Tragic Child Death: Mom and Boyfriend Charged Anew in Heartbreaking Case of Disabled Son

A tragic case in Ohio has taken a grim turn as an investigation into the disappearance of a young boy has resulted in murder charges being filed against his mother’s boyfriend.

Michael Kendrick, aged 39, and Ashley Johnson, aged 36, both found themselves in police custody in July 2025 following the tragic death of Johnson’s 7-year-old son, Hershall Creachbaum. On a recent Thursday, the charges against the pair were intensified. Johnson now faces additional charges of abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence, supplementing her original charge of obstructing justice.

Kendrick, who reportedly confessed to police that he had assaulted Hershall, is now charged with murder and involuntary manslaughter, as well as two counts of child endangerment. These charges are in addition to his initial charges of tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.

The Dayton Police Department revealed that Kendrick had reported the boy missing on July 12, 2025, claiming that he disappeared around 3:30 a.m. Despite Hershall’s reliance on a wheelchair due to his nonverbal autism, police had already retrieved the wheelchair, raising suspicions.

Just hours after the initial 911 call, the boy’s remains were discovered. In a press conference, authorities expressed their belief that Hershall had never actually gone missing and had been deceased for several weeks. During questioning, Johnson allegedly informed the police that she had left her son in Kendrick’s care while she was hospitalized following surgery in May 2025.

Kendrick allegedly told police that Hershall died of natural causes, but his story later changed. According to the police, Kendrick admitted to punching the boy and pushing him to the ground, “causing him to bounce off the floor and striking other parts of his body.” Kendrick then allegedly said Hershall died while he was in the shower.

After the boy’s death, Kendrick allegedly told police that he kept Hershall’s body in the home “until he started to smell.” He then allegedly moved the body into a freezer. After that, he wrapped the boy’s body in a sheet, “stuffed him into a suitcase and disposed of his body in a grassy field near train tracks,” police said. Kendrick later allegedly moved Hershall’s remains to the location where they were discovered.

Both Johnson and Kendrick are in custody at the Montgomery County Jail; Kendrick is being held without bond, and Johnson is being held on $25,000 bond. They are both scheduled to appear in court on April 30.

Vegan Mogul Accused of Shocking NYC Hotel Strangulation: What Led to This Dark Turn?

0

An affluent businessman, known for his high-profile vegan meat venture, is facing serious allegations involving the attempted strangulation of his influencer partner within a lavish New York City hotel.

Ben Pasternak, aged 26, was taken into custody on Tuesday following claims that he assaulted his girlfriend, 27-year-old Evelyn Ha, in a $2,000-per-night suite at the prestigious Baccarat Hotel in Midtown last month.

According to a criminal complaint accessed by The New York Post, Pasternak is accused of choking Ha and repeatedly injuring her by slamming a door against her, resulting in bruises and breathing complications that necessitated medical care.

The Australian entrepreneur, however, contends that his ex-girlfriend, a Korean-American with a petite frame, was the true instigator, both emotionally and physically, during their relationship, including the night of the alleged altercation.

“She was emotionally and physically abusive, extremely possessive, and threatened him with consequences if he ever tried to end the relationship,” stated Dini von Mueffling, Pasternak’s representative, to the publication.

‘Our fears are now coming to fruition,’ she added. ‘She’s now making good on her threats.’

Meanwhile, Ha revealed that she walked away from Pasternak the night of the alleged attack, saying she feared for her safety.

‘There were serious boundaries that were crossed and I decided to move away from that relationship for the sake of my safety and my wellbeing,’ the influencer said in a YouTube video released Thursday.

Pasternak was ultimately charged with one count of second-degree strangulation and one count of assault with intent to cause physical injury, according to court records reviewed by the Daily Mail.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges, with his lawyer Josh Kirshner maintaining that he is ‘indeed innocent,’ according to The Post.

‘The complainant’s account is inconsistent and unsupported by reliable corroboration,’ Kirshner told the outlet. ‘We expect the facts to demonstrate that these charges are unwarranted.’

The charges filed against Pasternak, co-founder of the plant-based company Simulate, followed the alleged violence that unfolded on March 31.

He allegedly became enraged after Ha tried to film him inside the upscale Manhattan hotel and squeezed her neck with both hands, according to the criminal complaint obtained by The Post.

She allegedly began experiencing ‘redness to her neck, pain to her throat and difficulty breathing,’ which led her to seek medical attention.

