Discover Who’s Shaping the Future: Trump Allies and Rivals Top TIME’s 100 Most Influential List

0

TIME Magazine unveiled its prestigious annual “100 Most Influential People” list on Wednesday, spotlighting figures from various arenas, including allies and adversaries of President Trump.

In crafting this list, the publication draws on insights from journalists and sources globally, celebrating prominent figures in politics, business, and the arts.

President Trump himself is featured, alongside key figures from his administration. Notable mentions include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Dan Caine.

Rubio’s profile acknowledges his dual responsibilities as Secretary of State and National Security Adviser, highlighting his previous critiques of Trump.

“Rubio’s agile transition from a Trump critic to a key architect of the administration’s foreign policy has mended his ties with the MAGA faction and positions him as a potential heir to the Trumpist movement in 2028,” remarked TIME correspondent Philip Elliott.

Rubio and Vice President Vance are widely considered frontrunners in the Republican race to replace Trump at the end of his second term.

Additionally, several heads of state who have allied themselves with the president made TIME’s list, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

Netanyahu and Trump have coordinated attacks against Tehran, launching joint strikes against the country at the end of February amid nuclear deal negotiations.

Several of Trump’s political adversaries also made the list.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), a frequent opponent of the White House, received recognition for his “withering criticism” of Trump. Newsom is widely anticipated to be a Democratic frontrunner in the 2028 presidential race.

Additionally, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Pope Leo XIV are named on the list. Both leaders have clashed with Trump over the war in Iran.

After the U.S. and Israel launched a joint military operation on Iran at the end of February, Carney called the strikes a “failure of the international order.”

And the leader of the Catholic Church has spoken about the conflict more broadly, urging a cessation in violence and a return to the negotiation table.

Trump accused the American pontiff of believing Iran should have a nuclear weapon and called him “weak” on crime. Pope Leo responded, saying he had “no fear” of the Trump administration.

Other political opponents of the president on the list include Democrats New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.

Why Jack Whitehall’s Mother Hilary is in Despair: A Shocking Family Revelation

Comedian Jack Whitehall has found himself in hot water with his mother, Hilary, after providing her with inaccurate information regarding his wedding plans.

The 37-year-old entertainer is set to tie the knot with model Roxy Horner, 34, this weekend. However, Hilary was faced with an unexpected challenge concerning her attire for the event.

According to Richard Eden from the Daily Mail, Jack initially informed his mother of the dress code “several weeks ago,” only for her to later discover that he had given her the wrong information.

“When I asked Jack about the dress code several weeks ago, he gave me incorrect details. I ended up purchasing the wrong dress,” Hilary explained. “Then, when the wedding invitation finally arrived, it specified a completely different dress code. Jack simply said, ‘Sorry about that, Mumsy.'”

Meanwhile, preparations for the big day appeared to be in full swing. On Wednesday, Roxy and Jack were seen sharing a kiss as they stepped into a taxi, and Roxy’s bridal gown was spotted being carefully transported to the vehicle.

Roxy was already in bridal mode as she donned a white T-shirt, baseball cap and belt which she teamed with light wash jeans.

The couple, who are proud parents to daughter Elsie, two, packed on the PDA as they said their final goodbyes before the big day.

Jack, who cut a casual figure in a beige jumper and black jeans, looked full of nervous excitement as he helped load suitcases into the taxi and his daughter’s pram.

Hilary’s fuming update comes after she lived it up with Roxy and the model’s friends and family at her raucous hen do earlier this month.

Two weeks ago Roxy enjoyed a boozy weekend in London, taking to Instagram to share the behind-the-scenes of her lavish girls’ night as she enjoyed karaoke, a private dinner and a dance lesson by ex Strictly pro Luba Mushtuk.

But it seems Roxy’s favourite part of the weekend was being surprised with a lap dance from a Magic Mike stripper as her jaw dropped as she was pulled up on stage.

The stunner shared her hilarious reaction to the shirtless stripper’s performance at the Hippodrome Casino as she sat front row with friends.

