3 killed in random shooting in Yakima, Washington; suspect dead: Police

Yakima, Washington Shooting

Authorities confirmed that a guy who is accused of killing three people by shooting them at a Circle K gas station and convenience store in Yakima, Washington, early on Tuesday has been found dead after an hours-long manhunt.

Yakima Police Chief Matthew Murray told reporters Tuesday afternoon that the suspect passed away from what seemed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound while being detained.

Murray stated, “We think with quite considerable confidence that this is the individual that was involved in the incident this morning.

At about 3:30 in the morning local time, the gunshot at the Circle K was reported. The shooter allegedly shot into a car and then stole it before crossing the street to an ampm convenience shop, according to Murray.

It is possible the gunman shot the person in the car as he stole it, the chief said. If so, the driver would be the fourth shooting victim.

Who Is The Suspect?

Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old Jarid Haddock of Yakima County. He allegedly fled in a car believed to be a gray or silver Chrysler 200, the chief said.

Around 2:15 p.m. local time, police received a 911 call from a woman who said she had just lent her phone to the suspect and allegedly overheard him make incriminating statements while talking to his mother, including “I killed those people,” Murray said.

When she received her phone back, the woman dialed 911 and was able to provide authorities with the location of the perpetrator, according to Murray.

“I heard that phone call. It’s quite terrifying, “Murray remarked. She was really brave to get us there, so I must truly thank her one more.

Responding cops swiftly found the offender, who was hurt by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials said. The suspect, who was being treated by first responders but subsequently declared dead, was not the target of any shots from the officers, according to Murray.

When he was discovered, the suspect had “a significant amount of ammo and a weapon,” Murray said.

Murray called the Circle K shooting an apparently random attack. The gunman “just walked in and started shooting,” he said.

The motive is not known, he said.

“We may never know,” Murray said.

Megan Marx Illness And Diagnoses Revealed

Bachelor Australia star Megan Marx has been diagnosed with spinocerebellar ataxia.

The 33-year-old provided the health update on Instagram on Sunday and encouraged her fans to keep a positive outlook despite being diagnosed with a rare degenerative neurological condition.

“Spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA6) Months of waiting for gene test results, I met with the neurologist on Friday. S— news. Diagnosis,” Marx wrote alongside a selfie. “Some tears while [boyfriend Keith Newman] took over the conversation. F— huh!”

What Is Spinocerebellar Ataxia?

Spinocerebellar ataxia is a group of inherited brain disorders that affects the cerebellum — part of the brain that controls coordination of physical movement — and the spinal cord, according to the Cleveland Clinic. It affects about one to five of every 100,000 people.

As the condition progresses, it can cause problems with the eyes, hands, speech, legs and mobility. Symptoms typically appear after age 18 and slowly worsen over several years, per the Cleveland Clinic.

There is no cure for spinocerebellar ataxia, however, treatment plans involve minimizing symptoms and improving function.

Following her diagnosis, Marx is remaining positive about the physical abilities she still has.

“Feeling grateful for my physical body right now, in its present state, before neurological degeneration attempts to take some of me from me,” the The Challenge Australia star said. “All the yays for love making and skinny dipping and hiking and painting and food-ing and bad dancing and awful conversations at bars.”

“Actually feeling grateful altogether. Many have worse diagnoses,” she ended the post. “Just some processing to do. Lots of living to do.”

Marx received a number of well wishes in the comments of her post, including messages from her fellow Challenge stars David Subritzky and Jessica Brody.

“Love you 💕 sending big hugs beautiful xx,” Subritzky wrote while Brody added, “Love you. Thinking of you ❤️”

Responding to another friend who commented, Marx continued her positive outlook on the diagnosis, joking, “What a pain! I’m counting on you to help me do wheelies in my wheelchair when the time comes 😜”

Obedin-Maliver says, until society acknowledges the basic truth that “anyone born with a uterus, ovaries and tubes” has the capacity to become pregnant, there will always be a lack of accurate research and data, leaving trans parents at a disadvantage. Does Transgender Men Get pregnant And Gives Birth? True Or False

In 2020, when Danny Wakefield gave birth to their first kid, a number of problems that transgender parents confront in the healthcare system came to light.

Wakefield, 36, who identifies as transgender and also uses they/them pronouns, says of her pregnancy: “I had a pretty rough pregnancy.” Wakefield claims that during their visits to the emergency room, they encountered “snickers” from the nurses as well as “doubt, incredulity, and a lack of competence” from doctors unprepared to address their requirements.

Because they didn’t think I was pregnant, it took an hour and a half in one case for them to treat Wakefield, she claims.

