DCLM Daily Manna 7 May 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Lulled By His Love

TOPIC: Lulled By His Love (DCLM Daily Manna 7 May 2026)

KEY VERSE: Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her – Hosea 2:14

TEXT: Hosea 2:9-15 (KJV)

9 Therefore will I return, and take away my corn in the time thereof, and my wine in the season thereof, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness.

10 And now will I discover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of mine hand.

11 I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.

12 And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees, whereof she hath said, These are my rewards that my lovers have given me: and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them.

13 And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith the Lord.

14 Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her.

15 And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

There is an interesting story of a medieval monk who gave special invitation for a Sunday evening special service with the theme: “The Love of God.” On the special day, as the shadows fell and light ceased to come in through the cathedral windows, the monk lit a candle and carried it to the crucifix on the altar. First, he illuminated the crown of thorns, next, the two wounded hands, then the marks of the spear wound. As expected, total silence and secret sobs pervaded the atmosphere at which time the monk blew out the candle and left the congregation to ponder on what they had just watched.

God, in our passage, declared His disgust at the lifestyle of His chosen people. He was appalled at how easily they rejected Him. He will punish their disobedience unfailingly without a way of escape. But in the midst of this horrific foreboding, God showed up in His brightness, and in His merciful uniqueness. All the gloom, the threat of punishment and indignation suddenly gave way to the merciful disposition of a God not wanting any to perish. The radiancy of God’s love shone through the cloudy pillars of the Almighty’s indignation. “I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her.”

Our God is merciful. His love is unfathomable. His ways are past finding out. His dealings with His people are not cruel; but like a nursing father, God is ever willing to pardon His erring but repentant children after correcting them. The power of God’s love and mercy overcomes all judgment and indignation. This is conditioned on returning to Him with a humble heart. No wonder, Prophet Jeremiah exclaimed, “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn thee” (Jeremiah 31:3).

God uses every means possible today to attract penitent sinners to Himself. He runs after them even in the wilderness of life. He pursues the disobedient, the hardened of heart, to bring them back home. He speaks with a gentle, calming voice, to encourage lost souls back to the path of rectitude. His love is both surprising as it is irresistible. Oh that you will listen to His voice today, and respond to His invitation. He’s waiting at the door, saying, whosoever will, may come.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The Father’s love is an encouragement to the returning prodigals.

Rhapsody Of Realities 7 May 2026: Grace And Righteousness

Rhapsody Of Realities 7 May 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): Grace And Righteousness

TOPIC: Grace And Righteousness (Rhapsody of Realities 7 May 2026)

For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17).

Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:

God gives us grace according to His purpose for our lives. His grace works from within you to accomplish what He has designed or called you to do. That grace will influence and bless those who are connected to you according to God’s plan.

But if someone isn’t called to be within the influence of that grace, they may not be blessed by it, because they are not assigned to that calling. However, righteousness is not like grace. We all have the same righteousness because our righteousness is the righteousness of Jesus Christ. We’ve been made righteous by His righteousness.

None of us stands before God on the basis of personal righteousness. None of us is accepted by God because of our own efforts. Whether you were born again five minutes ago, or ten years ago, or fifty years ago, the righteousness we all have is the same. You will never be more righteous than you are today, because you have received the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ. You can’t improve it.

Romans 5:17 makes this clear. It says, “…they which receive abundance of grace, and of the gift of righteousness….” There’s only one gift of righteousness and it’s a well-deserved gift for all humanity, following the vicarious sacrifice of the Lord Jesus in our behalf. It’s not earned but received, and it doesn’t grow or increase.

Grace, on the other hand, can increase or be multiplied: “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord” (2 Peter 1:2). God gives more grace, as James 4:6 says, “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” But righteousness is the same for every Christian, being the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for your grace that you’ve granted me for my calling, and for the gift of righteousness by which I stand before you, justified and reign in life through Jesus Christ. I’m conscious of your grace at work in me, and I’m secure in the righteousness of Christ. I live boldly and purposefully, fulfilling your will, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Fresh Developments Unveiled in the Tragic Case of 19-Year-Old College Student’s Murder

0

The case of a 19-year-old college student who vanished three decades ago has taken a somber turn as authorities searched the California residence linked to her murderer.

