Top 5 Morning Workouts to Boost Full-Body Strength for Those Over 60

Incorporating specific moves into your morning routine can significantly enhance your strength-building efforts. For those seeking a dynamic and intense workout, CrossFit offers a blend of functional strength exercises and cardio-focused activities. It provides a comprehensive full-body regimen that not only boosts strength and endurance but also enhances mobility and metabolism, which are crucial as we age.

While CrossFit is effective for many, its vigorous and high-impact nature might not be suitable for all individuals. Recognizing this, we consulted with Dr. Jesse Greer, the Co-Founder and CEO of Preamble Health. This Scottsdale-based practice specializes in longevity and preventive health, using data-driven assessments coupled with thorough provider analysis. Dr. Greer suggests five morning exercises that can effectively build full-body strength, particularly beneficial for those over 60.

Dr. Greer emphasizes, “As we grow older, avoiding injuries becomes paramount. Injuries at an advanced age often require longer recovery times, and the chances of returning to our pre-injury state diminish. For many, reduced quality of life in later years is largely due to movement, pain, and fitness issues.” He further notes, “Traditional gym routines focus on aesthetics or performance. However, after reaching 60, and even from 40 onwards, the focus should shift towards achieving durability, functionality, and resilience.”

While CrossFit can be an excellent way to enhance your overall physical fitness, its high-impact, vigorous movements may not be the right choice for everyone. In fact, we spoke with Dr. Jesse Greer, Co-Founder and CEO of Preamble Health, a Scottsdale-based longevity and preventative health practice offering data-driven assessments, paired with in-depth provider analysis, who shares five morning exercises you can perform that can help build full-body strength even better after 60.

“As we age, the name of the game is not to get injured. Injuries at an older age typically have longer recoveries, and the longer the recovery, the less likely we are to achieve our pre-injury baseline. For most people, the reduction in quality of life in the final decade is actually a movement problem, a pain problem, and a fitness problem,” Dr. Greer explains. “Traditional gym workouts optimize for aesthetics or performance. But after 60, and I’d even say after 40, the goal should be durability, function, and resilience.”

Keep in mind that exercise—like any other form of medicine—is all in the dosage. Too little won’t move the needle, while too much can turn out to be poisonous. Below, Dr. Greer shares five awesome morning moves to help strengthen your entire body.

Aerobic-Based Cardio

Engaging in cardio—like brisk walking, incline treadmill workouts, or cycling at a low to moderate intensity—is one of the best things you can do for your body and overall fitness.

“Low to moderate intensity aerobic cardio improves our body’s ability to use fat for fuel, builds a large foundation for our VO2 max, increases daily caloric expenditure, improves mitochondrial density, and remodels cardiac tissue for more efficient beats,” Dr. Greer tells us. “There is nothing more powerful than accumulating lots of aerobic base cardio. This level of intensity is generally around 60 to 75% of max heart rate. Low enough that the body does not build up additional lactic acid requiring extra recovery debt. This is exactly the type of movement that was taken from us as humans adapted to the modern era, and it’s the level of activity naturally built into the so-called Blue Zones.”

Hip Hinge and Squat Patterns

Performing exercises like squats and hip hinges provide compound lower-body movements that emphasize eccentric control.

“This form of strength training works both concentric and eccentric movement—especially in the lower body,” Dr. Greer points out. “As we age, we lose our ability to stop our force and to brake. This makes us more prone to fall and cause injuries.”

Here’s how to do a bodyweight squat:

  1. Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Extend your arms ahead of you or place your hands on your hips.
  3. Bend at the knees and hips as you lower into a squat.
  4. Descend until your thighs are parallel to the floor.
  5. Press through your heels to rise back up to standing.

Upper-Body Push and Pull

This morning exercise category consists of compound pushing and pulling movements that engage multiple joints and muscle groups simultaneously. Examples of push exercises may include push-ups, dumbbell chest presses, and dumbbell shoulder presses. Examples of pulling moves may include resistance band rows, dumbbell rows, and lat pulldowns.

“Compound movements build strength, especially while challenging your balance and coordination,” Dr. Greer notes.

