Unpacking the Peter Mandelson Controversy and Its Implications for Keir Starmer’s Leadership

0

United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer finds himself in turbulent waters following revelations that a man he appointed as the country’s ambassador to the United States had maintained close ties with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The controversy erupted last September, casting a shadow over Starmer’s leadership.

Initially, the appointment of Peter Mandelson, a seasoned figure within the UK Labour Party known for his charismatic presence and extensive trade experience, was heralded as a strategic political move. However, this decision is now proving to be a double-edged sword, with potential ramifications severe enough to jeopardize Starmer’s political future.

In the face of mounting pressure, Starmer has persistently deflected calls for his resignation. On Monday, he addressed the UK Parliament, standing firm against adversaries who argue that this debacle raises significant doubts about his judgment and integrity.

For those seeking to understand the unfolding drama, it all traces back to the release of Epstein’s infamous ‘birthday book’ in September, a development that ignited the current scandal. As the situation continues to unfold, it remains a contentious issue at the heart of British politics.

What do we know about Mandelson’s links to Epstein?

The scandal erupted in September, when Epstein’s so-called ‘birthday book’ was released.

It included a letter purportedly from Mandelson to the late paedophile describing him as “my best pal”.

Mandelson said he “deeply regretted” ever meeting Epstein and said that he carried on the association “far longer” than he should have.

The following day, it was revealed that Mandelson had encouraged Epstein to fight for early release in 2008 when he was due to be sentenced to 18 months in jail for soliciting a minor, prompting Starmer to fire him from his diplomatic post.

But that’s not the end of the story. In February 2026, more documents came to light, including some that appeared to show that Mandelson had received money from Epstein and leaked a confidential government briefing to him.

Mandelson said he had no recollection of any payments but left the Labour Party to “prevent further embarrassment”, while Starmer said Mandelson should be removed from Britain’s upper house of parliament.

The following day, police launched an investigation into alleged misconduct in public office to examine whether Mandelson had leaked market-sensitive information to Epstein.

Mandelson was later arrested but was released the following day pending further investigation, and Starmer’s government soon after agreed to publish “all papers” related to Mandelson’s appointment.

This is where the political scandal really kicks off.

Why do some people think Starmer should quit?

While Starmer had been fielding calls to resign over revelations linking his US ambassador to Epstein since the ties were first made public, things really started to heat up for the UK prime minister in March 2026, when government documents suggested Starmer had been warned about Mandelson’s relationship with Epstein before Starmer appointed him.

A document released by the UK government and labelled as “Advice to the prime minister, checks conducted on 4 December, 2024”, said: “After Epstein was first convicted of procuring an underage girl in 2008, their relationship continued across 2009-2011, beginning when Lord Mandelson was business minister and continuing after the end of the Labour government.”

The document also said Mandelson had “reportedly stayed in Epstein’s house while he was in jail in June 2009”.

Other documents released by the government indicate that a senior UK national security advisor found the vetting process “weirdly rushed” and that Starmer’s chief of staff had been told there were concerns about Mandelson’s “reputation”.

These documents prompted Starmer’s political opponents to suggest that the prime minister had known about Mandelson’s ties to Epstein before his appointment.

Starmer defended himself at the time, saying that Mandelson had lied to him about the extent of their relationship.

Why is this story back in the news now?

Last week, the Guardian reported that Mandelson failed security vetting for the role but foreign ministry officials proceeded with the appointment anyway.

Citing multiple unnamed sources, reporters found officials at the foreign office had intervened to override the recommendation and let Mandelson take up the post.

This directly contradicts what Starmer said three times in September — when the ties between Manelson and Epstein first surfaced — that “full due process” had been followed before the high-profile appointment.

On Monday in London, Starmer fronted the UK parliament to put the blame firmly on foreign ministry officials, saying they had withheld information about Mandelson that would have halted his employment.

Starmer again expressed anger over not being told by foreign ministry officials that in January 2025, they had disregarded advice and decided to grant Mandelson what is known as developed vetting clearance, a status that allows individuals access to information regarded as top secret.

“It beggars belief that throughout the whole timeline of events, officials in the foreign office saw fit to withhold this information from the most senior ministers in our system in government,” Starmer told parliament.