The fake meat mogul is also accused of slamming a door on Ha several times, ‘causing substantial bruising to both of her arms and both sides of her hips,’ according to the documents.

Pasternak was taken into custody Tuesday, weeks after the alleged assault, and released on his own recognizance despite prosecutors requesting $30,000 bail.

Though he has not spoken publicly about the charges, he has denied them through his spokeswoman von Mueffling, who has doubled down on his innocence.

Von Mueffling, who described herself as a longtime friend of the entrepreneur, claimed Ha was the one who ‘flew into a rage’ and ‘attacked’ Pasternak that night in the hotel.

‘As Ben Pasternak’s friend of a decade, as well as someone who represents survivors of sexual assault, I am writing this statement on his behalf,’ von Meuffling said in a statement to People, adding that the couple’s relationship ended that night.

‘Ben unilaterally denies the accusation Evelyn Ha has made against him,’ she added.

In a separate statement to The New York Post, von Meuffling claimed: ‘Throughout their relationship, Evelyn physically attacked Ben.’

‘As heartbreaking as it is to see Ben’s name smeared, as his friend, I am grateful that he is no longer in physical danger,’ she said.

Kirshner, Pasternak’s lawyer, told the outlet that his client’s actions during last month’s incident were ‘limited to lawful self-defense and efforts to disengage.’

Ha, an influencer with more than six million followers across her social media platforms, shared a life update in a YouTube video posted to her more than 530,000 subscribers just days after Pasternak’s arrest.

‘It’s still really raw for me to be completely honest, and right now I’m just spending time with my friends and family and just trying to take everything day by day, hour by hour, and just try my best to just be in the moment,’ she said.

It has also been revealed that the vegan mogul was allegedly staying at the pricey New York hotel at the time in an effort to avoid allegations that he scammed investors in his crypto company, according to The New York Post.

Investors claimed that he illegally diluted the value of crypto coins sold on his platform, Believe, according to court papers obtained by the outlet.

In the lawsuit filed on March 23 in Manhattan federal court, investors Joshua Lee and Pierre Montmeas wrote: ‘Consumers lost nearly everything.’

While Pasternak has yet to respond to the allegations, court records show process servers eventually located him and served him with a summons on April 17 – weeks after the alleged assault. He is due back in court in that case on June 11.

Pasternak dropped out of high school to focus on building companies full-time, according to 2016 reporting by The New York Post.

He ultimately co-founded Simulate, known for its meme-style vegan chicken nuggets once dubbed the ‘Tesla of Chicken’ in 2024, according to Axios.

The company, once valued at $250 million, was taken over by Ahimsa Companies after Simulate opted to sell rather than seek more funding in a difficult plant-based meat market.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Ha and Pasternak’s spokeswoman von Mueffling for comment.

Eagles Make Strategic Trade to Dominate Second Round of NFL Draft

0

The Philadelphia Eagles emerged victorious in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft with some strategic moves that have caught the attention of football enthusiasts.

In a significant coup, the Eagles nabbed Eli Stowers, a standout tight end known for his impressive performance at the NFL Combine and his status as an All-American, with the 54th overall pick. This addition promises to bolster their offensive lineup with Stowers’ athletic prowess.

Not resting on their laurels, the Eagles swiftly orchestrated a trade that sent ripples through the league. They exchanged their No. 98 pick and a 2027 third-round selection with the Minnesota Vikings to acquire edge rusher Jonathan Greenard, along with a seventh-round pick. This move demonstrates the Eagles’ commitment to strengthening their defensive front.

Jonathan Greenard, who recorded three sacks in 12 games last season, had previously amassed an impressive 24.5 sacks over the past two seasons with the Vikings and Texans. The trade was accompanied by a lucrative contract extension for Greenard, securing him with a four-year, $100 million deal, half of which is guaranteed. This new contract provides Greenard with a fresh start after seeking one during his previous four-year, $76 million contract.

For the Vikings, this trade aligned with their long-standing demand for a Day 2 pick. They successfully augmented their draft capital, including a coveted Day 2 pick in the 2027 draft, which is anticipated to be rich in talent. This strategic maneuver could pay dividends for the Vikings in the future.

The Eagles, who are expected to trade away receiver A.J. Brown after June 1, were in the market for a premium pass-rusher after surprisingly losing Jaelan Phillips to the Panthers in free agency.