Here’s how to do a standing resistance band row:

  1. Begin by anchoring a resistance band to a sturdy pole at chest level.
  2. Stand tall, facing the anchor point.
  3. Hold the handles with both hands.
  4. Bend your elbows and pull the band toward your body.
  5. Squeeze your shoulder blades together.
  6. Extend your arms back to the start position.

Loaded Carries

Loaded carries include exercises like suitcase carries and farmer’s walks.

“These train grip, core stability, and the ability to move under load, which is one of the most functional patterns we use in daily life,” Dr. Greer says.

Here’s how to do a farmer’s carry:

  1. Stand tall, holding a dumbbell in each hand at your sides.
  2. Start walking forward, keeping your torso still and maintaining an elevated heel position.

Mobility, Dynamic Stability, and Core Work

This movement category includes things like planks and rotational exercises.

“As we age and stick to one or two exercises, our body builds repetitive pathways, and we develop asymmetries and compensations,” Dr. Greer tells us. “It’s important to address these movement inefficiencies so that we can avoid injury and keep training much longer.”

Here’s how to do a plank:

  1. Assume a forearm plank: Place your forearms on the ground with your elbows under your shoulders and arms parallel to your body, shoulder-width apart.
  2. Keep your body straight from head to heels.
  3. Activate your core, legs, and glutes.

Judge Clears Path for Rose Bowl’s Legal Battle Against UCLA: Key Lawsuit Developments

0

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has decided that the breach-of-contract lawsuit filed by the Rose Bowl against UCLA will move forward. The judge refused UCLA’s request to dismiss the case.

On Thursday, Judge Joseph Lipner turned down UCLA’s attempt to dismiss the case through an anti-SLAPP motion. He explained that the motion was both “untimely” and “lacked sufficient cause for a late filing,” making it inappropriate for consideration.

Lipner pointed out that UCLA submitted this motion in March, a full 125 days following the receipt of the complaint. This case has now been ongoing for eight months.

Anti-SLAPP motions are legal tools intended to shield individuals and entities from unwarranted lawsuits that aim to intimidate them or curb their freedom of expression and right to petition.

“By filing the anti-SLAPP motion so late, UCLA appears to be prolonging its efforts to delay or halt these proceedings,” Lipner stated. “Essentially, this tactic would allow UCLA multiple opportunities to seek a stay over several months, which does not align with the intended purpose of the anti-SLAPP statute.”

As part of his ruling, Lipner also decreed that the Rose Bowl’s case against SoFi Stadium executives for allegedly enticing UCLA to breach its contract through tortious interference could proceed.

The ruling will allow the Rose Bowl to start issuing discovery requests and could prompt UCLA to commit to staying at its Pasadena home long term.

“We appreciate the court’s careful consolidation of the issues and the ruling,” said Nima Mohebbi, a partner at Sidley Austin LLP, the law firm that’s representing the Rose Bowl and the City of Pasadena. “We look forward to moving the case forward.”

A spokesperson for UCLA’s Office of the Vice Chancellor did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The California Post recently learned that UCLA and the Rose Bowl have engaged in discussions for a resolution that would keep the Bruins at their longtime football home through the end of a lease that runs through the 2043 season.

UCLA has already committed to playing at the Rose Bowl for the 2026 season.

In October, the Rose Bowl Operating Co. and the City of Pasadena sued UCLA, claiming the school was exploring a move to SoFi Stadium. The proposed move would not only give the Bruins a more modern home stadium closer to campus but also provide additional revenue through multiple sources, including a planned mixed-use development project.

As part of its lease with the Rose Bowl, UCLA pays no rent but also is locked into what could be considered unfavorable terms regarding suite revenue and other potential income streams.

The stadium is allowing the school to keep revenue from premium seats associated with a new field-level club scheduled to open this season.

New Jersey Man Allegedly Admits to Wife’s Death with Barbell via Messages to Family, Report Reveals

0

A New Jersey resident facing charges of murdering his wife allegedly confessed the crime through messages to relatives. He expressed a “long-simmering hatred” for her in an email before attempting suicide after leaving the crime scene, as revealed by court documents.

Michael A. Kless, 67, has been indicted on first-degree murder charges regarding the death of his 66-year-old wife, Stacy E. Kless, as announced by Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago last Friday.

The probable cause affidavit submitted in Monmouth County states that Ocean Township police were alerted around 9:32 a.m. on May 27. An individual called to report that Kless had confessed to killing his wife and expressed suicidal intentions.