Elsewhere Roxy wowed in a plunging lace sheer dress as she danced the night away in a bar before enjoying karaoke at Bunga 90 with friends.

Her mother-in-law-to-be Hilary joined in on the jam-packed weekend and looked incredible in a pink sequin blazer and matching trousers.

Roxy looked to have the time of her life as she rocked a white ‘wife’ cowgirl hat as well as a number of other personalised bridal merchandise from Gigi and Olive.

The model also treated her hen party to gift bags from the brand and matching pyjamas as she decorated her hotel room at art’otel London Hoxton with ‘Marriage Material’ silver balloons.

Jack meanwhile gave the Daily Mail a shout out for helping piece together his ‘patchy’ memory of his stag do, telling Chris Moyles he started drinking at 11am.

The newly-announced SNL host enjoyed a wild night out with James Corden and Jamie Redknapp, stopping off at a mini-golf bar called Swingers and visiting a racy club.

The comedian and actor elaborated on some of the ‘unwise’ antics to Radio X.

Confessing that he started drinking Guinness at 11am and his memory was patchy, he described the celebration as ‘pretty tame’.

He said: ‘[it was] relatively sensible, it was pretty tame. I started with Guinness at about 11 o’clock in the morning. Which was not that wise. I have a sort of patchy memory about what sort of happened in the evening.

‘But luckily, it was all reported in the Daily Mail the following day so I got to wake up and literally get a blow-by-blow itinerary of what I was doing the night before.’

He went on to say he was made to wear an inflatable crown, a Tottenham Hotspurs shirt and a cape for the outing. Jack kicked off Saturday’s festivities wearing a golden crown during a six-hour pub crawl through Soho.

He was joined on his stag by Redknapp, Corden and ex-rugby player Lawrence Dallaglio. James, 47, and Jamie, 52, were long-time colleagues of Whitehall on Sky’s sports-comedy panel show A League Of Their Own.

Their stag do reunion started at the Devonshire pub at 3pm, where Jack was clearly already in high spirits, raising glasses and laughing with his close-knit friends.

Their camaraderie was evident with pictures showing the group laughing and embracing each other.

By 5pm the party had moved to risque cabaret venue The Box in Soho, usually an evening-only venue, for what was thought to be a private show.

Groundbreaking Discovery: Astronomers Unveil Unprecedented Power and Speed of Black Hole Jets

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – In a groundbreaking achievement, researchers have successfully quantified the immense power of jets emanating from a black hole for the first time.

An international team announced Thursday that the energy output from this nearby black hole-star system matches the intensity of 10,000 suns. The jets, they observed, travel at an astonishing speed of approximately 355 million mph (540 million kph), which is about half the speed of light.

This system, known as Cygnus X-1, is situated 7,200 light-years from Earth and includes the first black hole ever identified over 50 years ago, alongside a massive blue supergiant star. To put it in perspective, a light-year equates to nearly 6 trillion miles (9.7 trillion kilometers).

Steve Prabu of the University of Oxford, along with his team, derived these insights from 18 years of detailed radio imaging data collected by an international array of telescopes. Prabu, who was affiliated with Australia’s Curtin University at the time of the research, spearheaded the study, which was recently published in Nature Astronomy.

These “dancing jets,” as Prabu describes them, were observed to be propelled in opposite directions by the stellar wind from the companion star. The team’s calculations, based on the curvature of the jets due to the wind along with sophisticated computer simulations, allowed them to capture the jets’ extraordinary power.

Until now, a black hole’s jet power had to be averaged over tens of thousands of years, the researchers said.

Prabu said a key finding is that 10% of all the energy released as matter falls toward the black hole is carried away by the jets.

On the skimpy side as black holes go, the one in Cygnus X-1 is continually pulling gases from its stellar playmate as they orbit one another. Discovered in the 1960s, the binary system is located in our Milky Way’s Cygnus, or swan, constellation.

The supergiant star feeds material to the black hole, giving it “something to ‘eat’ and launch as jets,” Prabu said in an email.

These jets can help scientists better understand how black holes help shape galaxies and other cosmic structures through large-scale shocks and turbulence.

