Disturbing Incident on Miami Flight: Passenger Accused of In-Flight Assault and Leaves Ominous Note

0

In a disturbing incident aboard a Miami-bound flight, a French man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman while she was asleep in the first-class section. Court documents reveal that after the alleged assault, he left her a troubling note.

The accused, 48-year-old Guillaume Sebastien Roger Mattler, now faces charges of abusive sexual contact. This unsettling event reportedly took place on Swiss International Air Lines Flight LX64, as detailed in a federal criminal complaint seen by The Post.

According to the complaint, Mattler was seated next to a 29-year-old woman he did not know on the flight from Zurich to Miami. As the woman fell asleep, two other passengers witnessed his reprehensible actions.

These passengers allegedly observed Mattler touching the sleeping woman. Alarmed by what they saw, one of the witnesses recorded the incident on his cellphone, capturing several videos, and promptly informed his companion of the situation, as reported by Local10.

The two passengers allegedly spotted the French national touching the woman as she slept, with one alarmed man whipping out his cellphone to take several videos and alerting his friend, according to the document first reported by Local10.

After the passenger became “very concerned,” he alerted a flight attendant, the complaint alleged.

“Witness 2 observed Mattler moving his hand in a ‘submarine’ motion, as if trying to get his hand under the Victim’s clothing and/or between her legs,“ an FBI Special Agent wrote in the complaint.

As the flight attendant rushed to assess the situation, they allegedly witnessed Mattler with his hand on the stranger’s “crotch, over her jeans, making a scooping or rubbing motion on her vagina.”

After the abuse occurred, Mattler was unable to tell the flight attendant whether he knew the woman and was moved to coach, federal officials alleged.

When the flight attendant woke the woman to tell her what had happened, she was “shocked” and “began shaking and crying,” court documents stated.

After Mattler was returned to his seat to fetch his belongings, the creep allegedly tried to hand the victim a note that said “you look beautiful when you are sleeping,” the complaint added.

He then allegedly claimed to investigators that “nothing happened on the flight.” But, when confronted with video evidence, the creep admitted that he “touched the woman sitting next to him and that he did not think it was such a big deal,” court documents said.

After claiming to have touched only her lower back and upper buttocks, the frisky Frenchman disturbingly said, “he touched whatever he could reach from across the armrest,” investigators claimed.

“Mattler advised his initial intention was to get the woman’s phone number and give her his,” an FBI agent wrote. “He then provided the note from his pocket that was written on his business card that read ‘you look cute when you sleep,’ along with the flight information and his seat number.”

He also allegedly informed agents that he had taken photographs with his phone but deleted them before officers could find them.

Mattler appeared in Miami federal court on Wednesday and will return to court on Monday, Local10 reported.

Prosecutors wish to keep him behind bars for being a flight risk and a danger to the community, the outlet reported.

Court documents stated he also initially declined assistance from the French consulate.

Ja Rule’s Daughter Brittney Aitken Celebrates Arrival of First Baby with Husband Tevin Aitken

Brittney Aitken has officially stepped into motherhood!

The daughter of rapper Ja Rule, Brittney, has welcomed her first child, a baby girl, alongside her husband Tevin Aitken. Tevin shared this heartwarming news on Instagram, posting a touching photo from the hospital where Brittney is seen cradling their newborn daughter.

“She is here. Truly an amazing moment to experience with my wife. A pain I would never want to endure. Thank you for giving me my baby girl. Thank you to all friends and family for all the love and support you guys continue to give us. Now it’s time for the sleepless nights lol #TeamDad,” expressed the proud new father in his post.

In the weeks leading up to their daughter’s birth, the couple eagerly anticipated her arrival. Earlier this month, they celebrated the upcoming addition to their family with a charming strawberry-themed baby shower at The Grand Lux Venue in New Jersey.

The world first learned of Brittney and Tevin’s pregnancy last year when Ja Rule shared the joyous news during an appearance on the talk show “Sherri,” expressing his excitement about becoming a grandfather for the first time.

“I’m about to be a grandfather,” he said. “That don’t even sound right.”

He also explained how Brittney revealed the news to him and his wife.

“It was very cute the way she did it. She put the sonogram in a box and it was a card that said, ‘You’re now grandma and grandfather,’ and the sonogram was in the thing,” he said.

