Authorities have confirmed that human bones discovered near the residence of Nancy Guthrie are not linked to the missing 84-year-old woman. This development comes as a relief, yet it leaves unanswered questions regarding her mysterious disappearance.
Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie, a host on the Today show, vanished on February 1. Investigators suspect she was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona. The case has drawn significant attention and concern from the community and media alike.
Efforts to uncover new leads took a turn on Thursday when Michael Ruiz, a reporter for Fox News, joined investigators in a search operation. The team focused on a desert area located approximately 15 minutes east of Nancy Guthrie’s home, following a tip from A.J. Double U News, a streamer actively covering the case, about bones reportedly found in the vicinity.
Despite initial hopes for a breakthrough, Tucson Police have clarified that the bones are of prehistoric origin and are not connected to the ongoing investigation into Guthrie’s disappearance. This discovery only deepens the mystery surrounding the missing grandmother.
Ruiz shared footage of the scene, illustrating the diligent efforts of investigators as they combed through the cordoned-off area. The search continues, as authorities and family members seek any trace of Nancy Guthrie.
Tucson Police quickly clarified that the bones were not linked to Guthrie.
‘The bone found near Craycroft and River was determined to be human,’ the department said in a statement. ‘This will be a prehistoric anthropological investigation.
‘The University of Arizona’s Anthropology Department and the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner assisted. This is not a criminal investigation.’

Human bones were found close to her Tucson, Arizona home on Thursday but they were quickly determined to be unrelated to her
Tucson Police said the human bones were ‘prehistoric’ and did not belong to the missing grandmother
Nancy’s puzzling disappearance quickly captivated the world. She has not been seen or heard from since the evening of January 31.
The investigation involves about two dozen Pima County and FBI detectives, who have probed a series of blackmail messages sent to the family and to media outlets demanding bitcoin money in return for Nancy.
None of the ransoms were ever paid as the Guthrie family demanded proof of life, but never got it.
Authorities and the family also could not verify the authenticity of the ransom notes, despite their willingness to pay.
Over the course of the investigation, only a handful of people have been taken in for questioning. No one has been arrested.
Various pieces of evidence have also been found at the home and in the surrounding area, including drops of blood on Nancy’s front porch, a torn-down doorbell camera, and several gloves.
Surveillance footage also captured a masked person outside her front door, appearing to tamper with the doorbell camera before it was snatched off.
Her daughter Savannah has since made her way back to New York City and is back on-air at NBC’s Today show.

All eyes have been on the TV personality as she continues to fight for answers about what happened to her mother.
A rumor quickly spread in mid-April after social media users claimed to have seen Savannah disappear from the show halfway through a chat with actress Anne Hathaway.
Given the abduction of her mother, many speculated she may have received an update and had to step away.
But the rumor was entirely false, with Savannah back on air 20 minutes later for a cooking segment.
An industry source told the Daily Mail: ‘It’s not unusual for a host to tease an upcoming segment at any point, and for another host to do the interview.’
But the sudden switch spawned an avalanche of speculation.
‘Maybe she got a call and was going to leave after the last set?’ one X user wrote.
A rumor quickly spread on Wednesday after social media users claimed to have seen Savannah disappear from the show halfway through a chat with actress Anne Hathaway
The rumors gained traction thanks to a widely viewed post from one X account, the Crimewives Club. The profile regularly shares updates for ongoing investigations.
Savannah made her return to the Today set last week. She stepped away during the initial months of the search.
‘It’s good to be back home,’ she told viewers at the outset of her April 6 return.
Sources told Variety a few days before that the Today team was planning to initially play it by ear’ for Savannah’s return.
The FBI is offering up to $50,000 for information about her mother’s whereabouts as the investigation continues.
A Chicago police officer’s life was tragically cut short during a shooting at Swedish Hospital on the city’s North Side, following the arrest of a robbery suspect, according to the Chicago Police Department (CPD).
In a heartfelt gathering on Thursday, friends, family, and fellow first responders paid their respects to Officer John Bartholomew during a visitation held at Saint Andrews Greek Orthodox Church. Officer Bartholomew is fondly remembered for his dedication to duty and his devotion as a father.
ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch
The morning began with a solemn procession as police escorted the hearse carrying Officer Bartholomew’s body to the church. His casket, draped in a Chicago flag, was a poignant symbol of his service to the city.
As a tribute to the fallen officer, blue ribbons and flags adorned the church exterior, serving as a reminder of his sacrifice and the community’s gratitude.
Bartholomew was killed in the line of duty on April 25. He and his partner were shot while they monitored a robbery suspect at Swedish Hospital.
Officer Bartholomew’s longtime partner Officer Nelson Crespo was critically injured and is still recovering. Earlier this week, Superintendent Larry Snelling publicly named Crespo during an awards ceremony.
“Officer Nelson Crespo is in the hospital and although has made some improvements he’s still fighting for his life. and were still fighting with him. were going to always be there for the families of the fallen,” Superintendent Snelling said.
Bartholomew has been with the department since 2015. He was a husband and father and is described as always putting his family first.
The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation said his energetic presence left a lasting impression on his fellow officers.
There were street closures on DuSable Lake Shore Drive from Foster to Hollywood and Sheridan Rd from Bryn Mawr to Hollywood.
The funeral is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at Saint Andrews Greek Orthodox Church.

