Syria Removed from US Terror List After Decades as Trump Administration Opens Door for Investments

0

The United States officially took the step to remove Syria from its roster of state sponsors of terrorism on Monday. According to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, this decision dismantles the last significant hurdles to foreign investment and economic rejuvenation for Syria.

In his statement, Rubio explained that the action followed a mandated 45-day period for congressional notification, which has now concluded.

The path to this removal began in July when President Donald Trump informed Congress of Syria’s cessation of support for international terrorism, setting the rescission process in motion.

“Additionally, I have removed Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s (HTS) status as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT),” Rubio stated on Monday.

The actions, he said, represent “another historic step by President Trump to give the Syrian people a path to prosperity.”

Rubio said Washington had taken unprecedented steps over the past year to provide sanctions relief to the Syrian people.

He pointed to Trump’s June 2025 executive order, “Providing for the Revocation of Syria Sanctions,” which accelerated sanctions relief by terminating the Syria Sanctions Program and the national emergency with respect to Syria while directing reviews of other Syria-related sanctions and terrorist designations.

“These actions were all taken in recognition of the positive actions taken and further commitments by the Syrian government under President Ahmed al-Sharaa to fully distance Syria from acts of international terrorism,” Rubio said of the Syrian government.

Al-Sharaa ousted President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024 in an offensive led by HTS rebels. Syria had been on the State Sponsors of Terrorism list since 1979, with the designation in force throughout al-Assad’s rule.

“In the past year, the Government of Syria has taken significant steps to counterterrorism, to include formally joining the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS in November and conducting operations to disrupt the terror networks of ISIS, al-Qa’ida, Hizballah, and Iran-aligned groups,” Rubio said.

He added that rescinding Syria’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism and HTS’ designation as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist “eliminates the final major barriers for private-sector investment in Syria and promotes Syria’s economic recovery and reintegration into the global economy.”

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani told Reuters on Aug. 22 that lifting the designation would help restore Syria’s links to the global financial system and encourage investment following nearly 14 years of war.

“There is no longer any obstacle to investment, doing business and rebuilding economic life in Syria,” he said.

“Today’s action will help foster additional investment in Syria to promote political and economic stability,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also said in a statement, adding that it is “in line with President Trump’s promise to deliver sanctions relief to Syria.”

The governor of the Central Bank of Syria said Monday that lifting Syria’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism is a “historic step that returns it to its natural place within the global economic system.”

On Monday, Trump also posted a photo on Truth Social of al-Sharaa and al-Shibani holding his signed June 2025 executive order directing sanctions relief for Syria.

Cuba, Iran and North Korea remain the three countries designated by Washington as state sponsors of terrorism.

Enes Kanter Debunks False Claims About WNBA Eligibility

0

Enes Kanter Freedom is vehemently denying allegations that suggest he will be barred from playing in the WNBA, labeling such claims as pure “fake news.”

Reports emerged on Monday across various media platforms stating that the former NBA player would be excluded from the league’s draft. A source shared with Front Office Sports that the WNBA intends to avoid facilitating any efforts aimed at ridiculing the league or that could be perceived as undermining and demeaning individuals.

However, Freedom revealed to Stefan Bondy of The Post that he has received no official communication from the WNBA regarding any potential disqualification.

“There has been no word from WNBA officials,” Freedom confidently stated. “This is fake news!”

In an interesting twist, Freedom, alongside Royce White, who was picked in the first round by the NBA’s Rockets in 2012, has declared themselves as women eligible for the WNBA draft. This move comes amid the heated discussion around the participation of transgender athletes in female sports categories.

A league source described Freedom and White’s declarations as “simply publicity stunts” to FOS.

The WNBA has become the battleground in a culture war ignited when Fever player Sophie Cunningham told ESPN in an interview published in July she wants “to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”

Freedom was ejected from Wintrust Arena on Sunday night after getting into a verbal altercation with Sky star Natasha Cloud during a game against the Fever.

