Patrick Clancy, faced with the unimaginable, took the stand as the first witness in the Massachusetts murder trial involving his former wife, Lindsay Clancy. He recounted the disturbing decline in her mental health, which preceded the tragic deaths of their three young children.

In a case that has captured widespread attention, Lindsay Clancy stands accused of murdering her children in January 2023. The prosecution claims her actions were premeditated, while the defense argues profound mental illness dictated her behavior.

During his testimony, Patrick shared observations of his ex-wife’s deteriorating state after she started taking Seroquel. He reported significant weight loss, deepening depression, and troubling suicidal ideation, describing her descent as a “big spiral.”

When asked about Lindsay’s condition post-medication, Patrick responded somberly, “Awful.” He elaborated, noting, “That was really where her big spiral started. She started to lose a lot of weight, and she became very depressed, and she was having a really hard time.”

Patrick also testified that Lindsay told him she was experiencing intrusive thoughts about harming their children, although she denied having a plan and said the thoughts disturbed her.

“I never saw Lindsay harm the kids,” he told jurors.

Margaret McLean, a former criminal prosecutor and trial attorney who teaches law at Boston College’s Carroll School of Management, said Patrick’s measured delivery did little to conceal the anguish of a father being forced to retrace the months preceding his children’s deaths.

“I think his demeanor on the stand is really quite clinical. He’s telling it as it is,” McLean told News Media. “You can see the anguish within this man’s eyes, his facial expressions. You can tell he’s anguished up there, and it’s a horrible thing to have to relive and talk about.”

McLean said Patrick appeared to be compartmentalizing his emotions as he listened carefully to the questions and provided straightforward answers.

“He’s got to get through this,” she said. “He’s got to listen to the questions and provide the answers as best he can, and I think that he’s doing that.”

Patrick testified that he was not concerned for the children’s safety when Lindsay first shared that the intrusive thoughts were telling her to hurt herself as well as her children. Moments after discussing the thoughts, he said, she could be seen making the children lunch, playing with them or preparing them for bed.

Patrick told jurors that he became alarmed after Lindsay was prescribed 13 psychiatric medications in the months prior to the murders and that he pushed for an in-person appointment because he believed there was a “disconnect” between the seriousness of her condition and the brief telehealth sessions she was receiving.

“It seemed like most of her telehealth appointments were pretty quick, and there just wasn’t, like, a lot of attention,” he said.

Patrick also described taking Lindsay to hospital emergency departments and helping her enter McLean Hospital after she continued expressing suicidal thoughts.

He testified that he “would have paid anything” if insurance had become an obstacle to keeping her hospitalized.

The testimony could leave jurors asking whether the warning prompted an adequate response, McLean said, while cautioning against placing blame on Patrick or family members who may not have understood the severity of the risk.

“So many people don’t understand mental health today, so I’m not blaming him at all,” McLean said. “Anybody might have done what he did, but that’s the part that scared me.”

Patrick’s testimony followed starkly different opening statements from prosecutors and the defense.

Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham told jurors that Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, were “deliberately and meticulously killed” by their mother on Jan. 24, 2023.

Buckingham alleged that Clancy deliberately sent Patrick from their Duxbury home to pick up medication and takeout food, giving herself enough time to strangle each child with an exercise band before attempting to kill herself.

McLean said Buckingham gave jurors a “roadmap of cold, calculated intent” while humanizing each child’s interests and focusing on the time and physical effort required to carry out three separate strangulations.

“The prosecution did that because she [Buckingham] wants the jury to remember that the act of strangulation takes time and physical effort,” McLean said. “It requires a conscious choice to continue three separate times.”

The Commonwealth’s strategy, she said, is to reject the defense’s bid that Clancy suffered a sudden psychotic break and instead portray her as organized, purposeful and controlled.

During opening statements, defense attorney Kevin Reddington conceded that Clancy killed the children but argued that the only meaningful dispute is what was happening inside her mind.

“She knows that she killed these children,” Reddington told jurors. “The issue for consideration is what was going on in that woman’s mind.”

McLean described the concession as a calculated move by a veteran trial attorney.

“By doing that, he is attempting to strip the prosecution of their shock value and force the jury to look purely at Lindsay Clancy’s mental capacity,” she said.

Reddington argued that Clancy had no motive to kill children she had loved and nurtured. He also displayed graphic hospital photographs showing Clancy with injuries to her neck and wrists.

McLean said the defense was framing Clancy’s paralysis “not as a consequence of a crime, but as the tragic final symptom of a complete postpartum psychotic break.”

Clancy, a former labor and delivery nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital, has pleaded not guilty to three counts each of murder and strangulation. Her attorneys do not dispute that she killed the children but argue that she lacked criminal responsibility because of severe postpartum psychosis.