Paul Flores is serving a 25-year sentence for the killing of Kristin Smart. Despite his conviction, the whereabouts of Smart’s remains continue to elude investigators.

On Wednesday, police executed a search warrant at a property in Arroyo Grande, currently home to Flores’ mother, Susan.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office led the operation, expressing their dedication to reuniting Kristin with her family. They stated, “We remain committed to bringing Kristin home to her family. No further information is available at this time.”

The search operation was initially reported by the “Your Own Backyard” podcast, which has been instrumental in providing investigators with new witness testimonies to aid in locating Smart’s remains.

She went missing from California Polytechnic State University in 1996. She was declared legally dead in 2002.

Prosecutors alleged she was killed during an attempted rape and that the last person she was seen with was Flores, a fellow student.

Both Flores and his father Ruben were arrested in 2021, with prosecutors alleging that her body was buried on Ruben’s property before being moved.

Ruben was acquitted of accessory charges and the property searched on Wednesday is different from the one he lived in at the time of her disappearance.

According to The Los Angeles Times, the search came about after scientists found volatile organic compounds in the soil in her neighbors’ backyard three years ago.

That find, the outlet reported, could be an indication that there is decomposing human remains nearby.

Podcaster Chris Lambert, who runs ‘Your Own Backyard’, was outside the home as the authorities carried out their search.

He told The Tribune: ‘The Flores family owned this house at the time that Kristin went missing, and it was never very thoroughly searched.

‘It’s definitely overlooked. Ruben’s property was the one searched in 2021, which led to the trials.

‘I would assume what they’re doing here is the same thing they did here, which is scanning the ground to look for anomalies underneath, where soil may have been disturbed, dug up, replaced or anything.

‘The clothing she was wearing that night was never found. The clothing that Paul wore that night was never recovered. And so those things could be here as well.’

Flores said he walked Smart home from a party on the night she was last seen alive before parting ways

Investigators long said that Flores was the last person to see Smart alive, he told police he walked her home from the party before they parted ways.

She was reported missing two days later by a friend but a search didn’t begin until days later due to the miscommunication between authorities.

During the investigation, four different search dogs trained to pick up the smell of human remains led police to Flores’ dorm room. No evidence was found in his room.

He had a black eye when investigators interviewed him. He told them he got it playing basketball with friends, who denied his account.

He later changed his story to say he bumped his head while working on his car, according to court records.

The jury heard evidence that a grave was located beneath the deck of the home of Ruben, believed to have previously held Smart’s body.

Prosecutors alleged she was killed during an attempted rape and that the last person she was seen with was Flores

Additionally, the jury heard from two women that, in the years following the murder of Smart, Flores drugged them and engaged in sex acts with them against their will and while they were so intoxicated that they were incapable of giving legal consent.

Flores was unanimously found guilty of Smart’s first degree murder.

In 2024, a judge ruled that Paul Flores must pay just over $350,000 to Smart’s family for costs they incurred after her death.

The family has said it would forgo restitution if Flores would tell them where Smart’s body was.

Flores’ attorney, Harold Mesick, said in 2024 that the defense did not know where her remains are. Flores maintains his innocence.

The county district attorney’s office said it was helping the sheriff’s office with the investigation.

District Attorney Dan Dow said: ‘While those responsible for Kristin’s death – and those with knowledge of her whereabouts – could provide answers at any time, we remain firmly committed to using every lawful tool available to locate Kristin’s remains and to support her family until she is brought home.’

Revitalize Your Leg Strength After 60: 5 Chair Exercises That Outperform Squats

Feeling your legs weaken or become unsteady after turning 60? A fitness trainer has five chair exercises that could be your solution.

Chair exercises offer more than just an easier way to train your legs. They provide support, structure, and a defined goal, enabling you to exercise your lower body with greater precision. For those over 60, this is crucial, as robust leg strength is key to confidently standing, walking, climbing stairs, and navigating your day without feeling off-balance.

While squats are effective, they can be daunting or uncomfortable if balance, knee strength, or mobility are issues. Introducing a chair can transform this experience. With a chair, you can target essential areas such as the quads, glutes, hamstrings, calves, and hips, while making the exercise more accessible. This approach facilitates consistent strength building, eliminating the need to skip lower-body workouts altogether.

