little bit more time than that,” Rotunno said. “End of the year is only six months away, and you’re talking about holidays. I don’t see that.”

Murdaugh’s attorneys have already previewed some of the issues they want to raise before any retrial, including a motion to test unknown male DNA reportedly found under Maggie’s fingernails.

His defense team also filed a motion to have Murdaugh remain unshackled, but withdrew the motion after prosecutors fired back that the disgraced lawyer “thinks he’s special.”

“Murdaugh is not just a pre-trial detainee; he is an inmate serving a very long sentence,” the state wrote.

Prosecutors also argued that Murdaugh should not receive different treatment “simply because the crimes he allegedly committed have received media attention.”

His attorneys fired back that the state’s opposition was “without merit,” accused prosecutors of “histrionics” and argued that televised pretrial proceedings could still prejudice prospective jurors if Murdaugh is displayed in shackles.

The defense later withdrew the motion, saying Murdaugh did not want to create a distraction before the status conference and wanted the court to focus on issues more central to his defense.

“If the State wants to use that for a public spectacle, so be it,” the defense wrote. “Mr. Murdaugh will not waste the Court’s time at the upcoming status conference arguing about the optics.”

Courteney Cox Opens Up About Missteps That Led to Relationship Breakup

0

Courteney Cox once confessed to making ‘mistakes’ that led to her initial breakup with Johnny McDaid, the Snow Patrol musician. Now, it has emerged that the couple has decided to go their separate ways yet again.

According to the Mail On Sunday, the pair discreetly ended their relationship last year after spending more than ten years together. Sources have described this recent separation as ‘extremely amicable,’ underscoring the mutual respect they still hold for one another.

Courteney and Johnny’s relationship has endured its share of ups and downs since they first met in 2013. They initially split in 2015, only to reconnect a few months later. In the wake of their previous breakup, the Friends actress openly discussed the challenges they faced.

In a candid moment from 2016, Courteney revealed that she became ‘co-dependent’ on McDaid, admitting that she struggled to ‘regard love’ as he did. This openness shed light on the personal growth she underwent during their time apart.

Reflecting on their past, she mentioned, ‘We were engaged for over a year and then we broke up,’ offering insight into the complexities that love can sometimes entail.

‘He’s from Ireland. And the way he regards love is precious. We have to treat it in a different way. It’s more special — you coddle it.’

Speaking on Running Wild with Bear Grylls, Courteney added: ‘I definitely made a lot of mistakes that I see — whether it’s codependency or people-pleasing. I didn’t know how to bring it in. It was always external.’

The Mail On Sunday revealed this weekend that Courteney and Johnny ended their relationship late last year.

Courteney, best known to millions for her iconic role as Monica Geller in 90s sitcom Friends, is based in Los Angeles, while Northern Ireland-born McDaid, 49, has been mostly based in London, although the couple had tended to split their time between the US and the UK.

Confirming their separation, a friend said: ‘Johnny speaks incredibly highly of Courteney. They had a very deep relationship and they remain extremely amicable. They are great friends and care about each other very much.

‘This was not an ugly split. They had simply reached a point where they were living different lives.’

Cox and McDaid, who has become one of the world’s most successful behind-the-scenes songwriters, began dating in 2013 after being introduced through mutual friends, including Ed Sheeran.

McDaid is one of Sheeran’s long-time friends and collaborators, and co-wrote some of his biggest hits, including Shape Of You, Photograph, Galway Girl, Bad Habits and Shivers.

He and Cox announced their engagement the following year and, despite briefly separating in late 2015, they reconciled in 2016 and had been together ever since.

Cox has said in interviews that she was ‘thankful’ for the breakup because it made their relationship even better. McDaid has also spoken of how ‘lucky’ he felt to be in a relationship with the actress.

The couple were seen last August on a double-date in Malibu, California, with Cox’s Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston and her rumoured boyfriend, wellness expert Jim Curtis.

They were last photographed together at the US Open in September.

Since the split, both Cox and McDaid are rumoured to have moved on with their lives.

McDaid is understood to be in the early stages of a new relationship.

