A deadly incident at a Virginia university, linked to a former student with a shadowy past, has raised grave concerns. The student in question, previously convicted for ISIS-related activities, re-enrolled at the university without officials being informed of his criminal background.

On March 12, in a shocking act of violence, Mohamed Bailor Jalloh allegedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” before unleashing gunfire in an ROTC classroom at Old Dominion University (ODU). The tragic attack led to the death of an Army veteran instructor and wounded two students. The chaos concluded with members of the ROTC unit subduing and killing the assailant.

Jalloh’s troubling past includes a 2016 conviction for attempting to supply support to the Islamic State, an extremist group with plans to target U.S. military members. This history, however, remained concealed from the university.

Old Dominion University disclosed that neither Jalloh’s federal probation officer, the FBI, nor any related state or federal agencies had notified them about his conviction. This lack of communication has sparked an outcry and demands for accountability.

“Had ODU known about Jalloh’s criminal history, it is highly likely that ODU would have sought his removal from campus due to the risk he posed, particularly to military-affiliated individuals,” the independent report said.

The FBI told News Media Thursday it is not the agency responsible for notifying colleges.

“The FBI does not serve as a notification authority for colleges or universities regarding an individual’s criminal historyhat is a shared responsibility across state, local, federal and community partners,” the FBI said. 

Additionally, the bureau noted that Jalloh’s terrorism-related convictions were widely publicized by the Department of Justice in 2016 and 2017, with at least three press releases detailing his case still available on the agency’s website.

“Furthermore, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia issued several press releases and publicly available information, including a press release when Jalloh was sentenced in 2017 for attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization,” the agency said. 

“The release remains on the Department of Justice website and can be found through an internet search with multiple links available.”

ODU said that, under Virginia law enacted in 2022, public universities are prohibited from asking applicants about their criminal history during the admissions process. 

In compliance with the law, ODU said it removed criminal history questions from its applications, leaving the university dependent on voluntary student disclosures or outside law enforcement notifications.

Under Jalloh’s federal supervised release, his probation officer reportedly had the authority to require him to disclose his criminal record to third parties.

However, no such notification was provided to any university office or campus police, according to the report.

“Given that Virginia law requires universities to rely on student self-disclosure, it is even more important that other law enforcement agencies ensure that information that universities need to know to safeguard their students is shared with universities. This critical failure led to tragic consequences here,” the ODU report said.

Jalloh also never voluntarily disclosed his 2016 federal terrorism conviction to ODU, according to the report.

While Virginia law allows public universities to inquire about criminal history after an applicant is admitted, ODU’s policy at the time only sent post-admission background questionnaires to first-time students, excluding readmitted returning students such as Jalloh.

According to the campus report, Jalloh first enrolled at ODU as an undergraduate student in 2007. After being academically suspended in 2010, he was readmitted in 2011 after serving in the Army National Guard. 

He briefly took classes through spring 2012 before stopping for unknown reasons and was later convicted on federal terrorism charges in 2016.

He then served eight years in prison before being released in December 2024. Afterward, Jalloh applied for readmission as a returning student and was re-enrolled at ODU in 2025.

After Jalloh’s case exposed a gap in the university’s post-admission screening policies, ODU said it officially expanded its post-admission criminal history questionnaire to include readmitted students alongside first-time students.

Additionally, the report said nothing else on Jalloh’s readmission application raised any concerns.

Jalloh’s application reportedly listed a private residential address in Sterling, Virginia, rather than a federal prison address. Two professors who taught him in the months before the attack also reported no behavioral concerns.

The United States Probation and Pretrial Services Eastern District of Virginia did not immediately respond to a request for comment from News Media. 

Michael Cohen, formerly the personal attorney for President Trump, is joining the chorus of New Yorkers upset over receiving unsettling notifications from the city. These letters, which have been hitting mailboxes, alert residents they could be liable for a new tax on secondary homes introduced by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, according to The Post’s findings.

A few days ago, Cohen opened one of these unwelcome letters, advising him to prove that his condo at Trump Park Avenue, located on the Upper East Side, serves as his primary residence. If he fails to do so, he could face substantial additional taxes running into tens of thousands of dollars.

