Inside the Lavish Lifestyle of Pam Bondi’s Alleged Partner, John Wakefield

In a twist of fate for Pam Bondi, the former Attorney General found herself without a job in 2026. However, Donald Trump reassured the public that she was transitioning to the private sector. Fortunately, Bondi’s partner, John Wakefield, seems well-positioned financially. With Bondi’s substantial assets—though unconfirmed—and Wakefield’s thriving business ventures, they likely enjoy an opulent lifestyle.

Despite Bondi’s high-profile role in Trump’s second administration, albeit only for the first year, little is known about Wakefield. So scarce are the details that it remains unclear whether he and Bondi have tied the knot. Yet, what is evident is Wakefield’s lucrative career. He is the executive vice president at a real estate development firm and previously co-founded a private equity company. Both roles suggest significant financial success, and according to Forbes, these aren’t his only sources of income.

A March 2025 Forbes feature on the couple’s wealth disclosed that Wakefield holds partial ownership in two apartment complexes and a shopping center. While his stakes in two properties range between $100,000 and $250,000 and the third between $500,000 and $1 million, these investments still represent substantial value. Additionally, Forbes highlighted that Wakefield and Bondi collectively boast a $1 million fortune, a testament to their comfortable lifestyle, bolstered by their influence within MAGA circles.

In a March 2025 profile on the couple’s wealth, Forbes revealed that Wakefield was a partial owner of two apartment estates and a shopping complex. Granted, the outlet also pointed out that Wakefield’s stakes in two of the properties were valued at between $100,000 and $250,000, while the other was valued at between $500,000 and $1 million, but that’s still an impressive valuation. And that wasn’t all. Forbes also noted that both Wakefield and his political missus had a whopping $1 million in their accounts. Like we said, fairly cushy, and that’s not even taking into account his and Bondi’s social capital in MAGA-land.

Bondi shared insights into their social connections, noting, “All the spouses on the cabinet have become friends,” and highlighted Wakefield’s camaraderie with Rachel Campos-Duffy, wife of Sean Duffy. Bondi added that Wakefield has bonded with other political spouses, such as Kelly Loeffler’s husband, and is keen on connecting with Abe, Tulsi Gabbard’s husband. “It’s really fun,” she remarked.

John Wakefield seems to be close with the MAGA crowd

With Trump mentioning Bondi’s move to the private sector, it’s conceivable that her network might assist in securing her next role, given her previous collaboration with Susie Wiles before assuming the AG position. This connection could allow Bondi and Wakefield to sustain their luxurious lifestyle. Yet, there’s a chance that the camaraderie among MAGA spouses may have cooled towards Wakefield, potentially limiting their ability to leverage these relationships. Regardless, Wakefield’s independent financial cushion seems ample to maintain their affluent status.

“All the spouses on the cabinet, they’ve all become friends,” Bondi gushed to Miller, adding that Wakefield and Sean Duffy’s wife, Rachel Campos-Duffy, got on great. That wasn’t all, though, as Bondi shared, “All the men — Jeff, Kelly Loeffler’s husband — they’ve all become good friends. And you know, John’s trying to get together with Abe, Tulsi [Gabbard’s] husband, and it’s really fun.”

With that in mind, perhaps when Trump said Bondi would be going into the private sector, he meant someone in the high-profile squad would help her find a new gig (after all, she did previously work with Susie Wiles before becoming U.S. AG). That would mean she and Wakefield could keep on keeping on with their boujie lifestyles without too much of a worry. However, there’s also a possibility the MAGA spouses squad isn’t quite as welcoming to Wakefield anymore, so we wouldn’t necessarily bank on them being able to use those connections. Just as well he has those nest eggs of his own, then.

A well-known nonprofit leader, devoted to combating crime and fostering economic development in Santa Monica, was discovered dead in his residence this week alongside his wife.

Jeremy Ferguson, who held the position of director of operations at Downtown Santa Monica Inc., and his 49-year-old wife, Mandy Zelinka, both succumbed to gunshot injuries, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The authorities are treating the incident at their Venice home as a murder-suicide, as confirmed by the LAPD.

The LAPD responded to a report of a shooting on the 600 block of Superba Avenue at 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, according to coverage by the LA Times.