Meanwhile, Cox was spotted in New York recently with her Shining Vale co-star Greg Kinnear, who stayed at her apartment. Although they play husband-and-wife in the satirical horror comedy, the pair have confirmed that they are just good friends.

She has also remained close to her ex-husband David Arquette, with whom she shares daughter Coco, and friends say the former couple have long been a strong and amicable co-parenting team.

Representatives for Cox and McDaid were contacted for comment.

NASA’s Success: How They’re Getting It Right in Essex

0

In a strategic shift showcasing NASA’s commitment to fiscal efficiency and pragmatic decision-making, the agency has enlisted private sector expertise to rescue a crucial component of its space infrastructure. This collaboration aims to significantly reduce waste and conserve taxpayer dollars.

Originally launched in 2004 with a projected operational span of just two years, the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory has surpassed expectations. For more than two decades, it has been pivotal in studying gamma-ray bursts, some of the universe’s most powerful explosions. This has greatly enhanced scientific data collection alongside other astronomical instruments.

Faced with the challenge of its decaying orbit, NASA has engaged a private company for an innovative robotic mission to extend the observatory’s operational life. The degradation of its orbit is primarily due to the persistent atmospheric drag encountered by satellites in low Earth orbit. Recent increases in solar activity have exacerbated this issue, further complicating matters.

Solar flares and storms heat and expand the thermosphere, increasing density at higher altitudes. The result is greater aerodynamic resistance, pulling spacecraft downward faster than anticipated. For Swift, this has accelerated its descent. Without intervention, it risks falling below a safe altitude later this year and reentering the atmosphere by the end of 2026.

The plan involves Katalyst Space Technologies’ LINK spacecraft, set to launch soon on a Northrop Grumman Pegasus XL. The robotic servicer will rendezvous, capture, and raise Swift’s orbit at a cost of about $30 million. This marks a notable step in on-orbit servicing, moving beyond one-off demonstrations to practical extension of valuable assets. This mission underscores a few realities worth considering.

NASA’s Swift Boost mission is set to launch on June 27, aiming to extend the life of the nearly 22-year-old Swift Observatory. As Earth’s thin upper atmosphere slowly pulls the satellite into a lower orbit, this bold mission will raise its altitude, giving the legendary space telescope more years to continue studying gamma-ray bursts, black holes, neutron stars, and the universe’s most powerful cosmic explosions.

First, space is an unforgiving environment where natural forces like solar cycles demand respect and preparation. Expanded atmospheric drag from solar maximum periods affects not just aging telescopes but the broader satellite fleet, including communications and observation platforms. Similar dynamics could threaten longer-term assets like the Hubble Space Telescope, which operates in a comparable regime and lacks built-in propulsion for easy orbit maintenance. Prudent management means anticipating these vulnerabilities rather than assuming indefinite stability.

Second, the partnership with a private company reflects an efficient approach to federal resources. Swift has already exceeded expectations many times over. Investing modestly to preserve its ongoing contributions, through commercial innovation, stretches taxpayer dollars further than building entirely new replacements. This is exactly how the federal government should operate — getting out of the way and letting private innovators do the heavy lifting.

Alachua County Woman Arrested for Deliberately Crashing Car into Vehicle with Toddler Onboard

0

Report by Staff

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – A 23-year-old woman named Anna Belle Lewis faced arrest on Wednesday under the suspicion of deliberately crashing her car into another automobile, which had a two-year-old passenger inside.

The incident came to the attention of an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy after the victim called 911, reporting that Lewis was pursuing him in a hostile manner. According to the deputy’s account, Lewis’s car could be seen “aggressively” trailing the victim’s vehicle. The deputy noted Lewis appeared to be chasing the car dangerously, almost causing another collision. Both vehicles were subsequently pulled over by the deputy at the Melrose Fire Station.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the victim had been at Lewis’s residence visiting the young child when Lewis arrived home seemingly under the influence. An argument ensued between Lewis and the victim, prompting him to feel physically threatened. In response, he gathered the child and retreated to his vehicle for safety. The victim described a harrowing scene where Lewis allegedly raced after him, overtook his vehicle, and suddenly braked in front of them. Desperate to avoid a crash, the victim veered into a fence but could not prevent Lewis’s vehicle from colliding with his.