“And she said, ‘I got a gift for you guys.’ And we thought it was a real gift,” he continued. “So, we go into the room … and we open it up and she got the camera on.”

“You can see my expression, see me and wifey’s expression,” he added. “And it was an amazing moment.”

Ja Rule also shared that he already has a nickname in mind for his new role.

“I think I’m going to steal my name from the Notorious B.I.G. Yeah. I love it when they call me Big Poppa,” he said.

Bridging the Mental Health ‘Safety Gap’: Addressing Decade-Long Delays for Vulnerable Australians

0

in brief

  • Australians born overseas are delaying mental health support and receiving less consultations than their Australian-born peers.
  • Younger people and women are more at risk, new research shows, prompting calls for reforms to the mental health support system.

According to recent findings by Australia’s leading mental health organization, individuals born outside the country are more inclined to postpone seeking mental health assistance for at least ten years compared to native Australians.

The research, unveiled by the Embrace Multicultural Mental Health Project under Mental Health Australia, highlights that those who have recently immigrated to Australia, alongside the youth and women, are at a heightened risk of experiencing subpar mental health compared to their Australian-born counterparts.

The findings further indicate that Australians from diverse backgrounds encounter social challenges and stigma when attempting to access mental health services, as well as obstacles in obtaining necessary care.

Adriel Appathurai, a representative from the youth-focused mental health group Orygen, shared with SBS News that while distinct cultural communities face unique mental health challenges, there are also shared experiences among them.

Appathurai, who hails from Sri Lanka, reflected on how being raised in Australia as a refugee’s child fostered an attitude that made reaching out for help more difficult.

“I think for anyone who’s come from overseas, especially those from refugee asylum seeker backgrounds, there is that pressure to succeed, that pressure to do well,” he said.

“It can be more direct from your parents, but it can also be just that internalising again of, ‘my parents have worked so hard to bring me here, they’ve sacrificed so much, and it’s my responsibility to now provide for them, care for them, do well and be successful’.”

‘Considerable stigma’

Mental Health Australia CEO Carolyn Nikoloski said the group’s research identified several pressures experienced by Australians with multicultural backgrounds and those born overseas.

“We know that the process of moving overseas is in and of itself a really stressful experience, so that can be a risk factor for poor mental health,” she told SBS News.

“We also know that when people are separated from their family and friendship and other support networks, that can be a contributor to poor mental health.”

Australians with multicultural backgrounds were more likely to experience racism and discrimination, causing further harm to their mental health, the organisation found.

Racism and discrimination could create stigma, she said, which can be compounded by feelings of judgement from within a family or cultural group.

“Particularly for people from multicultural communities, we know that there’s still considerable stigma associated with mental health. And that stigma can be tied to feelings of shame and a concern about not wanting to worry family members,” Nikoloski said.

Systemic issues

There are also practical barriers to getting support for mental health, like the service system itself being confusing and hard to navigate.

Co-author of the new research, Dr Andre Renzaho, said the delay in multicultural Australians seeking mental health support showed systemic and structural barriers prevented meaningful engagement with the healthcare system.

“Australian-born individuals were more likely to receive 20 or more consultations than migrants, which is really a problem, showing systemic issues,” said Renzaho, who is a professor at Western Sydney University with a background in health and development.

Renzaho said challenges for migrants can begin when they first arrive in Australia and try to navigate the nation’s “complex” health system.

“Being able to communicate within that system, being able to understand the referral pathways within that system, being able even to understand the difference in services provided by professionals, or a GP, for example, as opposed to a mental health professional, are all hard things to navigate,” he said.

Even after finding an appropriate appointment, some may face other challenges, such as language barriers, transport, and finances, he said, adding that this could lead to a “safety gap” that can fuel mistrust and misunderstanding.

“Migrants may have a different understanding that incorporates also a traditional construction, a cultural belief and the cultural construction of mental health, which may dictate how they seek help,” he said.

“And those cultural beliefs and the cultural norms may not be understood by mental health service providers.”

The report makes several recommendations to address these concerns, including culturally aware mental health education and training a bicultural mental health workforce.

