Controversy Unleashed: SC House Members Push to Defund SC State University Amid Evette Scandal

In a significant political clash, nine members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pushing to withdraw funding from South Carolina State University following the institution’s decision to cancel Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette’s commencement address.

Initially scheduled as the keynote speaker for SC State’s spring commencement, Lieutenant Governor Evette’s invitation was withdrawn after student protests erupted over her selection. A petition demanding her removal from the event garnered over 20,000 signatures by Thursday afternoon, with organizers expressing concerns about her political views and affiliations as a gubernatorial candidate.

In response, a group of nine House members penned a letter to Representative Bruce Bannister, who chairs the House Ways and Means Committee. They urged him to exclude the university from state funding in the forthcoming revision of the state budget.

The letter stated, “Taxpayer dollars should not support a state institution where all South Carolinians are not welcomed. If our Lieutenant Governor is considered unwelcome due to differing political beliefs and concerns for her safety, it is time to reconsider the funding and purpose of such an institution.”

Representatives Gil Gatch, Thomas Beach, Jackie Terribile, Sarita Edgerton, Josiah Magnuson, John McCravy, Melissa Oremus, and Cally Forrest Jr. signed the letter, signaling a significant political stand on this contentious issue.

The full text of the letter can be read below:

Chairman Bannister,

We, the undersigned members of the House, are deeply concerned about the decision made by South Carolina State University to rescind the invitation to Lt. Governor Pamela Evette as the speaker at their upcoming commencement ceremony next week.

In recent days, we have seen widespread protests on the campus of SC State due to Lt. Governor Evette’s political stances. Protestors cited her opposition to DEI practices, her pro-life record, and being a “Trump Conservative,” among others.

It is shameful that a state institution, supported by taxpayer dollars, would capitulate and rescind an invitation to our sitting Lt. Governor – seemingly because some students do not agree with her political views. Institutions of higher learning are intended to be a space where young adults are presented with a variety of viewpoints and ideas, not center of indoctrination where conservative are not welcome.

In announcing their decision to rescind Lt. Governor Evette’s invitation, the university also explained that there were concerns about safety. It is inexcusable that a commencement speech from the Lt. Governor of South Carolina had to be canceled because her safety could not be guaranteed on a state-funded campus.

We are hereby requesting that no funding for South Carolina State University be included in the second version of the budget. There is no reason why state tax dollars should continue to fund a state institution where not all South Carolinians are welcome. If the Lt. Governor of South Carolina is unwelcome due to different political ideologies and an inability to keep her safe, it is time to defund and reevaluate.

Britney Spears Embarks on a New Chapter Post-Rehab Recovery

0

Britney Spears is embracing a new chapter as she returns home after completing rehab.

According to an insider speaking with Page Six on Thursday, “She’s doing really well.”

The source further shared, “She’s healthy, happy, and feeling very positive, eager to start anew. Rehab provided her with a great opportunity to find her grounding.”

We’ve learned that the 44-year-old pop star concluded her treatment last night and is “looking forward to a bright future,” following her DUI arrest on March 4.

Additionally, another source mentioned that she plans to “continue counseling remotely.”

The “Toxic” songstress checked herself into rehab for substance abuse on April 12 after she was believed to have been under the influence of a cocktail of alcohol and drugs at the time of her arrest.

Additionally, officers allegedly found an unknown substance in her car.

An insider told Page Six that Spears chose to enter rehab independently, explaining that she was “dedicated to working on her health.”

“This isn’t about one substance in particular, it has a dual purpose … this is about Britney putting her mental health first and taking some time for herself to focus on the things that are important to her,” a source continued.

On Thursday, Spears was officially charged with a misdemeanor for driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The Grammy winner’s arraignment date has been set for May 4, and if she is found guilty, she can be sentenced to up to 12 months of probation.

She might also be required to take a DUI class on top of paying mandatory fines and fees.

Spears, however, isn’t required to appear in court since it’s a misdemeanor charge.

Shortly after the charges were announced, the pop icon was photographed for the first time since leaving treatment in the passenger seat of a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon on Thursday.

Spears appeared relaxed while resting her feet on the dashboard as a driver took her around Calabasas and Westlake Village.