The chase reportedly continued along County Road 219A, with Lewis in pursuit and the victim clutching the child while on the line with 911 dispatchers.

Witnesses at Lewis’s house reportedly said the victim was playing with the child when Lewis arrived and got into an argument with the victim; they said the victim grabbed the child, got into his vehicle, and left, and then Lewis got into her vehicle and chased the victim’s vehicle down the driveway. The witnesses saw the victim’s vehicle hit the fence, but they did not see what happened after the vehicles pulled out onto the roadway.

The deputy reported that the victim’s vehicle had pieces of a fence in the grill, along with damage to the rear quarter panel that corroborated the victim’s statement that his vehicle was hit by Lewis’s vehicle.

Post Miranda, Lewis reportedly said she tried to hug the child while she and the victim argued, but he picked up the child and ran to his vehicle. She said she chased him because he did not have a car seat, so she was concerned about the child’s safety.

Lewis has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated child abuse without great bodily harm for intentionally striking the victim’s vehicle, knowing a child was inside. She has no local criminal history, and Judge Joy Danne ordered her held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold her without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Tragic Incident: Tourist Fatally Attacked by Crocodile at Renowned Beach Destination

0

A serene vacation took a tragic turn when a California couple attempted to rescue a 28-year-old man from a deadly crocodile attack during their trip to a popular vacation destination in Mexico.

Jamie Yetter, her fiancé Chris Bury, and her teenage daughter were staying at the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort and Spa when they were suddenly caught in a life-and-death situation on Friday evening.

As they made their way towards the swimming pool, the family’s relaxation was shattered by the sound of terrified screams. Dropping everything, they rushed to offer assistance, determined to help in any way they could.

Initially mistaking the cries as those of someone caught in a rip current, the couple soon faced the horrifying reality: the man was being dragged into the sea by an enormous crocodile.

The victim, identified as Irving, a native of Mexico, was enjoying time with friends in this idyllic tourist town before tragically losing his life to the unexpected predator in the ocean.

The fiancé jumped into action and tried to throw out a life preserver, but Irving was in shock and was unable to reach it, ABC7 reported.

A Good Samaritan then brought a kayak to the beach and Bury jumped into the boat without paddles, attempting to reach the victim and pull him to safety.

‘There were no oars. There was really nothing at the beach at all to help,’ Bury told NBC4.

‘We were just scrambling, trying to do what we could,’ he said. ‘I was on the kayak right when he got pulled under.’

The reptile clamped down on Irving’s thigh with its massive jaws, Yetter said.

‘The size of this crocodile, I mean, his head was as long as my torso, his tail thicker than my legs. He was just turning him, taking him under,’ she told ABC7.

Despite the California family’s brave efforts, the reptile killed the 28-year-old in front of them.

His body was recovered about 12 hours later, early Saturday morning.

Unsettling video captured by local media shows the massive crocodile on the beach.

Yetter told Surfer.com that resort staff never warned them about the dangers of the water.

‘They didn’t tell anyone it was dangerous,’ Yetter explained to the outlet.

The mom said she noticed beach signs warning about jellyfish and stingrays, but did not notice an additional reference to crocodiles.

She said her family initially mistook that symbol for an iguana.

‘They didn’t tell us we shouldn’t go swimming. Even the next morning, I went down to the ocean. I assumed the beach would be closed,’ Yetter told the outlet.

‘The beach wasn’t closed. There were no no-swimming signs,’ she added.

The crocodile is said to have been captured by police, and by Saturday morning, beachgoers had already returned to the same stretch of shoreline, with families once again swimming in the water.

It happened near Jalisco, where two Colorado tourists were injured in a separate incident in 2022.

The Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort and Spa has not commented on the latest attack.