Trump Announces U.S. Initiative to Assist Stranded Ships in Navigating the Strait of Hormuz

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday the initiation of “Project Freedom,” a U.S.-led mission set to commence on Monday. This operation aims to assist foreign ships currently stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, and Trump warned that any disruption to this humanitarian effort would be “dealt with forcefully.” These vessels, which he described as “neutral and innocent bystanders,” remain trapped amid regional tensions.

Through a post on Truth Social, President Trump shared that nations globally, not involved in the ongoing regional conflict, have sought U.S. assistance to free ships “locked up in the Strait of Hormuz.” He characterized these vessels as “neutral and innocent bystanders.”

“For the benefit of Iran, the Middle East, and the United States, we have informed these countries that we will ensure the safe passage of their ships out of these constrained waterways, enabling them to resume their business,” Trump stated. He added that U.S. representatives have been instructed to “use best efforts” to guarantee the secure departure of the ships and their crews.

Trump positioned the mission as a humanitarian effort, highlighting that many of the stranded vessels are “running low on food, and everything else necessary” to support large crews, describing them as “victims of circumstance.”

He reinforced this message with a stern warning: “If, in any way, this humanitarian process is interfered with, that interference will, unfortunately, have to be dealt with forcefully.”

He coupled that message with a clear warning: “If, in any way, this Humanitarian process is interfered with, that interference will, unfortunately, have to be dealt with forcefully.”

President Trump added that U.S. representatives are engaged in “very positive discussions” with Iran that “could lead to something very positive for all,” while making clear the humanitarian extraction operation is proceeding independently of those talks.

Details of how the operation will be carried out remain limited. Axios reported, citing two American officials, that the effort may not rely on traditional naval escorts, but that U.S. warships will remain in the vicinity to deter Iranian interference if necessary, while providing commercial vessels with guidance on the safest maritime lanes — including routes not mined by Iranian forces.

Later Sunday night, U.S. Central Command confirmed it will begin supporting Project Freedom on Monday, outlining a significant military posture behind the effort. In a statement, CENTCOM said the mission — directed by President Trump — is aimed at restoring freedom of navigation for commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a corridor through which roughly a quarter of the world’s seaborne oil trade passes.

“Our support for this defensive mission is essential to regional security and the global economy as we also maintain the naval blockade,” CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper said.

The command said U.S. support will include guided-missile destroyers, more than 100 land- and sea-based aircraft, multi-domain unmanned platforms, and approximately 15,000 service members — underscoring the scale of the operation as Washington moves to secure commercial transit through the strategic chokepoint.

Earlier Sunday, President Trump said the latest Iranian proposal failed to meet U.S. requirements, telling Israel’s Kan News he had reviewed the offer and rejected it.

“I studied the new Iranian proposal, and it is not acceptable to me,” he said, adding that “the campaign is progressing very well.”

The proposal — a 14-point framework conveyed via Pakistani intermediaries — has been widely reported to demand sweeping concessions from Washington, including sanctions relief, the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the region, an end to the naval blockade, and a halt to hostilities across multiple fronts, while deferring meaningful negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program.

Iranian officials moved Sunday to dispute key elements of those reports. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran’s proposal is focused solely on ending the conflict and insisted that “at this stage” there are no nuclear negotiations underway, while rejecting claims that the plan includes provisions related to clearing mines in the Strait.

State-linked outlets, including Fars News Agency, similarly pushed back on reports that Iran had agreed to a long-term halt to uranium enrichment or to reopening the Strait prior to a final agreement — underscoring the gap between public reporting and Tehran’s official position.

Against that backdrop, President Trump’s launch of Project Freedom introduces a new operational step — moving to extract neutral vessels and crews from the strategic chokepoint while maintaining pressure on Tehran and warning against any attempt to disrupt the effort.

The move effectively places the onus on Iran to allow the safe departure of non-involved shipping — or risk escalation if it chooses to interfere.

Iran Cautions Against U.S. Involvement in Strait, Citing Ceasefire Breach

0

An influential Iranian legislator has issued a warning, stating that any involvement by the United States in the Strait of Hormuz would breach the ceasefire agreement between the two nations. This statement came following President Trump’s proposal of a “humanitarian gesture” to escort international vessels through the strait.

Ebrahim Azizi took to social media platform X to express that the region would not be influenced by “Trump’s delusional posts.” His comments followed the President’s announcement of plans to assist those inadvertently caught in the blockage of the Iranian-controlled waterway.

