Shocking Twist: Son Allegedly Confesses to 911 After Stabbing James Handy – Full Story Inside

James Handy, renowned for his role in Top Gun Maverick, has tragically died after allegedly being stabbed outside his Los Angeles residence. The suspect is reportedly his girlfriend’s son.

Michael Gledhill, aged 44, now faces a murder charge in connection with the death of the esteemed 81-year-old actor, which occurred on June 3. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the development in a recent statement.

James Handy Was Found Unconscious in Front of His Home After 911 Call

The police were alerted to the incident following a 911 call reporting “unknown trouble” at a Tarzana residence located on the 19200 block of Erwin Street.

The caller, who is alleged to have been Gledhill, reportedly told authorities, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin,” according to police statements.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered Handy—celebrated for his roles in films like Arachnophobia and Jumanji—lying in the front yard. He was found unconscious with a stab wound to the chest, as reported by the police.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Gledhill—identified by police as the son of Handy’s girlfriend—allegedly flagged down officers to tell them that, according to the statement, “he was the one they were looking for.”

Gledhill was arrested and taken to the Van Nuys Jail, where he is being held on a $2 million bond, police said. It’s unclear whether he has retained an attorney.

Police did not provide a motive for the stabbing, but described it as an “isolated incident,” adding that there was no ongoing danger to the public.

James Handy’s Talent Agent Confirms Death

Handy’s talent agent Pam Ellis-Evenas shared news of the actor’s death, telling NBC News in a statement, “With great sadness I can confirm that the gentleman who was attacked and killed on Wednesday in Tarzana was the actor James Handy.”

The veteran actor was born in New York City and began performing in the late 1970s, appearing in numerous television and film roles over the years. His last role was as the bartender Jimmy in 2022’s Top Gun Maverick.

Security Breach at Bush Airport: Man Gains Unauthorized Access to United Flight, Highlighting Major Vulnerabilities

0

HOUSTON — Questions remain unanswered as the TSA and United Airlines stay silent about a recent security breach at Bush Intercontinental Airport, where a man managed to board a plane without proper authorization.

The criminal complaint reveals that Abdulrahman Oriyomi’s reservation had been canceled, and the boarding pass he presented was reportedly fake.

Surveillance footage captured Oriyomi interacting with a TSA officer on the morning of May 18. He was then guided to another TSA checkpoint where his photo was taken, allowing him to pass through security.

Michael Matranga, a former Secret Service agent now leading M6 Global Defense, criticized the TSA agents for letting Oriyomi clear security without a legitimate boarding pass.

“This incident represents a significant security lapse, not merely because he boarded the plane, but due to the multiple failures at various security checkpoints,” Matranga commented.

Police say Oriyomi then approached a gate and tried twice to scan the fake boarding pass, but to no avail.

More than an hour later, they say he showed up at another gate where United gate agents were scanning boarding passes.

Police say Oriyomi walked right past the agents while they were busy with other passengers.

“They’re not paying attention to his diversionary tactics. They’re distracted, they’re not situationally aware,” said Matranga.

Police say Oriyomi hid in the plane’s restroom as it taxied to the runway, and that a passenger alerted flight attendants to his presence.

Once the flight crew realized he wasn’t supposed to be on the plane, it returned to the gate where it was met by police, an explosive device unit and the FBI.

Matranga said all of that could have been avoided had Oriyomi been stopped from the beginning at the TSA screening checkpoint.

“At a very minimum, those agents that were directly involved and probably that whole cadre of agents at the airport need to be retrained on policy and consistency in policy,” he said.

Oriyomi was questioned the same day and given a trespass warning, but charges were not filed until June 1, and he wasn’t arrested until Friday morning.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office said HPD didn’t approach it about filing charges until June.

HPD told ABC affiliate KTRK that officers didn’t have enough to charge Oriyomi initially. However, after an investigation, he was charged with impairing or interrupting the operation of a critical infrastructure facility.

