Celebrities Who Have Officiated Weddings: From Adam Sandler to Dwayne Johnson

Madison Square Garden congratulates Travis and Taylor on their wedding

Prominent Individuals

The wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce caught everyone off guard with its unexpected twists. While many believed their nuptials would feature a romantic, classic ceremony in Rhode Island, the duo veered off the anticipated path, choosing instead a dazzling event at Madison Square Garden in New York City, attended by 1,000 of their closest friends and family members. The surprises weren’t short-lived, especially with their choice of officiant…

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s nuptials left many astounded as they defied expectations. Most anticipated a traditional, intimate ceremony in Rhode Island following their engagement, but the couple instead orchestrated a grand affair at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden, with a guest list numbering 1,000. The surprises continued, notably with their officiant choice—comedian Adam Sandler, stepping into the role for the first time. Interestingly, the entertainment world has seen several celebrities take a turn at officiating weddings, for friends, family, and fans alike.

Adam Sandler married Travis and Taylor

Though Adam Sandler has charmed audiences for years with his memorable, quirky characters, he hadn’t ventured into wedding officiating until now. His close friendship with both Taylor and Travis led him to this unexpected role at their wedding.

While some fans assumed Sandler didn’t know Travis and Taylor until the Eras tour, that doesn’t seem to be the case. He’s praised Swift multiple times, insisting she means a lot to his family. Sandler and Kelce developed their own separate relationship on the set of Happy Gilmore 2, and he was happy to step in to take on the big job. Sandler is actually the perfect person for the role when you think about it; several of his films involve romance and weddings, and he has one of the most enduring love stories in all of Hollywood.

Sandler’s job as the wedding officiant kept the nontraditional theme in place. A statement from Swift’s representative also revealed that the couple skipped a traditional bridal party altogether. “Taylor & Travis did not have bridesmaids or groomsmen,” the statement read. “Instead, her brother Austin Swift served as Taylor’s Man of Honor and Jason Kelce was Travis’ Best Man.”

Adam Sandler isn’t the first celebrity to serve as an officiant

Adam Sandler’s turn behind the altar at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding may have been a first for him personally, but he’s far from the first celebrity to take on the honor. Over the years, plenty of A-listers have stepped into the role for friends, co-stars, and even total strangers.

Jonah Hill officiated the 2014 wedding of Adam Levine to Behati Prinsloo. Hill insisted it was his honor. Ian McKellen presided over his X-Men co-star Patrick Stewart’s 2013 ceremony to Sunny Ozell, and Benedict Cumberbatch did the honors for close friend Rob Rinder in 2013.

Stevie Nicks officiated Vanessa Carlton’s wedding to musician John McCauley, also in 2013. More recently, Carson Daly married his Voice co-stars, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani. That ceremony went down in 2021. Harry Styles even officiated his agent Jeffrey Azoff’s wedding, as well.

Several stars have served as officiants for fans, too. The Rock served as the officiant for a comedian and fan, as a surprise.

Heartfelt Vigil Unites Community in Tribute to Javeayah Harris

AIKEN, S.C. ()- In a heartfelt gathering, the residents of Aiken came together in an alley to pay their respects and remember Javeayah Harris. The community’s spirit was palpable as they united in support of each other during this somber occasion.

On Sunday night, Javeayah’s tragic passing became a symbol of solidarity for the people of Aiken, uniting them in grief and remembrance.

“The community is incredible,” expressed Dorothy Burton. “They’re here for a child they never knew, a little girl they’ve never met. Yet, their hearts are filled with love for her. We’re all here to express that love.”

Even those who had never met Javeayah felt a deep connection, as if she were part of their own families.

“It’s heartbreaking to think of a four-year-old unable to defend herself during such a tragic moment,” shared Steven Brown. “The pain, stress, and agony are overwhelming—it feels as if she were my own child.”

And the community will always be there for Javeayah’s extended family.

“You guys, I’m so sorry. Javeayah was a beautiful little girl and her extended community here in Aiken. We love her, and we’re praying for each and every one of you. And if you need anything, this community is here for you,” said Michele Tabler.