MEMORISE: To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. – Isaiah 28:12 (KJV)
READ: 1 Kings 19:4-8 (KJV)
4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
7 And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
8 And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Chronicles 1-4
Open Heaven 8 May 2026 MESSAGE
Today, as I continue to discuss the secrets to longevity, I will highlight the importance of recharging your physical batteries.
Your physical batteries must not be neglected, as you need them to succeed in your spiritual assignments. For example, Moses had a spiritual assignment to lead the Israelites out of captivity and take them into the Promised Land. While this assignment was primarily spiritual, it also had a lot of physical demands on him, and he would have failed woefully if he hadn’t heeded Jethro’s counsel, which saved him from wearing himself out before his time. He was overworking himself and ignoring the need to refuel his physical batteries by taking rests when required (Exodus 18:13-26). Tomorrow, I will discuss more about taking rests.
Another way to refuel your physical batteries so you can endure and succeed in the path that God has set before you is by eating right and at the right time. In (1 Kings 18-19), Elijah had used his spiritual batteries to call down fire from heaven, call down rain, and outrun the king’s chariot. All those exploits must have depleted both his physical and spiritual batteries because when he heard that Jezebel was after his life, he took to his heels. He ran for three days and nights, then asked God to take his life. He fell asleep right where he made the request, and thankfully, God sent an angel to wake him and feed him twice, so he could refuel and successfully complete the long journey he had ahead of him.
I wonder what would have happened if the angel hadn’t woken Elijah, and Jezebel had caught up with him while he was exhausted and asleep. Many people with glorious destinies have found themselves sleeping until Jezebel caught up with them and killed them because they had neglected their bodies, and it failed them at a critical time. By Jezebel in this context, I am referring to sin. For instance, if a married man fasts so much that he neglects his sexual needs and does not get intimate with his wife for a long time, his body could revolt due to suppressed sexual desires when he is alone on a trip. This could lead him to commit a sexual sin that can put an abrupt end to his spiritual journey.
Beloved, you must learn to relax your body and cater to its needs according to God’s will at different times, so you can enjoy longevity and run your race successfully.
Open Heaven 8 May 2026 KEY POINT
You must not neglect your body if you want to remain on course and fulfil God’s will for your life.