Low-Budget Thriller ‘Backrooms’ Surges to Box Office Success

0

As many teenagers focused on passing their driving tests, Kane Parsons spent his 16th year captivated by a different challenge. Retreating to his bedroom, he crafted a spine-chilling nine-minute film depicting a man’s harrowing journey through an endless maze of deserted rooms.

Parsons, who describes himself as a bit of a loner, turned to creating YouTube content at 13, after being diagnosed with severe childhood arthritis. His haunting short film struck a chord, quickly going viral and amassing 10 million views within just a fortnight of its release.

Remarkably, just as he celebrated his 17th birthday, Parsons secured representation with a Hollywood agent, marking the beginning of his journey into the film industry.

Not long after, he inked a deal with the esteemed studio A24. Known for producing Oscar-winning films such as “Moonlight” and “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” A24 entrusted Parsons with an $8 million budget to bring his “bedroom movie” to the big screen.

Now 20, Parsons has become a sensation in Hollywood. Despite still being too young to legally enjoy a drink in his home state of California, his film “Backrooms” has soared to the top of the US box office, solidifying his status as a rising star.

Recreating the original YouTube movie’s garish mustard-yellow rooms bathed in buzzing fluorescent lights, the film has brought in a staggering $130 million globally since opening last weekend, and has topped British charts, too.

Backrooms even managed to attract British Oscar-winner Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave) for a fraction of his normal salary because he was so keen to work with the teenage YouTube sensation.

Parsons’s creation is crushing traditional studio releases like the latest Star Wars offering, The Mandalorian And Grogu – and let’s see how it fares against He-Man, the $200 million superhero blockbuster starring Nicholas Galitzine, which opens this weekend.

But Parsons is not the only fresh-faced YouTuber to storm the gates of Hollywood.

One Tinsel Town executive with a major studio told The Mail on Sunday: ‘There hasn’t been a revolution like this in Hollywood since talkies replaced silent movies. You used to have to go through the system and work your way up before any studio would trust you to make a film.

‘These kids are coming out of their bedrooms and making movies, which are getting young audiences, particularly young men, back into movie theatres in numbers we’ve not seen in decades.’

Indeed, the number two film at the global box office is Obsession, a horror film made for $750,000 by 26-year-old YouTuber Curry Barker.

Released on May 15 it has grossed $155 million worldwide.

Earlier this year Mark Fischback, who goes by the YouTube handle ‘Markiplier’, self-financed the sci-fi horror Iron Lung, which has just crossed the $50 million mark.

This bright new order even has a name: Creator-driven cinema.

The executive says: ‘People in the music business have launched careers off YouTube. Justin Bieber started off posting music videos online but it’s taken the movie business a while to catch up, mostly because it was hard to make good movies on a tiny budget in your bedroom.

‘But technology has become so sophisticated and AI tools so good that now any talented kid with a good idea can hit the jackpot.’

The source adds: ‘The thing about YouTubers is they are tapping into the insecurities of the post #MeToo generation because they grew up during Covid, suffered through isolation and have the same insecurities and hang-ups as the kids who are going to watch their films.’

Critics have raved about Backrooms, in which Ejiofor plays as a man who discovers a portal in his furniture store into a sinister alternate realm. He then wanders with increasing anxiety and horror through a maze of backrooms that never ends.

One critic said: ‘The film taps directly into the helplessness and loss of control people felt during Covid. Parsons has captured the psychological unease of an entire generation.’

Last weekend, Parsons became the youngest director in history to top the box office in the US and UK.

His own backstory is as remarkable as his newfound success.

Born in Petaluma, California, his childhood was cut short at 13 when he was diagnosed with arthritis so severe he was left bedridden.

He told the New York Times: ‘Arthritis for a 13-year-old didn’t make sense.’

His father, a video game developer, encouraged his son to immerse himself in creating escapist worlds on his computer using free software like Blender.

