President Trump Accelerates Psychedelic Drug Review for Innovative Mental Health Solutions

0

President Donald Trump has initiated a significant move to expedite the federal review process for psychedelic drugs, aiming to unlock new avenues for mental health treatments.

WASHINGTON — In a bid to enhance mental health care, President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Saturday that calls for a swift federal review of psychedelic substances as potential treatments for mental health issues.

“Today’s executive order marks a pivotal step towards offering hope to individuals grappling with severe symptoms, giving them a chance to reclaim their lives and pursue happiness,” Trump remarked during the signing ceremony.

The decision comes on the heels of a 2024 study conducted by Stanford University, which revealed promising results using the psychoactive compound ibogaine, derived from plants, to aid combat veterans suffering from traumatic brain injuries.

Such injuries are a predominant factor in the onset of various mental health challenges, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and elevated suicide rates among veterans.

Few treatments have been effective in managing long-term effects of TBI, according to the study, but researchers found that the psychoactive drug effectively helped to reduce symptoms with no serious side effects.

Several veterans who participated in the study called the drug was “life changing.”

Sean, a veteran in his 50s from Arizona with six combat deployments, was one of the study participants. He said ibogaine saved his life.

“Before the treatment, I was living life in a blizzard with zero visibility and a cold, hopeless, listless feeling,” he said in the report. “After ibogaine, the storm lifted.”

Ibogaine is found in the roots of the African shrub iboga and has been used for ceremonial and healing purposes for centuries. However, it has been designated a Schedule I drug in the U.S. since the 1970s, which is the most restrictive category for illegal or high-risk drugs.

However, the order signals that the administration is taking steps to ease access to psychedelics that Trump said were already designated as potential breakthroughs by federal regulators.

The Food and Drug Administration next week will issue national priority vouchers for three psychedelics, which the agency’s commissioner, Marty Makary, said will allow certain drugs to be approved quickly “if they are in line with our national priorities.” It is the first time the FDA has offered that fast-tracking to any psychedelics.

The FDA is also taking steps to clear the way for the first-ever human trials of ibogaine in the United States.

No psychedelic has been approved in the United States, but a number of them are being studied in large trials for various mental health conditions, including psilocybin, MDMA and LSD.

All those drugs remain illegal, classified as Schedule I substances alongside drugs such as heroin.

Two states — Oregon and Colorado — have legalized psychedelic therapy with psilocybin.

American Airlines Declines Merger Discussions with United Airlines

0

On April 17, American Airlines clarified that it has no plans to merge with United Airlines, quashing any speculation about a transformative deal that would likely face intense regulatory examination.

Uniting two of the largest network carriers in the United States would represent the most significant consolidation in over ten years, further narrowing a domestic market already dominated by four major players. According to OAG data, by 2025, American and United were projected as the largest airlines globally in terms of available capacity, both for domestic and international routes.

Such a merger would undoubtedly attract significant scrutiny from regulators, labor unions, and consumer advocates, all concerned about potential increases in fares and decreased competition. Industry analysts and officials believe these factors would considerably reduce the likelihood of regulatory approval.

American and United also operate with substantial overlaps, particularly at key hubs like Chicago O’Hare and several locations in Texas.

American Airlines stated, “While adjustments in the airline market may be necessary, merging with United would harm competition and consumers,” emphasizing that such a move would contradict their understanding of the Trump administration’s antitrust policies.

United Airlines declined to comment, while the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The White House has previously said it has no opinion on a potential United Airlines deal for American Airlines.

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby pitched the potential for merging with American Airlines in a meeting with US President Donald Trump in late February, Reuters reported on Monday.

The meeting with Trump was three days before the start of the US-Israeli war with Iran that sent jet fuel prices soaring and has led airlines to raise fares and fees to offset higher costs.

Kirby has argued to administration officials that a combined airline would be a stronger competitor in international markets and noted the Trump administration has focused on US trade deficits around the globe, according to sources.

But one person close to the White House had told Reuters there was skepticism about such a tie-up, given its potential impact on competition and ticket prices at a time when the administration is already focused on rising costs for consumers ahead of midterm elections in November.

Titanic Survivor’s Life Jacket Fetches Over $900,000 at Auction

LONDON – At a recent auction, a life jacket worn by a passenger who survived the tragic sinking of the RMS Titanic fetched an astounding 670,000 pounds ($906,000).

The life jacket, once worn by Laura Mabel Francatelli, a first-class passenger who escaped the ill-fated voyage on a lifeboat, bears signatures from her and fellow survivors.

