Iran Retaliates: Escalating Tensions in Gulf as Missiles Target Kuwait Following US Attacks

0

WASHINGTON — On Tuesday, Iran ramped up its offensive against U.S. allies in the Persian Gulf by launching new attacks on Kuwait. This escalation came just hours after American forces executed their 10th consecutive night of airstrikes on Iranian soil.

Air raid sirens blared across Kuwait as regional sources reported that Iranian missiles and drones targeted facilities linked to the United States, as well as vital infrastructure within the emirate. Kuwaiti officials have yet to disclose casualty numbers or provide a comprehensive assessment of the damage incurred.

In response to the attacks, the Kuwaiti Army issued a statement indicating that their air defenses were actively engaging the incoming threats. “The General Staff of the Army notes that if explosion sounds are heard, they are the result of the air defense systems intercepting the hostile attacks,” the statement detailed.

The army further advised residents to “adhere to the security and safety instructions issued by the competent authorities,” emphasizing the importance of public compliance during such heightened threats.

This surge in hostilities follows recent announcements from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which confirmed a fresh series of strikes targeting Iranian assets. These military actions were in retaliation for the recent loss of four American service members in the region.

President Trump has vowed Iran will “pay many times over” for the killings of US troops, and directed the Pentagon to intensify operations.

Tuesday’s retaliation was not limited to Kuwait.

Iran also struck Bahrain and Jordan, while regional tensions mounted after renewed threats to commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and an announcement by Yemen’s Houthis of a planned naval blockade targeting Saudi Arabia.

Jacksonville Police Seek Suspects in 12-Year-Old’s Shooting

0

A 12-year-old is on the mend after being admitted to the hospital following a shooting incident Sunday evening at Clanzel T. Brown Park, as per reports from the sheriff’s office.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Authorities from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office are on the hunt for the shooter involved in a Sunday night incident in which a young boy was shot. The incident occurred close to 9 p.m. at Clanzel T. Brown Park, near the confluence of Moncrief Road and West 35th Street.

Law enforcement confirmed that the young boy was hospitalized and is now in the process of recovery.

The sheriff’s office released details indicating that a group of youngsters gathered at the park that night. Allegedly, a portion of this group temporarily left, returning armed. An altercation between the split factions is believed to have subsequently resulted in the boy receiving a gunshot wound to the leg.

District 10 City Councilwoman Ju’Coby Pittman, who oversees this Jacksonville area, expressed belief in the efficacy of city measures to reduce such violence by expanding recreational activities for kids and teens throughout the summer break.

“I think they’re looking for something they can call their own, but they don’t realize how dangerous those pop-ups are,” Pittman said about the recent cases of teen gatherings ending in violence.

At Clanzel T. Brown Park, there is a playground, swimming pool, covered basketball courts and a Boys and Girls Club. Now, she says it’s up to the people responsible for this kind of violence to start taking responsibility for themselves.

“We have to continue to do what we do, but we also have to get the kids to take responsibility that their actions could endanger someone,” said Pittman. “I don’t want just because they’re out of school for that to be an excuse.”

She says that parents and guardians can also help by making sure they’re aware of what their kids are getting into, especially while they’re on summer break.

“You gotta know what your children are doing, you know what I mean?” Pittman said. “Especially at 12 years old.”

No arrests have been made at this time. JSO is asking anyone who might have information regarding what happened to call their tips line at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS (8477).

Tropical Storm Bertha Approaches: Millions Urged to Prepare

0

As Tropical Storm Bertha intensifies near the Gulf Coast, it zeroes in on a potential direct impact, particularly targeting regions like New Orleans this week.

Emerging as the second named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, Bertha formed just off Florida’s coast around 7 PM ET on Monday. Meteorological forecasts suggest it will take a path towards Louisiana and Texas soon thereafter.