Tucker Carlson Criticizes Trump in Profane Rant Over Iran Threats

0

Tucker Carlson had an expletive-filled kiss off to Donald Trump as he continues to burn bridges within the White House over the Iran War. The former Fox News anchor has been one of the most public critics from the right of Trump's foreign policy, coming to a head with the strikes on Tehran. Carlson, appearing on the Jack Neel Podcast, accused Trump of feigning strength by using empty threats against Iran as the war continued on. 'He tried to posture his way out of it,' Carlson said of the President after the initial killing of Ayatollah Khomeini didn't force Iran's surrender. 'And and after like the 400th Truth Social, they reached the same conclusion that everyone on the globe reached, which is this guy's not strong, he's weak,' Carlson said. 'Strong people don't brag about how strong they are. They just punch you in the face and end the conversation.' He then compared Trump to a boxer who was all talk and taunting but 'you don't have to worry about' when they make threats, before sending him a blunt message. 'Shut up, [expletive]. I don't take you seriously. I'm not being mean but like, come on,' Carlson said of Trump.

In a recent appearance on the Jack Neel Podcast, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson directed sharp criticism at Donald Trump, intensifying his ongoing estrangement from the White House over its handling of the Iran conflict. Known for his outspoken views, Carlson accused Trump of projecting false bravado with his threats against Iran amid escalating tensions. Reflecting on the President’s strategy following the initial strike on Ayatollah Khomeini, Carlson remarked, “He tried to posture his way out of it,” highlighting Iran’s resistance. Carlson argued that after numerous Truth Social posts, the global consensus was that Trump appeared weak, stating, “Strong people don’t brag about their strength; they act decisively.” Drawing an analogy, Carlson compared Trump to a boastful, non-threatening boxer before bluntly advising, “Shut up, [expletive]. I don’t take you seriously. I’m not being mean, but come on.”

Carlson grieves Trump’s Middle East decisions

Despite his harsh criticism regarding the war, Carlson expressed his personal fondness for Trump. “I don’t hate Trump. I’ve always liked Trump. I just enjoy crude humor and am easily amused,” shared Carlson. He acknowledged liking many people, noticeably remarking that Trump isn’t the most disagreeable person he knows. However, Carlson conveyed heartfelt concern over the impact of Trump’s decisions in the Middle East on the nation. Despite having stood firmly behind Trump, including speaking at a rally in Madison Square Garden to support his 2024 presidential bid, Carlson’s support appears to have waned since the outbreak of conflict.

Carlson questions Trump’s spiritual standing

In an April 15 episode of his Tucker Carlson Show, Carlson, whose independent podcast has garnered a significant audience, unleashed a biblical critique of Trump. “Here’s a leader who mocks his ancestors’ deities and elevates himself above them,” Carlson stated, contemplating, “Could this be the Antichrist? Well, who knows?” In a surprising move, Carlson issued a contrite apology to his listeners for having previously endorsed Trump. “I believe this is a moment to reflect on our own consciences,” he conveyed, adding a note of regret for unintentionally misleading others.

Trump blasts critics as son resigns

Carlson’s reflections resonated with a sense of lasting remorse. “We’ll be tormented by it for a long time,” he said, his furrowed brow underscoring the sincerity of his message. “I will be,” he confessed, expressing his apologies for any previous misinformation. Meanwhile, Carlson’s son, Buckley, 29, vacated his role as JD Vance’s deputy press secretary, though the White House stated this move was pre-arranged. In response to the burgeoning criticism from Carlson and others, Trump retaliated on Truth Social, accusing his detractors—including Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones—of “Low IQs.”

Carlson fallout fuels conservative backlash

Carlson’s abrupt disengagement from Trump has further fueled the ongoing discord within conservative circles. Jeremy Boreing, co-founder of the Daily Wire and a prominent figure in conservative media, remarked to the Daily Mail, “We already know what Tucker thinks of Trump. He told his colleagues he hated him ‘passionately,’ yet still supported him and assisted the administration.” Boreing suggested that Carlson now seeks to spin his regret into a narrative. Boreing’s comments alluded to a leaked 2021 message Carlson sent to a Fox News colleague, expressing his strong dislike for Trump and skepticism about Trump’s potential benefits. The Daily Mail has reached out to the White House for their response on the matter.

