From Saved to Savior: How a Hero Detective Inspired a Life-Saving Career in the NYPD

0

Christian Leon’s inspiration to don the NYPD uniform stemmed from an extraordinary encounter in 2021. The harrowing event occurred when an off-duty detective, whom he would later aspire to emulate, came to his rescue from a burning car, marking a pivotal moment that influenced his career path.

Just this past Wednesday, the 24-year-old Leon celebrated his graduation from the police academy. This milestone came less than five years after the life-altering evening on November 18, 2021, when Detective James Fares sprang into action as smoke started to billow from Leon’s vehicle on the Grand Central Parkway.

During the chaos, Leon noticed Fares’ identity as a detective by the distinctive shield he carried. However, it wasn’t until a Gun & Shield Day ceremony, organized by the department, that he finally learned the name of the man who had intervened in his hour of need.

Reflecting on that fateful encounter, Leon expressed deep gratitude, telling The Post, “I’m almost speechless to a certain point, because I only get to say thank you, because… he just saved my life, and it’s been like four years later. So I’m really happy he’s here with me, and I’m gonna pay it back by being of help and service to others and the community.”

At the time of the crash, Leon, a native of Corona, Queens, was pursuing pre-med studies. Yet Detective Fares’ selflessness prompted him to reconsider his future ambitions. Inspired by the heroism he witnessed, Leon chose to serve his community by following in the footsteps of the detective who changed his life.

“I remember I had finals during that time for one of my bio classes. I was heading back home, and it was during rush hour, my car was stopped — no cars were moving — and all of a sudden I see a car behind me rear-ends me,” he said.

“Detective Fares…acted immediately,” the rookie cop recalled. “He took me out of the vehicle, he said everything was going to be fine. He called an ambulance, and I’m here because of him — because I needed someone to help me at the time, and now I want to help people when they need help.”

Leon was not seriously hurt in the crash — only shaken because his airbag exploded — and was checked out at the hospital.

“I hardly remember that,” he said of the impact. “But all I remember is this detective, his shield, and just stuck with me and my memory forever.”

Fares, who is assigned to the Queens Auto Crime unit, said he was driving home from work when he spotted Leon’s car veering off to the right, with smoke coming from it.

“I just pulled over as quick as I could, and ran over to make sure he was OK, and pulled him out of the car,” Fares said. “It was just instinct training [that] came together, and I’m happy that he’s here with us today, and everything’s good.”

Seeing Leon again – a day before he officially joined New York’s Finest – was a special moment for Fares.

“So I feel like the good deed is coming full circle, and it’s a very great feeling, and I’m happy that I can share this with Christian and everyone else,” said Fares, 42.

The 9-year department veteran, who grew up in Bayside and has since moved to Mineola, said he had the chance to share advice with Leon – who hopes to become a detective some day, too.

“I basically said, ‘Work hard,’” Fares said. “I said, ‘Work really hard, and do whatever you can to help people out, and I guarantee you, [at the] end of the road, you’ll get your shield.”

Leon’s journey to the NYPD, inspired by Fares, earned the attention of Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch as she addressed the sea of blue Wednesday.

“It meant the world to Christian and his family that a complete stranger would take that kind of risk to save him, and the two would remain strangers until yesterday,” the top cop told the sea of blue. “The two were reunited yesterday on Gun and Shield Day, and Christian was finally able to thank Detective Fares in person, and to tell the detective about the career choice that he had inspired.”

The newest officers to hit the streets also included Casey Kloepfer, 29, whose father, Officer Ronald Kloepfer – of ESU Truck 7 – was killed 25 years ago while attempting to rescue those trapped in the World Trade Center on 9/11.

Casey will also be taking his dad’s shield number – 22403 – which he describes as an “honor.”

The younger Kloepfer, who was only 4 years old when his father died, said the NYPD quickly became his “extended family.”

“I always picture my dad as a superhero,” Kloepfer said. “Being in ESU, he had a really cool job. So it was something that you know I always looked up to and inspired to be.”

Erica Tierney, 26, whose uncle, Officer Stephen Driscoll, assigned to ESU Truck 4, also died while rescuing victims from the World Trade Center, is set to follow in his footsteps.

“I was only one [year old] when he passed,” Tierney said. “But I meet people to this day who recognized the last name Driscoll, and they always say he had a positive impact on their lives.”

“I always grew up around officers and it was always a positive environment for me and my family,” she added. “They do a lot for the families, and it’s nice to see everyone come together.”