In anticipation of Bertha’s approach, tropical storm warnings are now in effect across coastal areas of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Experts warn that these areas could face severe flooding, gusty winds, and dangerous surf conditions affecting millions.

The storm is expected to unleash up to eight inches of rain along with winds ranging from 40 to 60 mph across the Gulf region. This includes impacting parts of the Florida Panhandle and metropolitan zones like Mobile, New Orleans, and Houston.

According to meteorologists at AccuWeather, Bertha could make landfall as early as Wednesday night. Its probable trajectory suggests a significant impact near the eastern parts of Orleans Parish, encompassing New Orleans East, the Lower Ninth Ward, and areas adjacent to Lake Pontchartrain as well as the eastern banks of the Mississippi River.

Currently, Bertha’s exact path is uncertain, with potential tracks showing it may stay at sea longer, resulting in a stronger storm.

Lead Hurricane Expert Alex DaSilva said in a statement: ‘A “hug-the-coast” scenario would keep overall winds weaker, however, heavy to flooding rainfall would increase along the central Gulf Coast before spreading inland as the storm loses wind intensity.’

The AccuWeather team added that storm surges, where sea levels rise sharply, could reach as high as three feet for a stretch of more than 400 miles from Florida to western Louisiana.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said: ‘A Storm Surge Watch means there is a possibility of life-threatening inundation, from rising water moving inland from the coastline, in the indicated locations during the next 48 hours.’

Officials added that the risk for boaters and those living along the coast could be severe this week, with Bertha capable of capsizing and damaging vessels as it strengthens and moves west.

As of 9am ET Tuesday morning, Tropical Storm Bertha had grown to carry sustained winds of 50mph and was just south of Florida’s Panama City.

Spaghetti models for Bertha show the storm twisting toward the northwest over the next day, moving closer to the Gulf Coast and spinning directly into Louisiana’s Black Bay.

A spaghetti model shows the different possible paths a tropical storm or hurricane might take, based on predictions from multiple weather computer programs.

Each line represents one model’s guess about where the storm could go. If the lines are close together, it means most models agree on the path, and the prediction is more certain.

Meteorologists noted that the Gulf may be spared a severe impact of the storm thanks to extreme wind shear blowing south from the northern US, which is slamming into Bertha and pushing thunderstorms away from the shore.

However, these winds may also push Bertha farther south, giving the relatively weak tropical storm a chance to strengthen into a bigger storm by using the warm waters of the Gulf as fuel.

‘That would likely allow the storm to strengthen much more because its center would remain over the warm waters of the open Gulf for a longer period,’ DaSilva added in a statement.

‘Strengthening to perhaps a high-end tropical storm or hurricane would be possible in this case.’

This potential storm path would likely take Bertha toward the Texas coast, putting several communities which recently dealt with deadly flash floods in danger yet again.

AccuWeather Meteorologist Breanna Grill added: ‘The Texas Hill Country may be especially vulnerable to downpours due to saturated ground and infrastructure damaged by the catastrophic flooding last week.’

One year ago, the Texas Hill Country was devastated by a Fourth of July flood which killed over 130 people, including many young children at a local summer camp.

The National Weather Service has warned that flash flooding is expected wherever Bertha strikes this week, particularly in urban areas.

Flash flooding is a sudden, rapid flooding that happens within a few minutes to a few hours during heavy rain.

According to the NWS, it often occurs when water rises quickly in low-lying areas, streams, or in cities where it cannot drain away fast enough.

This often catches people by surprise with little or no warning to get to safety. Forecasters have warned that this makes flash flooding one of the most dangerous types of flooding.

Urgent Recall: Allergy Medication Linked to Potentially Life-Threatening Cross-Contamination

(NEXSTAR) – An urgent recall has been issued for several batches of a popular allergy medication after it was potentially mixed with a different drug, posing a risk of life-threatening reactions for certain users.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has reported that Unique Pharmaceutical Laboratories is voluntarily recalling four lots of cetirizine hydrochloride tablets due to the risk of cross-contamination.