Judge William Sullivan told jurors that the Commonwealth must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Clancy was criminally responsible when the children were killed.

“It’s going to be black and white for some people, gray area for other people,” McLean said. “It is going to be one of the hardest things that this jury, or any jury, will ever have to decide.”

Conor McGregor teased at a potential “last dance” in the ring after a dramatic knee injury abruptly halted his much-anticipated comeback against Max Holloway at UFC 329.

The bout took a turn just 1:09 in, when McGregor’s right knee gave way following a jump kick. The injury’s severity was undeniable, prompting an immediate stoppage as the fighter’s awkward landing made continuing impossible.

This fight marked his first appearance in the octagon in five years.

Currently, the famous MMA star is navigating the recovery process and faces surgery to repair a torn ACL and meniscus, an unfortunate setback that will sideline him for several months.

Nevertheless, the Irish icon hinted at a return timeline, suggesting in a social media update on Monday that fans might see him back in action as soon as next July.

“What was to be a generational beating is now to be reset,” McGregor wrote on an Instagram post. “IFW 2027 The Last Dance.” 

The post also included a video of him before the UFC 329 bout warming up inside the locker room. 

IFW refers to International Fight Week, which will likely take place in July next year. 

The “last dance” reference that McGregor made was to the final fight of his exclusive contract with the UFC, though he has not ruled out signing a new deal with the promotion once his current one expires. 

UFC CEO Dana White told reporters recently that he expected McGregor to be out for a year. 

“Conor McGregor is out for a year,” he bluntly said during a press conference for a Zuffa boxing event.

It’s unclear who McGregor’s next fight would be against, but another run at Holloway has been floated as a possibility with the two currently 1-1 against each other.

Kaitlan Collins defended herself robustly against President Trump’s recent remarks, where he likened her to transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. The comparison was made during the high-profile White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Following the event, Collins decided to break her silence with a candid admission. The president had remarked that Collins reminded him of the viral sensation known as the “Bud Light girl,” even sharing a series of images juxtaposing their faces.

In a conversation with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show, Collins reflected, “It seems my receiving an award truly unsettled him,” she remarked on Monday night.

“In such situations, I believe it’s crucial to redirect focus onto the work itself, the inquiries posed, and the evasive responses we often encounter,” she added.

Collins was among several journalists honored at the dinner, receiving an award for her consistently probing and critical reporting on the President’s actions and policies.

During his speech Friday night, Trump took time to focus on Collins and her success.

‘I want to personally congratulate CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on receiving her award. It was all about me. It was a fake, she shouldn’t get the award, it was a fake. But I didn’t mind,’ he riffed.

Collins insisted the incident serves as a reminder that ‘when he is insulting me or when he is criticizing me about the question I asked or the reporting that I did, that he was so angry about in this moment.’

‘It’s not really about me and I don’t want it to be about my reaction. I think if you let it become about that, then it becomes a back-and-forth between the two of us,’ she added.

It also comes with the territory for the CNN host, who also often spars with Trump in the Oval Office.

‘That happens pretty regularly inside the Oval Office. This is just a bigger venue where it was happening,’ she said of the insults at the dinner. 

Collins noted that it didn’t appear the joke went over well in the room when Stewart asked if the President was ‘bombing as hard as it appeared on the TV.’

She said that despite the event being packed with Trump’s allies and cabinet members, it was ‘so quiet in the room during the president’s remarks.’ 

‘Because of how much they respect him,’ quipped Stewart.

Collins responded, asking: ‘Who’s to say?’

The president has frequently sparred with Collins in Oval Office press conferences, and he took several shots at her during his remarks Friday night.

‘I thought Kaitlan had really made it big with a major new sponsorship,’ Trump said of Collins.

‘But then I informed her that it wasn’t her on the Bud Light can, it was Dylan Mulvaney.’

Mulvaney has been open with her fans about her facial feminization surgery during her transition from male to female. She also starred in her autobiographical Off-Broadway show ‘The Least Problematic Woman in the World’ in 2025.

Bud Light suffered a huge drop in sales in 2023 after Mulvaney shared images of herself with a custom beer can as part of a marketing campaign, which also marked her first full year transitioning.

The promotion detonated a backlash that quickly grew into a full-scale boycott, fueled by conservative outrage, which was amplified across social media and right-wing news outlets.

Trump then repeated a previous criticism of Collins – that she allegedly does not smile.

‘She’s a young, attractive woman, but she never smiles. I said, ”Kaitlan do you ever smile? Smile!’ You have a nice position, you’re at CNN fake news. You should be a happy person.” So smile, Kaitlan! Just smile.’ 

