Teen Couple Allegedly Murders Five Family Members in Shocking Tragedy

0

In a shocking case that has left a community reeling, a teenager and her boyfriend allegedly embarked on a violent shooting spree, resulting in the deaths of five family members and injuries to two others. The father of the girl, who was ordered to be homeschooled by her parents, shared his disbelief over the tragic events.

The 15-year-old girl, whose identity remains undisclosed due to her arrest but pending formal charges, reportedly carried out these actions at multiple sites in East St. Louis, Illinois, on Sunday.

Her accomplice, 16-year-old Ja’ymeir Davis, was charged on Tuesday with five counts of murder, according to police reports.

The victims of this tragic incident have been identified by authorities as Devin May, 24, a cousin of the girl; Quentin Thompson, 21, and Shania Thompson, 25, her step-siblings; Patricia May, 74, her grandmother; and Cherie May, 49, her aunt.

Marcus May, the girl’s father, expressed his profound heartbreak over the incident, revealing that there were several warning signs leading up to the devastating shooting.

He claimed he received a call from his child’s mother five days before the shooting warning that she had run away from home and stolen her gun, reports the St Louis Post Dispatch.

May, who shares custody of his daughter, said his she had been repeatedly getting in trouble in school in the months leading up to the shooting, leading him and her mother to pull her out of school and homeschool her.

He said the move infuriated his daughter, who lived with her mother, and she had previously run away from home several times and stolen her mother’s credit card.

May added that his ex-partner warned him that their daughter was in a  disturbing group chat with her boyfriend and other teens where they talked about killing her family members, but he did not take the threat seriously at the time.

May said his daughter’s troubling behavior escalated until she stole the gun from her mother days before the shooting.

On the day of the bloodbath, he said the girl’s grandmother Patricia, who was killed in the shooting spree, had called her granddaughter begging her to come home and insisted she could ‘deal with’ her behavior.

May meanwhile said he contacted the boyfriend’s parents to tell them to get their son away from his daughter.

The girl’s mother then reported her missing and warned police that the gun was stolen, but days passed without them hearing from her.

On Sunday morning, May said he woke up to numerous missed calls and messages, and he knew something had gone terribly wrong.

Police said the victims were killed in several locations across East St. Louis, with Shania Thompson found in a car behind an abandoned property near May’s home.

Her brother Quentin was found nearby on the other side of Interstate 64.

The other three victims were all discovered at the Samuel Gompers apartment complex.

Two other people, who have not been publicly identified, were also shot during the violent episode, and sustained serious injuries but survived.

Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly said the events were a ‘targeted mass shooting’ and the teenagers have been arrested, however they have not been formally charged.

The Daily Mail has contacted the Illinois State Police for updates on their case.

May said the shootings have left him heartbroken, saying: ‘I lost my whole family in one fell swoop.’

He told KSDK that he is in disbelief that his own daughter would allegedly kill her own family members, and he ‘can’t show her no sympathy.’

Devin had welcomed a baby daughter just a year before the tragedy, with his wife Chelsey Gatlin saying in a touching tribute he ‘was a great father.’

‘A great person and a great man,’ she said.

Miranda May, Devin’s sister and daughter of Cherie, added: ‘He loved his family. I really don’t have no words to say. I can’t believe this. They were wonderful people with good hearts.’

She said the loss of Patricia, 74, was devastating, as she continued: ‘My granny is so loved. It just hurts to see that she was gone like this. It hurts so bad.’

In a GoFundMe set up to help the surviving family members, the deceased’s loved ones said they have been left ‘feeling broken and alone, not knowing where to turn.’

‘The media has called this tragedy a massacre, and the pain is compounded by the circumstances—two young family members were responsible for these devastating murders,’ the fundraiser alleged.

Boost Your Balance After 60: 4 Standing Exercises That Outshine Lunges

0

Achieving equilibrium is vital to minimizing the chances of falls and subsequent injuries.