Freedom wore a shirt to the game that read, “WOMAN noun. adult human female.”

The ex-NBA player claimed to several media outlets that Cloud had shouted at him, “[Cunningham] is not going to sleep with you.”

In an interview with Laura Ingraham on Fox News, he repeated the claim, to the bewilderment of the host, who asked, “Are you trying to sleep with Sophie Cunningham?”

Freedom denied that he was.

“Definitely not, definitely not. I’m going to make this very clear, definitely not,” he said on the program.

2-Year-Old Girl Mauled by Neighbor Cop’s K-9: Family Seeks Justice

0

A family in Colorado finds themselves overwhelmed with medical expenses after a neighbor’s police dog escaped and viciously attacked their young daughter.

The Dean family was joyfully celebrating their twin daughters’ birthdays on August 11, 2024, in their backyard in Castle Rock, when a large black dog unexpectedly leaped over the fence and set its sights on their two-year-old, Lily.

This aggressive canine, named Ragnar, belonged to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and resided next door with Deputy Zachary Oliver, its handler. Recalling the terrifying moment, Lily’s father, Nick, shared with CBS News that he noticed the imminent danger and acted swiftly to shield his family and the gathered guests.

“I was on our upper porch when I saw the dog. I dashed down the stairs but reached just as it had already attacked Lily, dragging her across our backyard lawn,” Nick recounted to the news outlet.

Lindsey Speer, a family friend who attended the party, described the harrowing scene to FOX31, saying the dog took hold of the little girl’s leg and violently shook her as if she were a rag doll.

From then on, Nick said three male party attendees piled onto the dog in an attempt to stop the vicious attack.

‘When I was wrestling the dog, I could hear the cracking of her femur bone,’ Nick recalled to CBS News.

Lily’s father was also maimed while trying to save her, leaving them both with severe injuries that they say continue to affect them two years later.

A GoFundMe set up by the family to cover their mounting medical bills said Lily suffered deep lacerations across her stomach, along with a punctured femur.

Nick sustained injuries to his chest, neck, back and hip and continues to struggle with PTSD and other lasting psychological effects, per the fundraiser.

‘It’s just the combination of not feeling strong enough to protect my family, and the pain,’ Nick said.

‘The chronic pain is like having an operating system going on in the background that just never shuts off, and it’s tiring,’ he added.

Prosecutors charged Oliver, but a jury cleared him after his lawyers argued his county contract protected him from criminal liability.

Oliver has since left the sheriff’s office, while the K-9 was retired from duty. The Deans said the dog and its handler moved away from the neighborhood nine months after the incident.

The family also hoped the county would help cover their medical costs, but the family says they are now saddled with $300,000 in debt.

‘When the criminal proceedings turned into nothing, we thought, well, of course, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department is going to do what’s right by our family,’ Nick told the outlet.

A Jefferson County attorney told the Deans’ lawyer that the county does not use taxpayer money to cover claims when it has no legal liability.

The family’s GoFundMe had surpassed $67,000 in donations as of Monday.

US Rolls Out New Sanctions to Economically Isolate Iran

0

Scott Bessent, the United States Treasury Secretary, unveiled an aggressive strategy aimed at economically isolating Iran, escalating the US stance with enhanced secondary sanctions. He issued stark warnings to nations that opt not to align with this initiative.

On Tuesday, this announcement was made half a year into a conflict with Iran that has reached a standstill. The impasse is marked by stalled peace negotiations and Iran’s blockade of most traffic passing through the vital Strait of Hormuz.

Previously, Bessent described this move as an “economic D-Day” targeting Iran, though he did not specify which other nations might be involved, nor did he provide a detailed timeline.

Addressing the press, Bessent stated, “Our mission worldwide is to cut off every financial support network that enables this oppressive regime, until Tehran finds itself completely isolated.”

He further emphasized, “Our aim is clear — to hold every nation accountable, paving the way for economic suffocation of this regime.”