The chairman of the Iranian parliament’s national security commission declared, “Any American interference in the new maritime regime of the Strait of Hormuz will be regarded as a breach of the ceasefire.”

He further emphasized, “The Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf cannot be governed by Trump’s delusional posts. No one will fall for these blame game scenarios!”

President Trump has announced that the initiative, named ‘Project Freedom,’ is set to commence on Monday morning. It is designed to aid “neutral and innocent bystanders.”

Trump added: ‘For the good of Iran, the Middle East, and the United States, we have told these Countries that we will guide their Ships safely out of these restricted Waterways, so that they can freely and ably get on with their business.

‘Again, these are Ships from areas of the World that are not in any way involved with that which is currently taking place in the Middle East.

‘I have told my Representatives to inform them that we will use best efforts to get their Ships and Crews safely out of the Strait. In all cases, they said they will not be returning until the area becomes safe for navigation, and everything else.’

He continued: ‘This process, Project Freedom, will begin Monday morning, Middle East time.

‘I am fully aware that my Representatives are having very positive discussions with the Country of Iran, and that these discussions could lead to something very positive for all.

‘The Ship movement is merely meant to free up people, companies, and Countries that have done absolutely nothing wrong — They are victims of circumstance.’

The announcement came after Iran sent a 14-point plan which called on the US to end the war within 30 days.

The Middle Eastern nation’s latest request aims for the conflict to be resolved, instead of extending the ceasefire, according to Iran’s state-linked media.

Trump added on Saturday that he was reviewing a new Iranian proposal to end the war, but also expressed doubt that it would lead to a deal.

The proposal, a rebuttal to the US nine-point plan, also calls for the US to lift sanctions on Iran, ending the naval blockade, withdrawing forces from the region, and ceasing all hostilities, including Israel’s operations in Lebanon, according to the semi-official Nour News agency, which has close ties to the country’s security organizations.

Pakistan has hosted negotiations between Iran and the US in the past, and Trump rejected a previous Iranian proposal this week.

However, conversations have continued, and the fragile three-week ceasefire appears to be holding.

On Sunday, Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi spoke with Oman’s foreign minister Badr al Busaidi, who oversaw previous rounds of talks between the US and Iran before the latest round of fighting.

Iran effectively closed the Strait by attacking and threatening ships after the US and Israel launched a war on February 28.

Tehran later offered some ships safe passage via routes closer to its shore, charging fees at times.

The US has responded with a naval blockade of Iranian ports since April 13, depriving Tehran of the oil revenue it needs to shore up its ailing economy.

The Story Behind the Meeting of D4vd and Celeste Rivas Hernandez Unveiled

A portrait of the late Celeste Rivas Hernandez is shown during a press briefing by Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman

Notable Individuals

D4vd and Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s initial encounter reportedly occurred in 2022, according to prosecutors. Evidence from text messages suggests their relationship became intimate in 2023, marking a significant concern as D4vd was 18, while Celeste had just turned 13.

The ongoing legal proceedings involving D4vd have finally begun to shed light on the circumstances surrounding his involvement with Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose tragic death has captured the public’s attention. Last week’s court appearance revealed crucial details about their unsettling relationship, particularly after Celeste was discovered deceased in the trunk of D4vd’s Tesla, a day after her 15th birthday. The revelation of how D4vd and Celeste met and when their relationship intensified has provided some clarity to lingering questions.

How Did D4vd Meet Celeste Rivas Hernandez?

Although the specifics of their initial meeting remain somewhat hazy, it is generally believed that D4vd and Celeste Rivas Hernandez first connected through online platforms. A former teacher from Lakeland Village School in Lake Elsinore mentioned in a TMZ interview that Celeste had a boyfriend during his time teaching her. Speculations by online investigators suggest that their interaction might have started from a Fortnite game encounter. Records show Celeste was active in D4vd’s official Discord server as early as 2022, where other users referred to her as his girlfriend.