In my experience, clients have achieved significant progress by beginning with exercises that offer support and allow them to master each repetition. Once they grasp the technique to control their movements, activate the correct muscles, and maintain stability, leg strength tends to rebound quickly. These five chair exercises are designed to restore the lower-body strength essential for everyday activities, providing enough support to boost your training confidence.

I’ve seen plenty of clients make real progress by starting with supported movements that let them own each rep. Once they learn how to control the descent, drive through the right muscles, and stay steady through their feet, leg strength starts to come back quickly. These five chair exercises help rebuild the lower-body strength you need for everyday movement while giving you enough support to train with confidence.

Sit-to-Stands

Sit-to-stands train your quads, glutes, and core while practicing one of the most important daily movements: getting up from a chair. Each rep teaches your legs to create force from a seated position, which carries directly into standing up from the couch, getting out of the car, or rising from the dinner table. Compared with regular squats, the chair gives you a clear depth and makes the movement easier to control. Keep your feet planted, lean slightly forward, and drive through your legs instead of rocking your body for momentum.

Muscles Trained: Quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, core

How to Do It:

  1. Sit tall near the front edge of a sturdy chair.
  2. Place your feet flat on the floor about hip-width apart.
  3. Brace your core and lean your torso slightly forward.
  4. Press through your feet to stand up tall.
  5. Lower back to the chair with control.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 12 reps. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Assisted sit-to-stands, slow tempo sit-to-stands, no-hands sit-to-stands

Form Tip: Press through your whole foot and avoid plopping back into the chair.

Seated Leg Extensions

Seated leg extensions train your quads, which play a big role in standing, walking, and climbing stairs. The chair keeps your body supported so you can focus on straightening your knee and squeezing the front of your thigh. This makes the exercise especially useful if full squats bother your knees or feel too demanding right now. Slow reps help build control around the knee joint and strengthen the muscles that support daily movement.

Muscles Trained: Quadriceps, hip flexors

How to Do It:

  1. Sit tall with your back away from the chair if possible.
  2. Plant both feet flat on the floor.
  3. Brace your core and straighten one leg in front of you.
  4. Squeeze your thigh at the top of the movement.
  5. Lower your foot back to the floor with control.
  6. Complete all reps, then switch sides.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 10 to 15 reps per leg. Rest for 30 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Paused leg extensions, ankle-weight leg extensions, alternating leg extensions

Form Tip: Lift with control and avoid swinging your lower leg.

Chair-Supported Reverse Lunges

Chair-supported reverse lunges train your glutes, quads, and hamstrings while providing balance support. The backward step usually feels smoother on the knees than stepping forward, and the chair lets you focus on strength instead of worrying about wobbling. Your front leg does most of the work as you lower and stand back up. This helps build the single-leg strength you need for stairs, walking, and catching yourself when your weight shifts.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings, core

How to Do It:

  1. Stand tall behind a sturdy chair and place your hands lightly on the backrest.
  2. Shift your weight into one foot.
  3. Step your opposite foot back into a lunge.
  4. Lower your back knee toward the floor with control.
  5. Press through your front foot to return to standing.
  6. Complete all reps, then switch sides.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps per leg. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Short-step reverse lunges, assisted split squats, slower tempo reverse lunges

Form Tip: Use the chair for balance, not to pull yourself up.

Seated Marches

Seated marches train your hip flexors, core, and lower-body coordination. They look simple, but lifting one knee at a time helps your hips stay active and your midsection keep your posture tall. Stronger hip flexors help with walking, stepping over objects, and climbing stairs. The chair support makes this a great option for building leg strength and control when standing exercises feel too challenging.

Muscles Trained: Hip flexors, quadriceps, core

How to Do It:

  1. Sit tall near the front edge of a sturdy chair.
  2. Place your feet flat on the floor.
  3. Brace your core and keep your chest lifted.
  4. Lift one knee toward your chest.
  5. Lower your foot back to the floor with control.
  6. Alternate legs in a steady rhythm.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps per leg. Rest for 30 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Slower marches, paused knee lifts, banded seated marches

Form Tip: Stay tall and avoid leaning back as your knee lifts.