“The doctors and nurses would talk quietly among themselves, asking each other questions about me, instead of asking me directly — the patient who’s sitting right in front of them.”

Stories like Wakefield’s are not uncommon, says Dr. Juno Obedin-Maliver, assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stanford University School of Medicine. That’s mainly because the medical establishment — and society at large — has little knowledge about pregnancy in the trans male population.

“We grow up in a world with books, from preschool on up, that until very recently have not imagined or really represented the diversity of communities as they are,” Obedin-Maliver tells Yahoo Life. “None of our systems have been designed to delineate the difference between somebody’s gender and somebody’s pregnancy capacity.”

That’s slowly changing, Obedin-Maliver points out, due to a growing demand from transgender patients — and because more and more are sharing their stories, as with a recently trending New York Times Op-Doc about a trans man giving birth in a small town in Mexico.

Obedin-Maliver says, until society acknowledges the basic truth that “anyone born with a uterus, ovaries and tubes” has the capacity to become pregnant, there will always be a lack of accurate research and data, leaving trans parents at a disadvantage.

Trans Men Can — And Do — Give Birth

In accordance with Obedin-Maliver, transgender guys can become pregnant in the same manner that anyone with reproductive organs can. Transgender men are people who were born with female anatomy but live as and identify as men. That covers both sexual penetration with a sperm-bearing partner and the use of assisted reproductive technology (ART), such as intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Trans masculine pregnancies are not well understood because of the dearth of study on them and because they are not widely publicized. The idea that trans guys on testosterone are unable to become pregnant is one of the biggest, according to Obedin-Maliver.

Although more research is needed to determine how testosterone affects ovulation in general, taking the hormone does not make it impossible to conceive.

She clarifies that there is a distinction between ovulating and having a period, or not. In the body, those are actually separate yet connected processes. Therefore, it’s possible that a person using testosterone may not be menstruating anymore but is still ovulating or producing eggs. She continues, “That’s true for everybody [with female reproductive organs], and sometimes makes it hard for people to know whether they are pregnant since they’re having sex with sperm involved and we don’t know how much testosterone slows ovulation down.”

The people who need to hear it the most frequently don’t understand it.

Kayden Coleman, a gay transgender man — meaning his gender is trans male and his sexual orientation, something separate and different90, is gay — is father to two daughters, 9 and 2, and has been on testosterone for 14 years. He went off during both pregnancies at the advice of his doctor but was still taking doses of the hormone when he discovered he was pregnant — both times unplanned.

Coleman tells Yahoo Life that “there are many doctors who are providing testosterone to transgender males and selling them this idea that they’ll somehow be infertile or not be able to get pregnant.” You can become pregnant as long as you have sex with someone who produces sperm.

Wakefield experienced something like. They were informed they “would not be able to conceive or carry a kid since it would serve as a natural birth control” when they initially started taking testosterone ten years ago. Wakefield ultimately became pregnant against her will.

Sonny Witt, a trans father in Australia who gave birth in 2022, planned his pregnancy through IVF. At the advice of his doctors, he went off testosterone during the egg-retrieval process (as well as during the pregnancy itself).

He started up again “about three months” after giving birth.

In some cases, trans men may choose to pause their hormone treatments in an effort to get pregnant, but this step is sometimes unnecessary — and those considering it should consult with their doctor beforehand. And again, not all transgender men use testosterone, just as not all keep their uteruses.

As for Witt, 30, he says he had no idea pregnancy was an option until he started seeing other trans dads sharing their journeys online. That’s when he decided to make his dream of fatherhood a reality by reaching out to a “rainbow clinic,” specializing in LGBTQ family planning.

“I had no idea that this was available to a trans person,” he tells Yahoo Life, “which is why I have publicly shared my own journey. I want more people to be aware that this is a possibility.”

Shon McCloud, a Virginia-based U.S. Army vet who identifies as trans, is currently pregnant with his first child, conceived naturally with his male partner. His doctors considered the pregnancy “high risk” because he was on testosterone during conception, which is partly why he has paused taking the hormone until after giving birth.

Tim Edwards paid tribute to his 26-year-old daughter, who he described as having “a heart of gold,” and said the horrific incident “should never have happened.”

“I’m simply pleased I had the time with her that I did,” he continued.

The grieving father issued a stark warning about the risks of gun violence in his first interview since she passed away, adding, “Do not pick up that gun, because the minute you do your life is over.”

The heartbroken father said she had a 'heart of gold' in his first interview since her death

In his first interview after his daughter’s passing, the grieving father praised her for having a “heart of gold.”

Just before Christmas Day, Ms. Edwards was fatally shot in the Lighthouse pub in Wallasey Village, Wirral.

She is not thought to have been the attack’s intended target, which also injured four men.