World Cup Group Stage Unveils Unexpected Turns: From Cape Verde’s Impact to Strategic Drink Breaks

0

As the curtain falls on the 2026 World Cup’s group stage, the footballing world is left buzzing with exhilarating moments, landmark achievements, and heart-wrenching departures.

It all kicked off with a jaw-dropping match between Mexico and South Africa, which featured three red cards and closed with a gripping stalemate between Austria and Algeria. This set the stage for Iran’s pivotal participation in the tournament, co-hosted by the US, marked by a geopolitical edge.

The group stage was brimming with unforgettable highlights. Fans witnessed unlikely contenders rise to the occasion and football icons demonstrating their prowess. Additionally, this year’s tournament shattered records, with more goals being scored in the group stage than in any previous World Cup.

However, the World Cup is as much about glory as it is about heartache. Numerous formidable teams faced unexpected early exits, and some of football’s revered stars bowed out quietly, leaving only the faintest trace of their once-promising journeys.

If the sheer intensity of events has you feeling overwhelmed, let’s revisit the most astonishing twists and defeats that have defined the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage.

Surprises

Cape Verde

Where else to start except for Cape Verde?

The World Cup’s great underdog squad started with a surprise draw against one of the tournament’s favourites, Spain, finishing the match with a 0-0 draw.

After also holding both Uruguay and Saudi Arabia to a draw, Cape Verde became the smallest country to ever reach the second phase of the World Cup.

They’re also the first World Cup debutant nation to reach the knockout phase in 20 years and the third-smallest qualifier in the tournament’s history.

Messi

It might be a bit of a surprise to see the name of one of the world’s greatest athletes in a list of ‘surprises’, but Lionel Messi keeps on shocking the world, even at 39.

Now three games into the tournament, the Argentinian superstar has already scored six goals, including a hat-trick in his first match.

Having now notched up 19 goals across six World Cups, Messi has become the tournament’s all-time top scorer, well above retired German striker Miroslav Klose with 16.

Messi, however, is not the only star that shone during the group stage, with younger players such as Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé and Vinícius Júnior each scoring four goals for their respective nations.

While all of those players are renowned, some of their group stage achievements flew in the face of naysayers.

While Dembélé was a world champion in 2018, he had not scored a World Cup goal in his two previous tournaments in 2018 and 2022 and a total of 11 matches at the finals, prompting some to question his ability to deliver on the big stage for the French national team.

However, his hat-trick within the space of 25 minutes in the France v Norway match quickly put some of those doubts to rest.

‘Bafana Bafana’

South Africa started the tournament badly, losing 2-0 to hosts Mexico and finishing the match with nine players after two red cards.

Mexico also finished the match down a player, with César Montes sent off in stoppage time.

With South Korea and Czechia also in Group A, many believed South Africa was the group’s least likely team to advance to the next round, but the ‘Bafana Bafana’ secured four points and emerged in second position.

Viral goalkeepers

In a social-media-saturated age, it’s to be expected that feted World Cup players also see their online popularity surge — and 2026 is no exception.

Cape Verdean goalkeeper Josimar José Évora Dias, known as Vozinha, who played an important role in his country’s qualification, has seen his Instagram followers soar from about 50,000 to more than 16 million.

A save from Iranian goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand in the team’s match against Belgium has also gone viral on social media.

Curaçao’s Eloy Room, who helped his team maintain a clean sheet against Ecuador, is also among the players whose social media following has skyrocketed.

Meanwhile, the celebrated group-stage performance of the Socceroos’ 22-year-old keeper Patrick Beach has seen a Melbourne beach temporarily named in his honour.

Austria’s comeback

Austria’s qualification from Group J — also featuring Argentina, Jordan and Algeria — was not a surprise in itself; what was surprising was how.

In minute 93, the goal they conceded from Algerian star Riyad Mahrez almost sent Austria back home, but just minutes later, Saša Kalajdžić, on as a substitute, scored the equaliser, marking one of the most dramatic games in the tournament.

