Embrace Daylight: New Study Reveals Key to Transforming Your Sleep Quality

0

Embracing the sunshine might just be the secret to dozing off quicker and enjoying more restful slumber. Recent research suggests that spending extra time soaking up bright daylight can help folks nod off earlier and experience deeper sleep at night.

In a compelling study led by scientists at the University of Manchester, it was discovered that adults exposed to brighter and more stable daylight throughout the day were more likely to hit the hay and rise with the sun. These individuals reported experiencing enhanced levels of deep sleep in the early hours of the night.

Detailed in the journal NPJ Biological Timing and Sleep, the research involved over 500 days of data collected from 89 adults. Participants wore light sensors along with sleep trackers and maintained daily sleep diaries, providing a rich trove of information for the study.

The study highlighted that individuals who basked in more intense daylight generally fell asleep and awoke earlier compared to those shielded from sunlight. Consistent exposure to bright light during the day also seemed to promote healthier sleep schedules and increased the amount of deep sleep enjoyed in the initial part of the night.

Jennifer Martin, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist and a professor at Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, noted that these findings are consistent with established sleep science. The research reaffirms the significant role that light plays in synchronizing the body’s internal clock.

“Light impacts human sleep through a specific pathway, starting with the eye,” Martin, who was not involved in the study, told Fox News Digital.

“When light hits specific cells in the retina, it communicates to the brain that it’s daytime, meaning we should be alert and active.”

Morning light is especially beneficial because it helps keep the body’s sleep-wake cycle consistent, Martin said. She recommends spending time outdoors early in the day when possible.

“Exposure to sunlight early in the day is really good for healthy sleep,” she said. “Regular morning light helps people feel sleepy around the same time each evening and build a strong sleep routine.”

Limiting bright light in the evening can also help improve sleep, Martin said.

She recommends avoiding bright light during the last couple of hours before bedtime and maintaining a consistent wake-up time each morning.

“Varying your wake time by more than about one hour can lead to feelings of ‘jet lag’ and contribute to trouble with regularly sleeping well,” Martin said.

She added that adults should aim for at least seven hours of sleep each night and seek help from a sleep specialist if sleep problems become chronic.

While the findings suggest brighter daytime light may support healthier sleep, the researchers said the study has several limitations.

They noted that the research found an association between daytime light exposure and sleep patterns but did not prove that one directly caused the other.

The researchers also measured light exposure using wrist-worn devices rather than at the eyes, where light directly influences the body’s internal clock, and did not account for factors such as physical activity or meal timing that could affect sleep.

Fox News Digital reached out to the study researchers for comment.

Madonna, 67, Captivates Global Audience with Show-Stopping World Cup Halftime Performance

0

In a move that sparked widespread debate, FIFA’s inaugural halftime show at the World Cup, featuring pop icons Madonna and Justin Bieber, left fans divided on Sunday. Despite the star power, many labeled the spectacle a ‘disaster’.

The event took place at MetLife Stadium, where soccer legends Lionel Messi from Argentina and Lamine Yamal from Spain were spotlighted alongside the music performance. Spain ultimately clinched a 1-0 victory against Argentina during extra time.

Kicking off the futuristic show, Madonna, at 67, performed her classic hit “Music” with the backups of Brazilian soccer greats Ronaldo Nazario and Ronaldinho, adding an unexpected layer of excitement to the event.

Madonna impressed in a full Saint Laurent ensemble, featuring a pink satin teddy jacket and corset, mini shorts, lace-up boots, and stockings. Her stylish outfit matched her lively demeanor as she warmly interacted with the soccer legends before their grand entrance onto the stadium field.

Smiling for their fans, the unusual trio posed on the pitch, creating a memorable moment amid the vibrant energy of the crowd.

Bieber, 32, made a starkly different impact on the crowd as he stepped out with nothing but a guitar to sing a World Cup themed version of his song, Everything Hallelujah.

The singer was bizarrely subbed onto the pitch by Jason Sudeikis, playing his manager alter-ego Ted Lasso.

The star looked relaxed as he casually walked onto the pitch before belting out his hit track, adding the final line, ‘it’s the World Cup, Hallelujah’ – with fans left baffled by his song choice.

One fan gave the damning verdict, ‘What a disaster this halftime show was. Pre-recorded stuff, no collaborations or surprising moments. Where was Madonna at the end? She could have sung a few lines with Shakira… everything was so weird. So much hype for nothing.’

Yet making clear the division, a second viewer wrote, ‘I dislike a lot of things that FIFA does… but THAT halftime show was pretty spectacular.’