Tisch recognized the legacy families during the packed Wednesday ceremony.

“Thank you for your lineage of service to this city,” the commissioner said.

Riders at Georgia’s Six Flags Stranded Mid-Air Amid ‘Technical Delay

0

A breathtaking moment unfolded at Six Flags Over Georgia when passengers found themselves suspended mid-air on a ride. The startling scene was captured on video by one of the riders and subsequently shared online.

In the widely circulated footage, a bewildered rider can be heard exclaiming, “Why the heck are we stuck up here, man?”

WSB-TV identified the videographer as David Early, who mentioned that he dared to try the SkyScreamer ride once again just two days later.

The theme park described the incident as a result of a “technical delay.”

“The safety of our guests and team members is a top priority,” Six Flags Over Georgia told News Media in an email.

“The ride experienced a technical delay (similar to a check engine light) that paused its operation. Its safety system performed as designed, keeping all guests safe. Following a complete systems check, the ride was returned to its loading position and guests exited the ride,” Six Flags Over Georgia noted.

“The delay lasted approximately 10 minutes,” the message concluded.

World Cup Players Face Scandal as Escorts Uncover Controversial Demands

0

Since arriving in Los Angeles for this month’s World Cup, sleep has been a scarce luxury for Claudia.

However, it isn’t the thrilling matches that have captivated her attention in the City of Angels.

Claudia, a high-end escort hailing from London, has been enjoying her own form of success, earning upwards of $10,000 daily. She caters to wealthy, soccer-obsessed individuals who are keen to flaunt their opulence during what she describes as ‘super intense’ dates at the city’s most luxurious venues.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, Claudia reminisced about a particularly memorable evening spent in a lavish suite at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills, where rooms can cost around $12,000 per night. ‘It was wild, very beautiful, next level opulence,’ she reflected.

With a starting rate of $2,000 for a two-hour engagement that includes companionship, dinner, and intimacy, Claudia finds that the World Cup’s affluent spectators are more than willing to meet her price.

‘I like to go to a Michelin star because it’s very entertaining, they bring out the food like it’s a ritual, and you get a lot of emotions before you taste the food and that builds up to intimacy and connection.’

The clients paying her top dollar, however, are not just fans of football.

Claudia also revealed that many of her ‘flashy encounters’ in LA have been with several well-known soccer players who traveled for the games.

‘I wouldn’t say they are A-listers, but they are of significance,’ she said, adding that non-disclosure agreements bar her from revealing their nationalities or other identifying traits.

‘They’re nice, they’re tall, they’re the full package.’

Claudia, speaking candidly with the Daily Mail, asked that her real name and age be withheld because she is not legally permitted to work in the US, and because escorts have faced trouble with the law while in the States.

Lucy Huxley, a Canadian escort based in Berlin, claimed she was indefinitely banned from entering the US in 2017 after being stopped by border agents while traveling from Germany to Minnesota.

She claimed in a TikTok post that she was detained, questioned and had her phone searched. When officers discovered social media accounts where she openly discussed her sex work, she claimed she was deported.

During the games, sex workers have been caught in busts around host stadiums. Over the weekend, eight people in NJ were arrested in a prostitution sting just miles away from Metlife Stadium.

While many traveling escorts and their clients have run into legal trouble, Claudia’s experience has been very lucrative.

Since arriving in Los Angeles, Claudia’s met clients at the Chateau Marmont, Bel Air, and Waldorf Astoria hotels in Beverly Hills.

She’s also been on dates at Manuela, a farm-to-table eatery in LA’s Arts District, and Bottega Louie, an upscale Italian place in West Hollywood favored by stars such as the Kardashians, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Lopez.

While working clients in hottest spots in the city, other working girls are easy to spot.

‘Everywhere I go in LA I identify working girls because I can understand the dynamics of the relationship,’ she said.

‘People would never know that’s an escort meeting a client because not everyone looks as flashy as me. Some girls look really normal, they are brunettes with brown hair, no work done, girl next door looks.’

Most of her World Cup clients are Americans, Claudia said, adding that the fans supporting the home team are much shyer than the men she meets in Europe.

‘If they ask you to do something taboo, they are often shy about it. It’s kind of like talking to a teddy bear,’ she said.

Many of her American clients requested to be pegged after their World Cup dates.

‘A lot of them ask me to use a strap-on. I think it’s a type of relaxation for them, something they don’t normally get in their home life.’