This notable artifact was the highlight of a Titanic memorabilia auction held by Henry Aldridge & Son in Devizes, western England. The life jacket significantly surpassed its presale estimate of 250,000 to 350,000 pounds, ultimately going to an anonymous bidder who participated via telephone.

Another remarkable sale at the event was a lifeboat seat cushion, which was acquired for 390,000 pounds ($527,000) by the proprietors of two Titanic museums located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and Branson, Missouri.

The auction prices mentioned include the buyer’s premium, a standard fee added to the sale price.

“These record-breaking prices illustrate the continuing interest in the Titanic story, and the respect for the passengers and crew whose stories are immortalized by these items of memorabilia,” auctioneer Andrew Aldridge said.

Billed as the world’s most luxurious ocean liner and described as “practically unsinkable,” the Titanic hit an iceberg off Newfoundland during its maiden voyage from England to New York. It sank within hours on April 15, 1912. Some 1,500 of the 2,200 passengers and crew died.

The Titanic is still a subject of worldwide fascination, in part because of the range of passengers aboard the ship, from paupers to plutocrats.

Francatelli was traveling with her employer, fashion designer Lucy Duff Gordon, and Lucy’s husband Cosmo Duff Gordon. All three survived in the ship’s lifeboat No. 1, which was launched carrying 12 people despite having capacity for 40. Its failure to pick up survivors from the frigid water became a source of controversy.

The record auction price for a piece of Titanic memorabilia is 1.56 million pounds (almost $2 million at the time) paid in 2024 for a gold pocket watch given to the captain of RMS Carpathia, the ship that rescued 700 Titanic survivors.

Discover the Life and Career of Tarrant County’s Judge George Gallagher

George Gallagher Biography – George Gallagher Wiki

George Gallagher serves as the presiding judge for the 396th Judicial District Court in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. His tenure on the bench began with his election on November 7, 2000. Prior to assuming this role, Gallagher was a partner at the law firm Zachry, Hill, Beatty, Butcher & Gallagher. His legal career also includes experience as an assistant district attorney in the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.

Gallagher’s academic journey includes earning a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University, followed by a Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1982. He holds a Board Certification in Criminal Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, underscoring his expertise in the field.

Beyond his judicial duties, Judge Gallagher is actively involved in the legal community. He is a member of the Tarrant County Bar Association, the Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the Eldon B. Mahon American Inn of Court. Politically, he is affiliated with the Republican Party.

Controversy

In 2016, Judge Gallagher was at the center of a high-profile case, presiding over the trial of State of Texas v. Terry Lee Morris. Due to Morris’ disruptive actions during pretrial hearings, the bailiffs recommended the use of a stun cuff on Morris’ ankle throughout the trial. Judge Gallagher authorized the activation of the stun cuff three times during proceedings.

The case took a significant turn upon appeal when the El Paso Court of Appeals overturned Morris’ conviction. The court determined that the activation of the stun cuff was not justified by legitimate security concerns, raising serious constitutional questions. Consequently, the appellate court vacated the conviction and mandated a retrial, citing fundamental issues with the original trial’s adherence to constitutional standards.

The Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct determined the Honorable George Gallagher should be publicly warned for engaging in willful conduct that cast public discredit upon the judiciary and the administration of justice in violation of Article V, Section 1-a(6)(A) of the Texas Constitution, when he ordered the activation of Mr. Morris’ stun cuff which resulted in injury to Mr. Morris and his absence from the remainder of the guilt-innocence phase of his own criminal trial.

Second Turkish Mass Shooting in Two Days Leaves Nine Dead and Thirteen Injured

0

A tragic incident unfolded at a Turkish middle school on Wednesday, where a 14-year-old boy allegedly killed at least nine individuals and injured 13 others, as reported by media outlets and officials.

The young suspect is believed to have executed the attack using firearms owned by his father, a former police officer, according to statements from Regional Governor Mukerrem Unluer. This marks the second such incident to occur in Turkey within just two days.

Governor Unluer informed reporters that the student arrived at the school with the weapons concealed in his backpack. “He entered two classrooms and began firing indiscriminately, resulting in multiple casualties and injuries,” Unluer stated, according to various media sources.

Among the victims were eight students and one teacher, as confirmed by Turkey’s Interior Minister, Mustafa Ciftci, during a press briefing covered by Reuters.

Ciftci was also adamant that this was a “sole incident” and not a terror attack.

The shooting took place at Ayser Çalık Middle School in Turkey’s Kahramanmaras region, roughly 140 miles west of the high school where another student killed himself after injuring 16 others in a shooting one day earlier.

Shooting deaths are rare in Turkey, with just over 2.6 per 100,000 residents every year, compared to the U.S.’s 14.5. Gun applicants must be at least 21 years old and go through a rigorous medical clearance and background check process.

