MEMORISE: Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, – Luke 1:78 (KJV)

READ: Psalm 65:9-13 (KJV)

9 Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.

10 Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof: thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof.

11 Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness.

12 They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness: and the little hills rejoice on every side.

13 The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Kings 17-18

Open Heaven 24 April 2026 MESSAGE

Years ago, I travelled to Port Harcourt, a city in the South-South region of Nigeria, to hold a crusade, and God specifically told me who I was to stay with. I obeyed the Lord, but I wondered why He chose this person because he was not a member of our church; we were just acquaintances, and I had many spiritual children I could have stayed with in that city. When I arrived at the fellow’s home, he treated me like a king. He also introduced me to his children, and I got on very well with them. One of them clung to me closely, and I started calling him my friend.

On the second day of the crusade, I was preparing to go to the crusade venue when my host drove in from his children’s school. I saw his other children with him, but I didn’t see the one I called my friend, so I asked after him. To my shock, he replied, “Your friend is in the hospital, dying.” He added that he would not have told me if I had not asked, because he saw that I was preparing to go to the crusade venue. Immediately, God told me, “This is why I asked you to stay here.” I then said to him, “We will go to the hospital first. The crusade will wait.” We went to the hospital, and I saw the boy sweating profusely even though he was completely naked in an air-conditioned room. I was told at that point that he had been poisoned in school. As I looked at the doctor, he signalled to me that there was no hope for the boy. Since God had earlier told me that He orchestrated my stay with the family for that reason, I simply said a short prayer and left for the crusade. After the crusade, I returned to the man’s house, and as I was settling in, he drove in with my friend. He had been discharged from the hospital!

Beloved, as you see in today’s Bible reading, many good things will happen to you when God visits you. However, He cannot visit you and give you those good things if you have not given your life to Jesus Christ. If you are not yet born again, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour and surrender your life completely to Him. When you do this, He will make you a part of His family and visit you with many tremendous blessings.

Open Heaven 24 April 2026 HYMN 13 – Jesus Loves Me! This I Know

1 Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong,
They are weak but He is strong.

Refrain:
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

2 Jesus loves me. He who died,
Heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in.

3 Jesus loves me, loves me still
Tho’ I’m very weak and ill
From His shining throne on high
He will watch me where lie.

4 Jesus Loves Me! He Will Stay
Close Beside Me All The Way;
If l love Him when I die.
He will take me home on high.

DCLM Daily Manna 24 April 2026 — Danger Of Falling Back

DCLM Daily Manna 24 April 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Danger Of Falling Back

TOPIC: Danger Of Falling Back (DCLM Daily Manna 24 April 2026)

KEY VERSE: For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. – 2 Peter 2:20 (KJV)

TEXT: 2 Peter 2:11-22 (KJV)

11 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.

12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;

13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;

14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:

15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet.

17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.

18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.

19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

The Telegraph of 22 August 2020 ran a story titled, _Rare Snake to be Reintroduced Across England. It was reported that a rare snake was set to be reintroduced into parts of Britain. The head of Natural England warned that climate change meant the snakes had to be spread across the country in order to survive. The smooth snake is so rare and secretive that experts have no approximate idea of the surviving numbers. Some experts believe that reintroducing the snakes, while a noble goal, can be risky with potential downsides, including harming native species, introducing diseases, and disrupting the ecosystems.

Apostle Peter, in today’s text, warns of the danger of reintroducing sin and other damnable practices into a person’s life. The warning is primarily to believers, who, having been saved, are now enticed by the lure of carnality and worldly treasures. While “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations”, He also has the power to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished. This is contrary to modern-day preachers of eternal security, who teach that once someone is saved, he is always saved. Peter contradicted this false doctrine by his remarks about the “natural brute beasts” speaking “evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption”. Like Baalam of old, preachers of false doctrine deceive their hearers into continuing in sin under the guise that grace covers all sins, and that once the sinner has confessed Christ, he can never lose his salvation.

