In an interview with TMZ, Hinckley Jr. called it “spooky” to learn that the shooting “took place at the same hotel as mine did.” He told the outlet he found out about the attack when a newsflash popped up on his phone, and he turned on the TV to follow coverage of it.

Hinckley said the security at the Washington Hilton is too “lax,” and the hotel should not be hosting large-scale events.

Investigators are considering foul play in the case of a missing grandfather from California, whose family discovered around $1 million missing from his financial accounts.
Nai Ping Hou disappeared from his residence in Rancho Cucamonga on March 16, 2025, under what authorities describe as “suspicious” circumstances, as outlined by the FBI.
The FBI has indicated that there are indications of “possible foul play,” given that Nai Ping’s bank accounts were significantly emptied before his disappearance was reported to authorities.
Wen Hou, Nai Ping’s son, shared with KTLA that his last encounter with his father was during a fishing excursion to San Pedro in March 2025.
“He was in excellent spirits,” Wen mentioned to KTLA. “He caught plenty of fish. His friends were there as well. He was very content.”
“He was in a very good mood,” Wen told KTLA. “He caught a lot of fish. His friends were there, too. He was very happy.”
But a few weeks later, Wen—a well-known hedge fund and cryptocurrency investor—said he noticed his father’s text messages seemed out of character, with Nai Ping often remarking that he was tired or pushing off phone calls.
“He had very short responses,” Wen added, “and didn’t share photos anymore over the course of those couple of weeks.”
His concern grew after Nai Ping refused to visit his son or his grandchildren at their Las Vegas home and didn’t answer calls on his May 3 birthday, according to The Los Angeles Times.
Investigators Find Fraudulent Banking Transactions, Missing Furniture in Nai Ping Hou Search
Wen suspected that someone else could be controlling his father’s phone and asked some family friends to go check on Nai Ping. When they arrived at the 74-year-old’s house, they found that someone had removed all the furniture and painted the interior, according to the news outlet. Plus, Nai Ping’s cars were missing from the garage, but there was no sign of him.
Detectives with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department also found evidence of suspicious banking activity.
“Detectives have determined extensive fraudulent transactions were conducted using Mr. Hou’s bank accounts around the time of his disappearance,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Furthermore, investigators believe Mr. Hou’s cellular phone was used by an unknown individual(s) who impersonated him to communicate with family members.”
As the months passed without any sign of his father, Wen created a website to aid in the search effort.
“They drained about $1 million from my dad’s bank account,” he shared in a video message. “That was all his retirement savings. We’re very devastated, and we’re deeply concerned for his safety.”
According to the website, there had also been “unauthorized sales of his vehicles, gifting of items and the attempted renting of his home.”
Wen added to KTLA that some of the money taken from the bank account was used to purchase gold online.
At the time of the disappearance, Nai Ping’s wife had been out of the country visiting family in China. She allegedly received a message from Nai Ping’s phone telling her to cancel her flight home and insisting he would come to Asia, The Los Angeles Times reported.
Wen suspects that Nai Ping may have been kidnapped by people who wanted to steal his father’s money and assets.
“The suspects are believed to be using sophisticated and deceptive tactics,” the family’s website noted, “and are considered highly dangerous.”
Nai Ping Hou’s Family Offers Reward For Information
The family is offering a $250,000 reward for any information that leads to Nai Ping’s safe return or to the arrest of those responsible for the disappearance.
“We’re asking for anyone who may have seen something or know something, even the smallest details, to come forward,” Wen said in the video message. “The family is heartbroken and we just want him back.”
Nai Ping is 5-foot-7, weighing 170 pounds, with grey hair that could possibly be dyed black. He has a birthmark on his upper left shoulder and a surgery scar on his lower back.
The FBI is asking that anyone with information on the case, reach out to their local FBI office or the nearest American Embassy or Consulate.

After that, spring herb ravioli, featuring herbs from the White House Kitchen Garden – planted by First Lady Michelle Obama – will be served, filled with creamy ricotta, earthy morels and dressed with a light parmesan emulsion.
The main course is fish – Dover sole meunière, prepared in nutty brown butter and served with spring ramps, sweet snow peas over potatoes pavé and finished with parsley oil.
For dessert, the White House chose to showcase the on-campus beehive that the King and Queen visited on Monday, serving guests a beehive-shaped chocolate gâteau with vanilla bean crémeux custard, set inside with an almond joconde.
The cake will be served with crème fraîche ice cream and the White House’s honey.
Trump only held two state dinners during his first term, with a third state dinner announced and then cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Michigan, the discovery of five deceased bald eagles within a fortnight has raised alarms, as environmental authorities determined their deaths were not due to natural circumstances.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources reported that all these federally protected birds were found in a concentrated area of the Upper Peninsula’s Garden Peninsula between April 3 and April 17.

