The renowned Tall Ship Elissa set sail from Galveston, Texas, on Monday morning, embarking on a significant voyage to New York Harbor. This journey marks a global celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
The Elissa, constructed in 1877, stands as a National Historic Landmark and a well-loved symbol of Galveston’s port. As the official tall ship of Texas, it hasn’t undertaken a long journey since 1986. Following extensive refurbishments in 2014, this Texas treasure remains one of the oldest operational sailing vessels worldwide.
The Elissa is set to participate in the Sail4th celebration, commemorating America’s 250th birthday. The majestic ship will dock in New York from July 3 to 7, taking a leading role as it guides other Class A tall ships into New York Harbor on July 4 for the milestone event. Organizers describe Sail4th as featuring an unprecedented flotilla of historic ships gathered from around the world.
Before making its way back to Texas, the Elissa will join an impressive assembly of international tall and military ships in Boston Harbor. It will also make key stops in Savannah, Georgia, and Pensacola, Florida. The entire voyage is expected to span three months, organizers noted.
Organizers said that before Elissa heads back to Texas, the historic ship will join a fleet of international tall ships and military ships in a gathering in Boston Harbor. Tall Ship Elissa will also make strategic stops in Savannah, Ga., and Pensacola, Fla., organizers explained, adding that the voyage will take three months in total.
According to Sail4th organizers, the event continues a tradition of milestone maritime celebrations, including the 1976 Bicentennial and the Statue of Liberty Centennial in 1986.
SkyEye13 was over the Galveston port on Monday morning, capturing images of the Tall Ship Elissa as it began its voyage from the Gulf before travelling along the East Coast.
As the murder trial of Karmelo Anthony proceeds in Texas, jurors are gaining insights into the tragic stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf.
A pivotal piece of evidence emerged from the testimony of Elizabeth Ventura, the Chief Medical Examiner of Collin County. She revealed that Austin had suffered a severe stab wound to the heart, with the knife inflicting a “gaping” two-inch wound, as reported by Fox 7.
This case has ignited a nationwide discussion about whether Karmelo’s actions constitute lawful self-defense or murder.
Here is a detailed look into the Karmelo Anthony and Austin Metcalf case.
What Happened to Austin Metcalf?
On April 2, 2025, around 10 a.m., officers from the Frisco Police Department were called to a reported stabbing incident at a track meet held at David Kuykendall Stadium, located on the Memorial High School campus in Frisco.
An altercation between then-17-year-old Karmelo, a former student of Centennial High School, and Austin, who attended Memorial, ended when Austin was fatally stabbed, according to authorities.
Witnesses told police that students were huddled under a Memorial High School tent to avoid the rain when Austin told Karmelo to leave the reserved area, according to a probable cause affidavit previously viewed by Oxygen.
In response, Karmelo allegedly told Austin, per the probable cause, “Touch me and see what happens.”
Soon after, a fight began.
“Austin grabbed Anthony to tell him to move, and Anthony pulled out what [witness] recalled as a black knife and stabbed Austin once in the chest and then ran away,”according to witness statements obtained by Oxgygen.com, “Austin began grabbing his chest and telling everyone to get help.”
After he was stabbed, Austin fell down a set of bleachers and then got up, one witness said, per CBS News.
“He lifted up his shirt where his chest was all bloody, and he said I think I got stabbed,” a student testified. “I think he said, ‘Oh my God.’”
When police arrived, Karmelo allegedly claimed he was protecting himself, according to charging documents, and later said, “He put his hands on me.”
Then, when a school officer referred to Karmelo as the “alleged suspect,” Karmelo allegedly responded, “I’m not alleged; I did it,” according to the charging documents, “He put his hands on me. I told him not to.”
Despite life-saving efforts, Austin died from his injuries. His father, Jeff Metcalf, later told Fox News that Austin took his last breaths in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter.
Karmelo was arrested for murder and booked into the Collin County Jail on a $1 million bond. He was released 12 days later on a reduced bond and was placed under house arrest.