There is a difference between backsliding, a careless and unguarded slip into sin and apostasy, which is a deliberate departure from the faith. Those who accidentally fall into sin can be redeemed, but apostates cannot. Such souls will end up in hell, prepared for the devil and those who align with him. Paul the apostle also warned, in his inspired writing, that if any man draws back, the Lord shall have no pleasure in him. Make sure that you remain in the company of true believers: never turning back but believing until the final saving of the soul.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The return to sins once forsaken is to avow your weakness of soul and body.

Rhapsody Of Realities 24 April 2026: Christianity Is Christ In You

Rhapsody Of Realities 24 April 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): Christianity Is Christ In You

TOPIC: Christianity Is Christ In You (Rhapsody of Realities 24 April 2026)

To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).

Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:

When the Lord Jesus was glorified, the Holy Spirit was poured out to live in us. Christianity isn’t God “outside” you, helping you; rather, it’s Christ in you, the very life and essence of Christ tabernacled in your spirit.

Salvation is you in Christ: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature…” (2 Corinthians 5:17). But Christianity is Christ in you, Christ manifested in your daily walk, revealing His glory and character. The Lord Jesus talked about the Father in Him: “Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake” (John 14:10-11).

That’s your life now; the Father lives in you; His very life, presence, glory and righteousness are expressed through you. Religion keeps God outside of man, but Christianity makes Him alive in you. Christ is alive in you; let that be your song, your meditation and your consciousness.

Death, sickness, weakness, discouragement, failure and confusion have no place in your life because Christ in you makes you divine. Christ in you means victory in you, courage in you, strength in you. Christ in you means glory in your life, dominion over circumstances, and authority over Satan, demons, hell and death. Hallelujah!

This is Christianity: the unveiling of divinity from within you, the pulsating life of God manifested in and expressed through you. Blessed be God!

CONFESSION

Christ lives in me in all His fullness, strength and glory. Therefore, I walk in boldness, divine wisdom, victory and dominion over circumstances, authority over Satan, demons, hell and death. Thank you Lord for your pulsating life that is manifested in and expressed through me. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY

Galatians 2:20 (KJV) I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

John 14:20 (KJV) At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

Romans 8:10 (KJV) And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Colossians 1:26-27 (NIV) the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. [27] To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Hiker Discovers Human Skull in Famous Desert, Sparking Homicide Investigation

0

A chilling find in a secluded area of Southern California’s desert region has led to a homicide investigation after a hiker came across a human skull.

Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to the report around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The remains were discovered in a rugged locale near the intersection of Adobe Road and Baseline Road in Twentynine Palms.

Officials stated that the skull is believed to belong to an adult and appears to have been subjected to the outdoor elements for a significant duration.

The striking landscape of Joshua trees and towering rock formations in nearby Joshua Tree National Park sets the scene as authorities delve into the case of the discovered skull.

Following standard protocol for situations involving human remains, the Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Detail has assumed control of the investigation. Detectives, in collaboration with the Coroner’s Division and crime scene experts, have thoroughly searched the vicinity and successfully retrieved the skull.

The remains will undergo forensic examination and DNA testing as investigators work to identify the individual and determine how the person died.

Officials said they are comparing the remains against local, regional and national missing persons databases, but no identifying details, including age, sex or other characteristics, are known.

Authorities say there are no known signs of trauma or foul play at this stage, though that could change pending further examination. There are also no known public safety concerns for residents or visitors to the area.

Unveiling the A-List Glow: Celebrities’ Red Carpet Skincare Secrets Revealed

0

As one of Hollywood’s most anticipated events, the Met Gala is fast approaching, promising a night of glitz and glamour.

Scheduled for May 4 in New York City, this star-studded affair has celebrities, athletes, and top-tier personalities pulling out all the stops to ensure they shine on the red carpet.

This year’s theme, “fashion is art,” guides the exclusive guest list as they prepare their ensembles, all while aligning with the broader concept of “costume art.” Among those supporting the event financially are Amazon mogul Jeff Bezos, 62, with an estimated net worth of $224.2 billion, and his wife, Lauren Sanchez, 56.

