California School District Invests Heavily in Innovative ‘Rap Curriculum’ Amidst Performance Challenges

In a move generating significant discussion, a California school district identified for its below-average performance has allocated close to $300,000 for an innovative educational partnership. The district aims to enhance student engagement through a rap-based curriculum, a decision that has caught the attention of the Justice Department, prompting concerns about its implications.

The Merced City School District, known for its challenges in academic achievement, has entered into a $270,000 agreement with the organization School Yard Rap, according to reports from the New York Post. This collaboration is designed to incorporate elements of hip-hop into educational programming, aiming to make learning more relatable and engaging for students.

A key component of this initiative is a summer program dubbed “Rap Camp,” along with an “African American Affinity Group.” These elements of the program have sparked debate over their compliance with federal guidelines, raising questions about the appropriateness and legality of such a partnership.

The Merced City School District

The district’s investment in School Yard Rap is part of an effort to integrate hip-hop culture into the educational experience, with components such as historical lessons, songwriting, DJ-ing, and performance activities. The aim is to create a dynamic and interactive learning environment that resonates with students.

Lessons include history lessons, songwriting, DJ-ing and performances.

“The School Yard Rap curriculum transforms history lessons into relatable characters presented through songs and storytelling- resulting in emotional connection,” the School Yard Rap website states. 

The school district told Fox News Digital that it  “proudly supports the partnership” with School Yard Rap, which fosters “a unique approach to education by engaging students through music, media, interactive assemblies and much more.”

The camps are advertised and open to all 3rd through 8th grade students across (the) Merced City School District, it said. 

Established in 2016, School Yard Rap, which operates in 28 states, presents “a world where learning meets rhythm, exploring diverse cultures and subjects through interactive music-infused modules.”

Merced has handed out $610,000 worth of contracts to School Yard Rap, the Post reported. Fox News Digital has reached out to the school district and School Yard Rap. 

The Justice Department told Fox News Digital that any race-based programming is “troubling.”

“It is illegal for the government to offer benefits solely on the basis of race. We have not had the opportunity to investigate these allegations, but if true, they are troubling,” Harmeet Dhillon, assistant attorney general of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, told Fox News Digital.

Brandon Brown, a former school teacher and founder of School Yard Rap, told the newspaper that the programming wasn’t exclusionary.

“This camp specifically — the African American Affinity Camp — is open to every single student grades 3rd to 8th, focusing on African American history and the diaspora,” he said. “I think this is politically driven and the reason this is being called out.”

However, one of School Yard Rap’s programs, titled “Moor than a Month” features song lyrics mimicking those by hip-hop group Migos, which talks about white patriarchy.

“I’mma be Black every day that I’m here, no cap, for more than a month, just like every Black kid in class,” the song said.

“So this album for them, but this track’s for you — every teacher and parent, you need this truth,” one line states. “History books have a white male skew, but believe me I ain’t blaming you. That’s who wrote it on paper — it’s a cycle by nature.”

The school district serves 11,400 students but has a student-teacher ratio of 25 to 1, according to Niche, a website that compiles data to rank and review schools. Only 13% of the students meet math-proficiency benchmarks, the report states. 

The Justice Department has launched probes recently into other school districts for alleged race-based programs and hiring practices. In April 2025, it began looking into Chicago Public Schools’ Black Student Success Plan over alleged race-based benefits.

Convicted baby killer Keli Lane has been granted day release from prison to support her long-term partner, who has launched an unfair dismissal claim against his former employer.

At 51 years old, Lane has been observed on a specially supervised day release from the high-security confines of Silverwater jail, accompanied by her boyfriend, Patrick Cogan.

Cogan taught at St Pius X College at Chatswood on Sydney’s Lower North Shore for decades before being fired in 2025 after allegedly using his work email to engage with the media about Lane’s case.

Cogan has contested his dismissal by filing a dispute with the Fair Work Commission.

In 2010, Lane was convicted of the 1996 murder of her newborn daughter, Tegan, leading to a sentence that includes a minimum non-parole period of 13 years and five months.

The former water polo star has consistently asserted her innocence while being moved between several of New South Wales’ most secure prisons.

Her request for parole was rejected in 2024 due to the state’s “no body, no parole” legislation.

Tegan’s remains have never been found.

