Australia vs. Egypt: Implications of a World Cup Victory for the Socceroos

0

Australia’s journey in the World Cup could become particularly thrilling if they manage to defeat Egypt. Such a victory would set up a potential encounter with one of the tournament’s standout teams, featuring arguably the greatest player to have graced the sport.

The stage is set for a thrilling contest as the Socceroos prepare to face Egypt at Dallas Stadium this Saturday at 4 am AEST. With both teams closely matched, this World Cup Round of 32 game promises to be one of the most fiercely contested showdowns.

This fixture is more than just another match; it is a pivotal moment in the footballing histories of both nations. Fans can catch the live action on SBS and SBS On Demand, or join fellow supporters at one of the many live sites across the country hosting screenings.

Egypt’s Pharaohs will be making their debut in a World Cup knockout stage, while Australia aims to secure their first-ever victory in this crucial phase of the competition.

According to the FIFA rankings, with Egypt at 26 and Australia at 28, the matchup is expected to be intensely competitive. A win for Australia could indeed elevate their World Cup narrative to new, spectacular heights.

Here’s how the Socceroos’ path to a World Cup victory could unfold (odds: 1 per cent).

The 46 per cent

The Opta supercomputer, which forecasts outcomes of sports tournaments, has predicted that the Socceroos have a 46.02 per cent chance of beating Egypt.

With a win, Australia will qualify for the Round of 16 and will play the winner of the match between Argentina and Cape Verde, who will face off on Saturday at 8am.

Opta predicts Argentina and its superstar, Lionel Messi, have more than an 87 per cent chance of winning that match.

1782967224225-6a8bab58-eb89-4c16-87f1-8468509ae38c-knockout-2608328.png

But Cape Verde has already achieved the impossible by qualifying from the group stage, after the tiny debutante nation stunned the world to draw with Spain, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia.

The Round of 16 match is scheduled to be played in Atlanta on 8 July, at 2am AEST.

The 11 per cent

Let’s consider the possibility that the Socceroos pull off a miracle and beat the winner of the Argentina-Cape Verde match.

Then they will have to fly to Kansas City to play in the quarter-finals on Sunday July 12, at 1pm AEST. Opta gives an 11.2 per cent chance of this happening.

The other team in the quarter-final will be one of Switzerland, Algeria, Colombia and Ghana. Opta gives Colombia the highest chance among the four.

The 4 per cent

There’s no harm in dreaming, so let’s dream on.

Let’s say the Socceroos make it past the quarter-finals — something the supercomputer gives a 4.47 per cent chance of.

They’ll then play the World Cup’s semi-final at 5am AEST on 16 July in Atlanta.

1782968702367-33ba362a-169d-453a-8982-d8463572643f-knockout-2608349.png

The other team in the semis will be one of Brazil, Norway, Mexico, or England, with the winners of Brazil-Norway and Mexico-England meeting in the quarter-finals on Sunday 12 July.

According to Opta’s prediction, Brazil has the highest chance of qualifying.

The 1 per cent

And finally, there is the 1.06 per cent possibility that the Socceroos beat all their opponents and qualify for the final.

The final will take place on Monday 20 July, at 5am AEST, in New York.

Opta predicts that France and Argentina have the highest chances of playing in the final, with France having a 45.44 per cent chance of winning the tournament.

Judge Halts Philadelphia Law Aiming at Masked Federal Agents

0

In a recent development, a federal judge has intervened to temporarily halt Philadelphia from implementing a new law that restricts federal law enforcement from using masks, obscured identifiers, and unmarked vehicles against federal officers.

U.S. District Judge Chad Kenney issued an order granting a preliminary injunction to prevent Philadelphia from enforcing the mask ban and additional restrictions on federal officers, just before they were scheduled to be enacted on Tuesday.

Judge Kenney’s ruling stipulated that city governments cannot dictate the operational methods of federal officers, favoring the Justice Department’s lawsuit filed last month, which described the restrictions as an “unconstitutional overreach” into federal jurisdiction.

