Trump Nominates Dr. Nicole Saphier for Surgeon General Role

0

On Thursday, former President Donald Trump revealed his decision to nominate Dr. Nicole B. Saphier for the position of Surgeon General.

Dr. Saphier, known for her work as a radiologist and her role as a medical contributor on Fox News, has been chosen to replace Casey Means. Means, a wellness influencer closely associated with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., had faced significant scrutiny during her Senate confirmation hearing in February. Senators questioned her controversial views on vaccines, birth control, and pesticides.

Trump took to Truth Social to express his confidence in Saphier, stating, “Nicole is a STAR physician who has devoted her career to assisting women dealing with breast cancer and advocating for early cancer detection. She has also worked extensively with both men and women on various cancer diagnoses and treatments.”

He continued, “She is an INCREDIBLE COMMUNICATOR, simplifying complex health issues for the American public. Dr. Nicole Saphier is poised to make significant contributions to our nation and help, ‘MAKE AMERICA HEALTHY AGAIN.’”

‘She is also an INCREDIBLE COMMUNICATOR, who makes complicated health issues more easily understood by all Americans. Dr. Nicole Saphier will do great things for our Country, and help, “MAKE AMERICA HEALTHY AGAIN.”

‘Congratulations Nicole, our Country has long been waiting for you!’

A biography of her on Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s website also lists the physician as the director of breast imaging at the institute’s imaging center in Monmouth, New Jersey.

The surgeon general of the United States serves as the country’s leading figure on public health. The Department of Health and Human Services calls the surgeon general the ‘nation’s doctor.’

The position oversees the US Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps, a group of officers who are public health professionals.

Saphier went to medical school at the Ross University School of Medicine and completed her residency training at Maricopa Integrated Health Systems, with a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic.

She is board-certified in diagnostic radiology and lists her specialties as breast imaging, CT scans and ultrasounds.

Saphier was among public figures who falsely claimed in 2022 that the CDC was seeking to mandate that students receive Covid-19 vaccines despite the agency’s inability to do so.

That decision is left up to states and individual jurisdictions.

Saphier first tweeted the claim, which was then picked up and amplified by news networks and social media users.

The physician has written several books, including the 2020 one titled Make America Healthy Again, which went on to become RFK Jr’s health movement motto.

The book discussed preventing chronic disease by addressing diet and exercise.

Her 2021 book Panic Attack criticized Covid-era restrictions and school closures.

Her latest book, 2024’s Love, Mom: Inspiring Stories Celebrating Motherhood, is a collection of first-person stories from mothers about motherhood.

Saphier is Trump’s third pick for the top health spot.

The president first nominated Janette Nesheiwat last year. The White House withdrew her nomination and put forward Means in her place.

However, Means, a popular online wellness personality, faced scrutiny in her hearing when lawmakers questioned her views on vaccines and her medical credentials.

Trump had written earlier on Thursday on Truth Social: ‘Casey will continue to fight for MAHA on the many important Health issues facing our Country, such as the rising childhood disease epidemic, increased autism rates, poor nutrition, over-medicalization, and researching the root causes of infertility, and many other difficult medical problems.’

Means had echoed many of RFK Jr’s more controversial stances, including that autism may be caused by childhood vaccines, a view she shared on a Joe Rogan podcast episode last year.

And doctors had previously told Daily Mail that Means was ‘grossly underqualified’ — as she would have been one of only a handful of surgeons general to not have an active medical license and would have been the only one to have not finished her full medical training.

Unraveling Wisconsin’s Unique Speed Limit: Discover the Fascinating Reason Behind This Local Traffic Rule

0

It’s not a mistake.

In a bid to grab drivers’ attention, a county in Wisconsin has implemented an unconventional speed limit of 17.3 mph within a specific high-traffic zone.

Authorities in Outagamie County have introduced this peculiar speed limit at their Recycling and Solid Waste facility. This site is bustling with trucks, contractors, and local residents, creating a busy and potentially dangerous setting.

County officials explain that this precise figure wasn’t chosen randomly — it’s a strategic move meant to engage drivers’ minds.

17.3 mph speed limit sign along road

Motorists in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, are doing double-takes since the Recycling & Solid Waste facility decided to post a distinctive 17.3 mph speed limit sign in the vicinity.

“Why 17.3? Because it makes you pause. It makes you look twice,” officials said in a social media post announcing the change. The goal, they say, is to snap drivers out of “autopilot” and force them to pay closer attention to speed and safety while behind the wheel.

The site sees steady traffic from large hauling vehicles and smaller passenger cars, often moving in tight quarters.

The county believes the unconventional speed limit is a small change that will get drivers to slow down, stay alert and watch out for others.

Whether it catches on elsewhere remains to be seen, but for now, 17.3 mph is turning heads in Wisconsin.