Donald Trump Creates a Viral Moment as Fox Films Him Watching Himself

0

In an amusing turn of events during America’s 250th birthday celebration in Washington DC, President Donald Trump was seen watching his own appearance on Fox News, mere moments before taking to the podium.

The broadcast showcased a live feed capturing Trump and First Lady Melania watching television that humorously displayed the backs of their own heads.

Just moments after that, Trump was caught using his cell phone camera to check on his hair and adjust his tie during the Saturday evening event.

This comical instance of self-reflection amused internet audiences, propelling the 80-year-old president into viral fame once more.

One individual commented, “He even waved to those watching him watch himself. I love our President,” while another remarked, “Probably admiring how good the back of his head looks.”

People were quick to dub the moment ‘Trumpception.’

Christian economist Robert P. Murphy chimed in that the commander in chief was ‘thus spawning the creation of an infinity of trumps, pwning the libs on america’s birthday in the worst conceivable way.’

Trump was surrounded on Saturday in his presidential box by his family and members of his cabinet.

First Lady Melania Trump was by the President’s side all evening, along with his granddaughter, Kai Trump, and his son, Donald Trump Jr.

Also spotted around him were notable high-level government officials, including Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Education Secretary Linda McMahon, and US House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson.

Not all who witnessed the instance of Trump watching himself on the television were thrilled with what they saw.

One person was quick to critique Trump, saying he was displaying ‘Narcissistic narcissism with a side order of self-indulgence.’

Another said that Trump watching himself ‘sums up this joke of a POTUS and his propaganda arm.’

The President’s speech kicked off just after 11pm, after hours of delays due to rain and lightning in the Washington area.

Cleveland Cavaliers Eye Potential Trade for Rising Star Bronny James

0

There are rumors swirling that the Cleveland Cavaliers are planning a warm welcome home for the James family.

NBA insider Jake Fischer reports that the Cavaliers are considering leaving a spot open on their roster for Bronny James. This strategic move could potentially entice LeBron James to sign with the team this offseason.

As noted by The Stein Line, there is a buzz around the league: the Cavaliers might be keeping roster spots flexible to facilitate a trade for the Lakers’ Bronny James. The goal? To possibly bring LeBron back to Cleveland as a free agent.

With LeBron having signaled his departure from the Lakers, speculation is rife about his next move. Among the options: a reunion with the Cavaliers or a surprising team-up with the Warriors, a former foe.

LeBron James has already had two successful stretches with the Cavaliers. His first run spanned from 2003, the year he was drafted, until 2009. He returned for a second stint from 2014 to 2018.

His first stint in Cleveland was a special time for LeBron, as he quickly became the most decorated player to don a Cavaliers jersey. He and his wife, Savannah, had the arrival of Bronny in 2004, when LeBron was 19 years old.

When LeBron left Cleveland in 2018, two years after he helped the organization win its first NBA title in franchise history, Bronny was starting to make a name for himself as a basketball player, emerging as a top young talent at Sierra Canyon in Thousand Oaks. Bronny went on to play college basketball at USC.

Bronny was drafted in the second round by the Lakers in 2024.

The James family made NBA history that season when the LeBron and Bronny became the first father-son duo to play together, a moment LeBron said he would never forget.

If LeBron is serious about reuniting with his former team, the chance to play with his son where it all started could be intriguing enough to lure him back to Cleveland.

Last year the Life & Beth actress revealed which weight loss drug worked for her after she previously tried Ozempic.

In March 2025 she took to social media to share her positive experience with the diabetes and weight loss drug Mounjaro.

She praised the brand, adding that it worked for her better than its competitor Wegovy.

The entertainer had previously revealed that Ozempic did not agree with her.

‘Three years ago, I tried Wegovy,’ she said online. ‘I was puking, I couldn’t handle it. I don’t know if they’ve changed the formula, whatever.

‘But anyway, I went on this Telehealth meeting with Midi Health, and it was cheap. I wanted to try it myself ‘cause I wanted to recommend it to my friends who are nurses and teachers.’