Approximately 14 minutes after the initial report, a second person contacted authorities, indicating that Kless had sent an email admitting to the murder of his mother, as outlined in the affidavit.

Investigators later reviewed the email and said it described a “long-simmering hatred” toward Stacy Kless, referenced a new romantic relationship with a woman from Central America and included details of the killing that matched evidence found at the scene, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit states that workers scheduled to perform repairs at the residence arrived at approximately 9:05 a.m. and encountered Kless outside the home.

Investigators said the workers observed a scratch and blood on Kless’ face. He allegedly refused to allow them inside and asked that the appointment be rescheduled.

Ocean Township police officers responded to the couple’s home on Seward Drive and forced entry into the residence to check on the occupants’ welfare.

Officers found Stacy Kless dead in the basement with a barbell resting across her neck and throat, according to court records. She was pronounced dead later that morning.

Along with first-degree murder, Kless has been charged with third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. Prosecutors identified the weapon as a barbell.

Court records indicate investigators classified the case as involving domestic violence and determined Kless allegedly attempted to or did strangle the victim during the incident.

Authorities allege Kless fled the residence after the killing. Investigators tracked his vehicle traveling north on the Garden State Parkway before he allegedly contacted another individual and said he was attempting to overdose on medication at a rest stop, according to the affidavit.

The couple’s two adult children later provided investigators with text messages that authorities said contained admissions from their father regarding their mother’s death.

Court records also show investigators seized multiple electronic devices, including phones, during the investigation.

Kless remains hospitalized and is in the custody of the Monmouth County Jail, according to Santiago.

Despite the charges, Kless is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Boston Mayor Allocates Taxpayer Funds for Armed Security at Transgender Event: A Controversial Move

0

The Boston mayor’s administration allocated public funds to hire armed police officers for security at a ‘transgender menstruation’ event in response to significant public criticism.

Mayor Michelle Wu’s Office of LGBTQIA2S+ Advancement collaborated with local LGBTQ organizations to organize ‘Trans Period Pride’ on June 17 at a Boston Public Library branch, as reported by Mass Daily News.

However, the event, intended to facilitate a “consciousness-raising conversation around transgender experiences with menstruation,” was canceled last week after facing widespread national criticism.

Despite the cancellation, Wu’s office is continuing its efforts with Mass NOW and the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition, including plans to employ armed security personnel.

In a four-slide Instagram post shared Wednesday, organizers wrote: ‘Let us be clear: we are not backing down, we’re doubling down.’

The organizing groups stated, “In the past week, we have seen an unacceptable surge of anti-trans hatred and misinformation aimed at the Trans Period Pride event.”

‘Due to the severity of some threats that were received, the Boston Police Department will be present at the event.’

Organizers said their priority is ensuring attendees can participate safely, confidently, and without fear, and reiterated that the Trans Period Pride event has not been  canceled.

After drawing widespread national backlash, organizers announced that the Boston Police Department will be ‘present’ at the event

The event was originally set to be held in Copley Square. It will now proceed at a separate, undisclosed downtown Boston location from 6 to 8pm.

‘This event is meant to shed light on the specific challenges, stigmas and misconceptions that transgender people who menstruate face in an affirming, intimate community space,’ the announcement read.

‘We are unapologetic in our commitments to supporting all menstruators regardless of their gender identity and building a world where all people can access dignity, healthcare and community,’ it added.

‘Trans Period Pride is not just about creating a trans-inclusive space to talk about menstruation. It is about breaking down the barriers that stigma, sexism and transphobia build between us all.’

Organizers said they have been working closely with Mayor Wu’s LGBTQ office and continue to coordinate on safety protocols to manage any potential disruptions at the event.

‘Moments like this remind us why gatherings such as a Trans Period Pride matter,’ the groups wrote.

‘There is power in connecting the personal to the political, and in rejecting the shame and stigma that have long been attached to menstruation and gender diversity.’

The post concluded by thanking supporters for standing with the cause, adding, ‘We look forward to welcoming you on June 17 and continuing this important work together.’

The announcement on Wednesday followed a week of growing criticism of Wu, who promoted the event, where attendees are set to receive a catered meal and free period underwear from her office and other partner groups.