“Worked last weekend when I was there. Made us laugh,” one user replied to the post.

Other users, however, were skeptical of the move.

“Sounds like something outagamie would do,” another user wrote. “Plus you’ll get speeding for 17.4 and impeding traffic at 17.2, everyone gonna be paying up.”

Shocking Lawsuit: Roblox Accused of Enabling Predator’s $1K Plot to Abduct and Assault Teen

0

A young woman has initiated legal action against Roblox, Discord, and Uber after enduring a horrifying ordeal in which a repeat predator allegedly exploited these platforms to groom her at the age of 15. The predator reportedly paid a driver to transport her from Indiana to his residence in New Jersey, where she was confined in a small, damp room and subjected to repeated assaults, according to the lawsuit.

Now 19, the plaintiff, whose identity remains undisclosed, contends that Roblox, a video game platform, and Discord, an online messaging service, neglected warnings about the predator’s past misconduct. She argues that the platforms failed in their duty to effectively ban him, allowing him continued access to target minors.

The lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, also implicates Uber, alleging the company has not adequately trained its drivers on the dangers associated with arranging off-platform rides for minors.

Requests for comments from Roblox, Discord, and Uber by The Post have yet to receive responses.

In the months leading up to the teenager’s abduction and assault, users of Roblox and Discord reportedly raised concerns about an individual operating under the username “DoctorRofatnik.” The lawsuit details how users shared numerous screenshots depicting him attempting to engage in inappropriate conversations with minors.

In one message, “DoctorRofatnik” – the creator of a popular Roblox game – told a 12-year-old girl, “You’re the reason why I’m gonna end up behind bars,” and “You’re 12…soon I’ll corrupt you beyond your wildest dreams,” the suit said.

In January 2022, The Guardian published a detailed expose on “DoctorRofatnik” and his predatory behavior, including sending sexual messages to multiple underage girls.

Yet Roblox and Discord failed to conduct adequate investigations into the user, allowing him to skirt around platform bans by remaking his accounts and transferring ownership of his video game to other users so he was still paid by Roblox, according to the suit.

In January 2022, the teen plaintiff reached out to “DoctorRofatnik” – a then-23-year-old New Jersey man named Arnold Castillo – as a fan of his video game on Roblox, according to the lawsuit.

Castillo invited her to join his Discord messaging channel, where they soon exchanged phone numbers and started texting and speaking on the phone for hours at a time, per the suit.

Much of that time was spent with Castillo attempting to convince the young girl that the grooming allegations against him were false – and the plaintiff found his denial convincing, especially since he pointed out he was still able to use both Roblox and Discord, the suit said.

Castillo commissioned the teen to make artwork for his video game, and soon started sending her gifts, including McDonald’s deliveries to her Indiana home via DoorDash, artist tools and a tablet computer, altogether worth thousands of dollars, according to the lawsuit.

Over the following months, Castillo sent the young girl sexual messages that discussed showering with her; saying he wanted to “make love” to her and “have kids;” discussed “fingering” her and oral sex; and talked about her “hymen,” the suit said.

In April 2022, Castillo said, “Now I just need to make you a woman in the bedroom,” according to the suit. When the girl expressed concerns that she might be too young for sex, Castillo said, “[Y]ou’re not,” adding that he would “deflower” her, the suit said.

Between April and May 2022, Castillo used the Uber app to contact a driver about arranging an off-platform ride – agreeing to pay him $1,000 via CashApp to drive the young girl from her home in Indiana to his New Jersey residence, a roughly 10-hour drive, according to the suit.

Upon her arrival, Castillo confined the girl to a “tiny, dank room” in a building next to his residence, with only a dirty twin mattress lying on the floor, where he controlled her movements and her access to food and water, the suit said.

He raped the teen girl multiple times and used Uber to have others attempt to purchase the “Plan B” pill to prevent her from becoming pregnant, along with hair dye in an effort to disguise the missing girl, whose family was frantically searching for her, per the suit.

Law enforcement eventually found the girl after they linked a new log-in to her Instagram account to Castillo’s address, where they found Castillo with three condoms on him and immediately arrested him, according to the lawsuit.

He is currently serving a 15-year sentence in federal prison, after he pleaded guilty in 2023 to Transportation of a Minor with Intent to Engage in Criminal Sexual Activity and Coercion and Enticement of a Minor.

“A dangerous predator was able to groom, traffic, and repeatedly rape our young client because these Big Tech companies refused to take the simple steps necessary to operate safely,” Alexandra Walsh, an attorney at Anapol Weiss helping lead nine federal lawsuits against Roblox, told The Post in a statement.

“This lawsuit aims to hold these companies accountable for what happened to this young girl, and hopefully to prevent other children from suffering such horrible abuses,” she added.

