2025 Sees Significant Decline in Antisemitic Incidents Across US Campuses, ADL Reveals

NEW YORK – In a significant development, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) reported a notable decrease in antisemitic incidents across the United States for 2025, marking the first decline in five years. This reduction is largely attributed to a substantial drop in occurrences on college campuses, according to the ADL.

In 2024, the ADL recorded 1,694 antisemitic incidents on U.S. college campuses, a surge fueled by pro-Palestinian and anti-Zionist student protests linked to the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. However, in 2025, that number plummeted by 66% to just 583 incidents, as colleges and universities, responding to pressure from President Donald Trump’s administration, implemented measures to curtail such demonstrations.

This significant reduction in campus-related incidents was a key factor in the ADL’s latest annual report, released on Wednesday. The report documented a total of 6,274 cases of antisemitic assaults, harassment, and vandalism across the country in 2025. This marks a 33% decrease from the 9,354 incidents reported in 2024, a year that saw record-high numbers.

New York, California, and New Jersey emerged as the states with the highest numbers of antisemitic incidents in 2025, with 1,160, 817, and 687 cases respectively, according to the ADL.

The ADL’s approach to counting these incidents has sparked a heated debate among American Jews and others, revolving around whether strong criticism of Israeli policies and Zionism should be classified as antisemitic. Some critics argue that the ADL’s criteria are overly inclusive.

2025 incidents included 3 killings, record number of assaults

Despite the decrease in total incidents, the ADL’s national director and CEO, Jonathan Greenblatt, said 2025 “was one of the most violent years for American Jews,” with a record-high 203 incidents of physical assault tallied in the audit.

“Numbers that would have shocked us five years ago are now our floor,” Greenblatt said. “People are being murdered because of antisemitism on American soil, and thousands more are threatened.”

Greenblatt was referring to the two Jewish people killed in a May 21 shooting outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., and the 82-year-old Jewish woman who died from injuries sustained in a June 1 firebombing attack at an event in Boulder, Colorado, aimed at raising awareness of Israeli hostages held in Gaza.

Campuses are under scrutiny from groups with varying views

In the ADL’s report for 2024, antisemitic incidents related to Israel or Zionism accounted for 58% of the total, marking the first time since the annual audit began in 1979 that more than half the incidents fit this category. The change arose from widespread opposition to Israel’s intensive military operation in Gaza that was launched after Hamas-led militants attacked southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

In 2025, 45% of all antisemitic incidents were related to Israel or Zionism. The ADL said anti-Israel rallies featuring “extreme anti-Israel rhetoric that crossed the line into antisemitism” decreased significantly — by 67% overall and by 83% on college campuses.

Starting in 2024, the ADL launched a Campus Antisemitism Report Card, assigning grades reflecting its assessment of how colleges address antisemitism and whether they adopt ADL-recommended policies. Seeking to raise pressure on colleges, the ADL filed several lawsuits and — in cooperation with two other Jewish organizations — reached a settlement in a complaint against Pomona College.

“We welcome any decrease in antisemitic incidents on college campuses or in other settings. It is indisputably a good thing, and we hope this is just the beginning of a downward trend,” Greenblatt told The Associated Press via email.

“Yet, let me be very clear: this is not a moment for relief or complacency. Yes, ADL recorded a 66% decline of antisemitic incidents on college campuses in 2025. But here is the critical context: campus incidents in 2025 are still nearly four times higher than they were in 2021.”

In its new report, the ADL says it is “careful to not conflate general criticism of Israel or anti-Israel activism with antisemitism.” But there are gray areas. For example, the ADL contends that vilification of Zionism — the movement to establish and protect a Jewish state in Israel — is a form of antisemitism, yet some Jews are among the critics of Zionism and of the ADL itself.

The ADL’s approach “emerges from their genuine concern that anti-Zionism is a genuine threat to the safety and security of American Jews,” said antisemitism expert Aryeh Tuchman. “There are a lot of people who would disagree with that. … It’s important that there be room for multiple approaches.”

Tuchman formerly led the ADL’s Center on Extremism, the group behind the annual audit, and now is director of the Nexus Center for Antisemitism at the Nexus Project, a watchdog group that promotes a more nuanced definition of antisemitism than the ADL uses.