Wu, who is outwardly liberal, has been a strong supporter of progressive causes, even as the city faced a $50 million budget shortfall just a month ago.

She remains controversial in Boston despite cruising to a second term as mayor.

Most recently, an LGBTQ group returned city grant funding after Wu began issuing $500 vouchers to migrants for services such as haircuts, massages and other self-care benefits, despite the city facing a multimillion-dollar shortfall.

Applicants who are ‘low-income, isolated queer and trans migrants, asylum seekers and refugees’ are prioritized for the ‘wellness allowance.’

The initiative, called ‘Belonging Matters’, was created by OUTnewcomers, a nonprofit that advocates for LGBTQ+ migrants in Boston alongside the Mayor’s Office for Immigrant Advancement, Mass Daily News reported.

Applicants get $250 to $500 toward ‘non-clinical care’ completely funded by the city agency, which is run by the Democrat’s administration.

They can participate in activities like meditation, yoga, peer support, creative healing, acupuncture and gym memberships, as detailed in the post.

Wu, who is outwardly liberal, has been a strong supporter of progressive causes, even as the city faced a $50 million budget shortfall just a month ago

It comes as the city faces a $48.4 million deficit and teachers are faced with possible staffing cuts due to a $53 million shortfall for Boston Public Schools, according to statistics for this fiscal year.

Wu, 41, has also recently drawn criticism for skipping an annual St. Patrick’s Day event just weeks after she attended a Ramadan night market.

She was a no-show at the decades-old breakfast, hosted at the Ironworkers Local 7 Union Hall in South Boston.

The breakfast, which Wu attended last year, was a gathering of different politicians from across the state who take turns throwing jabs, jokes, and songs at one another.

However, Wu, who posted online about a Ramadan Night market at city hall just about two weeks before not attending the St. Patrick’s Day event, chose to go to church with her family instead, a spokesperson told the Boston Globe.

Her absence followed a heated clash with the event’s host, Senator Nick Collins, a fellow Democrat who has publicly opposed Wu’s proposal to avoid raising residential property taxes by temporarily increasing taxes on commercial real estate.

Wu’s salary rose to $250,000 in January after her reelection, up from $207,000, while City Council members now earn $125,000, up from $103,500 last year.

During the meeting, Wu’s ally, Councilor Sharon Durkan, claimed the pay hikes were necessary to prevent politicians from resorting to theft or taking kickbacks.

According to Emerson College Polling in September, 66 percent of voters approved of the job she is doing in office.

Shocking Scandal: Twin Lakes Academy Middle School Guard Arrested for Lewd Conduct with Student

0

Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) has taken swift action following allegations against Jon Kee, a security guard at Twin Lakes Academy Middle School in Jacksonville’s Southside. Kee has been reassigned to a position that does not involve interaction with children, as he faces serious accusations involving inappropriate behavior with a student.

According to a DCPS spokesperson, the 27-year-old Kee was arrested on May 29 and is being charged with soliciting or engaging in lewd conduct with a student, a charge classified as a second-degree felony. As of Monday, Kee remains in custody with a bond set at $500,000.

“Upon learning of the arrest, we immediately reassigned the staff member to duties away from campus and without student contact, pending the results of the criminal investigation and our district’s professional standards review,” stated the spokesperson. “Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority.”

He is charged with either soliciting or engaging in lewd conduct with a student as an authority figure — a second-degree felony — and remained in jail with a 500,000 bond Monday.

“Upon receiving notification of the arrest, the individual was immediately reassigned to duties away from our campus and without student contact, pending the outcome of the criminal investigation and the district’s professional standards review,” a DCPS spokesperson said. “The safety and well-being of our students remains our highest priority.”

According to an arrest report obtained by First Coast News, Kee had begun talking with a student who often saw him at school when she spotted him working at a gas station. Police learned that Kee has allegedly given her a free slushy, candy, and eventually, offered to give her marijuana. Police said after they exchanged numbers, conversations showed he had asked her sexual questions and discussed having sex with her in detail.

According to the school district, Kee began working with the district as an office assistant at the school in February 2022 before transitioning to his role as a security guard in July 2024.

Any student, parent or staff member who believes they may have more information about Kee and thinks they may be able to assist law enforcement in their investigation is encouraged to reach out to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500.