And Stowers gives the Eagles a jump start on replacing Brown’s production and replacing tight end Dallas Goedert, who is coming off a 10-touchdown season but will be a free agent in 2027.

Good things come to those who wait … and Kayden McDonald waited longer than anyone.

As the only prospect left in the green room at the NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, McDonald’s agony ended quickly Friday when he was the fourth pick of the second round by the Texans.

The 6-foot-2, 326-pound Ohio State defensive tackle McDonald wiped tears from eyes, hugged his family members, made his walk to the stage with the television cameras glued to him, stopped to tap the logo of his savior Texans and then engulfed commissioner Roger Goodell in a long hug as the crowd of about 300,000 fans cheered his moment.

Sensing that the Giants might be targeting McDonald at No. 38 after trading away Dexter Lawrence, the Texans — who were the Giants’ partners on the 2025 Jaxson Dart trade — moved up from No. 38 to No. 36 with the Raiders. But it turned out that McDonald wasn’t in the conversation for the Giants, sources told The Post.

“I’m just so blessed, so thankful, so emotional,” McDonald said. “Where I came from, now I’m here, it’s a blessing.”

McDonald slides into arguably the NFL’s most dominant defense, where he will play between two All-Pro edges in Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson.

“He’s a strong two-gapping nose tackle who is heavy-handed,” an NFL source said, “and has natural instincts against the run.”

An equally emotional moment happened later in the second round, when the Falcons selected CB Avieon Terrell at No. 48. Terrell was sitting next to his older brother A.J., who plays cornerback for … wait for it … the Falcons.

Yes, the Falcons very well could start brothers as their outside cornerbacks.

At a draft party in Atlanta (of course), A.J. hugged Avieon so hard that he knocked his younger brother’s hat off.

North Jersey native Chase Bisontis’ homecoming plan was dashed as soon as Big Blue filled its need at right guard with Francis Mauigoa (No. 10).

Family Affair: Nia Long Shines with Her Mom and Kids at ‘Michael’ Premiere

Nia Long made a notable appearance with her family at the Los Angeles premiere of the film “Michael” on April 20.

The acclaimed actress graced the Dolby Theatre, accompanied by her two sons, Massai Zhivago Dorsey II and Kez Sunday Udoka, as well as her mother, Talita Long.

Sharing a glimpse of the familial outing, Nia posted a heartfelt photo on Instagram, featuring herself with her sons, captioned, “My loves @massaidorsey @kezlong_.”

The biographical film “Michael,” which focuses on the legendary life of Michael Jackson, stars Jaafar Jackson in the titular role, with Colman Domingo also part of the ensemble cast.

Nia Long takes on the role of Katherine Jackson, the matriarch of the Jackson family, in this highly-anticipated cinematic portrayal.

During a recent interview with That Grape Juice, Nia spoke about what drew her to the role.

“I’m a huge Michael Jackson fan. And I actually met Michael at the very beginning stages of my career and I just thought it’s so important for us to celebrate for Katherine. That was her goal to raise and nurture her children.”

She also explained how she prepared for the part.

“Just finding the truth in the moment, finding the truth in the scene, finding the truth in what a woman’s objective is when she’s there as the take caretaker of her family and her children. And you know she’s a matriarch. So that means that there’s a certain amount of grace and elegance and direct or deliberateness in the way that she  chooses to raise her children and how she keeps her home and how she dresses and making meals for her family.”

Long added that her life as a mom of two helped her connect with the character.

“She’s a very traditional woman. And so I tapped into all of those ideas because I mean Katherine Jackson is probably a culmination of all the women that I know and   and listen, I’m a black mom. It’s not that difficult for me and I understand the experience to a certain extent. The experience may be slightly different, but the core of the experience is the same.”

Florida Mayor Addresses Arrest: Denies Resisting in DUI Probation Violation Case

0

Florida’s Naples Mayor, Teresa Heitmann, found herself in legal trouble once again as she was taken into custody on Monday, accused of breaching her probation from a prior DUI case. Heitmann asserted that she cooperated fully with the authorities upon her surrender.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office executed the arrest based on a warrant related to the alleged probation infraction. This development traces back to February, when Heitmann entered a no-contest plea to charges of DUI, specifically with a blood alcohol level of 0.15 or higher, from an incident dated August 28, 2024.

Part of Heitmann’s probation terms included an absolute prohibition on alcohol consumption, along with mandatory random screenings to ensure compliance. In a Facebook statement released Thursday, she confirmed undergoing such a screening on March 26.