“In circumstances where Tegan’s body has never been found, the offender’s case in respect of release to parole, has been determined solely by reference to s 135A of the Crimes (Administration of Sentences) Act 1999, which incorporates the ‘no body, no parole’ laws,” the NSW State Parole Authority said.

“The Authority is not satisfied that the offender has co-operated satisfactorily in police investigations, or other actions, to identify the location of Tegan.”

Her prison term is due to finish in December 2028.

Lane tried to appeal her conviction after being found guilty in 2010, however that appeal was dismissed.

With the installation of this modern field, the Braves are setting their sights on hosting postseason games, undeterred by unpredictable weather—a privilege that has benefited other schools in the area equipped with similar facilities. “Our aim is definitely to host regionals and sectionals,” shared Diann Durbin, Mt. Open Heaven 24 March 2026 MESSAGE

Ephesians 1:3 tells us that we have been blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ; however, walking in those blessings doesn’t come cheap. God’s blessings are invaluable; for instance, the blessing that He pronounced over Abraham in today’s Bible reading is still in effect today. Christians, Muslims, Jews, and people from all cultures and nationalities partake in Abraham’s blessing because blessings go root-deep. You must note, however, that Abraham’s blessing didn’t come cheap; he was willing to sacrifice his only son to God in complete obedience to His will. God’s blessings are available, but as I always say, in God’s kingdom, nothing goes for nothing.

When Isaac wanted to bless Esau in Genesis 27:1-4, he asked him to go hunting and prepare a special meal for him with his catch. He wanted Esau to do something special for him to provoke the kind of blessing that nobody can reverse. While Esau went hunting in the field for a deer, his mother and brother got busy, preparing what Isaac loved. Both sons had to work hard in one way or the other with the aim of receiving their father’s blessing. When God called Abram and asked him to leave his father’s house, He pronounced some blessings on him (Genesis 12:1-3). However, those blessings were little compared to the blessing in today’s Bible reading, where God swore by Himself. This is the highest form of blessing that anybody can receive from God, and Abraham did something to provoke it. You can position yourself before God in such a way that will make Him go over and beyond to bless you and your seed.

Years ago, I was at an airport with two heavy bags, and two of my spiritual children approached me. The one who got to me first merely greeted me, while the second not only greeted me but also collected my bags. I greeted both of them and said, “God bless you” to the one who collected my bags. The other one who only greeted me asked why I didn’t bless him too, and I asked him what he had done for me that would have made me bless him. If the fig tree in Mark 11:12-14 had produced fruit to relieve Jesus of His hunger, it would have received a blessing, not a curse.

Beloved, when you bear fruit for God by serving Him and pleasing Him in all you do, you will receive wonderful blessings that will surpass your imaginations from Him.

“You are not who you are in Christ because of the things you have done; you are in Christ because of what He has done. He died and rose again so that you and I could live in the freedom of His love,” said Neil T. Anderson, an American writer.

In this passage, Paul speaks to the believers in Galatia about who they were and what they had inherited through Christ. He emphasises that their connection with God hinged entirely on what Christ had done, rather than on their own efforts. Using the metaphor of an heir and a child, Paul paints a picture of the incredible change that happens when someone puts their faith in Jesus. Before Christ, believers were like heirs under the watchful eye of guardians, bound by the constraints of the law. But thanks to Christ’s redemptive work, they have been adopted as God’s sons and daughters, moving from a place of bondage to one of freedom, and from law to grace.

Now, as children of God, we have the Spirit of sonship, which allows us to call God ‘Abba, Father’—a term similar to “daddy, daddy”. Recognising that we are God’s children through Christ gives us the confidence to approach the Father and enjoy a deep, personal relationship with Him. This realisation should change our lives, freeing us from the need to earn God’s love or approval. Instead, we can rest in the finished work of Christ, assured that the Father loves us and that we are accepted in His beloved Son. Understanding our identity in Christ empowers us to live out our faith with confidence and courage. We don’t need to shrink back in fear before worldly powers or spirits that challenge God’s truth. The heart of this passage lies in Paul’s powerful declaration that because we are sons, we are also heirs of God. As His children, we inherit His promises and blessings. Our inheritance goes beyond material things; it includes the fullness of life in Christ—eternal life, peace, joy, and a secure future. That said, stop living as if you are a slave or a foreigner to God. You are a son or daughter, co-heir with Jesus Christ!