On Sunday, Trump shared an image of Collins’s face superimposed on Mulvaney’s body in the viral Bud Light advert that catapulted the trans influencer to notoriety in April 2023.

His infamous endorsement of the US-brewed beer triggered nationwide boycotts and a massive conservative backlash that the brand is only just recovering from.

Collins, responding to the first attack by Trump on Friday, wrote online: ‘The second best part of last night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner was receiving an award from my friend and mentor, @wolfblitzer.’

She then added, ‘the first was reminding everyone why the First Amendment—and asking uncomfortable questions that people in power don’t like—matters,’ an apparent poke at Trump’s attack.

Trump’s clashes with Collins have been ongoing for many years.

Earlier this week, Semafor reported that CNN leadership and staff are ‘furious’ with Trump for the comments and the network’s executives and leadership are now discussing potentially bailing on next year’s dinner. 

The network itself defended Collins and its entire team when reached by The Daily Mail Friday for comment.

‘Kaitlan Collins is an exceptional, trusted journalist being honored tonight for her depth of knowledge and the context she provides to audiences all over the world,’ they said. 

‘She reports every day from the White House and the field with real strength and tenacity and skillfully brings that reporting to the anchor chair and CNN platforms every day. We stand by her to the fullest extent.’

Authorities have identified a young woman who was discovered lifeless in the waters near La Jolla Shores Beach in San Diego as a former college soccer player, sparking a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, emergency teams were alerted to an unresponsive individual seen floating in shallow water, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. The woman, Bryn Waite, was declared deceased at the scene.

The tragic discovery was made near the Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier, as noted by FOX 5 San Diego.

The discovery was reported by a passerby, prompting a swift response from San Diego Fire-Rescue lifeguards and officers. The San Diego Police Department has now taken the lead in the ongoing investigation.

The Medical Examiner identified the woman as Waite and said her cause and manner of death remain pending investigation by the San Diego Police Department. The office listed her place of injury as “Ocean – Undetermined” and said the date and time of injury are unknown.

Originally from Anchorage, Alaska, Waite played defender at Central Washington University during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. She appeared in 15 games, making eight starts, and tallied two assists over 723 career minutes. Waite earned Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honors in 2019.

Friends told The California Post that Waite had been living in San Diego and had recently gotten engaged.

“I only met Bryn a couple of times, but each time she was incredibly sweet, genuinely kind and had such a beautiful spirit,” one friend told the outlet.

“She had a warmth about her that made people feel comfortable and cared for,” the friend said. “It’s clear that the light she carried touched so many lives. She will be deeply missed.”

Another friend, who said she knew Waite through church and had seen her recently, described her as “kind and sweet.”

“She listened and loved,” the friend told the Post. “She is leaving behind friends and family that will miss her dearly.”

The friend added that Waite “loved animals and the beach.”

Waite’s public Instagram account included photos from Joshua Tree National Park and other travels. Her final post, shared three days before she was found, featured a nighttime photo with the caption, “It only gets better.”

Investigators have not said how Waite ended up in the water or whether foul play is suspected. The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has not released an estimated time of death, and authorities have not said whether Waite had been reported missing before her body was discovered.

On a notable Monday, Abdul El-Sayed, a Democratic contender for the Michigan Senate seat, stood firm on a controversial comment he had made about Senator John Fetterman from Pennsylvania during their last debate before the upcoming primary election.

Throughout his campaign against Representative Haley Stevens of Michigan, El-Sayed has been vocal about his strong opposition to Israel. During the debate, a past Zoom meeting remark was highlighted: El-Sayed had labeled Fetterman, a committed advocate of Israel, as an “ogre” whom he figuratively wished to see “on a pike.”

Moderating the discussion, Roop Raj from Fox 2 News, Detroit, noted, “That statement seemed to rattle many and brought up a significant issue regarding the tone you’ve been criticized for in this race.”

Raj then posed a direct question, “Do you have any regrets about the comments you’ve made?” offering El-Sayed an opportunity to retract his previous harsh words.

El-Sayed, a former health official, instead of backtracking, reinforced his critique of the Pennsylvania senator, showing no signs of backing down from his stance.

“I was referring to a guy named John Fetterman, who’s a senator from Pennsylvania who has done terrible things,” El-Sayed said.  

“He got elected on a set of values and is now completely throwing those values in the mud,” the Senate hopeful continued.

“And I do think it’s important for any senator in Michigan to have a relationship with folks who are in the US Senate, and if those folks are not actually acting in accordance with what they got elected on, I think it’s important for all of us to have an honest opinion about what we’re going to do to make sure that our Senate looks like the people it represents.”