Gun acquisition is, however, considerably more expedient for professionals with certain careers, such as law enforcement.

“Managing the process with sound judgment, protecting societal peace, and particularly ensuring the psychological security of our children are of utmost importance,” the country’s Ministry of Communications also posted on X.

“It is essential for our media organizations to act with the utmost sense of responsibility in their broadcasting policies,” the post continued, adding that “such incidents create a highly fertile ground for disinformation.”

Four chief inspectors and four inspector generals have been assigned to an investigation into the incident, the Turkish Ministry of the Interior wrote on X.

Shocking Family Drama: Son’s Accusation Sparks Violent Reaction in Cheating Allegation

Inset: Lucianny Luna (Miami-Dade Corrections). Background: Luna”s listed address in Miami, Fla. (Google Maps).

In a recent incident, a woman from Florida found herself in legal trouble after her 12-year-old son alleged she attacked him multiple times, suspecting her of infidelity towards his stepfather, according to reports from state law enforcement.

Lucianny Lizbeth Luna, aged 32, faces a charge of child abuse without causing physical harm, as documented in the Miami-Dade County court filings.

Authorities apprehended Luna on Thursday following her son’s report to school authorities about injuries inflicted by his mother, as detailed in a criminal complaint and arrest affidavit reviewed by Law&Crime.

Upon visiting the school, an officer and a child protective services representative observed “a contusion with lacerations on his left face next to his left eye.” The boy explained to officials that his mother had inflicted the injuries the previous day.

According to the charging documents, “The defendant picked him up from school” and drove him in his stepfather’s car to Gwen Cherry Park for practice. During the drive, Luna was allegedly on the phone with someone the boy believed was her supposed affair partner.

The child said the car ride turned violent when his mother told the man “she was taking him to the park to play,” but that he interrupted to correct her and say: “I’m not going to play, it’s just so the coach can go to pick me up,” according to the Miami Police Department.

“The defendant then struck the victim in the face with her right hand, slapping him in the middle of his face,” the police officer wrote. “I observed a small bruise in between his eyebrows. The defendant then grabbed his hair, pulled it, and struck him on the back of his head, approximately eighteen to nineteen times, with a small glass bottle.”

The boy, however, said he did not have an injury on the back of his head from the bottle, but that “it was sore.”

“The victim stated that after he was hit, he felt in shock and froze for a moment, and the defendant began to shake him,” the charging document continues. “The victim stated that when they were closer to his residence, she then attempted to slash him with her keys. The victim tried to deflect the strike, but the key stabbed him in his right palm. I observed a small laceration to his right palm.”

After entering the residence, the child told his stepfather “the defendant was on the phone with the other man,” police said. The stepfather then said something to the effect of: “I’m tired of you doing this, and instructed the victim to go take a shower.”

After the boy took a shower, his stepfather asked him to “come back and repeat what he had told him earlier.”

“While the victim was mid-sentence, the defendant struck the victim on the left side of his face, causing an injury near his eye,” the complaint goes on. “The defendant then slammed the victim against the wall. The victim began to run away from the defendant, but then [his mother] grabbed the victims towel, holding him back.”

Then, the stepfather intervened to hold Luna back, allowing the boy to run to his room and close the door, according to the complaint.

The defendant then allegedly issued a series of threats.

“The defendant was outside of his door yelling to the victim I want to kill you,” the complaint reads. “You’re not my son. Come out the door, and I’ll kill you with anything I have. The victim then called his aunt.”

During their Instagram call, the boy showed his aunt his injuries and asked her to contact his grandparents so they could pick him up.

“The victim stated he was in fear for his life and that he wanted to call 911, but he was scared,” the police officer wrote. “I observed a contusion around the victim’s left eye with several small lacerations and a small bruise on his mid back.”

The aunt would go on to corroborate the boy’s story, including the injury to the child’s left eye, according to the police department.

Later, police contacted Luna about the incident.

“The defendant admitted to hitting the victim several times on the back, once with an open hand and could not recall the subsequent strikes,” the charging document reads. “She denied hitting him in the face or on the back of his head.”

The defendant was subsequently arrested and booked in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. On Friday, she posted $5,000 bond. Court records do not currently show any scheduled hearings.

Caitlyn Jenner Seeks Donald Trump’s Assistance in Amending Passport Gender Marker

0

Caitlyn Jenner has disclosed that she reached out directly to Donald Trump, pleading for assistance after her passport unexpectedly reverted to indicating her gender as male.

The 76-year-old former Olympic champion shared that, despite having meticulously updated all her legal documents to represent her transition, her identification still showed her sex as ‘M.’