While their acquaintance likely began in 2022, court records confirm that their relationship did not become sexual until 2023, around two months following Celeste’s 13th birthday. By then, D4vd had already reached the age of 18. A TikTok post from February 2024 captured D4vd’s excitement about having a Valentine, identified as Celeste. She appeared on multiple livestreams with him, although they reportedly misrepresented her age to others. Court documents indicate Celeste possessed several fake IDs during her association with D4vd. Communication records between them reveal that their intimate relationship persisted even after their breakup in November 2024.

D4vd and Celeste may have met in 2022, but court documents make it clear that the relationship did not turn sexual until 2023, about two months after Celeste turned 13. D4vd was already 18 at the time. A TikTok from February 2024 shows D4vd jumping up and down about having a Valentine. Celeste later appeared on several livestreams with D4vd, though it appears the two misrepresented her age to several people. According to court documents, the teen was in possession of multiple fake IDs during her time with D4vd. Text messages and other communications between the pair make it clear that they were having regular sexual contact, even after their reported breakup in November 2024.

The Sexual Nature of the Relationship Is Also Part of the Alleged Motive for Celeste’s Slaying

Prosecutors are arguing that the illegal, sexual nature of the relationship was central to the motive behind Celeste’s death. According to court documents, Celeste had threatened to reveal the nature of their relationship to police, which would have derailed D4vd’s budding music career.

Prosecutors allege that the 21-year-old singer lured the teen to his Los Angeles home with the express intent to kill her and prevent her from exposing their relationship. He then allegedly dismembered her in his garage after ordering chainsaws online. From there, prosecutors allege, he placed her remains in the trunk of his Tesla and left them there for months.

Celeste’s remains were discovered in September 2025, but prosecutors believe she was murdered in late April 2025. April 23 was the last day anyone heard from her.

This is a developing story…

Canada Sees Unprecedented Rise in Antisemitic Incidents, Prompting Scrutiny of Carney Government’s Response

0

The Canadian government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Mark Carney, is once again under scrutiny for its efforts to combat antisemitism. This comes as a new report reveals an unprecedented surge in hate crimes targeting the Jewish community across the nation.

On Monday, B’nai Brith Canada’s League for Human Rights published findings indicating that in 2025, there were 6,800 reported antisemitic incidents in Canada. This figure marks a significant 9.4% rise compared to 2024, averaging 18.6 incidents daily. According to the organization, this is the highest number of such incidents recorded since they began monitoring these occurrences.

Adding to the urgency, Canada’s Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights recently released a report highlighting the escalating antisemitism following the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023. The committee has proposed 22 actionable steps for the government to mitigate the growing wave of anti-Jewish sentiment.

The report outlines a variety of recommendations, including enhancing research on hate crime statistics, boosting security funding, regulating the use of hate symbols, improving digital and social media literacy, and expanding educational resources for educators and students alike.

The recommendations span the gamut of expanding research into hate crime data, improving security funding, addressing the display of hate symbols, expanding social media and digital literacy, and increasing educational resources for professionals teachers and students.

In one recommendation, the report addressed the prime minister directly, asking that he reinstate the position of a Special Envoy on Preserving Holocaust Remembrance and Combating Antisemitism. Carney eliminated this position in February along with the combating Islamophobia position, integrating them into a different office. His office did not respond to Fox News Digital’s inquiry about whether he intends to follow the recommendation.

While some welcomed the report, several Jewish Canadians expressed concern whether it accurately identified drivers of antisemitism.

The report does not mention Islamic extremism, and only occasionally mentions anti-Zionist fervor, often describing it using the words of other institutions and respondents.

“It is deeply troubling and bewildering that the Senate report doesn’t even reference religious radicalism as a problem,” Canadian orthodox Rabbi Reuben Poupko, host of The Jewish World podcast, told Fox News Digital.

“The reluctance to identify the radicals is itself evidence of ignorance and bias,” he said. “By their silence, politicians are implying that they think the broad Muslim community is supportive of the radicals and therefore fear alienating that community by denouncing the radicals. Truth be told, it is often that moderate Muslims are the first who suffer at the hands of radical elements.”

Poupko added that it “is notoriously difficult to quantify with any degree of certainty what percentage of Canadian Muslims support the radicals,” but said “it is certainly far from a majority.”