Stinkers (disappointments)

Uruguay ‘get on with’ leaving the group stage

In a post-match interview after Uruguay’s 1-0 loss to Spain on Saturday — which confirmed the former’s exit from the World Cup — head coach Marcelo Bielsa lost his patience, snapping at a reporter: “Get on with it!”

It was an outburst that capped off a disappointing World Cup campaign for his side.

Uruguay, who were widely predicted to advance from Group H, drew with Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde and lost to Spain, finishing third in their group with only two points.

By FIFA rankings, they are so far the highest-ranked team to be eliminated from the tournament.

Türkiye

After qualifying for the World Cup for the first time since 2002, and with a squad featuring stars from some of the world’s top clubs, many pundits and fans expected Türkiye to advance from their group, which also featured Australia, the USA, and Paraguay.

However, things didn’t go as expected for the Crescent-Stars, who lost their first two matches — first to the Socceroos and then to Paraguay.

While they beat the USA in their last group-stage match, it wasn’t enough to qualify for the round of 32.

Portugal and (maybe) Ronaldo

Starting the tournament as one of the main contenders, Portugal has failed to live up to expectations — two draws against Congo DR and Colombia and a routine win over Uzbekistan have left them looking well short of front-runner position.

The team did not qualify as first in their group and superstar Cristiano Ronaldo — whose performance so far has been unfavourably contrasted to the stellar showing of Messi — has so far only managed to score two goals in the tournament.

South Korea

South Korea has a proud World Cup record, appearing at the tournament 16 times, with this year’s World Cup their 11th consecutive appearance.

They co-hosted the World Cup in 2002 with Japan, and under Dutch coach Guus Hiddink (a name familiar to Australian fans — he took the Socceroos to the 2006 World Cup), South Korea achieved their best-ever result. They made the semi-finals, where they lost to Germany.

In the Qatar 2022 World Cup, South Korea made the Round of 16 and in qualifying for this tournament, easily topped their group.

With superstar Son Heung-min in their side, the Koreans were very hopeful of a good showing. But 1-0 losses to both Mexico and South Africa, followed by a 2-1 win over Czechia, meant they finished third in their group on three points. Their results weren’t enough for them to progress to the Round of 32 as one of the eight best third-placed teams.

South Korean’s president has reportedly said he is “baffled” by the team’s showing and has called for the country’s sports ministry to investigate.

Hydration breaks

The disappointments of this tournament have seemingly gone beyond teams and players.

Just before the World Cup began, FIFA introduced a three-minute pause midway through each half for players to drink water and cool down, saying the breaks would help protect players’ health.

However, fans, pundits and some players were quick to criticise the new feature.

Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk is among the critics, saying the breaks are “not great” for TV viewers.

“If it’s really hot, obviously, it would be good to put them in. But I think you have to look at it in every game, separately, in my opinion,” he said.

RHORI Reunion Drama: Jo-Ellen Exposes Brian’s Suspected Divorce Secrets, Challenges Rulla’s Marriage Timing, and Alicia Gains Half of Pizza Mama

RHORI Reunion Recap: Rulla's Marriage Timeline Gets Questioned by Jo-Ellen; Alicia Gets More of Pizza Mama and Talks Wedding; Plus, Brian Gets Grilled About his Affair and Dodges Questions Due to Legal Restraints and Rulla Shares She is Traumatized After Being Tracked by Brian

Jo-Ellen is determined to showcase her detective prowess and clear her name from accusations of dishonesty. In the explosive second part of The Real Housewives of Rhode Island reunion, the tension mounts as the husbands, boyfriends, and fiancés join the chaotic fray. Questions swirl around the exact timeline of Rulla‘s husband’s extramarital affair, and Jo-Ellen is ready to provide answers, refusing to be silenced.

Tensions escalate between Rulla and Jo-Ellen, with Rulla accusing Jo-Ellen of having inappropriate relationships with doctors, branding her as promiscuous. Interestingly, Rulla doesn’t extend the same label to her own husband, despite his infidelities. Meanwhile, Liz ponders Jo-Ellen’s motives for revealing details of Brian’s affair, while Rulla insists that everyone on the platform already knows Jo-Ellen’s relationship issues. Jo-Ellen quips that Rulla’s personality seems to have transformed along with her new nose.