Judge Kenney criticized the Philadelphia City Council’s decision to pass Bill No. 260060, arguing it attempted to bypass the Constitution’s explicit directives and ignore a legal principle integral to American law for more than two centuries. He referenced the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause, underscoring that federal law takes precedence over state and local laws when conflicts arise.

“Endorsing the City of Philadelphia’s position would mean … municipalities could decide whether to pass their own laws regulating how, when, where, and whether federal law enforcement officers can conceal their identities,” he added.

Philadelphia’s mask ban against federal officers was approved earlier this year as part of a larger legislative package passed by the City Council amid a national debate over masked immigration agents carrying out raids targeting migrants in communities across the country, with some of these agents documented shooting people, including two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis in January.

The measure applied to local, state and federal law enforcement officers, but Thursday’s injunction blocked Philadelphia from enforcing it against federal officers. The statute would ban covered officers from wearing masks or shielding their identities while on duty and interacting with the public, with exceptions including medical masks, religious coverings, certain tactical equipment and hazardous conditions. They would also be required to wear visible badges and use marked vehicles in certain circumstances.

The statute would ban federal officers from wearing masks or shielding their identities. They would also be required to wear visible badges and use marked vehicles.

Officers could be subject to civil and criminal penalties under the ordinance.

“This type of direct regulation of the federal government by a municipality is blatantly impermissible,” Kenney wrote.

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker, a Democrat, declined to sign the bill, saying the city solicitor’s office informed her it presented significant legal problems.

Kenney wrote that Parker “acted with civic wisdom and courage to stand up for the Constitution and follow the rule of law where it led” by not signing the measure.

But the bill was not vetoed and became law in May after Parker allowed it to take effect without her signature.

News Media reached out to the city for comment on Thursday’s ruling.

In a statement to Reuters, the Justice Department praised the court’s ruling and said the department “will keep fighting jurisdictions that try to obstruct President Trump’s immigration enforcement with policies that endanger agents and public safety.”

This is just the latest in ongoing legal fights between the Trump administration and state and local governments that have attempted to adopt mask bans or identification requirements affecting federal officers.

On Tuesday, a federal judge blocked a new law in Virginia barring federal law enforcement from wearing masks.

In February, a federal judge halted a California law that prohibited federal officers from wearing masks while on duty.

The Justice Department also sued New Jersey to block a similar mask ban targeting federal officers.

Tragic Accident Marks First Fatal Tesla Semi-Truck Crash

0

In Nevada, a tragic accident claimed the lives of a married couple in a collision involving a brand-new Tesla semi-truck.

Sergio and Jennifer Villanueva were the victims of a fatal crash during the early hours on a Sunday at a highway junction in Dayton, a city situated roughly 40 miles east of Reno. This information comes from local authorities and relatives of the couple.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department has reported that initial investigations suggest the semi-truck driver may have dozed off behind the wheel.

Around 7:20 a.m., the 10-ton Tesla truck collided with the Villanuevas’ Volkswagen Beetle, according to Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Trooper James LaRose in a statement made to Forbes.

Although the people in the Beetle were initially unnamed in reports, both their names surfaced in local news coverage and were confirmed by family members on Facebook.

The sheriff’s department said that a second passenger vehicle was also struck, and another individual was flown to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Highway Patrol said the two fatalities were pronounced dead at the scene. The Daily Mail has reached out to the department for an update.

The tragic crash marks the first involving Tesla’s new electric semi-truck. The model has only officially been on the road since March.

Tesla initially announced its plan for a battery-powered semi-truck a decade ago, but a series of delays and refocuses hindered its debut on the road.

Jennifer Bauer, a friend of the couple, told local ABC affiliate KOLO that the Villaneuvas volunteered with a local animal rescue.

‘They would have given the shirt off their backs, and there was nothing they wouldn’t do for anyone,’ Bauer said. She added that the pair ‘had a heart of gold’ and were a ‘positive light.’

Villanueva leaves behind a son, Sergio IV, currently attending college in Ohio. His son’s mother has started a GoFundMe to raise money to bring him home to mourn with the family.

‘No amount can replace the love, guidance, and memories of a father, but your generosity can help relieve some of the financial stress so Sergio can focus on being with his family and honoring his dad’s memory,’ the description stated.