Cetirizine hydrochloride, a widely used allergy medicine, is effective in alleviating symptoms such as sneezing, a runny or itchy nose, itchy throat, and irritated eyes, according to Medline Plus.

The contamination was suspected to involve ranitidine, an antihistamine that the Cleveland Clinic notes is often utilized to reduce stomach acid production in cases of ulcers or heartburn.

However, some consumers may be hypersensitive to the ingredients in ranitidine, the recall notice explains. They may experience “serious adverse events, including severe hypersensitivity reactions and anaphylaxis.” This could lead to low blood pressure, difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling in the throat and face, itchy skin, hives, or even loss of consciousness, “which are all life-threatening.”

A pharmacy technician reportedly discovered the issue, noting a red dot on the cetirizine hydrochloride tablets and others that were discolored.

There have been no reported adverse incidents reported as a result of the medication, the recall notice says.

The recalled medication was distributed in 100-tablet bottles nationwide by Rising Pharma Holdings Inc. The below table outlines which bottles of the tablets have been recalled:

In 2020, the FDA called for ranitidine to be removed from the market amid a safety investigation. Some products were found to have low levels of N-Nitrosodimethylamine, or NDMA, which can cause cancer. Last year, a reformulated ranitidine tablet was approved by the FDA, marking its return.

Pamela Smart Fights to Overturn 1990 Murder Conviction Tied to Student Conspiracy

0

Pamela Smart, convicted in 1991 for conspiring with her teenage lover to murder her husband, is seeking a new trial.

Her legal team made an appearance in a New Hampshire courtroom on July 20, urging the court to advance her latest habeas corpus petition, initially filed in January. They raised issues with the conduct of her original trial, as reported by The Associated Press.

The attorneys argued that prosecutors led the jury astray by providing transcripts of covertly taped conversations following the death of Gregg Smart in 1990. They claimed jurors were misled into believing certain words were audibly present on the tapes when they were not.

For instance, in the statement “you had your husband killed,” the word “killed” was reportedly not actually heard, according to her legal team.

“Modern science confirms what common sense has always told us: when people are handed a script, they inevitably hear the words they are shown,” argued Pamela’s attorney Matthew Zernhelt earlier this year, as noted by the AP. “Jurors were not evaluating the recordings independently — they were being directed toward a conclusion, and that direction decided the verdict.”

He added in court, according to the The Concord Monitor, that the decision to provide the transcripts could have unfairly influenced the jury, saying, “No one should be sitting in a life-without-parole sentence where the conviction resulted from untrue or inaccurate evidence.”

Zernhelt pointed to a forensic study that found that providing a transcript can lead listeners to believe they hear what is written down, even if that is not accurate.

“There’s no absolute truth about what’s on the tapes,” he told the court, according to the AP. “Nothing decipherable is on the tapes. But when you tell someone what they’re hearing, you set this expectation … and they will hear it.”

Pamela’s attorneys also argued that the intense media attention surrounding the case could have prejudiced the jury.

It was the first murder trial to be televised nationally, per The Concord Monitor, and went on to inspire the popular 1995 movie To Die For starring Nicole Kidman.

Though Pamela did not appear in court herself, she watched the proceedings from the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women where she is serving out a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Prosecutors Argue Defense Position is Not Based on Facts

In response to the arguments laid out by the defense, prosecutors noted that many of the issues had been raised in Pamela’s prior appeals and had already been resolved by the New Hampshire Supreme Court, according to The Associated Press.

They also pointed out that during the initial trial the judge had instructed jurors to rely on the recording rather than the transcript if there was any doubt about what they were hearing.

Assistant Attorney General John A. Drennan also argued that Pamela’s attorneys had failed to explain how the transcripts influenced the verdict, according to WMUR.

As he explained, ”The petitioner does not tell us in what way this affects the verdict, how it was problematic.”