While the investigation is ongoing, police revealed that Ferguson had sent a suicide note via email to a friend, which included details on how to access the home, as reported by NBC Los Angeles.

That friend then went to the home, stumbled upon what happened, and called the police.

Debbie Lee, the chief executive of Downtown Santa Monica, said in a statement on Wednesday that employees are heartbroken over the death of Ferguson.

‘Jeremy was a cherished member of our team and a true champion for Downtown Santa Monica,’ she said. ‘His passion for placemaking and the dedication he brought to his work each day made a lasting impact. He will be deeply missed.’

Jowanda Dziesinski, who runs a pedicab tour business in Santa Monica, knew both Ferguson and Zelinka, telling the California Post that the couple helped foster art, culture and business in the area after moving there about three years ago.

‘I’m in total shock. It just doesn’t line up for me. He was just full of future projects,’ Dziesinski said. ‘I feel shocked and am upset on a personal level. And I also feel disbelief about the scenario that’s being presented. It doesn’t make sense.’

Downtown Santa Monica is a nonprofit that works with the city to create economic stability and put on community events in the downtown district.

It is funded through property assessments, the business license tax, city contracts and revenue from events.

MEMORISE: But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O Lord, make no tarrying. – Psalm 70:5 (KJV)

READ: 2 Kings 6:1-7 (KJV)

1 And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.

2 Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.

3 And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.

4 So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.

5 But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.

6 And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.

7 Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Kings 19-21

Open Heaven 25 April 2026 MESSAGE

It is very important for children of God to know the things they can do to attract God’s help. The Bible is filled with several accounts of how people attracted God’s help, and over the next few days, I will be discussing some of these accounts and things you can do to attract divine help.

In today’s Bible reading, the sons of the prophets were felling wood by River Jordan when the axe head of the axe that one of them was using fell into the river. The man cried to the man of God for help, and God stepped in to remedy the situation. God helps those who cry to Him for help. In Psalm 3:4, David said, “I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill.” Also, in Mark 10:46-52, Bartimaeus cried out to Jesus, and despite attempts by some people around him to shut him up, he refused to be silenced. As a result of his persistent cries for help, Jesus had mercy on him, and he received his sight.

Sometimes, when I see people praying nonchalantly, I wonder if they really want God’s help. If you really want to receive help from the only One who can truly come to your aid, you must shun pride and approach Him humbly for help. (2 Chronicles 7:14) says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

I remember when I just joined The Redeemed Christian Church of God. During a service, somebody on the altar said, “Praise the Lord,” and the fellow who was sitting beside me shouted ‘Hallelujah’ so loudly that I almost ran out of the church. Beloved, don’t let anything prevent you from being fervent in the things of God. When it is time to praise Him, dance with all the strength within you. Also, when it is time to pray, let your focus be on Him alone. When you are in the presence of your Maker, nothing else should matter. Believe me, God is still in the business of performing miracles as He did in the days of old. If you humbly cry out to Him in prayers, He will indeed arise to help you.

Open Heaven 25 April 2026 HYMN 15 – Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour

1 Pass me not, O gentle Savior
Hear my humble cry,
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

Savior, Savior,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

2 Let me at a throne of mercy
Find a sweet relief;
Kneeling there in deep contrition
Help my unbelief.

3 Trusting only in Thy merit
Would I seek Thy face
Heal my wounded, broken spirit,
Save me by Thy grace.

4 Thou the Spring of all my comfort
More than life to me
Whom have I on earth beside Thee
Whom in heav’n but Thee?

DCLM Daily Manna 25 April 2026 — Seek Christ While He’s Near

DCLM Daily Manna 25 April 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Seek Christ While He’s Near

TOPIC: Seek Christ While He’s Near (DCLM Daily Manna 25 April 2026)

KEY VERSE: I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not – Song Of Solomon 3:2

TEXT: Song Of Solomon 3:1-5 (KJV)

1 By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

2 I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

3 The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?

4 It was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me.

5 I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

Many times, we leave undone things that should demand our urgent attention. We desire a better and more opportune time. But it never comes, because in reality, the best time to attend to matters of such importance is now. Immediate action bears bountiful fruits, while procrastination results in huge losses and sometimes, avoidable suffering and pain.