She raved, ‘My hair is fuller, my skin is better, I have more energy, I want to get down more, if you know what I mean — I’m talking about sex. So that’s been great and Mounjaro’s been great.’

Schumer and her ex Chris Fischer tied the knot in Malibu in front of 80 friends and family in 2018. They share one son, Gene, seven.

In December 2025 she announced their split, and filed for divorce in January 2026.

The Growing Appeal of Australia’s $350 Billion Investment Pool

0

Australians are increasingly investing in exchange-traded funds (ETFs) as a means of wealth-building, propelling the local market to a valuation exceeding $350 billion after a landmark year of new ETF launches.

Take Paul Webster, a Sydney resident in his 30s, who sees ETFs as a smart strategy not only for accumulating a house deposit but also for planning his retirement and diversifying his investments without the hassle of selecting individual stocks.

“It really comes down to recognizing how buying property is becoming increasingly out of reach,” he shared with SBS News.

“It’s also about consistently setting aside funds for the future. The longer my money remains invested, the more it benefits from compounding growth.”

ETFs are surging in popularity because they enable investors to gain exposure to a diverse array of companies, sectors, and markets through a single investment vehicle.

They can offer a simple, low-cost way to access diversified investments that are relatively easy to trade. Younger Australians are helping to drive the trend, with nearly one in five gen Z investors now owning ETFs.

Setting an annual record, 72 ETFs were listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) in the 2026 financial year, bringing the total number available to investors to more than 450.

Trading activity in ETFs increased by 26 per cent, outpacing growth in trading across the broader share market.

The ASX expects the number of ETFs available to Australian investors to grow to 500 by July next year.

What is an ETF?

ETFs are investment funds that trade on the share market like stocks.

Rather than buying shares in individual companies one by one, an ETF allows investors to buy a publicly traded single fund that can hold dozens or even hundreds of investments.

“It’s best for investors to think of an ETF as like a basket of investments that they can buy in a single trade,” Rory Cunningham, senior manager of investment products at ASX, tells SBS’ On the Money podcast.

“Instead of buying 50 shares, with one ETF, they can give you exposure to all 50 of those shares.”

ETFs can hold Australian and international shares, bonds, commodities and other asset classes.

A global trend

ETF investing has become increasingly popular around the world, and Australia is no exception.

Investors added more than $50 billion to the Australian ETF market in the last financial year.

“Across Australia, there’s more than 2 million investors that now hold ETFs, and they’re a combination of different types of investors,” Cunningham says.

“Younger investors, older investors, self-managed super funds are big adopters of ETFs as well.”

The US is the largest ETF market globally, with more than 4,000 ETFs listed.

Why are more Australians turning to ETF investing?

Casey Fung, a 37-year-old living in regional NSW, started investing in shares and ETFs in 2020, after the share market plunged due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I remember looking back on it a couple of years later and kind of going ‘Oh, I think actually the ETFs made more money over time than trying to pick the individual shares,'” he told SBS News.

Now, he generally opts for ETFs over individual shares. He prefers to invest rather than keep his money in a savings account, where he says the interest he receives just keeps pace with inflation.

Jerry Parwada, a professor of finance at the University of New South Wales Business School, says there has been a generational shift in the way people approach savings.

“For the older generations, arguably, when they thought of saving, the first thing to come to mind was a savings account,” he tells SBS News.

“Now that’s a thing of the past.”

For young people, ETFs can represent a way to invest $100 here and there, “at low cost over a long period of time”, he says.

But why wasn’t the ETF’s predecessor just as popular?

The concept of ETFs — as a basket of investments — isn’t new. Long before they came on the scene, investors used managed funds, or professionally managed portfolios that pool investors’ money.

Unlike ETFs, managed funds aren’t traded on the stock market, are generally less flexible, and can be harder for investors to understand.

Choosing the right managed fund often meant relying on personal research or paying for financial advice. Over time, many investors came to question whether these managers delivered returns that justified higher fees, Parwada says.

So, investors began looking towards a simpler approach known as index investing, by buying into a diversified basket of stocks that passively tracks a market index, rather than trying to beat it.

That’s how the ETF was born, with lower fees and easier access, Parwada said.