>

Embracing the myriad changes that accompany aging can be challenging—there truly are many adjustments. Sarcopenia leads to a decline in muscle mass and bone density, while weight gain often tags along uninvited. Another key area to focus on is sustaining balance, which plays a crucial role in preventing falls and avoiding injuries.

We consulted with Jacob Siwicki, the founder and lead trainer at Siwicki Fitness. With certifications from NCSF and AFAA, Siwicki is a seasoned expert. He was ranked in the top 1% of global Equinox group fitness instructors in 2019, holds a degree in economics from Dartmouth, and has been recognized as FOX 5 DC’s fitness expert. Additionally, he was named the top personal trainer in D.C. in 2021. Siwicki shares four effective standing exercises to improve balance more efficiently than lunges, especially for those over 60. You can begin incorporating them into your routine right away.

“There’s often confusion between balance and leg strength; they aren’t interchangeable, yet both are essential. Strength reflects the force a muscle can exert—think about rising from a chair or climbing stairs. In contrast, balance is the nervous system’s ability to remain centered and respond swiftly to disturbances. It’s possible to be incredibly strong but still succumb to a fall, as pure strength doesn’t hone your reflexes or spatial awareness. Strength provides the means to arrest a fall, but balance prevents you from ending up in that precarious situation in the first place. Beyond 60, the combination of these elements is what ensures stability and keeps individuals from visiting the ER,” Siwicki emphasizes.

Emotional Ceremony as Graham’s Sister Steps into Late Brother’s Legislature Role

0

In a significant political development, Darline Graham Nordone has assumed the position of her late brother, South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 71. She will now represent South Carolina in Washington D.C.

Before the official ceremony, Nordone was seen wiping away tears in a solemn moment, as she paused at her brother’s Senate desk, which was adorned with a black drape in his memory.

Nordone’s brief appearance on the Senate floor included being officially sworn in by Iowa’s Senator Chuck Grassley. She is entrusted with completing the remainder of her brother’s term in office.

During the swearing-in, Tim Scott, a fellow senator from South Carolina and a long-time friend of Lindsey Graham, stood supportively by Nordone’s side. She chose not to make any statements to the Senate chamber afterward.

While it is not unusual for a family member to step into a vacated Senate seat, Nordone, at 62, marks a historical first by becoming the first sibling to assume such a role following the death of a senator.

All other previous appointments have been either spouses or children.

Her new Republican colleague, Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, was appointed by her father Frank Murkowski, after he ran for governor and resigned from the Senate.

House Republican Julia Letlow, who is the GOP nominee for US Senate in Louisiana this year, took over the seat of her former husband Luke in a special election after he passed away from COVID in 2021 before he could be sworn in to the office.

With support of President Donald Trump, South Carolina Republican Governor Henry McMaster appointed Nordone to finish out Graham’s term, which expires in January.

To fill the seat permanently, the Republicans have a primary scheduled for August 11. That contest will advance to a runoff on August 25 if no single candidate wins a majority of votes.

Graham’s sister told reporters that it was ‘a privilege’ to help finish Graham’s ‘important work.’

‘My brother was the most amazing person, outstanding leader, and just a genuinely good man,’ she said.

‘I think this is what Lindsey would have wanted, and I plan to honor him in this way.’

President Trump commended the decision to pick Nordone, saying the appointment is a ‘fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly.’

Nordone and Graham enjoyed a close relationship.  He adopted her at the age of 22 when she was just 13, after the passing of both of their parents. She has never served in public office before.

The siblings grew up sharing a single room behind the Sanitary Cafe, the bar, pool hall, and liquor store their parents ran on Main Street in the small town of Central, South Carolina.

The family later moved into a trailer and then a house next door to the bar.

Darline leaned on her big brother long before they were orphaned, running to him whenever she was sick or stuck on her homework.

He taught her to ride a bike, sprinting alongside and shouting encouragement, and picked her up when she fell.

‘He’s kind of like a brother, a father and a mother rolled into one,’ she told the New York Times in 2015.