The lawsuit alleged the plaintiff has suffered “unimaginable harm,” including emotional distress, psychological trauma and mental anguish – adding that “[h]er innocence has been snatched from her forever.”

It’s just the latest lawsuit accusing Roblox of allowing child sexual exploitation to run rampant on its platform.

Last September, the mother of a 15-year-old boy who killed himself filed the first wrongful death suit against Roblox and Discord, alleging the apps’ lack of guardrails allowed her son to be sexually coerced by an adult predator into sending explicit photos.

Roblox’s video game site is extremely popular among young users, with millions of kids using the platform to play games and message their friends.

In 2024, it reported an average of 82.9 million daily active users – with roughly 56% of them between the ages of 5 and 16.

The video game site has rolled out age-based kid and teen accounts with parental controls and other protections in an attempt to clamp down on illicit activity, including sexual messages between adults and kids.

Critics have raised concerns that children and adults can easily lie about their age when making an account.

The lawsuit alleged many predators on Roblox do not even bother hiding that they are using the platform to hunt children, with usernames like “@Igruum_minors” and “@RavpeTinyK1dsJE.”

Exclusive: Matfen Hall Summit Seals Major Deal for Newcastle United – Transfer Updates, Eddie Howe’s Future, and Stadium Plans Unveiled

0

Newcastle United’s leadership, including the owners, top executives, and head coach Eddie Howe, are set to convene at Matfen Hall this week for their yearly ‘off-site’ meeting. The gathering is expected to tackle significant club matters.

Following a lackluster Premier League season that sees Newcastle languishing in 14th place, the upcoming months will be crucial. There’s uncertainty about the fate of key players, alongside numerous unresolved off-field challenges that need addressing.

Last year, our chief football correspondent, Craig Hope, was present at the historic mansion where discussions about potential stadium expansions took place. Yet, over a year later, there’s been little tangible advancement in those plans.

1. Stadium Dilemma: Stay or Relocate?

A primary topic on the agenda is for Newcastle’s executives to gain insight from the Saudi Public Investment Fund, the club’s majority owners, regarding their plans for the stadium. The options are either enhancing the existing St James’ Park or constructing a cutting-edge new facility.

This does not mean they leave Matfen Hall’s grand Morning Room and the club prepare an even grander announcement – here is the new stadium, everyone! Rather, it is more about the direction of travel.

If Yasir Al-Rumayyan, who is PIF governor and club chairman, indicates which way the ownership want to go – new stadium or develop St James’ – that gives chief executive David Hopkinson and his team clarity on the focus of their work. The other option, and this is far from ideal, is that they ask for more information and time before making a decision.

Last year, the summit was given a detailed presentation and shown a video of how a new 65,000-capacity stadium would look. The expectation then, inside the club, was that a new build on Leazes Park was about to be sanctioned. That PIF approval did not come, however.

Another year of feasibility studies and investigations have followed, and Hopkinson has even explored an alternative site to Leazes Park in recent weeks. He and chief operating officer Brad Miller now believe, at the very least, all of the information is available for the club to determine what avenue they will venture down.

Only then can true, tangible progress be made, even if big questions still need to be answered over who and how the project will be financed.

CRAIG HOPE’S VERDICT: Make a decision! We were told this was coming in ‘early 2025’. Well, it’s now mid-2026 and the delay has not helped the club from an optics or financial perspective. To announce a new stadium or an extra 8,000-10,000 seats at St James’ would signal ambition. Right now, to borrow a word Howe used last year, it feels like ‘limbo’.

The benefits from an announcement alone are huge, and the financial reward down the line is what will make the difference in bridging the gap to the top clubs. Don’t forget, it is the club’s stated ambition to be among the best in the world by 2030.

2. STAY OR GO (Howe)?

This, it should be stressed, is not a case of Howe making a plea for his job and PIF deciding there and then if he stays as head coach. It is far more nuanced than that.

Howe wants to remain and lead the rebuild, and Hopkinson and sporting director Ross Wilson share that desire. There is no indication that PIF and Al-Rumayyan think any differently, although this will always be something of an unknown.

Rather, this meeting is about reviewing the performance of the past season and looking at solutions to the issues that have made it a difficult campaign. Only after this open, in-person exploration will all sides have a better feel for what is best going forward. Even then, it could be a case of reviewing the situation again at the end of the season.

So, for now, there is doubt as to the identity of Newcastle’s head coach next season. The likelihood is it will be Howe, but this summit allows all parties to learn a little bit more about each other’s thinking, ambition and motivation. For Howe, it is both a chance to convince and be convinced.

