Fugitive Apprehended in Connection with Filmed Homicide of 15-year-old in NYC Park

0

Detectives from the New York City Police Department (NYPD) apprehended 18-year-old Zahir Davis on Friday night after a swift and intensive manhunt for the individual responsible for the shooting death of a child at a Queens playground earlier this month. This development was shared by NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch in a post on Saturday.

Davis has been charged with murder in the case of 15-year-old Jaden Pierre, who was killed on April 16, as stated by Tisch.

According to officials, after Pierre was shot, Davis fled to Jamaica but returned to New York on Friday. Upon his arrival, he was promptly taken into custody by NYPD detectives working with the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force.

The NYPD had previously circulated images of a suspect in the murder of Jaden Pierre, a 15-year-old.

Authorities reported that Pierre was shot at approximately 6:15 p.m. on April 16, near the intersection of Merrick and Baisley boulevards in Queens. The following day, the NYPD released photos of the individual sought in connection with the tragic incident.

Social media video of the incident showed a male repeatedly striking a young boy with his hands before opening fire toward the child. A crowd that had formed around the pair immediately dispersed after gunshots rang out.

New Yorkers, most notably former Mayor Eric Adams, harshly criticized Mayor Zohran Mamdani for failing to immediately respond to the shooting.

“A 15-year-old kid was beaten and shot to death at a Southeast Queens playground yesterday. And somehow this isn’t the top story,” Adams wrote in an April 17 post on X.

“Where is everyone else, including NYC Mayor Mamdani? Outrage shouldn’t depend on zip code. Every child deserves protection,” Adams added.

Mamdani held a closed-door meeting with community leaders to discuss the incident on April 20, he told reporters.

He later addressed the shooting publicly during an unrelated news conference Wednesday for Earth Day.

“I shared my thoughts on this the other evening, where I spoke about the fact that this was heartbreaking. It was heartbreaking, not just for what it means for his family and his friends, I know it was also heartbreaking for so many New Yorkers to watch this video and see others simply witness what unfolded as opposed to step[ping] up to address it,” Mamdani said.

“That is also our responsibility as a city government. I know that I have full confidence in the NYPD’s abilities to hold the individual responsible accountable,” he continued.

Mamdani did not attend a Monday vigil organized for Pierre but said he was setting up a time to meet with Pierre’s family.

Fox News Digital contacted the NYPD and Mamdani’s office for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Discover the Lavish £35M Oceanfront Mansion in Portugal Acquired by Bernie Ecclestone’s Wife

0

Bernie Ecclestone, the former Formula 1 chief, is reportedly seeing his wife make headlines with the purchase of a stunning £35 million mansion overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in Portugal.

The well-regarded Portuguese newspaper, Correio da Manha, has called this acquisition the ‘largest private sale ever of a home’ in the nation.

Sources indicate that Fabiana Flosi, who is 46 years younger than the 95-year-old Ecclestone, has committed to purchasing this lavish estate in Quinta da Marinha, a resort locale in Cascais.

The transaction, situated approximately 15 miles west of Lisbon, Portugal’s vibrant capital, is believed to have been finalized around three months ago following six months of negotiations.

Correio da Manha identifies the previous owner of this luxurious property as Marco Galinha, a notable Portuguese entrepreneur and the founder of Grupo BEL.

The mansion’s features include a large pool, a tennis court and an internal lift.

Ecclestone married Brazilian marketing director Fabiana in August 2012 at his chalet in the exclusive resort of Gstaad in Switzerland.

He was reportedly spotted yesterday with two of his daughters at a fish restaurant in Cascais, called O Furnas do Guincho.

Potential neighbours for the couple in the new Cascais home include Portugal captain and former Real Madrid and Manchester United football star Cristiano Ronaldo.

He owns a £30million mansion on Quinta da Marinha, which sits within the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park.

Fabiana talked last year about how she and Ecclestone navigate parenting their five-year-old son Ace despite the pair’s age difference.

In an interview with German newspaper Bild, she said: ‘Bernie and I are a team and we’re raising Ace as a team.

‘If I’m ever a little impatient, Bernie explains to him in his usual calm and quiet way that he can only watch half an hour of TV after he’s done his homework.’

She added: ‘It’s not easy for us to explain to Ace that online, tablet, and YouTube are only available on Tuesdays, while his classmates are allowed to do so every day.