Yankees’ Aaron Judge Injury Saga: The Unyielding Truth Amidst Ongoing Uncertainty

0

Yankees superstar Aaron Judge has undergone an extensive series of medical evaluations and tests due to persistent discomfort in his rib cage or shoulder, though specifics remain unclear. Despite the thorough assessments, the Yankees have yet to pinpoint the exact issue.

This lack of information is not uncommon in baseball, as teams, not just the Yankees, often release updates in a measured manner. When it involves a key player like Judge, details can be even more scarce and slow to emerge.

Judge has been experiencing pain for several days, with three days of rigorous testing conducted on his rib cage and shoulder. Despite the efforts, the Yankees appear to have no definitive answers regarding the condition of this legendary player, who earns $40 million annually.

“I’ve got nothing for you, sorry,” manager Aaron Boone stated, as the Yankees fielded a lineup without Judge. Despite his absence, they managed to secure a narrow 2-1 victory, avoiding a home sweep by the frugal yet formidable Guardians.

Army Veteran and Sheriff Candidate Has Murder Charge Dismissed in Case of Alleged Predator Shooting

0

An Arkansas judge has recently dropped murder charges against Aaron Spencer, a local sheriff candidate and Army veteran. Spencer had been accused of fatally shooting a man who was allegedly involved in the sexual assault of his teenage daughter.

The incident, which led to Spencer being initially charged with second-degree murder, involved the death of 67-year-old Michael Fosler in Lonoke County in October 2024. On Thursday, Special Circuit Court Judge Ralph Wilson Jr. formally dismissed the charges, as confirmed by court documents obtained by News Media.

Prosecutors had claimed that on the night of October 8, 2024, Spencer found Fosler alone with his daughter inside Fosler’s pickup truck during the early hours. It was reported that Spencer allegedly ran the vehicle off the road and then contacted 911, stating he had shot Fosler.

Interestingly, Aaron Spencer announced his intention to run for the position of sheriff in Arkansas a year after his arrest, which stemmed from the shooting of his daughter’s alleged attacker. His campaign continues to draw attention as the legal proceedings unfold.

The judge cited law enforcement’s mishandling of dash-camera and SD card evidence from Spencer’s truck, adding a dismissal is “an extraordinary and extreme remedy” in any criminal case.

“However, based on the totality of the circumstances and the unique, specific, and particular facts and circumstances of this case, the Court finds that conduct by law enforcement was so egregious that dismissal of this case is warranted,” the judge wrote.

Spencer’s defense team argued that law enforcement lost the SD card possibly containing footage of the altercation, and did not provide documentation regarding when the item went missing or details surrounding its disappearance.

The judge ruled that “the loss or destruction of the internal SD memory card of the dash camera has adversely impaired the Defendant’s ability to defend himself pursuant to these defenses, and thus his right to a fair trial,” according to court documents.

Sheriff John Staley speaking about Aaron Spencer in Lonoke

Sheriff John Staley said Aaron Spencer has not been formally charged and that the District Attorney’s Office will decide which charges to file in Lonoke. (Google Maps)

Fosler had previously been charged with “numerous sexual offenses” against Spencer’s teenage daughter and was out on bond at the time of the shooting, court records indicated.

In February, Spencer emerged as the winner of the Republican primary for Lonoke County sheriff after defeating the incumbent, in which he vowed to reform the county’s law enforcement agency.

“Through my own fight for justice, I have seen firsthand the failures in law enforcement and in our circuit court,” Spencer said in a previous campaign video. “And I refuse to stand by while others face these same failures.”

While Spencer admitted to gunning down Fosler, he pleaded not guilty to the murder charges. The case was set to go to trial on June 22.

Details regarding how the dismissal could impact his candidacy for sheriff have not yet been released.

News Media reached out to the Lonoke County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office and Spencer’s defense team for comment.

President Trump Announces Star-Studded Lineup for Freedom 250 Rally

0

President Trump has announced that Lee Greenwood, alongside U.S. military bands, will headline his Freedom 250 birthday celebration concert. This decision comes after numerous artists withdrew from the event.

Trump assured attendees that the event, set in the “magnificent” Washington D.C., would feature his presence along with other speakers. He emphasized that the gathering would offer what he described as the “Greatest Music ever played” later this month.