He added that countries not joining US sanctions would “share in the isolation” of Iran, and noted that US President Donald Trump was making phone calls to world leaders requesting they stop interactions with Iran.

The US treasury department said expanded secondary sanctions would target Iran’s digital assets, technology, gold, aviation and shipping sectors.

It also issued new sanctions against 60 individuals, companies and vessels that allegedly aid Iran in oil revenue generation, weapons procurement and cyber operations.

The sanctions hit entities around the world, including in the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, China, Singapore and in Europe.

Bessent vowed that any entity “that facilitates money laundering on behalf of Iran will be removed from the US dollar system”.

Iran had been dismissive of the threat of additional sanctions, and on Tuesday its economy minister predicted “another defeat” for the US on the economic front.

“We’ve been waiting for these plans for a long time, and the government is and was ready and has a two-year plan to manage these events,” Ali Madanizadeh said.

In a post before the announcement, Iran’s deputy foreign minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the latest US threats were an admission of military defeat.

Gharibabadi asked why, if the US had achieved its goals, “there is a need for ‘the largest financial invasion in history’ and the mobilization of ‘all institutions and powers’ of the United States!

“Is this a victory or an admission of America’s defeat?”

Decades of sanctions

Iran has weathered decades of crushing international sanctions, and before the war it continued to export millions of barrels of oil, mostly to China, and to evade sanctions through complex international financial networks.

Asked on Tuesday if Chinese banks would be targeted by the new sanctions, Bessent said “no one is above the reach of US sanctions”.

The US naval blockade of Iran has seen its oil exports via the Strait of Hormuz fall from two million barrels a day pre-war to just 0.4 million by mid-August, according to maritime tracker Kpler.

For ordinary Iranians, the standoff is likely to bring only more economic pain after years of rampant inflation, which in December and January fuelled massive anti-government protests.

Sarah Hassanbeigi, a 32-year-old pharmacist in Tehran, said: “I don’t think people can really take this much longer.”

The US announcement on Tuesday also suspended sanctions exemptions for payments to and from Iran related to the US educational system.

Pakistani delegation

Last week, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, considered a relative moderate, said Iran should “bring the war to an end now as we are in a position of power”.

That followed Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei appointing hardliners to key security positions.

On Monday, Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir — a key mediator in the conflict — visited Iran and met separately with Iran’s president, chief negotiator and the head of its highest national security body.

The meetings took place after Trump spoke last week with Munir, a US source familiar with the matter told the Agence France-Presse news agency earlier on Monday.

Pakistan was a leading mediator in talks that helped secure an April ceasefire that later fell apart. It is also a major trading partner of Iran, possibly opening it up to the threat of the new sanctions.

Oman’s foreign minister was due in Iran on Tuesday, as the two countries seek a deal on regulating passage through Hormuz.

Country Pub Breaks Silence on AFL Stars’ Controversial ‘Mad Monday’ Celebrations Involving Mocking and Spanking

0

The Garfield Hotel, which found itself in the spotlight during Richmond’s vibrant end-of-season celebration, has spoken out in defense of the AFL players amid scrutiny over their lively Mad Monday traditions.

On Monday, the Richmond Tigers made their way to the Garfield Hotel, located in the quaint township of Garfield, roughly 80 kilometers southeast of Melbourne. The players were spotted indulging in the typical festivities associated with winding down their season.

Mad Monday represents a cherished AFL custom where teams unwind and let loose after their final game of the season. Observers saw the Tigers hauling a cooler and enjoying their beers, all while engaging in spirited drinking games on the balcony of the pub.

In a released statement, the establishment shared, “Today, we welcomed the Richmond Football Club to our venue, and we can’t emphasize enough how positively they carried themselves.”

“Despite being a relatively youthful group, they were remarkably respectful and genuinely enjoyable to host,” continued the statement, praising their demeanor.

‘They enjoyed a few quiet beers to unwind after a long season, and we see nothing wrong with that.