‘I think it’s a good idea for him to get his first mobile phone at 12 or 14.’

Ecclestone himself said at the same time, in an interview marking his own 95th birthday: ‘Ace is a wonderful boy. He’s bright, curious and interested in everything.’

Ecclestone was chief executive of Formula 1 until he was replaced by Irish-American Chase Carey in 2017.

Last October it was reported he had put two of his yachts up for sale, with suggestions he was ‘clearing out his life and wealth.’

Ecclestone, worth about £2.4billion, confirmed he sold his superyacht ‘Petara’, named after his children Petra and Tamara from his second marriage to Croatian former model Slavica Radic.

He told Bild, ‘We just sold it’, while Fabiana added: ‘We only used it eight days in a year. We don’t need such a big yacht for that.’

It is not known who purchased the superyacht or for how much it eventually went for but the luxury vessel was previously valued at £17million and annual running costs were put at £1.7million.

Father-of-four Ecclestone had already cashed in on his collection of 69 super cars after selling them to Red Bull co-owner Mark Mateschitz earlier in the year.

The final price of the sale was never revealed, but estimates suggested the collection was worth £500million.

Confirming the deal at the time, Ecclestone said: ‘These are unique vehicles. They have written sport history and marked technical milestones. They embody 70 years of F1 history.

‘It means a great deal to me to know that this collection is now in the very best of hands.’

The recent sales come after a 2023 London court case in which Ecclestone admitted misleading authorities about overseas assets and paid £750million in back taxes.

The case ended with a 17-month suspended sentence, sparing him jail despite Ecclestone admitting he had hidden £416million from HMRC.

The court heard that the billionaire had concealed the existence of a trust in Singapore when HMRC investigators quizzed him about his tax affairs in July 2015.

Ecclestone had been asked by officers if he was a settlor or beneficiary of any trust in or outside the UK, and had answered: ‘No.’

Judge Bryan said this was a lie, as the tycoon was indeed linked to two complicated trust structures known as the Kinan trust and the Nanki trust.

Ecclestone’s lawyer Clare Montgomery said that it was never his intention to avoid paying tax and he was simply unaware of the true position of his affairs at the time.

Ecclestone left school at 16 and was running a car dealership by 21.

He entered Formula One in 1972 when he bought the Brabham team for £100,000, before using his seat on the board of the Constructors’ Association to acquire the sport’s global TV rights, which he sold in more than 100 countries.

By the early 1990s, F1 was valued at £2.5billion and Ecclestone was earning an estimated £1million each week. It was eventually sold to Liberty Media for £6.4 billion.

Bernie Ecclestone was born in comparative poverty on October 28, 1930, in east London, but became one of Britain’s richest tycoons by transforming Formula One from a sport for car enthusiasts into a global brand producing profits of more than £1billion a year.

He left school at 15 to trade motorbike parts while employed by the Gas Board, and honed his skills by haggling over the prices of used cars with criminals.

He amassed a portfolio of luxury items including a large yacht, racehorses, fabulous houses across London and in Switzerland, and a private jet.

Ecclestone has been known to always pay in cash, and was often seen peeling off 500-euro notes from a wad. It was reported in 2014 that he had been known to carry $1million (£600,000) in cash in a plastic bag – and then leave the bag in a room by mistake.

He was been married three times, first to Ivy Bamford in 1952, then to Croatian model Slavica Radić in 1985 before their divorce in 2009 and most recently to Brazilian Fabiana Flosi in 2012.

He met Fabiana in 2009 at the World Motor Sport Council in Brazil when she was working in marketing for the Brazilian Grand Prix in Interlagos.

It was revealed in April 2020 that she was pregnant when Ecclestone was 89 years old. The boy was born in July 2002 and they named the baby Ace, with his father saying: ‘We have a son named Ace. I am so proud.’

Fabiana added: ‘It was all so easy. The birth was over after 25 minutes. I thank God.’

Ecclestone has four children, including Tamara and Petra, who are the daughters of his second wife Slavica.

It was reported in 2014 that she was paying him £60million a year as part of their divorce settlement.

