On the eve of his 80th birthday, Donald Trump announced that an agreement with Iran is poised to be finalized today, paving the way for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The former US President took to his Truth Social platform to proclaim that this critical maritime corridor will soon be accessible “TO ALL” following the signing of the agreement.
Trump stated, “The Deal is set to be signed tomorrow, and once it is, the Hormuz Strait will be OPEN TO ALL.”
Emphasizing the improved diplomatic ties, he added, “Our relationship with Iran is much different and better than what previous administrations experienced.”
In a pointed critique, Trump also took aim at former President Barack Obama, arguing that his approach to Iran’s enriched plutonium was a “smooth road to a Nuclear Weapon.”
But the Iranian foreign ministry poured cold water on the claims that the sealing of a ‘memorandum of understanding’ was imminent, suggesting it could take several days yet.
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman, Esmail Baghaei, said: ‘Due to the other party’s instability, we must be cautious about any statements regarding this process.’
It was previously reported that the US President wanted the deal signed today, ahead of the G7 summit in France which begins tomorrow.
Donald Trump – pictured speaking to reporters in the Oval Office of the White House said a deal with Iran will be signed today, the day of his 80th birthday
Mr Trump also slammed former US president Barack Obama’s previous deal with Iran on his Truth Social account
It is thought he would hail the agreement as yet another of his victories as ‘peacemaker’.
Mr Trump was also expected to discuss how to de-mine the Strait of Hormuz with other G7 leaders, as well as the rulers of Egypt, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
But tensions between America and Iran remained high, with the US Central Command downing a number of Iranian drones overnight yesterday.
They were apparently targeting passing commercial ships in the Strait. An ‘unknown projectile’ hit a ship off the coast of Oman around the same time.
The downing of the Iranian drones followed three nights of intense exchange of fire between the US and Iran.
The prime minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, first announced on his X account the likelihood of the agreement being signed ‘electronically’ today by both sides.
The agreement would lead to 60 days of truce and pave the way for talks to end and dismantle Iran’s nuclear programme.
‘Technical talks’ would begin on how to either destroy or remove the country’s stockpile of enriched uranium, believed to be buried under at least three nuclear sites the US bombed last year.
But his statement was contradicted by Mr Baghaei shortly afterwards.
Mr Trump remained silent on the deal initially, but eventually re-posted Mr Sharif’s statement on his Truth Social account.
This was followed by his own announcement, which began with him castigating Mr Obama for his ‘bad’ nuclear deal with Iran, called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), that was signed in 2016.
If the new agreement goes ahead, then in addition to the Strait’s reopening, the US is likely to lift its blockade of Iranian ports.
Mr Trump may also agree to the unfreezing of billions of pounds of Iranian assets that have been held as a result of American and Western sanctions.
Iranian media outlets reported that the US would contribute £224billion towards the reconstruction of Iran, after sporadically bombing the country since February.
But Mr Trump said on social media that such terms had ‘nothing to do with the terms that we agreed.’
Lebanon has remained a sticking point in the agreement, as Iran says it wants a ceasefire in the country as a condition of any deal with America.
But the Israeli government has refused to halt its air strikes, adding that its forces will not leave from southern Lebanon in the near future.
Tomorrow Mr Trump will hold meetings on de-mining the Strait of Hormuz – a global chokepoint through which up to 25 per cent of the world’s oil and gas is shipped through.
Since the beginning of the war, Iran has not only closed the waterway but also laid mines there.
They first shut down the Strait in February, after the US and Israel launched a surprise attack on the Tehran regime, which led to the killing of then-leader Ali Khamenei and most of his family.
For avid football enthusiasts, the FIFA World Cup transcends beyond just being a sporting event. It emerges as a global celebration, uniting fans from all corners of the world through a shared love for the beautiful game, bridging the gaps of language, culture, and geography.
For the host nations, the World Cup offers more than just the thrill of competition; it acts as a potent tool of soft power. With billions of viewers tuning in worldwide, it becomes a golden opportunity for countries to present their unique cultures, traditions, and values to a global audience.
This phenomenon is often described as sport diplomacy, or more specifically in this context, “football diplomacy.” Beyond the pursuit of trophies, countries leverage this event to achieve victories off the field, seeking to enhance international relations, attract investment, and gain prestige on the world stage.
Amidst this backdrop, the United States is poised to benefit from such an event, especially after enduring 18 months under the divisive leadership of Donald Trump. A World Cup could serve as a much-needed catalyst to boost the country’s image and foster a sense of unity and positive engagement on the global front.
There’s no question the United States could use a boost like this at the moment after 18 months of Donald Trump’s polarising leadership.