Crisis Nursery Seeks Overnight Staff to Address Critical Third-Shift Shortage

URBANA, Ill. — The Crisis Nursery in Urbana is facing a challenge that many organizations are familiar with: a shortage of staff. This issue has led them to temporarily suspend their overnight care services. However, there’s a silver lining to this situation.

Just a day after the nursery publicly announced the need to scale back its in-person overnight childcare services, an encouraging response followed. A total of 25 individuals have already applied to help bridge the staffing gap.

Meta Considers Halting Service in New Mexico Amid Legal Dispute Over Child Safety Concerns

SANTA FE, N.M. – The social media giant Meta has put forward the possibility of withdrawing its services from New Mexico. This comes in reaction to state prosecutors urging for significant modifications to Meta’s platforms, such as Instagram, with the goal of enhancing the mental health and safety of young users.

This development arises as a legal showdown looms, with a bench trial scheduled for next week to address allegations that Meta constitutes a public nuisance. This trial is the second phase of an ongoing case, which has already seen a jury impose $375 million in civil penalties, finding that Meta knowingly endangered children’s mental health while failing to disclose its awareness of child sexual exploitation occurring on its platforms.

Prosecutors are pushing for the court to mandate a series of reforms on child accounts across social media. These proposed changes focus on curbing addictive features, enhancing age verification, and preventing child sexual exploitation by implementing default privacy settings and increased oversight.

Meanwhile, Meta’s leadership has consistently highlighted their ongoing efforts to bolster child safety and address issues of compulsive social media usage. The company argues that it is being unfairly targeted, as there are numerous other apps that teenagers frequently use.

In a court document revealed on Thursday, Meta declared that meeting a proposed requirement for 99% accuracy in age verification to ensure users are at least 13 years old, along with other stipulated demands, is not feasible for the company.

“As a practical matter, this requirement effectively requires Meta to shut down its services — for all users in the state — or else comply with impossible obligations,” Meta said in the filing.

Such a shutdown across a population of 2.1 million residents in New Mexico could silence personal communication on Meta’s immensely popular platforms, which also include Facebook and WhatsApp, and also impact their use for commercial advertising.

By withdrawing from New Mexico, Meta would satisfy any concerns about harm to children, but the message could appear intentionally hostile and might lead to unintended consequences, said Eric Goldman, codirector of the High Tech Law Institute at Santa Clara University School of Law in California.

Goldman noted that Canadian authorities accused Facebook in 2023 of putting profits over safety after the platform blocked local news content during record-setting wildfires and evacuations. Facebook was responding to a newly enacted law that requires tech giants to pay publishers for linking to or otherwise repurposing their content online.

A Los Angeles jury last month found both Meta and YouTube liable for harms to children using their services, validated longstanding concerns about the dangers of social media.

New Mexico’s case against Meta is the first to reach trial among more that 40 state attorneys general who have filed suit against the company on claims it contributes to a mental health crisis among young people. Most are pursuing remedies in U.S. federal court.

“I highly doubt that they’re going to be willing and able to turn the lights off for their product all over the country,” New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez said in an online news conference.

Torrez disputed Meta’s argument that proposed changes are impractical, describing “before times” in an ever-evolving social media landscape when “we didn’t have infinite scroll and we didn’t have auto-play.” Torrez, a Democrat running for reelection to a second term in November, said he won’t be “turning a blind eye to exploited children in the state of New Mexico because people have an advertising contract.”

Beyond the U.S., other countries have implemented — or are planning — a bevy of restrictions on children’s online activities, ranging from social media bans to requiring younger teens to link their accounts to a parent’s. New Mexico also is seeking child-guardian links in the suit against Meta, as well as a court-supervised child safety monitor to track improvements over time.

Goldman said there are some countries that Facebook “doesn’t directly support in part because it’s just not worth it to provide that custom instance.”

“The cost of maintaining the separate service is greater than any value from that territory,” he said. “And that could be the case with New Mexico as well.”

Texas School Employee Faces Felony Charge Following Tragic Death of Student with Autism

0

A behavioral specialist employed at a school close to Houston has been arrested and is facing serious charges after the tragic death of a non-verbal student with autism.

In Harris County, Texas, a school behavioral specialist is under scrutiny, charged with a felony following a distressing incident involving a student with autism. This incident occurred at a school in Cypress, near Houston, as revealed by court records from Harris County.