Responding to the pressure on colleges from the ADL and Trump administration, the Council on American-Islamic Relations launched an “Unhostile Campus Campaign” aimed at ensuring that pro-Palestinian students, faculty, and staff enjoy free speech and academic freedom and are not penalized for their viewpoints.

Schools rated “most hostile” in CAIR’s latest report were Columbia University, the City University of New York, and the University of Michigan.

Worries about antisemitism deepen in Britain and Australia

The new ADL report surfaces amid growing concern about antisemitism elsewhere in the world.

In Britain, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said tougher action is needed against people chanting certain phrases at pro-Palestinian protests, as concerns grew over the safety of British Jews after the stabbings of two Jewish men in London.

The stabbings were the latest in a string of incidents, including recent arson attacks on synagogues and other Jewish sites in London. The U.K.’s senior police officer said British Jews are facing their greatest ever threat, and blamed social media for making antisemitism more mainstream.

— In Australia, a wide-ranging inquiry commission examining antisemitism after a massacre at a Hanukkah celebration heard this week from Jews who said escalating hatred has left them fearful and vulnerable. Fifteen people were killed when two gunmen opened fire at the celebration on Bondi Beach in December. The Commission says there has been a sharp rise in antisemitic incidents nationwide since the Israel-Hamas war began on Oct. 7, 2023.

— According to a recent study by Tel Aviv University, the total of 20 deaths in Australia, Britain and the United States made 2025 the deadliest year for antisemitic attacks since 1994. That’s when the bombing of a Jewish community center in Argentina killed 85 people.

Three employees from Northern Territory’s child protection services have been suspended as part of a government probe into the events leading up to the tragic death of Kumanjayi Little Baby.

Robyn Cahill, the NT’s child protection minister, has requested detailed information from the department concerning their previous engagements with the deceased child’s family.

Cahill reportedly received a delayed briefing on Friday, during which she was informed that the child protection department had been alerted six times about concerns for Kumanjayi Little Baby’s safety in the weeks leading up to her disappearance.

“The staff have been suspended pending an investigation into their actions, or lack thereof, regarding this case,” Cahill stated to the Australian Associated Press.

“I am calling for an independent investigation from someone who is removed from the existing situation so we can have total accuracy and be sure that we are getting the information that we need to get to understand how this failure could happen,” she earlier told Sky News.

Nine.com.au has contacted the Northern Territory’s child protection department for comment.

A full investigation into how the department handled Kumanjayi Little Baby’s case will take place and the NT children’s commissioner has been asked to run an independent investigation.

Nine.com.au does not suggest any wrongdoing by the child protection staff members, only that they have been stood down.

Kumanjayi Little Baby – the name used in line with cultural tradition after her death – vanished from a home in a town camp in Alice Springs on April 25.

Her disappearance triggered a massive land and air search across central Australia until her body was found on April 30.

Jefferson Lewis, 47, has been accused of murdering the five‑year‑old girl near Alice Springs.

He was expected to appear in Alice Springs Local Court yesterday via video link from custody in Darwin but his appearance was excused.

No application for bail was made, and the case was adjourned to July 30.

The alleged murder horrified the tight‑knit community, many of whom spent anxious days scouring creek beds and scrub for the missing girl before her body was found in bushland outside the town five days after she disappeared.

Lewis was arrested at another Alice Springs town camp after being beaten unconscious by locals.

Federal Minister for Indigenous Australians Malarndirri McCarthy told ABC’s 7.30 it was important to remember Kumanjayi was very loved by her family, who were in deep mourning and did not want her death to be turned into a political fight.

First European Hantavirus Case Confirmed: MV Hondius Cruise Passenger Sparks Outbreak Concerns

0

The hantavirus outbreak has reached Europe, as confirmed by authorities, after a passenger from the MV Hondius cruise ship tested positive upon returning home. This concerning development was announced on Wednesday.

Swiss health officials reported that the man had traveled to South America with his wife before his diagnosis. The virus, known for its potential to remain dormant for up to eight weeks, was detected after his return last month.

Following an alert from Oceanwide Expeditions, the cruise line, regarding the virus’s spread—which has resulted in three fatalities and at least five illnesses according to the World Health Organization—the man sought testing at a Zurich hospital.