DCLM Daily Manna 8 May 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Christian Submission
TOPIC: Christian Submission (DCLM Daily Manna 8 May 2026)
KEY VERSE: Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well – 1 Peter 2:13, 14
TEXT: 1 Peter 2:13-17 (KJV)
13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
Elizabeth Elliot, the Christian missionary, author and speaker once noted that, “Throughout the Bible… when God asked a man to do something, methods, means, and specific directions were always provided. The man had one thing to do: obey.”
The writer of today’s passage highlights two critical areas of concern for the Christian in a dark, corrupt, and perverted world. Unarguably, the whole world lies in wickedness, yet the believer is called to a life of obedience and submission to our societies’ rules and regulations. Grace in a believer makes him or her demonstrate Christlike virtues of love, peaceableness and respect for order. The haughty spirit that makes a sinner misbehave and disregard others has been crushed at the cross. True believers see others as offspring of the heavenly Father, and, therefore, relate with them as He would that they do to Him. In the same vein, the Apostle admonishes saints to respect and submit to the laws of the land and constituted authorities put in place for the smooth running of the society, and to ensure our corporate existence. Nonetheless, governors must rule with the fear of God, not oppressing the citizens. They should treat people as fellow humans, knowing they also have a Master in heaven who, without respect of persons, would judge all men without partiality.
Jesus and His disciples paid tax while on earth. We must follow His example. Christians should pay taxes, rates, utility bills, and development levies. And as responsible citizens, we do not participate in acts that may lead to the breakdown of law and order. That would be unprofitable to us and could make men blaspheme the holy name of the Lord. Moreover, as role models, believers must do nothing detrimental to the survival, growth and progress of the organisations or institutions they belong. They are to team up with those in authority to uplift the ethos of their communities.
It contradicts terms if believers live contrary to God’s word. The disciples were first called Christians because people in Antioch saw the practical demonstration of Christlikeness in them. Many who profess faith in Christ today major in charisma and are minor in character. They forget that charismatic gifts do not translate into right standing with God and never replace holiness and Christian conduct. After all, the ass of Balaam spoke in the clear human language, yet, it remained an animal, not a man. Let your life reflect the gospel that you preach and embody.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY To contradict God’s will is to blaspheme His name.

Rhapsody Of Realities 8 May 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): The Right Foundation For Faith
TOPIC: The Right Foundation For Faith (Rhapsody of Realities 8 May 2026)
For we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).
Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:
Do you want to live the Christian life according to the Bible? Then you’ve got to know and follow the Word for yourself and live by it, not your feelings. Feelings and personal experiences are not the basis for faith. God never designed us to rely on experiences. Our faith is founded on His Word.
People often describe different sensations they “feel” when the power of God is manifested. Some say they felt something cold, others say they felt something hot. Some say they were shaking, and others say they became stiff and couldn’t move. These are personal experiences peculiar to different individuals.
Therefore, it’s not right for anyone to make a doctrine out of their personal experience. The Bible never says you must feel anything when the power of God is working in you, on you, or through you. The Word doesn’t base divine realities on sensations. They’re activated by faith. No matter the feeling you may have, focus on the Word, on the result, that God’s grace has met your need. A beautiful example is the woman with the issue of blood. The Bible records that the moment she touched the hem of the Master’s garment, “…straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague” (Mark 5:29).
Notice that her testimony of the feeling was that she was healed. That is the kind of testimony that matters; the best report is to know and testify that you are healed. That’s the Word’s report and provides the right foundation for faith. Faith is the expectation of the fulfilment of God’s Word and acting accordingly, and you’ll enjoy the results that the Word guarantees.
PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for your Word that guides my life and establishes my faith. My confidence is anchored in your truth, and I walk in the reality of your Word today. My faith is strong, my spirit is confident, and my life produces faith-based results because I live by your Word, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
FURTHER STUDY
Romans 10:17 (KJV) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Hebrews 11:1 (KJV) Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 10:38 (KJV) Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