He also questioned the study presented by the defense and argued that the contentions made by the defense were not supported by facts.

Pamela’s defense attorneys are hoping the judge will grant them an evidentiary hearing to explore the issue further. The judge is expected to make a ruling within 30 to 60 days, per the AP.

Her aunt Dorothy Keville was in court to support her niece. She is still hopeful that Pamela will someday be granted parole.

“I would like to see her with a bracelet and for her to come home and take care of her mother, my sister,” Keville told WMUR. “I’m the matriarch of the family, and I still feel a lot of pain.”

For years, Pamela has unsuccessfully tried to have her sentence reduced to life with the possibility of parole.

What Was Pamela Smart Convicted Of?

Pamela was working at a media job at a local high school and preparing to celebrate her first anniversary with husband Gregg, when prosecutors said she convinced the high school student she was having an affair with to kill her husband, according to Oxygen’s Dateline: Secrets Uncovered.

The 16-year-old student Billy Flynn recruited Patrick Randall and two other friends to help him carry out the plot. Then, on May 1, 1990, Billy shot Gregg in the head in what they hoped would look like a robbery gone wrong.

“I said ‘God, forgive me,’” Billy recalled through tears on the stand. “I pulled the trigger.”

At the time, Pamela contended that Billy had acted on his own after she cut off the relationship.

All four teens were convicted and later released from prison after serving their time.

Pamela remains the only person connected to the plot to still be behind bars.

In 2024, Pamela accepted full responsibility for her husband’s death for the first time.

“For me that was really hard, because going into those places, in those spaces is where I found myself responsible for something I desperately didn’t want to be responsible for, my husband’s murder,” she said in a video statement, according to The Associated Press. “I had to acknowledge for the first time in my own mind and my own heart how responsible I was, because I had deflected blame all the time, I think, almost as if it was a coping mechanism, because the truth of being so responsible was very difficult for me.”

Tom Holland Affectionately Names Zendaya His Wife Post-Wedding Ceremony

Tom Holland seems to have conjured up Zendaya‘s latest role with just a few words.

Almost five months after tying the knot, Holland affectionately called his longtime Spider-Man co-star his wife—their first public acknowledgment of their marriage—while chatting about a hypothetical getaway to Greece.

“My wife would be a great choice,” Holland remarked during a sneak peek of The Dish podcast episode set to debut on July 22. He humorously contemplated choosing their The Odyssey co-star, Matt Damon, instead, joking, “It’d be awkward if I said, ‘Sorry babe, I’m taking Matt instead.’”

Since their romance became public in 2021, Holland and Zendaya have maintained a tight lid on their personal lives. Nonetheless, the Cherry star often shares playful nods to their relationship during press events.

In an interview that also featured fan favorites like Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson discussing The Odyssey, Holland was questioned about fan theories surrounding Zendaya’s portrayal of Athena.

“Did Athena love Odysseus romantically?” Holland considered in an interview with Wired posted July 16. “No, because she’s married to me.”

Zendaya Dazzles in Black, White, and Red During ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Press Tour

Zendaya may not have spider powers, but her fashion sense is definitely sharp right now.

Emerging from her whirlwind “The Drama” press tour, the renowned actress and her stylist Law Roach have drawn fashion inspiration from the timeless wedding adage: something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.

Though no strangers to making heads turn on the red carpet with themes like the tennis-focused “Challengers” or the high-tech vibes of “Dune,” Zendaya and Roach’s latest style endeavor for her film “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” continues their trend of thematic dressing.

In her past outings for the beloved Spider-Man franchise, Zendaya has previously embraced arachnid inspirations. This time, however, she channels the web-slinger himself—played by her husband, Tom Holland—with a striking color palette of black, white, and red, carried stylishly from Spain to London.

Take a look below to explore the eye-catching ensembles the star has donned while bringing her latest project to life.