On another front, Rosie is eager to inform everyone that her expansive 5,000 square foot home is on track for completion by mid-July, addressing any curiosity from Kelsey. Although Rosie initially considers leaving the stage to retrieve her binder of evidence to dispute Kelsey’s rumors, she stays put to clarify her recent absence due to a medical leave for colitis.

However, Kelsey casts doubt on Rosie’s reasoning, suggesting that her departure from work was due to an inappropriate relationship with a senior colleague. Kelsey insinuates that Rosie’s exit wasn’t as tidy as claimed, hinting at an incident at her workplace. Rosie counters by reminding Kelsey that she has all the necessary evidence in her trusty “briefcase” of truths.

Alicia refers to her fiance Billy as a “stalker”- that is how he won her over, after all.  There is no wedding date set, but she IS actually talking about a wedding.  Perhaps they will go to Greece cuz “Momma Mia, that whole vibe.” Billy is still doing all the driving, but Alicia can handle any driving up to 20 minutes.  She goes on to share that she is working on making her own cracker and does almonds and Jane’s Fonda to remain so svelte.

Regarding Pizza Mama, Alicia is getting some of it, like the merch, but she remains unclear on what the details are. Rulla is the only one on the cast who has a prenup and Alicia explains that she is in a trust, but her name is still not on the house. Alicia also shares that she gets bored when Billy talks about finances.

Rosie is 50/50 on the house with her husband, but Kelsey found out Rosie’s mortgage information and she points out that Rosie has two mortgages out on her home.  Rosie is aghast- one is the regular mortgage and one is the construction loan- and she apologizes to Kelsey because evidently she is just going to keep coming for Rosie. Kelsey points out that they have both been mean girls.

The guys are busy waiting in the husbands’ lounge and they laugh about all the fights, including the slam pig one at the coffee shop. At least they can find humor in it.

“It’s not a rumor, the doctors removed that tumor.” After being hit by a drunk driver, a CAT scan showed that Kelsey had a tumor.  She put off brain surgery so she could compete in a beauty pageant and it is such a wild life story. Kelsey makes it clear that she’s “never sold any of my holes for money” and denies that she has ever been an escort, despite circulating photos. Kelsey believes that there was an escort in Boston who was trying to mess with her by using her pictures for an escort service.

Kelsey clarifies that there was no agreement with her ex, but knew he was seeing other people. It became a free for all and Kelsey admits she was jealous until she had an understanding and agreement to keep things out of sight, out of mind.

We learn that at one point, her ex used to date Paula Abdul and that she met her ex at a tanning salon (the one Jo-Ellen worked at).  Kelsey’s ex orginally agreed to be on the show, but then changed his mind because he watches Housewives and did not want to be talked about by the ladies. Ironic that he is STILL the topic of so many convos…

Currently, Kelsey is living with boyfriend, Bill, and her sugar daddy has since cut off her bills.  Bill pays for her car and she pays for her health insurance.  Baby steps.

As of today, Rulla and Brian are apparently doing a lot better now.  The women all truly believed that Rulla had a stress-induced illness right before the girls’ trip. Rulla was at the hospital twice and explains that what was going on in her marriage was stressful.  Rulla discounted everything Jo-Ellen was telling her all summer about the affair and just wants people to respect how she wanted to deal with things.

Rulla is unclear why Brian was tracking her car and Jo-Ellen points out that Brian told the mistress he was tracking Rulla to know if she was onto them.  Rulla thinks that Brian was trying to keep the mistress at bay white it all fizzled out, but that sounds like a stretch.

Rulla denies having an affair with Brian because Brian was divorced in 2010ish (the dates are iffy). Jo-Ellen reminds Rulla that Brian was divorced in 2016 and she wonders if Rulla and Brian are even married because Rulla can’t answer when her anniversary is. When Rulla got pregnant, Brian was still legally married, according to Jo-Ellen.