Investigations revealed that the bald eagles’ deaths were not attributed to natural causes, predators, or collisions with vehicles.
In response, the Michigan DNR is appealing to the public for assistance in cracking this “troubling case.” They are also offering a potential cash reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to an arrest related to these eagle fatalities.
As a species safeguarded by both state and federal law, harming or killing bald eagles carries hefty fines and the possibility of imprisonment.
Violating the 1940 Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act can result in a fine of up to $100,000 and a possible sentence of one year behind bars for a first offense. Penalties can “increase substantially” for additional violations, according to the law.

Efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict with Iran have hit a stalemate, as U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with Tehran’s latest proposal. According to Trump, Iran communicated that it was experiencing a “state of collapse” while trying to sort out its leadership issues.
Iran’s recent offer suggested deferring discussions on its nuclear program until after the resolution of the two-month-long war and shipping disputes. However, Trump insists that nuclear concerns should be addressed from the very beginning, as relayed by a U.S. official familiar with the President’s Monday meeting with his advisors.
On Tuesday, Trump took to Truth Social to declare, “Iran has just informed us that they are in a ‘State of Collapse.’ They want us to ‘Open the Hormuz Strait,’ as soon as possible, as they try to figure out their leadership situation (Which I believe they will be able to do!).”
It remains unclear how Iran communicated this message to the U.S., and Tehran has yet to respond to Trump’s latest remarks. The situation continues to develop, leaving both sides at a crossroads in their diplomatic efforts.
It was unclear from his post how Iran might have communicated that message and there was no immediate response from Tehran to Trump’s latest comments.
Earlier, an Iranian army spokesperson told state media the Islamic Republic did not consider the war over.
Iran has largely blocked all shipping apart from its own from the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint for global energy supplies, since the war began on 28 February.
This month, the US began blockading Iranian ships.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards take greater role
Hopes of reviving peace efforts in a conflict that has killed thousands, thrown energy markets into turmoil and disrupted global trade routes have receded since Trump last weekend scrapped a visit by his special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner to mediator Pakistan.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi shuttled in and out of Islamabad twice during the weekend.
Since several senior Iranian political and military figures were killed in US-Israeli strikes, Iran no longer has a single, undisputed clerical arbiter at the pinnacle of power, which may be hardening Tehran’s negotiating stance.
The killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on the first day of the war, and the elevation of his wounded son, Mojtaba, to replace him as supreme leader, has handed more power to hardline commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Iranian officials and analysts say.
Senior Iranian officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters the proposal carried by Araqchi to Islamabad over the weekend envisioned talks in stages.
A first step would require ending the war and providing guarantees the US cannot restart it. Then negotiators would resolve the US Navy’s blockade of Iran’s trade by sea and the fate of the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran aims to reopen under its control.

Only then would talks look at other issues, including the longstanding dispute over Iran’s nuclear program, with Iran seeking US acknowledgement of its right to enrich uranium.
That would bear echoes of Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with the United States and other powers, which had sharply curtailed Tehran’s nuclear program.
Trump unilaterally withdrew from that accord in his first term. Now he faces domestic pressure to end a war for which he has given the US public shifting rationales.
Trump’s approval rating fell to the lowest level of his current term, as Americans increasingly soured on his handling of the cost of living and the unpopular war, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The poll showed 34 per cent of Americans approve of Trump’s performance, down from 36 per cent in the prior survey.
In the latest sign of strains between Trump and European allies, he said in a social media post that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz “doesn’t know what he’s talking about” regarding Iran.
Merz said on Monday that Iran’s leadership was humiliating the US and that he did not see what exit strategy the Trump administration was pursuing.
But Britain’s King Charles told the US Congress on Tuesday that despite uncertainty and conflict in Europe and the Middle East, the UK and the US, “whatever our differences”, will always be staunch allies united in defending democracy. He spoke at a time of deep divisions between the two long-time partners over the war with Iran.
Oil prices rise again
With the warring sides still seemingly far apart, oil prices resumed their upward march, with the World Bank forecasting energy prices would surge by 24 per cent in 2026 to their highest level since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine four years ago, if the most acute disruptions caused by the Iran war end in May.
At least six tankers loaded with Iranian oil have been forced back to Iran by the US blockade in recent days, ship-tracking data showed, underscoring the war’s impact on traffic.
Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani told state media on Tuesday Tehran was using northern, eastern and western trade corridors that did not rely on Gulf ports to neutralise the blockade’s effects.
Between 125 and 140 ships usually crossed in and out of the Strait of Hormuz daily before the war, but only seven have done so in the past day, according to Kpler ship-tracking data and satellite analysis from SynMax, and none of them were carrying oil bound for the global market.
Also on Tuesday, the US said it was imposing sanctions on 35 entities and individuals for their role in Iran’s shadow banking system, accusing them of facilitating the movement of tens of billions of dollars tied to sanctions evasion and what it said was Iran’s sponsorship of terrorism.