But, there’s a crucial difference between soft power and spectacle. Early signs suggest the 2026 World Cup will offer more of the latter for Trump’s America — an event that highlights power (not the soft kind), tribute, exclusion and vested interests.
The soft power of sport
The term “soft power” was coined in the 1990s by Harvard political scientist Joseph Nye Jr. It means a country’s power isn’t just derived from military force or economic weight (otherwise known as “hard power”), but also in its ability to influence through attraction.
Think South Korea’s K-pop phenomenon, the United Kingdom’s prestigious universities and the Nordic countries’ embrace of sustainability, good governance and progressive values.
In essence, this is the intangible power nations have to get others to sit at your table and consider, perhaps even support, your view of the world.
The concept has since evolved significantly since Nye developed it, and received heavy criticism. Critics are quick to point to its subversive potential, particularly when deployed by authoritarian states with less benign motives.
Political scientists Christopher Walker and Jessica Ludwig have introduced another term, “sharp power”, to describe how states, like Russia and China use their influence not to attract others, but to manipulate them.
Revisiting the topic more recently, Nye himself acknowledged that soft power has become more complicated. He recognises it can be gamed, misread or turned inward in ways that undermine the very openness it depends on.
The distinction is an important one today, reflecting a broader shift in how nations now use culture and spectacle as instruments of self-interest and dominance over others in a zero-sum world.
Trump, Infantino and the 2026 World Cup
Enter Trump and the 2026 World Cup.
With an expanded format of 48 teams playing a record 104 matches in 16 cities across three countries, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has labelled this year’s tournament as the “greatest event that mankind has ever seen”.
Yet, as the tournament begins, it’s already been an opportunity lost from a sports diplomacy and soft power perspective.
For starters, the event should be a celebration of North American partnership among the three hosts, the US, Mexico and Canada. But tensions have been high since the Trump administration imposed 25 per cent tariffs on goods from both Canada and Mexico.
Rather than seek to deescalate in the spirit of unity, Trump instead needled his counterparts in Mexico and Canada, saying the tariffs would make the World Cup “more exciting”, claiming “tension’s a good thing”.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s statement on the opening of the World Cup makes only perfunctory reference to the United States.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, meanwhile, did not attend the opening match in Mexico City in solidarity with regular Mexicans who cannot afford the exorbitant ticket prices (set by FIFA).
The vision of football uniting the world — FIFA’s own stated mantra — has given way to a tournament defined by who gets to participate and who doesn’t.
Professor Jules Boykoff, the author of Red Card: The 2026 World Cup, Sportswashing and the FIFA Greed Machine, describes it as a “massive paradox”:
On one hand, it has more teams than ever participating. On the other hand, because of the policies of the Trump administration, it looks more like a World Cup of exclusion than inclusion.
This goes beyond the soaring ticket prices. Many supporters of nations that qualified from Africa and the Middle East had their visas rejected with no explanation. Visas were rejected for some of the Iranian team’s support staff, too.
And Somali referee Omar Artan was refused entry in Miami, dashing his dreams of being the first Somali official at a World Cup.
To make matters worse, the concerns over the exclusive nature of the tournament so far have been met with shrugs by Infantino, head of FIFA.
When asked about Artan’s situation, Infantino said it was “unfortunate” he was denied entry, but added, “sometimes it’s good to just to chill, relax”.
Infantino also had little to say about US treatment of the Iranian team, which was abruptly moved from its training base in the US across the border to Mexico and saw the tickets for its fans revoked by FIFA at the last minute.
Infantino’s response? He said he would drive the team on a bus himself from Iran to ensure they could play. Just not the team’s fans, apparently.
A stage for self-glorification
Soft power, at its best, works through genuine openness, two-way dialogue and collaboration — building understanding, trust and respect along the way.
During Australia’s hosting of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, for example, Foreign Minister Penny Wong was able to bring global leaders together to take a stand on gender equality and draw attention to the plight of women living under the oppressive Taliban regime in Afghanistan.
But the 2026 Men’s World Cup appears to be offering something else. The stage is set for self-glorification, managed by a political leader who frames division and tension as a basis for entertainment and a governing body too invested in commercial gain to be concerned about the social divisions it is creating.
This is not soft power. But there’s bound to be plenty of spectacle.