Prabu plans to apply similar techniques to other black holes. “It would be exciting to measure jet power in many more systems,” he said.

Florida Teen Discovered in Convicted Sex Offender’s Closet: Shocking Details Unveiled by Sheriff

0

A missing 17-year-old girl, who had been reported as a runaway, was discovered in the closet of a convicted sex offender in Florida, leading to the man’s arrest on several charges, authorities announced on Tuesday.

Detectives from Polk County arrived at the residence of 30-year-old Alexis Diaz-Toledo on Monday. This followed a tip-off from Orange County deputies who believed the runaway teenager might be staying with a man in Dundee, according to information from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Initially, Diaz-Toledo informed investigators that he had not seen the girl in several days and denied any knowledge of her current location, the sheriff’s office reported.

Furthermore, authorities stated that Diaz-Toledo was initially uncooperative, refusing to allow detectives to search his property.

As a result of the investigation, Alexis Diaz-Toledo was arrested and faces multiple charges, including two counts of failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements, and sheltering a minor without notifying a parent, among other offenses, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives then determined Diaz-Toledo was in violation of his sex offender registration requirements for failing to report two vehicles being kept at his home.

When investigators eventually searched his home, authorities said detectives found the missing girl hiding in a bedroom closet.

The teen was safely returned to her family, the sheriff’s office said, without elaborating on how she ended up at the home of Diaz-Toledo.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd underscored concerns about the suspect in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“A 30-year old male sex offender is not the kind of person you want giving a 17-year old girl a place to stay,” Judd said. “I can assure you that Alexis Diaz-Toledo did not have the missing juvenile’s best interests in mind. Suffice to say, we gave Alexis a place to stay for a while — at the Polk County Jail.”

Diaz-Toledo was arrested and charged with two counts of failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements, interfering with custody of a minor, sheltering a minor without notifying a parent and providing false information to law enforcement during a missing person investigation.

The sheriff’s office said Diaz-Toledo has been a registered sex offender since a 2014 conviction for lewd and lascivious battery involving a minor. (Polk County Sheriff’s Office, File)

Diaz-Toledo remained in custody as of Wednesday, and was not eligible for bond, according to online jail records.

Diaz-Toledo has been a registered sex offender since a 2014 conviction for lewd and lascivious battery involving a minor between 12 and 15 years old, the sheriff’s office said.

Trump Administration Urges Global Support for ‘Trade Over Aid’ Initiative to Advance ‘America First’ Principles: Report

0

The Trump administration is reportedly rallying international support for a new initiative dubbed “trade over aid.” This plan encourages nations to embody “America First” principles by investing in U.S. businesses rather than allocating funds to overseas development efforts.

According to the Washington Post, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has instructed diplomats to assess global backing for this proposal. The aim is to present it at the United Nations by the end of the month.

In a diplomatic cable, Rubio outlined how the United Nations could be leveraged to “promote America First values” while simultaneously creating opportunities for U.S. businesses. He highlighted America’s current “new Golden Age,” attributing it to a robust economy driven by pro-business initiatives such as deregulation, tax reductions, and advancements in the energy sector.

“It was private enterprise, not government aid, that built the world’s thriving economies,” he asserted.

A diplomatic note from the U.S., obtained by Devex, criticized wealthier nations for spending billions on foreign aid projects, suggesting a shift towards trade investments.

“For decades, government aid has been flowing from developed to developing countries with only limited impact,” it says.

“It has not solved the world’s economic development challenges, and it has often created dependency, inefficiency, and corruption.”

Weeks after President Trump was inaugurated for the second time, plans were unveiled to eliminate approximately $60 billion in foreign aid spending by cutting 92% of grants issued by the US Agency for International Development – before it was later absolved into the State Department.

The audit identified nearly 15,000 grants and targeted almost 10,000 for elimination — the majority of which were issued by USAID – and first reported by the Washington Free Beacon.

The US State Department vowed to address decades of so-called “institutional drift,” according to a memo seen by the outlet, and reform the way Washington delivers foreign assistance.