The couple married in 2022 and were car lovers. Their car club, Untouchable Image CC, announced earlier this week.

‘We lost two family members this morning due to a devastating accident on Hwy 50. Sergio Villanueva and Jennifer Villanueva were both beloved friends, family, and club members,’ Untouchable Image said.

‘They will be missed and mourned by everyone lucky enough to know them. They were some of the most amazing people and were taken from their loved ones too soon.’

The driver’s identity has not been released, and authorities have not said whether charges will be filed.

Tesla has boasted about their new semi-truck. The company says the model charges four times faster than other electric trucks and costs $100,000 less.

DHL and Pepsi were among the pilot companies that began operating a modest Tesla Semi fleet as part of ongoing initiatives to reduce carbon emissions.

The Daily Mail has contacted Tesla and a relative of the Villanuevas for additional comment.

Revitalize Thigh Muscles After 60 with These Expert-Approved Chair Exercises

Keeping muscles strong is a crucial component in extending lifespan and enhancing overall life quality.

>

As you enter your 30s, there’s a natural decline in muscle mass and strength, with losses ranging from 3% to 8% each decade. This decline accelerates past 60 unless you engage in regular strength training. Layne Nordquist, Senior Vice President of Fitness at VASA Fitness, highlights the importance of activity with a simple rule: “Use them or lose them.” With that in mind, we’ve curated five chair exercises recommended by trainers to help rebuild thigh muscles after age 60.

“Aging often leads to a decrease in physical activity due to time constraints, injuries, or chronic health issues,” Nordquist explains. “Reduced activity means that muscles receive less stimulus, which can cause them to weaken. However, this doesn’t have to be your fate. Engaging in resistance training just two or three times weekly can help maintain—and sometimes even increase—muscle mass. Muscles are vital for mobility, fall prevention, metabolic health, and independence. They are also closely tied to a longer and better-quality life.”

You might wonder how something as simple as a chair could play a role in strengthening and maintaining your thighs.

Andrew Menechian, Co-Founder and Head of Fitness at FitCommit, brings over 12 years in the fitness world, shaping the careers of over 100 personal trainers across The Fitness Playground and Clean Health Fitness Institute. He shares, “A chair is beneficial because it provides support while still challenging you. The aim isn’t to simplify the exercises, but to allow them to be controlled enough so consistent training becomes feasible.”

Sit-to-Stand

Menechian says the sit-to-stand fires up the glutes and quads and directly carries over to everyday life.

  1. Begin seated at the front of a sturdy chair with your feet placed on the floor under your knees.
  2. Lean forward slightly.
  3. Try to stand up without using your knees, hands, or additional support.
  4. Use control to slowly sit back down.
  5. Perform 2 to 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps.

If You Can Master These 3 Bodyweight Movements After 60, You’re Stronger Than Most

Pillow Squeeze

“The adductors matter more than people think because they help control the leg toward the midline,” Menechian points out.

  1. Begin seated on a chair with your feet on the ground.
  2. Place a folded towel or pillow between your knees.
  3. Squeeze for a few seconds before releasing.

5 Bed Exercises That Restore Thigh Strength Faster Than Gym Machines After 60

Seated Marches

  1. Begin seated on a chair with your feet placed hip-width apart on the floor.
  2. Gently draw your lower belly inward.
  3. Slowly lift one knee up to hip height.
  4. Lower.
  5. Alternate sides in a “marching” fashion.

If You Can Do These 8 Lower-Body Moves, Your Leg Strength Is Elite

Chair-Assisted Single-Leg Balance

“Balance is one of the first physical abilities to decline with age, making this exercise especially valuable,” says Nordquist. “This movement strengthens the feet, glutes, inner thighs, and core while training the stabilizing muscles that help reduce fall risk and improve overall stability.”

  1. Begin standing beside a chair with one hand lightly resting on the back for support.
  2. Lift one knee up to approximately 90 degrees.
  3. Hold for 10 to 20 seconds before switching sides.
  4. Perform 2 to 3 sets per leg.

4 Bed Exercises That Restore Thigh Strength Faster Than Squats After 65

Standing Calf Raises

“Strong calves are essential for walking, climbing stairs, and maintaining balance,” Nordquist tells us. “This exercise strengthens the calves and feet while improving ankle stability and walking efficiency.”