But beyond the dazzling outfits, the focus is also on flawless skin and radiant faces. Hollywood’s elite are reportedly turning to cutting-edge treatments, including non-FDA-approved peptides, GLP-1s, and even stem cell therapy, to ensure they look their best.

One of the most popular beauty regimens leading up to the Met Gala is a combination of HydraFacial and Laser Genesis treatments, offering a pre-event glow for under $1,000.

Many celebrities, from Beyonce to Kate Winslet, are known to use the HydraFacial to prep before huge events, while Kendall Jenner is reportedly a big fan of Laser Genesis, crediting the treatment as her ‘skincare secret.’

‘HydraFacial and Laser Genesis are the perfect treatments to have before a big event like the Met Gala because they deliver fast visible results without the downtime,’ Susan Hirsch, PA–C at Manhattan Aesthetics in New York City, told the Daily Mail.

They’re both dubbed as ‘lunchtime procedures,’ easy enough to stack on to any current beauty routine and give yourself a little boost.

This is how my skin looked moments before the HydraFacial

This is how my skin looked right afterwards

We put the Met Gala prep to the test, trying out both a HydraFacial and Laser Gensis

The HydraFacial works to deep clean, exfoliate and hydrate the skin through a specialized dermabrasion machine, while the Laser Genesis then works to target the ‘deeper dermis.’

‘The main advantage to having Laser Genesis before an event like the Met Gala though is for overall rejuvenation,’ Hirsch said.

But are these treatments the real deal or are they a total sham?

I decided to put it to the test and got both a $300 HydraFacial and a $350 Laser Genesis treatment at Manhattan Aesthetics just days before their practice becomes booked up with celebrities wanting the same treatment for The Met Gala.

Before I went into the facial, I was feeling quite tired, especially under my eyes. My skin was looking a little sallow too.

I started off by getting the HydraFacial, which began with the aesthetician cleansing my face and applying a gentle acid peel through the tip of the machine that is supposed to help open the pores.

This part of the treatment, unfortunately, was uncomfortable, as the acid peel really stung my face and made it tingle but only for a few minutes. After all, you know what they say – beauty is pain.

After the peel, they then used a suction tip to deep clean my skin, which removed extra debris and dead skin cells and, honestly, felt really good.

‘Eliminating all of this buildup encourages cellular turnover which helps to give the skin a really nice glow and it also dramatically reduces the chance of a last minute breakout before the event,’ Hirsch said.

Once my skin was suctioned, the HydraFacial then infuses a cocktail into the skin that’s full of antioxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid.

They told me that the ‘antioxidants help to protect the skin’ while ‘peptides repair prior damage and hyaluronic acid rehydrates and improves moisture levels.’

‘Coming out of a harsh winter the hyaluronic acid makes a big difference because dehydrated skin is prone to lines and wrinkles and we often see patients who suffer from skin dehydration appear more youthful with an instant softening of lines and wrinkles post treatment,’ Hirsch shared.

For the grand finale, my face then sat under a red light panel for 15 minutes, which was definitely my least favorite part.

In case you haven’t heard, red light therapy is one of the hottest new skincare treatments, as it is supposed to deliver tons of benefits, like boosting collagen and reducing inflammation.

They put goggles on me before I went under the light to protect my eyes, but I still felt a bit strange at first as my eyes adjusted to the blast of red light.

I was skeptical that this treatment would make such a big difference, but once I was handed a mirror to take a look at my skin, I was totally blown away.

After the peel, they then used a suction tip to deep clean my skin, which removed extra debris and dead skin cells and, honestly, felt really good

My skin was absolutely glowing and it looked like I had achieved that ‘glass skin’ look just about everywhere on my face.

The blackheads on my nose were seemingly gone too and I was left glistening.

I think it was a dramatic difference from when I stepped in the door that day and I began to understand why celebrities get this quick fix before the Met Gala or other red carpet events.

After the HydraFacial, it was now time for the Laser Genesis treatment, which I was quite nervous about.

As a beauty writer, I have heard a lot of laser facial horror stories, with various treatments even leaving scars on people’s faces on rare occasions.