Heitmann’s recent detention is linked to her initial DUI arrest, highlighting ongoing legal challenges for the mayor as she navigates the repercussions of her previous actions. The incident underscores the stringent conditions placed on those serving probation, particularly in cases involving impaired driving.

“The test returned a result I disputed immediately,” she wrote.

Two subsequent screens — a urine test and a hair follicle analysis — returned negative results, Heitmann said. She noted that she “did not wait to be asked. I acted.”

Upon learning that she would be arrested, Heitmann said she attempted to voluntarily surrender to authorities on April 17 based on the earlier disputed test result. However, she said she was told “the system was not yet ready to process my surrender.”

She turned herself in Monday after her warrant became active.

“I did not resist,” Heitmann wrote. “I did not hide. I showed up — because that is what I have always done. I will not shrink from this moment, and I will not allow a false story to define my character or my record of service.”

Court documents cited by the Naples Daily News alleged Heitmann tested positive for cannabinoids.

Her attorney, Derek Verderamo, argued two samples collected from Heitmann tested negative on March 26 and March 30 for illegal cannabinoids.

Fox News has reached out to the city government and Verderamo for comment.

Heitmann was originally arrested in August 2024, after breathalyzer tests determined that she had a blood-alcohol content of 0.155 and 0.169; the legal limit in Florida is 0.08.

Revolutionary Sex Technique Promises Relief from Menopause Symptoms

0

One year into her second marriage, television anchor and podcaster Tamsen Fadal asked her husband what he wanted for Christmas. His playful response was, “I just want you, tied up in a big, red bow.” Taking the request to heart, Fadal decided to surprise him. “I found a big red bow, wrapped myself up naked, and there I was,” she recalls.

The following Christmas, when her husband, Ira, expressed a desire for the same whimsical gift, Fadal’s reaction was quite different. “You’re crazy,” she told him in an interview with the Daily Mail. “All I wanted to do was stay in bed and watch Netflix.”

At 51, Fadal was experiencing menopause, which had dramatically impacted her hormones and extinguished her libido. “I really loved my husband,” she shared, “but it wasn’t just ‘not tonight’—I had completely stopped thinking about sex.”

She described the change as a sudden shift, where everything felt muted, as if someone had turned down the volume on her life. This lack of energy affected her ability to exercise and even impacted her passion for her beloved career in the newsroom.

Fadal is also the author of the New York Times bestseller, “How to Menopause: Take Charge of Your Health, Reclaim Your Life, and Feel Even Better Than Before,” where she offers guidance for navigating this life stage.

A 12-time Emmy award-winning journalist and producer and anchor of PIX11 News in NYC, she lives with her TV executive husband Ira Bernstein between New York City and Santa Monica.

Now 55, she is making it her mission to tell the truth about menopause to other midlife women – and to empower them so they don’t have to suffer the way she did.

She is part of a burgeoning, and starry, movement to demystify and destigmatize it. Halle Berry, Naomi Watts, Drew Barrymore, Gwyneth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz have all become champions of menopause awareness and products designed to help ease the symptoms which sometimes accompany it.

At the age of 51, Tamsen Fadal no longer had energy for exercise, or for the career in the newsroom she loved so much

At the point her libido crashed, Fadal was already taking estrogen and progesterone for her menopause. ‘It had taken me a long time to start on these hormones,’ she said. ‘Even in my early 40s, no-one was talking about the menopause. Maybe there were jokes about “hormones” or “The Change” – which you weren’t allowed to mention.

‘But because I lost my mom to breast cancer when I was 20 and she was 51, it was never a conversation in my family. I’d certainly never heard the word “perimenopause.”‘

Perimenopause, or ‘around menopause,’ is the period when a woman’s hormones start to fluctuate, starting in her 40s, sometimes earlier. A woman is officially in menopause when she goes 12 consecutive months without a period.

‘Even though I worked in news, I had no understanding of menopause at all,’ said Fadal.

In her mid 40s, Fadal started to feel anxious, muddle-headed, constantly waking up at 3am and unable to go back to sleep.

She went to see her doctor, who prescribed her Lexapro, an antidepressant. ‘I later looked back at my notes, which said “patient complaining of weight gain and moodiness,”‘ said Fadal. ‘So many of us have been there: sitting in a doctor’s office, feeling dismissed and handed a prescription for antidepressants, when the real issue is menopause.’