Details about his condition remain undisclosed, while his wife, who hasn’t exhibited any symptoms, is taking precautionary measures by self-isolating.

Swiss authorities assured the public on Wednesday that “there is currently no risk to the Swiss public.”

However, the news is sparking panic given that the virus appears to be spreading via “human-to-human transmission” and can be dangerous for eight weeks — with the cruise stranded at sea with alarmed countries scared of allowing it to dock.

The virus is usually spread through rodent droppings – but one rare strain, the Andes virus, can spread between people and carries a 40% mortality rate – and it’s likely the culprit behind the outbreak.

Maria Van Kerkhove, the WHO’s director for epidemic and pandemic preparedness and prevention, told reporters Tuesday that “we do believe there may be some human-to-human transmission among very close contacts.”

Three people have died as a result of the outbreak, according to the World Health Organization.

Meanwhile, three suspected patients have been evacuated from the MV Hondius in Cape Verde and are set to travel to the Netherlands, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the WHO Director-General, confirmed Wednesday.

“At this stage, the overall public health risk remains low,” he said.

The ship was stranded in West African waters after being denied permission to dock in Cape Verde due to health concerns.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez granted the vessel permission to dock in the Canary Islands – but the island’s regional leader, Fernando Clavijo, was left furious by the decision.

“I cannot allow it to enter the Canary Islands,” Fernando Clavijo told local media outlet Onda Cero.

“Neither the populace nor the government of the Canary Islands can rest assured because it is clear that the danger to the population is real.”

Clavijo, a conservative pol, has requested a meeting with socialist prime minister Sanchez.

The Madrid government said that, “Spain has a moral and legal obligation to assist these people, among whom are also several Spanish citizens.”

The national government can overrule regional authorities in Spain under its constitution.

FAA Employee Allegedly Plotted Against Former President Trump, Sought Methods to Bring Firearm into Federal Facility, DOJ Reports

A resident of New Hampshire, employed by the Federal Aviation Administration, is under scrutiny for allegedly threatening former President Donald Trump and researching potential illegal activities. Federal prosecutors report that Dean DelleChiaie, 35, from Nashua, scrawled the words “I am going to murder Donald John Trump” on a whiteboard at home while using his government-issued computer to look up methods for smuggling a firearm into a federal building.

According to an arrest affidavit, DelleChiaie sent a threatening email to the White House from his personal Gmail account, stating, “I, Dean DelleChiaie, am going neutralize/kill you – Donald John Trump.” The email accused Trump of actions equating to terrorism, stating, “You decided to kill kids – and say that it was War – when in reality – it is terrorism. God knows your actions and where you belong.”

The U.S. Department of Justice revealed on Tuesday that DelleChiaie faces charges of interstate communication of a threat against the president. Investigators allege he used his work computer in late January to search for information such as “How to get a gun into a federal facility,” previous assassination attempts, public sentiment regarding Trump, and explicitly, “I am going to kill Donald John Trump,” as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Hampshire.

In early February, Secret Service agents questioned DelleChiaie, who reportedly confessed to conducting these searches on his work computer. He also acknowledged owning three firearms, including a handgun secured in a safe and a hunting rifle, according to the affidavit. DelleChiaie cited his dissatisfaction with the current administration, highlighting issues such as the election, presidential pardons, and the ‘Epstein files,’ as motivating factors for his actions.

Secret Service agents interviewed DelleChiaie in early February and he allegedly admitted to carrying out the searches on his work computer and to owning three firearms, including a handgun he kept inside a safe at his home and a “hunting rifle,” the affidavit says. DelleChiaie claimed he was “motivated” to conduct the searches because he was “upset with the current administration based on multiple subjects, including the election, presidential pardons, and the ‘Epstein files,’” according to the affidavit.

Between Jan. 20 and Jan. 29, DelleChiaie allegedly used his FAA computer to search the following topics:

How to get a gun into a federal facility

Previous assassination attempts against the President

Percentage of the population that wants the President dead

Countdown timers/clocks estimating the President’s death

The location of the Vice President’s home and the names and ages of his children

The location of the Secretary of War’s home and the names and ages of his children

After making the searches, DelleChiaie allegedly took his computer to the FAA’s Information Technology (IT) department and requested that IT delete his search history from the device. The FAA’s IT department reported the “concerning searches,” and the FAA contacted the USSS, per the affidavit.