“So with ETFs you can invest as low as $100, whereas with managed funds, there are some funds [which require] a minimum investment amount like $5,000 to $15,000. That’s not something that the average investor will easily come up with,” he said.

Property market fatigue

In the meantime, Australians are finding it harder to get into property, says Danielle Kent, a senior lecturer of finance at the University of Sydney who specialises in behavioural finance.

She tells SBS News many aspiring homeowners in Australia now need to save for five to ten years for a deposit, when previous generations were more likely to be able to do so in one or two.

“That time horizon for saving for a deposit has just grown and grown and grown the last decade or so.”

She says that, with the rising cost of housing, simply leaving savings in a bank account is less likely to help people reach long-term financial goals.

“You want to park it somewhere where it’s going to grow over time, otherwise inflation will just eat it away,” she says.

She says ETFs can offer investors the potential for higher returns over the medium to long term, while still allowing them to convert their investment back into cash relatively quickly if needed.

What are some of the risks?

As with any investment, ETFs come with risks.

While ETFs can spread risk across a range of investments, they are still exposed to market risk and volatility and do not protect investors from a market downturn.

If the underlying market falls, such as Australian shares or US markets, then the ETF tracking those markets will fall too.

As a result, ETFs are generally considered better suited to medium and long-term investing than a short-term strategy.

Cunningham adds that not all ETFs are the same, and advises investors to “look under the hood and see what the ETF owns”.

“Some track broad markets, while others focus on a single sector theme or strategy, which may be more volatile,” he says.

“So it’s really important for investors to know what they own.”

Chicago’s Garfield Park Shooting: Seven Injured, Including Teens, in West Maypole Avenue Incident

0

CHICAGO (WLS) — Early Sunday morning on Chicago’s West Side, two separate shootings left seven individuals injured, among them teenagers, according to police reports.

Local residents indicated that the violence erupted after what they termed as the second “teen takeover” in a matter of just over two weeks.

In a video provided to ABC7, gunshots can be heard ringing out amid a significant crowd gathered in the 3800-block of West Maypole Avenue within the Garfield Park neighborhood.

Video captured a large gathering as apparent gunshots rang out in the Garfield Park neighborhood’s 3800-block of West Maypole Avenue.

Authorities reported that at approximately 1:25 a.m., a 17-year-old girl suffered a gunshot wound while standing outside in that area. She was critically injured after being shot in the chest and transported to Stroger Hospital.

Mere minutes later, around 1:34 a.m., gunfire continued to strike, injuring at least six individuals on the same block, police stated.

Two 17-year-old boys were transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. One was shot in the leg, and the other was shot in the neck.

An 18-year-old woman, shot in the buttocks and arm, was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

An 18-year-old man, shot in the leg, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

A 19-year-old man, shot in the foot, was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

A 20-year-old man, shot in the body multiple times, was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

Cell phone video taken minutes before the shooting shows a large gathering of young people setting off fireworks and blocking a small cul-de-sac street just off Garfield Park.

“Underage kids. Drinking, smoking. They found guns. They started shooting,” said Etta Johnson, who lives in the neighborhood.

Another resident, Thomas Johnson, described the chaos from inside the community

“We, the citizens here, we’re held captive,” he said.

Residents said the gathering began early, just after 10 p.m., and shared photos and videos showing crowds filling the street. Several said a similar incident occurred recently.

“It was unbearable. they are standing out. They are jumping on cars,” said Connie Mitchell, a Garfield Park resident. “We just had this happen, Juneteenth. They did it then.”

Trinisa Williams said she repeatedly contacted police as the crowd grew.

“My first call to police was at 10:52 p.m. I called pretty much every 15 minutes after that,” she said.

Police were already on the scene when the shooting erupted. Audio from police communications captured reports of multiple shooters at a large gathering near Maypole Avenue.

“The police are always outnumbered. But this was by far the worst. They couldn’t stop them,” Etta Johnson said.

Williams said accountability remains a major concern for residents. “The fact that no one is being held accountable is my biggest problem with that,” she said.