‘They had booked out the venue for the afternoon, so they were the only patrons on site. They enjoyed their afternoon and moved on. In our view, this has been blown out of proportion.

‘Two members of the media were waiting on their arrival this morning and remained on site filming in the hope of capturing a misstep, which we consider disappointing.’

At one point, players were seen spanking the buttocks of a teammate in an apparent reference to the sexual assault allegations made after Sydney Swans players had a night out in Melbourne last week.

Richmond finished its last game with a 57-point loss against the Geelong Cats on Saturday.

They won three matches in the 2026 season, twice against West Coast and once against Essendon.

Tigers players were seen drinking pints of Guinness with eggs in them at the Garfield Hotel before taking off their shirts and sitting in the sun, some wearing local netball jerseys.

Other players were spotted whipping each other with belts, while another appeared to act out pole dancing.

Kane Cornes, a Seven commentator, described the belt-whipping as ’embarrassing’.

‘Firstly, what are you celebrating? It’s a team that’s finished 17th for the second season in a row,’ he said.

‘They won three games and you’re out during the day celebrating while your fans are hurting.

‘To be there with your tops off in view of the public is just nothing more than an embarrassment to me.

‘It’s not the first time Richmond have done it. They’re not the only club that dresses up like morons when it comes to this stage of the year, particularly for teams that have nothing to celebrate.’

There is no suggestion any of the players broke behavioural rules.

However, the sight raised eyebrows amid an investigation into another AFL team – the Sydney Swans.

Five players – Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, Nick Blakey, Riley Bice and James Jordon – were suspended last week for ‘breaching club standards’.

The sanctions are separate to a police investigation into a sexual assault allegation at East Melbourne’s Pullman Hotel on August 17.

The club found they had breached their standards by staying out late, drinking and bringing women back to the hotel.

No charges have been laid and all players have denied wrongdoing.

The Daily Mail does not suggest any of the players are involved in any wrongdoing, just that they spoke to police about the alleged incident.

Also on Monday, AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon delivered a strongly-worded statement at a press conference to kick off the finals series.

As the Swans crisis continues, Dillon said respect for women was ‘not negotiable’.

There have been several incidents over the past few years at Mad Monday celebrations that have sparked controversy about player behaviour, yet the tradition remains a strong part of club culture.

The AFL Finals Series is set to kick off on Friday with the wildcard games.

The Western Bulldogs will host Collingwood at the MCG for the first wildcard final on Friday, followed by Melbourne versus Carlton at the MCG on Saturday.

5 Game of Thrones Episodes You Won’t Want to Rewatch Again

0

This article contains discussions of sexual assault.

Describing “Game of Thrones” as inconsistent barely scratches the surface. Based on George R.R. Martin’s acclaimed series “A Song of Ice and Fire” and guided by showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the show made its HBO debut in 2011. Despite enduring a notoriously clumsy pilot episode, it quickly captivated audiences worldwide. Bright new talents such as Sophie Turner, Kit Harington, and Emilia Clarke became global sensations, while seasoned actors like Sean Bean, Lena Headey, and Peter Dinklage soared to new career heights. With a heady mix of sex, drama, and intrigue—not to mention dragons—”Game of Thrones” ascended to unparalleled popularity, reminiscent of the impact of sliced bread.

However, revisiting “Game of Thrones” can be a daunting task. A significant flaw lay in the necessity to outpace its source material by Season 5, as Martin’s progress with “The Winds of Winter” lagged behind. Under the direction of Benioff and Weiss, beloved characters and story arcs stumbled or vanished. Even die-hard optimists must concede the severe decline in quality from the Season 6 finale to the opening of Season 7—a narrative nosedive often compared to going over a cliff. This decline is especially evident for binge-watchers, though it seemed less prominent during the original broadcast, with long breaks between seasons.

Given this context, some “Game of Thrones” episodes have become virtually unwatchable in hindsight. Featuring offensive storylines and narratives that falter under scrutiny, here are five episodes that stand out as particularly problematic. Spoilers ahead!