The Canadian Muslim Public Affairs Council raised concerns of its own about the Senate’s recommendations. Though it “reaffirm[ed] that combating antisemitism is essential to protecting all communities in Canada,” the group stated on X that “certain recommendations… raise serious concerns about potential impacts on Charter-protected freedoms, including protest and expression” and suggested “efforts to address hate” should “not inadvertently limit civil rights, restrict lawful advocacy or disproportionately marginalize communities.”

Aviva Klompas, CEO and co-founder of Boundless Israel, told Fox News Digital that she applauds the report’s recommendations of “creating safety zones around religious institutions and community spaces, strengthening hate crime enforcement and education,” but does not “think it fully accounts for the multiple dimensions driving this immediate surge, including Islamic extremism and the ways anti-Zionism is used as a cover to target Jews.”

There are concerns about whether the Senate’s recommendations are sufficient to address the current climate of anti-Jewish hate. Poupko said, “Antisemitism is too generic a term to describe what is now the problem,” adding that the “‘old’ solutions, like education, police training and Holocaust awareness are clearly insufficient to meet the challenge.”

Klompas says she “appreciate[s] that a plan is being put into place” but is concerned “that it doesn’t meet the urgency of the moment. Jewish schools have been shot at, synagogues repeatedly targeted and Jewish-owned businesses vandalized.”

She questioned whether anyone would “gamble on a new task force or education training programs to keep your family and friends safe at a moment when they are actively under attack?”

Ian McLeod, senior media relations advisor at the Canadian Department of Justice, told Fox News Digital, “The Government of Canada is taking concrete action to counter hate in all its forms, including antisemitism, and reinforce that our society will not tolerate anyone being made to feel afraid because of who they are, how they worship or where they gather.” The spokesperson noted that many of the Senate’s recommendations “reflect these actions.”

Among the initiatives McLeod said were already underway is Canada’s Action Plan on Combating Hate (CAPCH), launched in September 2024, “which brings new and existing initiatives together to foster greater coordination and collaboration among federal organizations to prevent and address hate.”

During the same year, McLeod said the Canadian government “announced over $273 million to support community safety, improve responses to hate crimes, help victims, and counter radicalization.”

Suspected Hantavirus Outbreak on Atlantic Cruise Ship Claims Three Lives

0

A suspected hantavirus outbreak aboard a cruise ship in the Atlantic has resulted in the deaths of three people, including an elderly couple, and has caused illness in at least three others, as reported by the World Health Organization (WHO) and South Africa’s Department of Health on Sunday.

The WHO announced that an investigation is ongoing, with one hantavirus case already confirmed. One patient is receiving intensive care at a hospital in South Africa, and the organization is collaborating with authorities to evacuate two more individuals displaying symptoms from the vessel.

The Dutch cruise operator stated that the ship is currently stationed off the coast of Cape Verde, a nation of islands off Africa’s western shoreline. Local authorities are providing assistance but have not yet permitted anyone to leave the ship. The two individuals in need of urgent medical attention are reportedly crew members.

Hantavirus infections are spread mainly by rodents

Hantaviruses are a group of viruses present worldwide, primarily transmitted through contact with the urine or feces of infected rodents such as rats and mice. The virus drew attention following the death of Betsy Arakawa, the wife of the late actor Gene Hackman, from a hantavirus infection in New Mexico last year.

Gene Hackman passed away approximately a week later at their residence due to heart disease.

Hantaviruses cause two serious syndromes, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a severe disease that effects the lungs, and hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome, a severe disease that affects the kidneys.

While rare, WHO said hantavirus infections can be spread between people. There is no specific treatment or cure, but early medical attention can increase the chance of survival.

“WHO is aware of and supporting a public health event involving a cruise vessel sailing in the Atlantic Ocean,” the organization said. “Detailed investigations are ongoing, including further laboratory testing, and epidemiological investigations. Medical care and support are being provided to passengers and crew. Sequencing of the virus is also ongoing.”

The weekslong cruise started in Argentina

South Africa’s Department of Health said the ship, the Dutch-flagged MV Hondius, had left Argentina around three weeks ago for a cruise that included visits to Antarctica, the Falkland Islands and other stops. It was due to ultimately head to Spain’s Canary Islands on the other side of the Atlantic.

The first victim was a 70-year-old man who died on the ship and whose body was removed in the British territory of Saint Helena in the South Atlantic, the South African health department said in a statement. The man’s wife collapsed at an airport in South Africa trying to take a flight to her home country of the Netherlands, the department said. She died at a nearby hospital.