Tottenham Secures First Win of the Year with Joao Palhinha’s Late Goal, Yet Remain in Relegation Zone Due to West Ham’s Victory

0

After a lengthy wait of 118 days and 15 Premier League matches under the guidance of three different managers, Tottenham has finally secured a victory.

This triumph, albeit through an untidy goal against a team already destined for relegation, was an especially sweet moment for the Spurs.

Joao Palhinha emerged from the bench to make the decisive play in the 82nd minute. He redirected a wayward shot from Richarlison into the net from close range after the ball fell to him following a corner.

At Molineux, Palhinha’s goal gained even more significance as West Ham clinched a late win against Everton, further elevating the importance of Tottenham’s triumph.

The victory was secured by an outstanding stoppage-time save from Antonin Kinsky, who denied Joao Gomes’ free kick, leading to jubilant celebrations among the Spurs faithful.

But it wasn't enough to climb Tottenham out of the relegation zone - with West Ham winning

But it wasn’t enough to climb Tottenham out of the relegation zone – with West Ham winning

New boss Roberto De Zerbi pumped his fists and roared in front of the away fans at the end.

The Londoners avoided the ignominy of equalling their club record 16 games without a win set in 1934-35, a season in which they were relegated and Arsenal won the title. That omen is out of the way.

The Spurs fight, however, is far from over. With four games remaining, the West Ham win means they are still cut two points adrift in the bottom three.

More concerning perhaps, De Zerbi’s team were passive for large parts of this game against mediocre opponents.

Injuries too are piling up again. Dominic Solanke, the first choice centre forward, and Xavi Simons, the main creative force, were both forced off at Molineux.

But at least they are alive and kicking.

De Zerbi said one win could change everything. After the draw against Brighton last weekend, he claimed they could win the last five.

Well, that’s one of the five. Next comes a trip to Aston Villa who will be between the two legs of their Europa League semi final and could be distracted. Then home games against Leeds and Everton either side of a trip across the capital to Chelsea.

There had been signs of life against Brighton and Spurs opened with purpose.

They moved the ball at good tempo, generated forward momentum and forced mistakes from a Wolves team who were back at home after two heavy defeats on the road.

Early chances were not taken by Spurs. First, from a free kick taken by Porro and headed square by Kevin Danso, just beyond the reach of Solanke, whose claims for a foul were quickly dismissed.

Then through Randal Kolo Muani, who lashed a shot wide after a misplaced pass by Andre. Kolo Muani has been a target for De Zerbi’s ego massage techniques.

The Spurs boss has been peppering him with YouTube footage of his prolific form for Eintracht Frankfurt but this was another underwhelming display, and it ended at half time.

Mathys Tel, his replacement, performed with more energy and threat.

Spurs lost the early impetus as Wolves found a better rhythm and the contest fell flat as it was disrupted by stoppages for injuries.

Solanke, who missed five months of the season with an ankle injury, was struck down again and limped off after on-pitch treatment in the 40th minute looking disconsolate as he was replaced by Richarlison.

Since his arrival on the last day of March, De Zerbi has lost Mohamed Kudus, Cristian Romero, Udogie and now Solanke and Simons to injuries.

Yves Bissouma required treatment after a strong challenge by Andre at the end of the first half which earned a yellow card for the Wolves midfielder.

News that Tomas Soucek had given West Ham the lead against Everton filtered through to Molineux early in the second half and Wolves fans taunted the visitors with a chorus of “Going Down with the Wanderers” just as Simons wriggled free in the penalty area but fired too high under pressure from Santiago Bueno.

It was his last significant contribution before leaving on a stretcher. Simons was hurt in an innocuous incident with Hugo Bueno, the pair of them chasing a ball out of touch for a Wolves goal kick.

He seemed twist the joint on the fringe of the turf and there was genuine concern from other players who hurried the Spurs physios onto the pitch.

Simons though climbed to his feet and appeared determined to continue but after bouncing up and down on the touchline collapsed again to the ground.

Wolves threatened when the game restarted. Kinsky raced out to foil Adam Armstrong and Hugo Bueno swerved a free kick over before Jose Sa made a fabulous save to frustrate Rodrigo Bentancur.

The Spurs midfielder made excellent contact with a header from a Porro corner and clearly expected to find the net and howled into the sky when Sa kept it out.

The elusive goal did come though, turned in from another corner by Palhinha to send a wave of relief through the team.

