A courageous teenager from Alabama, grappling with stage 4 bone cancer, successfully journeyed to California for potentially life-saving treatment, thanks to a heartfelt video he shared online. Will Roberts, a 15-year-old, took to his mother’s Facebook page on April 22, making an urgent appeal to connect with lawmakers who could help bring an experimental drug to his small hometown.

In the video, Will explained, “I’ve had osteosarcoma for the past 16 months. It’s a very, very, very deadly and difficult-to-treat bone cancer.” His message conveyed the desperation and urgency of his situation, as he noted, “My chemo treatments aren’t working, and I’ve been battling this for a while now. I’ve tried almost everything available, and we’re nearing the end of the road. I need help.”

Will also described the toll his illness has taken on his family, particularly his mother. She has endured countless sleepless nights, tirelessly researching treatments and reaching out to senators, congressmen, and even the National Institutes of Health in a bid to find a solution.

This poignant appeal not only highlighted the challenges faced by Will and his family but also underscored the power of social media in rallying support and potentially altering the course of his treatment journey.

He also said that his mother, who had been lying in her bed, reading up on treatments as she continued emailing senators and congressmen – and even the National Institutes of Health – was having ‘sleepless, sleepless, sleepless nights.’

Her hard work seemed to pay off, as Will said she ‘found this drug that could possibly save my life if we get it in time.’

The drug, DeltaRex-G is an experimental treatment that shuts down the gene that cancer cells need to grow.

The National Library of Medicine reported that in some patients with advanced cancer, treatment with the drug has led to ‘long-term survivorship’ of 10 years or more.

‘I want my life, just as anybody does, but even if this won’t work out for me, if this drug can get out in the future, I mean, it’ll help hundreds of other kids,’ Will said.

‘I really want it to get out in time for it to help me, too.’

He then pleaded with anyone who saw the video to share it with either President Donald Trump or Robert F Kennedy, the secretary of Health and Human Services.

The video quickly went viral online, and Alabama businessman Ric Meyers – a member of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort – saw the post and forwarded it to the president, AL.com reports.

Soon, reports came in that Robert F Kennedy Jr saw Will’s message, as did First Lady Melania Trump and Barron Trump.

US Representative Barry Moore then made some calls and US Senators Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville took action.

The Roberts family also received a call from the President’s spokesperson telling them Donald Trump would like to meet Will.

Then, the family received a call from Dr Mehmet Oz, administrator of The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, who helped them get in contact with Sarcoma Oncology Center in Santa Monica, California.

The Roberts family was ultimately able to get Will an appointment at the California clinic, and his doctors back home cleared him to fly across the country.

They have since arrived in the Golden State, where Will is expected to receive thirty minute treatment sessions three times a week as his family splits their time between Alabama and California.

But the treatments will now cost the family $500,000, and Will’s mother, Brittney, said they have already spent $100,000 after medical expenses and the cost of travel and hotels.

An online fundraiser has now been set up to help the family, noting they would never ask for any donations.

‘This fundraiser is for the Roberts family, a family that would do anything for anyone – the kind of people who show up, lend a hand and open their hearts without ever asking for anything in return,’ it says.

As of Sunday evening, it had raised over $651,400.

Still, Will said he wants to work to ensure pediatric cancer patients receive any drugs that show promise delivered to their hometowns at a reasonable price.

‘I may not survive bone cancer. It might be too late,’ Will told AL.com.

‘But if I can help other children have future access to proper cancer drugs without flying all over the world to get them, I’ve done my job.’ 

In a critical editorial on Friday, The Washington Post editorial board took aim at Seattle’s socialist Mayor Katie Wilson for her dismissive remarks concerning the exodus of affluent residents and the increasing dissatisfaction among taxpayers due to rising rates.

“Just nine days after securing victory in Seattle’s November mayoral election, Katie Wilson stood alongside striking Starbucks baristas, vowing to avoid the coffee giant until their union demands were met,” the board noted.

“The socialist mayor might have to hold off on her coffee cravings a bit longer,” the editorial stated in a biting article entitled “Seattle’s mayor waves goodbye to prosperity.”

The piece underscored the evolving business environment, citing recent closures of Starbucks locations and the company’s decision to expand significantly in Nashville, Tennessee. This strategic move will result in the relocation of 2,000 jobs from the Pacific Northwest.

The editorial board also highlighted the impact of Washington Governor Bob Ferguson’s newly implemented “millionaire’s tax,” which enforces a 9.9% levy on annual incomes over $1 million.

“With the tax on the horizon, former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz announced that he and his wife are fleeing Seattle for Miami. Florida has no state income tax,” the board noted.

Wilson, a longtime progressive activist and co-founder of the Transit Riders Union, has faced significant heat for her past support of radical policies.

During her activist career, she notably championed a “Solidarity Budget” that sought to slash the Seattle Police Department’s funding by 50%.

The traditionally liberal newspaper did not pull its punches, describing Wilson as “arrogant” for her handling of the city’s economic concerns.

“Speaking recently at a Seattle University event, the mayor brushed off claims that taxpayers respond poorly to higher taxes. ‘I think the claims that millionaires are going to leave our state are, like, super overblown,’ Wilson said.

“‘And if — the ones that leave, like, bye,’” the editorial recounted, referencing a video of Wilson waving to the crowd.

“Her arrogance is increasingly typical of the state’s political elites,” the paper added.

The board warned that industry leaders are sharing these concerns.

In the piece, the board cited Microsoft President Brad Smith, who previously admitted he is “probably more worried right now about the business climate in Washington than at any point over the last 30 years.”

The controversial remarks took place during a “Governing Through a Progressive Lens” forum held at Seattle University’s Pigott Auditorium on April 14, 2026.

Appearing alongside King County Executive Girmay Zahilay, Wilson used the event — part of the university’s “Conversations” series — to double down on her socialist platform and the state’s recently enacted 9.9% tax on high earners.

While moderators and business leaders questioned whether the aggressive tax climate would hollow out the city’s revenue base, Wilson’s dismissive wave and “bye” comment have since become a viral flashpoint, fueling a growing debate over whether the city’s new leadership is intentionally purging its most successful residents in favor of ideological purity.