Expressing his frustration to The Post on Thursday, Cohen said, “For 34 years, I’ve been diligently paying property taxes in NYC. I’m registered to vote here, yet now the burden falls on me to demonstrate my residency to the city.”

Cohen is particularly troubled by the extensive personal details the city demands from him and fellow residents, a demand which he finds concerning with a leftist leader at the city’s helm.

“I’m very wary of handing over this information to a democratic socialist intent on redistributing wealth from affluent New Yorkers or those perceived as such,” Cohen remarked. He also mentioned that many neighbors received the same nerve-wracking alert.

The city recently began sending the letters to tens of thousands of property owners saying they have to prove their address is their primary residence or be subject to Mamdani and Gov. Kathy Hochul’s controversial tax on second homes, which passed as part of the state budget earlier this year.

The levy targets second homes that are worth at least $5 million, along with condos and co-ops that are worth at least $1 million that are unoccupied, non-primary residences.

With the tax rate for condos and co-ops ranging from 4% and 6.5%, Cohen says he’d be on the hook for nearly $50,000 in new taxes if he is erroneously slapped with the charge.

Letter recipients have to jump through a number of bureaucratic hoops to avoid the tax, as The Post previously reported.

To prove primary residency, they can upload their most recently filed federal or state tax returns  – an ask that left Cohen furious.

“Who would give their tax returns?” he incredulously asked. “This is beyond abnormal.” 

The city lets people provide other proof of residence, like a driver’s license, though Cohen said he coudn’t submit the form without including his tax return on the decidedly non-user-friendly website.

He also chaffed at a request for the Social Security numbers of everyone living at his condo.

On top of that, the Mamdani administration wants to know if a property is owned by a trust or limited liability company. In such cases, the city requires copies of the trust agreement or an affidavit from the managing member of the trust attesting to the fact that it’s a primary residence.

Cohen’s condo at the former Hotel Delmonico is held in a trust, he said, the purpose being to shield the property from potential lawsuits or judgements. A trust can ensure a smooth transition of assets to Cohen’s children, too.

All of the intrusive questions left Cohen – who has mended fences with Trump since serving as a key witness against him in New York State’s business fraud case in 2023 – concerned about data security.

“Who is going to have access to this information and use it?” he said. “Will the people in the administration all have access and where is it going to sit? Is it a secured website?”

Earlier this week, the Mamdani administration published a searchable database of the city’s properties – including the full names and addresses of each property owner – who could fall under the new tax.

The move drew widespread criticism for endangering people on the list.

“It was very disconcerting to see my name listed and to see many of my neighbors,” employment labor attorney Carolyn Richmond told The Post.

The list is an attempt at “shaming everyone in this city who has worked hard to succeed,” she added.

Mamdani’s office did not answer a request for comment.

In a shocking turn of events, no charges will be filed against the parents of the toddler who miraculously emerged alive from a hospital morgue after a near-tragic drowning in an Arizona pool.

On February 8, as the Super Bowl LX captivated millions, tragedy almost struck the Fiordilino family in Gilbert when 18-month-old Vincent Lorenzo was discovered floating lifeless in their backyard pool shortly after 5:30 p.m., according to a detailed police report reviewed by the Daily Mail.

The quick-thinking parents, Alexus and Angelo Fiordilino, sprang into action, pulling their young son from the water and rushing him to Dignity Health Mercy Gilbert Medical Center in a desperate bid to save his life.

Heartbreakingly, Dr. Aryan Toosi pronounced Vincent dead roughly an hour later. However, in an astonishing twist, the toddler was rediscovered alive inside the hospital’s morgue around 11 p.m. by a vigilant medical professional, police have confirmed.

Initially, the Gilbert Police Department advised pressing negligence charges against the parents, but Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell ultimately decided that securing a conviction beyond a reasonable doubt would be improbable, as reported by the Associated Press.

‘The family had multiple childproof locks and safety measures in place, and multiple adults were present in the home, all of whom believed someone was watching the child,’ Mitchell said Wednesday.

‘Additionally, the investigation found no evidence that the parents exhibited any obvious signs of impairment.’ 