De Zerbi bolstered his defence with Radu Dragusin but the visitors still required the flying save by Kinsky to secure three points.

Finally they have figured out a way to win again.

Teddi Mellencamp Seeks GLP-1 Treatment During Cancer Fight: ‘I Want to Thrive!

Teddi Mellencamp is confronting the challenges of her cancer journey, which have included weight gain due to her treatment regimen. In an effort to tackle this, she sought a prescription for a GLP-1 medication.

On the April 22 episode of her podcast “Two Ts in a Pod,” Mellencamp, 44, shared her experiences with guest co-host Dolores Catania. She humorously remarked, “I am a health and wellness coach who’s dying of cancer,” highlighting the irony of her situation.

Mellencamp detailed her conversation with her doctor, explaining, “I gained weight from the steroids [from my treatment], and because I’m getting bigger from the steroids, I asked my doctor if I could please have GLP-1s. And he was like, ‘No!’” Frustrated by this response, she exclaimed, “Let me live!”

The “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum has been working to regain her sense of self amidst her battle with stage 4 cancer. “I’ve been doing a lot of therapy, a lot of rest [and] a lot of hanging with the family,” Mellencamp shared on a recent episode of her podcast, signaling a focus on recovery and support.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Teddi Mellencamp is starting to feel like herself again amid her stage 4 cancer battle. “I’ve been doing a lot of therapy, a lot of rest [and] a lot of hanging with the family,” Mellencamp, 44, said on the Thursday, January 15, episode of her “Two T’s in […]

Mellencamp recalled thinking that her doctor is telling her to “live my best life, but I don’t even get [the meds I want].” She scoffed, “Live your best life? Where are my GLP-1s?”

Catania, 55, was instantly on Mellencamp’s side, and suggested she get the weight-loss drugs from another source.

“I’m so sorry someone told you no,” Catania said. “But I don’t know that I’d listen!”

Mellencamp noted, “I mean, I know people where I could get it. I have friends that do it.”

Teddi Mellencamps Skin Cancer Journey Through the Years

Since being diagnosed with skin cancer, Teddi Mellencamp has used her platform to remind fans to take care of their skin. She has also been vocal about all her health issues. Mellencamp revealed in March 2022 that she had a mole removed on her back. “This is a reminder to please go get your yearly […]

Catania offered Mellencamp to join her own weight-loss journey, saying, “Well, I’m taking it tomorrow if you wanna start with me.”

The more the Real Housewives of New Jersey alum thought about how Mellencamp’s doctor reacted to her GLP-1s request, Catania felt increasingly hopeful that Mellencamp had a better chance at survival than previously anticipated.

“I think maybe someone’s lying,” Catania said. “I don’t think you’re dying. Because [if you were dying,] he would’ve said, ‘Oh, if that’s what you want, sure! Take that, go do some coke, go snort whatever you want!’”

Mellencamp has been honest about her ups and downs with cancer since being diagnosed with stage II melanoma in 2022. After undergoing 17 surgeries during the next two years, Mellencamp told her fans in February 2025 that doctors found multiple tumors on her brain, two of which were removed that day.

Teary Teddi Mellencamp Opens Up About 'Really Hard' Nights Amid Cancer

Teddi Mellencamp is getting candid about her cancer treatment. The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 43, opened up about experiencing some “really hard” nights in a video shared via her Instagram Stories on Saturday, March 15. Mellencamp recently underwent surgery for multiple brain tumors and is undergoing further treatment to treat more tumors. […]

The former reality star revealed the following month that her cancer had metastasized and was upgraded to stage 4.

In April 2025, Mellencamp exclusively told Us Weekly that doctors found more brain tumors and she was “fighting for my life.” Six months later, Mellencamp announced that her October 2025 scans showed “no detectable cancer.”

Mellencamp’s health journey, however, was far from over. She shared in January with her podcast listeners that the medications and immunotherapy have taken a “toll on my body.”

She noted that she has since begun therapy and it’s been an eye-opening experience. “I’ve learned that there are certain things, like it’s hard for me to touch and move,” Mellencamp said. “I can see that I’m slower than I was before, and that’s really frustrating to me. I want to be back to the way I was.”

Mellencamp confessed, “Now that the storm has calmed a little, now I’m processing. Now I’m starting to develop fear where I didn’t have fear before.”