A Kentucky man, who endured over two decades in prison for a murder he insists was based on fabricated evidence, has been awarded more than $24 million. A jury concluded he was wrongfully convicted in what prosecutors once labeled as a “satanic” killing.
Jeffrey Clark was just 21 when he and his friend, Keith Hardin, were convicted for the 1992 stabbing of 19-year-old Rhonda Sue Warford. Her body was discovered in a field in Meade County, days after she vanished from her Louisville home.
During the trial, prosecutors alleged that the murder had a ritualistic motive, relying on witness testimonies and forensic evidence. Clark later contested these claims, arguing in court that the evidence was false or misleading.
After serving more than 22 years, Clark’s case took a turn when new DNA testing discredited the critical evidence that had led to his conviction. His conviction was overturned in 2016, and by 2018, all charges against him were dropped.
Following the verdict, Mr. Clark posed with his legal team from Loevy + Loevy, celebrating the justice served. The team included Melinda Ek, Elliot Slosar, Amy Staples, Jimmer Dudley, Stephany Janssen, and Julia Quinn.
“I finally feel like I am able to wake up from a 34-year nightmare,” Clark said after the verdict.
In a civil lawsuit, Clark accused investigators of engaging in misconduct to secure his conviction, including fabricating statements, pressuring witnesses and withholding evidence that could have supported his innocence.
According to the complaint, detectives attributed statements to Hardin suggesting the killing was part of a ritual, despite no independent evidence to support that claim.
The lawsuit also alleges authorities relied on testimony from a jailhouse informant who received benefits in exchange for cooperating, while failing to disclose information that could have undermined his credibility.
An ex-girlfriend’s testimony portraying Clark as involved in satanic practices was also called into question, with the lawsuit alleging her statements conflicted with earlier accounts.
Investigators also failed to pursue another potential suspect who had allegedly confessed to the killing, according to the complaint.
Rhonda Warford, a 19-year-old from Louisville, Kentucky, whose 1992 killing remains unsolved.(Justice for Rhonda Sue Warford Facebook page)
The case later drew attention from the Innocence Project, which said advances in DNA testing ultimately discredited the prosecution’s core forensic evidence.
Testing showed that hair presented at trial as consistent with Hardin did not belong to him, Clark or the victim. Additional testing confirmed that blood found on a handkerchief, which prosecutors had tied to alleged ritual activity, belonged to Hardin, consistent with his account at trial.
The organization also pointed to evidence that a jailhouse informant attempted to coordinate false testimony and that investigators did not follow up on another potential suspect.
Clark’s legal team has also highlighted the role of the lead detective in the case, who was later convicted in an unrelated matter involving perjury and evidence tampering, further raising questions about the original investigation.
Rhonda Sue Warford was found stabbed to death in Meade County, Kentucky, in 1992.(Justice for Rhonda Sue Warford Facebook page)
The lawsuit further alleges investigators adjusted the timeline of Warford’s death to fit their theory of the case. Authorities initially believed the killing occurred days after she disappeared, when Clark and Hardin had alibis, but later focused on an earlier timeframe that weakened those alibis, according to the complaint.
A jury ultimately found in Clark’s favor, awarding him $24.35 million in compensatory damages along with additional punitive damages.
Meade County officials said the verdict is under review.
“A verdict was rendered … and it is under evaluation as to our next course of action,” the county said in a statement, adding it has no further comment pending legal review.
Despite Clark’s exoneration and the multimillion-dollar award, Warford’s killing remains unsolved, and no one has been convicted in the case.

On Thursday night, communities across the nation were bathed in a tranquil glow of pink, as candlelight vigils took place in ovals, parks, and street corners. This shared act of remembrance was in honor of 5-year-old Kumanjayi Little Baby, whose untimely passing has touched the hearts of many.
In the heart of Alice Springs, a poignant gathering was held at ANZAC Oval. There, Leanne Liddle, the Executive Director of Cultural Reform at Northern Territory Police, stepped up to the stage. She delivered a heartfelt message from Kumanjayi’s mother, capturing the profound sorrow that has enveloped her family.
“I want you all to know that my heart is broken into a million pieces,” Kumanjayi’s mother expressed through Liddle. “I am struggling to understand how to mend it or how to continue living without my little baby.”
The evening was marked by silent tears and quiet reflections, as thousands mourned together, united in their grief and support for Kumanjayi’s family during this tragic time.
“I am having trouble knowing how I can repair it [and] how I can live without my little baby.”
“I ask as I move through my grief, lets look up to the night sky and find the brightest star where Kumanjayi Little Baby is now in heaven.
“I ask everyone to take care of your little ones.”