Their mother died of Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1976, and a heart attack claimed their father a little more than a year later.

Darline moved in with an aunt and uncle while Graham finished his studies at the University of South Carolina.

He gave up his weekends to travel home and care for her while his classmates stayed on campus to enjoy themselves.

Darline tearfully recalled the day they were left orphaned in a recent ad for Graham's re-election campaign. 'Lindsey came running in and just grabbed me up and hugged me. He was like, "I am so sorry, but it's going to be OK. I¿m going to take care of you." And he did. He¿s always been there for me'

He then enlisted in the Air Force, where his guardianship of Darline allowed her to qualify for his benefits, and she has credited him with getting her through high school and on to college.

She went on to become a mother of two and built a career helping people with disabilities find work, a success her brother wore as a badge of honor.

‘Of all the things that have happened in my life, her turning out so well is the highlight of it by far,’ Graham told C-SPAN in 2015.

Darline introduced him on stage when he launched his White House bid in their hometown in 2015.

‘Lindsey was always my parent,’ she said at the time. ‘There was no doubt in my mind or anyone else’s mind that Lindsey was my guardian.’

The vacancy for South Carolina’s Senate seat was created by Graham’s unexpected death, which was announced just after 2am Eastern time Sunday morning.

Per a statement issued by his office just before 5pm that day, ‘aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease,’ was the cause of death.

‘The death certificate will be PENDING until all the toxicological and microscopic testing are finalized, and at that point the death certificate will be updated to reflect the cause of death and appropriately classify the manner of death,’ Graham’s spokesman added.

A 911 call for ‘cardiac arrest’ was placed from Graham’s residence around 8.30pm on Saturday evening.

74-Year-Old to Become Florida’s Oldest Executed Inmate for 1982 Teen Murder

0

A man, aged 74, is slated to become the oldest prisoner to face execution in Florida’s records.

Dennis Sochor was convicted of kidnapping and first-degree murder when 18-year-old Patricia Gifford rejected his advances on January 1, 1982. He’s been on death row since the 1980s and now, following a denial from the Supreme Court on his appeal, is scheduled for execution this Tuesday.

The execution is set to be carried out using a tri-drug protocol, beginning at 6 p.m. at Florida State Prison, located in Bradford County.

According to Fox 13, Sochor encountered Gifford at a bar where she was celebrating New Year’s Day in the Fort Lauderdale area, with his brother accompanying him.

The group talked through the night but Gifford left with Sochor and his brother to get breakfast. Sochor drove his truck to a secluded area and asked Gifford if she wanted to have sex, to which she refused. Sochor then attacked the then-teenager, according to investigators.

Sochor was arrested in 1986 on unrelated charges and extradited to Florida, where he confessed to choking Gifford and disposing of her body.

In 1987, a jury convicted Sochor of first-degree murder and kidnapping, and was sentenced to death.

While Sochor will be the oldest inmate in Florida who has been executed, an 80-year-old prisoner is scheduled to be executed later in July.

Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel Defends Position Amid Scandal Allegations

0

Amid speculation about his future, Michigan’s athletic director, Warde Manuel, stands firm in defending his track record, despite an active investigation putting his position at risk.

On Monday, ESPN revealed that Michigan’s board of regents is set to delve into an inquiry regarding the culture within the university’s athletic department, which will also include discussions about Manuel’s role.

The probe was initiated last December, following the dismissal of football coach Sherrone Moore, who was terminated due to an inappropriate conduct involving a fellow staff member.

“I’m not seeking recognition for Michigan’s achievements,” Manuel expressed to The Michigan Insider, “but I refuse to let people claim that all the progress occurred in spite of Warde Manuel.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his position, Manuel has asserted he wishes to remain at Michigan. However, he acknowledges engaging in multiple discussions with the university’s leadership regarding a possible contract buyout, given the precarious situation.

He has four years left on a contract extension he signed in December 2024, with an average annual compensation of $2.4 million, according to ESPN.