Neighbors said they feel exhausted and unsure how to stop the repeated gatherings.

“These kids think they are not touchable. They say you can’t do anything to them. you can’t touch them,” Mitchell said. “We’re begging. We’re pleading. we’re begging for help religiously. We have done everything we’re supposed to do.”

Justin Peters with violence interrupter group Chitown Crime Chasers says his team was on the scene alongside Chicago Police before the shooting began

“We saw a lot of people started running so we started to point the crowd in another direction to run to while me and my team were rushing towards the gunshots to find the victims and we located several teenage victims shot in the alley,” Peters said. “This is where the community must step in and parents must step in. Other organizations must step in to help so we can all work together,”

Alderman Jason Ervin of the 28th Ward denounced the gathering and called for those who organized it to be held responsible.

“I look forward to the police department and the City of Chicago’s Law Department going after these individuals. Because again, it’s not your personal playground. The street is not your personal playground,” Ervin said.

Ervin said police detained about a dozen people following the shooting, but no charges have been filed so far. Chicago police said the investigation is ongoing.

Alderman Brian Hopkins, Chairman of the Public Safety Committee has long argued the city needs stronger tools to prevent crowds from spiraling out of control.

“The police were already there, they were on the scene at this event, and that didn’t stop teenagers from taking guns out and shooting each other, even having the presence of visible squad cars right there,” Hopkins said. “Incidents like this just highlight even more the need for a good, effective police response. They need every tool that we can give them, including enforcing curfew.”

At about 1:48 a.m., a man was found shot to death just over 1 mile away, in the West Garfield Park neighborhood’s 4300-block of West Van Buren Street.

Police did not immediately say whether the three incidents are connected or what may have led up to the shootings.

Area Four detectives are investigating. Police did not immediately provide further information.

Teen Mob Attacks South Carolina Police During Chaotic July 4th Party Brawl

0

A chaotic scene erupted involving a group of teenagers assaulting two South Carolina police officers during a tumultuous altercation. The officers intervened at a perilous Fourth of July gathering where gunfire and fireworks were reportedly aimed at vehicles, according to law enforcement.

The alarming incident took place as officers tried to disperse festivities celebrating Independence Day in the Chicora-Cherokee area of North Charleston at approximately 8:30 p.m., stated the North Charleston Police Department.

North Charleston Police Chief Ron Camacho urgently appealed to the community. “We need some help,” he expressed. “We truly do. Assistance from the community is crucial because situations like these are escalating in danger.”

Authorities indicated that the city had originally sanctioned the event and had collaborated with organizers earlier to establish plans for parking and traffic management.

However, as night fell, the festivities took a perilous turn, with police reporting incidents of firearms being discharged and revelers recklessly firing fireworks at moving vehicles.

Cops said they initially tried to disperse the party, but their efforts were ignored, as fights broke out between carousers and gunshots were fired.

The scene quickly became violent when cops stepped out of their cars to stop the fighting – and soon found themselves being attacked by partygoers, according to authorities.

Police said multiple officers were assaulted in the bedlam, which included two cops who were viciously stomped to the ground by a gaggle of teens, according to video obtained by WSCS.

Footage shows one cop struggling with a youth who pushes her to the ground, before a friend socks the officer in the face and another hits her with a stick.

A fellow officer comes to his colleague’s rescue and pulls the unruly youth off his coworker, but is attacked by other youths, tasering one to disperse the growing crowd around him, video shows.

Police said that four people – three juveniles and one adult – were arrested at the scene.

Four guns, including two automatic weapons, and a homemade spear were also recovered from the scene of the party, cops said.

Chief Camacho blasted the adolescents during a press conference Sunday, saying their behavior was “the most difficult thing that I’ve had to deal with in my policing career.”

Camacho also called on the community to cooperate with the department and keep the unruly kids in line.

Transform Your Core: 5 Wall Exercises to Achieve a Flatter Stomach Faster Than the Gym for Over-60s

These exercises can be effortlessly done at home, providing convenience and accessibility.