However, at Manhattan Aesthetics, I was promised by the Nurse Practitioner there that Laser Genesis was not a harsh treatment and was non–ablative, which means it won’t destroy the surface layer of your skin.

The Nurse Practitioner promised me that the laser would ‘lock in’ my glow and so she began with the less than ten–minute-long treatment. They also named a number of other benefits the treatment has, which include suppressing sebum, fading redness and preventing breakouts.

‘Laser Genesis reduces inflammation and stimulates collagen calming the skin and improving overall luminosity giving that immediate “glow” factor,’ Hirsch said.

Once the laser was heated up, I was given sunglasses to protect my eyes and then she got to work. Each section of my face was hit by a hot laser, which felt like tiny little pinches to the skin.

Once the laser was heated up, I was given glasses to protect my eyes and then she got to work. Each section of my face was hit by a hot laser, which felt like tiny little pinches to the skin.

It didn’t hurt except when the laser was around my lips, it felt a little spicy – but overall, the procedure is so quick that you barely have any time to think about it.

My skin was a bit red afterward, mainly around my nose, as it looked like I had just been out in the sun for a day at the beach.

That night, I received tons of compliments on my skin – but it wasn’t until the next few days that I really noticed a significant difference.

Not only was my makeup easier to put on, but my face was still glowing almost as much as it was right after I had gotten the treatment.

Plus, the Laser Genesis seemed to help reduce the appearance of the milia that I have under my eyes.

Overall, I totally understand why the HydraFacial and Laser Genesis combination are the go–to treatment before The Met Gala because you definitely see instant results.

However, there is one thing that you need to be mindful of, and it’s something that could throw a wrench into anyone’s Met Gala plans.

According to New York City–based facialist Samantha Susca, you may not want to get these treatments done before a big event if you haven’t tried them before.

‘Both treatments are considered very safe, especially when performed by experienced providers, but there is always the potential for sensitivity or allergic reactions,’ Susca told the Daily Mail.

‘It’s generally not recommended to try either treatment for the first time right before a major event,’ Susca continued.

‘If you’ve had them before and know how your skin responds, they can safely be done the day of or the day before an event.’

So for celebrities who haven’t had either of these treatments before, it might not be the best idea to try them the day of on Monday, May 4.

This year’s star–studded guest list at The Met Gala includes members of the host committee such as Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Misty Copeland, Lena Dunham, Angela Bassett, Sam Smith and Chase Sui Wonders.

This year’s gala marks the first in Wintour’s new role as Vogue’s global creative director and chief content officer for Conde Nast, with Chloe Malle taking over as head of editorial content for US Vogue.

Malle’s parents are actress Candice Bergen and French filmmaker Louis Malle.

Major Disruption: CTA Yellow Line Train Derailment Near Howard Street Affects Red and Purple Line Services

0

CHICAGO — A significant disruption hit Chicago’s North Side on Thursday evening when a CTA Yellow Line train derailed, bringing train services to a halt for several lines, according to officials.

As a result of the derailment, passengers experienced a lengthy wait of over an hour before they could disembark at the Howard stop, where shuttle buses were stationed to assist with their continued travel.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

The incident affected the Red, Yellow, and Purple line services in the vicinity of the Howard Street station located in Rogers Park. This caused considerable inconvenience for commuters during the busy Thursday evening rush.

The derailment threw a wrench into the evening plans of many, leaving the city’s transit system in disarray. Commuters like Grace McGarel, who was aboard a Purple Line train at the time, described the unsettling experience. “I was taking the Purple Line home from work when our train started jolting, and then we came to a stop,” she recounted. “The conductor informed us that another train in front had derailed.”

“I was taking the purple line home from work and our train started jolting and then we came to a stop,” impacted commuter Grace McGarel said. “The conductor came on and said another train in front of us had been derailed.”

CTA says the train derailed as it approached the Howard Station in Rogers Park.

“Someone told us it was completely shut down for mechanical issues so we had to take the shuttle bus to get all the way here,” impacted commuter Crystal Brandy said. “It’s been a very long day and we just want to get home.”

Video showed passengers being evacuated from two train cars that appeared to have shifted off the tracks.