Unprecedented Heatwave Sweeps Across the U.S.: Expect Rising Temperatures Nationwide


Following the unprecedented March heatwave that shattered records in 14 states and across the U.S., a massive heat dome that has been scorching the Southwest is now shifting eastward. Experts in meteorology and weather history suggest this could become one of the most widespread heatwaves in American records.

This oppressive heat is expected to linger, potentially extending into the middle of the following week as April begins, according to meteorologist Gregg Gallina from the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center.

“The entire nation is poised to experience soaring temperatures,” Gallina remarked on Monday. “What’s truly astonishing is the vast area affected by these record-breaking temperatures.”

This heat dome, characterized by a high-pressure system that traps warm air like a lid over a region, is set to subject Flagstaff, Arizona, to 11 or 12 consecutive days surpassing the city’s previous March temperature record, noted Jeff Masters, a meteorologist affiliated with Yale Climate Connections.

Gallina further explained that the eastward drift of the heat dome will push temperatures into the 90s Fahrenheit (mid-30s Celsius) by Wednesday across the southern and central plains. As a result, roughly a quarter to a third of the contiguous United States will be nearing March temperature records, Gallina added.

The physical area of this heat wave likely dwarfs two other historic heat waves — one in 2012 in the Upper Midwest and Northeast and another in 2021 in the Pacific Northwest — according to weather historian Chris Burt, author of the book “Extreme Weather.” It may not be as large as the Dust Bowl heat waves of 1936, but that was a series of heat waves over two months during summer, not a single big event like now, Burt said.

Both the Dust Bowl and the 2021 heat wave were more intense, with higher temperatures that hurt people more because they fell in June and July, Gallina said.

Another saving grace for people in this heat wave is that it’s not as humid as it would be if the temperatures rose in the summer, Gallina said.

On Friday, four places in Arizona and California hit 112 degrees (44.4 degrees Celsius), according to the Weather Service. Not only did that smash the record for the hottest March day in the continental United States by 4 degrees (2 degrees Celsius), but it was only 1 degree shy of the hottest day recorded in the Lower 48 in April.

Climatologist and weather historian Maximiliano Herrera, who tracks global weather records, compiled a list of 14 states that have notched their hottest March day on record since this heat dome started: California, Arizona, Nevada, Kansas, New Mexico, Nebraska, Utah, South Dakota, Missouri, Iowa, Colorado, Wyoming, Minnesota and Idaho.

“In Mexico, even May records were trashed with March records broken by as much as 14 (degrees Fahrenheit), far more than July 1936, March 1907 or June 2021,” Herrera wrote in an email.

The National Center for Environmental Information registered at least 479 weather stations breaking records for March from Wednesday through Saturday, based on its network of stations. Herrera, who analyzed a broader set of data, said the true number is likely higher. Another 1,472 daily records — which are easier to break — were shattered at the same time, the center said.

What’s happening is the jet stream — which moves weather systems from west to east — is pretty much stuck as far westward as the storms dousing Hawaii, where people are seeing torrential rains and flooding, Masters and Gallina said.

On Friday, a group of international climate scientists called World Weather Attribution determined that the record heat was “virtually impossible” and 800 times more likely because of climate change from the burning of coal, oil and natural gas. The result of those activities added at least 4.7 degrees (2.6 degrees Celsius) to the heat, said report co-author Clair Barnes, an Imperial College of London scientist with the group.

The heat dome will move on by late next week, Masters said: “We just have to give it time.”

Eric Kripke is preparing to step away from The Boys, but not before delivering a special treat for fans: a long-awaited Supernatural reunion.

The popular Prime Video series, set to debut its new season on April 8 with two episodes, will showcase an eagerly anticipated face-off featuring The Boys star Jensen Ackles alongside his former Supernatural co-stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins. This reunion, however, is far from cordial; the trailer teases a tense scene where Ackles’ character, Soldier Boy, is seen choking and hoisting Collins off the ground as Padalecki looks on in shock—an expected twist in the unpredictable world of The Boys.

In an interview with Decider, Ackles shared that it was “a lot of fun” to have Padalecki and Collins experience the wildly outrageous antics that The Boys is famed for, thanks to Kripke, who also brought Supernatural to life.