He pleaded not guilty, according to court records viewed by Oxygen.
“We know this case has struck a deep nerve—here in Collin County and beyond,” District Attorney Greg Willis said in June 2025. “That’s understandable. When something like this happens at a school event, it shakes people to the core.”
A spokesperson from the Frisco Independent School District did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Oxygen.
The Families of Karmelo Anthony and Austin Metcalf Speak Out
In June 2025, Karmelo’s mother, Kayla Hayes, addressed “lies and false accusations” about her family.
“Our family has been under attack,” Kayla said during a press conference. “My three younger children, my husband and I didn’t do anything to deserve to be threatened, harassed and lied about…my husband had to take a leave of absence because he’s afraid [of] what may happen to our family.”
She added, “Our son deserves the same rights under the law that everyone is afforded to. He’s been raised in a two-parent home with structure, stability, love and we put God first in everything that we do.”
Meanwhile, Austin’s father Jeff Metcalf told Fox News that Karmelo “made a bad choice” and described his son as a leader who “lit up the room.”
Jeff also forgave Karmelo.
“Forgiveness is not for him,” he said, without mentioning Karmelo’s name. “The forgiveness is for me, so I can have peace. His life is destroyed. My life is destroyed.”
Inside the Murder Trial of Karmelo Anthony
The trial began on June 1 with jury selection, and opening statements and witness testimony occurred on June 4. The core of the case centers on whether Karmelo acted in self-defense when he allegedly stabbed Austin.
Karmelo’s defense attorney, Mike Howard, did not immediately return a request for comment from Oxygen. However, according to NBC News, he said in court that his client reacted to “fear and chaos.”
“After Karmelo defended himself with that knife, he ran,” Howard said. “He didn’t stab again. He dropped the knife. He didn’t stab anyone else.”
Meanwhile, the prosecution has argued that Karmelo’s use of force was unjustified.
On June 5, prosecutors showed the jury the 5-inch folding knife allegedly used in the stabbing.
“I remember people confronting Karmelo and saying, ‘You shouldn’t be here, you probably should leave our tent,’” a student testified, according to CBS News. “I also said you should leave.”
Added another, “Austin leans in to push him and Karmelo stabs him.”
The confrontation became increasingly aggressive, according to that student, with others testifying that Karmelo was asked to leave the tent as many as 15 times, per CBS News.
In Texas, 17 year olds are considered adults, according to the Collin County District Attorney’s Office. If Karmelo is convicted, he faces a punishment of anywhere from five to 99 years, or life, in prison.
Throughout its tenure, “The Boys” was notorious for presenting unsettling scenes, and its fifth and concluding season certainly upheld this tradition. Although one might assume the actors would grow accustomed to the madness, Jensen Ackles admitted a particular scene unexpectedly rattled him.
Prime Video
In 2025, Ackles shared insights about his role as Soldier Boy at a convention, revealing a specific moment during the filming of Season 5 that unsettled him. “We rehearsed and blocked the scene,” Ackles recounted (via NME). “But once the cameras rolled, things changed. I walked in, saw it, thought ‘Dear God,’ and promptly walked back out.”
Initially, Ackles kept details about the scene under wraps. However, during a 2026 convention (via Comic Book Movie), he finally disclosed it was a scene from Season 5, episode 3, titled “Every One of You Sons of B***hes.” It featured Homelander (Antony Starr) lounging in a bathtub brimming with milk, an unsettling moment given what fans know about Homelander’s peculiar milk obsession.
Antony Starr, who plays Homelander, has previously commented on his character’s bizarre fixation with milk. This quirk has become a defining trait of the character, growing more peculiar and pronounced with each season, mirroring Homelander’s own strange evolution.
Antony Starr said he’s offered milk all the time
Jasper Savage/Prime Video
While Starr can laugh about the absurdity, Ackles found no humor in the milk bathtub scene from Season 5. Although the upcoming “Vought Rising” might promise less chaos, considering Garth Ennis’ world and its twisted inhabitants, one shouldn’t hold their breath for normalcy.
Appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to promote the final season of “The Boys,” the discussion pivoted to the topic of breast milk again, especially how it plays into Homelander’s obvious Oedipus complex and a variety of other issues. “I think there is an element of comfort,” Starr said. “Yeah, there’s a deep, deep-seated comfort that he gets from milk.” The actor added that people now offer him milk as a gag whenever they meet him. “I decline the milk,” he said, “but I acknowledge the joke.”
While Starr is able to see the funny side of it, Jensen Ackles certainly didn’t when he was caught unaware by the milk bathtub scene from “The Boys” Season 5. Maybe “Vought Rising” is less chaotic and disgusting, but knowing what we do about creator Garth Ennis’ universe and its disturbing residents, do not bet on it.
ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WJHL) – Authorities in Carter County have detained a man from Memphis, alleging his involvement in a scheme to smuggle drugs into a state prison, as detailed in a statement from the Carter County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Michael Jerome Flowers, aged 30, faced arrest on Friday after a collaborative sting operation initiated in May. This operation involved the Tennessee Department of Corrections (TDOC), the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), and the CCSO, according to the sheriff’s office release.
Flowers is facing multiple charges, including:
1 count of criminal conspiracy
1 count of bribery of a public servant
3 counts of attempted introduction of contraband into a penal facility
1 count of possession of methamphetamine for resale
1 count of possession of Schedule II drugs for resale (Fentanyl)
1 count of possession of Schedule III drugs for resale
As reported by the CCSO, the case originated in May when an inmate at the Northeast Correctional Complex allegedly attempted to corrupt a correctional officer by offering money in exchange for smuggling narcotics into the prison. The inmate reportedly contacted the officer via text message to propose the bribery.
A new monarch has emerged in Queens, and this reign comes with sweeping views all the way to the Poconos.
Introducing Sky C, the penthouse perched atop the Orchard in Long Island City, now available for a cool $13,350 per month. However, it’s not just the price that soars—this penthouse boasts the highest residential vantage point in the entire borough, offering breathtaking panoramas that stretch as far as the eye can see.
This impressive three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath residence is situated on the 70th floor of the 823-foot tower. Developed by BLDG Management, the tower commands an entire city block at Orchard Street and Jackson Avenue.
Lloyd Goldman, president of BLDG, has always been transparent about his ambitious goals.
“Our vision was to create the tallest structure,” Goldman explained, recalling the lengthy negotiations with the Federal Aviation Administration concerning flight restrictions due to seaplane routes on the East River. Achieving the tower’s final height required an exemption from the FAA, even for the construction crane used during building.
The unit is one of only five residences on the building’s Sky Collection floor, a tier reserved for what Goldman describes as a near-condominium experience in a rental package.
Ceiling heights reach 16 feet, with double-height windows framing unobstructed sightlines toward Connecticut, New Jersey and the Atlantic.
“You can see 20 to 25 miles on a clear day,” Goldman said.
Finishes throughout Sky C lean into luxury. The kitchen features Dacor appliances with panelized refrigeration, quartzite stone countertops and custom cabinetry.
Bathrooms include radiant-heated floors, heated elongated toilets and glass tile feature walls.
Even the laundry situation has been engineered for altitude. Goldman noted that unlike most Manhattan high-rises, where condenser dryers can take hours, “in this building your dryers are vented because you’re up at the top — takes a half hour to dry.”
The 70th floor also includes a private lounge with space for a dinner party of 12 to 14, a sky deck measuring roughly 20 by 40 feet and front-row views of every local celebratory display come July 4th.
“You’re going to be able to see the fireworks over the Hudson. You’re going to see them over the East River and you’re going to see them across Long Island,” Goldman said.
The Sky Collection listing is part of a broader inventory release at the Orchard that spans three distinct residential tiers.
The Terrace Collection ranges from $6,450 to $11,300, with oversized layouts and private outdoor spaces. The Premier and Penthouse Collection, spanning the tower’s upper floors below the sky level, runs from $4,870 to $12,710. Studios in the building start in the mid-$3,000s.