“The two cars were split one was over here and then the part where it connected was over here not on the track,” McGarel said.

McGarel says she and other passengers aboard a Purple Line train behind the derailed train waited for an hour and a half before the train started moving again.

Shuttle buses were provided to assist affected passengers on the Red Line between Howard and Thorndale, and on the Yellow and Purple lines from Howard to Skokie and Linden.

“We’re having a tough time trying to find our way home,” impacted commuter Julie Shroka said.

Chicago fire officials said there were no injuries.

It’s still unclear what caused the train to come off the tracks.

Jack Nicholson Celebrates Milestone 89th Birthday in Rare Photo Shared by Daughter Lorraine

0

Here’s Jack making headlines once again!

This week, the typically elusive Jack Nicholson made a rare public appearance, thanks to his daughter Lorraine, who shared a heartfelt birthday photo as the legendary actor celebrated his 89th birthday.

In the wake of Lorraine’s recent fiery critique of Hollywood’s “status-obsessed” culture, she offered fans a rare peek into her father’s private life by posting a snapshot on his birthday, which was on Wednesday.

Accompanied by the simple caption “89!!,” Lorraine posted the image on her Instagram Story, showcasing the three-time Oscar winner in a relaxed setting.

The photo captures the iconic star of “The Shining” enjoying a laid-back moment in a warm, art-adorned living room. Nicholson is seen smiling and clapping amidst the festivities, dressed casually in a dark polo shirt paired with rust-colored trousers.

A second throwback image in the post captures a much younger Nicholson in a bright red “Drink Coca-Cola” T-shirt, cigar in hand and flashing his signature grin.

The sighting is notable given the actor’s near-total retreat from public life in recent years.

Once a constant presence in Hollywood and courtside at Lakers games, the “The Departed” actor has largely stayed out of the spotlight.

Lorraine, 36, is one of Nicholson’s six children and remains especially close with him, along with her brother Ray, 33.

Both followed their father into acting, though Lorraine has since shifted toward directing and producing.

She last shared a photo of her father in November, calling the snap “A November to remember,” alongside a family shot that included Ray as well as photos with her boyfriend, director Jason Reitman.

Nicholson also made a surprise appearance in February last year at the “Saturday Night Live” 50th anniversary special, where he introduced Adam Sandler.

His last film role dates back to 2010’s “How Do You Know,” directed by James L. Brooks, who previously helmed Nicholson’s Oscar-winning performances in “Terms of Endearment” and “As Good as It Gets.”

Meanwhile, Lorraine generated buzz of her own this week with a candid essay in W Magazine, where she took aim at Hollywood culture.

“L.A. has established itself as the status-anxiety capital of the world,” she wrote, adding that clout-chasing follows industry players “to the grave.”

She continued, “It means that when you’re at a party, women won’t peer over your shoulder to see who else has arrived, and men won’t interrupt you in the middle of a story to get a drink.”

She also took a swipe at influencer culture, writing that “public” workouts are now the “domain of influencers” who “will exchange Instagram posts for free personal training and an unlimited supply of leggings.”

“In Los Angeles, a social media following means reservations at Alba and free trips to Costa Rica — but it will not get you into Guy Oseary’s Oscars party,” she added.

Georgia’s Wildfire Crisis Escalates Amidst Intensifying Drought Conditions

GEORGIA (WJBF) – As the drought situation in Georgia worsens, thousands of residents are grappling with the effects of persistent wildfires that have ravaged parts of South Georgia, prompting evacuations to nearby shelters.

The Georgia Forestry Commission reported that 54 homes have sustained damage due to the fires, although, fortunately, there have been no injuries to date.

In response to the escalating crisis, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has declared a 30-day state of emergency, enacting a burn ban across 91 counties. This ban strictly prohibits all forms of outdoor burning, including yard waste and agricultural fires.

Governor Kemp announced that the state is ramping up its efforts by deploying additional resources, notably National Guard aviation teams, to aid in combating the blazes.