“I love this place,” Manuel said. “My blood, sweat and tears are somewhere in Michigan Stadium and on the fields of play and in Schembechler Hall and on the track. … So if it’s up to me to face the challenges that I face to help the student-athletes, the coaches, the staff to be successful, then that’s the challenges I’m going to face.

“Nobody said this job was going to be easy. And whenever I leave Michigan, whoever steps in here next shouldn’t assume Michigan is easy.”

Manuel has found immense success on the field in Ann Arbor, winning a football and a basketball national championship since 2023.

However, off-the-field issues have tarnished the success and the school’s reputation.

Michigan’s football title in 2023 was sullied from controversy around former head coach Jim Harbaugh’s and Conor Stalions sign stealing scandal.

Then Harbaugh’s replacement, Moore, was fired in December for the his relationship with executive assistant Paige Shiver and his subsequent arrested for home invasion and stalking.

Michigan’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2022 Matt Weiss is also facing felony aggravated identity theft and unauthorized access to computers charges.

ESPN reports the investigation on Michigan’s athletic department, done by Chicago law firm Jenner & Block, cost over $11 million.

Manuel said he has not seen the full report, but thinks “99.9% of the people in this organization are working to do things the right way, and I’m going to work to not have them and this place be defined by those who have made bad decisions.”

“I don’t know what the future is going to be or how long I’ll be in this position,” Manuel said, “but I know I’m here today and I’ll be here tomorrow and I feel confident in the things I’ve done here at Michigan.”

Burke County Sheriff Faces Federal Indictment for Extortion Charges

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. — A federal grand jury has indicted Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams on serious charges including extortion and unlawfully transferring a firearm to a convicted felon, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia made on Tuesday.

Sheriff Williams, 55, who resides in Waynesboro, faces a total of five counts related to extortion under the guise of his official duties, in addition to a single count concerning the illegal transfer of a firearm to a convicted felon.

If found guilty, each extortion count could result in a prison term of up to 20 years, while the firearm-related charge could lead to a maximum sentence of 15 years.

It is alleged that Williams solicited and obtained payments from five different people in return for dropping pending DUI charges, with these acts reportedly occurring from August 2021 to April 2022.

Furthermore, Williams is accused of handing over a firearm in January 2023 to an individual known to have a previous felony conviction.

The case is being investigated by the FBI and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and prosecuted for the United States by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Tara M. Lyons and Timothy P. Dean.

Teen Allegedly Lures Pizza Delivery Driver to Vacant Home, Resulting in Fatal Attack

Following a pizza delivery to a home in Pennsylvania, a man was tragically killed by a teenager as he returned to his vehicle, according to officials.

The suspect, 14-year-old Sincere Camps, faces a multitude of charges, including murder, conspiracy, and robbery causing serious injury. Additional charges include possession of a crime instrument with intent and recklessly endangering another person. Court documents accessed by Law&Crime indicate Camps is currently held at the Philadelphia Juvenile Justice Services Center, with bail denied.

Authorities have identified the victim as Anshul Kuncha, age 28.

Philadelphia Police reported that Kuncha was lured to the 2300 block of Edgley Street around 12:30 a.m. on June 5. Local NBC affiliate WCAU stated that an order for three pizzas was made to an unoccupied apartment.

As Kuncha left his vehicle to drop the food off, two people in dark clothing reportedly followed him, a visual that could be seen on nearby surveillance video. The delivery driver dropped off the food, and as he stood outside the apartment, he was shot in the head and then robbed.

Police responded to the area to find Kuncha lying on the ground unresponsive. He had a gunshot wound to the head and was bleeding profusely.

The victim was brought to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Inside the apartment, cops found three pizza boxes and a bag that were seemingly untouched, a likely indication that the victim had dropped off the pizza right before he was killed, area ABC affiliate WPVI reported. Investigators also found three spent shell casings inches away from where Kuncha was found lying on the ground.

It is unclear whether another suspect is wanted in this case.

Camps had a preliminary arraignment in court on Saturday. He is scheduled to return on July 21.