Goldman said the building’s location, just over the Queensborough Bridge from Midtown, is a central part of the pitch to prospective renters.
“If you work at Bloomberg or you work at Blackstone … basically from Grand Central to the Plaza District, you’re one or two stops from this building,” he said.
For those arriving by car, the building offers a drive court, a feature Goldman said is rare in New York.
Amenities across more than 100,000 square feet include an indoor lap pool, a resort-style outdoor pool, 13 rooftop barbecue grills, pickleball courts, a running track and a recently unveiled pro-style basketball court developed in collaboration with trainer Chris Brickley.
Goldman, whose family has owned the Long Island City site for decades, said the property was previously an industrial site once occupied by American Steel before being converted to light manufacturing and finally reimagined as residential.
He said the building’s sightlines, protected in part by the Queensborough Bridge’s ramp infrastructure which wraps the block, are expected to remain clear for generations, and on a clear day boasts views of the Atlantic Ocean and out to the Poconos.
“Since my family owns real estate for the long hold, we wanted this building to be something we’re going to be proud of for many, many years,” he said.
As for the $13,350 asking rent, Goldman positioned it as a relative value play.
“If you were going to buy this, your carry cost would be probably two to three times that of being a renter,” he said.
The sheriff’s department leading the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s suspected abduction has issued a warning about another kidnapping suspect in a separate case, occurring less than 10 miles from Guthrie’s Tucson residence.
Coral Michelle Smith, aged 40, is being sought in relation to a kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to a “be on the lookout” alert from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department issued over the weekend.
The incident involving Smith took place on May 29 at the junction of River Road and La Cholla Boulevard, approximately 6.8 miles from Guthrie’s home in the Catalina Foothills. The sheriff’s department has not provided further specifics about the event.
Smith is wanted for her alleged involvement in the kidnapping and aggravated assault case near the intersection mentioned above in Pima County, Arizona. The authorities urge anyone who sees her or has information on her whereabouts to contact 911 immediately.
Officials have not suggested any link between Smith and the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.
Court records show Smith has been accused of kidnapping, assault and disorderly conduct in the past. Her 2020 kidnapping charge was dismissed, but she was convicted of residential robbery in the same case. The victim was under 15.
She’s served multiple prior stints in prison and has a number of aliases, including “Corral Albright” and “Under the Sea Smith,” according to local reports.
She has a number of tattoos, including a smiley face and heart on her right ankle, a rose with flames on her right foot, and the phrase “love, life family” on her left leg.
The wanted person flyer does not have any information about wrist tattoos, however, noted Josh Ritter, a California attorney and Fox News contributor who has been following the case.
Nancy Guthrie’s neighborhood in the Catalina Foothills is about 6.8 miles from the intersection where Coral Michelle Smith is accused of kidnapping and assault. Authorities have not alleged a connection between the two cases. They have issued an alert to residents asking anyone with information on Smith’s whereabouts to call 911.(OpenStreetMap)
No suspects have been publicly identified in connection with Guthrie’s Feb. 1 disappearance, but authorities have described a man who appeared on her front doorstep in Nest camera video as average height and build — between 5 feet, 9 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall.

In the video captured by Guthrie’s doorbell camera the person is seen wearing a black, 25-liter “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack, authorities said.
Some analysts have said the person may be female — but even if that were true, Smith is notably shorter than the person on Guthrie’s porch.
Smith is described as standing about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing around 136 pounds.

She has blonde hair and blue eyes and a lengthy rap sheet including prior charges going back to 2010.
Anyone who sees Smith is asked to call 911 immediately. To provide information anonymously, call Tucson’s 88-Crime hotline at 1-520-882-7463. There is a $1,000 reward for information leading to her arrest.

The Guthrie family is asking anyone with information on Nancy’s abduction to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI.
Guthrie is the 84-year-old mother of “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, who discussed the case with colleague Jenna Bush Hager Monday.