Another wrote, ‘Who was behind the concept for that haltfime show? Chat GPT?’

Other fans wrote, ‘Madonna’s performance was the strangest thing ever, especially followed by the Muppets. The rest of the show was decent. I thought JB’s performance was the best of them all.’

‘Light, bright, positive energy. We needed that. Really tired of dark and angry performances.

‘It seemed like bieber was off the flow but when Shakira came up after – it all made sense!!!’

‘It was great! International and diverse, a positive message, family friendly, and soccer legends hanging with Madonna! Ronaldinho and Ronaldo probably couldn’t believe it!’

Bieber’s downbeat song choice was undoubtedly one of the major talking points of the performance, with one fan writing, ‘Justin Bieber was unfortunately the worst part of the World Cup halftime show.’

Another penned, ‘Justin Bieber Hallelujah but this was not the right song choice for the half time show.’

A third typed, ‘Buzz killer. Totally sucked . Why choose that song that nobody knows . Beyond me ….’ while another wrote, ‘terrible song choice.’

Others praised Bieber’s performance, writing, ‘Justin Bieber looked and sounded great at the World Cup halftime show today!

‘Glad he’s cleaned up his act!

‘Best performance. He knows how to switch people’s moods in a second. That’s extremely difficult to do, most performers couldn’t.’

Shakira returned to the World Cup stage as she flaunted her toned abs in a pink and yellow sequined bodysuit to perform her hit Dai Dai, with Burna Boy, while K-pop sensations BTS regaled the crowd with Dynamite.

Spain triumphed over Messi’s Argentina 1-0 – after a fraught second half which saw the teams play into 30 mins of extra time.

Ferran Torres netted the winning goal in the 106th minute – with a devastated Messi watching on as his World Cup career ended in heartbreak.

World Cup final day got off to a chaotic start at MetLife Stadium with fans forced to wait for hours outside of the venue amid reports of technological glitches scanning tickets and security staff unsure of how to manage the crowds.

The attendance of President Donald Trump meant that airport-style security measures were also being enforced for everyone making their way inside of the venue.

The game was set to be the most expensive to attend in the history of sport – on Sunday morning, the cheapest ticket available on most resale websites was starting at around $7,000.

FIFA encouraged fans to arrive early in order to participate in the World Cup closing ceremony, scheduled to begin around 90 minutes before the game itself kicks off.

But it is standard procedure for fans to arrive early for additional security checks whenever Trump attends a sporting event – and he has made it to plenty in his second term as President, ranging from the Ryder Cup to the Super Bowl.

Tom Selleck Embraces Relaxed Lifestyle, Wife Relieved

Following his departure from the long-running show “Blue Bloods,” Tom Selleck has opted for a more relaxed pace of life, choosing to savor life’s simpler pleasures. After over ten years of portraying Frank Reagan on the now-discontinued series, Selleck finally has the chance to devote more time to cherished family moments with his two children. While he hasn’t entirely bid farewell to the entertainment industry, it seems he’s exercising more discretion in selecting projects and how he invests his time. Though not officially retired, Selleck has notably reduced his workload since the conclusion of “Blue Bloods” in 2024, reportedly embracing a quieter lifestyle at home, much to the delight of his spouse, Jillie Mack.

“Tom’s gradually applying the brakes, much to the relief of those who care about him,” an insider shared with Closer Weekly. “For years, he was constantly on the go at the ranch, cruising on his ATV and taking on projects as if he were still in his 40s, but now he’s settling into a more relaxed pace,” the source continued. Having celebrated his 80th birthday in January 2025, Selleck, who has been married to Mack since 1987, has fans eager to see what the future holds. “I plan to continue working,” he conveyed to Parade towards the end of 2024. So, what’s in store for Selleck’s upcoming endeavors? He has a plan in motion.

Tom Selleck teased a new Jesse Stone project

Looking ahead, Tom Selleck is developing a new installment in the “Jesse Stone” series, discussing this project during a 2024 conversation with TV Insider. “It seems likely that I’ll have to write the script for another film. It wouldn’t be the last, as everyone loves Jesse. He’s an intriguing character, and it would be interesting to explore where he finds himself years later,” Selleck expressed. As of now, the film remains in pre-production without a defined cast or release date, but it’s a project that inspires him.

Despite his dedication to his profession — promising, “as long as the phone keeps ringing, I’ll keep working,” he shared with TV Insider — his well-being is paramount. “Jillie appreciates that he’s being more attentive to his health and taking it easy, something she’s encouraged him to do for years,” an insider confided to Closer. For Selleck, the forthcoming phase seems less about constant hustle and more about prioritizing relationships and passions that bring him joy.