On Truth Social, Trump enthusiastically declared, “We will be bringing you, LIVE, the Greatest Rally, EVER!” He highlighted the simplicity of the event, saying, “All we want is you, me, a few speakers, and the Greatest Music ever played, the same Music you have listened to for years!”

This announcement followed Trump’s decision to “cancel” the concert after facing backlash and threats, which led to multiple artists opting out of the performance.

He made the announcement after ‘canceling’ the concert when several artists dropped out of the concert due to backlash and threats.

Poison, Morris Day, Young MC, the Commodores and Martina McBride had nixed their appearances. The artists claimed they were led to believe Freedom 250 was nonpartisan, only to learn that it was tied to the Trump Administration.

But Trump said he didn’t need the big name ’90s performers to have a good time on his birthday.

‘It will be special at every level — A Rally to end all Rallies!’ he said.

‘We don’t want singers with no talent, but big fees to put you to sleep, we’ve told them all to stay home.’

Trump said that country artist Lee Greenwood would introduce him at the event on June 24.

‘We will have the fabulous Lee Greenwood introducing me with what has turned out to be one of the Greatest Hits of All Time, GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.,’ he said.

MAGA opera singer Christopher Macchio will perform Nessun Dorma, Hallelujah, Ave Maria, God Bless America, and others.

‘Not since the legendary Luciano Pavarotti has there been such a voice!’ Trump said about Macchio.

He added that the ‘wonderful’ Army Band and US Marine Band would perform with the Joint Armed Forces Chorus.

Last month Freedom 250, the Trump-affiliated body organizing the event, announced that musicians including the Commodores and Vanilla Ice would perform at the Great American State Fair on the National Mall.

But it became mired in controversy just hours after the lineup was announced, with five of the nine acts dropping out over its ties to the president.

Trump temporarily planned to nix the whole event and turn it into a rally that would feature himself as the new headliner.

In a long Truth Social post, he dubbed himself the ‘Number One Attraction anywhere in the World’ and compared himself to Elvis.

Trump said unlike The King, who needed a guitar to wow his fans, all the President needs is a microphone and a good speech to get ‘much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime,’ he wrote.

‘I am ordering my Representatives to look at the feasibility of doing an AMERICA IS BACK Rally,’ he wrote on Truth Social. ‘Same time, same location. Only Great Patriots invited – It will be a Wild and Beautiful Celebration of America!’

Music artists who had previously been tapped ignited chaos with furious public posts declaring they would not perform at the event – with some even claiming that they were misled and that Trump’s connection to the gig had been hidden from them.

Morris Day announced Wednesday on Instagram that ‘It’s a no for me,’ while Martina McBride, Young MC and William King of The Commodores also made clear that they would not be performing at Freedom 250, which will also feature a UFC fight on the White House’s South Lawn.

However, others, including Vanilla Ice, clarified that they were still on for the show.

In an Instagram post last week, Morris Day shared a graphic stating, ‘Contrary to rumor, Morris Day & the Time will not be performing at the “Great American State Fair.”‘

The Commodores subsequently announced that they would not be performing at Freedom 250.

‘Our music has always been our voice and we choose not to publicly affiliate with any single political party,’ the funk act said on Instagram. ‘We support the betterment of all Americans.’

William King, a co-founding member and multi-instrumentalist for the group, confirmed in a phone call to Rolling Stone that they would not be performing at the concert.

Country music hitmaker Martina McBride also joined the list of cancellations on Thursday.

‘I was presented with an opportunity to perform at a nonpartisan event but that turned out to be misleading,’ McBride wrote in an Instagram post, adding that she had ‘asked lots of questions and was assured this was a nonpartisan event that was meant to celebrate ALL 50 states.

‘I thought this was a great way to celebrate the states and also bring people together in the way that only music can,’ she continued. ‘I saw it as just a bigger version of so many state fairs that I have performed at over the years, celebrating community and what makes each state special.’

But McBride added, ‘Yesterday things started changing and what we were told is, in fact, not what is happening.’

She went on to defend herself, saying she had spent her ‘entire career singing songs about real people with real issues’ and being a ‘voice for those who have felt like they didn’t have one.’

‘It greatly upsets me that any fan who has been moved by my music may now feel like I’m abandoning the meaning behind those songs,’ McBride continued. ‘I assure you, that is not the case. I appreciate every single fan who has reached out.’