“It’s really hard to come back,” she said. She had taken just over two months off from the show during the early stages of the investigation and returned to air in April.
While deputies detained multiple people earlier in the investigation, they were released without charges.
On Monday, Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform to once again voice his discontent with the Los Angeles mayoral primary election. His midday post targeted the election process and its results.
Trump expressed disbelief over Spencer Pratt’s position in the race, stating, “Not possible for Spencer Pratt to have lost the L.A. runoffs after the big lead he had. 3rd World Nation. Rigged Elections!” His criticism did not stop there; he also mentioned, “Now they’ll be working on great guy Steve Hilton. Won’t have results for, possibly, TWO WEEKS, according to officials. President DJT.”
As the votes continued to be tallied, the online results from Los Angeles County on Monday afternoon displayed Pratt in third place. He was trailing behind incumbent Karen Bass by eight percentage points and was closely followed by city councilmember Nithya Raman, who was less than half a point ahead.
Pratt had maintained a lead over Raman from Election Day until the previous night, making the sudden shift in standings a point of contention. Only the top two candidates from the primary will move on to compete in the general election, adding intensity to the race and Trump’s pointed commentary.
Pratt had held a lead over Raman from Election Day until last night. Only the top two candidates will advance to the general election.
Trump has voiced his suspicions several times, including in a Truth Social post on Sunday night.
‘Has anybody been watching the CROOKED Election going on in California,’ the President wrote.
‘Two great Republican Candidates are being cheated, and so is America, which if the Dumocrats are able to fulfill their mission, great trouble and consternation will follow. Watch this “Election” closely!!!’
Donald Trump called the California elections system ‘CROOKED’ as Spencer Pratt fell to third place in the Los Angeles mayoral primary election while socialist Nithya Raman surged into second
Pratt fell to third place in the Los Angeles mayoral primary election as socialist candidate Nithya Raman surged into second
As of Sunday night’s ballot drop in California, Raman (pictured) has now overtaken Pratt for second place by 3,000 votes and is now favored to win
Trump was referring to Pratt and gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton, who remains solidly in second in his primary.
California’s election laws allow for substantial wait time after Election Day. Mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day will be counted as long as they arrive within seven days. County officials have up to thirty days to finalize their results.
The Department of Justice has sent one of its attorneys to the Los Angeles to observe the ballot counting process, as Trump’s claims of fraud persist.
Pratt expressed his own frustrations with the lengthy vote count process in a social media post earlier on Sunday.
‘Remember everyone…we are still in the lead, and we’ve got allllllll the way til July 6th to keep counting,’ he wrote, captioning a photo of Raman crying on election night. ‘They’re not the only ones who know where to find votes.’
The race remains too close to call, but Raman has made substantial gains with mail-in ballots and is widely expected to advance past Pratt and face Bass in the general election.
Sunday was the second consecutive day that Raman added more votes to her tally than either Bass or Pratt.
Generally, more Democrats cast mail-in ballots than Republicans. A States United Action analysis found that one in four registered Democrats voted by mail in 2024, compared to only one in five registered Republicans.
Bass retains her lead over the two challengers with 34.7 percent of the vote
Many right-leaning personalities were baffled and outraged by Raman’s surge ahead of Pratt.
‘Spencer Pratt falls to third place and a woman who hardly anyone voted for in person, Nithya Raman, totally dominated in mail voting,’ wrote Clay Travis.
‘No one with a functional brain believes these results.’
Meghan McCain said she’s noticed more and more conservatives wonder about election integrity.
‘For whatever it’s worth, people in my life who have never ever spoken about stolen elections in any capacity are now saying this about California…’ she wrote.
Longtime conservative actor James Woods said, however, that he wasn’t ‘disturbed’ by the results or the ‘Democrat fraud unfolding’ in the race.
‘I knew to a certainty that statistically impossible cheating would take place AGAIN. I said it, I was right, and I’m done with it. America is lost,’ Woods said.