CRAIG HOPE’S VERDICT: Howe staying is best for Newcastle. He should leave the meeting having been reassured over the club’s ambition and the mechanics of how they achieve their goals in the short and long term. Equally, he must prove to the hierarchy that he still has the energy and drive to deliver on that, and everything I’m told is that he is more determined than ever to get the team back on track next season.

He has earned the right to lead a summer rebuild, given he is the overriding reason why the club went on an accelerated journey from 19th to fourth, qualified for the Champions League (twice) and won a first domestic trophy in 70 years, all in less than four years of Saudi ownership.

He is an elite coach who deserves to be afforded one sticky season, especially given the mitigation of last summer’s transfer window, a failure in part because PIF allowed the club to enter into it without a sporting director or chief executive. Outgoing sporting director Paul Mitchell staying in post through June bordered on negligence by the ownership.

There was also the Alexander Isak saga, which disrupted preparations and led to panicked buys in the last week of the window when he was belatedly sold to Liverpool on deadline day.

3. TRAINING GROUND

As revealed by Newcastle Confidential in January, the club are set to announce a new £200million training ground on land at Woolsington, near Newcastle Airport. This meeting should finalise the details of how those plans will look, with the financing of the project confirmed.

Once everything is signed off by PIF, the club can push ahead with paperwork and prepare for how the biggest announcement of the Saudi ownership to date will look.

CRAIG HOPE’S VERDICT: This, perhaps even more so than the stadium, is important in sending a message to players, agents and rival clubs. The training ground, after all, is where players spend the majority of their existence.

At present, Newcastle’s facility is too cramped, with too much of it outdated, and does not have the same ‘wow factor’ of others. It ranks among the bottom third, if not worse, in the Premier League, despite efforts to improve it over the past four years.

We talk a lot about optics in football, and plans for a new training ground are the quickest way to signal ambition and confirm the ownership’s commitment. Ahead of a busy summer window when prospective signings will be a looking for a reason to join (in the absence of Champions League football), being able to point to drawings of a state-of-the-art training ground would be most helpful, even if it would be at least two years from completion.

4. REVENUE GROWTH

This is Hopkinson’s first off-site summit and he will present to PIF a progress report of everything he has done since arriving in the autumn, which is a lot. Crucially, though, it is commercial growth that is his key remit. He has already made inroads and, just this month, a training-ground partnership with KNOX Hydration was announced, worth £18m over three years.

And here is the big breaking news out of Matfen Hall that we can bring you… a lucrative agreement thought to be worth more than £10m has been agreed with French food giant Sodexo. A new long-term deal for the provision of food and drink at St James’ Park has been agreed, in what will be a boost to the club’s revenue streams.

This agreement was brokered between Hopkinson and Sodexo CEO Thierry Delaporte, who won the account after beating competition from three other global bidders.

The partnership will see St James’ positioned as Sodexo’s ‘Global Showcase Account’, with the French company deploying their latest technology and enhanced offerings to elevate the guest experience inside the stadium. Only the finest Bovril and mince pies will suffice for the good folk of Tyneside!

Chief executive David Hopkinson is making his mark on the commercial side

Chief executive David Hopkinson is making his mark on the commercial side

CRAIG HOPE’S VERDICT: Hopkinson has done a lot of talking since he arrived and that was needed – a front-of-house presence to engage with the outside world, especially given owners who exist in the background. The Canadian is dynamic and carries C-suite cache, but he also has to deliver.

Of late, with KNOX and now Sodexo, we’re seeing his commercial background bring important deals to the club’s portfolio, building on what were encouraging numbers in the latest annual accounts of a 44 per cent increase to £121m in commercial income.

Hopkinson knows that such deals are the quickest way to push back on the parameters of the Premier League’s and UEFA’s financial rules and help performance on the pitch. He believes he can add £100m to the above figure. Now for the next deal…

5. RECRUITMENT

Like Hopkinson, this is Wilson’s first ‘Saudi summit’ since his arrival in September. He, and others including Howe, will detail what has happened with regards recruitment in the past 12 months. The largely misspent £250m of last summer must be addressed.

At least one of last year's striker arrivals, Yoane Wissa (left) and Nick Woltemade (right), could be sold this summer after £250m was largely misspent

At least one of last year’s striker arrivals, Yoane Wissa (left) and Nick Woltemade (right), could be sold this summer after £250m was largely misspent

But, beyond that, it is about identifying a strategy for this summer and learning what the ownership are willing to support. There is no definite ‘budget’, and we already know some star players will have to be sold to unlock spending from a financial-rules perspective. But the message from the hierarchy is likely to be one of instructing those on the ground to find a way to spend to the maximum within the rules.

The model for incomings, though, is about to change, and Wilson will present on how identifying value in the market is the strategy they will pursue, rather than proven players at a premium.