“That is not how the vast majority of people in this country expect politics, government or accountability to work.”

What does all this mean for Starmer’s political future?

Opponents have accused Starmer of lying and incompetence, and say his position is no longer tenable.

Three weeks before local elections in which Starmer’s once-popular Labour Party is expected to suffer heavy losses, the resurgence of the scandal has triggered new questions about his grip on government, although no senior Labour politicians have urged him to go.

Kemi Badenoch, leader of the main opposition in the UK, the Conservative Party, accused Starmer of failing to face up to the consequences of his actions.

“It is how you face up to those mistakes that shows the character of a leader,” she told parliament.

“Instead of taking responsibility for the decisions he made, the prime minister has thrown his staff, and his officials, under the bus.”

Chemical Plant Explosion Triggers Hazmat Alert and Shelter-In-Place: Two Injured in Devastating Blast

0

Two workers sustained injuries Tuesday morning following an explosion at a chemical plant in Illinois, which sparked a significant hazardous materials response and temporarily required nearby employees to shelter in place.

The explosion took place just before 8 a.m. at the Coogee Chemical facility located in Ottawa, a small city situated southwest of Chicago, according to officials.

Reports indicate the incident involved a magnesium fire, known for its intense heat and unpredictability, which cannot be doused with water. The blaze allegedly originated from a malfunction in oxygen sensor equipment, leading to increased oxygen levels.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the explosion may have resulted from equipment failure during the process of transferring magnesium into a storage container,” stated the Ottawa Fire Department (OFD).

An aerial image of the Coogee Chemical plant in Ottawa, Illinois, where the explosion occurred on April 21, 2026, was provided by Fox 32 Chicago.

Crews also had to use specialized on-site industrial dry chemical agents to safely suppress the magnesium fire, as water can further intensify the reaction.

The fire department said the blaze was brought under control at approximately 8:14 a.m., roughly 15 minutes after it broke out.

As a safety precaution, the Ottawa Police Department and the Illinois Department of Transportation temporarily closed a nearby road, and individuals in the area were advised to shelter in place.

All responding personnel underwent standard decontamination procedures on scene, while hazmat teams assisted with patient decontamination at the hospital.

The fire reportedly caused minimal damage to the facility, and plant operations have been suspended pending an investigation.

The Illinois Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Illinois OSHA) is assisting with the investigation.

Sydney Grandfather’s Tragic Case: Fourth Suspect Arrested in Kidnapping and Murder Investigation

0
A fourth man has been charged over the alleged kidnapping and murder of Sydney grandfather Chris Baghsarian.

An unfortunate incident occurred when 85-year-old Baghsarian was forcibly taken from his North Ryde residence in the early hours of February 13.

Authorities suspect that the elderly man fell victim to an abduction due to mistaken identity, as he wasn’t the intended target.

Tragically, his body was discovered around 8 a.m. on February 24, located near a golf course in Pitt Town.

Yesterday morning, at approximately 9:25 a.m., a 19-year-old suspect was taken into custody at Mount Druitt Police Station.

The young man now faces charges of murder and kidnapping with the intent to demand ransom.

He was refused bail and will appear in court today.

To date, three people have been charged over his death and remain before the courts.

Daniel Stevens, 24, and Gerard Andrews, 29, are alleged to have “participated in a joint criminal enterprise with other persons” that led to Baghsarian’s death.

Delkin Donnelly, 23, was arrested at his Seven Hills home in late March, and charged with multiple offences, including murder, taking and detaining in company with intent to ransom, occasioning actual bodily harm, and possessing an unauthorised firearm.

He was also hit with other weapons and drug charges after a shotgun, handgun and drugs were seized from his home, and was refused bail to appear in court tomorrow.

Detective Acting Superintendent Andrew Marks said earlier this year police believe up to nine people were involved in the alleged kidnapping and murder, and that they may have been part of different groups.

He said the house at Dural, where Baghsarian was allegedly kept, would have acted as a meeting point for many of the alleged offenders.

“There was a group of people who played significant roles in the entire offence,” he said.

“There was some crossover from the [North Ryde] house to Dural, and the disposal of remains.