Parsons now has weekly autoimmune injections, which allow him to lead a fairly ‘normal’ life.

But the stress of making Backrooms into a movie forced him to take two weeks of bedrest during post-production: ‘I ended up getting a little bit too much on my plate. I definitely abused my nervous system to the fullest degree I possibly could.’

Obsession’s Curry Barker started off making comedy skits on YouTube, which were watched by a handful of his friends before progressing to horror films ‘just for fun’.

He said: ‘No-one was making the films me and my friends wanted to watch so I decided to do it myself.’

The 26-year-old self-described ‘straight C and D grade student’ from the backwoods of Mobile, Alabama struck gold two years ago when a film he made for $800 in his bedroom called Milk & Serial racked up 2.4 million views on YouTube.

‘That made me think bigger,’ he said.

Now Barker is being credited with helping revive a struggling cinema industry devastated by the pandemic when audiences abandoned theatres in favour of streaming services such as Netflix.

Obsession, made for just $750,000 is about Bear, a shy music store employee who buys a lucky talisman, a wooden stick that grants one wish when snapped.

Bear wishes that his best friend Nikki would ‘love me more than anything else in the world’.

The wish backfires when Nikki develops a deadly obsession with him.

The studio executive says: ‘Curry has millions of followers on YouTube and those kids all went to the cinema to see Obsession. Some of them probably went to the movie theatre for the first time.

‘These are kids that grew up during the pandemic, who never got to do the traditional Friday nights at the movies with a girlfriend that previous generations did. Many of them are experiencing the fun of watching a movie with an audience for the first time.’

Curry has been offered $10 million for his next film, another horror movie he has not even written yet.

He landed an agent at powerhouse United Talent Agency and has been signed up to direct a remake of the blood-soaked 1974 classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

Social media has democratised the movie landscape to the point that studios will take a punt on filmmakers who have never set foot on a professional set or sat through a single film studies lecture.

‘Traditionally if you wanted to make movies you went to film school and then joined a production company in a lowly position as a runner or grip,’ the executive said. ‘That’s history.’

But dyed-in-the-wool cinephiles are not convinced that YouTubers will save Hollywood.

One leading figure in the industry with an Oscar to her name told the MoS: ‘I think you will see creator-driven cinema in genres like comedy and horror. But can these kids make a masterpiece like Lawrence Of Arabia? I don’t think so.

‘What they can do is work efficiently with time and money because they’ve grown up creating content in their bedrooms. But are they artists? For every film that makes it there are hundreds that don’t.’

Time will tell if any of the YouTubers eventually end up standing on stage with a golden statuette in hand. But don’t rule it out.

The Oscars ceremony itself is embracing new media: from 2029 Hollywood’s marquee event will move from traditional TV to be streamed worldwide on, where else, YouTube.

Must-Watch Classic: A Film Buff’s Essential on Netflix

Among the vast selection of Netflix’s original productions, the streaming giant also offers a collection of cinematic treasures that are undeniably worth watching. Standing out prominently is a timeless classic that every aspiring film enthusiast should experience: the epic masterpiece “Lawrence of Arabia.” Released in 1962, this iconic film consistently ranks among the greatest movies ever made, and for a multitude of compelling reasons.

Renowned for its grandiose storytelling and breathtaking scale, “Lawrence of Arabia” captivates both critics and audiences alike. Esteemed director Steven Spielberg has lauded the film as a “major miracle,” emphasizing the profound impact it had on him during his youth. Such high praise from a legendary filmmaker is reason enough to add this cinematic gem to your Netflix queue. The film unquestionably upholds its esteemed reputation as one of the most significant works in film history.