“Every dollar we spend, every program we fund, must be justified with the answer to three simple questions: Does it make America safe? Does it make America stronger? Does it make America more prosperous?” the note said.

The Free Beacon reported in March 2023 how the Biden administration gave the green light to spend up to $1 million of taxpayer cash on helping disabled people in Tajikistan become so-called climate leaders.

Senior State Department official Jeremy Lewin told The Post in January, “Every dollar of foreign assistance has to advance the American national interest.”

Western nations such as the UK are among those who have joined the US in cutting foreign aid expenditure amid a rise in defense spending because of the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict.

In February last year, UK Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, announced plans to increase foreign defense spending to 2.5% of national income from 2027.

The UK government is cutting around £6 billion ($8 billion) from its foreign aid budget – and spending is at its lowest level since 2008, the Guardian reported.

France, Germany, and Japan have also trimmed down their respective foreign aid budgets, as have the EU institutions.

Chicago Mayor’s Veto Stands: Minimum Wage Increase for Tipped Workers Moves Forward

0

In a pivotal decision on Wednesday, the Chicago City Council was unable to overturn Mayor Brandon Johnson’s veto concerning a proposed pause on the scheduled increase in minimum wage for tipped workers. The council’s vote, which concluded at 30-19, fell short of the 34 votes necessary to override the mayor’s decision.

The ordinance, known as One Fair Wage, had originally been passed in 2023, aiming to ensure more equitable pay for restaurant workers by gradually eliminating the subminimum wage. Mayor Johnson, standing firm on his veto, hailed the outcome as a triumph for laborers striving for fair compensation.

However, not everyone is celebrating this development. Restaurant owners have expressed concerns, arguing that the rising wages are putting a strain on their financial stability, potentially affecting their business operations and profitability.

Despite the pushback from the business sector, Mayor Johnson’s stance reflects a broader commitment to economic justice for workers in the service industry, emphasizing the importance of fair wages as a fundamental right.

Mayor Brandon Johnson called it a victory for working people: an effort to eliminate subminimum wages for restaurant workers.

The Illinois Restaurant Association said in a statement, “While we are disappointed that the mayor vetoed the tip credit freeze, we are hopeful that the 60 percent of the Chicago City Council who stood up for our operators and servers will help us find a path forward that will protect restaurants and save our jobs. We urge the mayor to listen to the 30 aldermen who heard from hundreds of servers and operators from across the city that something needs to be done to support these restaurants. Their margins are slim and the risks are high for these businesses and inaction will only lead to more closures. Neighborhoods will slowly lose establishments that are integral to their communities, and the places that make this city special will eventually disappear. We seek a good faith effort from this administration to find a viable solution. Although there wasn’t enough support to override the mayor’s veto, the majority of the City Council recognized the urgent need for immediate action. We hope the mayor’s office acknowledges this widespread support, recognizes the significant concerns with the current plan, and commits to finding a solution that genuinely supports our restaurant workers, small businesses, and all 77 of the communities they serve.”

“We want to make sure that we’re supporting these small businesses because there is an opportunity to get to a compromise. We need the administration to stop talking about standing firm and actually get to the table so that we can land this negotiation,” 36th Ward Ald. Gilbert Villegas said.

Villegas said there will be a round two in his effort to freeze Johnson’s “One Fair Wage Ordinance.”

The measure gives tipped workers a bump in pay over a period of five years.

Villegas and the restaurant industry said 20% of Chicago’s neighborhood restaurants have gone out of businesses since the ordinance passed three years ago.

“I’m worried about our small independent restaurants and making sure we don’t see more empty storefronts throughout our great city,” said Sam Toia, with the Illinois Restaurant Association.

But, mayoral supporters say the ordinance has not stopped some new restaurants from opening. Northwest Side Alderman Jessie Fuentes led the way to successfully uphold Johnson’s veto of the freeze.

“It is not a moment to take away raises for people, raises for people when everything around them is more expensive and when people are struggling. Now than ever, we are watching people become homeless,” 26th Ward Alderman Fuentes said.

