The beloved Malibu farmers market frequented by Hollywood’s elite has been swiftly instructed to relocate due to escalating safety concerns.

Having previously set up shop at the Los Angeles County Library parking lot on Civic Center Way, the market has since nestled into the popular Legacy Park.

Its coveted Malibu location regularly attracts high-profile residents. Over the years, it has drawn celebrities like Simon Cowell, Pierce Brosnan, Cindy Crawford, Hailey Bieber, and renowned fashion designer Betsey Johnson.

City representatives have pointed out that Legacy Park was neither designed nor approved for hosting farmers market activities and was never meant to serve as a long-term venue.

“Our goal isn’t to eliminate a cherished community farmers market,” stated City Manager Joe Irvin in a Friday announcement.

Authorities said despite several attempts, the market’s temporary location continues to cause safety issues, parking shortages, blocked access to nearby businesses, and permit violations.

The Legacy Park cannot safely handle the extra traffic and foot crowds, especially on weekends, city officials said.

Market vendors and booths take up roughly 40% of the Civic Center’s public parking, making it hard for local business customers and visitors to park.

“We have worked to make the current arrangement work, but we also have a responsibility to protect public safety and ensure City requirements are applied fairly,” the city manager added.

While LA County reviews the market’s permanent license, the City has offered a temporary spot right outside City Hall.

High-profile residents have consistently lobbied city officials to keep the market at Legacy Park. In a 2023 Letter to the Editor published by The Malibu Times, designer Betsey Johnson made her stance clear and wrote, “The Malibu Farmers Market has found its true home.”

“The smiling faces of the vendors and customers make the experience even more delightful. I am writing to request that you continue supporting our Malibu Farmers Market and vote unanimously to keep it at Legacy Park,” she wrote.

Despite these plans, questions linger about the duration of Harry and Meghan’s stay in Britain. Sources speculate that they may relocate again within six months to a year, with potential destinations being Australia or Canada.

Since relocating to Montecito, California, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have expanded their personal ‘brand’ away from the constraints of royal protocols.

Their impending return will require them to adapt once more to a lifestyle aligned more closely with royal expectations and the influence of the palace.

The royal source told the Sunday Times: ‘They’ll also be watched like hawks for anything that looks like they’re trying to monetise their brand.’

‘The feeling has always been they can do that in Montecito, but not here. If they come over and do the Montecito playbook – doing deals and making money – in the Cotswolds… that’s not going to go down well.’

But the source says that, while making the readjustments themselves, they will be expecting there to be movement on the royals’ side too.

In their best-case scenario, Harry and Meghan could remain a private couple while also making public appearances alongside serving royals once they return to the fold.

‘It needs all sides to agree a template for “private royals-plus”. It needs them to be much more “private” than “working”, and be seen at family occasions, like Christmas at Sandringham.

‘That requires William and Catherine to say “yes please” and how on earth does that happen? Just saying it out loud sounds implausible.’

William and Harry have not been on speaking terms since the Queen’s funeral in September 2022.

But Harry did tell the BBC last year that he wanted to change that, saying ‘There’s no point in continuing to fight any more.’

While Andrew Morton, Diana’s biographer, told Times Radio that William had been ‘deeply, deeply hurt’ by what Harry had said and written about him in his tell-all book Spare, he added that Harry’s return was ‘probably a good thing’ for the Royal Family.

It gives a chance for his children, Lilibet, five, and Archie, seven, to get to know their grandfather as the King and ‘future proofs’ their status within the Firm, the source continued.

But they must walk a thin line before they are brought back into the fold once again.

If they manage to achieve a ‘private royals-plus’ position, they will receive the best of both worlds – a place among the royals but with the freedom of remaining a private family.

This ‘private’ status is what gives them the freedom to move away again if they please. 

The source said that, while they did not expect their stay in the UK to be forever, it would be ‘an extended period of time’, but admitted that he didn’t think the couple had even worked it out themselves.

With this in mind, the insider added: ‘They might suddenly go: “Why don’t we try Canada for a while? Why don’t we try Australia?” It’s one of the great things about being private individuals [that they can live where they choose].’

But in the meantime, the children are due to start school next month – Lilibet in year one of pre-prep and Archie in the first year of preparatory school.

It was this fact that was instrumental in the short notice of their return, the source added, as they had to wait until the school confirmed their children’s places before they could move.

Harry is said to want Archie to learn to play rugby and cricket, and wants to watch more rugby games himself – something he missed in the US.

With the children’s school places, the potential for Meghan to land a role in Guy Ritchie’s hit Netflix show The Gentlemen and Harry’s opportunity to cosy back up to his family and the Spencers, it seemed like the perfect time to make the move back across the pond.