Directed by the visionary David Lean, produced by Sam Spiegel, and penned by Robert Bolt and Michael Wilson, “Lawrence of Arabia” brings to life the remarkable true story of T. E. Lawrence, set against the backdrop of World War I. The narrative follows Lieutenant Lawrence, portrayed by Peter O’Toole, who becomes the British liaison to Prince Faisal, played by Alec Guinness. Known in the film as “Feisal,” Faisal is destined to become the future King of Iraq and a pivotal leader in the Arab revolt against the Ottoman Empire. Despite his unconventional demeanor, Lawrence’s cultural sensitivity and open-mindedness earn him Faisal’s trust, making him an indispensable figure in the rebellion.

The film’s grandeur mirrors the enormity of its story, earning “Lawrence of Arabia” immediate acclaim and seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. The performances by Peter O’Toole and Omar Sharif, who portrays Sherif Ali ibn el Kharish, also garnered Oscar nominations. Its enduring legacy is evidenced by references in contemporary culture, such as the hit series “Better Call Saul.” If you’ve yet to witness this cinematic marvel, now is the perfect opportunity to experience “Lawrence of Arabia” on Netflix and discover the brilliance that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.

Lawrence of Arabia is a gem of filmmaking

Directed by David Lean, produced by Sam Spiegel, and written by Robert Bold and Michael Wilson, “Lawrence of Arabia” is based on the true story of the World War I-era activities of British multi-hyphenate T. E. Lawrence. As the movie depicts, Lieutenant Lawrence (Peter O’Toole) serves as the British liaison to Prince Faisal (Alec Guinness) — spelled “Feisal” in the movie — the future King of Iraq and an influential figure in that period’s Arab rebellion against the Turks. Though disliked by the British due to his unruly nature, Lawrence’s openness and cultural awareness win Faisal over, and the lieutenant becomes a respected key figure in the prince’s operations.

It’s a big story, and the movie matches its scale. “Lawrence of Arabia” was immediately recognized as an exceptional work: It won seven Academy Awards, including best picture and best director. Peter O’Toole and Omar Sharif (who plays Sherif Ali ibn el Kharish) also received Oscar nominations for their performances. To this day, the movie remains so revered and ubiquitous in popular culture that even “Better Call Saul” features nods at “Lawrence of Arabia.” If you’ve managed to miss the movie so far, you can now easily watch it on Netflix to see what the fuss is all about.

Para-tech Symposium Embraces the Paranormal, Concludes This Sunday

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Over the weekend, residents of the Tri-Cities found themselves delving into the mysteries of the unknown at the Para-tech Symposium, a fascinating two-day event dedicated to the paranormal.

This event, designed to be family-friendly, showcased a variety of intriguing artifacts and information covering topics like Bigfoot, cryptids, UFOs, gothic stories, and the technology used by paranormal investigators.

The symposium featured numerous speakers and groups eager to discuss phenomena from beyond our usual understanding.

“If you have questions, this is the place to explore them,” expressed John Dixon from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). “We invite you to share your stories; we are eager to hear them. We aim to comprehend the occurrences around us because every story holds truth. It’s an experience the storyteller has lived. We have no reason to doubt it, and if there’s something that warrants investigation, these are the experts who can pursue it.”

Jerry Millwood, from North Carolina Investigates, also urged attendees to come forward and share their own experiences with the paranormal.

“If you have seen something strange and unusual, you’re not, you’re not by yourself,” Millwood said. “You’re not crazy. Like John said, this is a judgment-free zone. We want people to know that they can come and speak freely about what they’ve experienced without fear of, being ostracized or made fun of or anything.”

The event continues Saturday until 6:30 and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1109 Old Gray Station Road.

Nithya Raman’s Chances Surge in LA Mayoral Race

0

In the heated race for the Los Angeles mayoral seat, candidate Spencer Pratt’s once-solid hold on second place is beginning to slip, prompting a swift reaction from bettors.

Since May 11, the former reality TV personality was seen as a strong contender, enjoying a more than 75% probability of making it through the primary stage, as per the predictions from the betting platform Kalshi. However, the landscape has shifted considerably as Election Night approached.