Rulla claims they have been married for 10 years, but Jo-Ellen then calls Brian a polygamous because he was married to someone else if that is the case. Jo-Ellen explains that Rulla got pregnant before Brian was even divorced and whips out court documents. Andy reminds Rulla that Brian has lied to her before so perhaps he was not being truthful with Rulla about his timeline…

The husbands, boyfriends, and fiances join the stage.  Jo-Ellen’s husband Gary states he would not donate his sperm to Jo-Ellen’s sister, but he did touch her boobs in 7th grade. Kelsey claims that life is just getting exciting now and feels like whenever she says go, Bill will drop.

When it comes to Dino, there was no torrid affair. When Liz and Jerry were separated, Jerry confirms that Brian, DID tell him that Liz was with another man.  Liz claims that this was her objective during that time and that she wanted it to get back to Jerry, so thanks Brian?

Alicia’s fiance, Billy, wishes he handled the prenup differently and admits he created a one-sided agreement. Bill’s savvier than the average pizza guy, as he used to be an attorney, which would explain why he knows the lingo about the finances. Billy then whips out an agreement for up to 50% of Pizza Mama share IF Alicia drives their daughter to dance a few times a week. It’s a big deal!

Brian claims that he is feeling great tonight (which is shocking considering he went onto a reality show while having an affair). He does not comment on this stuff as he is “bound by a non-disclosure agreement,” which is very unclear, even after Rulla attempts to explain it and Jo-Ellen tries to fill in the blanks.

The polo match theory that Brian’s mom was not sick and the call came from the mistress is simply not true, according to Brian. Jo-Ellen is desperately trying to show Rulla the type of person Brian is and blurts out, “Brian said your butt smells like garlic, just so you know”-WTF Jo-Ellen.  Brian gets caught in a lie about taking his ring off and Jo-Ellen jumps right into her receipts.

Jo-Ellen is like obsessed with this affair, so much so that she brings up how Brian bought a Chanel bag for his mistress AND had serial numbers + receipts. A while back, Gary actually ran into Brian and the mistress, who introduced Brian as her boyfriend. Regarding the timeline of Brian’s divorce before Rulla, Brian plays it off and shares that he was divorced in September 2012. What exactly is Jo-Ellen’s point?  She is desperately trying to prove she is not a liar and wants the truth to be out.

Rulla explains she came onto the show because she thought the affair was over, but Jo-Ellen wants Brian to own that the affair is still on-going.  The ladies remind Rulla that this is not her fault, but Jo-Ellen wants Brian to tell Rulla this affair just ended so Jo-Ellen can stop bringing it up.  Brian sneaks out of it, claiming that because of non-disclosure, he can’t talk about it.  He states that he has not seen his partner since October of last year, which comes as a shock to Rulla.

Rulla claims she did not know that Brian was responsible for putting a tracking device on her car, but because the case has been dismissed, according to Brian, he can’t talk about it.  The state initiated a no-contact order which made Brian realize how much he wanted to be with Rulla, but hello! It’s not okay to put a tracker on someone’s car! Rulla is traumatized and explains that Brian needs to earn his trust back into her life.

Brian states that Rulla is the glue that holds the family together, and so he wants to be a better person.  Rulla makes it clear that this is Brian’s last chance and Ashley leans over to tell Rulla she is better than Brian. When the men leave the set, Brian slinks off after being completely annihilated.

Rulla states that Brian is an idiot and his mistress is crazy and there is so much that needs to be uncovered about people and their characters…but that’s for another season. Liz looks bored out of her skull as the reunion wraps and Ashley shares that she wishes she was less nervous and more vocal. Rosie realizes she should not have asked Kelsey if she was a polygamous and Kelsey would like Rosie to be an authentic friend off the show first. Rulla wishes she shut things down about her life sooner and Jo-Ellen wishes she addressed the situation with Rulla a little more privately.  Liz wishes she could control, react, police, and care less and Alicia wishes she wore more makeup to cover the scar on her face. LOL.

Before the traditional toast, Liz presents a mask to Andy, the King of Rhode Island. The seeds of the lemon have not been picked out for Kelsey, but Alicia leads a toast that ends with thanking Andy for believing in them. Cheers to Rhode Island and all the dysfunction!