June 15

Zendaya kicked off the press tour in Madrid, wearing a black fringed Christian Cowan fall 2026 dress featuring an asymmetric high-low hemline.

She paired the look with diamond-and-sapphire Stefere earrings, a Rolex Lady-Datejust watch and her trusty Christian Louboutin So Kate pumps.

Later in the same day, Zendaya traded black for red, wearing a mockneck dress by Spanish designer Ernesto Naranjo with the same wrist jewelry and a red version of her go-to heels.

June 17

Heading over to Amsterdam, Zendaya posed at a photo call in a black, white and red Louis Vuitton resort 2027 look that included a miniskirt, high-low jacket and white So Kates. She added Tiffany & Co. jewelry and her trusty Rolex.

That night, she attended a fan event at the premiere in a semi-sheer Alexander McQueen minidress with striking lace detail under a dramatic coat.

June 18

While doing interviews in London, she went more literal with a semi-sheer Rodarte dress featuring a bedazzled spider in a web.

Zendaya layered the puff-sleeved look over trousers, and went for the same watch and shoe combination.

June 22

In Berlin, Zendaya first went sporty, then sleek. She kicked off the day at a photo call in a Coach runway look that included a plaid midi skirt and a varsity-inspired top.

Later in the day, she showed off her abs in a custom Louis Vuitton black leather cropped vest and low-slung skirt. She paired the set with enormous spiderweb earrings by Lydia Courteille set with sapphires, aquamarines and tanzanites, along with a matching sapphire-and-aquamarine ring.

June 23

When Zendaya touched down in Rome, she fittingly dipped into the archives of two famous Italian brands.

She wore a vintage Versace red-and-blue look from the brand’s fall 1997 collection that showed a sliver of midriff and was covered in sparkles, adding additional bling by way of A.Jaffe diamond stud earrings.

That night, she went with a 1990 Giorgio Armani spiderweb-covered gown paired with Tiffany & Co. Elsa Peretti snake earrings.

June 24

In Paris, Zendaya kept things surprisingly casual. She stepped out during France’s heat wave in a vintage Spider-Man T-shirt — and nothing else.

Stylist Law Roach revealed that he purchased the oversized tee on eBay for $36.

June 25

From a simple tee to a vintage dream. Over in London, Zendaya stunned in a 1997 John Galliano slip dress covered in celestial artwork. She added bling with a body chain around her chest and back, including a massive spider web draped across her shoulder blades.

She added Tiffany & Co. hoop earrings to complete the look.

July 17

After taking a break to promote “The Odyssey,” which also stars Holland, Zendaya returned for a final push to the Spider-verse. She wore a shirt and pant set from The Row’s resort 2027 collection for a day of press in NYC.

July 17

At a NYC photo call, she wore a Vetements suit first modeled on the runway by Sharon Stone, along with diamond spiderweb earrings by Jacob & Co. and dramatic red eye makeup.

July 20

In Mexico City, Z went for gothic glamour in an Ashi Studio Couture black lace gown and an Elvira-esque bouffant and baby bangs.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” hits theaters July 31.

Ann Widdecombe Brutally Attacked: Hammer Assault Leaves Former MP Injured

0

In a shocking incident that unfolded on camera, Ann Widdecombe suffered a brutal attack where she was struck 21 times with a hammer in just two minutes, a court was informed today.

Accused of this heinous crime is 28-year-old Joshua Kerry, who allegedly entered the home of the former Tory minister and Brexit Party MEP in Dartmoor through an unsecured front door. The attack reportedly took place while she was having lunch in her kitchen.

Prosecutor Kashif Malik described how Kerry rummaged through Widdecombe’s handbag, took off with her wallet, and exited the premises, all within a mere 120 seconds.

Tragically, it was not until approximately 24 hours later that Widdecombe was discovered lying face down on her kitchen floor by her gardener.