  1. Begin by standing tall with your feet hip-width apart, facing a sturdy chair with your hands lightly resting on the backrest.
  2. Engage your core.
  3. Rise onto your toes slowly.
  4. Hold for 2 to 3 seconds at the top.
  5. Lower back down with control.
  6. Perform 2 to 3 sets of 12 to 15 reps.

Rhapsody Of Realities 3 July 2026: Build Yourself In Christ

Rhapsody Of Realities 3 July 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): Build Yourself In Christ

TOPIC: Build Yourself In Christ (Rhapsody of Realities 3 July 2026)

And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified (Acts 20:32).

Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:

In our last study, we touched on something very important: You’ve received Christ, yes; but you must continue in Him and be built up in Him. He said in John 8:31, “…If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.” Spiritual growth is intentional. It doesn’t happen by chance; the responsibility is yours to allow the Word of God to dwell in you richly (Colossians 3:16).

No one can grow for you. No one can build your spirit for you. Your progress in Christ is directly tied to your personal commitment to the Word. You may say, “I’ve read through the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation”; but reading isn’t enough. Remember the words of the Lord Jesus for us to search the Scriptures; Paul said to study. There’s a difference. Reading informs you, but searching unveils truth, and studying establishes it within you.

Until you move beyond casual reading, you won’t walk in the depth, authority and power of the Word. There’s more in God, so much more. As you give yourself to study, meditation, and the ministry of the Spirit, deeper revelations are unveiled to you. Your convictions become firm, your discernment refined, and your walk with God steady, consistent, and built on truth.

Remember, we win by His Word. You’re sustained by the Word of His grace, which is able to build you up and unveil your inheritance to you. That Word must dwell richly in you, shaping your thoughts, your responses, and your direction. So, don’t be passive about your spiritual growth. 1 Peter 2:2 says, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.”

The strength and stability of your Christian life are determined by the depth of the Word in your spirit. You’ve received Christ, that’s powerful; now build yourself in Him. Grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Be established in truth.

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for the Word of your grace that builds me up and establishes me in Christ. I’m strengthened, rooted and grounded in the truth of your Word. My life is structured by your Word, and I walk in ever-increasing grace and glory as the revelation of your Word floods my spirit and strengthens my faith, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY

2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Colossians 2:6-7 (NIV)
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, [7] rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Jude 1:20 (KJV)
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

Julian Nagelsmann Resigns as Germany’s Manager Amid Controversy, Jurgen Klopp Tipped as Successor

Julian Nagelsmann has made the decision to step down from his role as Germany’s manager following their disappointing exit from the World Cup at the hands of Paraguay. Adding to his troubles was a controversy involving the players’ family members that cast a shadow over the team’s performance.

At 38, Nagelsmann witnessed his team bow out in the round of 32 after a tense penalty shootout, prompting the German FA to urge him to resign. His departure comes with a £6 million settlement, and already, former Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has been approached as a potential successor to rejuvenate Germany’s football fortunes.

During a lengthy three-hour discussion held at the DFB headquarters in Frankfurt on Thursday, Nagelsmann was questioned on his strategic choices and the perceived overly relaxed environment within the camp. Ex-Germany captain Lothar Matthaus alleged that disputes among team members were sparked by distractions from the players’ spouses and partners.

Faced with these challenges, Nagelsmann chose to resign, though he was initially expected to guide the team in the upcoming European Championship set to take place in two years.

Julian Nagelsmann has quit his job as Germany manager after their World Cup nightmare - German media had questioned the presence of his wife Lena around the camp

Following Germany’s World Cup debacle, Julian Nagelsmann has resigned, with German media speculating about the impact of his wife Lena’s presence at the team camp.

Nagelsmann has attracted heat over the WAGs situation, sparked initially by questions about his own wife Lena Wurzenberger being around the camp.

Wurzenberger, 34, had become a talking point having been a ‘constant presence’ around the camp.

The former sports journalist, who switched job after being linked to Nagelsmann, was first spotted at Germany’s pre-tournament camp in Frankfurt, when she was pictured watching training from a balcony along with a host of the players’ partners.