Matters finally came to a head in 2019, when, after weeks of poor sleep and brain fog, Fadal had a debilitating episode in the middle of a broadcast. ‘I felt a hot blast from inside, an epic eruption that superheated the surface of my skin,’ she said. ‘I thought I was going to fall over. In the commercial break, I went and laid down on the cool floor of the bathroom, germs be damned. “What is this?” I thought.’

Fadal went to see her OBGYN. ‘Later, I visited the patient portal to find the words: “in menopause: any questions?” written there,’ she said. ‘And that is how I found out. I was mortified: I didn’t understand – I was only 48. How could this be menopause?’

She started visiting doctors to discuss hormone therapy (HT) with them and was prescribed estrogen and progestogen.

This combination helped Fadal at first. ‘I started sleeping again, the hot flashes resolved and I started feeling like myself,’ she said. ‘But then, two years in, I noticed my drive and libido had gone through the floor.’

Always keen on fitness, Fadal now found herself reluctant to work out. ‘I used to get up super-early to exercise, but during that year I had nothing,’ she said. ‘I felt sluggish and went from a regular gym-goer, to only going once a week – even finding any excuse to get out of that, to stay in bed.’

In her mid 40s, Fadal started to feel anxious, muddle-headed, constantly waking up at 3am and unable to go back to sleep

And so, Fadal decided to seek medical guidance once more. ‘Now what? I thought,’ she said. ‘What’s wrong with me?’

It took a while for Fadal’s new concerns to be taken seriously. Her first doctor – a woman – suggested Fadal see a sex therapist. ‘She made me feel that there was something wrong with me – that it was a psychological disorder to want sex,’ she said. ‘I later discovered this isn’t that uncommon – there is a feeling that (unlike with men) sex is a luxury. Women aren’t talking about it enough, and this has to change.’

Meanwhile, during conversations with doctors and friends, Fadal started to hear mentions of testosterone therapy as part of menopause treatment. ‘I didn’t know much about testosterone,’ she said. ‘I thought, “That’s for guys.” All I could think about was these huge, grunting men, with their sweaty muscles and no hair. I wasn’t even aware that women had testosterone in their bodies: I thought estrogen was in the female column and testosterone in the male column.’

But having Googled and overcome her fears of getting ‘acne, male pattern baldness and an Adam’s apple,’ Fadal came to understand that testosterone is part of a woman’s normal hormonal make-up: vital for drive and libido.

In 2023, at the age of 52, she visited a new doctor who gave her a blood test revealing she had zero testosterone in her body. (Normal testosterone levels for women are typically between 15 and 70 nanograms per deciliter).

‘This doctor was happy to talk to me about testosterone, and she gave it to me in the form of pellets, which were implanted in my hip,’ she said.

The problem was that this method worked perhaps too well – and then not at all. ‘For two months I was crawling all over my husband, attacking him,’ said Fadal. ‘Then my libido just crashed. One night he reached for me in bed, and I said, “Get away from me.”‘

She finally saw a new OBGYN who ‘didn’t treat me like there was something wrong with me and was willing to talk the subject through properly.’

After some trial and error, Fadal found her balance.

She now takes a daily pea-sized dollop of testosterone gel, which she rubs into the back of her leg every morning. ‘I had heard of people overdoing it – if you take too much, side effects can include palpitations or growing new hair, but these have never happened to me,’ she said. ‘My advice is: follow the rules.’

For Fadal, testosterone has been a ‘game-changer.’ ‘A few weeks after I started treatment, something in my brain clicked back on,’ she said. ‘My libido and energy came roaring back. These days, I’m more energetic: I want to have sex, and to think about having sex. I went from hating the gym to being back in the gym.’

And she’s certainly active, walking an hour and a half before work every day, strength training in the gym three times a week, plus a session of yoga or Pilates on weekends.

‘All this is great for my mind and body,’ she said. ‘Being on testosterone has certainly helped the definition come back into my arms and my body is much closer to its pre-menopause state. No, I’m not going to be 25 or 35 again but, in some ways, I feel better than I did then. The most important thing is that I’m in control of my body. I’m doing great: I’m back, baby!’

What would she say to midlife women who find themselves in the same position, exhausted, sleeping badly and with no libido?

‘When it comes to your menopause – whether it’s HT in general, or testosterone in particular – the most important thing is to get educated and take control,’ Fadal said. She believes that all women of menopausal age should insist on a proper hormone test from their OBGYN.