Breaker of Chains (Season 4, Episode 3)

Right from the start, “Game of Thrones” delivers a shocking revelation about Queen Cersei Lannister, played by Lena Headey. As the spouse of the ill-fated King Robert Baratheon, portrayed by Mark Addy, Cersei shares a disturbing secret with her twin brother Jaime Lannister, portrayed by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Their long-standing incestuous relationship reveals that Jaime, not Robert, fathered Cersei’s three children, including Joffrey (Jack Gleeson), who ascends to the throne following Robert’s death.

Fast forward to Season 4 of “Game of Thrones” and not only is Robert dead and Jaime’s sword hand gone thanks to his time in captivity (replaced by a heavy golden Westerosi type of prosthetic), but now Joffrey is dead, poisoned at his own wedding. After Joffrey is laid to rest in the sept, Cersei, receiving him in the sept next to their son’s body, begs him to kill their younger brother Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), whom she falsely believes is responsible for Joffrey’s murder. What does Jaime do instead? He instigates a sexual encounter with Cersei, who resists … but Jaime keeps going and sexually assaults his sister and long-time lover.

This scene, which isn’t depicted as assault in George R.R. Martin’s books, drew plenty of controversy. The episode’s director Alex Graves told Vulture that there’s a consensual aspect to all of this, saying that Cersei “wraps her legs” around Jaime and is “kissing him aplenty,” but in the behind-the-scenes featurette for this episode, David Benioff is pretty blunt. “You see that Cersei is resisting this. She’s saying no, and he’s forcing himself on her,” he says. “It was a really uncomfortable scene and a tricky scene to shoot.” Not only is it weird that nobody seemed to be on the exact same page for such a difficult sequence, it’s really hard to watch.

Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken (Season 5, Episode 6)

When it comes to brutalized “Game of Thrones” characters, few figures suffer more than Sansa Stark. A captive witness to her own father Ned Stark’s (Sean Bean) beheading for a trumped-up treason charge in Season 1 who’s then tormented by Joffrey and forced to look at her father’s decaying severed head on a spike, Sansa hangs around in the Westerosi capital of King’s Landing as something Joffrey can kick when the mood strikes until, thankfully, Joffrey ditches a “traitor’s” daughter for the more “suitable” Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer).

Despite hoping to marry Margaery’s handsome (and closeted) brother Loras (Finn Jones), Sansa is, instead, ordered to marry Tyrion to ensure the Lannisters full control of her home in the North. Tyrion, to his credit, is exceedingly kind to Sansa (he absolutely refuses to consummate the marriage when she’s clearly unwilling, telling her he’ll commit to a life of celibacy if he must), but after Joffrey is poisoned at his wedding, Tyrion is falsely imprisoned, and Sansa flees with the aid of her suspicious ally Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish (Aidan Gillen), who carried a torch for her mother for years.

All of this is to say that the worst Sansa endures is when Littlefinger marries her off to the deeply sadistic Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon), who’s basically a worse, less-powerful Joffrey. On their wedding night at her old home of Winterfell (now invaded by Boltons), the two marry in the snowy Godswood before Ramsay brutally assaults Sansa in their chambers, forcing her childhood friend turned Ramsay’s captive Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) to watch. Even though some “Game of Thrones” fans think that the Season 6 scene where Sansa finally kills Ramsay — with his own hungry hunting hounds, no less — went too far, it’s way more watchable than this one.

The Dance of Dragons (Season 5, Episode 9)

During the original run of “Game of Thrones,” there was a running joke that you shouldn’t get too attached to any characters because they’re bound to meet a terrible fate; his was particularly true for Princess Shireen Baratheon (Kerry Ingram). Born with a touch of an incurable disease called greyscale (which will come up again), Shireen is a bookish, kind, and clever young woman who takes it upon herself to teach her father Stannis Baratheon’s (Stephen Dillane) favorite knight Ser Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) how to read. So what does Shireen get for her trouble? A violent, horrifying death.