A federal agent and Nashua police officer visited DelleChiaie at his home and allegedly observed the following statements written on a whiteboard attached to his refrigerator door:

Calm down more

1-month no arrest by police

Go DC to office if they do not action

Say arrest me “I am going to murder Donald John Trump – per defense of oath.”

DelleChiaie claimed he had “no interest” in carrying out an assassination, but he did search about assassinations “because it was part of the cycle that was going on in his mind,” according to the affidavit. “DelleChiaie could not provide a reason other than that as to why he searched about assassinations or attempted assassinations,” the document adds.

DelleChiaie allegedly mentioned that he was depressed and “sees a therapist.” He claimed he was in “Ketamine therapy to try to get better,” but admitted he often drinks to “black out” and that he has been known to drink every day, along with using cannabis and psychedelic mushrooms, according to the affidavit.

DelleChiaie faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted. He is due in court on May 19 for a status hearing.

Fawlty Towers Actress Claire Nielson Passes Away at 89

Claire Nielson, known for her memorable role alongside John Cleese in a classic Fawlty Towers episode, has passed away at 89.

In the show, Claire portrayed the stylish Mrs. Hamilton, who checks into the Fawlty Towers hotel with her American spouse during the series’ second season.

Her on-screen partner, played by Bruce Boa, engages in a famous confrontation with Basil over the preparation of a Waldorf salad.

These comedic moments unfold in the second series, where an irate Basil ends up ejecting all the guests from his hotel.

The episode humorously examines the perceived cultural divide between America and Britain during the 1970s.

Claire had previously spoken about her agent’s fury after she told them she had accepted the role as they feared playing such the part would ruin her career.

Tributes poured in for Claire soon after the news broke.

Fans of the iconic TV series wrote: ‘rip to the wonderful Claire Nielson, actress from Fawlty Towers’ Waldorf Salad episode, among many other UK TV appearances.’

‘Sad news. Claire Nielson was part of the charm that made Fawlty Towers so memorable. Thoughts with her family and fans.’

‘R.I.P. Claire Nielson of Fawlty Towers, Scotch & Wry and Rab C. Nesbitt.’

While growing up in Glasgow in the 1940s, Claire was bitten by the acting bug after she watched a performance of Swan Lake.

She previously said: ‘I remember thinking: “That’s where I belong, not in this sooty city”.’

Claire went on to play the female parts in The Two Ronnies sketches.

She also appeared on The Dick Emery Show and Upstairs Downstairs, as well as Scottish Hogmanay show Scotch and Wry.

She appeared alongside Michael Caine and Trevor Howard as Barbara Grant in the 1971 film Kidnapped and also starred in Taggart and Monarch Of The Glen.

Claire was a single mother to daughter Peggy after her marriage to actor and producer Dennis Vance broke down.

In 1994, she married long-time partner, actor Paul Greenwood, who played PC Michael Rosie Penrose in the BBC sitcom Rosie.

She went on to became an accomplished painter and wrote and illustrated a children’s book called The House At Strone.

Written by two generations of one family with illuminating case studies, tips and practical ideas – as well as a sensitive look at emotional issues – this lightly humorous book has a user-friendly, lively design and hilarious cartoons.

In 2022, Claire spoke to the Stratford-upon-Avon Herald about the great comic actors she has worked with in her life, such as Cleese, The Two Ronnies and Les Dawson.

She said: ‘I loved working with Les because he was such a darling man. Many people didn’t realise he was also very clever – extremely well-read and a brilliant pianist.’

Claire had said that after hours of rehearsing sketches until they were word-perfect, Les would head into the BBC club and have a few pints.

That would often result in him then improvising when filming began.

She laughed: ‘My cues weren’t there, which was a bit terrifying, but he was so wonderful I didn’t mind.’

And of the two Ronnie’s she spoke about how different they were to work with.

She said: ‘Big Ronnie [Barker] was shy and quite highly strung, while Little Ronnie [Corbett] was much more confident.’