A 22-year-old guy has been detained and accused of using a submachine gun to kill Ms. Edwards.

On Monday, Connor Chapman appeared via videolink at Liverpool Crown Court where he was accused of nine offences, including murder. In June, he is scheduled to go on trial.

Prior to Ms. Edwards’ funeral the following week, her father described her as a “lovely and compassionate” person and expressed his regret that he would no longer be able to celebrate Christmas.

She was the kind of girl who would walk into a room and draw attention because she was always smiling, he told Sky News.

She hugged well and had a lovely appearance. She was simply a wonderful person with a golden heart.

There are no winners in gun violence, he continued. Your future and everyone else’s around you are over if you pick up a gun. It’s incredibly easy. It solves nothing and has no purpose at all.

Her resignation comes into effect on Sunday if the Labour Party can elect her replacement, or on February 7 if the process was drawn out.

‘I am human. Politicians are human. We give all we can for as long as we can – and then it’s time. And for me, it’s time,’ she said.

‘I know what this job takes. And I know that I no longer have enough in the tank to do it justice.’

Jacinda Ardern has choked back tears as she announced her resignation as New Zealand Prime Minister

When Jacinda Ardern announced her resignation as prime minister of New Zealand, she struggled to hold back her tears.

Prior to the impending election, Ms. Ardern stated that her party’s polling deficit to the opposition National Party had nothing to do with her decision to resign.

She declared, “I am not quitting because I think we can’t win the election, but because I think we can and will.”

The following New Zealand election, Ms. Ardern stated during her departure speech, will take place on October 14.

What Are Signs Of Health Issues On The Tongue?

Problems ranging from vitamin deficiencies, allergies, and a weak immune system can manifest first in the tongue — making the organ appear smooth, and red or allowing a fungal infection to appear.

Last week, NewsFinale.com revealed the hidden health issues that you should look out for in your fingernails. Now, we look at the conditions that often show symptoms in people’s tongues.

Pictured above are five conditions that can be detected on tongues, alongside their causes. A strawberry red tongue (top right) can also be caused by an infection, such as that from Strep throat, or a vitamin deficiency. A yellow tongue could also be a sign of gastritis. It is caused by a build-up of dead skin cells on the tongue, which can be triggered by a lack of saliva — as happens in gastritis patients — or not brushing often enough

White patches are a sign of a fungal infection

At some time in our life, a lot of people will get white patches on their tongues. But did you realize that it might be a fungus?

Small quantities of the yeast-like fungus Candida are present on the skin, in the mouth, throat, gut, and – for females — the vagina.

It is not dangerous and usually goes unnoticed.

However, it has the potential to start growing uncontrollably at any time, leading to a white layer on the tongue.

This occurs when drugs or antibiotics eliminate beneficial bacteria that are controlling the fungus, allowing it to spread swiftly.

It can also be caused by chronic stress weakening the immune system, which can also leave the gates open for the fungus to start growing

Dr Uchenna Akosa, a dentist at Rutgers University in New Jersey, told Shape: ‘It’s a very white coating [on the top and sides of the tongue], and underneath [the tongue] it can be red and raw.’

Other symptoms include a loss of taste and smell and pain while eating or swallowing.

Tongue scraping prevents gum disease, cavities and bad breath

One teeth-based TikTok trend — known as tongue scraping — can actually boost oral hygiene, dentists say.

The infection is easily treated using an antifungal medication, which can be delivered in a tablet or liquid form.

People may be able to prevent it on the tongue by brushing the tongue twice a day even though it is not contagious.

According to the NHS in the UK, oral thrush is a frequent infection in infants, affecting one in seven of them. Due to their immature immune systems, infants are particularly vulnerable.

Because they have a weakened immune system and the yeast can become trapped beneath dentures, older persons who wear dentures are also more susceptible to the illness.

According to estimations from 2011, older patients in hospitals are more likely to get thrush because their immune systems are less robust.

Smooth tongue? You’re not consuming enough vitamins

The tongue can also warn of vitamin deficiencies, such as a lack of iron and vitamin B12 — both important for making red blood cells in the body that carry oxygen to different organs.

Normally, the tongue has hundreds of tiny bumps on its surface known as papillae, with each containing several taste buds.

But when someone is deficient in vitamins these papillae start to waste away and drop off the tongue.

Dr Mark Wolff, a dentist at Penn Medicine in Pennsylvania, told Shape: ‘All of a sudden, the tongue becomes glossy and loses texture.

‘That’s a real defining moment. The tongue is an amazing location in that respect, that so many nutrient-bound conditions just pop right out on the tongue.’