“Those persons were all involved in certain aspects [and] the central point would have been Dural.”

Buzzing Chaos: Woman’s Bee Swarm Attack on Police Sparks Allergy Alert!

0

A woman who set loose a swarm of bees on a group of officers has been sentenced by the court.

Rebecca Woods was convicted on four counts of simple assault and battery, as well as two counts of reckless assault. This was confirmed in an April 17 press release from the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office in Massachusetts. Read more here.

The court sentenced Woods to six months in jail, but she received credit for 148 days already served. Her defense attorney, Mary Saldarelli, stated that Woods has been incarcerated since November and maintains her plea of not guilty.

The incident occurred in October 2022, when deputies were executing a court-ordered eviction at a residence in Longmeadow. Woods arrived at the scene in a beekeeper’s outfit, pulling a flatbed trailer laden with beehives. According to the press release, she then proceeded to break open the hive boxes, releasing the “highly agitated” bees.

Upon being informed that some of the deputies had allergies to bees, Woods reportedly replied, “Oh, you’re allergic? Good.”

Multiple officers were stung and one was hospitalized, per the release. Plus, thousands of bees died during the incident.

According to Saldarelli, Woods, along with other individuals, were peacefully protesting the eviction of a 79-year-old man.

“She appeared with bees—she’s a beekeeper—in an effort to delay the eviction process,” Saldarelli told Oxygen, “not to attack anyone.”

Then, in August 2025, ahead of her trial, Woods fled to Tennessee and was taken into custody at a motel.

However, Woods delayed the legal process by three months as she refused to waive extradition back to Massachusetts, the release noted, until a Governor’s Warrant was issued.

Woods maintains her innocence, said Saldarelli, who has filed a notice of appeal, adding that Woods will continue “fighting the accusations of guilt.”

Dr. Oz Initiates Comprehensive Audit of Medicaid Oversight Across All 50 States

0

NEW YORK (AP) — In a significant move to intensify anti-fraud measures nationwide, the Trump administration is mandating that all 50 states outline their strategies to reassess certain Medicaid providers. This initiative marks a shift from the previous focus on individual states, Dr. Mehmet Oz announced on Tuesday.

During a Politico healthcare summit, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator revealed plans to urge states to take responsibility for addressing healthcare fraud. States will be required to submit their plans within 30 days. “This is a measure to demonstrate their commitment to addressing this issue,” Oz stated. “Failure to comply may lead us to intensify audits across different states,” he added, without providing further details.

The announcement forms part of a broader federal effort to combat waste, fraud, and abuse within the Medicaid and Medicare programs. Previously, the focus had primarily been on Democratic-led states, and there have been instances of mistaken accusations.

Beyond New York, CMS has initiated investigations in at least four other states concerning potential healthcare fraud. In one notable action, Medicaid payments totaling $243 million were suspended in Minnesota due to fraud concerns. Additionally, the CMS has imposed a six-month halt on new Medicare enrollments for suppliers of durable medical equipment, prosthetics, and orthotics nationwide to curb possible fraudulent activities. Earlier this month, federal authorities also conducted several arrests in connection to alleged hospice fraud schemes in the Los Angeles area.

In addition to New York, CMS has approached at least four other states with investigations into potential health care fraud and halted some $243 million in Medicaid payments to one of them, Minnesota, over fraud concerns. It also is blocking for six months any new Medicare enrollments for suppliers of durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics or certain other supplies around the country to address the potential for fraud. In addition, federal officials made several arrests earlier this month related to alleged hospice fraud schemes in the Los Angeles area.

Last month, Trump signed an executive order to create an anti-fraud task force across federal benefit programs led by Vice President JD Vance. It’s unclear whether Tuesday’s move is part of that effort, though Oz has been working closely with Vance on other investigations related to the task force. Asked for details on the new audit, a spokesperson for CMS said the agency was researching the AP’s inquiry.

Oz justified Tuesday’s move by saying federal health programs in some states have enrolled large numbers of providers who aren’t providing real care to patients, but instead profiting from fraud. He said the requests for states to verify the legitimacy of Medicaid providers will be focused on “high risk areas,” but didn’t explain what those entail.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who the Trump administration and congressional Republicans have blamed for allowing fraud to happen in federally funded programs including Medicaid, welcomed Oz’s announcement.