In a coordinated effort, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents successfully intercepted a group of migrants from the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Uzbekistan. Their 30-foot vessel was targeted near Desecheo Island, Puerto Rico.
The operation kicked off in the early hours of June 6, at around 12:30 a.m. local time, when the Caribbean Air and Marine Operations Center identified a suspicious vessel west of the island.
CBP officials promptly passed this intelligence to a National Air Security Operations Center DHC-8 aircrew, which then located the 25- to 30-foot vessel carrying 40 migrants.

Staying strong and agile after 50 involves focusing on exercises that not only build strength but also enhance everyday functionality. Think about your fitness routine supporting daily activities—like climbing stairs, standing up from a chair, or carrying groceries. Your exercise regimen should empower your legs to step and move efficiently, your upper body to push and pull effectively, and your core to stabilize your body during various movements.
To achieve this comprehensive fitness, concentrate on five fundamental movements: lunge, push, hinge, pull, and brace. These exercises collectively target major muscle groups, including the legs, glutes, back, chest, shoulders, arms, hips, and core. By focusing on these core movements, you can streamline your workouts without overwhelming yourself with an extensive list of exercises.
From my experience as a coach, significant progress often comes when people prioritize mastering these basic movements rather than constantly seeking new exercises for variety’s sake. For instance, improving your reverse lunge indicates that your legs and hips are functioning well together. Similarly, perfecting your push-up demonstrates enhanced upper-body strength and control. A solid hinge suggests you’re effectively engaging your hips instead of straining your back during lifts. Rows help develop much-needed posture and pulling strength, while planks train your core to maintain stability as the rest of your body moves.
The simplest way to build that kind of fitness is to train the major patterns: lunge, push, hinge, pull, and brace. Those five movements cover a huge amount of ground without turning your workout into a long checklist. They train your legs, glutes, back, chest, shoulders, arms, hips, and core in ways that carry over to daily movement.
After years of coaching, I’ve found that people usually make the best progress when they stop chasing variety for its own sake and start getting better at the basics. A stronger reverse lunge tells me your legs and hips are working together. A better push-up shows upper-body strength and control. A solid hinge means you can use your hips instead of dumping every lift into your back. Rows build the posture and pulling strength most people need more of, and planks teach your core to hold position while the rest of your body works.
Use these five exercises as your total-body baseline. You can perform them as straight sets, add them to your current workouts, or run them as a circuit for a faster pace and greater aerobic challenge. Keep the reps clean, choose variations that match your current strength, and build from there.
Reverse Lunge
Reverse lunges target your glutes, quads, hamstrings, hips, and core, with each leg working independently. The reverse step usually feels more controlled than a forward lunge, and it gives your hips and legs a strong way to practice stepping, lowering, and standing tall. Men and women over 50 need this kind of lower-body control for stairs, curbs, walking, hiking, and getting out of low seats. Use support if helpful and keep the range smooth.
Form Tip: Keep your front foot planted and drive through your whole foot as you stand.
Push-Ups
Push-ups train your chest, shoulders, triceps, and core while teaching your body to stay strong from head to heels. They build the pressing strength you use when getting up from the floor, pushing a door open, bracing with your hands, or handling upper-body work in the gym. Push-ups also scale easily, which makes them one of the best total-body fitness exercises after 50. A wall, counter, bench, or floor can all work depending on your current level.
Muscles Trained: Chest, shoulders, triceps, core.
How to Do It:
Place your hands on the floor, a wall, a bench, or a sturdy, elevated surface.
Step your feet back until your body forms a straight line.
Brace your core and squeeze your glutes.
Lower your chest toward your hands with control.
Press through your hands to return to the starting position.
Repeat while keeping your body aligned.
Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 6 to 12 reps. Rest for 45 to 60 seconds between each set.
Best Variations: Wall push-ups, incline push-ups, knee push-ups, full push-ups.
Form Tip: Keep your elbows angled slightly back and press through your whole hand.
Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift (RDL)
Dumbbell Romanian deadlifts train your glutes, hamstrings, lower back, grip, and core while building the hinge pattern. The hinge is one of the most important movement skills after 50 because it helps you bend, lift, carry, and pick things up from the floor with better control. RDLs strengthen the backside of your body while teaching your hips to move well. Start light, keep the dumbbells close, and let your hamstrings guide the range.
Stand with your feet hip-width apart and hold dumbbells in front of your thighs.
Brace your core and soften your knees.
Push your hips back as the dumbbells move down your legs.
Lower until you feel a stretch through your hamstrings.
Drive your hips forward to return to standing.
Finish tall without leaning back.
Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps. Rest for 60 seconds between each set.
Best Variations: Kettlebell RDLs, staggered-stance RDLs, single-leg RDLs, bodyweight good mornings.
Form Tip: Keep the weights close to your legs and make your hips lead the movement.
Standing Band Row
Standing band rows train your upper back, lats, rear shoulders, biceps, and core. Pulling strength helps balance out pressing, supports posture, and keeps your shoulders feeling strong through daily movement. A band makes rows simple to do at home, and the standing position asks your core to help maintain posture while your back does the pulling. Focus on smooth reps and a strong squeeze between your shoulder blades.
Stand tall and hold one end of the band in each hand.
Step back until the band has light tension.
Brace your core and keep your chest lifted.
Pull your elbows back toward your ribs.
Return your hands forward with control.
Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 10 to 15 reps. Rest for 45 seconds between each set.
Best Variations: Single-arm band rows, paused band rows, seated band rows, dumbbell rows.
Form Tip: Pull through your elbows and keep your shoulders relaxed.
Forearm Plank
Forearm planks train your abs, obliques, deep core, shoulders, and glutes. Bracing strength ties your total-body fitness together because your core supports your spine, hips, and shoulders during nearly every movement. A strong plank carries over to lunges, push-ups, RDLs, rows, walking, lifting, and carrying. Keep the hold crisp and controlled rather than chasing the longest possible time.
Muscles Trained: Abs, obliques, deep core, shoulders, glutes.
How to Do It:
Place your forearms on the floor with your elbows under your shoulders.
Step your feet back into a plank position.
Brace your core and squeeze your glutes.
Keep your body in a straight line from head to heels.
Breathe steadily while holding tension.
Lower your knees when the hold is complete.
Recommended Sets and Reps: Perform 3 sets of 20 to 45 seconds. Rest for 30 to 45 seconds between each set.
Form Tip: Keep your ribs down and your hips level.
How to Use These Exercises for Total-Body Fitness