‘Don’t accept it when your doctor says they “can’t do it” or they “don’t understand,” she said. ‘Don’t give up. Don’t think there aren’t solutions – because there are.’

Former Nigerian international Michael Eneramo has tragically passed away after collapsing during a friendly match on Friday.

The 40-year-old reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest just five minutes into the second half of the game, according to initial reports from the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).

Eneramo had participated fully in the first half of the match, which took place in Ungwan Yelwa, Kaduna, on Friday morning.

“This is heartbreaking. I am at a loss for words right now,” expressed NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, reflecting the shock felt across the football community.

Eneramo had the honor of representing Nigeria in 10 international matches, opting to play for his home country despite being offered the chance to represent Tunisia, where he had a successful club career and considered obtaining citizenship.

He was nicknamed “The Tank” by fans of Espérance Sportive de Tunis, which he helped to “a number of silverwares,” the NFF said. He also played in Turkey for Sivasspor, Beşiktaş and Başakşehir among others.

Eneramo made his Nigeria debut against Jamaica in a friendly in February 2009, then scored his first international goal against Ireland in the next game three months later, also a friendly.

Fuel Prices Fluctuate, Employment Trends Evolve, and New Tax Break Introduced: Key Insights to Watch

0

This week was marked by a whirlwind of events that touched everything from global markets to the latest in artificial intelligence, capturing the attention of many. The volatility seen in financial markets has raised concerns about the recent decrease in petrol prices, which now seem at risk. In the midst of these economic fluctuations, the government unveiled a new tax deduction initiative aimed at enabling taxpayers to lower their taxable income in the coming year.

Oil prices were notably affected, with a significant surge due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The conflict has once again prompted anxiety among investors about the stability of global markets, particularly concerning the critical Strait of Hormuz. This vital waterway has been a focal point of geopolitical strife, causing unpredictable fluctuations in oil prices.

By the end of the week, the price of Brent crude had escalated to approximately US$105 (or $160) per barrel, reflecting an increase of over 15% in just a few days. Such a rise underscores the fragile nature of current global economic conditions and the interconnectedness of geopolitical events and market dynamics.

Oil prices jump, threatening fall in fuel costs

And, as always in the realm of finance, the topic of artificial intelligence continues to be a prominent subject of discussion, promising to influence various sectors in unforeseen ways. This week was indeed a microcosm of the complexities and interdependencies that define our modern world.

By Friday, brent crude had climbed to around US$105 ($160) a barrel — a jump of more than 15 per cent across the week.

It threatens a recent fall in petrol prices.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission on Friday said across Australia’s five largest capitals, the average unleaded petrol price was around 65 cents cheaper than on the 31 March, while diesel was 45.5 cents lower, although most of that occurred in the past week.

The war in the Middle East also prompted a fall in global markets, as US markets fell from record highs ahead of important tech earnings next week.

A $1,000 tax deduction is coming

The federal government unveiled draft legislation for it’s $1,000 “instant” tax deduction announced during last year’s federal election campaign.

It will allow more than six million workers to reduce their taxable income by $1,000 — without receipts.

It’s designed to simplify tax time, particularly for people who don’t usually claim work-related expenses.

But there’s a catch — the financial benefit won’t be felt immediately.

The average saving is expected to be about $205, and it will not flow through until the second half of next year.

AI is reshaping jobs and big money is flowing in

Demand for artificial intelligence (AI) skills is accelerating, with job ads mentioning AI keywords on employment website SEEK jumping 75 per cent over the past year.

While AI-related job ads still make up a small share of total job listings, the direction is clear. Workers who build digital and AI capabilities are likely to be better positioned as the labour market evolves.

At the same time, global tech giants are doubling down on Australia.

Microsoft this week announced a $25 billion investment in data centres and AI infrastructure, alongside plans to help train three million Australians in AI skills by 2028.

That follows a similar $20 billion commitment from Amazon earlier this year.

Young Australians turning to AI, influencers for financial advice

New data suggests younger Australians are increasingly relying on online sources for financial information including AI tools, social media and so-called ‘finfluencers’.

Financial regulator the Australian Securities and Investment Commission said around 64 per cent of Gen Z it surveyed said they trust financial information from AI platforms, while more than half look to social media or influencers.

Regulators are concerned that not all of these sources are reliable or qualified to give advice, and have stepped up enforcement in response.

For consumers, it’s a reminder to be cautious about where financial information comes from especially when it involves investment decisions or major life choices.