Standing Chair Calf Raises

Standing chair calf raises train your calves and ankles, which help support balance, walking, and stair climbing. Holding the chair gives you just enough support to move through a full range without feeling unstable. Your calves help push you forward when you walk and control your body when you step down. Stronger lower legs can make daily movement feel steadier and more confident.

Muscles Trained: Calves, ankles, foot stabilizers

How to Do It:

  1. Stand behind a sturdy chair with your hands lightly on the backrest.
  2. Place your feet about hip-width apart.
  3. Brace your core and stand tall.
  4. Rise onto the balls of your feet.
  5. Pause briefly at the top.
  6. Lower your heels back to the floor with control.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 12 to 15 reps. Rest for 30 seconds between each set.

Best Variations: Single-leg calf raises, slower tempo calf raises, paused calf raises

Form Tip: Lift straight up and avoid rolling your ankles outward.

How to Build Stronger Legs From a Chair

Chair exercises work best when you treat them like real strength training. The chair adds support, but your legs still need to do the work. Move with control, use a full range you can handle, and focus on feeling the right muscles fire during each rep. When these movements become part of your weekly routine, they help rebuild the strength and confidence that carry over into walking, standing, stairs, and daily life.

  • Start with control before speed: Slow reps help your legs stay engaged and make each exercise more effective. Rushing usually turns movement into momentum rather than strength work.
  • Use the chair for support, not for assistance: Light contact helps you maintain balance. Pulling hard on the chair takes the load off your legs.
  • Train both seated and standing patterns: Seated moves help isolate key muscles, while standing moves improve balance and coordination. The mix gives you a stronger lower-body foundation.
  • Progress gradually: Add reps, slow the lowering phase, pause longer, or reduce the amount of support you use. Small changes help you keep improving without overloading your joints.
  • Stay consistent across the week: Aim for these exercises three to five days per week. Short, repeatable sessions often beat occasional hard workouts when rebuilding strength after 60.

Keep the reps clean, stay patient, and give your legs regular practice. Strength comes back when your muscles get a steady reason to work.

Government Unveils Gas Export Reservation Scheme Amid Varied Reactions

0

In Brief

  • The policy will begin in July 2027 and bar gas companies from the global spot market until Australians are supplied.
  • Energy Minister Chris Bowen has acknowledged the policy, which will need legislative approval, would be divisive.

The Australian government is set to implement a bold initiative requiring gas exporters to allocate 20% of their product for domestic use. This strategic move, touted as a significant transformation in the country’s gas market, aims to alleviate electricity costs and ensure a stable energy supply for the future, according to Energy Minister Chris Bowen.

This new policy mirrors the successful gas reservation framework employed by Western Australia for over a decade. Slated to take effect in July 2027, the plan mandates that gas producers prioritize Australian consumers before engaging in the often lucrative international spot market. Companies must demonstrate compliance by adequately supplying the local market to gain governmental approval for international sales.

Despite its ambitious goals, the initiative is expected to stir debate within the industry. Minister Bowen has openly recognized the potential for contention but emphasized the policy’s necessity in addressing projected long-term energy shortages.

“This policy is not designed to satisfy everyone,” Bowen remarked to reporters in Sydney. Nonetheless, he stressed that the proposal has been meticulously crafted to balance industry interests with the pressing need for energy security and affordability for Australian households and businesses.

“This is a policy which will obviously not please everyone,” he told reporters in Sydney.

“Often good policy doesn’t, but it’s good policy which puts Australia’s national best interest first.

“It’s going to put downward pressure on prices and what it will also do is, to a certain degree, disconnect Australian gas from spikes in international prices.”

Export contracts signed before the government’s initial announcement of a gas reservation scheme in December 2025 will not be covered under the changes.

Manufacturing Australia, which represents a handful of big companies including BlueScope, Dulux, Cement Australia and Tomago Aluminium, has welcomed the change, describing it as the most significant reform to the nation’s gas market in a generation.

“The federal government is backing a winner here,” chief executive Ben Eade said in a statement.