“To ensure we can offer all necessary state resources in this endeavor, we are now incorporating National Guard support, especially focusing on aviation,” Kemp stated. “We are also collaborating closely with the Environmental Protection Division as they prepare to issue a statewide level 1 drought notification in the upcoming days.”

Officials say wildfires have now burned more than 20,000 acres and are only 10% contained, with shifting winds continuing to challenge firefighting efforts.

Multiple agencies are now deployed across the region, including the Georgia Forestry Commission, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and Georgia State Patrol.

Georgia Forestry Commission spokesperson Seth Hawkins said crews are working aggressively on the ground and in the air.

“We’re kind of throwing the kitchen sink at this thing,” Hawkins said. “We’ve got helicopters and air tankers working on these fires and adjacent fires. On the ground, crews are cutting fire breaks with bulldozers and working structure protection.”

The Georgia Forestry Commission said wildfire activity has now surpassed the five-year average, with smoke impacting air quality in several parts of the state.

Officials warn that conditions remain volatile due to a combination of drought, wind, and dry vegetation.

“Afternoon winds are expected to shift out of the southeast, which complicates firefighting efforts,” Hawkins said. “Combine low humidity, high winds, drought conditions, and hurricane debris still drying in the woods, and that’s driving this extreme fire behavior.”

As part of the emergency order, price gouging is also prohibited statewide.

The Georgia Forestry Commission is urging residents with respiratory conditions to wear N-95 masks if going outdoors.

Officials also warn that even if smoke is not visible or odorless, harmful fine particles may still be present in the air.

Long Island PTA Mom and NYPD Officer Charged with Embezzling $50K from Elementary School Funds

On Wednesday, authorities revealed the arrest of a PTA member from Long Island, accused of embezzling over $50,000 from an elementary school while working as an officer with the New York Police Department.

Jodi Scarlatos, 43, hailing from Centereach, held the role of treasurer for the Jericho Elementary School PTA. During her tenure, she allegedly diverted funds from the association to cover personal expenses and leisurely activities, a scheme purported to have begun at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

The allegations against Scarlatos, detailed in a lawsuit filed in Suffolk County Supreme Court, emerged amid her financial difficulties. In July 2022, she reportedly began missing mortgage payments, leading her bank to start foreclosure proceedings. The lawsuit indicates she owes more than $375,000 in total debt.

The alleged misappropriation came to light when control of the PTA’s bank account transitioned to a new board in 2023, uncovering the financial irregularities.

Jodi Scarlatos was taken into custody on Monday, facing allegations of embezzling $50,000 from the school’s PTA over a three-year period.

“Parent Teacher Associations serve a vital function in school communities throughout Suffolk County,” District Attorney Raymond Tierney said.

“The allegations in this case represent a betrayal of the trust the residents of Centereach placed in this defendant, and my office will continue to hold accountable everyone who unlawfully enriches themselves at the public’s expense.”

Her lawyer told Fox News Digital Thursday the PTA mom had previously worked as a transit officer with the New York Police Department. She reportedly retired from the force in January 2025.

According to prosecutors, Scarlatos served as treasurer of the Jericho Elementary School PTA from July 2020 through September 2023.

During that time, she was issued a debit card intended solely for PTA-related expenses but allegedly used the funds for restaurants, hotels, rental cars, Best Buy, Ticketmaster, Amazon and Verizon Wireless.

Scarlatos also allegedly moved cash from the PTA coffers into her personal bank account, prosecutors alleged.

In addition, officials said she continued making transactions during summer recesses and holiday breaks, periods when school was not in session.

In July 2022, Scarlatos allegedly stopped paying her mortgage, according to a foreclosure lawsuit filed by U.S. Bank Trust National Association in March 2024. Court records point to mounting financial pressure and significant debt leading up to the action.

The following year, just months before she stepped away from her school role, the embattled PTA official had initiated a small fundraiser for a hospital supported by the elementary school, according to her Facebook page.

“Help me raise funds for St. Jude!,” she wrote in a Jan. 17, 2023, Facebook post. “I’ve joined the fight to help end childhood cancer by participating in the St. Jude Math-A-Thon.