These five exercises cover the main patterns your body needs after 50: lunge, push, hinge, pull, and brace. You can train them as a traditional strength workout with full rest between sets, or you can turn them into a circuit for a stronger conditioning effect. The circuit option adds an aerobic fitness element because your heart rate stays elevated while your muscles keep working.
Use them as a circuit: Perform one set of each exercise back-to-back, then rest for 60 to 90 seconds. Repeat for 2 to 4 total rounds.
Keep the pace steady: Move from one exercise to the next with purpose while maintaining clean form. A smooth circuit can improve strength and aerobic fitness at the same time.
Scale each movement as needed: Use incline push-ups, assisted lunges, lighter RDLs, easier band rows, or knee planks. The right variation helps you train consistently.
Progress one piece at a time: Add reps, increase resistance, extend plank holds, use heavier dumbbells, or shorten rest as your fitness improves.
Repeat the basics often: Two to four sessions per week can build a strong foundation without overcomplicating your plan.
Total-body fitness after 50 comes from owning the basics. Lunge, push, hinge, pull, and brace with steady effort, and you’ll build strength that carries into workouts, daily movement, and everything you want your body to keep doing well.

Donald Trump’s highly anticipated UFC fight night, scheduled to take place at the White House, is facing an unexpected adversary: an overwhelming number of insects.
Specialists are cautioning that Sunday’s much-publicized UFC Freedom 250 could fall victim to an intense bug onslaught. The combination of rising temperatures, humidity, and looming thunderstorms provides perfect conditions for mosquitoes, gnats, and other pests to swarm the South Lawn.
This alert comes as crews finalize the setup of an expansive outdoor arena, marking a historic moment as one of the most unique sporting events unfolds at the presidential residence.
Weather forecasts indicate that Washington, DC, will experience temperatures soaring to around 91°F on Sunday, with a possibility of thunderstorms later in the day.
While inclement weather could potentially interrupt the event, insect specialists suggest that the capital’s infamous summer insect population might prove to be an equally challenging obstacle.
AccuWeather has issued an ‘extreme’ bug warning for the day of the event, citing weather conditions that encourage heightened insect activity and larger numbers of mosquitoes, stink bugs, roaches and termites.
The prospect of thousands of insects being drawn toward the powerful floodlights surrounding the Octagon is likely to concern UFC president Dana White, who has repeatedly expressed his dislike of outdoor fight cards because of the elements that organizers cannot control.
White recently recalled being stunned by the volume of insects he encountered while attending an event at the White House earlier this year.