CRAIG HOPE’S VERDICT: Howe is on the record saying that clubs live and die by their recruitment, and this summer needs to be better than the last one. At least one of Nick Woltemade or Yoane Wissa could be sold and specifics are likely to be discussed in the coming days.

It is absolutely key that the club have a plan of who is going and who are their top targets, and go about enacting those plans as soon as the window opens. There cannot be a repeat of the trauma of Isak and all of the mistakes that arose from it.

Unlock Superior Leg Strength: Mastering Lunges After 55 to Outperform 90% of Your Peers

0

When it comes to testing leg strength, lunges are a top contender.

If lunges are part of your workout routine, you’re likely familiar with the challenge they present. This exercise demands a great deal of coordination, balance, and strength, as one leg is tasked with supporting your entire body weight. Many fitness enthusiasts actually find lunges more difficult than squats due to the focus on small muscle groups and the single-leg nature of the movement. Unlike squats, lunges isolate the workout to one leg at a time.

We have an intriguing challenge for all lunge aficionados. According to Joshua King, the Personal Training Leader at Life Time in Gainesville, Virginia, if you’re able to perform a certain number of lunges past the age of 55, you possess leg strength that surpasses 90% of your peers.

Well, we’re calling all lunge fans for a strength test. According to Joshua King, Personal Training Leader at Life Time Gainesville (Virginia), if you can do this many lunges after 55, your leg strength is stronger than 90% of your peers.

This Benchmark Signals Top-Tier Leg Strength

For those 55 and up, King says that if you’re able to perform 50 total reps (one full set or broken up into multiple sets) with solid depth, balance, and posture, you’re stronger than most of your peers.

“The key is quality over quantity. For quality, the knee must stay controlled, full range of motion movement, balance control and keeping the torso upright,” King tells us.

Why Lunges Are an Effective Test of Lower-Body Strength

According to King, lunges are one of the most productive movements for assessing lower-body strength.

“They force the body to control strength one leg at a time, which exposes imbalances immediately. Lunges tell us far more than simple machine-based leg work. Primary muscles used in the lunge: glutes, quadriceps, hamstrings, calves, and core,” King explains.

How Lunges Compare to Squats When Measuring Functional Strength

Lunges challenge your body in a manner squats simply do not. Every rep requires each leg to produce force independently while stabilizing the trunk, hips, and pelvis.

“With squats, both feet stay planted and the body can distribute force evenly, which allows stronger sides to compensate for weaker ones. Lunges remove that advantage and immediately expose weaknesses in balance, coordination, and control,” King tells us. “In relation to functionality, lunges require the body to manage forward and downward movement through space, which is much closer to real-life demands like walking uphill, stepping onto curbs, climbing stairs, or changing direction.”

What This Indicates About Your Stability and Mobility

If you’re able to complete high-quality lunges in a repeated fashion, it says you have solid hip mobility, core control, balance, coordination, and stable knee joints on each side.

“It also suggests [you’re] maintaining the type of lower-body function that protects [you] long-term,” King says. “If someone over 55 performs lunges with control, proper depth, and endurance, I’m usually looking at someone who has trained well, moves well, and has a much higher functional capacity than their age suggests.”

Impaired Driver Collides with Road Ranger in I-275 Construction Zone Incident, Reports Florida Highway Patrol

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A man found himself in handcuffs after allegedly driving under the influence, resulting in an accident that injured a 52-year-old man on Thursday night.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a Honda Accord was heading north on I-275, occupying the inner lane just past 4th Street North.

Meanwhile, a clearly marked Road Ranger Ford F600 truck had come to a stop in the same inner lane of northbound I-275. Due to ongoing construction work, the other three northbound lanes were temporarily closed.

Troopers noted that traffic cones were set up in a visible manner to guide all northbound vehicles into the inside lane.

In addition, advanced warning signs and directional arrow boards were strategically placed to inform drivers about the lane closure ahead. Multiple law enforcement vehicles, with their emergency lights flashing, were stationed within the closed lane area to ensure safety and visibility.

While the Road Ranger was stopped in traffic, troopers said the Honda did not slow or stop upon approach and collided with the truck’s rear.

The Road Ranger’s driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Honda, Cedrick Travon Brown, 32, was arrested for DUI, refusal to submit, driving while license suspended or revoked, and an active felony warrant.

Discover How ‘Northern Exposure’ Star Janine Turner, 63, Continues to Captivate Audiences Today

0

Janine Turner, a proud Texan, has enjoyed a remarkable journey in Hollywood, characterized by a series of memorable roles and notable achievements.

Her career began in the 1970s when she ventured into the fashion world as a model in New York City, quickly securing some of the industry’s most prestigious campaigns. This early success paved the way for her transition into acting, where she first made waves on the small screen.