Tragic Brooklyn Bodega Shooting: 16-Year-Old Boy Killed in Violent Teen Confrontation

0

On a somber Friday afternoon, a 16-year-old boy lost his life in a tragic shooting at a Brooklyn bodega. The incident unfolded during a violent altercation between two teenagers, as reported by both police and the manager of the store.

The victim, identified as Marquise Byfield, was struck by gunfire at least twice inside the Livonia Deli & Grocery located at 909 Livonia Avenue in the New Lots neighborhood. The shooting occurred around 4:15 p.m., according to police reports.

Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene to find Byfield suffering from severe gunshot wounds to his torso and groin. Sadly, despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center.

The store is cautioned off.

Witnesses, including the deli’s manager, Karrar Obaid, 35, recounted the moments leading up to the shooting. Obaid informed the Daily News that Byfield, hailing from Brownsville, had been engaged in a physical confrontation with another teenager inside the store.

“The first one entered, followed closely by the second, and they immediately began fighting,” Obaid described. “I was positioned behind the counter, and as soon as we heard gunshots, we all dropped to the floor.”

“There was blood everywhere.”

There have been 15 shootings within the 75th precinct where Byfield was killed, from the start of the year through April 19, according to NYPD data.

Shootings are up 36% year-to-date, police data show. During the same period last year, there were 11 shooting incidents.

The suspect, who is believed to be 15 or 16 years old, is still on the loose as of Saturday morning, according to police.

No suspects have been publicly identified and the investigation is ongoing.

New Report Reveals Decline in Monthly Mortgage Payments Across Select Florida Cities

The cost of living is climbing steeply, with gas prices, grocery bills, and other expenses weighing heavily on many households. Amidst this financial strain, there’s a glimmer of relief for homeowners. Despite the surge in home prices over recent years, a recent LendingTree report highlights a surprising trend: a decrease in average monthly mortgage payments since 2024.

The report reveals that, in 2025, the national average monthly mortgage payment saw a slight dip, moving from $1,990 to $1,942. While this reduction may seem modest, it represents a meaningful shift, particularly in some of the country’s larger urban areas.

Fresno, California, emerged as a standout, experiencing the most significant reduction in mortgage costs. In 2024, Fresno homeowners paid an average of $2,414 monthly, but by 2025, this figure had dropped by an impressive 17.5% to $1,992.

This decline in mortgage payments, although not universal, offers a small reprieve for those navigating the broader landscape of rising living costs. Such financial trends provide a bit of breathing room for some homeowners amid otherwise challenging economic conditions.

At the top of the list was Fresno, California, which had a 17.5% drop in monthly mortgage payments. Going from $2,414 per month in 2024 to $1,992 in 2025.

North Port, Florida, followed with a 17.4% drop, then Winston-Salem, North Carolina, at 15.6%, and San Antonio, Texas, also at 15.6%.

Texas and Florida account for most of the top 20, with nine major cities between them seeing sizable drops in mortgage payments over the past year.

Here’s the full list of the 20 major U.S. cities that are seeing mortgage payments decrease.

UMass Amherst’s Chef of the Year Jeffrey MacDonald Faces Shocking Murder Accusations

0

In a shocking turn of events, an acclaimed chef from UMass Amherst has been charged with the murder of his wife. Jeffrey MacDonald, 36, known for his culinary skills, is now embroiled in serious legal trouble, facing accusations of murder and assaulting a police officer following an incident at the Hotel UMass on April 22. This information comes from an official statement released by the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.

MacDonald, who has entered a plea of not guilty, remains in custody without the option of bail, as stated by the prosecutors. Both he and his wife, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, worked at the university, adding another layer of tragedy to this case.

UMass Amherst’s Chancellor Javier A. Reyes addressed the situation in a message to the university community, expressing the profound impact of the news. “This is heartbreaking and deeply unsettling for our campus,” he remarked, extending thoughts to the families, friends, and colleagues affected by the events.

MacDonald and his wife—who has yet to be identified—were both employees of the university.

“I want to acknowledge that this is heartbreaking and deeply unsettling news for our campus,” Chancellor Javier A. Reyes said in a note to the campus community. “Our thoughts are with those affected, including the families, friends, and colleagues of the individuals involved.”

