Rising Star: Wolters Thrives in Promising Move to Quad Cities River Bandits

DAVENPORT, IA (WCIA) — Embracing a significant leap in his baseball journey, Blake Wolters, once a standout pitcher for Mahomet-Seymour and now a 2023 second-round draft pick of the Kansas City Royals, inches closer to his Major League Baseball dreams.

Earlier this May, Wolters received the call up to join the Quad Cities River Bandits, the High-A affiliate of the Royals, marking a crucial step forward in his burgeoning career.

The move not only signifies career advancement but also brings Wolters geographically closer to home compared to his former team, the Columbia Fireflies in South Carolina.

Wolters candidly reflects on his initial challenges with the Quad Cities, admitting to being “Punched in the mouth” during his first outings. Nonetheless, he’s learned to compartmentalize, ensuring one tough inning doesn’t cascade into the next.

“The experience taught me a lot,” Wolters shared. “I honed in on my strengths and learned what needed fixing. Each week, I strive for consistency and improvement. Feeling healthy and confident, I look towards the rest of the season with optimism that things are on course for success.”

Wolters is 21 years old, going straight to the pros out of high school despite originally committing to Arizona.