In 1980, Turner captured audiences as a friend of Lucy Ewing in the iconic TV drama “Dallas,” a series that defined an era. Her television presence expanded with a role on the beloved soap opera “General Hospital,” further solidifying her status as a rising star.

The 1990s marked a pivotal moment in her career with her portrayal of Maggie O’Connell on the critically acclaimed series “Northern Exposure,” which aired from 1990 to 1995. This role endeared her to fans and highlighted her versatility as an actress.

Turner’s talents weren’t confined to television alone. She took on Hollywood with a memorable performance as Jessie Deighan alongside Sylvester Stallone in the action-packed film “Cliffhanger.” Additionally, her role as Katie McCoy on “Friday Night Lights” showcased her continuing ability to captivate audiences across different genres and platforms.

The star also had a headline-making love life: she dated Stallone, John Corbett and and Mikhail Baryshnikov, and was also once engaged to Alec Baldwin.

Now she has talked to the Daily Mail about her new YouTube series, The Pursuit, which dramatizes the courage of the Founding Fathers and Mothers.

Turner talked to the Daily Mail about her rise from Texas country girl to top model in New York City.

‘I was modeling at age 15 for Wilhelmina Models in 1978, it was really something,’ she told the Daily Mail.

‘And it was amazing to start my career as an actress at age 17 on Dallas. I played Susan, the friend of Charlene Tilton’s character.

‘My first day on set I sat next to Larry Hagman by the makeup stand. He was very nice and said, “Hi there!” in a full Texas accent.’

After Dallas she ‘packed up my maroon Buick with my eight track tapes and moved to Hollywood to get more roles,’ she said.

Turner also popped up on The Love Boat, Happy Days, The A-Team, Knight Rider and Quantum Leap.

In 1989 she played Nancy Beth opposite Julia Roberts and Dolly Parton in Steel Magnolias.

But then she got tired of the scripts she was being sent and changed the way she was doing things.

‘I had checked out of Hollywood. I thought, “I can’t do any more bikini roles,”‘ she said.

‘I found a method acting coach and really studied acting while I cut my hair and took off my fingernail polish,’ she said. ‘Next thing I knew I booked Northern Exposure, which happened out of New York.

Northern Exposure was a 1990s classic TV show which also starred Rob Morrow as a city doctor who is forced to work in the remote Alaskan town.

She loved the role: ‘Maggie was a character I was waiting for. I stopped doing titty roles and worked with Marilyn Monroe’s acting coach so I could prepare myself for something better and I got it. I had $8 left in my bank account when I landed Northern Exposure.’

Turner also told the Daily Mail, ‘The show is now streaming on Amazon Prime, so I have a whole new fan base, like kids that stop me in parking lots saying, “Mom, there’s Maggie!” It still holds up.’

When the show ended, she moved to Texas where she bought a ranch, a pickup truck and a horse.

‘I felt good being back home in Texas, where I raised my daughter,’ she said. ‘I’m thrilled I raised my daughter here. People ask if I would have it done differently. But I wouldn’t. It was really all about her.’

And she also talked to the Daily Mail about Stallone, whom she dated and costarred with in 1993’s Cliffhanger.

‘It was amazing working with him on Cliffhanger, he was intelligent, funny and generous. He has a great ability to write scripts, such a talent,’ she gushed.

Another film that stands out is 1997’s Leave It To Beaver, in which she played June Cleaver.

‘How different was that to do after Northern Exposure?’ she asked. ‘It was so fun being on a big studio lot and taking on a classic TV show like that.’

She has dipped her toe back into acting with the 2000 shows Strong Medicine and Dr T & The Women, and she also appeared in Law & Order: SVU.

Then came Friday Night Lights which she starred on in 2008 and 2009.

After that she took roles here and there. Her last movie was Birthright Outlaw in 2023.

The Pursuit is a vertical historical short series created, written, and directed by Turner through her foundation, Constituting America.

The series highlights American Founding Fathers and Mothers, with new weekly episodes running through July 4, 2026, in honor of America’s 250th anniversary.

‘One of the main goals of The Pursuit is to have everyone be aware of how we have not fallen into a dictatorship, with the founding principle of the “consent of the governed” preserving our republic and our freedom,’ she began.

‘250 years later, I still can’t get over how powerful the founding story is. In The Pursuit, I had the joy of working with Bryan Brigham as he steps into the role of John Adams—my favorite founding father—in the vertical series from Constituting America, which I wrote, directed, and had the privilege to be part of. Featuring the Founding Fathers and Mothers who shaped the nation.’

New episodes are released weekly through July 4 in honor of America’s 250th anniversary.

Now she has two new projects she will direct, and she is also starring in her own musical Belva.

It is about Belva Lockwood, who was alive from 1830 to 1917. She was a pioneering attorney and activist who became the first woman admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court bar (1879) and the first to argue a case before the Court (1880).