17 American Heroes Fall in Iran War’s Unseen Battles: A Tribute to Aerial Sacrifice

0

BRIDGEWATER, New Jersey — On Saturday, the U.S. military confirmed the loss of two more service members as tensions with Iran continue to claim lives. By Sunday, a third fatality was added, bringing the overall number of American military deaths in the conflict to 17.

These casualties underline the complex and dangerous nature of modern warfare, where even without traditional ground confrontations, threats persist through the use of drones, missiles, and aerial attacks. With U.S. forces strategically placed throughout the Middle East, Iran’s escalated aggression has turned the region into a precarious hotspot even amid ongoing peace deliberations.

President Donald Trump holds firm that the conflict is crucial to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Despite the tragic news, he had not made a personal statement regarding the fresh incidents in Jordan, leaving the White House to release information from U.S. Central Command instead.

First fatalities came soon after the war started

In the conflict’s early days, specifically on February 28, an Iranian drone assault tragically claimed the lives of six American soldiers at a civilian port in Kuwait. The unit, originating from Iowa, specialized in supplies and logistics and was working unprotected in a shipping container setup when the unexpected attack occurred.

Additionally, an attack on March 1 targeting the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia resulted in the death of another soldier more than a week after sustaining injuries, further highlighting the ever-present threats faced by U.S. troops in the region.

Later in March, six service members were killed when a KC-135 refueling aircraft supporting U.S. military operations against Iran crashed in Iraq. The aircraft was in “friendly” airspace when an unspecified incident involving another aircraft took place, according to U.S. Central Command.

On Monday, the U.S. military said a Navy pilot died in a helicopter crash in the Arabian Sea. The Navy initially described the July 1 crash as an emergency landing and said there was “no indication the emergency was caused by hostile action.” The remaining three sailors aboard the helicopter were rescued.

On Saturday, the U.S. Central Command said two service members were killed in Jordan while defending against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks. The military said one U.S. service member is “currently” missing after the attack.

The military said as part of the most recent announcement that it was withholding additional information, including the names of the deceased, until 24 hours after families had been notified.

The deaths in the war are not limited to Americans.

Iranian authorities said at least 50 people have been killed and more than 500 wounded in U.S. strikes in the past three weeks, including eight killed in a strike on a bridge Friday.

People working on ships, as well as foreign workers and others in Gulf nations, Israel and Lebanon have also perished in the conflict.

Navigating Long Drives: Addressing Marital Tensions on Road Trips

0

DEAR ABBY: I’m a 56-year-old individual who has shared my life with my husband for 12 years. However, I’m less enthusiastic about the long journey—an hour and a half drive— to visit my husband’s grandchildren. I’ve accompanied him many times in the past but have decided I’d rather not continue. Children and babies just aren’t my cup of tea. Despite this, my husband persists in urging me to join him and seems puzzled by my reluctance. I wholeheartedly support his visits and encourage him to go without me, yet his constant insistence is starting to create a rift in our relationship. Am I in the wrong for wanting to opt out? — CHILD-FREE IN CALIFORNIA

DEAR CHILD-FREE: It’s possible your husband might share your lack of enthusiasm for that long drive, but he could be seeking your companionship to make the trip more bearable. Marriage often involves supporting each other through less-than-favorite activities out of love and commitment. While it’s unreasonable to expect you to accompany him every single time, it would be considerate and supportive to join him on his visits more often than not. A positive attitude can go a long way in these situations.

DEAR ABBY: My husband is currently serving a life sentence, though there’s a possibility of parole. He surrendered a year and a half ago for an offense committed 15 years back.

Recently, about seven months ago, I met someone new. This individual is deeply involved with his church and runs a ministry that provides meals to the homeless. At this point, I’m uncertain about where our relationship is headed. The guilt I carry is overwhelming at times. I would greatly appreciate your guidance. — CONFLICTED IN GEORGIA

DEAR CONFLICTED: It’s essential to have an open and honest discussion with your husband regarding your feelings and the new chapter in your life. Communicate to him that living as though you’re widowed for an indefinite number of years is something you find challenging. Together, you can decide the best path forward. Keep in mind, though, your new relationship is still in its early stages, and its future is not assured.