“I’m solving math problems and raising funds to help St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. You can help me reach my fundraising goal for the kids of St. Jude, who are battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases.”

Scarlatos’ transactions allegedly continued until the next board members for the 2023–2024 school year took over and discovered the troubling findings, according to investigators.

Scarlatos surrendered to the district attorney’s office Monday and was arraigned before District Court Judge Jonathan Bloom on a charge of grand larceny in the second degree, a Class C felony.

If convicted, she faces five to 15 years in prison.

The Long Island mom was released without bail and is due back in court May 5, 2026.

Veteran Trainer Shares Key to Elite Core Strength for Those Over 60

With over 35 years of experience in personal training, I now dedicate my time to educating future trainers at TRAINFITNESS. During my career, I’ve evaluated countless older adults, and one consistent indicator of how well someone is aging physically is the bridge hold. Many assume core strength is about having defined abs or performing endless crunches. However, for those over 60, it’s more about something fundamental: the ability to carry out daily activities without pain, injury, or loss of independence. Here’s how to assess your core strength, understand what your hold time signifies, and learn how to enhance it swiftly.

Why Core Strength Changes After 60

Core strength after 60 isn’t about aesthetics or athletic performance. It’s about function, stability, and maintaining independence. Your core is the foundation for almost every movement you make: getting out of a chair, bending to pick something up, walking without shuffling, even just standing upright without back pain.

After 60, we start losing muscle mass through a process called sarcopenia. This affects the core muscles just as much as it affects your legs or arms, but the consequences are different. Weak legs might make stairs harder. Weak core muscles affect your entire body’s ability to function properly.

Your core muscles, the deep stabilizers around your spine, pelvis, and hips, are what keep you upright and stable. When these weaken, your body starts compensating. You’ll lean forward when you walk. You’ll hold onto furniture when you stand up. Your lower back will start taking on work it wasn’t designed to do, which leads to chronic pain.

In younger adults, core training is often about creating movement: sit-ups, crunches, rotational exercises. After 60, core strength is about resisting movement. It’s about holding your spine stable while your arms and legs are moving. It’s about maintaining good posture when you’re tired. It’s about not collapsing forward when you bend down.

Why the Bridge Hold Works as a Test

The bridge hold tests exactly what matters most for functional strength after 60. It’s not about how much force you can generate in one explosive movement. It’s about whether your muscles can sustain a stable position under load.

When you hold a bridge, you’re activating your glutes, hamstrings, lower back, and deep core stabilizers all at once. This mirrors real-life movements far better than isolated exercises. Standing up from a chair requires the same muscle activation pattern. Walking up an incline uses the same muscles.

Hold time matters because endurance in these muscles predicts your ability to maintain good movement patterns throughout the day. You might be able to stand up from a chair once with good form, but can you do it ten times without your knees caving inward or your back rounding? That’s what the bridge hold reveals.

Research consistently shows that isometric strength (holding positions) correlates better with functional ability in older adults than dynamic strength. The bridge hold gives you a clear, measurable number. You either hold the position for 60 seconds or you don’t. There’s no room for compensating with momentum or using poor form to hit a target.

It’s also safe. Unlike loaded exercises or tests that require coordination and balance, the bridge hold is performed on the ground with minimal risk. You’re not going to fall if your muscles give out. You simply lower back down.

How To Perform the Bridge Hold Test

The bridge hold measures your posterior chain endurance, specifically how long your glutes, hamstrings, lower back, and core stabilizers can maintain a neutral hip position against gravity.

How to Do It:

  • Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart. Your heels should be about 6-8 inches from your bottom.
  • Place your arms by your sides, palms down on the floor for stability.
  • Engage your core by gently pulling your belly button toward your spine. Don’t suck in hard, just create gentle tension.
  • Press through your heels and lift your hips off the ground until your body forms a straight line from your knees to your shoulders. Your shins should be roughly vertical.
  • Squeeze your glutes at the top and keep your core engaged. Your lower back should not be arched.
  • Hold this position and start timing. Breathe normally throughout. Don’t hold your breath.
  • The test ends when you can no longer maintain proper form, either your hips drop, your lower back arches excessively, or you need to rest.