The mayor says he refuses to back down on his commitment to working people. He blames the struggles of small restaurant owners on Trump administration tariffs, not on his progressive policies.

“We’ve seen a well-organized corporate-funded effort to blame rising costs on Black and brown workers, while seeking to take a hard fought raises away from the very same workers,” Johnson said.

Johnson said it’s time to stop pitting workers against restaurant owners, but he appears to stand firm with the ordinance.

Progressive Alderwoman Jeanette Taylor says both sides must compromise.

“I want tip workers to get paid; I want them to make a living wage. But I also don’t want to see the Soulés and Virtue or small businesses close either,” Taylor said.

City Council approved a sizeable fare increase for taxis in Chicago.

The mayor is bumping up the cost of cabs by 20%, in both per mile and time charges.

It also includes new fees for rush hour and overnight rides and higher flat rates from airports to downtown.

Villegas was named chair of the Zoning Committee Wednesday, as well.

Police Report: Walmart Shopper Armed with Knife Attacks Toddler in Shopping Cart

Inset: Still images from an officer”s body camera show Noemi Guzman allegedly trying to stab a 3-year-old boy outside a Walmart in Nebraska (Omaha Police Department). Background: Cops investigate after officers shot Guzman dead (KETV).

In Omaha, Nebraska, law enforcement officials shot and killed a 31-year-old woman in a Walmart parking lot after she reportedly attempted to stab a child seated in a shopping cart. The incident took place on Tuesday morning, as confirmed by the authorities.

The chilling episode began shortly after 9 a.m. at the Walmart located at 1606 South 72nd Street, according to a statement from the Omaha Police Department. Initially, a 911 call was made requesting police presence, but the caller provided limited details. This was followed by another call reporting a woman armed with a “large kitchen knife” attacking a child.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Noemi Guzman, the 31-year-old suspect, who was armed and standing near the child in the cart, according to police reports. Despite commands to disarm, Guzman allegedly threatened and then injured the boy. The officers discharged their weapons, striking Guzman, who succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The child was quickly taken to safety by his guardian and a passerby, and his injuries were later deemed non-life-threatening, police stated. Guzman was declared deceased on-site.

Surveillance footage revealed that Guzman had stolen the knife used in the attack. After taking the knife, she approached the child and guardian in an aisle and reportedly coerced the guardian to accompany her around the store with the child in the cart.

They eventually exited the store before encountering cops. Police released harrowing still images from the officer’s body camera of Guzman making a stabbing motion toward the boy.

“The responding officers acted with professionalism and direct action to intervene and save a child’s life,” said Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer. “The community can be reassured in knowing that Omaha police officers stand ready to act with courage and decisiveness in the most serious situations to protect the public.”

Omaha Mayor John W. Ewing Jr. thanked police for quick action that prevented a “larger tragedy.”

“I am grateful for the department’s professionalism and transparency,” he said.

Officers say it’s unclear why Guzman allegedly targeted the guardian and child. The boy’s parents shared photos of his injuries with local ABC affiliate KETV which showed he suffered gashes along his face just above his ear and on his hand. He underwent surgery and is recovering at the hospital.

Terrifying Drive: Woman Clings to Car Bonnet as Vehicle Swerves on Road

0

A startling video has surfaced from the Gold Coast, capturing a woman desperately hanging onto the hood of a moving car amid what appears to be a road rage episode.

The incident unfolded when 22-year-old Natalie Alice Shaw was attempting to park her vehicle in July. According to Shaw, another driver, a woman, had been going the wrong way and obstructing her path.

Security footage reveals the tense moment as Shaw’s red car maneuvers into a drive-thru, where the confrontation escalates. The other woman approaches Shaw’s vehicle, attempting to open the car door.

The woman jumped onto the bonnet of the car before Shaw proceeded to drive out of the car park and onto Olsen Avenue in Molendinar. (Nine)

After initially leaving the scene, the unnamed woman returns, striding purposefully through the parking lot to reach the drive-thru exit once again.

In a video she recorded herself, Shaw recounts the encounter, saying, “She stands in front of my car and challenges me with, ‘What are you going to do? Hit me?’”