Bass made clear she had already turned her attention on her probably new opponent, the socialist Raman.
‘We look forward to winning a contest against an opponent who allows encampments near schools and fights against hiring more cops, yet is MIA on saving Hollywood jobs and fighting back when ICE invades LA,’ a campaign spokesperson for Bass said.
‘We are encouraged by the latest vote count and remain grateful to the thousands of Angelenos who have powered this campaign,’ Raman told The Daily Mail.
The Daily Mail has reached out to Pratt for comment.
Balance is a subtle yet powerful indicator of your body’s overall functionality. It becomes increasingly vital as we age, particularly after 60, when everyday activities like stepping off a curb, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs, or reaching for objects demand our body’s full coordination. Strong balance is not solely about having steady feet; it involves a harmonious interaction between your hips, core, ankles, eyes, and nervous system to maintain control.
Through my experience coaching movement sessions, I’ve observed that balance is often reflected in the finer details. The way an individual stands on one leg, manages a step-down, or stabilizes themselves when their center of gravity shifts reveals much about their strength, coordination, mobility, and body awareness. Even those who train rigorously at the gym can overlook these essential elements if their workout routines are too predictable.
To evaluate your balance, consider incorporating the following four exercises into your routine. Each exercise is designed to challenge your balance from a unique perspective, assessing single-leg stability, walking coordination, hip control, and lower-body strength. Approach these exercises with deliberate control and focus, and use your performance as a roadmap to identify areas for further development.
I’ve coached enough movement sessions to know balance usually shows itself in the small details first. The way someone stands on one leg, controls a step-down, or catches themselves when their center of mass shifts can reveal plenty. Those small details point to strength, coordination, mobility, and body awareness all at once. A person can train hard in the gym and still miss these pieces if every workout stays too predictable.
The four exercises below give you a simple way to check where you stand. Each one challenges balance from a slightly different angle. You’ll test single-leg stability, walking coordination, hip control, and lower-body strength. Perform them with control, move with intention, and use the results as a guide for what to keep building.
Single-Leg Stand
The single-leg stand looks basic, yet it reveals a lot. Every step you take puts your body on one leg for a brief moment, so this drill mirrors something you do all day. Your foot and ankle have to make small adjustments, your hip has to keep your pelvis level, and your core has to help you stay tall. After 60, this simple hold can give you a clear snapshot of balance, stability, and lower-body control.
Recommended Sets and Time: Hold for 20 to 45 seconds per side. Complete 2 to 3 rounds.
Best Variations: Supported Single-Leg Stand, Eyes-Closed Single-Leg Stand, Foam Pad Single-Leg Stand, Single-Leg Stand with Toe Taps.
Form Tip: Keep a soft bend in your standing knee so your leg can make small adjustments.
Heel-to-Toe Walk
The heel-to-toe walk challenges balance as you move, giving it a different feel from standing in place. You have to place each foot carefully, control your posture, and keep your eyes forward as your base of support narrows. This drill can help improve walking confidence, especially on sidewalks, trails, crowded spaces, or uneven surfaces. It also trains coordination without needing speed or impact.
Step forward and place one heel directly in front of your opposite toes.
Shift your weight onto the front foot with control.
Bring your back foot forward and repeat the same heel-to-toe placement.
Keep your eyes forward instead of looking straight down.
Continue for the full distance with slow, steady steps.
Recommended Sets and Distance: Walk for 10 to 20 steps. Complete 2 to 3 rounds.
Best Variations: Line Walk, Backward Heel-to-Toe Walk, Supported Heel-to-Toe Walk, Heel-to-Toe Walk with Pause.
Form Tip: Move slowly enough to own each step before starting the next one.
Single-Leg Romanian Deadlift
The single-leg Romanian deadlift builds balance and strength simultaneously. It teaches your hips to stay steady while your torso moves, which carries over well to bending, reaching, and stepping. Your glutes and hamstrings do the heavy lifting, while your core helps prevent rotation. This one also quickly exposes side-to-side differences, making it a great exercise to keep in the rotation.