Lacking vitamin B12 and iron leads to fewer red blood cells in the body.,

This means that less oxygen is carried to organs, with the lack of oxygen in the tongue leading to papillae to start to waste away.

Patients may be more prone to notice other signs of a vitamin deficiency, such as excessive weariness, chest pain, and pale skin.

Adult men should consume about 8 milligrams (mg) of iron per day, while women should consume 18mg, according to the National Institutes of Health.

For men, this can be attained by consuming seven to fourteen turkey breasts daily.

Vitamin deficiencies can be prevented in people by consuming a healthy, balanced diet.

According to estimates, 6% of Americans suffer from a vitamin B12 deficiency, while approximately 10 million Americans have an iron deficiency.

Sores on the tongue, known as canker sores, can indicate injury or stress

Sores on the tongue, known as canker sores, can indicate injury or stress

Those sores on your tongue could be an injury or stress

Canker sores are small, round, painful lesions that may form on the tongue, cheeks or gums.

Dentists say the main cause of these marks — medically termed aphthous ulcers — is injury to the mouth.

This can be caused by accidentally biting down on areas in the mouth, or even by brushing areas too strongly.

But regularly getting canker sores could also be a sign of stress.

The state of mental strain can lead people to bite down on cheeks and tongues more often as they clench their teeth, meaning they have more of these sores.

Stress can cause the tongue to repeatedly press up against clenched teeth, which can result in indentations on the top or side of the tongue.

Other factors include a food allergy to foods like cheese, coffee, strawberries, or even menopausal hormone fluctuations.

These lesions are benign and typically disappear on their own, without any complications.

Medical professionals advise patients to see a doctor if they have sores that are especially large, persistent, do not heal, and make it difficult to eat or drink.

According to the Mayo Clinic, a tiny sore takes one to two weeks to heal, but larger ones can take up to six weeks.

Strawberry tongue can be caused by a food allergy, infection or vitamin deficiency

How a strawberry tongue could indicate a secret allergy

If you’ve ever suffered from a red tongue after eating a certain food, it could be a sign of a hidden allergy.

For many people with mild food allergies, their tongues become radiant red — sometimes known as ‘strawberry tongue’.

It can also become sore and swollen due to an allergy, or the sides of the mouth can start swelling as well.

Dentists say this may indicate a food allergy, particularly against certain fruits and vegetables.

The immune system malfunctions and targets substances it misidentifies as foreign invaders, resulting in the red, inflamed tongue.

Bacterial infections that result from strep throat are among the other reasons why people get “strawberry tongue.”

In these situations, the bacteria induce the red tongue, sometimes known as “scarlet fever,” by releasing poison into the tongue.

Once again, patients are likely to notice further signs of this infection, such as a fever, sore throat, and red skin rash.

A crimson tongue can also result from vitamin deficiencies, such as a lack of vitamin B-12.

Yellow patches mean you’re not brushing properly… or it could be a sign of gastritis

A yellow tongue is caused by a build-up of dead skin cells on the surface of the tongue, which are then broken down by bacteria giving them the yellow hue.

Doctors say the build-up itself is normally ‘harmless’, but could be an indication of an underlying condition.

This includes gastritis, where the lining of the stomach becomes inflamed — often due to an infection.

When people suffer from gastritis they are likely to produce less saliva, meaning dead skin cells are cleared from the surface of the tongue less often.

As they build up, they can then cause a ‘yellow tongue’ to appear.

Patients are likely to also note other symptoms of gastritis, however, such as pain in the upper abdomen, nausea and vomiting. Gastritis accounts for about 2 million doctor visits a year, estimates suggest.

According to doctors, having a “yellow tongue” may also indicate that a person is not brushing their tongue frequently enough, enabling dead cells to build up.

Everyone should immediately brush their tongues after brushing their teeth twice daily. A toothbrush should be used for this.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, other factors that contribute to a yellow tongue include smoking, consuming meals with a yellow hue, chewing tobacco, and even using particular mouthwashes.

A sore throat, a fever, foul breath, and a bad taste in the mouth are some other signs of a yellow tongue.

Eight out of every 1,000 people have gastritis.

What should a healthy tongue look like?

So, what does a healthy tongue look like in real life?

According to medical professionals, it should be pink in color, ranging from light to darker shades.

The tongue should also be covered in numerous tiny bumps that are taste buds.

A healthy tongue should be pink and covered in tiny nodules, according to Dr. Daniel Allen, who spoke to the Cleveland Clinic (papillae).

Any difference from the way your tongue usually looks or any discomfort should be taken seriously.

“Everyone should check their tongue every day as they brush their teeth and tongue,” they continue.

‘Any discolorations, lumps, sores or pain should be monitored and evaluated by a medical professional if they don’t go away within two weeks’.