“Kripke was bringing back people he knows well, giving him the opportunity to torment them just like he does with the rest of us,” Ackles remarked.

He went on to say that this reunion “was definitely something [Kripke] was looking forward to, and I was eager for it too because it was like, welcome to hell.”

Fans have been asking for this Supernatural reunion ever since Ackles joined the cast in Season 3, followed closely after in Season 4 by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who played his on-screen father in Supernatural.

Ackles stars as Soldier Boy, a foulmouthed supe who rose to fame as an American war hero during World War II before he was eventually sold out by Vought to the Russians, who held him captive and experimented on him for decades. The nature of Collins’ and Padalecki’s characters remains unclear, but Ackles told Decider their special appearance “did not disappoint.”

“It is disgusting and outrageous. And you guys, you know, I hope you like it – for their sake,” Ackles added.

As for Soldier Boy, Ackles revealed the supe will be on his own quest for revenge in this final season after Season 4 ended with him being imprisoned once again.

“He’s got some questions,” Ackles said of his character. “He also has some bones to pick because the last we saw him, things didn’t go the way that he was told they were going to go. And so he has to decide whether he or not he’s going to enact some revenge, whether he’s going to join some forces, or whether he’s just going to blow it all up.”

Knowing Soldier Boy, he’ll likely blow up the whole thing.

The Boys Season 5 premieres on Prime Video on Wednesday, April 8.

The Lord responded with these words: “…O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me. And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour” (Matthew 17:17-18 NKJV).

The disciples had been given authority to cast out demons and heal the sick (Matthew 10:1), which made their inability to cast out the demon from the boy perplexing to them. After witnessing how Jesus successfully cast out the demon, in their frustration, they asked Him privately why they couldn’t do it themselves.

Then the Master explained, “…Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting” (Matthew 17:20-21). Notice His words; they reveal something important about the essence of true prayer and fasting.

Sadly, this is where many people miss it; they fast for more power to cast out devils, but that’s not the idea here. One of the things that prayer and fasting does for you is to get you more submissive to the lordship of Jesus. The more you yield yourself to Him, the more His power flows through you.

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for the revelation of your Word. I submit myself wholly to your lordship, acknowledging that you are my sufficiency and strength. Your power and grace flow through me unhindered to heal the sick, cast out devils, raise the dead, and do mighty works with the Gospel, in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.

In a decisive move on Monday night, the Beaufort County Council chose to return a proposed gunfire ordinance to the Community Services and Public Safety committee for further evaluation. This unanimous decision followed an earlier postponement of the second reading, a strategic delay meant to facilitate discussions with both local and state law enforcement representatives.

County officials expressed their desire for a more comprehensive dialogue on the ordinance’s language and the practicalities of its enforcement. The council’s aim is to ensure the new regulations are both effective and enforceable, reflecting the input gathered from these critical conversations.

Initially, the ordinance had successfully navigated through the Community Services and Public Safety committee, receiving approval in its first reading by the county council. It seeks to curb the discharge of firearms within 500 feet of structures, parks, or playgrounds in certain unincorporated areas. This measure was primarily motivated by community complaints about reckless gunfire and subsequent property damage caused by stray bullets.

During the recent meeting with law enforcement officials, council members and administration hinted at a probable shift in the ordinance’s classification—from criminal to civil—indicating a potential change in how violations might be addressed. This pivot could signify a more flexible approach to maintaining public safety while considering the practical aspects of ordinance enforcement.

According to council members and administration that attended the meeting with law enforcement officials, amending the ordinance from criminal to civil is likely.

“My biggest takeaway is that we send it back to committee to work on it further. I agree, and the sheriff and solicitor both agree that potentially taking away the criminal side of it would make it easier for prosecution in magistrate court,” said Councilman David Bartholomew.

The committee could also weigh changing the ordinance to fit more into a nuisance or peace disturbance type of ordinance. What needs to be solved, according to county officials, is what type of penalties would be brought to individuals violating the ordinance.

“I think we’re getting closer, but it needs to be civil penalties not criminal,” said Councilwoman Anna Maria Tabernik. “I believe there’s more to be done.”

The Community Services and Public Safety committee meets on the first Monday of April.