The news comes just weeks after the Daily Mail revealed disturbing details from the incident, including that police officers repeatedly warned the doctor that the child was still breathing. 

Vincent’s parents had realized their baby son was missing after the couple went into the garage ‘to talk’ before heading to the backyard couch to watch television, investigators detailed.

Alexus, 29, soon realized they had not seen their son for a while before they searched and found him in the water. 

His mom pulled him out and started to perform CPR while someone else called 911, the report stated. 

After first responders arrived, they transported him to the hospital. Dr Toosi soon declared the toddler dead, despite police repeatedly warning him that he was breathing. 

An officer recalled hearing a nurse say ‘I have a pulse’ before other hospital staffers helped her ‘in attempting to revive Vincent’, the report stated.

That cop then walked into the room where Dr. Toosi was talking with the boy’s parents, and informed him of what he overheard, investigators said.

The officer claims the physician then responded sharply. 

‘Toosi arrogantly told me he was the doctor, he has a medical degree, he went to medical school for a reason, and to let him do his thing,’ he stated in the report. 

Alexus and Angelo were then told to say their final goodbyes to their child, but within hours, they were told he was actually alive, officials documented. 

Vincent was then airlifted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital for treatment.

An MRI confirmed that he suffered extensive brain damage and will need lifelong care.

A hospital spokesperson previously told the Daily Mail: ‘This is a heartbreaking situation. We immediately conducted a thorough review of all aspects of the care provided to learn what happened and to make meaningful changes to strengthen our care.

‘Out of respect for the patient’s privacy, we cannot discuss details. We continue to work with the family and their representative. Patient safety and exceptional care is our highest priority.

The family plans to take legal action against Dignity Health Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, their attorney said earlier this month, AZ Family reported. 

Dr Toosi has held an osteopathic physician license since 2023, according to state board records. 

He previously completed his emergency medicine residency at Michigan’s Sparrow Hospital in 2022.

In a dramatic showdown at a Georgia gas station, a quick-thinking mother used a gas pump to thwart an alleged attempt to abduct her children, all caught on surveillance footage released this week.

Captured by FOX 5 Atlanta, the footage depicts the tense moments as the woman refueled at a Shell station in Marietta around midnight. Without warning, a shirtless and barefoot individual, identified by authorities as 30-year-old Jerahn Tucker, made his way toward her vehicle.

According to Charles McPhilamy, the Public Information Officer for the Marietta Police Department, the encounter began with Tucker conversing with the woman before the situation swiftly became alarming.

“Tucker suddenly charged at the vehicle,” McPhilamy detailed. “In a terrifying attempt, he tried to open the doors and forcibly remove a child from the back seat.”

A warrant cited by FOX 5 Atlanta says the mother later told investigators Tucker claimed he had a gun before becoming aggressive.

Surveillance video shows one of the woman’s children jumping from the vehicle and running around it as Tucker chased after him. At one point, Tucker opened the rear passenger door while another child remained inside the vehicle.

The mother then grabbed the gas pump hose and used it to keep Tucker away from her children until two bystanders rushed over to help, the video shows.

“What is this individual capable of?” McPhilamy said. “What are they doing? Why are they trying to get in my own car? What are they doing? Trying to pull children out of the car.”

Two witnesses dropped what they were carrying and rushed over to help as someone called 911, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.

Tucker got into his vehicle and drove away, but officers stopped him a short distance from the gas station and took him into custody.

“The actions of the mother and everyone on the scene, their ability to remain calm under pressure and push him away, get him away from the children, get a hold of us so that we can get to the area allowed us to hold this individual accountable,” McPhilamy told the station.

Tucker remains in the Cobb County Jail on charges including kidnapping and simple assault.

Authorities have not released a possible motive for the alleged attack.

A man who provided his son with the firearm used in the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. The incident resulted in the deaths of two students and two teachers.

Colin Gray’s sentencing came shortly after his son, Colt Gray, received a life sentence without parole for the September 4, 2024, shooting. This school, located approximately 45 miles northeast of Atlanta, witnessed a grim event, leaving a community in mourning. Colt Gray, only 16 years old, had admitted guilt to murder along with other charges.