Maya Cifali has lived in Alice Springs for 40 years, and she says the display of community spirit following Kumanjayi Little Baby’s death is unlike anything she has seen before.
“It is the first time that such a community spirit is felt for all of us,” the 89-year-old told said.
“This event, we hope, will not ever be seen or heard again.”
Ms Cafali was one of around a thousand people to attend the vigil at ANZAC oval in Alice Springs.

Menang Woman of the Noongar Nation, Megan Krakouer, organised the vigil held in Boorloo Perth.
She said she hoped it would be an opportunity to stand in “solidarity, kindness, love and respect” with the family of Kumanjayi Little Baby and all those mourning her loss.
“This has hurt the hearts of many right across the country whether you are black, white or brown”, she said.
“It’s about humanity, it’s about kindness… it impacts on many of us, particularly something as horrific as this.”

The body of Kumanjayi Little Baby was found on Thursday 30 April, five days after she went missing from the Old Timers town camp, south of Alice Springs.
The five day search for the 5-year-old was the largest search the Northern Territory has seen in more than two decades.

Jefferson Lewis has been charged with her murder and two other offences that cannot be published due to legal reasons.
The 47-year-old was expected to appear at Alice Springs Local Court via video link from Darwin on Tuesday, but was excused at the request of his lawyer.
A man who unlawfully entered the United States from Haiti has been sentenced to the death penalty for the murder of a store clerk in Fort Myers, as confirmed by prosecutors.
On Thursday, State Attorney Amira Fox revealed that a Lee County grand jury had indicted 40-year-old Rolbert Joachin. The indictment pertains to the April 2 homicide of Nilufa Easmin, a 51-year-old immigrant from Bangladesh, at a Fort Myers gas station in Florida.
Prosecutors allege that Joachin attacked Easmin outside the gas station, repeatedly striking her on the head with a hammer, ultimately leading to her death.
The assault was captured on surveillance footage, which depicted the victim being viciously hit on the head multiple times with a hammer after she confronted Joachin for breaking her car window. The video has been described by authorities as “extremely brutal and incredibly violent.”
Following the attack, Joachin reportedly fled the scene, triggering a widespread search effort across the city. Fort Myers police later apprehended and arrested him.
“This crime was so violent, so extreme, so unwarranted. It is something that once seen, is never to be forgotten. I want to thank the Lee County Grand Jury who watched and reviewed the gruesome evidence in this case and gave their full attention. I know it was not easy. This defendant entered the United States illegally and brutally ended the life of a mother simply at her job, working to provide for her family,” State Attorney Fox said.
“He will be punished to the fullest extent of the law. We will seek the death penalty in this case,” Fox said.
President Donald Trump condemned the violent video, and blasted the Biden administration for releasing the suspect in 2022.
“An Illegal Alien Criminal from Haiti, who was released into our Country by the WORST President in History, Crooked Joe Biden, and the Radical Democrats in Congress, just beat an innocent woman to death with a hammer at a gas station in Florida,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. “The video of her brutal slaying is one of the most vicious things you will ever see.
“This one killing should be enough for these Radical Judges to STOP impeding my Administration’s Immigration Policies, and allow us to END THIS SCAM ONCE AND FOR ALL,” he added.
Joachim first entered the US in August 2022, and was released into the country under former President Joe Biden, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
A federal judge later issued a final order of removal against Joachim, but he was granted Temporary Protected Status, which Trump has described as “a massively abused and fraudulent program.”
He has also blamed what he called “radical liberal district court judges” for blocking efforts by his administration to end it.
While a federal judge issued a final order of removal against him, Joachim was reportedly granted Temporary Protected Status, a program Trump called “massively abused and fraudulent” and difficult to eliminate due to Democratic support.
The suspect then remained in the country after his status expired in 2024.