‘Today, documentation is extremely important. Every time you turn around, you gotta show ID, ID, ID,’ Jenner said during an appearance on Tomi Lahren’s podcast.

“For someone like me, who has gone through the transition process, I took extensive measures. I collaborated with a law firm to ensure everything was updated from ‘M’ to ‘F,’ including my birth certificate,” Jenner explained.

She further elaborated that all her documents, such as her passport and global entry, accurately reflected her transition as she traveled globally. However, complications surfaced when her passport expired and was subsequently renewed.

As a supporter of Trump, Jenner attempted to address the mistake on her own by submitting official documents to the State Department.

‘I did everything,’ she said, adding that she mailed in a hard copy of her amended birth certificate. ‘And they sent it back, M, they didn’t change it.’

It comes after Trump signed an executive order stating that only two genders will be recognized and that government-issued identification documents should reflect a person’s sex ‘at conception.’

‘What do I do?’ she added. ‘This is a safety factor.’

After her attempts failed, Jenner said she appealed directly to Trump.

‘I was in Mar-a-Lago two months ago, [and] wrote a letter explaining all of this to him, how it’s affecting me and a lot of other people,’ she said.

‘Unfortunately, he wasn’t there that weekend. The Secret Service guy said he could get it to him, put it on his desk and stuff.

‘I haven’t heard from him. He’s kind of busy right now. My gender marker is not big on the issue, OK?’

Despite the situation, Jenner made clear she was not criticizing the president.

‘I’m not blaming him whatsoever. I love the guy, and I love what he’s doing,’ she said.

The issue comes after Trump signed an executive order on his first day back in office declaring that the United States would recognize only two sexes, male and female.

‘Across the country, ideologues who deny the biological reality of sex have increasingly used legal and other socially coercive means to permit men to self-identify as women,’ the order states. ‘This is wrong.’

Following the order, the State Department moved to suspend processing passport applications from Americans seeking to change their gender marker.

Jenner said she complied with all requirements but was still unable to have her passport corrected.

Other high-profile transgender figures have reported similar issues.

Euphoria star Hunter Schafer previously said her passport had been amended to reflect her sex at birth, rather than her gender identity, after submitting paperwork.

An estimated 476,000 transgender adults in the United States lack identification documents that accurately reflect their gender marker, according to the Williams Institute.

Mismatched identification can create complications when traveling, passing through security, or verifying identity in everyday situations.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Daily Mail has reached out to Caitlyn Jenner’s representation for comment.

Dylan Dreyer’s Stunning Hair Transformation: How Extensions Completely Revamped Her Look!

Dylan Dreyer has long been known for her trademark blond bob, a style that effortlessly suits any outfit or weather. However, the meteorologist recently switched things up by experimenting with hair extensions. As she graced the red carpet at the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards, Dreyer took her look to the next level with an eye-catching waist-length bubble ponytail. Featuring a sleek middle part, the ponytail was elegantly positioned at the back of her head, adding a touch of sophistication to the trendy hairstyle. The dramatic change from her usual look was unmistakable, yet Dreyer carried it off with aplomb. And it’s not just us who noticed!

Taking style risks doesn’t always guarantee success, but for Dreyer—who also shines in her natural, makeup-free look—this bold move certainly paid off. In a Facebook post celebrating her glamorous appearance, fans were quick to shower the NBC meteorologist with compliments. “Dylan looked amazing!! She’s so beautiful!!” exclaimed one admirer. Another fan echoed similar sentiments, saying, “Dylan always looks beautiful! Loved the ponytail.” A third fan went further, praising both her hairstyle and family life, “She’s the cutest! Love her and her family! Her cooking segments with her kids are so adorable. Much Love Dylan,” they gushed.

Of course, not everyone was a fan, as is often the case on social media. One critic remarked, “I know it was all for a fun time out & about. But I didn’t care for the outfit or hairstyle. She generally has good taste but not this time. I wouldn’t have liked this on anyone.” Despite this, the majority of comments were overwhelmingly positive, a rarity in the world of social media.

At the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards, Dylan Dreyer stood out among the stars, proving that stepping out of one’s comfort zone can yield positive results. Most importantly, she demonstrated the power of trusting your instincts.

During the E! News red carpet coverage, Dreyer, whose style has evolved beautifully over the years, shared the inspiration behind her audacious look. “I wanted to bring New York to Nashville,” explained Dreyer, who is based in New York City (via Today). “But didn’t want to look like I was trying too hard. So I thought this was a good combo.” Mission accomplished!

What inspired Dylan Dreyer’s makeover?