Donald Cameron Perkins, the specialist in question, is currently in custody. He is slated to appear in front of a Harris County judge this Friday, where he will confront a charge of felony injury to a disabled child.

The unfortunate event allegedly took place a week ago at the Carlton Pre-Vocational Center in Cypress. Details from court documents outline the sequence of events leading up to this tragedy.

Surveillance footage, obtained by the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District Police Department, reportedly shows the non-verbal student putting something in his mouth while on a school bus. This video evidence plays a pivotal role in the ongoing investigation.

When the child entered a classroom, a school detective said, video showed Perkins allegedly push the child from behind, causing him to fall to the floor. Investigators said that push was not considered reasonable discipline.

About a minute after the child sat down, he began choking. Perkins attempted the Heimlich maneuver but was unsuccessful. The student was taken to a local hospital, where he died days later.

The district responded quickly after learning what happened.

“Upon learning of the allegation, the district took immediate action to remove the staff member and place the individual on administrative leave,” the district said in part in a statement.

The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District said it is cooperating fully with law enforcement.

The full statement from the school district reads:

“Student safety is our top priority. The district does not tolerate conduct that compromises the safety of our children, and we thoroughly investigate any allegations of staff mistreatment of students.

“We are currently investigating a serious incident involving a student and a staff member at the Carlton Center. Upon learning of the allegation, the district took immediate action to remove the staff member and place the individual on administrative leave. CFISD is cooperating fully with law enforcement to ensure a comprehensive investigation and will take all necessary actions based on the findings.

“’We are devastated by the loss of one of our students. My most sincere prayers are with the family, and we grieve alongside them during this heartbreaking time,’ said Dr. Doug Killian, superintendent of schools.

“Due to the active investigation and student privacy laws, the district cannot provide further details at this time,” the statement reads.

Britney Spears Faces DUI Charges: Latest Updates on Her Legal Battle

0

Pop icon Britney Spears is now facing formal charges of driving under the influence, nearly two months after her arrest. The 44-year-old singer, whose legal troubles have been closely followed, was taken into custody on March 4. Recently obtained documents from the Ventura County prosecutor’s office reveal that Spears is being charged with one count of misdemeanor DUI.

Currently undergoing rehabilitation, Spears is scheduled for an arraignment in Ventura County Superior Court on Monday morning. However, given the nature of the misdemeanor charge, it’s uncertain whether Spears will appear in person. Typically, individuals charged with misdemeanors are not required to be present in court, allowing their attorney to represent them instead.

This development adds another chapter to Spears’ ongoing legal saga, with her personal struggles and legal battles frequently capturing public attention.

According to the Ventura County District Attorney’s office, Spears – who is currently in rehab – is set to be arraigned at Ventura County Superior Court on Monday morning.

However, it remains uncertain of Spears will be appearing in court herself, as it is a misdemeanor charge, the celebrity is not required to attend and her attorney could make the appearance for her.

According to the Ventura County District Attorney’s office, Spears will be offered a ‘wet reckless’ which allows the person charged to plead guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol and/or drugs.

The plea bargain is reserved for defendants with no prior history of DUI, people with a low blood alcohol level, when there is no injury or crash, and when the subject shows ‘self-motivation to address underlying issues through rehabilitation or a drug and alcohol program.’

At the time of arrest, The Daily Mail revealed the pop star was taken into custody by California Highway Patrol at around 9.30pm on Wednesday night, March 4 in Ventura County after several 911 calls.

The singer, who was recently seen driving and behaving erratically was released the following morning, according to Ventura County Sheriff records.

Representatives for Spears released a statement in response to the arrest to Daily Mail in March which read: ‘This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.

‘Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.’

Her car was towed and impounded by Roy’s Towing in Thousand Oaks, California.

The Baby One More Time hitmaker seemingly expressed immediate remorse as sources said she was ‘crying a lot’ while being processed at the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office according to TMZ at the time.

When a person gets a DUI in California, their driver’s license is automatically suspended.

There is also potential jail time, a hefty fine of over $1,000 and mandatory DUI education programs.

A first offense typically involves three to five years of probation, a six-month license suspension and about six months of DUI school.

Lou Shapiro, who has handled DUI cases in Ventura County, California, told the Daily Mail that the DA’s statement was ‘unusual’ in outlining details not typically released prior to a defendant appearing before a judge.