“And I was like, ‘Well, yeah if you’re in my way, I’m gonna get you to move out of my way’.”

The woman then jumped onto the bonnet of the car before Shaw proceeded to drive out of the car park and onto Olsen Avenue in Molendinar, a busy main road with a 60km/h speed limit.

“I’m like driving, trying to get her off … like swerving, trying to get her off,” Shaw said.

The woman clung to the windscreen wipers, telling Shaw to “slow the f— down” before eventually falling off the side.

The woman first appeared to block Shaw’s car. (Nine)
The vehicle continued along a busy road until the woman finally lost her grip. (Nine)

Shaw was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The ordeal was so strange, even Magistrate Sarah Thompson said “in 25 years of practice … I have never seen such bizarre behaviour”.

“The behaviour of the complainant was erratic, it was dangerous, it placed you in danger, you also placed her in danger,” Thompson said.

“It was a poor decision that you made in the circumstances, being confronted with what anyone objectively would see as a terrifying situation.”

Shaw was disqualified from driving for six months.

A rising para-athlete, her dreams of competing at the LA Paralympics in 2028 could be in jeopardy.

‘Good Boy’ (2025)

There have been over 100 years of cinema, but Good Boy just might be the very first horror movie that takes place almost entirely from the perspective of a dog. Director and cowriter Ben Leonberg cast his own dog, Indy, as the lead canine in this film. Indy and his owner, Todd (Shane Jensen), move into a remote cabin because the latter’s health is failing. Between the two, Indy is the only one who can perceive that something malevolent is in the cabin with them.

That’s the inherent problem facing Indy in the film. He can’t simply tell Todd about the disturbing things he sees and hears. And anytime Indy freaks out, Todd assumes it’s a behavioral issue. Todd’s grandfather (Larry Fessenden) died in this house, and so did his dog. Somehow, Indy has to make sure that he and Todd don’t meet the same fate.

Good Boy will stream on Hulu on April 25.

‘Cronos’ (1993)

The very first movie by Guillermo del Toro was a Mexican horror film called Cronos, and it was quite a debut for the director. The late Federico Luppi led the cast as Jesús Gris, an antiques dealer who has discovered a device created centuries earlier by an alchemist that can prolong life. It’s the closest thing that anyone has found to immortality, but it extracts a monstrous price. Jesús displays vampire-like symptoms, including an aversion to sunlight and a thirst for blood.

Ron Perlman, Selma Blair in Hellboy

Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro has been working with his signature blend of horror, fantasy and human drama for over thirty years. His newest film, an adaptation of Frankenstein, has been a passion project of his for many years. After a short theatrical run, it finally gets its premiere on Netflix this Friday. It stars […]

His granddaughter, Aurora Gris (Tamara Shanath), notices changes in Jesús’ behavior over time. But the real threat to his continued existence comes from a wealthy businessman, Dieter de la Guardia (Claudio Brook), and his nephew, Angel de la Guardia (Ron Perlman). Dieter knows about the device and wants it more than anything, and Angel has been ordered to kill anyone who stands in the way of that goal.

Cronos is streaming on HBO Max.

’28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ (2026)

It’s probably a good idea to watch 28 Years Later before catching 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. The good news is that both films are on Netflix and can be viewed back-to-back. Nearly three decades after the rage virus decimated the United Kingdom, Dr Ian Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) has made an extraordinary discovery while befriending Samson (Chi Lewis-Parry), one of the infected. It’s possible that the rage virus may be treatable after all.

The infected remain dangerous, but Spike (Alfie Williams) has bigger issues to deal with. Spike’s life was saved by Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell), but the latter is a lunatic who is leading a group of Satan worshipers. If Spike wants to stay alive long enough to escape this group, then he’s going to have to learn how to kill at a moment’s notice.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is streaming on Netflix.

Swalwell and Gallego’s Lavish PR Spending Uncovered: Campaign Funds Under Scrutiny

0

During the same weekend as Senator Ruben Gallego’s wedding, both former Congressman Eric Swalwell and Gallego himself were found to have used campaign funds at resorts in Puerto Rico, as revealed by Federal Election Commission records.