But the Greens and other advocates who’d been pushing for a 25 per cent tax on gas exports are furious, criticising the government’s decision because it fails to raise any extra revenue.

“They are saying to people, look over here. Don’t look at us, don’t ask us for what you deserve,” Greens senator Steph Hodgkins-May told reporters in Melbourne.

NYC Park Tragedy: Teen Accused of Assault Before Fatal Shooting of Young Boy

0

A teenager has been apprehended on accusations that he delivered the decisive punch to a boy shortly before another youth shot and killed him during a fight at a Queens park last month.

On Wednesday, authorities arrested and charged a 16-year-old for assaulting 15-year-old Jaden Pierre right before he was fatally shot in Roy Wilkins Park on April 16, as reported by Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.

The indictment also involves 18-year-old Zahir Davis, who is alleged to have fired the deadly shot at Pierre amid the violent gang-related altercation, according to prosecutors.

Hailing from Brooklyn, the 16-year-old was reportedly part of a boisterous group of teens that attacked Pierre in the St. Albans park. The gathering had initially come together for a water gun fight, publicized through social media, around 6:15 p.m.

Alongside other youths, the teen allegedly “repeatedly punched, kicked, and verbally abused” the defenseless 15-year-old, officials claimed.

Pierre was allegedly dragged to the ground and brought back to his feet with his back against a fence when the 16-year-old allegedly callously slugged him again in the face, authorities said.

Davis then allegedly retrieved a silver firearm from his bag and shot Pierre in his upper chest. The ninth grader at Eagle Academy in Queens was brought to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The 16-year-old surrendered to authorities on Wednesday after a warrant was put out for his arrest on first-degree attempted gang assault and third-degree assault charges, prosecutors said.

Queens Supreme Court Justice Bruna DiBiase ordered him held on $750,000 bond during his arraignment. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison.

“My son was a sweet kid,” his devastated mom Shantelle Weston, 33, told The Post last month. “He was very respectable and he really did not deserve that, he really did not deserve that at all.”

Investigators said they are continuing to probe and search for other youngsters involved in the assault of Pierre before the shooting.

“The events in a residential park that day grabbed the attention of this City. As alleged, a 15-year-old teen who was ganged up on by multiple teenagers while others watched and took video, was then shot and killed by 18-year-old Zahir Davis,” Katz said in a statement. “We are actively investigating
and searching for the other aggressors.”

The 16-year-old will return to court on June 4.

Davis, who faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted, will be arraigned in the Supreme Court on May 20.

Heartfelt Memories: Tina Turner’s Last Red Carpet Moments Resonate Deeply with Fans

In October 2019, Tina Turner made a dazzling appearance on the red carpet for the Broadway premiere of “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical.” Her radiant smile lit up the event, captured in a memorable photograph where Oprah Winfrey stood affectionately behind her. More images shared by The Mirror depicted Turner walking arm in arm with her second husband, Erwin Bach, while Winfrey accompanied them. Despite being retired for several years, Turner’s joyous presence revealed her enduring appreciation for the public life she once led.

This event would mark the final industry appearance for the iconic singer.

Turner, renowned as one of the most celebrated entertainers, endured a life marked by profound challenges. Her story was shadowed by illness and the harrowing abuse from her first husband and musical partner, Ike Turner. Yet, her later years offered a brighter chapter, highlighted by her spectacular success in mid-life and the deep love she found with her second husband, Erwin Bach. These experiences, among others, were poignantly captured in “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical,” a production she helped shape.

In reflecting on the New York debut of the musical, which first graced London’s West End, Turner expressed her motivation for sharing her life story on stage. “It’s really important to me to have the chance to share my full story,” she stated, as reported by Best Classic Bands. She added, “This musical is not about my stardom. It is about the journey I took to get there. Each night I want audiences to take away from the theater that you can turn poison into medicine.” She achieved that goal beautifully.

Tina Turner was heavily involved in the stage show about her life

The musical enjoyed a successful three-year run on Broadway, earning critical acclaim and numerous Tony Award nominations. Notably, Adrienne Warren, who brought Turner’s story to life, won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical in 2020.