Embrace the power of dumbbells and resistance bands to maintain your strength.
Achieving a lean and robust physique after the age of 50 largely hinges on preserving muscle mass while staying sufficiently active to control body fat. This is where strength training proves invaluable. Retaining lean muscle enhances your body’s efficiency in handling daily activities, workouts, and overall energy expenditure.
From a coaching perspective, compound exercises offer the best benefits for men. These exercises engage multiple muscle groups simultaneously, incorporate larger movement patterns, and require core stability as your arms and legs perform the tasks. This is crucial beyond 50 since strength should translate into practical, everyday activities. Actions such as lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, squatting, and twisting often occur outside the gym environment.
To effectively build lean muscle, most men benefit from moderate repetition ranges with sufficient weight to ensure the last few repetitions are challenging. Typically, aim for 3 to 4 sets of 8 to 12 repetitions for most exercises, adjusting to fewer reps for heavier strength training and more reps for accessory work. The objective is to perform clean repetitions, maintain consistent tension, and exert enough effort to stimulate the muscles without making every set overly strenuous.
For building lean muscle, most men do well with moderate rep ranges and enough load to make the last few reps feel like work. Think 3 to 4 sets of 8 to 12 reps for most exercises, with slightly lower reps for heavier strength work and slightly higher reps for accessory movements. The goal is clean reps, steady tension, and enough effort to challenge the muscles without turning every set into a grind.
Strength training and cardio also work well together. Strength work helps build and maintain muscle, while cardio supports heart health, conditioning, and calorie burn. That one-two punch helps you stay lean without relying on endless low-calorie dieting or marathon workouts. The six standing exercises below hit the major patterns men need after 50: squat, press, hinge, pull, fly, and rotate.
Goblet Squats
Goblet squats train your quads, glutes, and core while keeping your torso upright under load. Holding the weight at your chest makes your midsection brace hard, so your body doesn’t fold forward as you squat. This move builds lower-body strength and directly supports staying lean because larger muscle groups create greater training demand. It carries over into standing up, climbing stairs, lifting from low positions, and keeping your legs strong enough to support everything else you want to do.
Lower into a squat by bending your hips and knees.
Drive through your feet to return to standing.
Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 to 4 sets of 8 to 12 reps. Rest for 60 seconds between each set.
Best Variations: Pause goblet squats, tempo goblet squats, heel-elevated goblet squats6254a4d1642c605c54bf1cab17d50f1e
Form Tip: Keep the weight close to your chest and drive your knees in line with your toes.
Standing Dumbbell Presses
Standing dumbbell presses train your shoulders and triceps while your core works to keep your ribs down and your torso steady. Pressing overhead from a standing position adds more demand than a seated machine because your body has to stabilize the load from the ground up. This helps build upper-body muscle, shoulder strength, and postural control, all of which matter for staying strong after 50. You’ll feel the carryover when reaching overhead, lifting objects, or bracing under load.
Press the dumbbells overhead until your arms are straight.
Lower the dumbbells back to shoulder height with control.
Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 to 4 sets of 8 to 10 reps. Rest for 60 seconds between each set.
Best Variations: Single-arm dumbbell press, neutral-grip press, alternating dumbbell press
Form Tip: Squeeze your glutes and avoid leaning back while pressing.
Dumbbell RDL