Let’s back up. After his brother Robert’s death, Stannis insists — not without merit — that he’s the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, especially when you consider that Joffrey is illegitimate and Stannis and Robert’s other brother, Renly (Gethin Anthony), was killed in Season 2. Wait, who killed Renly? That would be Stannis’s resident Red Priestess Melisandre (Carice van Houten), who birthed a smoke monster to take Renly out; in the penultimate Season 5 episode “The Dance of Dragons,” she sets her sights on Shireen.

According to Melisandre’s “wisdom,” Shireen must be sacrificed to the gods to ensure a military victory for Stannis … and for whatever reason, he believes her. Stannis, his wife Selyse (Tara Fitzgerald), and viewers are forced to watch as a screaming, crying Shireen is hauled to a stake, tied up, and burnt alive, her dying wails providing one of the most upsetting sound effects in “Game of Thrones” history (which is saying something). The worst part? In the following episode, “Mother’s Mercy,” Stannis loses his big battle, and is killed point-blank by Renly’s former guard Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie). Seems like burning your only child alive wasn’t worth it, big guy.

Stormborn (Season 7, Episode 2)

We hear a lot about the incurable grayscale — which, if the spread can’t be stopped, turns you into a brainless zombie covered in a rocky layer of growths — but we only see two important characters who suffer from it. One, may she rest in peace, is Shireen Baratheon. The other is Jorah Mormont, a loyal lieutenant of the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), played by Iain Glen. After reuniting with Daenerys at the end of Season 6 — she briefly banished him, long story — and promising to rid himself of greyscale and survive despite the apparent impossibility, Jorah finds himself at Oldtown, and who does he meet? Samwell Tarly (John Bradley), a former member of the Night’s Watch now studying to become a maester.

In the second episode of Season 7, Sam tells one of the archmaesters that he thinks he’s found a cure for greyscale; unfortunately for everybody, the cure in question involves pulling off all of the infected lesions bit by bit. Despite warnings that he could catch it himself — and that Jorah only has six months left before it’s zombie time — Sam performs the procedure and is successful. So why is this all so unwatchable? It’s gross. No, really: it’s so, so, so gross. Watching Jorah scream in pain while the camera lingers on the scab removal is genuinely upsetting to watch, and even though it does cure Jorah (only for him to die in the following and final season), the process is pretty unbeatable to witness.

The Long Night (Season 8, Episode 3)

The long-awaited Battle of Winterfell episode of “Game of Thrones” was years in the making … which makes it even more of a shame that rewatching this episode feels absolutely maddening. As the show’s surviving characters prepare to battle the seemingly immortal Night King (Vladimir Furdyk) and his massive, undead army, a question arises: who will be the one to take down the Night King and his endless army?

The answer is that Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), who spent over a season training at Faceless Assassin School in Braavos (not its real name), who’s in possession of a Valyrian steel dagger that’s one of the only substance that can destroy a true White Walker, uses her silent stalking skills to sneak up on him as he’s about to kill her brother Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright), who is, by now, the omniscient and all-powerful Three-Eyed Raven. The first time you watch it, it’s thrilling. (Ramin Djawadi’s epic score certainly helps matters.) Narratively, though, this is all wrong. As “boring” as it might have been for Jon Snow (Kit Harington) to kill the Night King, Jon — one of two characters who ever came face to face with and killed a different White Walker besides Sam, possessor of a Valyrian steel sword, and unquestionably the better fighter between the two — should have killed the Night King. It would have been satisfying and closed a narrative loop. Now, we all just have to rewatch “The Long Night” and feel irritated at the lack of setup and payoff.

“Game of Thrones” is streaming on HBO Max now.

Top Standing Exercises to Effectively Tone Upper Arms After 60

0

Incorporate these standing exercises into your arm workout routine.