Wurzenberger was then seen watching Germany’s substitutes complete their warm down after their 7-1 win over Curacao in their opening match and accompanied Nagelsmann back to the team hotel, before the duo were seen cycling to training together the following morning.

‘There is naturally always that feeling that when the boss’s wife is in the room, you might not always be completely honest at the table when talking about the national coach,’ reporters had speculated.

Matthaus said of the situation: ‘There’s a lot to process, both on and off the pitch. Wives, families, everyone was involved. Lots of headlines.

‘I don’t know why you have to involve all the families right from the start.

‘Then it’s about travel options, about hotel bookings. That was all a topic within the team. It never appeared in the media, but I know it was a topic of discussion.

‘One player was angry with another because one player’s mother was allowed to fly along, while another’s wife and children were allowed to fly. The others had to take a commercial flight.’

The partners of Kai Havertz, Manuel Neuer, Alexander Nubel, Nadiem Amiri and Leon Goretzka had been high-profile figures in the stands at the World Cup.

Now, it appears Germany will turn to former Liverpool manager Klopp – who is interested in the job.

Klopp was an awkward pitchside presence throughout the tournament, while Nagelsmann was under pressure, working on German television.

Speaking about the clamour for him to take over, Klopp said: ‘I haven’t thought about that yet.

‘I understand that my name is being mentioned now. But it’s not the time to talk about that.’

Kickstarting what appears to be their wedding festivities, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s weekend commenced Thursday night. Friends and family members were seen leaving a Manhattan hotel headed to Madison Square Garden, reportedly for a rehearsal dinner.

Among the familiar faces departing New York’s Ritz-Carlton were Swift’s childhood companion Abigail Anderson Berard, her long-time publicist Tree Paine, and several of Kelce’s relatives. Joining them were Joan and Don, Kelce’s aunt and uncle, adding to the familial gathering.

This comes ahead of the grand wedding ceremony, anticipated to take place at the same location the following day, with reports suggesting the couple expects around 1,000 guests to attend.

The NYC permit has fully disclosed the complete wedding timeline for Taylor and Travis, confirming the details of their much-talked-about nuptials.

Several prominent figures from Swift and Kelce’s inner circles also seemed to be in the city for the celebrations.

Selena Gomez was spotted preparing while seated in a vehicle, applying her makeup and wearing a strapless black dress.

Jack Antonoff, one of Swift’s closest musical collaborators, was also captured outside with his sister, designer Rachel Antonoff.

Sports broadcasters Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson were also observed amongst those thought to be attending the pre-wedding occasion.

Andrews has previously spent time with Swift and Kelce, including during a trip to Montana.

Among the other reported attendees were former NFL player Ross Travis, a close friend of Kelce, Little Big Town singer Kimberly Schlapman, San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle and his wife, Claire Kittle.

Kittle previously revealed that the couple instructed guests “absolutely no gifts” for the wedding.

Swift and Kelce’s respective families were also anticipated to feature in the celebrations. Kelce’s parents, Donna Kelce and Ed Kelce, and Swift’s parents, Andrea Swift and Scott Swift, were amongst the family members expected to be present, alongside Austin Swift, Jason Kelce and Kylie Kelce.

Jason Kelce previously quipped that he “may or may not” have been invited, highlighting the veil of secrecy surrounding the occasion.

The reported Madison Square Garden wedding would represent a landmark moment for Swift, who has graced the iconic venue’s stage on numerous occasions throughout her career.

Reports indicated that Swift is not expected to perform at the ceremony, with other entertainers set to take to the stage instead.

Swift previously dropped hints that her wedding would be a spectacular affair during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show in October 2025.

“It’s huge,” she said. “I’m so excited about it. I know it’s gonna be fun to plan because I think the only stressful weddings are the ones where you have a small amount and people are on the bubble.”

For the time being, the couple and their representatives have yet to publicly confirm the full guest list or the finer details of the ceremony.

Paris Teens’ Water-Gun Rampage: 14-Year-Old Hamza Arrested Twice for Targeting Tourists and Cyclists

0

Meet Dennis Le Menace’s modern incarnation.