The key to their hearts and wallets, she said, is being ‘a good companion to make them feel seen.’

Claudia recalled arriving for a Sunday date last week at a trendy LA restaurant wearing heels only to find that she towered over her wealthy four-foot-eight client.

‘It was double the work to make him feel comfortable because he wasn’t feeling comfortable,’ she said.

Her British and German clients, however, are less interested in companionship, and are much more direct.

‘They know exactly what they want,’ she said.

‘You get to spank them, you get to tell them what to do. They want to be told where to stand, what position to be in, and if they want something new they have to ask nicely for it.’

Claudia’s dates with soccer stars are ‘very sexual, less based on companionship and more on the intimacy part.’

‘I don’t think they have the time or the patience. If they really enjoy it and they want to book you again, then they start wanting to get to know you a bit more,’ Claudia said.

‘They want a lot of intimacy, maybe they have a lot of tension to release.’

Among her biggest spenders are wealthy clients from Saudi Arabia and Qatar, who she referred to as her ‘precious clients’.

‘They want total domination but they are respectful, and if you don’t provide it they don’t ask again.’

Whether it’s companionship or a quick dinner date, her hourly rate remained the same. With tips, she can make as much as $3,000 an hour.

The month-long tournament, spread across the US, Mexico and Canada, has attracted a host of celebrities and billionaires and created what some in the sex trade view as a golden opportunity to cash in.

An estimated 9,000 European sex workers traveled to North America for the tournament, according to a survey by adult platform Erobella.

Another 22,000 said they were considering making the trip. Nearly half of those were heading to Los Angeles, with the rest split between New York and Dallas or following games from city to city.

The demand is so great for high-end models that some agencies are openly marketing football-themed services.

One company, GFEBox, advertises itself as a ‘premium companionship agency’ for wealthy football fans, offering overnight stays, weekend bookings and travel companions across New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas and Washington, DC, from $2,500 a day.

On escort directory sites, escorts have begun adding football emojis to their profiles and advertising availability around match dates in host cities.

While prestige escorts have enjoyed a windfall, not everyone in the industry is celebrating.

One New York-based escort told the Daily Mail that her business had actually slowed during the tournament.

She said soaring hotel prices, flights and ticket costs meant that fans had little discretionary spending power left.

‘Fans are already getting royally f***ed by the ticket prices,’ she said.

Enhance Core Strength Over 60: Achieve Top-Tier Stability with This Plank Duration

0

The humble plank is a formidable test of your body’s overall stability.

>

If enhancing your core strength is on your fitness agenda, starting with planks is a great move. Though this isometric exercise appears straightforward, it’s remarkably effective for toning your core, back, glutes, and shoulders. The challenge lies in holding the position, which demands endurance and stability. However, determining the optimal duration and number of repetitions to maximize your efforts can be puzzling. To shed light on this, we consulted Bruno Pontes, an ACSM and AFAA-Certified Personal Trainer, who works with the fitness app Muscle Booster. He shares that being able to hold a plank for a certain period after the age of 60 suggests a truly “top-tier” level of core strength. Over the past eight years, Pontes has guided many on their path to fitness.

What Makes the Plank One of the Most Reliable Tests of Core Strength and Stability?

According to Pontes, for those over 60, the plank serves as an excellent benchmark for assessing core strength. This exercise evaluates whole-body stability and muscular endurance rather than merely isolating abdominal muscles.

“The plank gauges the core’s capability to stabilize and align the spine,” explains Pontes. “It necessitates collaboration among various muscle groups—abdominals, glutes, shoulders, hips, and lower back—making it a valuable indicator of overall functional fitness,” he adds.

For those 60 and up, core strength is imperative to help you preserve balance, mobility, posture, and independence as you grow older.

“This translates into everyday functions such as climbing stairs, carrying groceries, getting up from chairs, and having a strong core, which greatly reduces the risk of falls,” Pontes adds.

This 8-Minute Standing Routine Builds More Core Strength Than 30 Minutes of Crunches After 50

The Most Important Form Tips To Keep in Mind

When performing planks, Pontes stresses the importance of keeping your body completely straight from head to heels. The main goal should be on achieving proper form and posture rather than how long you’re able to hold the plank.

“Aim to keep your body as still as possible, avoid positioning your hips high in the air, and don’t let gravity pull them towards the floor either; you want to strive for something in the middle,” Pontes explains. “Engaging your core and tightening the glutes allows you to get the full benefit of the plank. Try to keep your breathing steady throughout, as holding your breath can cause your body to stiffen and add unnecessary tension.”