The personality in our passage represents the Church of Jesus Christ. She faced sore trials, personal discomfort and inconvenience in her search for her beloved Saviour and Lord. Her account shows that we cannot find Christ by merely sitting in the cool comfort of our private space. While in bed, probably in a dream, she sought the Lord whom she loved so much, but did not find Him. Disappointed, she rose up and headed into the city, even at a most inconvenient hour. She walked the streets and highways all to no avail. She ran into the watchmen of the city, whose job it was to apprehend missing people, but they were of no help in searching out those who had lost their way. She continued her search, and only a short distance from the watchmen, she found her beloved. Holding tightly to him, and without letting him out of her sight, she brought him home. Wearied from his wandering, he quickly fell asleep. She, in turn, promptly warned all potential intruders to steer clear of her beloved and allow him to take a deserved rest.

We must desire fellowship with Christ more than anything else in life. And where this fellowship is broken either because of carelessness or deliberate disobedience and rebellion, you must arise and “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near”. You should spare no effort, search for Him with all your heart, and never give up until you have the witness of the Holy Spirit that He has accepted you, and that the peace and comfort of God now rest in your soul. If you are a watchman, a minister in the house of God, you must not be merely satisfied with putting up an appearance in your duty post. Do all you can to bring lost and wandering souls back to the Lord.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Christ’s arms are wide enough to embrace all who come to Him.

Wicked Star Marissa Bode Alleges Discrimination: Denied Boarding by Southern Airways Due to Wheelchair

0

Marissa Bode, known for her role in “Wicked,” recently spoke out against Southern Airways, accusing the airline of denying her boarding due to her disability. Bode, who has relied on a wheelchair since a car accident at the age of 11, shared her experience on TikTok, expressing her frustration and disappointment.

The 25-year-old actress recounted the incident, which occurred during a layover while she was en route to a speaking engagement in Pennsylvania. Her journey started smoothly with United Airlines, but complications arose when she attempted to board her connecting flight with Southern Airways, a regional carrier operating in just eight states.

Upon reaching the gate, Bode approached the airline staff for assistance with her boarding pass. “I got to the gate and was like, ‘Hey, could you help me locate my boarding pass?’” she explained, detailing the moment things began to unravel.

Describing the ordeal as “awful,” Bode has been vocal about her experience, seeking to raise awareness about the challenges faced by travelers with disabilities. Her account has sparked discussions on social media, highlighting the ongoing issues of accessibility and inclusivity in air travel.

“I got to the gate and was like, ‘Hey, could you help me locate my boarding pass?’” she said.

“And the two people at the gate look at me and they’re like, ‘Can you stand?’ And I said, ‘No.’ And they said, ‘I’m sorry, because of that we’re gonna have to deny you boarding.’”

Bode said she was stunned by the explanation that followed.

“They proceeded to tell me all the planes within this airline have stairs to get on the plane. Wild. Never heard of that before … You’re telling me none of the people who have flown on your plane before are disabled?”

She went on to call the situation “blatant segregation,” adding that staff also raised concerns about her 35-pound wheelchair.

The actress said her team had already coordinated with the airline before the trip.

“My manager spoke to them beforehand and they fully assured that I would be set for my flight,” she said, suggesting the denial came despite prior arrangements.

“It is always something when I’m flying,” she said. “It is very rare that I’m flying and there isn’t a problem with my chair or I’m not talked down to.”

She added that the situation went beyond a simple mix-up.

“It’s so much more than bad communication,” she said. “It’s so much more than a mistake. These are our lives. This is our entire existence you’re talking about. My wheelchair is my freedom.”

Bode also addressed how she felt reacting in the moment.

“And of course when I’m crying out of frustration and talking to the people at the gate very firmly, I look like a crazy person,” she continued. “I look like the one that’s in the wrong.”

Ultimately, she had no choice but to make the trip by car instead.

“I had to drive three and a half hours to get to my destination,” she said, before blasting the airline directly: “You should be ashamed of yourself.”

“And airlines as a whole, once again, do f—ing better,” she added.

Under the Air Carrier Access Act, airlines are prohibited from discriminating against passengers with disabilities and are required to assist, including help with boarding and connections.

However, Southern Airways’ contract of carriage states that passengers “must be able to ascend and descend several steps” due to the design of its smaller aircraft, which typically carry fewer than 30 passengers.