But Meghan’s potential return to acting appears to have fallen apart already, with Ritchie reportedly withdrawing his offer of the role due to the huge attention their move back to the UK has attracted.

A man from Georgia recently decided to return $30 he had scooped up off the floor in a Walmart after law enforcement had taken to the internet to find him. This ended a case that faced significant mockery on social media, where many questioned why authorities would pursue a lead on a missing $30.

The Albany Police Department in Georgia released an image of the man, seeking community assistance to identify him, after he picked up money another shopper had accidentally dropped in the retail store.

According to the police, the individual chose to pocket the $30 instead of handing it over to the Walmart staff.

The department’s post drew skeptical and sarcastic reactions from commenters who wondered whether the missing $30 called for a public search.

Another commenter imagined what might have happened if the money had been turned in to Walmart employees.

The jokes even made their way to an unrelated police post about a shooting.

“I’m just thankful you guys captured that old man who found $30,” one commenter wrote sarcastically. “I’m sleeping a bit more soundly knowing people aren’t out there just finding money like a bunch of savages.”

Police later announced that the man had returned the money to its owner.

The victim initially wanted to pursue charges but changed their mind after getting the $30 back, according to the department.

Georgia law specifically addresses lost or mislaid property, making it a crime to knowingly keep such property without first taking reasonable steps to return it to its owner.

The Texas Longhorns are poised to start their new season without one of their promising returning players.

Ty’Anthony Smith, a linebacker with notable past contributions, has been dismissed due to conduct considered detrimental to the team, as confirmed by Head Coach Steve Sarkisian.

Smith, who played in 12 games last season, was vying for a starting role on the defensive side. Notably, he began in the Citrus Bowl against Michigan, where he amassed nine tackles and two interceptions. Despite missing last Saturday’s scrimmage due to a bout with the flu, Smith returned to practice earlier this week. However, his tenure with the team was abruptly ended as the university announced his dismissal on Friday evening.

“I didn’t like it,” Sarkisian said. “It’s an unfortunate situation for him individually. For us as a team, I hate that. He’s a quality player, but I have to think about the team first.”

It further complicates the job of new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp.

“Guys are going to have to grow into certain roles,” Sarkisian said. “I think when we do want to go into our base package that we’ve got the right people on the field. How many snaps a game that is, really is depending on the opponent.”

Among this year’s mind-boggling creations are chicken nuggets topped with caviar, pickle-flavored cotton candy, spicy Flamin’ Hot Cheetos breakfast burritos, and even Parmesan-infused ice cream.

Perhaps the dish causing the most buzz is the Caviar and Chicken Nuggets, staggering with its $99 price tag. This unique dish marries the everyday appeal of crispy nuggets with the opulence of caviar and crème fraîche, blending fast food with high-end dining.

On a more budget-friendly note, the Cajun Cluck ‘N’ Chaos is available for $14. This tasty treat features a Cajun-style chicken sloppy joe nestled in a brioche bun, topped with sweet pepper coleslaw and spicy pickles. Adding a twist, it’s served with a skewer that holds a pickled egg and extra pickles, crowned with lime-infused pickle cotton candy.

The fair is also celebrating America’s 250th birthday with a host of patriotic creations. 

For dessert with a historic twist, there’s 1776 Parmesan Ice Cream. The $14 creation combines savory aged Parmesan ice cream with tart cherry and pound cake and is inspired by an 18th-century version of the unusual dessert.

And yes, Parmesan ice cream is exactly as divisive as it sounds. Another creation that might get a similar reaction is the bacon brisket mac & cheese cake donut, which is described as ‘the perfect sweet and spicy bite’ for $7. 

The 1776 Dubai Strawberries, costing $19, take inspiration from the viral Dubai chocolate trend, combining fresh strawberries with melted milk chocolate, pistachio crème and crunchy kataifi pastry. 

The Sweet Americana dessert combines strawberry shortcake, lemon bar and blueberry crisp ice creams, while the Patriotic Molten Lava Celebration pairs warm chocolate lava cake with raspberry topping, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and red, white and blue sprinkles.

America’s ‘Berry’ Good Grilled Cheese, priced at $16, uses caramelized brioche, blueberry white cheddar, raspberry amaretto jam, blueberry bourbon jam and crispy candied pork belly.

For breakfast, meanwhile, the All-American Scrambled Egg Roll stuffs bacon, sausage, hash browns, scrambled eggs and cheddar into a crispy egg-roll wrapper before adding cheesy ranch sauce. It costs $15. 