‘He invited me to dinner there,’ White said of Trump during an interview with Boardroom Talks. ‘The amount of gnats that are flying around, I’m like, ‘Holy s***!”
The UFC boss nevertheless agreed to move forward with the event, a reflection of his long-standing friendship with Trump.
Organizers have prepared a series of backup plans to deal with weather-related disruptions, including measures aimed at limiting the impact of heat, rain, wind and insects.
Industrial fans, protective coverings and other production adjustments are among the tools available should conditions deteriorate.
The festivities surrounding the event have already transformed several iconic Washington landmarks into staging grounds for what may become one of the most unusual combinations of politics and professional sports ever seen in the nation’s capital.
Activities began Friday with a UFC press conference at the Lincoln Memorial, the historic site where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech in 1963.
Saturday’s ceremonial weigh-ins are scheduled for the Ellipse, the park adjacent to the White House that became internationally known after Trump’s January 6, 2021 ‘Stop the Steal’ rally.
The main attraction arrives Sunday night, when fighters including Ilia Topuria, Justin Gaethje, Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane are expected to compete inside an Octagon erected beneath a towering steel lighting structure known in production circles as ‘The Claw.’

Fighters scheduled to take part in the weekend’s events include Ilia Topuria, Justin Gaethje, Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane
Trump, who turns 80 this weekend, is expected to attend as thousands gather on the South Lawn for the event.
The president also announced Friday that the Department of War plans to unveil a new recruitment advertisement during the broadcast.
‘This Sunday Night, during the historic Freedom 250 UFC Fight at the White House, The Department of War will debut their first TV Ad, entitled ‘Peace Through Strength’,’ Trump wrote on Truth Social.
‘The Warrior Ethos is BACK at the War Department, and we call on our greatest young Americans to join our Great Fighting (when necessary!)’
The event has generated controversy beyond concerns about insects and weather.
A lawsuit filed by two Washington-area residents alongside watchdog organization Public Integrity Project sought to stop the fights from taking place on federal property. The plaintiffs argued that government facilities were being used to benefit private commercial interests connected to both Trump and White.
Court documents described the event as an ‘orgy of corruption.’
A judge ultimately declined to halt the proceedings, ruling Friday that the plaintiffs had failed to demonstrate sufficient harm to justify blocking the event.
The Daily Mail has reached out to the White House and UFC for comment.

Open Heaven 14 June 2026 TOPIC – Prosperity ≠ Godliness
MEMORISE: Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; – 1 Timothy 6:17 (KJV)
READ: Luke 12:16-21 (KJV)
16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 50-55
Open Heaven 14 June 2026 MESSAGE
Many years ago, a fellow believer said he wanted to change to another religion because he had observed that many of those who practise this other religion are very rich. I quickly made him realise that being wealthy is not a function of religion, nor is it an indication of godliness. Genesis 4:16-17 tells us that Cain built a city after he departed from the presence of the Lord. Building a city is a mighty feat; however, Cain was no longer dwelling in God’s presence when he built that city. Don’t be deceived into thinking that every green and flourishing branch is connected to the root, as some branches will remain green and seemingly healthy for a while even after they have been cut from the tree. Eventually, however, they will turn yellow and wither away.
It is true that God blesses His children with the power to make wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18); however, wealth in itself should never be used as a measure of godliness. God measures our godliness by our fruit (Matthew 7:16). When His children bear the right fruit, He blesses them, and one of the signs of His blessing is wealth, as seen in the life of Abraham, who was rich in cattle, silver, and gold (Genesis 13:2). Isaac was also a godly and prosperous person. The Bible says in Genesis 26:12-14 that he waxed richer and richer until he became exceedingly great and prosperous.
God wants you to be wealthy because He loves blessing His children with good gifts (Matthew 7:11). However, He doesn’t want you to measure your life by the abundance or scarcity of your material possessions (Luke 12:15). Money is a tool, and when God entrusts you with it, He wants you to be faithful with it. He wants you to be rich towards Him and use the treasures He has given you to bring glory to Him. In today’s Bible reading, the rich fool didn’t understand that he was meant to be a good steward of his wealth. His life was cut short because he was not rich towards God and didn’t acknowledge Him as his source; rather, he decided to lay up treasures for himself.
Beloved, God places more value on your fellowship with Him and the state of your heart (1 Peter 3:4) than your material possessions or the amount of money in your bank account. Let your focus be on cultivating true prosperity, which is the prosperity of your soul (3 John 2), and not material things.
Open Heaven 14 June 2026 KEY POINT
Material wealth is not a measure of godliness.
Open Heaven 14 June 2026 HYMN 21 – My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less
1 My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
Chorus: On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand.
2 When darkness seems to veils His face, I rest on His unchanging grace; In every high and stormy gale, My anchor holds within the veil.
3 His oath, His covenant, and blood, Support me in the whelming flood; When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my hope and stay.
4 When He shall come with trumpet sound, Oh, may I then in Him be found; Dressed in His righteousness alone, Faultless to stand before the throne.