Dylan Dreyer gave every celebrity at the People’s Choice Country Awards a run for their money in 2024. Most importantly, however, she proved that stepping outside of your comfort zone can be a positive thing from time to time. Also? It’s good to trust your instincts.

During the E! News red carpet broadcast, Dreyer, who’s transformed beautifully over the years, revealed the personal inspiration for her daring look. “I wanted to bring New York to Nashville,” said the star, who works in New York City (via Today). “But didn’t want to look like I was trying too hard. So I thought this was a good combo.” Mission accomplished!

Needless to say, Dreyer was a big fan of that particular look. Not only was she beaming in every photo she took that night, she was also quite eager to show off the back of the style on the red carpet. “Wanna spin with the hair, look at this,” she said to a reporter who asked her to flaunt her hair for the camera. “Have you ever seen me with long hair?” she added.

For many fans, of course, the answer was “no,” and it doesn’t appear as if she’s experimented with longer locks since 2024. But maybe she’ll bring them back one day!

Christina Applegate’s Health Crisis: Friends Share Distressing Hospitalization Details

Friends of Christina Applegate are expressing deep concern for the “Married… With Children” actress following her recent hospitalization, as troubling new details emerge regarding her ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, a source shared on Friday, “Each setback brings the harsh reality to the forefront—that time with her might be limited.”

While describing Christina’s resilience, the source noted, “Her struggle with MS has been daunting. She experiences a mix of better and worse days, but never truly great ones. There’s always something she’s contending with, which is incredibly tough.”

The insider also highlighted, “Despite the challenges, finding positivity helps Christina in the moment. She is surrounded by friends who offer their unwavering support, whether it’s listening, sharing tears, or just being present.”

This latest update follows news of Applegate, now 54, being admitted to a Los Angeles hospital last month.

It remains unclear if the reason behind her extended hospital visit has to do with her autoimmune disease at this time.

When reached for comment, a rep for the actress told Page Six: “I have no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are. She’s had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast.”

Applegate — who revealed her MS diagnosis in August 2021 — has been open about her health journey, giving updates via various interviews and her “MesSy” podcast, which she co-hosts with Jamie-Lynn Sigler.

Most recently, she admitted in February that she’s been confined to her bed due to ongoing pain. She made the confession while telling People that she still tries to take her daughter, Sadie — who she shares with her husband Martyn LeNoble — to school in the mornings.

“I want to take her; it’s my favorite thing to do. It’s the only time we have together by ourselves,” she told the outlet.

“I tell myself, ‘Just get her there safely and get home so you can get back into bed.’ And that’s what I do.”

Applegate last revealed she was hospitalized on an August 2025 episode of her podcast, sharing that she was “screaming” from being in “so much pain.”

On the episode, she recalled feeling like “my appendix is bursting” after she felt an excruciating pain on her side.

At the time, doctors informed her that she had a kidney infection that has since spread to her other kidney.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Face Relegation Threat Following Heavy Defeat by Leeds

Tolu Arokodare and Wolverhampton Wanderers find themselves teetering on the brink of Premier League relegation after a decisive 3-0 loss to Leeds United at Elland Road.

This defeat leaves Wolves anchored at the league’s bottom, with their hopes of avoiding relegation now reliant on the outcomes of other matches.

Wolves survival hopes hanging by a thread

With this win, Leeds extend their cushion to nine points above the drop zone, while Wolves remain in peril. Their demotion could be cemented if Tottenham Hotspur secures a victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.

Alternatively, Wolves’ tenure in the Premier League could also end if West Ham United manages to secure a point against Crystal Palace, marking the conclusion of their eight-year stint in the top flight.

Fast start condemns Wolves

Leeds asserted their dominance early in the match, netting two goals in rapid succession. James Justin broke the deadlock with an overhead kick following a defensive misstep, and Noah Okafor doubled the lead a mere 85 seconds later.

Despite creating occasional openings, Wolves lacked the attacking edge required to mount a comeback. Late pressure failed to yield results, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin sealing the win from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

Arokodare unchanged substitute for Wolves

Arokodare was an unused substitute during the encounter, with Adam Armstrong preferred to lead the line for Wolves.

Wolves did threaten, with efforts from set-pieces and defensive contributions, but their inability to convert chances underlined a recurring issue this season.

Leeds close in on safety

The win continues a strong run for Leeds under Daniel Farke, following a recent victory at Manchester United and progress to the FA Cup semi-finals.

Leeds now sit on 39 points, a total that historically ensures survival at this stage of the campaign. Focus now shifts to maintaining momentum and securing mathematical safety in the coming fixtures.