’That tells me that this could be something they’ve already worked out with the attorney behind the scenes and what will happen next could be just a formality,’ Shapiro said.

The legal analyst said that the ‘wet reckless’ deal is a likely indicator Spears’ ‘blood alcohol level was below a 0.08’ in the March 4 incident.

‘She could’ve had some combination of alcohol and drugs in her system, but it wasn’t more than the 0.08 legal limit,’ Shapiro told the Daily Mail. ‘So, if she didn’t cause an accident or hurt anyone, then a wet reckless would be a fair resolution in Ventura County.’

Shapiro added that the ‘wet reckless’ aspect makes additional legal sense since Spears checked into rehab following the arrest.

It was probable that the legal team for the …Baby One More Time singer and prosecutors have been in contact regarding a potential resolution of the case, Shapiro told the Daily Mail.

That, in turn, would make the administrative aspect of the situation easier on the musical artist as she focuses on her rehab.

‘If they did, she could just have a waiver of rights form to take the deal, and she can even do that at her own home and have it notarized,’ Shapiro said. ‘The attorney could then bring all the paperwork signed and notarized already to the hearing on Monday so the case could be over that first day.’

Shapiro said it is likely that prosecutors publicly released the statement to be transparent amid the significant media attention focused on the A-list singer’s most recent brush with the law.

‘They are telling the public, “Look, we’re offering her this and she can take it or not,”‘ Shapiro said

He continued: ‘They wouldn’t want a situation where people will feel like she is getting better treatment because she is a celebrity. They are saying, “No, this is standard offer that we can make to anyone under these set of facts.”‘

On February 12, Spears was spotted behind the wheel of her Mercedes SUV taking a spin around Los Angeles, appearing to break the law as she held her cell phone to her face. (Talking on the phone is illegal in California under the ‘No Touch’ law, under Vehicle Code 23123.5). She was not charged in connection with the incident.

It was, however, not an isolated incident for Spears, who, in recent months, was filmed swerving into the wrong lane on a highway after a night out. At the time, sources feared she was ‘spiraling’ amid the release of her ex-husband Federline’s memoir. The two were married from 2004 to 2007.

Her history with the police also included being cited for a hit-and-run (misdemeanor) after hitting a parked car in 2007. This was dismissed after Spears paid an undisclosed sum to the owner, it was reported at the time.

She was also cited for driving without a valid California license in 2008, which was later dismissed by a judge.

In 2023, law enforcement visited Spears’s home regarding a video involving knives, but no charges were filed.

Spears has had very public personal struggles for nearly two decades: In 2007, the star famously suffered a harrowing breakdown after exhibiting worrying behavior in the months leading up to her infamous psychiatric hold.

The then 25-year-old popstar had fans concerned after she shaved her head and attacked a paparazzi’s car with a green umbrella – before checking into a rehab facility.

The Toxic singer suffered another setback after a disastrous performance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, where her performance of Gimme More was heavily criticized by both fans and critics alike.

Then, in January 2008, she was put under lockdown at a facility after refusing to hand her young son over to ex-husband Federline.

Heroic Rescue: Watch Officers Use Unconventional Tool to Save Family from Raging Floodwaters

0

Law enforcement officials in North Texas recently spotlighted a daring overnight rescue where officers employed quick thinking and an unconventional tool to save a mother and her children trapped in swiftly moving floodwaters.

Dramatic body camera footage, shared by the White Settlement Police Department, reveals the tense moments as officers worked tirelessly to prevent the woman from being swept away, while ensuring her children were brought to safety.

This harrowing event took place around 11:12 p.m. on April 25, amidst severe storms and flash flooding that had officers stationed throughout the city.

According to the department, Sgt. John Banner noticed a vehicle caught in the torrent, its front end wedged in a channel that led to a creek.

As Banner arrived, he found three small children outside the vehicle near the rising water and quickly moved them into his patrol SUV.

Their mother, however, remained stranded near the driver’s side door, unable to make it to higher ground as the current surged around her.

“I got you! Y’all get in the car!” an officer can be heard shouting in the bodycam video, as the woman cries out, “Help me! Help me!”

With water pushing against the vehicle and the woman struggling to keep her footing, officers quickly formed a plan to prevent her from being swept away.