What are the Allegations Against Jeffrey MacDonald?

Police were called to the Hotel UMass around 7:42 p.m. on April 22 after receiving a report of an emergency, according to a police report obtained by CBS Boston.

They arrived to find an agitated MacDonald, who allegedly began throwing objects at officers, striking one in the face, per the report.

The female victim was found dead inside a hotel room with injuries that authorities determined were the result of “a violent assault,” police said.

MacDonald allegedly told investigators that he had “intentionally beaten” his wife, using his hands, feet and other blunt objects, according to the report, admitting that it was “his intent to kill her.”

The official cause of death has not yet been released by the Office of the Chief Medical examiner, prosecutors said.

Oxygen reached out to the UMass Amherst Police Department, but did not receive an immediate reply. The Massachusetts State Police—who is assisting in the investigation—referred Oxygen to the prosecutor’s office, who declined to comment.

Jeffrey MacDonald Was Named Chef of the Year Before Alleged Murder

The college celebrated MacDonald earlier this year in a news feature, which pictured him in his chef’s uniform, when he was named Chef of the Year by the American Culinary Federation.

“Being honored as Chef of the Year by the ACF is an incredible milestone,” MacDonald said of the honor. “I’m grateful for the support of my colleagues at UMass Dining and the inspiring culinary community that I’m fortunate to be part of.”

His next court date is scheduled for May 12, prosecutors said. MacDonald’s attorney Jonah Goldsmith told Oxygen that he had no comment on the allegations at this time.

Prosecutors have said the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information on the case is urged to call the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit at (413) 586-5150.

Unlock Stronger Knees After 55: Top 5 Morning Exercises That Outperform Resistance Bands

0

We often overlook how crucial strong knees are for our everyday activities.

Whether you were enjoying a match of pickleball, swinging your golf clubs, or simply driving over to see your grandchildren and bending down for a warm embrace, your knees were hard at work. Even routine tasks like walking downstairs to make your morning coffee heavily rely on the strength of your knees.

It’s easy to assume that knee strength is primarily a concern for athletes engaged in high-impact sports. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. As we grow older, maintaining knee strength becomes vital due to the natural decline of lean muscle mass. This age-related muscle loss, known as sarcopenia, begins around age 30 and accelerates after 60. Robust knees are essential not just for leisure activities but also for everyday independence, as even basic actions like standing up from a chair can become difficult without them.

So, what can be done to enhance knee strength? We spoke with Dr. Dustin DebRoy, the Manager of Chiropractic Education and Relations at The Joint Chiropractic. He recommends five morning exercises that can build knee strength more effectively than resistance bands for those over 55.

If you’re wondering what to do about it, we chatted with Dr. Dustin DebRoy, Manager, Chiropractic Education and Relations at The Joint Chiropractic, who’s here to help. Dr. DebRoy shares five morning exercises that build knee strength faster than resistance bands after 55.

“Long-term knee strength and stability depend on consistent and effective training across the full range of motion,” Dr. DebRoy explains. “While resistance bands can support consistency, they are not the most effective tool for building long-term strength. If a person cannot adequately load the entire range of motion, it can lead to strength imbalances, reduced stability, and an increased risk of injury during everyday activities.”

That’s where these exercises come in clutch.

Squats

“Squats strengthen the quadriceps, glutes, and hamstrings together, which improves overall knee stability and load tolerance. This helps the knee handle everyday tasks like sitting, standing, and lifting with better control. They are more effective than resistance band exercises because they load the entire body against gravity, which better trains real-world force and joint stability,” Dr. DebRoy tells us.

  1. Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart on the floor.
  2. Extend your arms ahead of you or place your hands on your hips.
  3. Bend at the knees and hips as you lower into a squat.
  4. Descend until your thighs are parallel to the floor.
  5. Press through your heels to rise back up to standing.

Lunges

“Lunges build single-leg strength and control, which trains the knee to stay stable when body weight shifts from side to side. This directly carries over to walking, stairs, and changes in direction. They outperform banded exercises because they challenge balance, coordination, and full-body control under real load,” Dr. DebRoy says.

  1. Stand tall, perpendicular to the back of a sturdy chair with your feet parallel and hip-width apart.
  2. Step one foot forward, using the chair for support.
  3. Engage your core as you bend your knees, lowering to form 90-degree bends in both legs.
  4. Keep your upper body straight.
  5. Press through your front heel and the ball of your back foot to rise back up.