Form Tip: Reach your back foot behind you instead of letting your hip open to the side.
Box Step-Down
The box step-down trains one of the most useful balance skills: controlling your body as you lower. Stairs, curbs, and uneven ground all require this same ability. Your quad has to slow the descent, your hip has to keep your knee tracking well, and your foot has to stay planted. A smooth step-down shows strong lower-body control and confidence through a real-life movement pattern.
Form Tip: Keep your knee tracking over your toes as you lower and stand back up.
How to Improve Balance After 60
Shutterstock
Improving balance after 60 comes down to giving your body regular chances to practice control. You want your feet, ankles, hips, core, and eyes working together instead of treating balance like a random skill that only shows up when you need it. These exercises help because they challenge stability in different ways: standing still, walking in a narrow line, hinging on one leg, and controlling your body as you lower. The more consistently you train those patterns, the more confident your movement starts to feel. Small doses work well here, especially when the reps stay clean and intentional.
Practice balance several times per week: Short sessions add up quickly. Even 5 to 10 minutes a few days per week can improve control.
Start near support: Use a wall, countertop, chair, or railing when needed. Light support lets you practice better positions without rushing.
Move slowly: Balance improves when you control each position instead of speeding through the exercise.
Train both sides evenly: Single-leg work often exposes side-to-side differences. Give each leg the same attention.
Keep your eyes forward: Looking straight ahead helps your posture stay tall and trains your body to balance without staring at the floor.
Strengthen your hips and ankles: Glute bridges, calf raises, step-ups, and band walks help build the support system behind better balance.
Progress one variable at a time: gradually add time, reps, distance, or light resistance. Don’t change everything at once.
Use real-life carryover: Practice controlled step-downs, steady walking, and single-leg holds so your balance improves in ways you’ll actually use.
Retest every few weeks: Come back to the same four exercises and see how they feel. Better control, smoother reps, and longer holds all count as progress.
If you can perform these four balance exercises with control after 60, you’re in a strong place. You’re showing the stability, strength, and coordination that help keep movement smooth, confident, and reliable.
Four months have passed since Savannah Guthrie’s mother went missing, and the TV anchor is renewing her appeal for her mother’s safe return.
In a heartfelt Instagram Story, Guthrie shared an image of a painting depicting Jesus Christ’s ascension. Overlaying the artwork were the words, “Oh my, my soul it cries out, soul, it cries out.”
Accompanying the image, Guthrie added a poignant message: “bring her home,” punctuated with a yellow heart emoji.
Social media platforms are unable to shift new fees onto their users.
The latest budget from Illinois introduces several new taxes, including one aimed at social media companies operating within the state. The system is structured to tax platforms based on user numbers: Platforms with between 100,000 and nearly 500,000 users face a charge of 10 cents per user monthly, representing the lowest tax bracket. This fee escalates for platforms with 500,000 to just under a million users, who will pay $40,000 each month plus an extra 25 cents per user over the 500,000 threshold. The highest bracket targets platforms with over a million users, imposing a fee of $165,000 monthly along with 50 cents per user exceeding the million-user mark. This taxation is expected to generate $200 million annually, and importantly, these platforms are prohibited from transferring these costs to users.
During a discussion with host Jim Niedelman, House Minority Leader Tony McCombie and State Senator Mike Halpin delved into the implications of this new tax.
(OurQuadCities.com)
“This fee targets major tech companies like Facebook and TikTok, based on their Illinois user base,” explained Halpin. “It establishes a direct financial relationship with Illinois, a state where these companies have not contributed adequately to mitigating the negative impacts of social media.”
“This is a social media platform fee that charges the big tech companies like Facebook and TikTok, based on the number of their Illinois users,” Halpin said. “It’s a direct connection to the state of Illinois, a state where they don’t contribute to addressing a lot of the harms of social media.”
“We, as the users, are going to be paying them, so it is a tax on us,” McCombie said. “It’s not big corporations that are going to be paying for these.”