In recent weeks, a 14-year-old boy has been causing a stir among French tourists and drivers, allegedly in pursuit of viral fame and playful mischief. He portrays himself as the latest must-see in Paris, much to the dismay of those seeking a peaceful visit.

Identified as Hamza F. and dubbing himself “Hamza La Douane” or “Customs Officer Hamza,” this audacious youngster has been apprehended numerous times for his disruptive antics along the picturesque Saint-Martin Canal since June 27, as reported by French newspaper Le Parisien.

With temperatures soaring across Europe during a severe heatwave, Hamza armed himself with a water gun and requested €2, equivalent to $2.29, from motorists for the privilege of being sprayed. His unusual demands have alarmed locals and tourists alike.

Drawing inspiration from corrupt customs practices in his homeland, Algeria, the frequently shirtless Hamza devised this self-appointed toll scheme. However, his antics have not been well received by his unwitting victims.

“In Algeria … when you pay the customs officers, they don’t search you … you can go on,” the boy the outlet “I’ve got the same idea.”

Hamza has found joy in his antics and has given little afterthought for his victims.

“Most of the time, I don’t apologize, I spray and I run away,” he said.

In another stunt, Hamza was captured on video shoving a bikini-clad woman into the canal as she was sunbathing.

Additional instances Hamza has gone viral for on social media include riding on an electric scooter with a stolen bar chair attached, throwing a chair into the canal, stealing a can of soda and spraying water at a police officer.

In another disturbing video, Hamza allegedly broke into a woman’s apartment and recorded himself insulting her.

“And the leftists talk about a nice boy who only does water fights at the Canal Saint-Martin… How long are we going to tolerate the actions of this scum?” French National Assembly member Julien Odoul asked on X.

The teen has been arrested at least twice in recent weeks.

He was busted for vandalism and group violence during his first arrest on June 27.

Four days later, police cuffed the teen and took him to jail on charges of aggravated theft, insulting officers, and resisting arrest, according to Le Figaro.

He was among three suspects who were captured when approximately 20 people were accused of stealing a phone before fleeing from officers.

Hamza allegedly laughed at his jailing, saying he can cool off in the air conditioning.

When not in police custody, the minor splits his time living with his mother and father in their separate houses around Paris

Hamza’s unidentified father has all but given his son his blessing to do what he wants, claiming the antics “doesn’t hurt anyone,” while leaving his mother in the dark.

“He leaves me alone because he knows I’m not doing anything bad. All I do is water people and the police from time to time. My mother doesn’t know about it,” Hamza told CNews, according to The Times.

Socialist and pro-Palestinian lawyer Elsa Marcel was hired to defend Hamza in his latest arrest, claiming the teen has been the “target of harassment, racist insults, and threats.”

“For several days, Hamza F., a13-year-old boy, has been the victim of a torrent of racist hatred following a media offensive initiated by far-right figures and then widely amplified,” Marcel said in a press release on Thursday. “A child’s water fights and games have thus become, in the space of a few hours, a national controversy.”

The far-left attorney claimed her minor client is the victim, failing to address any of the subjects in Hamza’s stunts.

“Called ‘scum’ and ‘thug,’ massively insulted and harassed. Hamza is now the target of hostile messages, threats and posts that violate his dignity on social media. This campaign has also exposed his family who have been publicly singled out and attacked,” she said.

Marcel threatened to file complaints against anyone who had insulted the teen.

Odoul blasted Hamza’s parents and French law for allowing the teen to continue his antics.

“In a normal world, the authorities would already have contacted Hamza’s parents and threatened to suspend their welfare benefits,” Odoubl said, according to The Times. “But in France, this young person quickly understands that there is no one to stop him: not parents, or the authorities or the police or the criminal justice system.”

Former Texas Educator Sentenced to 33 Years for Abusing Teen Student

0

A former educator from a Texas middle school received a prison sentence exceeding 30 years after being found guilty of sexually abusing a student aged 13.

Adriana Rullan, 30, was handed a 33-year prison term by a Webb County jury following her conviction for the continuous sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 14.