The rapper (born Marvin Young) went on to claim that ‘The artists were never told about any political involvement with the event.’

Young MC clarified how his name came to be associated with Freedom 250 and called it a ‘bait-and-switch’ scheme in an interview with Vibe on Thursday.

‘I had no clue it was considered a “Trump-backed” event, so that was new to me,’ he said. ‘My whole thing was “tell me what the event is, what it’s about, who you are, and then give me the choice of whether I want to do the event or not.” I was never given that choice.

‘I was told one thing, and then it was a bait-and-switch,’ Young MC alleged. ‘All the comments I’ve seen from the artists that have dropped out thought it was supposed to be a regular show in DC.’

Among the performers announced was Milli Vanilli, but members of a group calling themselves The Real Milli Vanilli issued a statement on Thursday distancing themselves from Freedom 250.

‘Others using the name “Milli Vanilli” that appear on the advertisement should be considered a tribute band with no association vocally or musically to our sound or songs,’ they wrote.

Milli Vanilli was originally billed as a duo featuring Rob Pilatus, who died in 1998, and Fab Morvan, but they were later revealed to have only lip-synced to songs performed by studio vocalists, most of whom appear to comprise the Real Milli Vanilli group.

However, Morvan was featured on advertisements for Freedom 250, suggesting that a group featuring him may perform under the Milli Vanilli name.

Even as other artists rushed to jump ship, Vanilla Ice’s management confirmed that he would still be part of the Freedom 250 lineup.

‘Vanilla Ice is contracted and will perform at the Great American Fair at the National Mall on Friday, June 26,’ TQ management told Rolling Stone. ‘He is proud to help celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary! Everyone is welcome to attend and celebrate USA’s Birthday and our Freedom!’

Bondi’s Ahmed Al Ahmed Reveals Shocking Family Accusations Amid Emotional Court Appearance for Assault Charge

Ahmed Al Ahmed, recognized for his bravery during the Bondi terror attack, found himself overwhelmed with emotion as he faced serious allegations in court. He vehemently denied accusations of assaulting and intimidating his father, asserting that these claims are part of a calculated effort by his family to extort money from his $2.6 million GoFundMe campaign.

The 44-year-old hero was served with a court attendance notice on Wednesday concerning alleged domestic violence, specifically common assault and intimidation intended to create fear of physical harm. These allegations stem from an incident reported to have occurred on March 9 at a residence in Bankstown and subsequently reported to the authorities nearly a week later. Ahmed is scheduled to present his case at Bankstown Local Court on July 29.

According to police reports, during the altercation, Ahmed allegedly put his elderly father in a headlock. In response to these allegations, an Apprehended Violence Order has been issued in favor of his father. This order restricts Ahmed from engaging in assaulting, stalking, harassing, or any form of contact with his father. He is also mandated to maintain a distance of at least 100 meters from his father’s home and workplace.

Police allege Ahmed placed his elderly father in a headlock during the incident.

An Apprehended Violence Order has also been taken out on behalf of his father, preventing Ahmed from assaulting, stalking, harassing or contacting him. He must also remain at least 100 metres away from his father’s home and workplace.

Speaking to 2GB’s Ben Fordham on Friday, Ahmed denied the allegations and became emotional as he claimed he was the victim of an extortion campaign by family members over the fortune donated to him following the Bondi attack.

He claimed the dispute began in February after tensions arose over money from his recovery fundraiser, after two of his brothers came from overseas to support him in Australia.

‘They’ve harassed and abused me and pushed to get money from me before they leave Australia, because I’ve been sponsoring them and brought them to Australia,’ Al Ahmed claimed.

Ahmed alleged both his brothers demanded $100,000 each, while he claimed his father had asked for half the money raised through the GoFundMe campaign.

Ahmed said his brothers travelled to Australia on three-month visas but alleged they later refused to leave.

Ahmed claimed the relationship with his father deteriorated after he reported his brothers’ alleged extortion attempts to police.

He alleged his father became angry and pressured him through other family members to withdraw the police complaint against his brothers.

‘He start like sending messages with, with my sister, and he [said] either withdraw the case against the brother, or he will go against me.’