Walz told reporters Tuesday that Minnesota hadn’t received the request yet, but the Democratic governor said his state is already moving ahead with the revalidation process and has made significant improvements. Minnesota sued CMS in February in an attempt to stop it from withholding Medicaid funds. That case is still ongoing, and the money has not yet been released, but CMS wrote to state officials last month that the agency had approved the state’s corrective action plan.

Asked during the Politico interview whether there was a risk that Trump administration initiatives could eliminate, slow down or harm essential health care programs, Oz said he expects the opposite. He said Medicaid and Medicare are the “crown jewels” of our nation.

“I believe this audit and others like it will save the programs we care most about,” he said.

Revitalize Your Strength: 5 Bed Exercises That Outperform Gym Machines for Those Over 55

0

A certified strength coach has devised a five-move routine that you can do in bed, designed to make everyday activities feel easier and more manageable.

As you reach your mid-50s, strength manifests differently than in your younger years. You might notice that getting out of bed is less of a struggle, carrying groceries feels more controlled, and you navigate your day with newfound confidence—often without conscious effort. Building strength at this stage doesn’t require complex workouts or gym equipment. The key lies in establishing a strong foundation that teaches your body to move with control and intention, paving the way for enduring strength.

In my experience coaching individuals who wish to regain their strength without overly complex training, I’ve found that simplicity is crucial. Focusing on movements that allow you to sense and engage with your body is most effective. Performing exercises in a supported position, like your bed, allows you to slow down, refine your form, and activate the essential muscles. This approach rekindles strength in a sustainable way.

These exercises, performed right in your bed, offer a straightforward method to rebuild full-body strength without overcomplication. They engage your core, upper body, and lower body, enhancing real-world movements. This routine is simple, effective, and, as you establish a rhythm, you’ll notice improvements in your body’s daily performance. Let’s explore the five moves that integrate these benefits seamlessly.

These bed-based exercises give you a direct path to rebuilding full-body strength without overthinking the process. You’ll train your core, upper body, and lower body in a way that carries over into real movement. It’s simple, it’s effective, and once you get into a rhythm with it, you’ll start to notice the difference in how your body responds day to day. Let’s get into the five moves that pull it all together.

Glute Bridges

Glute bridges are one of the best ways to bring strength back to your hips and lower body. Your glutes play a major role in standing, walking, and supporting your spine. This movement helps you reconnect with those muscles and build strength without stressing your joints. It also encourages better posture by strengthening the backside of your body. When your hips feel strong, everything else tends to follow.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, hamstrings, lower back, and core

How to Do It:

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the bed.
  2. Place your arms by your sides.
  3. Press through your heels and lift your hips upward.
  4. Squeeze your glutes at the top position.
  5. Lower your hips back down with control.
  6. Repeat for your reps.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 10 to 15 reps. Rest for 45 seconds between each set

Best Variations: Single-leg bridges, elevated bridges, pause bridges

Form Tip: Drive through your heels and keep your ribs down.

Push-Ups (Incline on Bed)

Incline push-ups give you a way to build upper-body strength without getting down on the floor. The elevated surface slightly reduces the load, which helps you move through full, controlled reps. This builds strength in your chest, shoulders, and arms while also engaging your core. It’s a great way to rebuild pressing strength in a manageable position.

Muscles Trained: Chest, shoulders, triceps, and core

How to Do It:

  1. Place your hands on the edge of the bed.
  2. Step your feet back into a straight body position.
  3. Engage your core and keep your body in a straight line.
  4. Lower your chest toward the bed.
  5. Press back up to the starting position.
  6. Repeat for your reps.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 12 reps. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between each set

Best Variations: Knee push-ups, tempo push-ups, close-grip push-ups

Form Tip: Keep your body in one straight line from head to heels.

Alternating Dead Bugs

Dead bugs help restore coordination between your upper and lower body. This is key for full-body strength because your core acts as the bridge between everything. The movement teaches you how to stabilize while your limbs move, which carries over into daily activities. It also helps build core control without straining your back.