By Saturday, Pratt’s chances took a nosedive, with socialist city Councilmember Nithya Raman emerging as the favored candidate among bettors. According to Kalshi’s latest odds, Raman now holds a commanding 94% likelihood of advancing, while Pratt’s odds have plummeted to a mere 5% on another betting platform, Polymarket.

Meanwhile, incumbent Mayor Karen Bass has already secured enough support to guarantee her spot in the upcoming runoff, ensuring her continued presence in the mayoral race.

Incumbent Mayor Karen Bass has already secured enough votes to advance to the runoff.

Bettors on both platforms fueled a similar pattern of divergence for the two candidates, with Pratt in freefall since Wednesday.

The new odds may seem to conflict with current voting data, as Los Angeles County slowly and painstakingly continues going through thousands of uncounted ballots.

With 71% of votes counted, Pratt had 28.2% of the share as of Friday. Raman still trails in third place with 24.9%.

But Pratt’s lead’s has been steadily slipping as more mail-in ballots — which tend to favor Democrats — are still being counted. Raman scored a major boost Friday, cutting Pratt’s lead by about 13,000 votes from a day earlier.

“Barring some mathematical surprise, today’s results suggest that Nithya Raman is likely headed to the runoff,” longtime political strategist Michael Trujillo told The California Post on Friday.

“One factor to watch is the late vote. Younger voters have tended to cast their ballots later for decades, and DSA-backed candidates have been particularly effective at organizing and turning out that demographic. As additional ballots are counted, that will continue to influence the outcome,” he said.

Another new batch of vote drops is expected Saturday.

Whoever advances could significantly change the general election picture. The Bass campaign has made no secret it would rather face off against Pratt than another Democrat in Raman.

Witnesses in Karmelo Anthony Murder Trial Corroborate Austin Metcalf’s Statements Following Incident

0

Heart-wrenching new testimonies have emerged, offering a deeper understanding of the tragic final moments of Austin Metcalf, a 17-year-old Texas high school athlete, who was fatally stabbed during a packed track meet in April 2025.

On Saturday, during the widely-followed trial, an emotional scene unfolded as an 18-year-old recent graduate from Memorial High School tearfully described the pandemonium that ensued after the attack. He recounted hearing Metcalf “crying out for help” amidst the chaos.

Another witness, a 16-year-old student from Memorial High’s class of 2027, testified that shortly after the incident, Metcalf’s haunting words were, “he f—— stabbed me.”

These poignant narratives add to previous testimonies, which included another student’s account of Metcalf exclaiming, “Oh my God,” as the grim reality of his situation became apparent.

Karmelo Anthony, 19, faces a first-degree murder charge for the death of Metcalf, who was unable to be resuscitated by high school staff who attempted CPR as he lost consciousness. He later died at a local hospital.

Anthony has pleaded not guilty to the charge, with his defense team maintaining that he acted in a “split second of fear and chaos” and stabbed Metcalf in self-defense, News Media previously reported.

According to background details presented by prosecutors, the deadly encounter was sparked by a dispute over seating at the track meet.

Multiple witnesses testified that Anthony arrived uninvited and sat down inside the Memorial High School team tent. Fellow students reportedly asked Anthony to leave the tent as many as 15 times, but he allegedly refused.

As the situation escalated, witnesses testified that Anthony warned Metcalf, telling him, “Touch me and find out,” and “Touch me, see what happens.”

During the confrontation, Anthony sat with a backpack on his lap and one hand inside it, leading some students to warn Metcalf not to touch him because they suspected he was gripping a concealed weapon.

The verbal dispute turned physical when Metcalf reportedly shoved or touched Anthony, prompting Anthony to stand up and stab the high school captain with a 3.5-inch folding knife.

Witnesses on Saturday described Anthony as “the aggressor,” noting Metcalf was “unwilling to fight.”

Body-camera footage and officer testimony revealed that a cooperative Anthony made admissions to police immediately following the incident.