Fordham questioned how Ahmed, who continues to suffer the effects of serious injuries sustained in the Bondi attack, could have allegedly placed someone in a headlock.

‘I’ve seen you at an event where you’re trying to hold a microphone while answering questions. How were you able to put someone in a chokehold – did police have any evidence?’

Ahmed said police did not have any evidence and had only contacted him through his lawyer.

‘It’s extortion, and 100 per cent it’s a pay back, that’s what I’m going to call it,’ Ahmed said.

After hearing Ahmed’s account, Fordham said he was unconvinced by the allegations and questioned why police had pursued the matter.

‘Guess what? I don’t believe your brothers, I don’t believe your dad, I don’t believe any of them, and I can’t believe that police took this seriously. But then again, maybe the police have just got to do their job.’

Ahmed said he hopes the charges will be dropped.

‘Honestly, I’m disappointed. This situation caused me stress and anxiety. I’m very upset,’ he said.

‘This situation is untrue. I’m an honest, innocent, honourable guy. I never hurt anyone and I’ve never been violent.

‘Since what happened at Bondi, I’ve been given a second chance at life. I’ve been trying to look after my health and recover.’

As Al Ahmed broke down in tears, Fordham praised his actions during the Bondi Junction attack.

‘I’ll never ever ever forget what you did for the rest of my life.

‘I’ve lived in this city my whole life. It was the darkest day in our history, and you stood tall on behalf of every single one of us, and you did something that we all wish we would do, but in the bottom of our guts, we don’t know whether we would have the balls to do it.

‘I hope that common sense prevails here. I don’t know what went on or what didn’t go on, but I find this all very hard to believe. You stay strong and you fight these charges.’

The charges against the Bondi hero come days after his two brothers, Hozifah and Sameh Al Ahmed, appeared in court for allegedly threatening him over the phone.

They were charged with allegedly using a carriage service to menace, harass or offend their older sibling.

The pair have pleaded not guilty after NSW Police alleged they called Ahmed and each demanded $100,000 from him.

The brothers are due to face court on June 8, while Ahmed will face court on July 29.

Ahmed was applauded as a hero following the terror attack on a Jewish festival at Bondi Beach on December 14, in which 15 innocent people lost their lives.

Ahmed wrestled a gun from one of the two alleged gunmen, Sajid Akram, who was later fatally shot by police.

The surviving gunman, Naveed Akram, remains before the court.

Ahmed was severely injured in the attack and has still not fully recovered.

George Knight Abruptly Departs Love Island UK, Exits Villa Unexpectedly

Love Island fans often find themselves wondering about the voice behind the witty commentary. That voice belongs to none other than Scottish comedian Iain Stirling, who has become an indispensable part of both the UK and USA versions of the hit reality show. Despite his lighthearted delivery, Stirling adheres to a demanding routine during the show’s filming.

In an interview with TODAY in 2024, Stirling shared a glimpse into his packed schedule: “Every day, I log on to Love Island UK by noon UK time. By then, the day’s episode is nearly complete. I spend two to three hours writing, wrapping up around 4 or 4:30. After that, it’s family time—dinner, bath, and bedtime for the kids. My life might not be rock ‘n’ roll, but it’s fulfilling. Later in the evening, around 8:30, I shift gears to work on Love Island USA, which is early morning in Fiji.”

According to executive producer Mike Parrish, who spoke to The Wrap, Stirling reviews a rough cut of the episodes over Zoom from his home. He collaborates with the writers to highlight amusing moments or key story developments, all while recording his narration on his home microphone. This narration is seamlessly integrated into the episodes.

Before the episodes make it to air, they undergo a final review by Peacock’s legal and standards team. Occasionally, this team provides feedback that prompts last-minute revisions to ensure everything is shipshape for broadcast.

His narration is added to the episode before the episode is sent to Peacock’s legals and standards team (which does sometimes have notes that require last-minute changes).

“We’d try to finish by about 12 or 1 in the morning, then I’d stay up till half to 3 — which is still not the end of the show for the U.S.,” Stirling told TODAY. “In a dream world, I’d be staying up ‘til like, 5, 6, in the morning, but that would basically involve me never sleeping.”

Proof that the franchise can produce a forever bond: Stirling married former Love Island UK host Laura Whitmore in 2020 and they welcomed a daughter in March 2021.