On Long Island, a devoted New York Knicks fan is marking the team’s remarkable journey to the NBA Finals with a spectacular light show featuring 10,000 LED lights. This dazzling display, which cost $5,000 and required 40 hours of installation time, is a testament to his loyalty and enthusiasm.
James Hentschel, renowned for his extravagant light displays at his Deer Park residence, has been illuminating his home in the Knicks’ signature blue and orange hues since the first game of the series.
“If they win tonight, the lights will stay up for at least a week or two. If they lose, they’ll stay on until they clinch a victory,” the 48-year-old contractor shared with The Post on Saturday.

Hentschel bought the Govee curtain lights last year and meticulously set them up around both the front and back of his house to create this vibrant tribute.
The lights are connected to an app, which enables him to change the scenes year-round for every celebration from Halloween and Christmas to the Fourth of July and his children’s birthday.
On Sunday, he will also be adding a light display for the UFC Freedom 250, which is being held on the South Lawn of the White House.

Hentschel, who also commemorated the Knicks’ playoff run last year outside his house, said neighbors near and far drive by to marvel at the decorations.
“Cars just stop, take pictures, stop, take pictures … and videos,” he said.
His wife isn’t as excited about being in the limelight.
“She tolerates it, I would say. It’s not her favorite thing. But it occupies me and keeps me happy.”
DCLM Daily Manna 14 June 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Praise after Perils
TOPIC: Praise after Perils (DCLM Daily Manna 14 June 2026)
KEY VERSE: The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation – 2 Samuel 22:47
TEXT: 2 Samuel 22:45-51 (KJV)
45 Strangers shall submit themselves unto me: as soon as they hear, they shall be obedient unto me.
46 Strangers shall fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their close places.
47 The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.
48 It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me.
49 And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.
50 Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.
51 He is the tower of salvation for his king: and sheweth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore.
DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:
Not many people sufficiently know how to praise God for who He is nor do many offer thanksgiving to Him for all He does. Unknown to them, worship and thanksgiving attract further multi-dimensional blessings from God’s exalted throne of grace and mercy.
Our text today consists of the closing lines of the song of praise that David offered at the end of his life. Running through the song is the unmistakable strong undercurrent of appreciation from the lips of this fallen yet faithful king to the everfaithful God. In putting the song together, David paraded the exploits, conquests, and victories garnered through God’s providence. Observers might see David more visibly in the larger picture but not the psalmist of Israel. He knew that it was the Lord who made him strong.
He chronicles God’s inexhaustible mercies that subdued his enemies under his footstool, kept his own people well under his leadership, gave him an upper hand over his adversaries, and delivered him from bloodthirsty Saul, mischievous Doeg, ambitious Absalom, malicious Ahitophel, insubordinate Joab and rebellious Shimei. In return for his divine deliverance, David exultantly declares, ”Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name”. David’s heart had an outburst of praise and thanksgiving for the Lord, who had become his rock, fortress, deliverer, stronghold, refuge, and Saviour. Notably, David’s life, marked by numerous testimonies, was characterised by his unwavering trust in God and absolute submission to His will. As his life tailed to an end, he stood tall, looked back and chronicled God’s faithfulness.
Today’s saints are not in any way different from David. Can you also allow the Lord to sit on the throne of your heart as you completely submit to Him in adversity or prosperity, in commendation or condemnation, in peace or war? Can you look back and see how the Lord has been your Saviour and deliverer from the fiendish clutches of sin, your Sanctifier who sets free from the propensity to sin, your peace and Comforter in chaotic times and amid crisis? We must, like David, let go in joyful, exuberant praise and acknowledge His faithfulness despite our human inadequacies.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Praise to God gets to Him as a precious sweet-smelling offering.