And then there’s the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Breakfast Burrito, which packs scrambled eggs, tater tots, green chiles, cheese, salsa, sour cream, jalapenos and sausage gravy into a tortilla before adding the fiery Cheetos. It costs $16.

The fair’s deep-fried tradition is alive and well, too. Banana Cream Fries turn funnel cake into crispy sticks covered with banana pudding, fresh banana slices, whipped cream and crushed vanilla wafers for $8.

There’s also a Deep Fried Cookie Dough Pie with vanilla or cinnamon ice cream for $12, while the Biscoff Cookie Butter Cheesecake Funnel Cake piles cookie butter, cookie crumbles and cream cheese icing onto a funnel cake for $15. 

Those looking for something savory can try the Porky Parm Gnocchi, one of this year’s three finalists for the Iowa State Fair’s People’s Choice top new food.

The $14 dish combines gluten-free potato gnocchi and Graziano sausage with a creamy Parmesan sauce, pesto, shaved Parmesan and parsley. It even comes with a tiny souvenir pig.

The other two finalists are the $15 Ultimate Minneapple Pie, a deep-fried apple pie served with vanilla and cinnamon ice cream and homemade apple syrup, and the $15 All-American Scrambled Egg Roll. Fairgoers voted on the finalists through August 19, with the winner due to be announced August 21. 

There are plenty of other mashups for adventurous eaters, including Garlic Dill Pickle Cheese Curds, a $9 combination of two classic fair flavors, and a PB & J Corndog for $10, featuring peanut butter in the batter and strawberry or grape jelly on top.

The Iowa Sweet Corn & Popcorn Sundae is another particularly unusual option, combining sweet corn soft serve with toffee corn, caramel, sea salt, buttery popcorn and whipped cream.

And for those who prefer their food to remain somewhat recognizable, there are still plenty of burgers, bison dishes, pretzels, grilled meats, fried treats and classic fair staples to choose from.

For more than a century, state and county fairs have provided an excuse to abandon sensible eating habits for a day – and Iowa has turned that tradition into something of an art form.  

The fair originally dates back to 1854, when the first fair was held in Fairfield with an estimated 7,000 to 10,000 visitors and a budget of just $323; it moved permanently to Des Moines in 1878. 

Today, the fair attracts more than 1.1 million visitors over its 11-day run, making it Iowa’s largest annual event and one of the biggest state fairs in the US.

In the small town of Grand Island, New York, Bridget María Chesterton found herself at the center of a struggle she never anticipated. Only two weeks after the joy of welcoming a new life, she was found on the bathroom floor, trapped in a haze of confusion and fear. Her words were incoherent, and in the blink of an eye, she was in the emergency room, endlessly asking, “What’s going on?” Her reality had slipped away.

Chesterton’s family received a diagnosis that shed light on her unraveling mental state: postpartum psychosis. This severe condition, now gaining attention due to the high-profile case of Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts woman facing trial for the tragic loss of her three children, raises critical questions. Did postpartum psychosis play a role in Clancy’s actions?

While postpartum psychosis is rarer than its more familiar counterpart, postpartum depression, researchers estimate it affects 1 to 2 out of every 1,000 new mothers. Though many women experiencing this mental health crisis do not pose a danger, severe cases may lead to attempts of harm against themselves or their children.

Reflecting on her ordeal, Chesterton credits her recovery to a combination of timely medication and unwavering family support. “It could have gone sideways,” she admitted, acknowledging the precariousness of her path to wellness.

As public discourse swirls around the Clancy case, Chesterton finds herself frustrated by the skepticism and dismissals she often encounters online regarding postpartum psychosis. Determined to change perceptions, she speaks out, hoping her story can educate and support others. In an effort to further illuminate this misunderstood condition, her poignant poem capturing the depths of her experience is slated for publication this fall. Her mission is clear: to correct misconceptions and offer a beacon of hope to those navigating similar shadows.

“It’s something that we do not talk about as a society,” said Chesterton, a 52-year-old history professor who lives outside Buffalo, New York. “I’m not embarrassed about what happened. I want people to know about it.”

A mom was fine at first, then ‘in bad shape’

Chesterton and her husband James Fitzsimmons wanted a baby desperately and underwent fertility treatment for years. She finally got pregnant in her mid-40s and had severe asthma during the pregnancy that put her in the hospital. She gave birth to her daughter by C-section in January 2019, about two months early.

“Everything about bringing her into the world was awful,” Chesterton said. “It was the longest seven months of my life.”

Just after the birth, the baby was hurried off to the neonatal intensive care unit, where she spent her first weeks of life. To protect the child’s privacy, The Associated Press is withholding her name at the family’s request.