“Don’t lose your footing… I need assistance!” one officer shouts over the rushing water.

Realizing they needed a way to secure her, the department noted that Officer Christopher Wiseman ran to his patrol vehicle and grabbed a pair of jumper cables.

“Well, this will have to work,” he said.

Officers instructed the woman to place the cables under her arms and around her chest, creating a makeshift harness while they held the other end, ready to pull her to safety if she slipped.

At one point, as conditions worsened, an officer can be heard saying, “Don’t let me fall in, man,” underscoring the danger facing both the victim and first responders.

As they held their position, officers radioed for fire crews, noting the woman was tiring.

“Her legs are getting tired,” one officer said. “I need a ladder.”

Firefighters with the White Settlement Fire Department soon arrived and attached a line to the stranded vehicle, slowly pulling it out of the rushing water and back onto the roadway.

The woman and her children were evaluated at the scene and were not injured.

Officials praised the coordinated response between officers, dispatchers and fire crews.

“I am grateful for the proactive response of Sergeant John Banner, his team of officers, our WEST COMM Dispatch Center, partner agencies and Fire Department during this dangerous situation,” Police Chief Christopher Cook said. “Law enforcement officers put the highest priority on the preservation of life, and this was evident based upon getting creative and using a pair of jumper cables to serve as an additional safety tool.”

City Manager Jeffrey J. James also commended the effort.

“What I saw during this rescue was brave police officers doing what they could to save lives,” James said. “I am equally proud of our entire public safety team who pulled together to provide the highest level of service to this family.”

Police said the mother remained calm during the ordeal and had earlier directed her children to move to higher ground — a decision officials say likely helped prevent injuries.

Following the incident, officials said each patrol vehicle will now be equipped with a water rescue throw bag to improve response in future emergencies.

Officials said the rescue was just one of several weather-related emergencies crews responded to that night.

“Our public safety teams were busy with the weather,” the department said. “From one water rescue of a family stuck in a car to multiple crashes and flooded vehicles along roadways with high water, your WSPD team worked hard with the fire department to ensure everyone made it to safety.”

Authorities also plan to reunite the family with the first responders involved in the rescue.

Officials say the incident serves as a reminder of how quickly flash flooding can become dangerous and how critical quick decisions can be in saving lives.

Tragic Case: Nurse’s Fatal Reaction to Wife’s Criticism Sparks National Conversation on Domestic Violence

A man from Georgia who took his wife’s life just weeks after their wedding will now spend his lifetime behind bars.

Benjamin Whitaker, once employed as a nurse, was convicted in March on charges of felony murder, malice murder, and two counts of aggravated assault. This week, the verdict was finalized as a judge sentenced him to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Whitaker faced the courtroom due to the tragic shooting of his wife, 25-year-old Tiffani Scarborough, which occurred shortly after their marriage.

Local CBS affiliate WMAZ reported from the courtroom that the couple had been married for a mere 59 days when Whitaker shot Scarborough five times before fleeing their Dublin, Georgia residence.

The Courier Herald, a local news outlet, covered Whitaker’s initial trial, highlighting the details surrounding his arrest. According to their reports, Whitaker and Scarborough tied the knot on May 1, 2021, after a year of dating. Both shared a profession in nursing, with Whitaker serving at Fairview Park Hospital and Scarborough working at a local OB/GYN office. Following their marriage, Scarborough and her young son moved into Whitaker’s home.

Tragically, just shy of two months later, on June 29, 2021, Scarborough was found dead. Her absence from work prompted two of her colleagues to check on her, leading them to discover bullet holes in the back door of her home. Alarmed, one of the co-workers contacted the authorities, who arrived to find Scarborough deceased inside.

Whitaker was found the next day in a wooded area by his parents’ house in a neighboring county. When he was interviewed by police, he told them that Scarborough “was chastising me about having a couple of drinks. That nagging set me off.” He told police that he went to their bedroom to retrieve a handgun then “I walked into the kitchen and I shot her.” The prosecution said Whitaker shot Scarborough five times.

Whitaker’s defense attorney told the court that the deadly act was “out of character for him.” He said Whitaker was taking Lexapro and Buspar for depression, which he suffered from after losing several patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. The defense told the court that the drug combination was “dangerous” and prevented Whitaker from knowing what was right or wrong at the time of the murder.