‘It’s a story about inspiration and hope,’ she noted.

‘I will dance and sing, and there’s lot of tap dancing,’ she added. ‘Hopefully it will be Broadway bound in a year. It is on my bucket list to be on a Broadway musical.’

Shocking Scandal: Florida Santa Arrested for Attempting to Buy Sex from Teen

The holiday spirit was interrupted for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office when they apprehended a local Santa Claus in a sting operation focused on child sexual predators.

Thomas Allen Hicks, a well-known part-time Santa in Florida, is now facing several charges, including human trafficking and using a computer to solicit a parent or guardian. Authorities allege that he offered $200 to a man to engage in sexual acts with the man’s 13-year-old daughter, according to an affidavit obtained by Oxygen.

“Thousands and thousands and thousands of children have sat on this guy’s lap thinking he was Santa Claus,” Sheriff Grady Judd remarked during a press conference, “when in fact what he was was a child sex predator.”

This arrest was part of a weeklong undercover operation, aptly named “Polk around and find out: Child Predator VIII,” which ran from April 20 to April 26. The operation was designed to identify and capture child sexual predators.

“We apprehended 19 individuals, 16 of whom believed they were going to meet and engage in illegal sexual activities with children,” Sheriff Judd stated. “These individuals are child deviants, predators, pedophiles—there aren’t enough negative terms to describe the actions they took, the words they spoke, and the images they sent, wrongly believing they were communicating with children.”

Florida Santa Claus Thomas Hicks Accused of Solicitation

The investigation into Hicks began when he reportedly contacted an undercover officer on April 20 after encountering an advertisement on a well-known prostitution website. The ad featured digitally altered images of a Marion County Digital Forensic Technician, who had agreed to impersonate a young girl.

“Hi, saw your ad,” the suspect allegedly wrote, per the affidavit. “Where is your incall located? How much do you charge?”

The undercover officer, posing as the girl’s father, went on to explain that the girl was “not super experienced,” but that the family needed rent money.

“I’m an older man,” Hicks allegedly replied, “and am very gentle.”

When the “father” explained that the teen was only 13, the suspect allegedly replied, “Wow, I didn’t know she was so young!” before adding, “I liked her looks.”

Throughout the conversation, Hicks allegedly voiced concerns that the exchange was “a setup,” but continued to engage in the conversation, per the affidavit, agreeing on a rate of $200. He allegedly assured that he “would never hurt anyone” and described the girl as “a real cutie,” according to the court records.

“I’m sure there are lot of crazies out there,” he wrote at one point, per the affidavit. “My goal in being with a girl is to give her pleasure.”

The conversation continued the next day and Hicks allegedly shared a phone call with the girl.

“Throughout the duration of the conversation, the suspect admits to having mentioned ‘oral,’” authorities wrote in the affidavit, “however, he wishes to interact with the juvenile before committing to a sexual act to ensure the ‘vibe’ is right.”

That same day, investigators took Hicks into custody as he was sitting in his car in a parking lot. He was found with $382 in cash, including two $100 bills, authorities said.

Investigators learned that Hicks worked in marketing for the Tri County Behavioral Health in Polk County and played Santa every year at major Christmas events in the area.

“The suspect advised he has been married to his wife for over fifty (50) years, however, he regularly goes onto known prostitution sites to look for ‘hookers’ and ‘companions,’” authorities alleged in the affidavit. “The suspect came across an ad on a prostitution site called SkipTheGames and felt attracted to the female displayed on the ad because she was petite.”

Hicks allegedly told officers that although he was worried it could be part of a sting, he “kept coming back because he was intrigued,” the court records revealed.

He allegedly told investigators that he was not sure he would have had sex with the girl, even if she was real.

Thomas Hicks Was “Well Regarded” Santa Claus, Sheriff Says

According to Judd, Hicks—who was also a preacher—was “well regarded” in the community and had taken on the role of Santa Claus at the Lakeland Christmas parade for years.

“We arrested Santa Claus,” he announced at the press conference. “Now, I want all the children that may be watching this to understand it’s not the real Santa Claus.”

Judd said that he had even posed with the man for a picture at a rotary meeting several weeks before the arrest.

“Zero remorse when he was arrested,” Judd said during the press conference. “The only thing he was concerned about was his reputation as Santa Claus.”

Hicks is also facing charges of unlawful use of a 2-way communication device and traveling to meet a minor after use of a computer, authorities said.

He’s currently being held at the Polk County Jail. It’s unclear whether he has retained an attorney.