Muscles Trained: Core, hip flexors, shoulders, and stabilizers

How to Do It:

  1. Lie on your back with your arms extended upward and knees bent.
  2. Engage your core and press your lower back into the bed.
  3. Extend your right arm and left leg.
  4. Return to the starting position.
  5. Alternate sides.
  6. Repeat for your reps.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 12 reps per side. Rest for 30 to 45 seconds between each set

Best Variations: Bent-knee dead bugs, slow tempo reps, alternating holds

Form Tip: Keep your lower back pressed into the bed.

Straight Leg Raises

Straight-leg raises help build strength in your hips and core while improving leg control. This movement supports better coordination and helps reinforce stability through your midsection. It’s simple, but when done with control, it builds strength that carries over into walking and daily movement.

Muscles Trained: Hip flexors, lower abdominals, quadriceps, and core

How to Do It:

  1. Lie flat on your back with one leg bent and one leg straight.
  2. Engage your core and keep your lower back stable.
  3. Lift the straight leg upward.
  4. Pause briefly at the top.
  5. Lower it back down slowly.
  6. Alternate sides and repeat.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps per side. Rest for 30 to 45 seconds between each set

Best Variations: Double leg raises, slow tempo raises, alternating holds

Form Tip: Move slowly and avoid arching your back.

Seated Russian Twists (On Bed Edge)

Russian twists help bring rotational strength back into your routine. Your body uses rotation in many everyday movements, and training it helps improve coordination and balance. This also strengthens your obliques, which support your core and help with overall stability.

Muscles Trained: Obliques, rectus abdominis, transverse abdominis, and hip stabilizers

How to Do It:

  1. Sit on the edge of the bed with your knees bent.
  2. Lean back slightly and engage your core.
  3. Rotate your torso to one side.
  4. Return to the center.
  5. Rotate to the other side.
  6. Continue alternating for your reps.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 12 to 16 reps per side. Rest for 30 to 45 seconds between each set

Best Variations: Feet-down twists, weighted twists, slow tempo twists

Form Tip: Keep your chest tall and rotate through your torso.

The Best Tips for Building Full-Body Strength After 55

Shutterstock

Building full-body strength doesn’t have to feel complicated. When you focus on simple movements and perform them with intention, your body starts to respond quickly. Strength builds through consistency and control, not complexity. I’ve seen people make steady progress just by sticking with a routine like this and focusing on how they move. When your body feels stronger in everyday situations, that’s when you know it’s working.

  • Stay consistent: A short routine done regularly will build lasting strength.
  • Focus on control: Move with intention to get the most out of each rep.
  • Engage your core: Keep your core active to support full-body movement.
  • Build gradually: Increase reps or slow the tempo as you get stronger.
  • Pay attention to how you feel: Strength shows up first in your daily movement.

Kash Patel Vows Arrests in 2020 Election Conspiracy Amidst Explosive Allegations of Paranoia and Excessive Drinking

0

Kash Patel has made a bold declaration, asserting that arrests are on the horizon in connection with what he describes as a vast conspiracy related to the 2020 presidential election.

These claims came in the wake of a political and legal uproar sparked by a contentious report, which accused Patel of exhibiting erratic behavior and excessive drinking. This controversy unfolded shortly after FBI Director Christopher Wray offered assurances of forthcoming action.

Appearing on Fox News’ Sunday Morning, Patel was adamant that those responsible for what he alleges was the ‘rigging’ of the election in favor of former President Joe Biden would face consequences. He expressed a firm commitment to holding individuals accountable.

“I am never going to let this go,” Patel asserted when questioned about the 2020 election. “They tried to rig the entire system. That’s something I’m not going to allow,” he continued, emphasizing his dedication to pursuing justice.

Concluding his remarks, Patel promised, “We are going to be making arrests. It’s coming. I promise you it’s coming soon.”

The comments marked his most forceful public declaration yet, going beyond previous hints that the FBI had gathered evidence tied to President Donald Trump’s long-standing claims that the election was stolen.

Such claims that have been repeatedly rejected by courts, election officials, and even Trump’s own Justice Department during his first term.

Patel stopped short of providing any specifics about the alleged evidence, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

But he insisted the material exists and suggested it is being folded into a broader conspiracy case being pursued alongside Department of Justice prosecutors under Attorney General Todd Blanche.