Claire was born to Dr. John Isbister and his wife, Peggy, on April 8, 1937, in Glasgow, Scotland. She died on April 29 but her death was publicly confirmed on Wednesday.

Viral ‘Speedrunning’ Trend: NYC Teens Charged in Daring Church of Scientology Break-In

0

On Saturday, a Church of Scientology facility in New York City became the latest location targeted in a series of “speedrunning” events that have recently gained traction on social media.

According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), a group of young individuals reportedly forced their way through a locked door at the church situated on West 36th Street in Manhattan around 4:30 p.m.

Once inside, the group allegedly caused chaos by hurling objects, damaging property, and injuring a staff member in the process.

This incident is part of a growing trend driven by TikTok, where participants document their attempts to dash through Church of Scientology buildings, capturing how far they can go before being intercepted.

Videos tied to the trend have racked up millions of views, including clips from Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles showing teens running through a Scientology information center.

“I saw this man who was dressed in this neon green inflatable costume, and him and a couple of his friends went inside the building from the front door when it was open,” one witness told The Associated Press. “They passed the security guard. They passed multiple workers.”

Statement from Church of Scientology

Videos from these alleged “speedruns” captured throngs of mostly adolescents rushing through the church building.

Authorities have responded to multiple complaints tied to the trend, while the Church of Scientology has accused participants of crossing legal lines and putting staff at risk.

“Some online have referred to these incidents as ‘speed running.’ In reality, they involve organized trespasses into religious and public information facilities for social media attention,” the church said in its statement.

“Church facilities are peaceful spaces designed to welcome parishioners, visitors and members of the public. Turning them into targets for viral stunts is not journalism, protest or civic activity. It is trespass, harassment, and disruption of religious spaces.

“The Church welcomes lawful visitors. It does not welcome individuals forcing entry, damaging property, threatening or injuring people, or targeting religious facilities for online attention,” it added.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Church of Scientology for additional information.

Witness speaking with the Associated Press

No arrests have been made in connection to Saturday’s incident, and the NYPD said that they are continuing to investigate.

Following a similar “large-scale incident” in Los Angeles on April 25, church officials said they were “reviewing all available remedies” and had made reports to law enforcement.

“There’s a certain mystique about it,” another witness told The Associated Press. “I do get entertainment out of the speed runs. I think it’s pretty funny to see them break in. I know that technically it’s not allowed, but it kind of adds to the lore of this place.”

…I think it’s pretty funny to see them break in.

The trend appears to have been started by an 18-year-old content creator.

In March, he posted a video on Instagram, which has since been removed, showing himself breaching the property. @swhileyy, who has not been publicly identified, has since distanced himself from the trend.

“I do not condone what I did, even though I didn’t break any laws,” he told the Hollywood Reporter last week. “I never once in any video or any comment section or anywhere promoted the idea of running through there or beating my record.”

Founded by the sci-fi writer L. Ron Hubbard in the 1950s, Scientology has long been the subject of public scrutiny. Many celebrities, including Tom Cruise, Danny Masterson and Leah Remini, are among the individuals who have been involved with the Church of Scientology.

Bear Attack Shocks Visitors on Mystic Falls Trail: Urgent Safety Tips for Exploring Yellowstone

0

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. — Two individuals sustained injuries following a bear encounter on a frequently visited trail close to Yellowstone National Park’s famous Old Faithful geyser, according to park authorities on Tuesday.

Officials reported that the incident occurred as a single attack on Monday afternoon along the Mystic Falls Trail.

A significant section of the park, encompassing the Midway Geyser Basin, was temporarily shut down for investigation. This closure affects at least five trails and multiple backcountry campsites.

While park representatives confirmed the involvement of one or more bears, they did not specify the species. Yellowstone is home to both grizzly and black bears, which can sometimes be challenging to distinguish. Grizzlies tend to be larger and more aggressive, potentially reaching twice the size of black bears, which are typically darker in color.

Details about whether the injured parties were hiking as a group or received hospital treatment remain undisclosed, as stated by Yellowstone spokesperson Ashton Hooker.

Yellowstone gets more than 4 million visits by tourists annually and attacks by grizzlies or black bears are rare.