The airline notes that it is not required under federal law to provide mechanical lifts in those cases, though ramps may sometimes be available.

The incident comes as Bode continues to gain visibility following her role as Nessarose in “Wicked.”

After the original film’s release in 2024, she faced backlash online tied to her character, with some viewers criticizing Nessarose as a “bad sister” to Elphaba — commentary that spilled into hateful comments about her disability.

“Aggressive comments and jokes about Nessa’s disability itself is deeply uncomfortable, because disability is not fictional,” Bode said at the time.

Rhapsody Of Realities 25 April 2026: You’re The Manifestation Of Christ In The Earth

Rhapsody Of Realities 25 April 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): You’re The Manifestation Of Christ In The Earth

TOPIC: You’re The Manifestation Of Christ In The Earth (Rhapsody of Realities 25 April 2026)

But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17).

Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:

As a Christian, you must come to terms with the reality of the Gospel and the reality of who you are. You’re not someone who has embraced a religion but one in whom the life of God is tabernacled. When you received Christ, you were joined together with Him; you became one spirit with Him. You and Christ have become one. It’s an inseparable union.

The Bible says, “But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:17). This is what makes Christianity real, living, and active. The Bible says, “…Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). Sin once robbed man of God’s glory, cutting him off from the divine life.

But now, sin has been put away in Christ Jesus, and glory has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature….” This new creation is a divine being with the very nature of God. Being born again, you’re superior to Satan. Sin has no dominion over you (Romans 6:14).

The new creation walks in newness of life, a life lived in righteousness, without condemnation, where you’re not striving to reach God, for you’re in Him, and He’s in you. Wherever you are, God is. He talks through you, He sees through your eyes, He walks through you, blesses and touches lives through you, because He lives in you.

Let this be your meditation, your consciousness. You’re not a mere man; you’re the expression of Christ in the earth!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for your divine life in me and the manifestation of your glory and righteousness in and through me. I’m conscious that I’m in Christ and Christ is in me. I walk in righteousness, free from condemnation, manifesting your love, power and presence to my world, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Colossians 1:26-27 (KJV) Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: [27] To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

2 Corinthians 4:7-11 (KJV) But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. [8] We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; [9] Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; [10] Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. [11] For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

Romans 6:4 (KJV) Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

US Military Successfully Targets and Eliminates Suspected Narco-Terrorists in High-Stakes Pacific Drug Bust

0

The United States military executed a deadly strike on a vessel suspected of drug trafficking in the Eastern Pacific on Friday, resulting in the deaths of two individuals believed to be narco-terrorists, as reported by U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM).

According to a statement released by SOUTHCOM, “On April 24, under the direction of SOUTHCOM commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan, Joint Task Force Southern Spear carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations.”

The statement further explained that intelligence had confirmed the vessel was navigating known drug-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was actively involved in drug-trafficking operations. “Two male narco-terrorists were killed during this action,” the statement added, noting that no U.S. military personnel were harmed.

Although the identities of the deceased and the specific organizations involved were not disclosed, the operation underscores ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.

SOUTHCOM did not immediately provide additional details about the identities of those killed or the specific groups involved.

The U.S. military has carried out numerous strikes in recent months on suspected drug-smuggling vessels as part of a broader campaign to dismantle cartel-linked trafficking operations.

The strike comes less than a week after SOUTHCOM said it conducted a similar operation in the Caribbean, killing three suspected narco-terrorists.

Earlier this month, the military struck a suspected drug-trafficking vessel in the Eastern Pacific, killing four alleged narco-terrorists, SOUTHCOM said.

SOUTHCOM is responsible for military operations in Central and South America and the Caribbean, including counter-narcotics missions aimed at disrupting drug trafficking networks that threaten U.S. interests.

The Eastern Pacific remains a key corridor for narcotics trafficking, with cartels often using small, fast-moving vessels to transport drugs toward the U.S. and Central America.

Disgraced Socialite Denies Responsibility in Ongoing Fatal Hit-and-Run Case Controversy

0

Rebecca Grossman, who was found guilty of killing two children, continues to deny her culpability in the tragic deaths of two young brothers she struck with her fast-moving Mercedes nearly six years ago, a jury was informed on Friday.