Allegedly, Kerry was caught on a Ring doorbell camera arriving at the property in his red Vauxhall Corsa. Another camera in the hallway is said to have captured the violent assault on the politician with a hammer.

The 78-year-old was eating lunch shortly before a pre-arranged Zoom interview that was due to be broadcast live on Channel 5’s Matt Allwright show at 12.50pm on July 8.

Prosecutors say Kerry drove 300 miles to Dartmoor from his home in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, and entered the property wearing gloves with a hammer hidden behind his back.

He is alleged to have confronted Miss Widdecombe as she ate, asking her: ‘Don’t suppose you have bank cards and ID?’

He then struck her 21 times on the top of her head.

The 28-year-old is said to have then tipped her from her chair on to the kitchen floor before stealing her wallet.

Just two minutes after entering the politician’s home, Kerry was back in his car and driving away from the scene, prosecutors say.

Around 24 hours later, on July 9, Miss Widdecombe’s gardener found her lying face-down on the kitchen floor with a severe head injury.

He had been asked to check on her by her personal assistant after she was unable to contact her. The front door was open and held back by a doorstop.

Paramedics were called to the property and confirmed she had died. Police arrived at 12.01pm.

After the red Vauxhall Corsa was traced to Rotherham, Kerry was arrested at his home at 9.07pm on suspicion of murder. He was later further arrested under the Terrorism Act.

Police searches of the property recovered a hammer and a pair of gloves from a bin, prosecutors said.

A mobile phone seized from the defendant allegedly contained photographs taken on the day of Miss Widdecombe’s murder showing her driving licence and bank cards, which prosecutors say were stolen after the attack.

Today Joshua Kerry spoke only to confirm his name and address when he appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

He did not enter a plea during the short hearing.

Kerry sat in a grey prison issue tracksuit with his arms folded as details of the case were read out by the prosecutor.

Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring directed that he appear later this afternoon for another preliminary hearing at the Old Bailey.

Mr Goldspring told Kerry: ‘You’re charged with an offence of murder which can only be dealt with in a crown court.’

He added: ‘You are therefore remanded into custody and sent to crown court.’

Immediately after the hearing Kerry was taken to a prison van to be transported to the Old Bailey.

Meanwhile his lawyer was taken in a police car with blue flashing lights to the Central Criminal Court ahead of a hearing due to take place at 3pm.

It came as the coroner in Ann Widdecombe’s inquest claimed the cause of her death is still yet to be established.

Senior coroner for Devon Philip Spinney said the ‘precise’ reason the former Tory minister died has not been confirmed, although she had ‘visible injuries’.

She was found dead at her rural property after becoming ‘uncontactable’, prompting a member of staff to carry out a welfare check at her Dartmoor home on July 9, the inquest heard.

Kerry arrived at Westminster Magistrates' Court around the same time the inquest into Miss Widdecombe's death opened

Kerry arrived at Westminster Magistrates’ Court around the same time the inquest into Miss Widdecombe’s death opened

A post-mortem examination has taken place but ‘at this stage the precise medical cause of death is yet to be established’, Mr Spinney said, as he opened, then adjourned, the inquest.

The coroner confirmed a post-mortem has taken place but said the medical cause of death has yet to be established.

Concerns were raised after she missed a media interview the previous day and subsequently proved uncontactable.

A statement from Coroner’s Officer Sarah Haworth said: ‘Concerns were raised that she was uncontactable and an employee who was due at the home address was asked to conduct a welfare check.

‘She was found to be unresponsive with visible injuries.

‘The post-mortem examination has taken place and at this stage of the process the precise medical cause of death has yet to be established.’

She was pronounced dead at the scene at 12.20pm on July 9.

Mr Spinney said he would suspend the inquest until the conclusion of criminal proceedings and added: ‘It is plain that Miss Widdecombe was much loved and greatly missed.

‘I’d like to offer my condolences to the family of Miss Widdecombe.’