In September, a hiker suffered injuries to his chest and arm in an attack on the Turbid Lake Trail northeast of Yellowstone Lake, and a grizzly killed a woman just west of Yellowstone in 2023. The last fatal bear mauling in the park was in 2015 when a 63-year-old Billings, Montana man was killed while hiking alone in the park’s Lake Village area.

The fate of bears that attack humans is typically dictated by the circumstances of the encounter.

Following the 2015 fatal attack, officials captured and killed an adult female grizzly because it had eaten part of the victim’s body and hid the rest, which is not normal behavior for a bear defending its young.

By comparison, last year’s attack on the Turbid Lake Trail happened during a surprise encounter between the victim and the bear. The animal’s reaction was considered natural, so it was not relocated or killed.

The heavily traveled Mystic Falls trail where Monday’s attack occurred includes a loop that leads to a 70-foot (21-meter) tall waterfall. The trailhead is about two miles (three kilometers) northwest of Old Faithful.

In an unexpected twist, EastEnders viewers found themselves entertained when the BBC soap opera paid homage to the Australian series, Neighbours. This came as a delightful surprise, given that the two shows, both of which premiered in 1985, typically inhabit separate narrative realms.

Neighbours, which ended its journey once more last year after a stint on Amazon Prime Video, has long been cherished by fans. Yet, it was on a typical Tuesday episode of EastEnders that the beloved Aussie soap received a nod, subtly bridging the gap between these two iconic television worlds.

EastEnders viewers were left amused when the BBC soap unexpectedly shared a tribute to Neighbours.

The Aussie soap, which began in 1985 like EastEnders, concluded for a second time last year after a run on Amazon Prime Video.

Despite the two shows existing in very different worlds, Tuesday’s (May 5) episode of EastEnders featured a nod to Neighbours.

It happened as Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) and Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorp) spoke at a community campaign event for local elections.

Oscar Branning secretly swapped Ian’s speech with a ‘funnier’ one, leaving the soap stalwart flustered in the process.

In his panic, Ian began quoting lines from Neighbours’ iconic theme tune as the audience giggled on.

EastEnders fans were left 'cackling' after the show's unexpected reference to axed Aussie soap Neighbours on Tuesday's episode featuring Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt)

He said: ‘I mean, we’re all friends and neighbours. And let’s face it, we all need good neighbours. And with a little understanding, you can find the…’

‘Landing!’, as Alfie Moon soon chimed in to complete the familiar sentence.

One viewer wrote on X: ”That Ian Beale shoutout about “good neighbours…”

‘I have always loved the way #Eastenders and #Neighbours started a month apart and have co-existed alongside each other for 40 years.’

Another penned: ‘I was not prepared for the direction this speech took. Cackling #EastEnders.’

A third remarked: ‘#EastEnders love a good Neighbours mention every now and then #Neighbours.’

A fourth agreed: ‘I did like that shoutout to #Neighbours in today’s #EastEnders. But is #Neighbours a tv show in Walford and that’s why everybody laughed?’

A fifth commented: ‘Always enjoy a #Neighbours s/o on #EastEnders…’

The soap’s fans were left stunned earlier this week after spotting a former Walford resident making a surprise appearance in hit US medical drama The Pitt.

Actor Zack Morris, 27, who played Keegan Baker in EastEnders from 2017-2022, made his debut as patient Jackson Davis in the HBO show’s second season.

His law student character was brought into the emergency room after an outburst led to him being diagnosed with Schizophrenia.

EastEnders fans went wild after realising it was in fact British born soap star Zack on screen with an impressive American accent.

One fan shared a clip of him in one scene to TikTok with the caption: ‘being a British The Pitt fan means recognised random EastEnders actors in the show.

They said: ‘I THOUGHT I WAS TRIPPING OMG I’m so glad someone else caught this’: ‘I was like KEEGAN?!!! The most niche crossover ever’

‘Zottu I was just as surprised as u when i saw Keegan pop up on the show!!! I guess their acting is starting to take off now since they are landing roles in big shows!!!’.

This is not the first US role for Zack who also appeared in Netflix’s Goosebumps and adventure movie The Bluff opposite Priyanka Chopra.

EastEnders airs on BBC One and iPlayer.