During the Zoom call with Democratic donors, audio of which was obtained by Politico, El-Sayed argued that Fetterman should face a primary challenge in 2028 and, if successful, it would serve as a warning to Democrats who don’t tow the party line.  

“Primarying people like John Fetterman, I have no problem to do that,” he said on the call. “Ideally you put one ogre on a pike, and then everyone else gets the message, and all of a sudden starts to sound a lot different.” 

Fetterman, who is 6 feet 8 inches tall and has often been mocked over his physical appearance, responded by telling the outlet: “I pick being Senator Shrek over being the Pontiac Platner any day.” 

Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary election will be held on August 4.

In Massachusetts, a somber murder trial unfolded as a mother, accused of the unthinkable—strangling her three young children—broke down in tears. The courtroom was gripped by emotional testimony delivered by her ex-husband.

Lindsay Clancy, age 35, stands trial for the alleged murder of her three children: five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson, and eight-month-old Callan. The chilling events transpired in their Duxbury home in January 2023.

While Clancy does not dispute the tragic deaths, she has entered a plea of not guilty.

She argues that she was not mentally responsible at the time due to suffering from postpartum psychosis, which she claims was exacerbated by a potent mix of medications prescribed for her depression.

Her attempt to end her own life failed, yet it resulted in life-altering consequences, leaving her paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair.

Her murder trial opened on Monday with the defense and the prosecution presenting vastly different descriptions of Clancy and her actions on the day she killed her children.

The prosecution argued the killings were intentional and well planned, while Clancy’s lawyers claimed she was suffering a mental health crisis. 

Her ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, was the first witness called to the stand, where he often became overwhelmed with emotion while talking about his children. 

‘Cora was into princesses. She had a lot of friends. She just liked taking care of people,’ he said while becoming choked up and breathing heavily.

Speaking about Dawson, the grieving father said: ‘He was into firefighters and trucks. He liked Paw Patrol.’

When asked to describe eight-month-old Callan, he said: ‘He was a happy baby.’

As Patrick spoke, his ex-wife grabbed a tissue and covered her face with her hair.

Patrick, who has since remarried, has publicly forgiven Clancy and is expected to testify in her defense.

He has filed a wrongful death lawsuit accusing multiple doctors and healthcare providers of overmedicating his wife and causing her to spiral out of control.

On the stand, Patrick then described his final moments in the house before he left to pick up the takeout food that Clancy had ordered on the day of the murders.

‘I came upstairs, I took Callan for a minute. I rocked him by my knees, kissed Cora on the head, and I said I’ll be right back,’ Patrick said.

He said Dawson was eating chicken nuggets on the couch when he left.

When Patrick returned from collecting the food, Clancy had strangled the children with exercise bands, then used multiple methods to try to end her own life.

In his opening statements, Clancy’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, described her as a loving mother who struggled with mental illness. 

He displayed graphic images of Clancy’s injuries to push back on the state’s previous comments that it was a ‘fake suicide attempt.’

‘You’re going to hear evidence that she flung and threw herself out the window, striking her head on the ground, causing what is known as a Jefferson fracture of her neck,’ he said.

‘She shattered, exploded her thoracic spine. Shattered her cervical spine first disc. Broke every rib.’

The images included photos of Clancy’s cuts on her neck and wrist, as well as photos of her in the hospital.

The Daily Mail is not reproducing them because of their disturbing nature. Other images showed splattered blood around the house. 

However, the prosecution used its opening statement to argue that Clancy was not suffering psychosis when she killed her children.

‘This is not a case about the Lindsay Clancy that sits before you today. This case is about the Lindsay Clancy on January 24, 2023, at the time of the crimes,’ said Plymouth Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham.

‘This was not a woman in the throes of psychosis on January 24, 2023. This was a woman who acted intentionally, rationally and swiftly to achieve a very specific goal. To kill.

‘The evidence will show you she was not psychotic that day.’

Patrick testified that Clancy started showing signs of anxiety in September 2022, about a month before she was supposed to return to work after giving birth to Callan.

He said that she did not exhibit signs that made him want to commit her to a psychiatric facility, but added she was under a lot of stress.

Patrick also testified that  Clancy told him she started experiencing thoughts of hurting their children and herself, and when she began a new medication in December 2022, she began to spiral.

‘That was really where her big spiral started. She started to lose a lot of weight, and she became very depressed. She was having a really hard time,’ Patrick said.

‘She described thoughts of hurting the kids or them having some sort of ailment.’

‘She was very nervous that when Cora had a stomach ache, she became overly worried that she had a liver problem or something much more dramatic than it was.’

He added, ‘I never saw Lindsay harm the kids.’