“I’m not alleged. I did it,” Anthony allegedly told a responding school resource officer.

He then repeatedly defended his actions to the police, saying, “He put his hands on me. I told him not to.”

Polls Show Spencer Pratt Lagging Behind in LA Mayoral Race: What’s Next?

0

The prolonged process of tallying California’s mail-in ballots has left the political futures of Republicans Spencer Pratt and Steve Hilton uncertain. According to the Associated Press, only 64% of votes in the Los Angeles mayoral race have been accounted for since the election on Tuesday. Spencer Pratt, a former reality TV personality, is attempting to challenge the current Democratic Mayor, Karen Bass, after losing his $3 million home in the Palisades fire last year. Currently, Pratt trails in second place. While Bass is set to move forward to a November runoff, the question remains whether Pratt or progressive city council member Nithya Raman will face her. Recent data from the New York Times shows Raman holding a slight advantage over Pratt, based on the 60,000 ballots processed on Wednesday and Thursday. Typically, mail-in voters in California skew Democratic, potentially affecting Pratt’s narrow 7-point lead. Despite Pratt being a registered Republican, the Los Angeles mayoral candidates are listed without party affiliations due to California’s unique jungle primary system. Over in the governor’s race, Steve Hilton is maintaining a lead, with an estimated 60% of the votes counted.

Hilton Holds Slim Lead in Tight Race

The London-born Hilton, who previously made a name for himself on Fox News, holds a slim lead over leading Democrat and former health and human services secretary Xavier Becerra. Becerra is marginally ahead of Democratic billionaire Tom Steyer by about six points. However, given California’s predominately Democratic electorate and the tendency for more liberal voters to cast mail-in ballots closer to Election Day, Hilton’s race remains highly competitive and unpredictable.

Mail-In Ballots Delay Final Results

Mail-in ballots in California are valid as long as they are submitted by 8 pm on Election Day, and historically, the state takes several days to complete the count. Former President Donald Trump, who attributed his 2020 loss to Joe Biden to the widespread use of mail-in voting during the pandemic, has consistently advocated for its elimination. Since the recent Election Day, Trump has accused Democrats of engaging in fraudulent activities as the counting continues.

Trump Slams California’s Election Process

‘Watch California, everybody!’ the President posted to Truth Social Thursday night. ‘Our Election process is as bad, or worse, than any Third World Country. The biggest difference is, they count their Votes much faster – They don’t wait seven days to tell you who won, rigging the Election during each and every one of them.’ ‘Americans are ashamed of what is happening!’ Trump added. The President used California to push Republican lawmakers to pass the Save America Act, a voting bill that would restrict the use of mail-in ballots and expand voter ID.

Senate Stalemate Fuels Voting Debate

Despite Republicans having majorities in both houses, the Save America Act is stuck in the US Senate due to widespread Democratic opposition and several moderate GOP holdouts. The press office for California's Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, who is term-limited and thus cannot run for reelection, mused on X Thursday: 'Why do Republicans hate that California counts every vote?' Hilton has grumbled at the slow pace of the count, calling the process a 'global laughing stock' by pointing out that India can tally up 600 million ballots in one day. 'We're as confident as ever that we will make the top two,' he said in an X post Thursday night. Pratt has reacted to the wait by posting 'God always wins' Thursday afternoon. His wife, reality TV star Heidi Montag, wrote, 'Never give up, never surrender!' Friday morning, though it was not entirely clear if she was referring to the LA mayoral election. , instead writing cryptic posts and advertising her new music. The day before, she had posted simply, 'Croissants are magic.'

Tragic Champaign Shooting Claims Life of 16-Year-Old: Police Launch Homicide Investigation

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — A tragic incident unfolded in Champaign overnight, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old boy from gunshot wounds. Authorities are treating the case as a homicide.

According to a statement from the Champaign Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting around 12:06 a.m. on Saturday in the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered the teenage victim suffering from critical gunshot injuries.