Judge Nicholas Primm, who was responsible for sentencing both Colin and Colt Gray, delivered a stern message to Colin. “It is clear you failed as a parent,” Primm stated, acknowledging the complexity of punishing negligence without the intention of committing a crime.

“My heart aches for everyone affected that day and all who continue to feel its impact. The law obliges me to separate emotion from judgment. I cannot allow passion to dictate sentencing, though the pain you caused is immeasurable,” Primm remarked during the sentencing.

At 55 years old, Gray joins a small group of parents in the United States who have faced criminal charges after their children were involved in shootings. This case highlights a growing legal precedent in the tragic context of school violence.

A jury in March found Colin Gray guilty of second-degree murder in the deaths of two 14-year-old students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo. Georgia law defines second-degree murder as causing the death of a child by committing the crime of cruelty to children. Gray was also found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the killings of teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53.

Another teacher and eight other students were wounded, seven of them hit by gunfire.

Families speak their pain

Family members of those who died and victims of the shooting, many of whom also spoke during Colt Gray’s sentencing, condemned what they said were Colin Gray’s failures as a parent and urged the judge to give him the maximum sentence.

“This wasn’t unavoidable. This was preventable. Because of the choices made inside the Gray household, four families were handed life sentences of grief,” said Breanna Schermerhorn, whose son was killed.

“He did not pull the trigger but purchased and left a firearm accessible to a minor,” said Shayna Aspinwall, whose husband was killed. She said the sentence must take into account “the families left behind who must carry the grief and trauma for the rest of our lives.”

The judge addressed those in the courtroom after announcing the sentence: “This only closes the legal chapter for this horror. The pain, the heartache, they continue. I understand that. I hope all of you know this community loves you, and I ask that God gives you peace.”

Prosecutors said Colin Gray missed red flags

Prosecutors said Colin Gray gave his son the rifle as a Christmas gift along with ammunition, a gun sight and other shooting accessories.

An investigator testified that Colt Gray carried the semiautomatic rifle onto the school bus with the barrel sticking out and wrapped in poster board. The teenager left his second-period class and went to a bathroom, emerged with the rifle and shot people in the hallway and a classroom, the investigator said.

Colt Gray, who was 14 at the time of the shooting, had shown signs of deteriorating mental health in the weeks leading up to the killings, according to testimony. He belonged to a “true crime community” online where he and other young people discussed their obsession with mass shooters, an investigator testified.

The teen’s mother, Marcee Gray, who was separated from Colin Gray, told investigators she had argued with her estranged husband weeks before the shooting, asking him to secure his guns and restrict their son’s access.

Prosecutors had asked for a sentence of 80 years

Defense attorney Brian Hobbs asked the judge for a sentence of 10 years in prison followed by 10 years on probation. Barrow County District Attorney Brad Smith said Gray deserved a sentence of 80 years in prison.

Hobbs argued that Colt Gray “actively hid the depth of his involvement” in the online community obsessed with mass shooters, and the red flags enumerated by prosecutors were outliers among happier moments.

Smith countered that Colin Gray ignored “a substantial and unjustifiable risk.”

“This was the risk that he was ignoring, that there would be a mass shooting of children at a school, and he gave his son the exact tool he would need to accomplish this,” Smith said.

Colin Gray is not the first parent to face such charges

Prosecutors have in recent years held parents responsible when they believe they can prove a parent contributed to a killing.

Jennifer and James Crumbley were the first U.S. parents to face such charges after their son, Ethan, killed four students and wounded others at Michigan’s Oxford High School in 2021. Like Colin Gray, they were unaware of their son’s plans but had gifted him a gun before the shooting. They are serving 10-year prison terms for involuntary manslaughter. Hobbs, the defense attorney, urged the judge to use that sentence as a guide.

The judge called these cases “divisive.” There would have been no crime by the father if the son hadn’t brought a gun to school and shot people, he noted. But he said Colin Gray could have locked up the guns, kept ammunition out of the house, had someone else keep the guns and gotten his son counseling.

“You were convicted because the warning lights were flashing brighter and brighter and you didn’t get him help and you didn’t remove his access to the guns,” Primm said.