When discussing the New York premiere of the stage play, which originally debuted on The West End in London, Tina revealed the reason that she wanted to see her likeness immortalized through theater. “It’s really important to me to have the chance to share my full story,” she said in a statement (via Best Classic Bands). She continued, “This musical is not about my stardom. It is about the journey I took to get there. Each night I want audiences to take away from the theater that you can turn poison into medicine.” Mission accomplished!

The show, which ran on Broadway for three years, was a critical success. In addition to garnering a slew of Tony Awards nominations, Adrienne Warren, who portrayed the fictional version of Tina, won best leading actress in a musical on Broadway in 2020.

PSG Triumphs Over Bayern in Thrilling 6-5 Aggregate, Secures Spot Against Arsenal in Champions League Final

Paris Saint-Germain clinched their spot in the UEFA Champions League final with a nail-biting aggregate win of 6-5 over Bayern Munich. The intense semi-final unfolded at the Allianz Arena, leaving fans on the edge of their seats.

PSG entered the match carrying a narrow 5-4 lead from their first encounter. They quickly extended this advantage just three minutes into the game in Munich. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia dazzled with a stunning run down the flank, delivering a perfect assist for Ousmane Dembele, who confidently found the back of the net to strengthen PSG’s grip on the match.

Despite being under the management of Vincent Kompany, Bayern Munich struggled to dismantle PSG’s disciplined defense. Star striker Harry Kane found himself effectively neutralized, as the visitors managed to stifle Bayern’s offensive efforts.

Early blow sets the tone

The match wasn’t without controversy. Tensions peaked in the first half when Bayern’s players and fans clamored for a penalty. The appeal came after a clearance hit Joao Neves’ arm inside the penalty area. However, the referee, adhering to the handball laws concerning deflections from teammates, decided against awarding a penalty, sparking a heated debate.

A major flashpoint arrived in the first half when Bayern appealed for a penalty after a clearance struck Joao Neves’ arm inside the box. However, no spot-kick was awarded, with the decision aligned to handball laws involving deflections from team-mates.

PSG control second half

After the break, PSG created the clearer chances, with Desire Doue going close on multiple occasions. Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer kept the hosts in contention with several key saves.

Despite sustained pressure from Bayern late on, PSG maintained control of the tie.

Kane strike not enough

Kane eventually found the net deep into stoppage time, registering his 55th goal of the season, but it proved insufficient to overturn the deficit.

PSG now advance to the final, where they will face Arsenal in Budapest on May 30, as they aim to retain their European crown.

Trump Economic Adviser Warns of Surging Credit Card Spending Amid Economic Concerns

In a recent statement, a top economic adviser to President Trump expressed optimism about the future of the U.S. job market, despite ongoing concerns over rising prices linked to tensions with Iran.

Kevin Hassett, during an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business, shared insights from a meeting with a leader from one of the nation’s largest banks. “Credit card data indicates remarkably high spending levels,” Hassett noted, highlighting the surge in consumer expenditures.

“While gasoline prices are up, consumer spending has increased across various sectors,” he added, suggesting a broader economic resilience.

Hassett forecasted a “robust and stable employment landscape” for the remainder of the year, maintaining a positive outlook.

According to a report from the Commerce Department, consumer spending saw a 1.7 percent rise in March from the prior month. This uptick was largely driven by increased fuel expenses, with gas station sales alone jumping 15.5 percent from February to March.

The effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz since the beginning of the conflict between the U.S. and Iran at the end of February has sent global energy rates skyrocketing. The average cost of a gallon of standard gas in the U.S. was over $4.50 on Wednesday — over a dollar more than a year ago, according to AAA.

Gas prices in the U.S. reached the highest cost per gallon in four years at the end of April, when the price spiked to $4.18.

A study from the New York Federal Reserve published on Wednesday found that these increased fuel prices are particularly having a negative effect on low-income households.

The report found that households earning less than $40,000 a year increased their spending on gasoline the least out of all income bracket groups, indicating that these consumers are buying less fuel to avoid the higher costs.

“Higher-income households have reduced real gas consumption only modestly and increased gasoline spending considerably compared with 2023,” the Fed researchers wrote in the report.

“In contrast, lower-income households increased spending by much less and decreased real consumption by much more, potentially by carpooling or substituting to public transit where available.”