The department identified the patient in intensive care in a hospital in Johannesburg as a British national. It said that person fell ill near Ascension Island, another remote island in the Atlantic, after the ship left Saint Helena and was transferred from there to South Africa.

Around 150 passengers were onboard

Around 150 tourists were onboard at the time of the outbreak, South Africa’s health department said. Several online tour operators said the Hondius, which is described as a specialist polar cruise ship, usually travels with around 70 crew members.

Oceanwide Expeditions, the company that runs the cruise, said the third victim’s body was still onboard the ship in Cape Verde and its priority was to ensure the two crew members who were ill received medical care.

“Local health authorities have visited the vessel to assess the condition of the two symptomatic individuals,” the company said. “They are yet to make a decision regarding the transfer of these individuals into medical care in Cape Verde.”

WHO said it was working with national authorities and the ship’s operators to conduct a “full public health risk assessment” and provide support for those still onboard.

South Africa’s National Institute for Communicable Diseases, meanwhile, was conducting contact tracing in the Johannesburg region to identify if other people were exposed to the infected passengers in South Africa.

Jasson Dominguez Shines with Dual-Sided Power, Offering Yankees a Rare Boost

0

Jasson Domínguez once again showcased the potential that has intrigued the Yankees since they signed him as an international free agent nearly seven years ago. The 23-year-old switch-hitter, who has yet to establish himself as a full-time major leaguer, delivered an impressive performance on Sunday, contributing two doubles and hitting his first home run of the season in the Yankees’ commanding 11-3 victory over the Orioles.

With Giancarlo Stanton sidelined due to a calf injury, Domínguez seized the opportunity to start as the designated hitter. This occasion presented him with another chance to make his mark—a chance he hasn’t consistently capitalized on in the past.

Although Domínguez started the game 0-for-2, he soon found his rhythm. In the sixth inning, he doubled down the left field line and crossed the plate to give the Yankees the lead in what had been a tightly contested matchup.

His standout moment came in the eighth inning, when he launched a two-run homer from the left side of the plate, igniting a seven-run rally. Domínguez rounded off the explosive inning with another double, this time batting from the right side.

Then came a two-run homer, from the left side, to spark a seven-run inning in the eighth, which Domínguez capped by doubling again from the right side.

The Yankees have been waiting for years for Domínguez to hit consistently from that side of the plate, despite having grown up a right-handed hitter.

“That’s his natural side,” Aaron Boone said. “When you see him hit or take BP, you see it’s not an unnatural move.”

Jasson Domínguez of the New York Yankees looks on after hitting a two-run home run.

Domínguez has pummeled the ball right-handed in his month at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, but has never produced enough from that side to warrant being an everyday player at the major league level.

With Cody Bellinger in left field and Trent Grisham in center, Domínguez found himself at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre again this season.

There remain not only doubts about hitting righty, but also on defense.

Before the game, Boone said he would look to get Aaron Judge a DH day at some point this week, with Domínguez now serving as the fourth outfielder after losing Randal Grichuk.

Domínguez said his three-hit game Sunday was “awesome” and that he’s been working to get more comfortable hitting right-handed.

He’s been down this road before, having first come up to the Yankees late in 2023.

“Adversity is always tough, but that’s what I’ve got to do,” Domínguez said. “I’ve got to do my job.”

A performance like the one Sunday, he said, “definitely helps.” It was the second time in his career he’s had a hit from both sides of the plate in the same inning.

Jimmy Kimmel Stirs Controversy with Bold Joke About Rudy Giuliani’s Health

Just days before Rudy Giuliani was hurried to the hospital in critical condition, comedian Jimmy Kimmel made a jest about the former New York City Mayor being ‘in the grave.’ This remark came during Kimmel’s commentary on his late-night show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where he often blends humor with current events.

Kimmel, at 58 years old, was addressing the backlash he faced after a previous joke related to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. He seized the moment to take a jab at 81-year-old Giuliani, a figure who has frequently been in the public eye for his political endeavors and controversies.

“Last night, America’s mayor, Rudy Giuliani, rose from the grave to weigh in on the ongoing drama involving me,” Kimmel quipped, underscoring his signature style of weaving biting humor into his commentary.