Her former partner, Scott Erickson—a past professional baseball player—also denies blame for the heartbreaking accident. The incident occurred in Westlake Village, just west of Los Angeles, in September 2020. Attorney Brian Panish, representing the boys’ parents, Nancy and Karim Iskander, stated that both Grossman, 64, and Erickson, 58, were involved in a ‘race’ when the crash occurred at a pedestrian crossing, resulting in the deaths of Mark, 11, and Jacob, 8.

In his opening statement during the wrongful death civil trial, Panish criticized, “Even now, they refuse to accept responsibility.” He added, “Miss Grossman will never acknowledge her part.”

Instead, Panish argued, Grossman has been deflecting blame onto the boys’ parents and attributing the tragedy to the crosswalk being at a “hazardous intersection.”

Addressing the jury of eight women and four men, he incredulously asked, “Blaming the parents—seriously?” He interpreted her stance as an attempt to evade accountability, noting that she wouldn’t be present in court to face the consequences.

Grossman is serving 15 years to life in prison after a jury at her February 2024 criminal trial found her guilty of two counts each of second degree murder and vehicular manslaughter, plus one of hit-and-run.

Her legal team at her murder trial pushed a defense strategy that blamed the deadly crash on Erickson, who was driving his black Mercedes just ahead of Grossman – and racing her, according to Panish – after the two had earlier shared cocktails.

But the 6ft 4in ex-ballplayer – who didn’t show his face at Grossman’s 6-week criminal trial, and was again a no-show on Friday – was only given a slap-on-the-wrist misdemeanor reckless driving charge that was dismissed after he made a public service announcement to high school students about the importance of safe driving.

Despite the lack of criminal charges against the former MLB pitcher, the Iskanders named Erickson in their civil lawsuit alongside her, holding him equally responsible for the fatal crash.

The grieving parents – who were in court Friday – are seeking, in the words of Panish, ‘tens and tens and tens of millions’ in damages for the loss of their beloved boys.

Erickson – who played for six MLB teams during 16-year baseball career, winning the World Series with the Minnesota Twins in 1991 – vehemently denies any blame in the tragic deaths of the Iskander boys, insisting that Grossman was the only one who caused the horrific pile-up.

He was having a love affair with then wealthy socialite when she was separated from her plastic surgeon husband Dr Pete Grossman, who is also a defendant in the lawsuit as the owner of the Mercedes she was driving at the time of the crash.

At Friday’s opening statements after four days of jury selection, Nancy Iskander buried her head in her hands as Panish showed touching pictures of the victims in happier times, including a moving video she had taken of one of the boys at his birthday party.

‘They were best friends, they were inseparable….they played together….and they died together,’ said the lawyer.

The family, cooped up during covid and anxious for some fresh air, took an evening walk together, with Nancy ahead with Mark and Jacob and their five year-old brother Zachary and Karim lagging behind with baby Violet in a stroller.

As she walked over the crosswalk with the boys, ‘Mrs Iskander heard a revving of engines,’ as two Mercedes bore down on them, Panish told jurors.

’She grabbed her son Zchary and dove out of the way.’

The next thing she saw was the broken bodies of her boys. Mark was thrown 252 feet by the impact, of Grossman’s car.

Jacob landed 73 feet away from where the cars struck him, the court heard. Coming across the horrifying scene, Karim tried to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to one of his dying sons. But it was too late, ‘ said Panish.

‘He sits down and starts to weep. His beautiful family is wiped away by the poor choices people made.’

Panish told the court that multiple witnesses will testify that Grossman and Erickson were racing just before the crash. Grossman’s car was clocked at in excess of 80mph in the 45mph limit, as recorded by the vehicle’s on-board computer, he said. This is undisputed.

That’s 120 feet per second. Had she been traveling at the legal speed limit, she would have been almost 600 feet from the boys as they crossed the crosswalk.

‘Mr Erickson may say that he was only going at 50mph but we are going to prove that is not true.’

One key witness the Iskanders’ legal team plans to call during trial is ex-baseball player Royce Clayton, a longtime friend of Erickson.

In video testimony played for the jury by Panish, Royce said that in a phone call just after the crash, Erickson admitted that he was racing Grossman, who was behind him, that he ‘swerved to avoid the kids’ and that Mrs Grossman ‘hit the children.’