In addition, the jury sentenced Rullan to a decade for indecency with a child through sexual contact and an extra 13 years for engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student. These terms will be served concurrently, and she has been fined $20,000.

The convictions followed a brief, two-day trial in the 341st District Court, during which prosecutors presented evidence from six witnesses alongside numerous exhibits, such as text messages, photographs, and video footage.

During the sentencing phase, the victim, who was 13 at the time of the abuse, told jurors the abuse cost him his friendships, his sense of self and nearly his life, according to KGNS.

The victim’s mother also addressed the jury, blaming Rullan for her son’s depression and anxiety and describing the emotional toll the abuse had taken on their family. She told jurors Rullan was manipulative and should never be allowed to harm another child, according to KGNS.

The jury returned guilty verdicts after deliberating for less than two hours, according to the Webb County District Attorney’s Office.

According to the district attorney’s office, the investigation began Nov. 27, 2023, after the victim’s parents contacted the United Independent School District Police Department with allegations of an inappropriate relationship between a student and a teacher at Gonzalez Middle School in Laredo.

A forensic examination of the victim’s cellphone recovered electronic communications documenting the relationship and provided significant evidence supporting the charges, a spokesperson for the Webb County District Attorney’s Office told People.

Rullan was arrested the following month and pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Fitness Influencer, 42, with Facial Tattoos, Confesses to Assault Causing Facial Fractures

A fitness influencer, recognized for his distinctive face tattoos and alleged steroid use, has admitted to assault charges after an altercation in a Florida gym that left another man with serious injuries.

Wesley Watson, 42, pled guilty to aggravated battery in a Miami-Dade County courtroom on Thursday. The charges stem from an incident that resulted in Hakeem Ibrahim sustaining both a facial fracture and a concussion, as reported by the Miami Herald.

Watson, who boasts approximately 510,000 subscribers on YouTube, is well-known in the fitness community for his motivational content. Prior to gaining online fame, he served nine years in a California prison for a robbery conviction.

The altercation occurred on December 29, 2024, at the Elev8tion Fitness gym located on the 1600 block of North Miami Avenue, according to the media outlet.

During his workout session, Watson was confronted by Ibrahim, who had traveled from New Jersey to Florida specifically to address a dispute with Watson.

Ibrahim set up his phone to record the spat and pushed Watson, according to police.

Watson then removed his weight belt and proceeded to hit Ibrahim until an employee stepped in to break up the altercation.

Prosecutors are seeking to keep Watson in prison for 21 months, followed by seven years of probation, according to NBC Miami.

However, Watson’s legal team is still negotiating with prosecutors in an attempt to lessen his prison time.

One of Watson’s attorneys, Eric Clayman, said that discussions about his eventual sentence had taken a psychologist’s testimony into account.

The psychologist claimed Watson abused anabolic steroids, according the outlet.

Watson also had untreated mental health concerns, the psychologist added.

As part of the plea deal, Watson will have to record a video about the harm of substance abuse, as well as the importance of mental health treatment.

Clayman said Watson was looking forward to filming the video since he wanted to ‘use his platform to help others.’

Watson’s YouTube channel has remained active in recent weeks, though the videos have only featured still images and voice messages from the fitness influencer.

The spat that resulted in Watson’s plea happened in December 2024, but Ibrahim did not tell Miami police about a month later about his specific role.

He claimed that he had sought out Watson to find out why he ‘went around fighting people,’ according to the outlet.

Ibrahim alleged that Watson had hit and kicked him in the face several times, resulting in his myriad injuries.

Watson’s attorney, Clayman, noted how Ibrahim ‘sought somebody out because of his presence online.’

‘It then turned into something else,’ Clayman said, per the outlet. ‘I don’t think there was any dispute at the beginning of this that Wes was able to use force.’

However, the attorney argued that the ‘tricky part in this case’ was determining when said force needed to be ‘stopped.’

‘When you get in a fight, you kind of lose your way,’ Clayman said.

He claimed that Watson had experienced ‘adrenaline’ and that ‘things happen.’

Watson, who is in custody at the Metrowest Detention Center in Miami, is set to be sentenced on July 17.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Clayman and McPharlin for further comment.