In a more pointed remark, Kimmel questioned Giuliani’s support system, wondering aloud if there were any family members who could intervene in what he implied was a time of need for the former GOP presidential candidate. “Does this man have any family members who can come get him already?” he asked, with a tone that mixed concern with sarcasm.

‘Does this man have any family members who can come get him already?’ he said.

He then played a clip of Giuliani saying on his podcast that Kimmel is ‘one of the most distasteful human beings in this country.’

When the audience then started booing Giuliani’s remarks, Kimmel responded: ‘I have to say, it hurts to be called distasteful by a man who farted his own pants off in front of Borat’s daughter.’

Still, Kimmel continued to play the clip from Giuliani’s livestreamed podcast.

‘Kimmel was making believe that he was hosting the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, which I think he did once, I don’t know. Probably once… and about four people probably watched it and he bombed like usual,’ said Giuliani.

‘This is supposed to be a comedian,’ he continued. ‘He’s also like an incompetent jacka**.’

But Kimmel laughed off Giuliani’s comments.

‘I have to say, it’s confusing to be called an incompetent jacka** by a man who accidentally held a press conference outside a dildo store, who doesn’t seem to have any understanding of when videos are running and when they aren’t and has a gallon of squid ink dribbling off the top of his head,’ the comedian shot back.

Just four days later, a spokesperson for Giuliani announced that he had been rushed to the hospital.

‘Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak,’ spokesman Ted Goodman said.

‘We do ask that you join us in prayer for America’s Mayor – Rudy Giuliani.’

It remains unclear why the 81-year-old was hospitalized in Florida.

But he was previously heard coughing and sputtering on a livestream posted to his Facebook page Friday night.

As it started he said: ‘My voice is a little under the weather so I won’t be able to speak as loudly as I usually do.’

Kimmel has been facing backlash for a joke he made ahead of the White House Correspondents' Dinner in which he called First Lady Melania Trump an 'expectant widow'

Kimmel has been facing backlash for a joke he made ahead of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in which he called First Lady Melania Trump an ‘expectant widow’

Meanwhile, Kimmel continues to face criticism for his joke about the First Lady, which came just days before suspected gunman Cole Tomas Allen, 31, opened fire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in an apparent assassination attempt.

Melania responded by slamming ‘Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric’ which she claimed was ‘intended to divide our country’.

‘His monologue about my family isn’t comedy – his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America,’ the First Lady wrote on X Monday morning.

She called on ABC to ‘take a stand’ against Kimmel, while the president went further by saying he should be ‘immediately fired’.

‘I appreciate that so many people are incensed by Kimmel’s despicable call to violence, and normally would not be responsive to anything that he said but, this is something far beyond the pale,’ he wrote on Truth Social.

‘Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC.’

But Kimmel claimed his joke was just pertaining to the ‘age difference’ between Trump and his wife, not an assassination.

He also condemned the shooting attempt at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner while offering condolences to everyone impacted.

‘It was a very light roast joke about the fact that he’s almost 80 and she’s younger than I am,’ the comedian said.

‘It was not by any stretch of the definition a call to assassination. And they know that.’

‘I’ve been very vocal for many years speaking out against gun violence, in particular,’ he added.

‘But I understand that the First Lady had a stressful experience over the weekend and probably every weekend is pretty stressful in that house.’

Kimmel then twisted Melania’s words to criticize her husband again.

‘I agree that hateful and violent rhetoric is something we should reject. I do and I think a great place to start to dial that back would be to have a conversation with your husband about it,’ he quipped.

Kimmel then pointed out that both he and Donald Trump were legally protected by the First Amendment.

‘By the way, I should point out Donald Trump is allowed to say what he wants to say, as you are you, as am I, as are all of us, because under the First Amendment we have a right as Americans to free speech,’ he said to applause from his audience.

Still, the Federal Communications Commission has ordered early reviews of eight Disney-owned ABC stations – which could lead the federal agency to revoke the stations’ licenses and ultimately take them off the airwaves.

It is the first crisis Disney’s new CEO Josh D’Amaro must face as he now has to decide how to respond to mounting pressure to fire Kimmel.

The Daily Mail has reached out to ABC and representatives for Kimmel for comment.