>

Achieving toned upper arms hinges on enhancing muscle mass in the triceps and biceps. While many fitness enthusiasts gravitate toward machine-based exercises such as the shoulder press, lat pulldown, and tricep pushdown, there are compelling alternatives worth exploring. Innovative strategies can be implemented, even from the comfort of home, says Domenic Angelino, MS, MPH, CSCS, CPT, Chief Exercise Scientist at FitCraft. Angelino suggests that, with the right equipment and a set of free weights, anyone can enjoy effective arm workouts outside the gym. He outlines five standing exercises that could help sculpt your upper arms more efficiently than conventional gym machines for those over 60.

“Standing exercises are brilliant because they focus on building the intended muscles while simultaneously engaging other stabilizing muscles,” Angelino explains. He adds that these exercises mirror the functional movements we perform daily. Consider a scenario where you reach for an item from a high shelf. This action primarily involves the arm and shoulder muscles, yet it also requires the core muscles to maintain stability and balance.

However, this doesn’t imply that gym machines are obsolete. They remain invaluable tools in strengthening targeted muscles, particularly useful for correcting muscle imbalances or honing specific areas that need extra focus.

Meanwhile, these standing arm exercises are incredibly beneficial and serve as an excellent starting point for enhancing arm strength and definition.

Barbell Curl

“The bicep curl allows you to directly isolate your biceps in a way that places a lot of demand on stabilizer muscles in your body,” Angelino says. “Barbell curls also allow you to use heavier weights overall, since your arms can work together to lift more, as opposed to each arm acting independently to lift its own weight, as you’d do during a dumbbell curl.”

  1. Stand tall with your feet roughly hip-distance apart.
  2. Hold a barbell using an underhand grip, hands shoulder-width apart.
  3. Activate your core and maintain a tall chest.
  4. Bend your elbows to curl the barbell up toward your shoulders.
  5. Hold briefly at the top and squeeze your biceps.
  6. Use control to lower.

5 Standing Arm Exercises That Smooth Jiggle Faster Than Weights After 45 (No Equipment)

Hammer Curl

“In addition to training your biceps, the hammer curl helps you build the brachialis muscle, which is a deep muscle underneath your biceps. If it gets bigger, it pushes your biceps outwards, causing your arm size to increase,” Angelino says.

  1. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart, holding a dumbbell or water bottle in each hand at your side with a neutral grip.
  2. Make sure your elbows stay locked to your ribs as you curl the weights up.
  3. Stop once your forearms are vertical or just past.
  4. Slowly lower.

Overhead Tricep Extensions

  1. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart.
  2. Hold a dumbbell or water bottle with both hands.
  3. Lift the weight overhead.
  4. Keep your elbows close to your ears as you slowly lower the weight toward the back of your head, feeling the stretch in your triceps.

Tricep Kickbacks

“If you keep your upper arms closer to your sides during a triceps exercise, you’ll prioritize the other two tricep heads instead. They may not be as effective at increasing how voluminous your upper arm looks, but they play a big role in giving the triceps its distinctive shape,” Angelino points out.

  1. Begin by standing tall, holding a dumbbell or water bottle in each hand.
  2. Hinge forward at the hips, keeping your back flat and your core engaged.
  3. Keep your upper arms parallel to the ground as you extend the weights behind you.
  4. Squeeze your triceps at the top of the movement.

Ex-NBA Star Slams WNBA Amid Draft Outcome Controversy

Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom is making headlines as he stands firm in his bid to enter the WNBA, even as reports suggest that the league’s leaders have decided he’s ineligible for the 2027 draft, allegedly leaving them feeling uneasy.

Kanter Freedom has stirred significant controversy in recent weeks by announcing his plans to enter next year’s draft, highlighting the ongoing debate about transgender athletes’ participation in sports.

On Monday, new reports suggested that both Kanter Freedom and fellow former NBA player Royce White, who also expressed interest in declaring for the draft, have been deemed ineligible to compete in the league.