FBI Director Kash Patel said on Fox News that arrests related to a 2020 election conspiracy are imminent, stating: “It’s coming. I promise you it’s coming soon.”

‘We have the information that backs President Trump’s claim,’ Patel said earlier in the same interview. ‘I can’t get ahead of the DOJ and the president, but President Trump… speaks truthfully when he says that.’

‘Stay tuned this week. You might see a thing or two,’ he teased.

The extraordinary claims come at a moment of mounting pressure on Patel personally, following a bombshell report published by The Atlantic that painted a deeply troubling portrait of the FBI director’s conduct behind closed doors.

According to the report – based on interviews with more than two dozen current and former FBI officials – Patel has been ‘erratic, suspicious of others, and prone to jumping to conclusions before he has necessary evidence,’ with some sources describing his behavior as a potential ‘national-security vulnerability.’

The article alleged that meetings had to be rescheduled because Patel had been drinking the night before, and that concerns had been raised internally about whether alcohol may have contributed to missteps in high-profile investigations, including the aftermath of the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Hours after the killing of the conservative activist in September 2025, Patel took to X to announce that the ‘subject’ in Kirk’s murder was finally ‘in custody.’

But he walked back his earlier statement shortly after, announcing that the suspect ‘has been released after an interrogation by law enforcement.’

It also claimed that staffers at one point struggled to reach Patel due to his alleged drinking, and that concerns within the bureau have intensified as his behavior grew more unpredictable.

The Atlantic magazine published a report Friday alleging that officials are alarmed over FBI Director Kash Patel’s alleged excessive drinking

On one occasion, staffers allegedly requested ‘breaching equipment’ used in SWAT raids and hostage situations to try and break down his door, according to The Atlantic.

Patel is known to enjoy alcohol and has frequently appeared visibly intoxicated at clubs in Washington and in his home city of Las Vegas.

He reportedly also enraged the president after he was filmed chugging beer with the US men’s hockey team following their Olympic victory.

Fearing he was about to be fired by the Trump administration, he allegedly called aides and allies in panic – a reaction that, according to the report, quickly reached the White House.

Officials told the outlet they are increasingly alarmed about whether the FBI could respond to a national crisis like a terror attack with Patel at the helm.

‘That’s what keeps me up at night,’ an unnamed official told the publication.

Patel has categorically denied the allegations and is now preparing to take legal action.

‘You want to attack my character? Come at me. Bring it on. I’ll see you in court,’ he said on Sunday, confirming that a defamation lawsuit against The Atlantic is expected to be filed.

Patel dismissed the report as part of a broader media campaign against him, calling it the work of a ‘fake news mafia’ and arguing that such attacks are evidence the FBI is effectively doing its job.

‘If the fake news mafia isn’t hitting you personally with baseless information in Washington, D.C., then you’re not doing your job,’ Patel said.

In response to The Atlantic’s recent bombshell claims, Patel’s advisor Erica Knight released a pointed statement on X, calling it a story ‘that every real DC reporter chased, couldn’t verify, and passed on.’

‘Here’s reality. Since being sworn in, Director Patel has taken a grand total of 17 days off – half as much time off as Comey and Wray – and he spends twice as much time in the office as either of them ever did,’ Knight wrote.

‘The so-called ‘intoxication incidents’ The Atlantic breathlessly reports have happened exactly ZERO times,’ she added.

She went on to list statistics she said were achieved under Patel’s tenure, including 67,000 arrests nationwide and ‘2,200+ kilos of fentanyl seized – enough to kill 178 million Americans.’ Such claims have not been independently verified.

The clash between Patel and The Atlantic has rapidly escalated into a high-stakes confrontation, with both sides digging in.

The magazine’s reporter, Sarah Fitzpatrick, has publicly stood by her reporting, stating in an interview that she ‘stand[s] by every word of this reporting’ and emphasizing that it was based on extensive sourcing, including current and former FBI personnel.

Meanwhile, Patel’s legal team has accused the outlet of publishing ‘false, unsourced and facially defamatory’ claims, arguing that the reporting relied on vague and unattributed allegations.