>

Many gym enthusiasts encounter the common issue of boredom with their workouts. Changing up your routine not only injects freshness into your exercise regimen but might also be a more effective route to achieving your fitness goals. If your focus is on tackling belly fat, there’s insightful advice to consider. We connected with Jacob Siwicki, the founder and head coach of Siwicki Fitness, who boasts certifications from the NCSF and AFAA. A top-ranked Equinox group fitness instructor in 2019, Siwicki is also a Dartmouth economics graduate, a former Dartmouth football player, a FOX 5 DC fitness expert, and the #1 personal trainer in D.C. in 2021. He shares five wall-based exercises that can potentially reduce belly overhang more swiftly than traditional gym sessions for those over 60. The best part? These exercises can be done at home.

Siwicki emphasizes the importance of the transverse abdominis, a deep muscle that functions like a corset, providing essential support. He notes that the obliques at the waist’s sides and the front-facing rectus abdominis, often referred to as the “six-pack,” are less critical for support. “When it comes to building strength, focusing on the deep TVA is crucial,” Siwicki advises.

Wall exercises play a pivotal role in this approach. Siwicki points out that the wall offers constant feedback and a reliable surface for exercising.

“Working against the wall allows you to feel when your core muscles are activated, helping keep your spine aligned safely. This method lets you maintain muscle tension longer without causing neck or back strain, unlike traditional crunches. It’s a more accessible option for those over 60, as it eliminates the need to get up and down from the floor,” explains Siwicki.

If you’re looking to tighten and firm your midsection, these wall exercises are a stellar place to begin.

Despite it being the eve of Independence Day, the skies over Washington DC were abuzz with numerous military flyovers. Former President Trump had been set on making celebrations larger-than-life, incorporating frequent military displays into the festivities.

Unimpressed by the spectacle, Garcia-Navarro expressed her frustration online: “Why are we having so many jets scorching over DC? Nerve-wracking. I get 250 celebrations but it feels like the apocalypse,” she tweeted.

Her tweet appeared at 10:44 a.m., coinciding with the start of a series of flyovers that persisted for about three hours that day.

On July 4th itself, the flyovers lasted more than twice as long, featuring B-2 bombers, NASA F-5s, Thunderbirds, Ospreys, Golden Knights and even Air Force One.

Garcia-Navarro’s complaint struck a nerve with many observers, and her replies were flooded with criticism.

‘Have you considered crying about it even harder?’ wrote Sean Davis, CEO and co-founder of the conservative online magazine, The Federalist.

‘Sorry for triggering you,’ Garcia-Navarro replied with a sad face emoticon.

‘We can hope it’s the apocalypse for the America-hating that your publication foments and spews,’ said Mollie Hemingway, editor-in-chief of The Federalist.

‘…seriously? This is our 250th birthday! You cannot hate our media more,’ another user said.

‘Mainstream commentators have become so emotionally fragile,’ yet another chimed in.

Countless others posted humorous pictures and memes making fun of Garcia-Navarro’s tweet.

On July 4th, Washington DC set off a whopping 850,000 fireworks, breaking the previous record of 810,904.

Typically, around 7,000 fireworks are set off at the National Mall to celebrate the holiday.

Garcia-Navarro had something to say about that celebratory display too.

‘TRIGGER WARNING: Well, Happy Independence Day. I don’t like fireworks either! Why? I have PTSD from covering wars. Your body remembers the sounds of conflict even if you are past the effects,’ a second tweet by the reporter began.

‘But also, lots of people don’t like jets and fireworks! My niece who is with me has auditory processing disorder. There are lots of ways to love America and celebrate Independence Day. Enjoy yours!’ her tweet concluded.

Should celebrating America’s 250th include loud military flyovers and massive fireworks displays?

Once again, Garcia-Navarro’s replies were flooded with angry users.

‘I’m a combat veteran with PTSD. I am also a patriot. You, on the other hand, are a spoiled narcissist. #America250 isn’t about you. Glad we had this talk,’ one user wrote.

‘You sound like a miserable human being. who would listen to anything you have to say everything with liberals is doom and gloom sounds like you have no reason to continue,’ another said.

‘July 4th. How do I make this about me?’ a third chimed in.