This development unfolded just a day after Kanter Freedom was removed from a WNBA game following a confrontation with Chicago Sky’s Natasha Cloud.

During the match against the Indiana Fever, tensions flared when Cloud confronted Freedom, who was controversially positioned courtside, igniting a heated dispute.

In a viral clip of the incident, the pair could be seen shouting at each other before the former New York Knicks and Oklahoma City Thunder player stood up and held his arms out, while Cloud was held back by security.

On Monday afternoon, Freedom sat down with Fox News to discuss the ongoing saga. Responding to reports that the WNBA had ruled him ineligible, he said: ‘Listen, Article 13 Section 1 says if you identify as a woman, then you are allowed to play! I identify as a woman, so yes, I can play.’

He added: ‘They’re terrified because I might actually get drafted and play against their big men. I’m probably going to drop 60 points.’

In the WNBA’s current collective bargaining agreement, it states ‘only players who are women are eligible to play.’ But there is no specific definition of a woman.

According to Front Office Sports, a league representative said that the WNBA is ‘not going to give oxygen to efforts designed to mock the league or use this topic to demean and marginalize others.’

When it was put to the 34-year-old that he will never be allowed to play in the WNBA, he responded: ‘Why not? That’s the rules. I’m just following the rules.

‘If they ever come out and say: “Okay, we’re changing the rules.” I respect their decision, I will follow the rules. But right now, if you identify as a woman, you’re allowed to play. And I am identifying as a woman and I should be allowed to play.’

During his appearance at Wintrust Arena on Sunday night, the ex-NBA star wore a provocative t-shirt that included a definition of the word woman. ‘Woman. Noun,’ it read. ‘Adult human female.’ The words woman and female were highlighted in red.’

He was later kicked out of the game but on Monday, Kanter Freedom dismissed suggestions that he is banned from future WNBA games.

In fact, the 34-year-old claimed he would be attending every Indiana Fever game during the upcoming WNBA playoffs.

‘I have not heard it [about an arena ban],’ he said. If there is any news out there, please don’t listen to those sources because it’s all fake news.

‘I did not break any kind of rules. I did not step over the baseline, I simply got up and just opened my arms. So they should not be banning me from any games and I am so excited for the playoffs.

‘I cannot wait to go to every playoff game that Indiana Fever plays. It’s going to be fun because I’m a fan of the game.’

Fever games have been targeted by protests and counter protests in recent weeks after Sophie Cunningham sparked a war of words by claiming she wants to ‘protect young girls… who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.’

During his interview on Monday, Kanter Freedom branded Cunningham a ‘national treasure’ who ‘should be protected at all costs.’

‘She is an American hero,’ he told Fox. ‘Because she’s not only inspiring young girls in America but all over the world. So she is an idol, a hero.’

The 6ft 10ins Freedom previously alleged that it was Cloud who initiated their courtside confrontation and told him that Cunningham ‘won’t sleep with you.’

He told OutKick: ‘Sophie Cunningham shot a three, and I put my hands up to celebrate. Literally, a couple [of] possessions later, Natasha came back and started screaming and yelling and said, “She’s not gonna sleep with you.”

‘And I was like, “I am not trying to sleep with her. I’m just here to protect women and support her.” And then, obviously, after that, she started yapping, and she started to walk towards me, and literally I just got up, and then I was like, “I’m just here to protect women, and that’s all.”

‘She started to yell. She started to use some very heavy language. She started to actually cuss, and I was very shocked that there were a lot of kids and that there were a lot of teenagers at that game.

‘I just cannot believe that she was just cussing and using those F-bombs in front of all these kids. I’m sure she’s loved in Chicago and many kids are idolizing her and stuff, but that’s not how a WNBA athlete should react.’

Taking to X after he was removed by security, Freedom wrote: ‘I just got kicked out of a @WNBA game for supporting WOMEN! Let that sink in, AMERICA!’

He also wrote: ‘It’s always women hating on other women’.