Is Doing Planks Every Day Enough to Get Abs?

How To Do a Forearm Plank

  1. Assume a forearm plank: Place your forearms on the ground with your elbows under your shoulders and arms parallel to your body, shoulder-width apart.
  2. Keep your body straight from head to heels.
  3. Activate your core, legs, and glutes as you hold the position.

How To Do a High Plank

  1. Place your hands under your shoulders.
  2. Press into the pads of your fingers and hug your inner arm toward your armpit.
  3. Walk your feet out to hip-width.
  4. Engage your abs, squeeze your buttocks, and pull upward through your quads.
  5. Hold the plank position with proper form.

If You Can Hold These 4 Standing Positions After 55, Your Core Strength Is Elite

Modifications

You can plank your plank holds easier by placing your knees on the mat and keeping your hips straight. This modification takes away the weight of your legs and reduces lower-back pressure. According to Pontes, wall planks are typically easier, since they eliminate the effect of gravity and place less strain on the body. Keep in mind that the further away from the wall you position your feet, the more challenging the plank becomes.

“For the majority of over-60s, forearm planks are usually seen as the best option for planking as they place less strain on your wrists and shoulders, making them a more accessible option for those with arthritis, compared to straight-arm planks,” Pontes explains. “Straight-arm planks can still be a great option for those over 60 who still have good mobility in the wrists and good upper body strength. This plank tests core stability, but may place more pressure on your shoulders, chest, and arms.”

It really comes down to personal preference when determining which plank variation you feel is most beneficial.

“As always, focusing on properly executing the plank is the most important factor, rather than focusing on which plank to choose. If you encounter any discomfort or pain when performing the exercise, please stop and speak with a medical professional before trying again,” Pontes notes.

5 Standing Core Moves That Flatten Your Stomach After 40

If You Can Hold a Plank This Long After 60, Your Core Strength Is Top-Tier

When it comes to the ideal plank hold time, recommendations vary. That said, for beginners who are looking to boost core strength, holding a plank for 15 to 20 seconds serves as an excellent starting point. For those 60+, holding your plank for more than 30 seconds is a stellar benchmark. Now, for individuals over 60 who can hold a plank for 60 to 90 seconds with proper form, this reveals “exceptional” spinal alignment and core strength, Pontes says.

“However, it is important to remember to focus on correct execution rather than just holding a plank for as long as possible. These times are great benchmarks as they allow the plank to measure muscular endurance rather than a measure of maximum strength. Anything above what’s recommended is likely to cause more harm than good, as the hips are more likely to sag, in turn disengaging the core, making the exercise ineffective,” he adds.

Colin Farrell’s Sassy Comeback to Joy Behar’s Bold Claim: “The Grim Reaper is Coming for You Too

0

Think of Colin Farrell as your ultimate guide to embracing life’s changes.

During a recent episode of The View, Joy Behar inquired about the actor’s thoughts on turning 50 and how he perceives the process of aging.

Farrell responded enthusiastically, saying, “I love getting older. In your teens, 20s, and 30s, you’re always searching for your identity, trying to figure out your place in the world, questioning the meaning of life and your worthiness. But as you age, those uncertainties start to dissipate.”

He also touched on the universal fear of death, noting, “It’s something we all worry about.”

To emphasize his point, he remarked, “It’s been said a thousand times before—death is the one thing we all inevitably face.”

That’s when Behar interrupted with, “Not me. I’m not going. I am telling you, I’m not going!”

Farrell burst Behar’s bubble by teasing, “I hope it’s a long time away. But that Grim Reaper is coming for you, as well, sister!”

The co-hosts had a good laugh before Behar exclaimed, “But, not today!”

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin reassured Behar by repeating her claim, “Not today.”

Farrell went on to elaborate, “It shouldn’t be this big, fearsome thing. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not okay with it… I love getting older, but I’d love to tip the brakes a little bit. It all seems to be going too fast. But as you said, just enjoy the moment, enjoy the day, try and have a bit of gratitude. Nature is always around, human beings are making a mess of things. But nature is honest and always there, and all that kind of jazz. I love being 50.”

Well said, Colin.

South Carolina Trainer’s Eerie Instagram Hints Surface Weeks Before Tragic Discovery

0

Three weeks prior to her tragic disappearance, a fitness trainer from South Carolina, Elena Katherine Moore, left baffling comments on social media. Her mysterious online activity has since drawn attention following the discovery of her body.