Dumbbell RDLs train your hamstrings, glutes, and back side while your core braces to protect your spine. The hinge pattern matters because men often lose strength through the posterior chain as activity levels drop and sitting time climbs. A strong hinge helps you pick things up, stand taller, and keep your hips doing their share of the work. This exercise also builds lean muscle in the areas that influence posture, athletic movement, and lower-body strength.
Stand with your feet hip-width apart and hold dumbbells in front of your thighs.
Brace your core and soften your knees.
Push your hips back while lowering the dumbbells along your legs.
Stop when you feel a stretch through your hamstrings.
Drive your hips forward to return to standing.
Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 to 4 sets of 8 to 12 reps. Rest for 60 seconds between each set.
Best Variations: Single-leg RDL, staggered-stance RDL, tempo RDL
Form Tip: Keep the dumbbells close to your body and move through your hips.
Dumbbell Bent-Over Row
Dumbbell bent-over rows train your upper back, lats, and biceps while your core holds your torso in position. A strong back helps balance out pressing work and supports better posture, which becomes more important with age. This movement also forces your hips and trunk to stay steady while your arms pull, giving you more total-body value than a supported machine row. Stronger pulling strength carries over into lifting, carrying, yard work, and keeping your shoulders feeling better.
Stand with your feet hip-width apart and hold a dumbbell in each hand.
Hinge at your hips until your torso leans forward.
Brace your core and keep your back flat.
Pull the dumbbells toward your ribs.
Lower the dumbbells with control.
Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 to 4 sets of 8 to 12 reps. Rest for 60 seconds between each set.
Best Variations: Single-arm dumbbell row, chest-supported row, pause row
Form Tip: Pull your elbows back and avoid shrugging your shoulders.
Band or Cable Flyes
Band or cable flyes train your chest while keeping tension on the muscle through a smooth range of motion. They’re more focused than the bigger compound lifts, but they fit well after presses and rows because they add direct upper-body work without beating up your joints. Your core still has to brace in the standing position so you don’t sway or overextend as your arms move. This helps build chest definition, shoulder control, and upper-body balance.
Muscles Trained: Chest, shoulders, core
How to Do It:
Anchor a band or set cable handles at chest height.
Stand tall with one foot slightly in front of the other.
Hold the handles with your arms slightly bent.
Bring your hands together in front of your chest.
Return your arms to the starting position with control.
Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 10 to 15 reps. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.
Best Variations: Low-to-high flyes, high-to-low flyes, single-arm flyes
Form Tip: Keep a slight bend in your elbows and squeeze your chest as your hands come together.
Dumbbell Woodchoppers
Dumbbell woodchoppers train your core through rotation while your hips, shoulders, and legs help guide the movement. Your midsection has to control the weight’s path, which builds strength in the obliques and deep core muscles. This matters for men after 50 because rotation shows up constantly, from swinging a golf club to reaching across the body or turning while carrying something. Woodchoppers add athletic, full-body work while still supporting a leaner, stronger midsection.
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold one dumbbell with both hands.
Bring the dumbbell outside one hip.
Brace your core and rotate the weight across your body.
Finish with the dumbbell above your opposite shoulder.
Return to the starting position with control.
Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps per side. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.
Best Variations: High-to-low woodchoppers, cable woodchoppers, band woodchoppers
Form Tip: Turn through your hips and torso together, rather than twisting your lower back.
How to Stay Lean and Strong After 50