‘Mr Erickson will say that’s not true,’ added Panish. ‘But why would a friend of 30 years make that up?’

He accused both Grossman and Erickson of ‘fleeing the scene of the crash afterward…or at least trying to.’ Grossman’s car continued on for 1,700 feet after hitting the boys, ‘ he said, with the vehicle only coming to a stop because of an inbuilt safety measure that cut the engine to prevent fire.

‘If it was up to her she would have gone home and said nothing,’ Panish told the jury. ’Mr Erickson left the scene, parked his car and hid in the bushes for three hours watching the scene of the crash.’

Panish played a video deposition by Grossman’s daughter Alexis – who was 17 at the time of the crash – telling an interviewer that she saw Erickson the night of the accident and he was ‘angry and frantic’ and had the smell of alcohol on his breath.

The Iskanders’ lawyers claim that both Grossman and Erickson were ‘impaired’ at the time of the crash, having both been drinking alcohol earlier in day.

Grossman had been drinking with friends earlier and Erickson was at a bar drinking beer when the two met up for margaritas with Royce Clayton at Westlake restaurant Julio’s Agave Grill.

She ‘flunked’ a roadside sobriety test, said Panish and had a blood alcohol level that was recorded as .08 – the legal limit – three hours after the crash. She also had barbiturates in her system, ‘which can enhance impairment with alcohol.’

Without saying in open court that Grossman is behind bars for killing the boys, Panish made a point of emphasizing that she wasn’t in the courtroom Friday.

’She might say that she didn’t know she hit the boys – but she’s not going to be here to tell you,’ he said. In her opening statement, Grossman’s attorney, Esther Holm told jurors that there were other factors involved in the crash and there was ‘a rush to judgment’ in determining that Rebecca was the sole cause of the accident.’

‘We believe that Miss Grossman was not driving impaired. And there is no evidence that she was racing.’

Evidence will show that Miss Grossman never saw the children. She did not try to flee the scene.

‘Her airbag deployed, causing a big cloud of dust in the vehicle so she could not see the children.’

Holm said that she believed Grossman was traveling ’slower at the time of impact than Mr Erickson’ and that when police asked after the crash to inspect his black Mercedes, he produced ‘the wrong one” (Erickson owned two black Mercedes SUVs).

She added that although he saw the boys in the crosswalk before he drove through, ‘he did not do anything to warn’ Grossman, like flash his lights.

After the crash he went to Grossman’s nearby house and returned to the crash scene on foot and ‘stood 10 yards away for three hours but never identifying himself to officers.’ Holm told the court that at the time of the crash, Grossman was separated from her husband and dating Erickson.

‘This was not some sordid affair going on behind Dr. Grossman’s back. The attorney cited the fact that there were no stop signs, no street lights and no flashing lights at the crosswalk as a factor in the accident and said that several local people had complained about safety problems at the intersection.

‘But the City of Westlake Village knew about the problems but did nothing about them.’

Addressing jurors in her opening statement, Erickson’s attorney, Deborah Tropp said that her client, ‘is going to testify that he was not racing Rebecca Grossman or anybody else.’

She questioned the accuracy of eye witnesses who accused the two of speeding and racing, saying that their testimony ‘contradicted’ each other.

‘Mr Erickson believes that he was going 50-55mph,’ she said, adding that when he saw the boys in the crosswalk, ‘he believed he would have hit them if he braked -so he decided to speed up and go around them.

‘He looked back and they were still in the crosswalk unharmed and he not see any headlights behind him…it was dark.

‘He went back to Grossman’s house nearby where he got a phone call from her in which she said, “Something bad happened,” He said, “Did you see those kids?” She said, “What kids?” And the line went dead.’

Tropp said that Erickson ran back to the crash scene where police would not allow him to get close.

‘He was not hiding in the bushes.’ Why did he stay for three hours? ‘He will tell you that he was concerned for Miss Grossman,’ continued Tropp.

When he left the crash scene to go back to Grossman’s house he found her daughter Alexis there, but, the lawyer added that the teen’s claim that Erickson ‘was drunk and screamed at her’ was not true.

’She has changed hers story at least two times,’ said Tropp. ‘There was no negative interaction between Mr Erickson and her that evening.’