DEAR ABBY: Our friend “Leo” married a girl who treats him poorly. She degrades him in front of people about his finances, weight, looks, etc. They have been married only a couple of years and have no kids. Leo is a great person, and his mental health is getting beaten down daily. Should we say something to him? We want him to know we would support him if he wanted to divorce her. He has limited family — his friends are family. — STEPPING UP IN IDAHO

DEAR STEPPING UP: Because you and Leo’s other friends believe he is being abused, I see no reason to remain silent and pretend it isn’t happening. An intervention may be called for, as well as an opportunity to reinforce the message that you are all there for him regardless of what he chooses to do about his marriage.

Meghan Markle’s Heartfelt Revelations on Rejoining Royal Life: The True Motive Unveiled

0

My, how the times have shifted.

For years, there was a steady stream of criticism aimed at the British Royal Family. Accusations flew about Queen Camilla’s alleged misdeeds and claims about an insurmountable rift that would prevent Meghan and the kids from ever returning to the UK. But in a dramatic twist, things appear to be taking a new direction.

Rumors speculate that despite past grievances, Harry might be feeling dissatisfied with his life in America. While some suggest financial pressures, others point to deeper issues underpinning this change of heart.

In an exclusive reveal by Alison Boshoff for the Daily Mail, a source, admittedly critical of the couple, comments: ‘He probably never wanted to cut ties with his family. In the throes of passion for Meghan, he might have been too swept up to see clearly.’

Intriguingly, the messages emerging from Meghan’s circle seem to have had an abrupt shift.

Gone, it seems, are the impulses to mock the late Queen Elizabeth II with a deep curtsy and compare the British Royal Family to the Medieval Times theme park franchise.

Abandoned now are the kohl-rimmed eyes, gazing forlornly at Oprah Winfrey as Meghan levels accusations about race and claims that she denied help for her mental health.

Or that Kate made her cry.

Nope! Meghan is suddenly super encouraging of her husband’s wish to reconcile with his family and spend more time in the UK — again, despite reports that Meghan had no desire to ever set foot in her husband’s homeland again.

Abandoned now are the kohl-rimmed eyes, gazing forlornly at Oprah Winfrey as Meghan levels accusations about race and claims that she denied help for her mental health

Abandoned now are the kohl-rimmed eyes, gazing forlornly at Oprah Winfrey as Meghan levels accusations about race and claims that she denied help for her mental health

After six years of bleating that the British Royal Family was awful, that Queen Camilla had left ‘bodies in the street’ and, as recently as last year, telling the BBC that there was no way he could possibly bring Meghan and the children back to the UK – an explosive plot twist

Meghan is ‘all for rekindling with and reconnecting with Harry’s English side,’ one of his friends tells the Daily Mail.

Not only that: Meghan, ‘always lets [Harry] lead’ when it comes to dealing with his family, another Sussex insider tells People magazine — which is understood to be Meghan’s preferred outlet and one that has historically been very friendly to her.

Meghan’s stance appears to be a 180-degree turn for the ages. It’s in direct contradiction to the consistent messaging we’ve been getting from Camp Sussex since Megxit.

What seems even more telling is that this well-sourced People magazine cover story doesn’t even acknowledge Meghan’s complete about-face.

Then again, when you wear two faces, as I believe Meghan does, perhaps it’s felt there is no need to explain.

Resentment, rage and righteous indignation no longer hold. Meghan, reportedly, is now governed by more somber emotions, although none that resemble taking responsibility for the destruction in her and Harry’s wake.

No: Meghan, according to People, ‘would have felt “humiliated” watching the public back-and-forth’ over Harry’s security concerns on his recent UK trip.

Note that phrasing: Meghan ‘would have felt.’ It’s distancing language. Those close to her won’t admit weakness here.

The larger question, however, is what’s behind this tectonic shift in public statements and strategy.

Money, as stated, is surely a pressing concern.

The Sussexes simply don’t have the cash pouring in — Spotify, Lemonada and Netflix have all severed ties.

So attempting to work their way back into the royal fold, in contravention of the late Queen’s ‘no half-in, out-out’ directive, would ostensibly restore the royal stardust that made them so attractive in the Hollywood marketplace.

A less obvious motive, however, may be more to do with the Duke’s growing apathy with his life in America.

Harry, it seems, is over the drama. He is over being the prodigal son, lonely, aimless and largely jobless up in Montecito. Estranged perhaps forever from his brother, sister-in-law and their children.

King Charles is his only chance. And, as some reports have suggested, Harry’s best hope for reconciliation involves Meghan quieting down and maintaining a lower profile.

Publicly, they’ve been making appearances without each other. Harry was alone in the UK for most of his trip, with Meghan and the children joining at the last minute — and Meghan wasn’t photographed once, which nullifies her and Harry’s claims that the media just won’t leave them alone.