Target Hold Times After 60

  • Strong core strength (60 seconds or more): This indicates excellent posterior chain endurance and suggests you have the strength needed for daily activities without fatigue.
  • Average core strength (30-60 seconds): You have functional strength but there’s room for improvement. You might notice fatigue during longer periods of activity.
  • Weak core strength (less than 30 seconds): This suggests your core muscles are significantly deconditioned and you’re at higher risk for back pain, poor posture, and compensation patterns during movement.

Avoid These Mistakes

  • Don’t arch your lower back to make the hold easier. When you arch, you’re shifting the load from your glutes and core onto your lower back muscles and spine. If you feel your lower back working harder than your glutes, you’re doing it wrong.
  • Don’t push your hips too high. The goal isn’t to get your hips as high as possible. It’s to create a straight line from knees to shoulders.
  • Don’t hold your breath. Real functional strength requires you to maintain stability while breathing normally. If you can only hold the position while holding your breath, your true endurance is much lower than your timed result suggests.
  • Keep your knees aligned over your feet throughout the hold. Don’t let them fall inward or push outward, both indicate poor hip stabilizer control.
  • Keep your arms relaxed on the floor. Don’t press down hard to assist the hold. If you’re pressing down, you’re compensating for weak glutes and core.

What Your Hold Time Reveals About Your Health

Your bridge hold time is a window into your overall functional capacity. It’s not just about one muscle group; it reveals how well your entire posterior chain is working together.

If you can hold a proper bridge for 60 seconds or more, your glutes are strong and functional (which protects your knees and lower back), your core stabilizers are maintaining good posture without conscious effort, and your hamstrings have the endurance to support your walking pattern and help you get up from chairs easily.

A hold time between 30 and 60 seconds suggests you’re functional but not optimal. You can probably manage daily activities, but you might notice fatigue during longer periods of standing or walking. You might need to use your hands when getting up from low seats. You probably experience some lower back stiffness after periods of inactivity.

If you’re struggling to hold for 30 seconds, it’s a red flag. You’re likely relying on your lower back to do work your glutes should be handling. Your posture is probably compromised. You might already be experiencing chronic back pain, hip tightness, or knee issues. Most importantly, you’re at higher risk for falls because your body doesn’t have the stability to recover from small balance disruptions.

How To Improve Your Hold Time

If you can’t hit 60 seconds, the solution is simple but requires consistency. The good news is that these muscles respond quickly to the right stimulus, especially if they’ve been undertrained.

Start by performing bridge holds for whatever time you can currently manage. If that’s 15 seconds, that’s your starting point. Do three sets of your max hold with 30-60 seconds rest between sets, three to four times per week.

Every week, try to add 5 seconds to your hold time. If you’re starting from 15 seconds, you should realistically hit 30 seconds within three weeks. Getting from 30 to 60 seconds will take another four to six weeks of consistent training.

Don’t limit yourself to bridge holds only. Bodyweight squats, step-ups, and single-leg glute bridges work the same muscles and provide variety. Also incorporate core stability exercises like dead bugs, bird dogs, and planks to teach the core to stabilize the spine while your arms and legs are moving.

You also need to stretch out tight hip flexors, which tend to pull the pelvis out of neutral position. If you sit for long periods, try the kneeling hip flexor stretch: hold 30-60 seconds on each side, 3-4 times a week.

Recommended Sets and Reps: 3 sets at your current max hold time, 3-4 times per week, adding 5 seconds weekly.

When To Expect Results

You should see improvements within 2-3 weeks. You’ll notice your glutes firing more during the hold, your lower back will be less painful, and you’ll hold the position longer and more steadily. After 6-8 weeks of consistent practice, you should see a big jump, often a 2x to 3x improvement.

After 3 months, other areas of your life may start to change. Getting up and down from chairs won’t hurt as much and won’t require your arms. Standing for long periods won’t bother your back. You won’t slump over as you walk because your posture is much better. These are the real benefits, and the bridge hold is just a way to measure how much better these functions are working for you.