Emerging Singer Allegedly Dismembers Teen in Kiddie Pool Over Threatened Exposure: District Attorney

A shocking crime has unfolded in California, where prosecutors allege that a 14-year-old girl was brutally murdered and dismembered with a chainsaw in an inflatable pool. The victim, Celeste Rivas Hernandez, reportedly threatened to reveal her alleged abuser, leading to the horrifying act.

David Anthony Burke, a 21-year-old known in the music world as “D4vd,” has been charged with multiple serious offenses, including murder, child sexual abuse, and the illegal mutilation of a body. Authorities claim that Burke had been abusing the teenager for several months before the tragic incident. After killing her, he allegedly dismembered her body and left it to decompose in the trunk of his Tesla.

Burke has entered a plea of not guilty and is currently being held without the possibility of bail.

Los Angeles police apprehended the singer-songwriter following the discovery of the young girl’s remains in the trunk of his vehicle, a Tesla. The case has sent shockwaves through the community and the music industry alike.

According to court documents obtained by FOX 11 Los Angeles, the last sighting of Celeste was on April 23, 2025. Prosecutors allege that Burke invited her to his residence in the Hollywood Hills following a dispute. It was during this altercation that Celeste reportedly threatened to expose their relationship, an act that authorities believe led to her tragic death.

Police found her dismembered and decomposed remains in the trunk of an abandoned car on Sept. 8, 2025 — 400 feet from his house, according to a brief signed by Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman and Deputy DA Beth Silverman. It was registered to Burke, they wrote, and surveillance video allegedly shows he was the last person to drive it.

Burke is accused of setting up the inflatable pool in his garage to catch Celeste’s blood as he dismembered her with “a chainsaw and perhaps other tools.” In the process, he tore plastic fragments from the pool which authorities later found mixed with her remains.

He is also accused of removing two of her fingers because they showed his name. Those were never recovered.

However, he placed more of her dismembered remains in a cadaver bag and trash bags in the trunk of his Tesla, which prosecutors say he abandoned months later near the home before he left to go on tour.

Prosecutors said Burke first met Celeste when she was 11 and allegedly began molesting her in November 2023, when she was 13 and he was 18. The following February, her parents called police and took her phone away. Burke allegedly paid a high school student $1,000 to deliver her a new phone.

“Throughout 2024, the victim spent a significant amount of time with defendant, including summer weekends at his home in the Hollywood Hills and traveling with him to Las Vegas, London and Texas to meet his family,” prosecutors alleged in the filing.

They “broke up” in November 2024 but kept in touch until Celeste’s phone activity came to an end on April 23, 2025, according to the prosecution timeline.

“[Text] messages reveal the victim’s jealousy over defendant’s relationships with other women, as defendant led her to believe they had a future together,” prosecutors wrote. “She became extremely upset and threatened to disclose damaging information about her relationship with defendant to end his career and destroy his life.”

The argument was two days before his first studio album dropped.

With millions of dollars on the line, Burke allegedly ordered Celeste an Uber from her home in Lake Elsinore to his in Hollywood Hills. However, 20 minutes after the vehicle arrived, Burke allegedly sent her text messages asking where she was.

Prosecutors allege these texts were part of a “premeditated plan to cover up the murder.” She was already dead by the time they were sent, according to the filing.

Prosecutors allege that Burke stabbed her to death almost immediately after she arrived. According to the Los Angeles medical examiner’s office, Celeste died in a homicide caused by multiple penetrating injuries.

The next morning, he sat for a radio interview about his forthcoming album, according to prosecutors. Then he allegedly had a shovel delivered from Home Depot via the courier app Postmates. On May 1, prosecutors allege he ordered two chainsaws from Amazon. On May 5, he ordered a body bag, laundry bags and the inflatable pool. On July 7, he allegedly bought a “burn cage.”

He allegedly made the purchase using a fake name, “Victoria Mendez.”

At a hearing Wednesday, prosecutors revealed gruesome allegations in connection with the crime that legal analyst Royal Oakes said strongly support the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office’s push for capital punishment.

Although California has a moratorium in place on executions, the death penalty is still on the books for prosecutors to pursue.

“The gruesome new details about Burke’s actions, disclosed by the DA, are guaranteed to boost the chance, not only of a murder conviction, but the death penalty, if a jury eventually hears the allegations and concludes Burke is responsible,” he told Fox News Digital. “Buying and using a chainsaw, a portable incinerator and body bags, and dismembering the victim’s body, including by amputating fingers with tattoos linking her to Burke, are shocking allegations.”

In September 2025, the Los Angeles Police Department served a search warrant on Burke’s home. They recovered the damaged pool, blood evidence and other DNA samples linked to Celeste.

Compounding Burke’s legal troubles, prosecutors also recently alleged they found a huge amount of child sex abuse material on his devices, including nude pictures of the victim on his phone.

“[That] puts the burden squarely on the defense to fight back,” Oakes said.