A week after her disappearance on June 11, Moore was found dead. According to a statement from the Lexington County Coroner’s Office, a comprehensive forensic autopsy did not reveal any signs of external trauma, including bruising, lacerations, or injuries typically associated with foul play such as gunshot wounds or strangulation.

The exact cause of Moore’s death remains undetermined, pending further testing and a thorough examination of her medical history.

In the weeks leading up to this tragedy, a closer look at one of her Instagram accounts shows that Moore had made several intriguing comments. The timing and content of these posts have left many speculating about their potential significance.

One of the comments was made under a post captioned “the war is over,” where a separate Instagram user reflected on reaching peace after a difficult relationship.

“i am finally free and safe!” Moore commented.

The fitness trainer also commented on a post that talked about the anger and resentment left behind after a painful relationship, with Moore commenting: “the memories are in the trash- and i stopped loving him a LONG time ago- i just was looking for a way out when i realized i was in a relationship with the devil.”

A spokeswoman for the Lexington Police Department confirmed to News Media that Moore was also reported missing on June 5, but no action was taken because she was located. Friends of Moore told News Media she checked herself into a psychiatric facility during that timeframe.

Moore was found dead near Old Cherokee Road and Northlake Drive in Lexington County on June 17. Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green said that her body was located after a tip led them to a new search area.

Sondra Campbell, who was close friends with Moore, told News Media that something felt “very different” the last time she saw her on May 31.

“She was scared for her life. She actually said those words to me,” Campbell said. “Elena is one of my best friends. I’ve known her over probably 10 years now. We’re really close like tell each other everything. She’s been that person for me for a long time.”

Authorities have not said whether they suspect foul play, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is handling the investigation into Moore’s death.

Ex-FBI Agent Reveals Eye-Opening Prediction About Nancy Guthrie

0

Authorities are intensifying their focus on a man captured in eerie video footage, who was seen tampering with the doorbell camera of Nancy Guthrie on the night she went missing, according to a former FBI agent.

Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of television anchor Savannah Guthrie, vanished from her home in Tucson, Arizona, valued at $1 million, during the early hours of February 1.

Despite these insights, the four-month-long investigation has yet to identify any suspects, and no arrests have been made.

Investigators had earlier released surveillance footage capturing a masked individual at Nancy’s doorstep on the night of her disappearance.

The footage revealed the man appeared armed and was seen interfering with a security camera positioned near the entrance.

Former FBI agent Maureen O’Connell claimed on a recent episode of The Megyn Kelly Show that investigators are narrowing in on that suspect, which she believes will be the key to solving the case.

‘I think they’re getting close to the porch guy, and when they get the porch guy, the floodgates shall swing open,’ O’Connell said.

She estimated that investigators are approximately 75 percent of the way there on nailing down the suspect and making an arrest.

‘I think they’re close right now to pulling this case together, and that’s what my sources are telling me. Things are happening,’ O’Connell added.

The FBI recovered Nancy’s doorbell camera footage days after she disappeared by accessing residual data stored on backend servers.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos had previously said no footage was available because Nancy did not have a subscription to Google’s video storage service, which typically keeps recorded clips in the cloud.

The black-and-white video shows a masked figure wearing gloves tampering with her camera shortly before it was disconnected at 1.47am on February 1.

In her first interview since her mother’s disappearance, Savannah told her colleague Hoda Kotb in March that the footage is ‘absolutely terrifying.’

‘I can’t imagine that is who she saw standing over her bed. I can’t,’ Savannah said.

‘I wake up every night in the middle of the night. And in the darkness, I imagine her terror. And it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought.’

On Tuesday, Savannah made another emotional plea on the Today show, begging for help in the search for her missing mother.

‘I love you guys, and I love this place, and this is unusual and unprecedented to say the least to be sitting here, but you know, I don’t have any comment on this story, and I’m not involved in our coverage,’ she told her co-stars, visibly emotional.

‘But I can’t pretend I’m not here. So, since I am, I just want to take the opportunity to ask people to really to beg people to come forward – somebody knows something.’

The Guthrie family is offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to Nancy.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that a ransom note the family received back in February claimed that the senior had died.

Two notes were sent to Nancy Guthrie’s family and local news outlets in the days after her January kidnapping.

The first demanded millions of dollars in bitcoin in exchange for her release. The second claimed the she died, according to sources cited by CBS.