Gallego has recently been attempting to put distance between himself and Swalwell, who was once a close ally. Swalwell, a former congressman and California gubernatorial candidate, stepped down amid severe sexual assault allegations.

However, details of their past relationship are now coming to light, according to insights from the Daily Mail.

The records indicate that Swalwell’s political campaign made two payments to the Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico, amounting to $1,522.11 on June 7, 2021.

This date coincides with a wedding guest’s Instagram post, which tagged the same hotel as the venue for Gallego’s wedding.

The political operation of Gallego – the groom – spent $2,000 at the nearby Fairmont El San Juan that same day. Gallego, a congressman at the time, was elected to the Senate in November 2024.

Curiously, neither has ever posted photographs that include the other from the nuptials.

Gallego’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Mail when asked if the then-congressman spent campaign funds on a hotel during his island nuptials or if Swalwell attended the event.

Politico reported in 2021 that Swalwell was present at the wedding in the Monday, June 7th, 2021, edition of Politico Playbook.

California Democratic Congresswoman Linda Sanchez, also in attendance at the event per Politico, spent campaign funds at the Hyatt Regency totaling $1,809.79. On May 18th of 2021, Sanchez spent an additional $540.93 for a ‘lodging deposit’ at the hotel.

The Daily Mail contacted Sanchez’s office for comment about the disbursement as well as Swalwell’s attendance at the event, and did not receive a response.

Under federal law, campaign funds cannot be used for personal expenses.

Gallego and Sydney Barron Gallego were legally married in December 2019 in Washington, DC, at the National Gallery of Art, but went public with their engagement in February of 2020 ahead of their ‘marriage’ ceremony in Puerto Rico in June 2021.

Sydney is the Director of Government Advocacy at the National Association of Realtors, a top lobbying group, focusing on legislative strategy targeting House Democrats on housing finance, fair housing, and related issues. She also worked on Hillary Clinton’s campaign and for the Senate Democrats campaign arm.

Gallego, Arizona’s junior senator, held a press conference in his office on Tuesday during which he claimed he had no knowledge of Swalwell’s inappropriate behavior, even though he had heard that Swalwell was ‘flirty.’

He broke down in tears at one point, insisting that he ‘trusted’ his friend.

‘And it hurts, the fact that he hurt a lot of people, and it pisses me off that now we all have to deal with all of his BS, his family, the poor victims that are still going to have to seek justice,’ Gallego said.

Turning on his longtime friend and colleague, he said that Swalwell ‘became very good at being a predator.’

He also noted that Swalwell ‘lied to all of us’ during his time on the House Judiciary Committee, where he was an active voice in the push to impeach Donald Trump.

The two men have been close throughout their time in Congress, with their families on friendly terms. Gallego said Tuesday he had reached out to Swalwell’s wife through a mutual friend over the mounting allegations against her husband.

At least five women have accused Swalwell of sexual misconduct, including rape, sexual assault, and sending unsolicited messages and photographs.

Swalwell announced Monday he would resign his seat in Congress after being engulfed by the scandal. The Democrat – who had suspended his campaign for California governor only the day before – apologized to his family and staff while insisting the claims are false.

Gallego’s own personal life came under scrutiny during his Senate race. He is now on his second marriage, having filed for divorce from his first wife – Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego – while she was pregnant.

According to divorce records, he told Kate their marriage was over on December 15, 2016.

Although such records are normally public in Arizona, Gallego filed to have them sealed on the same day, citing the couple’s status as ‘high-profile public officials’ whose case would ‘likely receive intense scrutiny from the media.’

He later fought the conservative Washington Free Beacon in court to keep them sealed after the outlet sued for access.

In the filings, Kate appeared blindsided by Gallego’s claim that their marriage was ‘irretrievably broken’, responding that she was ‘without knowledge’ of his intentions.

The divorce was finalized in April 2017. Kate was then serving on the Phoenix City Council and went on to be elected Mayor of Phoenix in March 2019.