Jump Squats

“Jump squats develop explosive leg power while training the knees to absorb impact safely,” Dr. DebRoy explains. “This improves the knee’s ability to handle quick movements and repetitive loading like running or jumping. Unlike resistance bands, they train high-speed force production and landing mechanics under bodyweight impact.”

  1. Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Lower into a squat.
  3. Press through your heels to explode up into a jump, reaching your arms overhead.
  4. Lower softly on the balls of your feet, bringing your arms back down and descending back into the squat.
  5. Pause at the bottom for a moment.

Hamstring Bridge Slide-Outs

“This exercise strengthens the hamstrings through controlled knee bending and straightening under tension,” Dr. DebRoy points out. “It helps balance muscle strength around the knee, which improves joint stability and reduces strain. It is more effective than band work because it maintains continuous tension through a longer range of motion and requires full hip and core stabilization.”

  1. Lie flat on your back with your arms at your sides and heels placed on sliders.
  2. Bend your knees and bring your feet close to your hips.
  3. Press your lower back into the mat and engage your core.
  4. Lift your hips to form a bridge position.
  5. Remain in the bridge position as you gradually slide your heels away from your body.
  6. Hold for a moment once your legs are extended.
  7. Reverse the motion.

Cyclist Squats

“Cyclist squats place more demand on the quadriceps, which are key muscles for knee extension strength. This improves the knee’s ability to tolerate forward-loaded positions like squatting and climbing stairs. They are better than resistance band exercises because they create higher mechanical load through gravity, which more closely replicates real-life strength demands,” Dr. DebRoy explains.

  1. Stand tall with your feet planted close together—hip-width or narrower.
  2. Elevate your heels on a weight plate.
  3. Bend your knees to lower into a squat, allowing your knees to move forward over your toes.
  4. Make sure your weight remains centered over the balls of your feet.
  5. Lower as far as you’re comfortably able to while maintaining a tall chest.
  6. Drive through your feet to return to standing.

India Criticizes Donald Trump for Sharing Controversial ‘Hellhole’ Comments on Social Media

India has robustly countered remarks made by former U.S. President Donald Trump, dismissing them as “uninformed” and inappropriate. The comments, which described India as a “hellhole,” were deemed inconsistent with the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The controversial statement originated from conservative broadcaster Michael Savage during an episode of his radio show, Savage Nation. Trump subsequently shared the show’s transcript on his Truth Social platform without adding any personal commentary.

In the transcript, Savage criticized current immigration policies, saying, “A baby here becomes an instant citizen, and then they bring the entire family in from China or India or some other hellhole on the planet.” He went on to argue that today’s immigrant class lacks loyalty to the United States, unlike European immigrants of the past.

These comments come in the context of Trump’s ongoing efforts to curb birthright citizenship in the U.S., a policy change that has faced legal challenges and is under review by the Supreme Court. Earlier this month, Trump made a historic appearance at a Supreme Court hearing focused on this contentious issue.

Trump has issued a directive seeking to restrict birthright citizenship in the US, a move that has been challenged in the US Supreme Court. Earlier this month, he attended a hearing on the issue in a historic visit to the court.

India’s foreign ministry reacted strongly to the comments on Friday.

“The remarks are obviously uninformed, inappropriate and in poor taste,” Indian foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a statement.

“They certainly do not reflect the reality of the India-US relationship, which has long been based on mutual respect and shared interests.”

The US embassy in New Delhi said: “The president has said ‘India is a great country with a very good friend of mine at the top’.”

China’s foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

India’s main opposition Congress party called the “hellhole” remark “extremely insulting and anti-India” and said it “hurts every Indian”.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi should take up this matter with the US President and register a strong objection,” the party said on X.

Indian government data shows nearly 5.5 million people of Indian origin live in the US. Indian Americans and Chinese Americans are the two biggest groups of Asian origin in the US.

Trump and Modi enjoyed warm ties during Trump’s first term, but relations cooled after India was hit last year with some of the highest US tariffs, many of which were rolled back this year. India and the US are now working on a trade deal aimed at preventing any renewed increase in tariffs and boosting sales to each other.