Harry showed up as an honoree at the Time100 Sports Gala solo in New York City on Thursday night.

Meghan celebrated her Emmy nomination for her cancelled Netflix show, ‘With Love, Meghan,’ on social media without mentioning her husband or including a photo of him.

But she appears to have alienated just about every heavy-hitter who has offered help or hiring in America: Ted Sarandos at Netflix, who was alleged in a savage Variety exposé to be so ‘fed up’ with Meghan that he wouldn’t get on the phone with her unless he had a lawyer on the line (Sarandos and the Sussexes’ attorney denied that); his wife, Nicole Avant, who is said to ‘hate’ Meghan; Kris Jenner and her famous daughters; Anna Wintour and too many more to count.

Right now, it seems, no one is more valuable than Harry — and nothing is more valuable than what he wants.

Surprising Truth: Why You Might End Up with Your Ex Again

A bold claim made by a woman has set social media abuzz, as she asserts that most individuals eventually reconcile with their ex-partners. This provocative statement has quickly gone viral, igniting widespread debate and dividing opinions across the internet.

In a video making rounds on popular social media sites, the woman expressed her belief that people often come to appreciate past relationships only after pursuing new ones. Her comments have sparked extensive discussions on the complexities of breakups, the nature of reconciliation, and the dynamics of modern dating.

Amassing thousands of views, the video has encouraged many to share personal anecdotes, while others have vocally challenged her views.

Lady explains why people return to their exes

Within the now-viral footage, she confidently stated, “At the end of the day everyone will go back to their ex. You will go back to your ex, I will go back to my ex. There’s nothing outside.”

Additionally, she implied that moving on from a relationship does not necessarily guarantee improvement or fulfillment.

Later, she added, “Since when I left I haven’t gained anything and I know that you too haven’t gained anything too.”

Her comments quickly gained traction, prompting users to weigh in on whether ex-partners deserve a second chance.

Social media users share mixed opinions

The viral clip has continued to generate debate, with some agreeing that people often appreciate their former partners after a breakup, while others insisted that returning to an ex is not always the best decision.

Several users argued that every relationship is different, saying reconciliation depends on the reason the relationship ended in the first place. Others maintained that moving on can lead to healthier relationships and personal growth.

As discussions continue online, the lady’s remarks have become another talking point in the ongoing conversation about love, heartbreak and second chances.

Colombian Duo Arrested After Stolen Mercedes Used in Brutal California Carjacking

0

Meanwhile, in California, technology played a pivotal role yet again as two Colombian nationals were apprehended following an alert from automated license plate readers. These systems identified a stolen Mercedes-Benz linked to a recent violent carjacking incident, which set authorities on their trail.

The vehicle in question, a 2015 Mercedes-Benz C300, had been reported stolen during a crime involving a violent carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon on July 11 in Hawthorne, California, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department news update.

Subsequent days saw deputies receiving an alert signifying the car’s presence in Rolling Hills Estates. This alert came from their automated license plate reader system. In their pursuit, deputies also discovered connections between the vehicle and a fresh residential burglary in Torrance, expanding the scope of their investigation.

Deputies found the Mercedes and conducted a traffic stop near Palos Verdes Drive North and Rolling Vista Drive.

As the vehicle came to a stop, a passenger jumped out and ran, prompting deputies to establish a perimeter, according to the sheriff’s department.

The driver, Yareht Pedraza, 26, of Bogotá, Colombia, was taken into custody at the scene.

“With deputies securing the perimeter and an LASD airship overhead, the search quickly shifted from the streets to the skies. Within a short time, the passenger was located and taken into custody,” the sheriff’s department said.

The passenger, Alan Pena Sabogn, 21, also of Bogotá, was later apprehended and arrested on suspicion of failing to obey a lawful order, obstructing a peace officer and providing false identification, authorities said.

Officials said Sabogn also had an outstanding felony no-bail burglary warrant from Colorado.

“This arrest is another example of how technology, proactive policing, and teamwork between deputies, dispatchers, and Air Support help quickly identify suspects and remove them from our communities,” the sheriff’s department said.

Tragic Toll: Over 930 Lives Lost in Congo’s Devastating Ebola Crisis

0

Tragically, a minimum of 930 lives have been claimed by the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to reports from the nation’s Health Ministry.

These fatalities are part of the 2,344 Ebola cases confirmed by Saturday, as per the health officials’ overnight report leading into Monday. Notably, 37 deaths were documented within the previous day, marking one of the deadliest 24-hour periods during this crisis.