The 2025 trial ended in a mistrial, and a second trial took place in March. The same police interview was presented as evidence, as well as the defense’s argument that Whitaker’s “serotonin syndrome” caused a bad reaction to his medication. In the second trial, the jury found Whitaker guilty after three hours of deliberation.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Promises a Transformative Era

In a recent announcement on Truth Social, former U.S. President Donald Trump declared his intention to eliminate tariffs and restrictions on whiskey, in a gesture of respect for the visit of King Charles and Queen Camilla.

The royal couple is concluding their state visit to the United States, during which they received a warm reception from Donald and Melania Trump, along with numerous officials at the White House.

Trump’s social media post did not clarify whether the removal of tariffs was a direct request from the King or simply a suggestion put forth during their discussions.

“In honor of the King and Queen of the United Kingdom, who have just departed the White House and are on their way back to their magnificent country, I have decided to lift the tariffs and restrictions on whiskey. This move will enhance Scotland’s collaboration with Kentucky in the whiskey and bourbon industries, which are vital to both regions,” Trump stated.

He further noted, “There has long been a desire to achieve this, especially given the significant trade relationships involving wooden barrels used in these industries.”

“The King and Queen got me to do something that nobody else was able to do, without hardly even asking!

“A wonderful Honor to have them both in the U.S.A.”

Bronx DA Charges Alleged ‘Racetrack Pit Crew’ Thieves with $1.2M Vehicle and Parts Theft in NYC

0

In a series of audacious heists, a group of thieves executed a swift and precise operation, likened to the efficiency of a racetrack pit crew, to steal over 250 car parts and vehicles across the Bronx and other areas of New York City, prosecutors revealed on Thursday.

The Bronx District Attorney’s Office has charged at least 16 individuals, aged between 18 and 36, with a staggering 971 criminal counts. These charges stem from a crime spree that spanned from August 2024 to June 2025, during which they allegedly stole and sold auto parts valued at over $1 million.

According to prosecutors, surveillance footage captured 14 of the suspects, operating in masked teams of three, as they repeatedly exited a stolen vehicle armed with car jacks and milk crates.

These individuals, purportedly linked to the notorious Trinitarios street gang, allegedly employed power tools to swiftly remove tires, rims, and catalytic converters from targeted vehicles, often within minutes, under the cover of darkness between midnight and 5 a.m.

“These defendants allegedly operated with the speed of a racetrack pit crew in the dead of night, pilfering cars, tires, rims, and catalytic converters worth more than $1 million on the black market,” stated District Attorney Darcel Clark in an official announcement.

“All across the Bronx, people heading to work or school in the morning found their cars propped on crates, or an empty parking space, leaving them stranded and financially strained.”

Overall, 11 cars, 172 tires and rims and 69 catalytic converters were heisted from nearly every corner of the Bronx — and also slices of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, according to Clark.

The stolen cars were then used when the alleged perps dismantled other cars. A grand total of 252 cars were caught up in the massive theft ring.

Two of the defendants were alleged buyers of the stolen catalytic converters, which then were peddled on the black market, according to the district attorney’s office.

One of the buyers had $116,000 in cash stashed in a suitcase when authorities raided his home, prosecutors claimed.

Overall, $1.2 million worth of stolen property was involved in the heists.

“The theft ring was as brazen as it was effective,” NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a Thursday press conference.

Tisch said the department was logging more than 200 complaints tied to stolen car parts each month.

“And it wasn’t random,” she said, noting mostly Hondas and Toyotas were targeted.

“It was methodical.”

Alleged members of the ring have criminal histories tied to the Big Apple with most also having connections to the Dominican Republic, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, who did not reveal their immigration statuses.

The accused thieves were facing a slew of charges for criminal possession of stolen property, grand larceny, auto stripping, criminal mischief and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

So far, eight alleged robbers have been arraigned – while another eight are either still on the lam or awaiting arraignment, the district attorney’s office said.

Most who have appeared in court were granted supervised release.

“This was a large, well organized, gang affiliated crew of people who made it their job literally every night to go out and steal cars and car parts,” Tisch said.

“My hope and expectation is that there will be consequences for this type of behavior in the criminal justice system because frankly, if there are not, we have all just wasted a hell of a lot of time.”