In the latter message, the suspected kidnappers reportedly insisted they never intended for Guthrie to die and offered an apology to her family

Lakers’ Decision on Baylor’s Cameron Carr at NBA Draft: An In-Depth Grade

0

During the offseason, the Lakers set their sights on enhancing the depth of their team roster.

A key focus for them was to boost the team’s athletic ability.

Adding younger talent was also high on their agenda.

In a strategic move to fulfill these objectives, the Lakers picked Baylor’s wing player Cameron Carr with the 24th overall selection in the first round of the NBA draft. This choice came after they advanced in the draft order, following a trade with the New York Knicks on Tuesday night.

Carr, in his single season at Baylor in 2025-26, showcased an impressive performance by averaging 18.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.3 blocks over 34 games, following a two-year stint at Tennessee.

Before Tuesday, Carr wasn’t expected to be available for the Lakers by the time they were on the clock to draft a prospect.

Most mock drafts from major media publications projected Carr to be selected just outside of the lottery, between picks Nos. 15-20.

But he fell to the Lakers, who moved up one spot after a draft-day trade with the Knicks to acquire Carr’s draft rights.

Where Carr stands out

Carr’s 3-point shooting and athleticism are his clearest strengths that should immediately translate from college to the NBA.

He shot 37.4% from beyond the arc with the Bears last season, including over 40% on catch-and-shoot 3s, while attempting 6.1 3s per game.

And while standstill shooting is a strength, it isn’t the only time Carr is dangerous from beyond the arc: Carr is a threat spotting up, relocating, curling off of screens and even showed potential as a pull-up 3-point shooter in college.

Carr showed he knows how to leverage his threat as a 3-point shooter into easier scoring opportunties inside of the arc, where he shot 60.2%.

He thrived with attacking closeouts or cutting into open space near the rim after defenders pressed up on him too much, using his athleticism to explode for dunks.

Carr had the second-fastest lane agility time (10.46 seconds), second-highest standing vertical leap (38 inches) and third-highest max vertical leap (42 ½ inches) at the NBA combine last month. He uses his explosive athleticism and length in functional ways as a threat in the open floor and above-the-rim finisher/lob threat when he has space in front of him.

Even though he has several areas of improvements on the defensive end of the floor, Carr showed he can at least be a defensive disruptor by using his vertical pop and length (7 ¼-foot wingspan was the longest among players 6-foot-6 or shorter at the combine) to block shots.

Where Carr needs to improve

The biggest areas the 6-foot-5 Carr needs to address are his strength and frame.

He weighed 184.4 pounds at the combine, which was the lightest among all players who measured at least 6-foot-3.

Carr’s lack of strength hurts him on both ends of the floor.

He can get bumped off of his driving lanes pretty easily, making it harder for him to finish at the rim, and he can get bumped easily when trying to guard bigger guards and forwards – the types of players he’ll be expected to defend in the NBA – making it challenging for him to stay in front of his assignment.

Carr will need to get stronger and improve his physicality to be a viable point-of-attack defender at the NBA level.

His shotblocking in college showcased his use of timing and instincts in conjunction with his length and athleticism. With more consistent effort and attentiveness, those elements should show up in other areas on defense.

Offensively, he wasn’t a true creator for himself or others for a variety of reasons: The lack of strength; not having much wiggle in his handle; not reading defenses the best (though he’ll make the simple pass).

Fit/Expectations

The Lakers are as good of a fit for Carr as any NBA team since they have the playmakers, led by superstar guard Luka Doncic, who’ll create easier looks for him as he takes on a lower-usage role than he had at Baylor.

Doncic will create the spot-up 3s Carr thrived with during college, as well as connect with the uber-athletic Carr on alley-oops and cuts to the basket.

If free agents Austin Reaves and/or LeBron James return to the Lakers, there will be even more playmakers who’ll allow Carr to focus on his strengths as an off-ball scorer.

The Lakers could use more defensive proficiency on the wings, but Carr has the tools to be a positive on that end of the floor if he gets stronger and provides consistent effort.

Carr should be in the mix for a spot in the rotation at the start of the season depending on what happens with the rest of the Lakers’ offseason. At the very least, he’ll be a viable depth option.

Draft grade: B+

Carr’s lack of strength, and how that affects his upside on both ends of the floor, is the biggest swing factor for his career.

But his 3-point shooting, cutting, slashing, length and athleticism should make him an impactful player from Day 1 as he develops his body.

Drafting a player of his caliber late in the first round was great value for the Lakers even with the clear areas of improvement.