The best results usually come from a plan you can repeat, not a routine that wipes you out for a few days. These standing exercises give you a strong base because they train large muscle groups, demand core control, and keep your body moving through useful patterns. Pair them with a couple of cardio sessions each week and regular daily movement, and you’ll have a much better setup for staying lean without sacrificing strength.
Train compound lifts first: Start with squats, presses, hinges, and rows while your energy is highest. These movements use the most muscle and create the biggest strength-building return.
Use muscle-building rep ranges: Aim for 3 to 4 sets of 8 to 12 reps on most lifts. The final few reps should feel challenging while still allowing clean form.
Add cardio without overdoing it: Mix in brisk walks, cycling, incline treadmill work, or intervals a few times per week. Cardio supports heart health and calorie burn, while strength training helps keep muscle on your frame.
Keep your reps controlled: Slower lowering phases and crisp finishes help create more tension. That tension matters when the goal is lean muscle.
Progress gradually: Add a little weight, a few reps, or an extra set when the movement feels too easy. Small jumps keep your joints happy and your progress moving.
Stick with the basics, train with intent, and keep your weekly routine balanced. Staying lean and strong after 50 becomes much easier when your workouts build muscle, challenge your conditioning, and support how you want to move every day.

A high school in California is grappling with a significant outbreak of tuberculosis, the deadliest disease globally, according to health authorities.
At Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco, health officials report that approximately 20% of tested students and staff have contracted tuberculosis (TB). This respiratory illness, known for its resistance to certain antibiotics and its prevalence in developing nations lacking modern treatments, poses a severe threat.
The San Francisco Department of Public Health disclosed that the outbreak originated in November, with seven confirmed active cases recorded so far.
Additionally, there are 241 cases identified as latent. Individuals with latent TB harbor the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria, but their immune systems are effectively preventing the progression to active infection at this stage.
In a letter dated April 27, health officials reassured the school community that individuals with latent TB infection (LTBI) are not contagious. However, they cautioned that without treatment, latent TB could escalate into active TB, which is a serious health concern.
‘Because of this, it is important for people with latent TB to get treated to protect their long-term health and the health of those around them.’
The school has about 1,200 students and costs about $30,000 a year to attend.
The letter states four active and three suspected cases of TB were reported in February, and an infectious individual was last detected on school grounds on February 19.
Nearly one in five tested students and staff at Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco (pictured above) have tested positive for tuberculosis, health officials announced
Health officials said testing beginning Wednesday and Friday of this week will focus on individuals who were exposed to a recently confirmed TB case or who are part of ‘a small group of individuals with new LTBI cases identified on this round of testing.’
The entire school community also went through testing in March, which health officials told SFGate in a statement ‘indicate a strong reduction in transmission.’
The department also said the new testing is ‘out of an abundance of caution.’
The California Department of Public Health defines a TB cluster as having four or more active cases.
‘This is a big outbreak,’ Dr Monica Gandhi, an infectious disease expert at the University of California San Francisco, told SFGATE.
She also noted that while latent TB does not cause symptoms, it is unusual to see such a high percentage of the school population diagnosed with the condition.
‘Kids in this country do not have latent TB like that,’ she said. ‘Those kind of numbers, of 20 percent having latent TB, are in low-income countries.’
TB infects a few thousand Americans every year and kills around 500, but the threat is much more prevalent in developing countries. Worldwide TB kills 1.2 million people each year.
Around the world, the disease is primarily prevented with the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine, but because the risk of TB in the US is low, BCG is not routinely administered, except for children regularly exposed to people with active TB or for healthcare workers in high-risk areas.

TB is caused by the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria, and it spreads through airborne droplets released when a person with active TB coughs, sneezes, or speaks. Early symptoms include a persistent cough, sometimes coughing up blood, chest pain, unexplained weight loss, fever, night sweats, and loss of appetite.
In later stages, patients may experience severe breathing difficulties and extensive lung damage, and the infection can spread to other organs, including the brain and spine.
TB in the brain, also known as tuberculous meningitis, can damage vital tissues, increase intracranial pressure, and kill nerve cells, potentially leading to paralysis or strokes. Deaths are most often caused by respiratory failure due to bacterial damage to the lungs.
TB in the US was on a steady decline from 1993 until 2020, when the overall number of cases hit an all-time low of 7,170. But in 2021, that number jumped to 7,866.
Prevalence has gone up every year since.
The latest CDC data shows the US provisionally recorded 10,110 TB cases in 2025, down slightly from 10,330 in 2024, which was the highest tally since 2011, when there were 10,471 cases. The majority of 2025 cases (7,858) were in non-US born citizens.
Cases in 2024 were on the rise in 80 percent of US states, which experts have blamed on missed cases and distrust of doctors forged by the Covid pandemic. In California, cases in 2025 hit a 12-year high of 2,150.
State health officials have also had a ‘substantially higher’ rate of disease in 2025 compared to the US overall, with 5.4 infections per 100,000 compared to 3 per 100,000 nationwide.
The demographics of TB have also shifted, starting in 2001. That was the first year the CDC reported more non-US-born citizen patients than US-born, meaning immigrants and travelers were the driving force behind infections.
Active TB can be treated with medications called antitubercular agents, which include Isoniazid (INH), Rifampin (RIF), Pyrazinamide (PZA) and Ethambutol (EMB). These are usually taken for at least six months to ensure bacteria has fully been eliminated.
